Pakleni Islands – Your guide for the perfect day trip from Hvar

Zi @Craving Adventure

  • Europe , Croatia

The Pakleni Islands are only a short boat ride from Hvar town and while the name, Pakleni Otoci, literally translates to Hell Islands, in our experience, they’re more like Paradise Islands and a must do on Hvar!

We spent the most amazing day exploring the Paklinski otoci by boat, dropping our anchor in the most beautiful bays, swimming, sunbathing and literally living our best life. It was a day to remember and something we wish everyone would have the chance to experience!

What are the Pakleni Islands and why should you visit?

Getting to paklinski islands, which pakleni island to visit, things to do on pakleni islands, hvar, 1. snorkel at tarsce beach, 2. swim at stari stani, 3. chill at laganini, 4. have a mud bath at soline beach, 5. find the sandy beach at perna bay, 6. grab drinks at carpe diem, 7. drop the anchor in a secluded bay, where to stay in hvar, best time to visit pakleni islands, planning a trip to hvar.

In a hurry? Book your Pakleni Islands essentials here.

The best way to explore this archipelago is by boat. You can either rent one or join one of the many tours. These are the best ones:

Rent a boat Red Rocks and Pakleni Island tour Blue Cave, Vis and Pakleni Island tour Morning kayaking tour Sunset kayaking tour

The Pakleni Islands are a chain of rocky islets just off the coast of Hvar. This beautiful archipelago is only a short boat ride and a popular day trip from Hvar town as it offers some of the most breathtaking beaches, the best snorkelling in Croatia, and some of the most amazing beach clubs in Hvar.

Across the Hvar Strait, on the Pakleni Islands archipelago, you’ll find picturesque coves, stunning beaches, hip bars, and beautiful nature. The Pakleni Islands, also referred to as Paklinski Islands, are the perfect place to bask in the Mediterranean sun, swim in the clear Adriatic waters and discover new bays, and just have a bloody good time. No wonder they’re one of the most popular day trips form Hvar!

The Pakleni Islands are just a stone-throw away from Hvar and the boat ride over only takes 10-20 minutes! You can do a guided tour or catch a water taxi to the islands but, if you have a licence, we wholeheartedly recommend that you rent a boat and explore at your own pace.

Rent a boat

We honestly believe that doing a Pakleni Islands tour at your own accord is the best way to explore the archipelago. You’ll be free to drop the anchor wherever you like, leave whenever you like and have all the freedom and all the fun.

Renting a boat in Hvar is easy. We rented this 20HP Bettina with a shade roof from Antonio Rent who we highly recommend. Jure gave us a crash course on how to operate the vessel and gave us some awesome recommendations on where to go as well.

Also the Betina boat is a tad stronger than the average Pasara which made the trip over a lot more fun and a lot faster!

Book: We highly recommend this 20HP Bettina Price: 180 Eur (for 4 times the horse power of the average Passara you’ll get elsewhere this is a fab price!) Insiders Tip: Ask for a cooler box and pack some lunch. Also put a bottle of water into the freezer over night – it will keep the food cold and you’ll have a cold drink handy even in the late afternoon! Read next: Renting a boat on Hvar – tips, rules, suggestions

Private boat tour

If you don’t feel comfortable driving a boat or would prefer to have a few drinks, then a private tour is a fabulous choice.

The beauty of private boat tours is that they’re customizable and the skipper will listen to your wants and needs. They’ll recommend the best stops, shower you in local knowledge and make sure you have a fabulous and carefree day out on the water.

This Red Rocks and Pakleni Island speedboat tour is fantastic! You’ll get to explore some of the best beaches of Southern Hvar, marvel at the astonishing Red Rock cliff, and enjoy the gorgeous bays of Pakleni Islands.

While these tours usually have a tentative itinerary, you can always choose to pack up and move on or stay a little longer if a bay steals your heart.

Book: Red Rocks and Pakleni Island tour Price: €520 per group (up to 8) Insiders Tip: Ask to stop at Luscica Beach near Sv. Nedelja

Island hopping group tour

Group tours are a great option if you want a time and cost-effective way to explore all the highlights. A typical day speedboat tour like this will include a trip to Stniva on Vis, the Blue Cave on Bisovo, Green Cave on Ravnik, and end by exploring the main bays of the Pakleni Islands.

While group tours aren’t flexible and you’ll be surrounded by other groups most of the day, these island hopping tours do pack in a lot at a very good price and are great if you’re on a budget.

Book: Blue Cave, Vis and Pakleni Island tour Price: €80 per person

Kayak to Pakleni Islands

Quite a few of the Pakleni Islands are close enough to Hvar that you can easily reach them by kayak. We haven’t found an option to rent kayaks or paddleboards but there are several options to join a kayaking tour to the archipelago.

This morning kayaking tour is best if you’d like to take some time to sunbathe and snorkel. If you prefer to explore in the evening you can join this sunset kayaking tour. You won’t be venturing as far into the Pakleni islands but the sunset views are absolutely amazing.

Book: Morning kayaking tour Sunset kayaking tour

Taking the water taxi from Hvar to Pakleni Islands is the cheapest and most common way of getting over to the archipelago and will drop you off at the Palmizana marina, Mlini beach, Jerolim or in front of Carpe Diem.

To be perfectly honest this would have to be our least favourite way to explore The Paklinski Islands as it is the most limiting and least flexible. And, at least for us, the real appeal of the Pakleni Islands was spending some time out on the boat.

If you do decide to take the water taxi then it’s best to take the one to Palmizana (Sveti Klement island) as you’ll have the most options on this island.

Book: just rock up at Hvar’s riva Price: 60 kuna return Insiders Tip: Bring good shoes as you’ll have to explore the islands by foot.

pelegrini tours hvar island

The Pakleni islands archipelago is about 10 km (6.2 mi) long and consists of 14 islands or islets but only 3 of them are actually interesting to visit – Sveti Klement, Marinkovac and Jerolim.

We are sure that the other islands on the Pakleni archipelago boost some beautiful bays as well, they’re just that tiny bit further and harder to reach with a slow and tiny boat, and don’t offer any facilities.

The name Paklinski Otoci is often translated as Hell or Hells’ islands but it is actually derived from paklina, an archaic name for a kind of a pine resin used to waterproof boats that was once harvested on the Pakleni archipelago.

Sveti Klement Island

The biggest and most popular of the islands is Sveti Klement which is home to some of our favourite bays, three settlements, and Palmizana beach, one of the most famous Pakleni Islands beaches (on the southern side in Vinogradisce Bay) with several bars and restaurants.

If you can only visit one island then Sveti Klement is the one you should pick as it offers the biggest variety of quiet bays, restaurants, sandy or rocky beaches and beach bars.

Marinkovac Island

Marinkovac is the second biggest island of the archipelago and an island of contrasts. This island is home to the beautiful and family friendly Mlini and Zdrilica beaches on one side, and the most famous Hvar beach club, Carpe Diem, on the other side of Stipanska Bay. After dark, Marinkovac Island is especially popular as a clubbing destination and it’s here that you’ll find the best parties Hvar has to offer.

Jerolim Island

Jerolim Island is the closest Island to Hvar and home to a popular nudist beach. Kordovon beach is one of the oldest Adriatic FKK beaches established in the 1950s and voted by CNN as the most beautiful naturist beach in Europe.

Never have we ever seen this many fish in one place! Tarsce bay can almost be compared to a tropical reef (minus the colourful reef and tropical fish). While you obviously won’t find Nemo in the Adriatic sea, Tarsce is about as good as it gets in Croatia. Here you’ll find an abundance of fish, sea urchins, crabs, shellfish and if you’re lucky, even octopus!

Location: Tarsce Bay, Sveti Klement Safety tip: When snorkelling keep close to the coast and avoid the points as well as crossing the bay due to boat traffic.

One bay over from Palmizana you’ll find a much quieter bay where you can go for a swim without the fear of a boat approaching too fast. This is also a fabulous spot to dock your boat when Vinogradisce Bay is full as you can easily walk over to Palmizana beach.

Location: Stari Stani Bay, Sveti Klement

pelegrini tours hvar island

Laganini is a cool beach club and restaurant in the most popular bay on Pakleni Islands, Palmizana. Laganini means to take it easy, to chill, and that’s exactly the vibe you get here on the big loungers and private pergolas with lounge music in the background.

Location: Laganini, Palmizana, Sveti Klement Opening times: 1PM – 10 PM

Soline Beach near Vlaka isn’t just another pretty bay. Centuries ago here stood an ancient roman spa! At Soline beach you can find roman ruins but what we really care about is the healing mud which will make your skin feel soft and smooth.

If you took the water taxi to Palmizana then you can walk to Vlaka by following a rocky trail. The walk takes 30-45 minutes and it passes along some private properties at first. Just follow the signs to Vlaka and you’ll be sweet. There’s also a restaurant in Vlaka where you can grab some drinks and food.

Location: Soline Beach, Sveti Klement Insider tip: Avoid wearing white bikinis for the mud bath.

pelegrini tours hvar island

Sandy beaches in Croatia are hard to come by but Pakleni Islands boost one of their own! It might be tiny but the sand is white and silky smooth! And to our surprise, there was hardly anyone here! This bay is perfect also if you forgot your water shoes since there’s no sea urchins on a sandy sea bed.

Location: Perna Bay, Sveti Klement

Carpe Diem is an institution you can not ignore and by far the most famous beach club on Hvar. The beach club takes up a big chunk of the Marinkovac island with sun beds, loungers, tables in the shade under trees, a massive stage and dance floor, a swimming pool, boat docks on either side, the large Carpe Diem beach … the list goes on. It turns out we could easily spend the day (and night!) here and we highly recommend you check it out too.

We only saw it in shoulder season on a fairly quiet day but we heard stories of the legendary parties held here at night in the peak of summer when they fly in some big names.

Location: Carpe Diem, Marinkovac Opening times: 10 AM – 5:15 AM

By far the best thing to do on Pakleni Islands (well technically not on the islands, just besides them) is to drop your anchor in whatever bay calls your name, let the boat gently sway with the waves while you work on your tan, jump into the crystal clear blue waters or swim with the fish. Simplicity at its finest.

Location: Wherever you desire! Insider tip: Make sure the anchor holds before leaving the vessel. A shot of reverse gear will help the anchor hook and hold the boat in place.

While there are a few accommodation options on Pakleni Islands we highly recommend staying in Hvar town.

From there it’s just a short boat ride over to Paklinski otoci. Hvar town is small and walkable, and almost every house has at least a room for rent so there is plenty of choice!

We’ve written a whole article on Hvar accommodation which will help you choose the best town (and area) to base yourself on Hvar island.

Where to stay on Hvar: Best locations and accommodation on Hvar

Best hotels on Hvar: 13 Hvar hotels you must check out

If you do choose to stay in the centre of town we recommend Hektorovic house just off the main square.

We stayed at Apartments Ivanovic and loved it, it was clean, spacious and quiet. What we didn’t necessarily love is the walk up the hill, but this was a necessary evil in order to have secure parking in front of the house.

If you prefer to stay in a hotel rather than an apartment then Adriana Hvar Spa Hotel is the perfect choice smack in the middle of town.

As for Hvar in general, the best time to visit Pakleni Islands is in the shoulder season (April till mid-June or in September and October) when the crowds are manageable, the weather is warm and pleasant, and the prices more affordable. If you visit in Autumn you’ll also have the benefit of the warmer sea.

If you’re visiting in the peak of summer make sure to start as early as possible to beat the crowds and get some quiet moments in before the taxi boats start rushing in.

As a rule of thumb we would advise you to avoid Croatia in the peak of summer. It just get too hot, too crowded and too expensive and we believe you’ll have a much better experience visiting in late spring or early Autumn.

HVAR ISLAND - GETTING AROUND

The Greeks were the ones to build the iconic gravel-and-pebble walking trails all over Hvar Island, including the roughly three-mile-by-three-mile area between Stari Grad and Vrboska called the Stari Grad Plain. There are also a number of trails connecting the Stari Grad Plain in the north to the southern part of the island, in particular St. Nicholas (2090 feet), Hvar Island`s highest point. These walkways, which lead through vineyards, olive fields and lavender fields, were the first constructed paths connecting the north and south of the island.

Taking into account the extensive stone trail system, it is no surprise that walking and hiking have been fond pastimes on Hvar Island for hundreds of years. In addition to the trails and paths described in the central part of the island, there is also a highly-recommended four-mile walking route which takes visitors from Hvar Town through the villages of Malo Grablje (at roughly the three-mile mark) and Velo Grablje (at the terminus of the route). Make sure to pack comfortable walking shoes for this trip.

There are two major taxi services on Hvar Island, and both are based in Hvar: Hvar Taxi (+385 91 602 7177) and Tihi Hvar (+385 98 338 824). Expect to pay at least 300 kuna for a ride from Hvar to Stari Grad, 500 kuna to Vrboska and Jelsa, 800 kuna to Sveta Nedilja, and 1200 kuna to Sucuraj. There are also taxi companies that will include water connections to the mainland; oft-requested destinations are Dubrovnik and Medugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina (both at least 3000 kuna). Taxis are open to haggling as you are expected to agree on your fare before departing. Since there are so few taxis, you probably won`t encounter one that is vacant for you to hail from the street, but there are no particular rules against doing so. Most locals would tell you to call ahead for a taxi and have it come to you.

Cycling is a very popular vacation activity on Hvar Island. There are a number of officially-recognized bike routes available for tourists to enjoy; you will note a bike route as they are denoted by special signs. You will find these signs on the old road to Stari Grad after exiting Hvar Town, on the way to Brusje and Milna (approximately a 12-mile route); on the road up the hill from Stari Grad to Selca and then Milna and Zarace (approximately 15 miles in total); and from Stari Grad and Selca to Dol (12 miles). There are two additional routes in Jelsa, with signs posted along the waterfront directing riders to routes which lead to the Pitve Tunnel and Vrbanj. Bicycle rentals are available in Stari Grad, Hvar and Jelsa; highly-recommended businesses include Hvar Life (Stari Grad, +385 95 556 5567); Luka Rent (Hvar, +385 21 742 946); and KGM Rent-a-Car (Jelsa, +385 91 300 4050).

TripMasters recommends that you rent a car during your vacation booking process. You will be picking up your car at Split Airport when you arrive in Croatia, and not on Hvar Island . The rental car agencies are located on the first floor of the arrivals hall at Split Airport. Ferries from Split Marina to Stari Grad accept automobiles for an added fee (between 300 and 1000 kuna depending on car size). While on Hvar Island, you will become well acquainted with the main road, which stretches approximately 40 miles between Hvar Town in the west and Sucuraj in the east. If you would like to explore the southern Dalmatian coast, you can also ferry your car along with you from Sucuraj to Drvenik on the mainland (100-400 kuna fee for automobiles).

By catamaran

Catamarans are a quick and easy way for tourists to hop between islands around Hvar and to connect back with the mainland when coming and going from either Split or Dubrovnik. Expect to pay about 80 kuna for a catamaran from Hvar Town to Milna (Brac), 100 kuna to Split, 120 kuna to Korcula, 150 kuna to Mijet and 220 kuna to Dubrovnik. Tickets can be bought at Pelegrini Tours at Hvar Pier, Kiosk Kapetan Luka at Split Port, Paiz Travel at Vis Passenger Port, and at Kiosk Mestralun at Milna (Brac) Catamaran Pier. The lengths of the trips vary, from 35 minutes between Hvar and Milna (Brac) to three hours and 20 minutes from Hvar to Dubrovnik. The catamaran takes about an hour to get from Split to Hvar.

Cazmatrans Otok Hvar is the company which operates daily bus routes on Hvar Island. Buses travel between the cities of Hvar, Jelsa, Stari Grad, Vrboska, Dol and Vrbanj; in addition, there is bus service between those cities and the Stari Grad Ferry Harbor. There is also a connection (thrice weekly) between Hvar, Jelsa and Stari Grad with Sucuraj, with an optional add-on ferry to Split. Tickets may be purchased on the bus.

Total Croatia

How and Where to Buy Ferry and Catamaran Tickets on Hvar

Total Croatia News

March 8, 2014

A guide to buying tickets for the ferries and catamarans on Hvar, from Sucuraj to Hvar Town.

Buying tickets for the catamaran and ferry should be a straightforward process. In the 21st century in a country in the European Union which is heavily dependent on tourism, it would be not unreasonable to expect to be able to buy tickets in advance and online.

But this is Croatia, where nothing that logical is currently possible. The Jadrolinija ferry company announced recently that it was introducing online ticket sales for national routes on one catamaran line in northern Croatia last month, so hopefully this situation will change. Currently the only Jadrolinija tickets which can be bought online apart from this are for the international crossings to Italy.

So how do you buy tickets on Hvar, and what about those other ferry companies – SNAV, Krilo and Blue Line, for example. Things vary according to each port. A step-by-step guide.

There are two offices which you need, both very close to each other and located on the waterfront close to where the catamaran departs.

The main Jadrolinia office sells ferry and catamaran tickets. Unlike Split, tickets for the catamaran can be bought the day before. It is located next to Carpe Diem.

Riva b.b. tel: + 385 (0)21 741 132 e-mail: [email protected] , [email protected] www.jadrolinija.hr

A little before Jadrolinija is a very useful office to know – Pelegrini Tours . Among their range of excellent services, Pelegrini are also sales agents for Krilo, SNAV and Blue Line. While SNAV and Blue Line do not sail to the island, it is a very useful service for people going from the island to Split and on to Italy. Off season Krilo sails to Split via Hvar only on Tuesdays, and this season’s schedule has not yet been released.  In Hvar people can buy tickets for Krilo one day in advance. Pelegrini will open for the season on April 1. Planned opening times from 07:30-12:00 and again from 15:00-17:00. In high season they are open  07:00-14:00 and again from 15:00-22:00.

While Pelegrini do not sell Jadrolinija tickets directly, they do offer a buying service for their clients, and the Pelegrini team does a fantastic job informing people on the status of catamaran departures in bad weather, a service we will shortly be introducing with Pelegrini to Total Hvar.

Ticket sales in Stari Gad are relatively straightforward, in the Jadrolinija office in the main ferry terminal. Tickets can be bought in advance, but it is important to note that a ticket purchase does NOT guarantee you a place on the ferry with a car – it is first come first served.

Jelsa has a daily catamaran which leaves for Bol and Split at 06:00 each day (13:00 on Sundays and public holidays in winter, usually 07:00 in summer). Tickets are sold on the morning of departure in a small sales booth in the Konzum supermarket on the waterfront just next to the main square.

Tickets are available from the small ticket office next to the ferry, and the office typically opens 30 minutes before sailing. As with Stari Grad, a ticket for a car does not guarantee a place on the ferry, and with a capacity of just 32 cars, it is important that you park in the queue on arrival before buying your ticket.

For all ferry timetable enquiries, a very useful Jadrolinija helpline in many languages can be found on +385-(0)21-338333 – it is open from 05:30 – 23:00 and its staff are multi-lingual.

For information on how to buy tickets from Split, which is a little more complicated, click here .

Thousand island blessing: the wonders of Croatia’s sun-soaked shores

With stunning sunsets, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean and must-see medieval cities, Croatia’s coast and islands are nothing short of spectacular

Once seen, never forgotten. Croatia’s fabulously beautiful coast and islands (1,246 to be precise) – with their rocky coves, iconic beaches, historic towns and gorgeous sunsets, all surrounded by some of the most breathtakingly blue waters imaginable – are places that stay in the mind, and they have a habit of luring you back.

Rovinj in Istria is one of the most instantly recognisable towns on the Croatian coast, its narrow streets and colourful facades climbing upwards to a soaring bell tower, modelled on that of St Mark’s Basilica in Venice. Travel north just a little and you’ll reach Poreč, home to Unesco-listed Byzantine mosaics to rival those in Ravenna or Istanbul – or south to Pula, with its magnificently preserved Roman amphitheatre. For a peaceful oasis set among some of the country’s finest vineyards, head just five miles inland from the sea walls of Novigrad to Brtonigla.

Eufrazijeva bazilika under the Unesco protection Poreč city

The Kvarner Gulf wraps around the islands of Krk, Cres and Lošinj, its shores home to the Habsburg grandeur of Opatija, and the bijou foodie enclave of Volosko, its restaurants clustered around a small fishing harbour. Rijeka, a former European capital of culture, is still the great underrated gem of the north, home to intriguing bars and always at the forefront of Croatia’s alternative music scene. It also has one of the best new museums in Croatia, housed in a restored sugar refinery.

For one of the best beaches in the northern Adriatic, look to Vela plaža, the great sweep of sand at Baška on the island of Krk. Lined by beach bars, it’s enclosed between the arms of low, rocky hills – etched with a spidery network of dry-stone walls, with some of the best hiking on the Croatian islands.

When it comes to Croatia’s legendary summer festivals, the two main spots are the clubbing mecca of Zrće beach on the island of Pag, and Tisno, between Zadar and Šibenik. Standouts include the massive Hideout at Zrće, and Hospitality on the Beach in Tisno.

Zadar sits on the central Dalmatian coast, its long waterfront promenade marked by the gently sighing sounds of the Sea Organ , and the flickering lights of the Greeting to the Sun installation – arguably the most outrageously beautiful sunset spot on the Adriatic, overlooking starkly silhouetted islands and water turned to liquid gold. Stroll along Kalelarga, linger over a coffee on the Roman Forum , and dive into narrow, buzzy backstreets packed full of bars. Visit nearby Nin for a further dose of history – Croatia’s medieval kings were crowned here – or if you’re hankering after the great outdoors, Zadar is within easy striking distance of Paklenica and Krka national parks.

Summer in Zadar

The ancient city of Split is both a destination in itself and the gateway to the central Dalmatian islands. At its heart lies the Unesco-listed Roman palace of Diocletian – a 2,000-year-old ruin melded into the fabric of the medieval and modern city. It’s a place like no other, its labyrinthine streets and alleys a neverending succession of twists and turns, cafes, bars and sleepy cats, punctuated by courtyards and squares, and fragments of antique sculpture.

Jump on a ferry to Brač, Hvar, Vis, Korčula or beyond. Croatia’s most iconic beach, and one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, Zlatni Rat lies on the south coast of Brač – a long spit of pale sand stretching out into the turquoise waters of the Adriatic. For a more off-the-beaten-track experience, head inland just a short way, and you’ll find the island becomes much more rural.

Hvar is the perennial island favourite, its old town square a perfect spot to sip sundowners, its scattering of offshore islands one of Croatia’s greatest partying hotspots. For a different side of Hvar, head to Stari Grad Plain – an area of olive groves and vineyards where the pattern of land use remains almost unchanged since the ancient Greeks were here nearly 2,500 years ago – or to Sv Nedilja, where the island’s best wines are produced below steep cliffs. Hike or bike to the summit of Sv Nikola for staggeringly good views which, on a clear day, stretch all the way to Italy.

Island Korčula Photo Julien Duval

Korčula is home to deliciously crisp white wines, and an extraordinary walled medieval town to rival Dubrovnik. In Ston, near the base of the Pelješac peninsula, enjoy Croatia’s best oysters, and explore some of the longest defensive walls in Europe.

And then there’s Dubrovnik, quite simply one of the most beautifully preserved medieval cities anywhere on the Mediterranean. Along with the massive walls and towers, the museums and monasteries and the incredible feeling of history, allow time to duck beneath the walls to one of the small bars on the rocks, just above the waves. Join a kayaking tour and explore the surrounding coast up close, or for Dubrovnik’s ultimate sunset views, take the cable car up to Mount Srđ.

Finally, summers are long on the Adriatic, so there’s plenty of room to go off season and still catch the sun, meaning quieter beaches and lower hotel prices – Dalmatia in October is just beautiful. So what are you waiting for? Head to Croatia for the time of your life.

Local ferries and/or catamarans also travel between the islands, but their timing doesn't always work well. For example, for the trip from Hvar to Korcula the passenger Catamaran leaves Hvar late in the afternoon, meaning that you'd really have to overnight in Korcula, for 2 nights to see any of it as the catamaran returns to Hvar at 7:00 am in the morning only.

I'm an unsure of the timetables to the other islands. You'll have to also consider if they travel daily or directly to the other island - for some, you'd have to go to Split and then to the other island.

I dowloaded the ferry timetable from this site. It wasn't very expensive and I found it very useful to have all of the info I needed in one place.

http://www.croatiatraveller.com/support/FerryGuide.htm

Croatian national ferry company is http://www.jadrolija.hr , there you can find all the time tables.

If you have any questions please feel free to send us a message.

Kind regards

The easiest way to get around Hvar Island is by car or scooter, no question about it. You may not need wheels every day of your stay but they come in handy to get off the beaten track. Several local companies will rent you a car or scooter to pick up in Hvar Town , Stari Grad or other location. Try:

Navigare: tel 021-718 721 Pelegrini: tel 021- 742 750 Lukarent: tel 021-741 440

The "new road" from Stari Grad to Hvar town is in good shape but the cross-island road to Sucuraj is run-down.

You can also visit Hvar Island by bus . The bus company is Cazmatrans ( tel 021 765 904) which links Hvar Town , Stari Grad , Stari Grad ferry port, Jelsa , Sucuraj, Vrboska and other destinations. The Hvar bus schedule here may help you to plan your trip, but check for updates on your arrival. Note that buses do not meet all ferries ; call in advance or take one of the waiting taxis. You can book Hvar buses online at getbybus .
