ZAMBALES | Food Trip ~ Where To Eat In Zambales 2024
My Zambaleño food experience was always about mangoes, freshly caught tunas, and delectable kakanin rice cakes. But the past Dinamulag Festival weekend introduced me to more than the usual table fares in the province, discovering the more metropolitan side of eating places in Zambales. From local dishes and Filipino comfort food, to street food and posh café offerings, I was pleasantly surprised at the variety culinary places in Zambales worthy of a side trip from its beaches and mountains.

One of the go-to restaurants in Iba, Zambales when it comes to Filipino food is Sonsing. The restaurant is named after the owner’s father whose love of cooking was passed down to his son. They actually serve more than the usual Filipino favorites—their menu packed with everything from burgers, steaks, Japanese, Chinese, and Western dishes. During our visit, filled to brimming as our table was, it didn’t even reach a fourth of their offerings.
We were able to sample their pinangat na labong sa gata, salmon sashimi, California maki, black fungus soup, crispy pata kare-kare, Zambalyete, insarabasab (Ilocano roasted pork) , kalderetang kambing, binagoongang lechon kawali, and one of their special rice to pair it with, tinapa fried rice .
Their pinangat , a house specialty with origins from the Bicol Region, stood out among the rest, along with their crispy pata kare-kare —which was really peanuty and has a very crispy pork—served with delicious bagoong . I was also intrigued by their Zambalyete which seemed to be sautéed cubed tuna with a helping of bagoong , topped with tartar sauce, and thin strips of mango—it was definitely very Zambales. And let’s not forget the tinapa fried rice and black fungus soup , which actually brought everything together really well.
For desserts, two boxfuls of special cassava cake—regular and ube —sealed the final sweet notes. Delicious.

We need not stray far for our after-meal coffee fix. Right next door to Sonsing is the Oh-Ben Baked Café. Oh-Ben. Oven. Gets? Lol.
Operated by the same family, the café is geared more for the younger crowd with its black on wood interiors and coffee-ism wall quotes. Very hipster. We were able to try out their cinnamon buns, a few slices of cakes, and of course, their coffee—which was pretty good.
Oh-Ben Baked Café is currently closed for renovation, but their cookies and pastries can still be bought at The Bakery by S.E.

LC’S STOP & CHOW
ADDRESS: NATL. HI-WAY, LONGOS, CABANGAN | CONTACT: +63 (949) 155-1998 | OPENING HOURS: 7AM-9PM | GPS MAP: 15.144496, 120.052117 | MENU
I’ve always passed by LC’s Stop & Chow in Cabangan —the old restaurant was just a hop away from my uncle’s house—but for some reason, I’ve always failed to visit. It took a festival and a change of location for LC’s before I finally got to have a taste of their food.
Still located in Cabangan, on a more spacious parcel of land and with a lot more stylish restaurant—which reminds me of food places in Tagaytay , by the way—LC’s Stop & Chow is a legend in Zambales. The owners originally hail from Batangas before transferring to Subic, then Cabangan, where they finally put up a restaurant. Their menu consists of Filipino fares with a dash of Batangeño flair. Guest their specialty? Bulalo , of course.
And along with the two bowls of bulalo that came sliding down our table, we were served with pans of pizza, plates of pinakbet, kalderetang kambing , and the most beautifully fried crispy pata I’ve ever laid eyes upon. Their bulalo is reminiscent of the Mahogany Market bulaluhan in Tagaytay —which they aptly claim on their menu—and their pizza options, especially the Overload was indeed fully loaded. It was honestly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tried. LC’s crispy pata ,on the other hand, is one of the best, if not the best crispy pata I’ve had. The way they cut and fried it was simply genius, making everything crispy and lessening the hassle of knifing the pork into bite-sized pieces.
It really made me wonder why it took this long before I finally ate at LC’s Cabangan.

THE BAKERY BY S.E.
ADDRESS: J.GONZALES ST. COR. MAGSAYSAY AVE., IBA | CONTACT: +63 (47) 307-2514 | OPENING HOURS: 10AM-12MN | GPS MAP: 15.326600, 119.978515 | MENU
À la midnight snack, we went to the Bakery by S.E. in Iba before retiring for the night. The burgers are to die for, M —one of the organizers—kept on repeating. Alright, so burger it is! Plus, errr , a few helpings of cookies, cheesecake, pastas, muffins, and a huge bowl of soup on the side. Wait a minute, didn’t we just eat?!
But yes, The Bakery’s burgers are indeed to die for. Dubbed as the Mango Jalapeno Cheeseburger , it’s about eight inches high, loaded with multiple patties, sloppily lathered with mayo and cheese, and set with bits of mangoes and jalapeño chilies. It was incredibly good and also, incredibly hard to eat without making a mess. The combination of flavors work really well together, with the jalapeño bits giving an additional kick. Really, really good. I’d have to say it again. Really, really good.
And not to forget about the other plates on the table, I’d also have to commend their carbonara and spaghetti —the servings were on the petite size, especially after the burger—but every forkful was well worth the calories.

BIGFOOT RESTAURANT
ADDRESS: BRGY. WEST DIRITA., SAN ANTONIO | CONTACT: +63 (908) 456-8791 | OPENING HOURS: 11AM-11PM, CLOSED ON TUESDAYS | GPS MAP: 14.965259, 120.086603 | MENU
One of the OG restaurants in the whole of Zambales, Bigfoot Restaurant has been around since 1979 and was quite popular during the time of the US Bases in the province. Located in the town of San Antonio, it was in fact frequented by US personnel from Subic during its initial outing as a restobar, before it shifted its focus as a restaurant with a videoke—one of the first at the time—which quickly attracted the local crowd. They have since removed the videoke machine, retaining only their delicious food.
During a random road trip from Cabangan, my wife suggested we snack there just to relive childhood memories in Zambales. With no real plan, we randomly ordered their their sisig, pancit guisado , and halo-halo . That last one, an essential Bigfoot order, she said. Even their menu declares that it is the best halo-halo in Zambales .
For its price, I found the sisig to be on the small side. It has no mayo and egg, something most Kapampangan would appreciate. It was crispy and tasted like any other good sisig , which isn’t really bad thing. I mean, why fix something that ain’t broken. I just wish it has a more generous portion and served on sizzling plate for added oomph.
Like their sisig , their pancit guisado tasted as it should—well, for me, at least, my companions all found it to be a tad too salty. I love how fresh the veggies were and how crunchy they still were. They served it with a couple of calamansi , which seemed unnecessary since the dish already has that distinct calamansi flavor. It’s actually one of their bestsellers, along with their crispy pata , fried chicken, kare-kare , and Filipino-style pizza.
Everyone in the group agreed that the winner at Bigfoot Restaurant was their Bigfoot Halo-Halo . Their ice was finely shaved, ala Razon’s, was mixed with an almost syrupy blended langka , and has a very pinipig flavor. It’s topped with two slices of leche flan, and a scoop of ube and vanilla ice cream.
CASA BARAKA
ADDRESS: PUROK 1, BRGY. SAN ISIDRO., CABANGAN | CONTACT: +63 (939) 710-9226 | OPENING HOURS: 8AM-10:30PM, DAILY | GPS MAP: 15.162014, 120.045557 | MENU
One of the newest cafes to pop up in Zambales, Casa Baraka, opened with Skarlet of Put3ska skanking like a Manila Girl along its vast garden, has bucolic farmlands as backdrop, has a chef holding a resume for a fifteen-year stint in Boracay (from The Lind, Crimson, and Movenpick), has an Arabic name that means blessing, and have pet ducks that strut across their yard. While you’re probably expecting something eclectic from Casa Baraka, what they actually serve is five-star restaurant-caliber Filipino comfort food.
►SEE: THE LIND BORACAY DINNER
We visited the casa for breakfast, hankering for the holy trinity of Filipino morning meal— tapsilog, tocilog , and longsilog . That last one, however, was out of stock. They explained that they make everything themselves—from scratch. So if they can’t procure the proper ingredients, they simply don’t offer them for the day. Alright, commendable. So, instead of garlic longganisa , we opted for their much vaunted hamburger .
Their silogs are priced a bit too steeply for me. To be fair, the meat portion is a tad more generous than usual, has two eggs, atchara on the sides, fried rice, and comes with a cup of Milano Blend Arabica-Robusta brewed coffee. While the tocino was good, their beef tapa was better—beef strips with the perfect combination of savory, vinegary, and salty elements—making me wish I ordered it instead. I did, nevertheless, got the full experience a couple of days later when our aunt treated us to a takeaway breakfast from Casa Baraka.
The Baraka Burger with Fries , has a quarter-pound of Brazilian beef sandwiched with slices of tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles on a brioche bread. It comes with a serving of potato wedges complemented by a ketchup and some sort of mayo dip. The patty has that distinct char-grilled taste, very subtle flavor. I, however, prefer my burger to have a much stronger flavor and with a softer bun—but I might be the minority here, as they said it’s one of their best-sellers, and not a few people I spoke with in Cabangan has nothing but praises for it.
While having breakfast, we got to talking with its very animated owner—unaware, lunchtime crept up on us and we were soon ordering food again. This time we requested for their mushroom truffle oil pizza and bagnet kare kare .
I’m no truffle expert, but their truffle pizza was quite good. The winner for me though was the bagnet kare-kare . Serving size is massive, it’s actually good for two to three persons—totally justifying its price. It has generous amount of veggies— pechay , stringbeans, and eggplants, no banana blossoms though—and more importantly, it has chunks of bagnet . It’s not your usual kare-kare —with actual peanuts bits still swimming on its thick, creamy, and somehow garlicky, sauce. While I wish that the bagnet skin still retained its crispiness, it’s still one of the best kare-kare I’ve tried in Zambales, or any other place for that matter.

CRYSTAL BEACH RESORT
Crystal Beach Resort is located in the town of San Narciso, Zambales . A town right just after San Antonio, the jump-off point for Anawangin and Nagsasa coves. The resort offers surfing lessons, surfboard rentals, camping, bonfires, and sometimes beach parties when events are held in the place.
It is the time of the year again for our annual camping trip. We’re choosing between Magalawa Island and Crystal Beach Resort. Both are in Zambales and offer a camping experience. We chose the one with the ease of access. Magalawa Island requires a boat transfer, so we chose Crystal Beach Resort.
GOING THERE
We rode a Victory Liner bus bound for Iba/Sta. Cruz in Caloocan. We told the ticket booth that we were going to drop at San Narciso and charged us 277 pesos per head. The trip took almost 4 hours. We dropped near San Sebastian Parish Church and took a trike going straight to Crystal Beach Resort. It took us less than 10 minutes.
CRYSTAL BEACH RESORT – CHILL AND RELAX
We arrived at the resort around noon. We registered at the front desk and paid the amount of 295 Pesos per head (We brought our own tent). One of the staff guided us to the campsite, but we chose a spot near the beach. The resort is wonderful — simple, well-maintained, and clean.
We set camp beneath the pine trees and from there, we have a view of the sea. While we cooked our food, we sat there in peace. It was very relaxing.
There are cottages, swings, and benches for you to relax on. The sand is grayish-white like what beaches in Zambales look like. The sea has strong waves so it is really recommended for surfers.
One of the highlights of the resort is the breathtaking view of the sunset. We sat down in awe and waited until darkness came.
We cooked and ate our dinner by the beach. By the way, if you haven’t brought any food, they have a restaurant. We just really want to cook our own food. 😛 After dinner, we stayed at the campsite where the bonfire was lit for people to gather beneath the stars.
The next day, we took the time to explore the resort and take some photos. The place is picturesque. Luckily, there were few guests, we had the liberty to take clean shots.
After lunch, we checked out of the resort and returned back to Manila. We were very satisfied with our stay here. If only we could stay longer, we’d definitely do other things that the resort offers. I want to return here again someday just to chill and relax. This is a place to be with nature. A place to let go of worries and be in peace. If you want a weekend getaway near Manila, I recommend you go here.

Travel Diary: Quick Beach Getaway in San Narciso, Zambales
If you are looking to go the beach to surf or swim and the usual Elyu and Baler choices have already been exhausted and you just want to go somewhere else, try San Narciso, Zambales.
San Narciso, Zambales is just about a 3-hour drive away from Manila. Zambales, generally, has a lot of beautiful beaches, one of which is my favorite, Potipot . Some years ago, Anawangin and Nagsasa coves became popular among local adventure seekers as well.
Beautiful Serendipity
Last Saturday, my friend and I went on a road trip. We had both wanted to go to the beach and planned to drive to Subic to look for a place to stay overnight by the beach. Midway through the trip, since we were way too early, we decided to go to Iba, Zambales where she had been before. On the way there though, we saw the signage for Crystal Beach Resort in San Narciso. We both had been there before and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the waves there the first time I went. We both squealed while we shared stories and then we knew, we were never going to Iba. We decided to just check out the resort to see if there were any rooms available. As this was a spur-of-the-moment trip, we didn’t have any reservations.
Needless to say, several other people also had the same plans as us and the resort didn’t have any rooms left. The only available accommodation they had was space to camp if we had our own tent, which we didn’t. There were places outside that rented tents at P300 though, but we didn’t feel like camping. The staff said, we could try another resort which was Prince JB. The resort shared the same beachfront as them and was just a block away.
So we went there and inquired about their rates and they had available rooms! We checked in, dropped our bags, and went out to look for food!
We walked over to Crystal Beach Resort to eat at their restaurant. There were a lot of choices but we settled for chopsuey, buttered fried chicken, pot roast beef, and dessert.
After lunch, we walked along the beach to take some pictures of the place. It was about noon, so there were very few people swimming. The place has improved a lot compared to how it was when we first went there.
The beach had gray (almost white) sand.
This new section had cottages covered by these trees.
This is one of their Kampsites. They rent out these tents. But there’s a space were you can camp using your own tent too.
Check out this #SingleZone
And what about this Nami Island-inspired walkway?
They also had these cute birds!
Sunset-Watching
After a few hours of swimming and lounging in the sun, we capped the day by watching the sunset with beer and snacks.
Took fun sunset photos.
We then ate a light dinner of isaw and pancit canton at a nearby carinderia before retiring for the night.
Definitely coming back
I think this could be a potential favorite. It is very accessible to Manila and it has waves!!! For the most part of 2017, I had been obsessed with La Union because I really like swimming in wavy beaches (PS, I don’t surf though, and I don’t really swim. I just like playing with the waves, and enjoy the occasional wipeouts. Teehee). It’s good to know that I have another option. Although next time, I’d probably reserve rooms at Crystal Beach in advance. As much as I liked the people who assisted us at Prince JB, the place isn’t really recommended if you want to have a quiet time at night. We barely had rest because the room in front of ours was singing videoke the whole night.

Crystal beach resort, zambales – travel guide + itinerary.
Crystal Beach Resort is located in Brgy. La Paz, San Narcisco, Zambales. It’s a 4 hours drive away from Manila.
It’s been two months since the last time that we went out of Manila for a short vacation. And so, me and my siblings decided to look for a beach in Zambales. After doing some research, we came across Crystal Beach Resort’s pictures on Facebook. After reading reviews about it, we packed our things and get ourselves ready.
We left Manila at 9:00 AM on Thursday. We wanted to avoid the crowd so we went there on weekdays.
How to go to Crystal Beach Resort, Zambales?
We bought our tickets at Victory Liner Station in Cubao bound for Iba, Zambales. They also have terminals in Pasay, Caloocan, and Sampaloc. For the schedule, check out their page and enter your origin and destination (Iba). Tell the conductor to drop you off in San Narciso, Zambales. Fare: Php 315. Get off near San Sebastian Church in San Narciso, Zambales. Ride a tricycle to Crystal Beach Resort. Fare: P30 for 2 pax.
I think also need to add how to go back to Manila. If it’s weekend or peak season, tricycles are just waiting outside the resort but if it’s not, when you check out from the resort, ask the receptionist where you can ride a tricycle going to the bus terminal. They are kind enough to call one for you.

What to expect in Crystal Beach?
We didn’t reserve a room beforehand. 😎 I was actually confident that there will be available rooms since it’s weekdays. Though, it’s still advisable to book online or contact them- to be sure.
We arrived there at 1:40 PM just in time for check-in. (Check-in time – 2 PM: Check-out time – 12:00 noon). We got an air-conditioned room for 3.
They have this complimentary stuff in the room where we stayed.
After setting our bags. We rest a bit and then started to explore the area. The first thing that got our attention is this bamboo “hallway”. I don’t know what to call this. But it was so cute.
They also have a body massage and tattoo area. But it’s not available when we get there. Or we need to inform the admin if we wanted to avail? Well, we don’t have plans so it didn’t matter.
Look how beautiful these trees are.
They also have tents available for those who wanted to experience glamping. They have different rooms and cottages to meet different needs – small rooms for couples, and bigger rooms for a group of friends or family. It’s up to you to pick which style and budget suits you. Seeing these tents makes me want to try glamping in the future.
Beach Area:
The place is actually huge and peaceful. The beach has a nice view. They have small huts and beaches where we enjoyed watching the sunset.
We took our dinner in their restaurant. Meals are a bit expensive. But it’s ok. Masarap naman. 😂 I enjoyed the breakfast buffet the next day. It has a wide variety of choices.
On day two, after eating breakfast we continued exploring the area. We found this cute area – they call the jungle . It has cottages at the side and surfing pads for those who wanted to try surfing.
I really enjoy our stay at the resort. Though I wish they also have a swimming pool. Wow! Nagrequest. 🤣

Crystal Beach Resort Travel Guide (San Narciso, Zambales)
by LoveEatWander · January 10, 2018
Crystal Beach Resort is the most popular beach resort in San Narciso, Zambales. It is known for its shore lined with pine trees, comfortable accommodation, and well-maintained grounds. This place is one of the best surfing spots in the province. Unlike other beaches in Zambales that boast white sands, Crystal Beach Resort offers black sand (those viral photos you see in Facebook are deceiving).

If you are looking for an Instagram-worthy beach resort with nice accommodation and can offer outdoor activities such as camping and surfing, Crystal Beach Resort is definitely a very good option. However, if you are looking for a beautiful, serene white-sand beach where you can do soul searching, sorry to burst your bubbles, skip this place and go to other more beautiful and relaxing beaches in Zambales where alternatives are abundant. We would like to reiterate that Crystal Beach Resort is not as beautiful in person compared to the online photos.
When we visited the place, my hopes were high. I was expecting for a white sand beach with crystal clear waters and pine trees surround. I was heartbroken when I saw the place, it was way too far from the amazing photos I saw online. Almost unrecognizable. So here’s a piece of unsolicited advice from someone who expected too much: “Hindi sya ganun kaganda. Huwag masyado mag-expect. Masakit, bes!”
Anyhow, if you plan to push through with your Crystal Beach Resort trip, allow us to assist you with that…

** It usually takes 3-4 hours to travel from Manila to San Narciso, Zambales. Although in our case, it took us 8 grueling hours! Because (1st) We left Metro Manila pretty late; quarter before 12NN (2nd) Instead of waiting for 30 minutes so we can ride the Iba-bound bus, we instead took the bus bound for Olongapo and from there we took another bus bound for Iba. So yeah, do not do what we did or you will end up disliking your weekend.
VIA A PRIVATE CAR FROM MANILA
1. Take the Balintawak exit to North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) 2. Exit on SCTEX on the last tollgate of NLEX. 3. Upon exiting, take the route going to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). 4. Crystal Beach is more of a surfer’s paradise than a family beach. There are swells and breaks so if you have kids, this resort may not be a very good option unless you plan to just stay in their comfortable rooms and cottages. However, if you are the athletic type who enjoys extreme beach activities, you can visit this place and surf to your heart’s content.
January 02, 2018 – The new rate for a day tour is PhP500, inclusive of PhP150 consumable for food and drinks. (Thanks to one of our readers, Jan Abellera for the info.)

CRYSTAL BEACH RESORT TRAVEL GUIDE : DIY ITINERARY
CRYSTAL BEACH RESORT TRAVEL GUIDE : DIY ITINERARY | Looking for a quick laid back trip from Manila? Zambales — my go to weekend destination, my favorite beach destination as it has so many to offer, laid back ambiance, nice beach and accommodation plus going to Zambales is pretty convenient from Manila as it only requires 4 – 5 hours bus ride trip.
In this blog, I’ll be sharing with you my trip to San Narciso preferably the famous resort – Crystal Beach Resort.
HERE’S MORE ZAMBALES OPTIONS TO LOOK FOR :
It was a typical weekday schedule as we plan a trip for another beach escapade, tired mind and bodies over our busy workload I initially thought of a chillin’ trip, nothing much of an activity but plain relaxation. A weekday, as always, the best time to visit beaches in the Philippines, you get the entire space for yourself and the calmness was truly felt. I was initially shocked how Crystal Beach looks pretty stunning, it may not have that crystal white sand beach but the golden brown to ash grey sand does not matter as we gaze over the sun and swim thru the beach. Plus the food that the restaurant is offering was also worth the visit and the ambiance everywhere is worthy for a snap.
HERE’S HOW TO GO TO CRYSTAL BEACH FROM MANILA?
- we boarded from Victory Liner (Caloocan Terminal) bus fare is PHP 272.00
- you may also ride in Cubao or choose other bus line companies around area
- it was a 5 hour bus trip with stopovers
- Alight at San Narciso Church (tell you bus conductor that you are heading to Crystal Beach so he can help you out when it’s your time to alight)
- From San Narciso Church, ride a tricycle to bring you straight to Crystal Beach Resort (Fare is PHP 15 per person)
GOING BACK TO MANILA
- Ride a tricycle back bound to San Narciso Church
- From there, wait for Victory Bus heading to Caloocan or Cubao (this comes regularly)
ROOM RATES AND ACCOMMODATION :
You’ll be surprised that Crystal Beach has so many options to choose from, it depends on your preference, budget and availability. You may camp thru the tent around the beach, do glamping for a different experience, a nipa hut or a private room with AC and a private CR — they got all options to you.
- For rates of the accommodation you may check thru : http://www.crystalbeach.com.ph/stay.php
As for our end, we chose to book “Matthew Attic 1” this is a room perfect for 4 pax worth P4,950.00 // the room is with AC, a private restroom, 4 single beds, a cabled TV with towels and toileries, it also include a free breakfast, you may add up to 2 addl more bed for P1,000 per pax.
Each pax only has to pay P1,190 for an overnight stay with all the amenities mentioned. Tent Camping may go as low as P500 pesos per night per person, so everything is still really dependent on your final budget.
Since it was a lean season, and booked on a weekday we got 25% off from our total accommodation bill.
The beach area is a combination of a golden yellow sand to greyish ash sand. Though it does not have that white sand feels over the water, it was really clean and everyone would still end up soaking in the water. They also offer surfing lesson should you wish one.
Inside the resort there is actually a restaurant which I recommend everyone to try too! They have affordable dishes and definitely worth the try. Price Range per dish from P120 – P200 pesos, it may be shared by 2 or more in the group so you’ll be able to save more to divide all actual expenses.
FINAL NOTES :
- As a whole, I enjoyed our overnight stay in this resort, it was very relaxing and the view was really wonderful. I do not edit much of my photos to make sure it speaks of the reality of the place and indeed, it was really beautiful
- Traveling on a weekday always have this advantage and it makes you own the place for a while
- I loved the accommodation and the privacy we had during our stay, but if you opt for a cheaper alternatives there is still a lot of it to look for
- You may spend a laid back trip on this or do series of activities you’d like to have

Looks like you’ve found that getaway you craved after the long week of work. The perfect place, judging by your photos! 🙂 The Attic is so cute. I also love that nipa hut, I’ve never stayed at one and it sure looks interesting. What does “nipa” stand for? So great that it’s all there on the beach, with such refreshing breakfast and nice scenery. I’d enjoy few long walks along the beach. 🙂
My family and I enjoy family-friendly resorts like this with affordable accommodations.. 🙂 I’m sure we will enjoy this resort too when we visit.. And I’d definitely agree on visiting resorts on a weekday as it is less crowded.. Love the Nami Island Trees as well. You are right, they are IG-worthy indeed.. 🙂
Philippines has so many lovely places, it’s hard to pick which ones to shortlist for my trip in 2018. Zambales sounds like a great weekend getaway from Manila, just the laid-back kind of place I’d love to pitch my tent and camp at, next to the beach, sip on a margarita, read a book and relax. And it’s pretty inexpensive! Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
As someone who lives on the coast, I know what you mean when you say – Best time to go to the beach is on weekdays. In Goa, we do not even step out during peak tourist season. However, sometimes we go to the beach near us just to see the tourists enjoying themselves.
I was invited to visit Manila last year but sadly the trip fell through, as I was so excited about it, both for the culture, the landscape and above all the food! When I do finally make it, I’m adding Zambales to my list, it looks like a great choice to chill out and relax after some time in the city.
Crystal Beach Resort looks like one of those places where you can just forget about the world and enjoy yourself! The tip of visiting during the week is very useful, because we don’t particularly like overcrowded beaches, they ruin the atmosphere! Thank you for the heads up!
Crystal Beach Resort looks really lovely! The buffet breakfast looks really good, I do think you can tell a lot about a place to stay by the quality of its breakfast! I love the idea of the tents on the beach, something I would like to try!
Zambales and Crystal Beach Resort sound like a great retreat from Manila – and so close! Clever to have taken a weekday escape – I imagine it would be quite crowded on the weekends when everyone else is free. Love that the resort has accommodation options for everyone’s budgets – glamping would be something I would go for I think!
Sounds like a very relaxing trip – I could go for a beach vacation right now!
You had me at marshmallow bonfire. The Philippines have been calling me for so long. Posts like yours remember how beautiful it is. I must get over there soon! The beach is so expansive. Weekdays looks like the best time to visit because there are fewer crowds.
I always say that the Philippines never fails to surprise. Just when you thought you knew all about its pristine beaches and exotic island, a hidden gem pops out from nowhere. The Crystal beach resort seems to be one such gem. I love the wide open spaces and the rustic look that the place has and the fact that it is so near to Manila makes it convenient too.
Beautiful. Someday! Never seen that side of the world before.

Zambales Travel Guide: Where to Go, Resorts, What to Do
Best Time to Go to Zambales
How to get to zambales, from manila, where to stay in zambales, what to see and do in zambales, go island hopping, visit an inflatable water park, check out picturesque waterfalls, shop at duty-free centers, see the capones lighthouse, surf at san narciso, camp out at the beach, hike mount pinatubo, what to eat in zambales.
- Sample Itinerary in Zambales
Day 1: Arrival + Falls tour + Water Park
Day 2: sightseeing + island and cove hopping + stargazing, day 3: swimming + departure.
Zambales holds a lot of adventures and natural wonders for travelers. It's surrounded by gorgeous beach coves, waves you can ride, an inflatable waterpark, a nearby safari, and lush views. The famous Anawangin Cove , Nagsasa Cove, and Capones Island reside in this beautiful slice of paradise that you can explore when joining Zambales tours .
If you're considering going here, then there's a high chance that you've read or heard about the beaches and coves in Zambales that are popular for camping trips. This destination is a three-hour drive from Manila , making it one of the most accessible beach getaway destinations for those in the city.

Zambales is also the home to the popular town of Subic. This area alone is largely responsible for tourism in the province, as it's home to many Subic beach resorts and promotes ecotourism through guided treks, wreck diving, and jungle tours. It's also common for people to drop by outlet and tax-free stores here for shopping.
Read on to find out everything about Zambales so you can plan your trip soon!
As with any location, you'd want to consider the weather and peak conditions before you go. Since the province covers a large area in Central Luzon, the weather in Zambales varies on which town you visit.
Generally, it follows the same seasonal patterns as the rest of the Philippines, with wet months and dry months. Make sure you check weather forecasts to avoid any potential storms or heavy rainfall that could fall on your planned trip dates.
November to May is typically the dry season, where it's enjoyable to go island hopping in the Philippines and do all sorts of water sports and activities. December might be densely crowded due to the holidays. The breeze is a bit cooler around January to February, which also means the sun doesn't feel as harsh during this time.
April and May are peak summer seasons, which also spell out large crowds. If you're not a fan of having a lot of people at the beach on your trip, consider booking an exclusive resort or go on a different month.
May to October is the wet season. Although, it doesn't rain every day, so it's still worth checking out forecasts for a more accurate picture of weather conditions around this time.
If you want to go surfing, however, you should visit during these months. The waves are much better at San Narciso, Zambales, which is good news for beginner to pro level surfers anywhere.
Crowds are thinner too, and hotels sometimes lower their rates during the so-called "off-peak" season.
If you have the flexibility to spare, check the weather a week before your intended stay during off-peak season to score lower fees on hotels.
Zambales is located in Central Luzon, Philippines. Thanks to booming tourism and road developments, commuting has become increasingly accessible now more than ever.
If you're coming from Manila or the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), take the options below:
By Private Car
One of the most convenient ways to reach the Zambales proper is via a private car or hire a van. You can use the Waze app to guide you through the best roads to pass by for the least amount of time possible.
It usually takes around three hours to get here from Manila. Expect an extended drive if the traffic is heavy, or if you're going to a further part of the province.
You can also stop by to ask the locals for directions, or get yourself a Zambales map to get a better overview of your trip.
Catch Victory Liner buses from Manila and research the closest terminals near you. The two most popular ones are Cubao, Quezon City (northern part of Metro Manila) or Pasay City (closer to NAIA).
Take the one that's bound for Olongapo. The trip will last around four hours. If you're going to San Antonio, you can take a 40-minute bus ride from Olongapo when you alight.
If you're coming from the Clark International Airport (CIA) from other parts of the Philippines or the globe, these will be your preferred travel options:
Similar to driving from Manila, you can check the Waze app to help you get to the Olongapo or Subic town proper. It should only take you a 45-minute drive as Clark Airport is already in the northern part of Zambales. You may also get by with the help of locals since you're already in their territory.
At Clark, head for the Dau bus terminal in Angeles City. It's 15 minutes away from Clark Airport. There are buses there that are bound for Olongapo as well.
It should take roughly one to two hours, depending on the traffic. If the buses are full, there are vans available to take you to the same destination. The travel time is roughly the same, if not faster since it won't have as many multiple stops.
If you're going to visit Subic in particular, or if your hotel will be located there, you can go here straight from Clark. Victory Liner has a schedule of bus rides that will take you right from the airport to Subic or Olongapo.
It will take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. These buses leave on time regardless if it's full, so make sure to catch the ride at the time most convenient for you.
Many Zambales resorts are overall an affordable place to stay in. They fight for the attention of tourists as they all have different advantages to offer, such as location, amenities, size, and views.

If you're planning to stay overnight at the coves, you could try camping for free or book a stay at one of the glamping resorts . If you're not about that camping life, here are the options you can choose from depending on your budget. Note that most of these are hotels in Subic .

It's situated near the beach as well, which means you won't miss any of those views that you may get from other budget hotels in the area. Bonus: There's a swimming pool, too!

The Zambawood Journey: The Story of the Secluded Paradise
Posted by Lonely Travelogue | May 30, 2014 | Uncategorized
Zambawood – a Luxury Resort that offers more than what an ordinary resort in San Narciso, Zambales can offer. When you enter its intricate door you will know that you are a guest of a home built by love and compassion. Zambawood is a vision to love and appreciate life in raw and the most genuine way.
Zambawood is a private resort in Zambales offering a tailored package vacation to its clientele depending on the size of the group, its personality and what it wants. Everything will be custom fit according to your need, wants and budget. Zambawood is a resort but I shall call it a house because I felt home when I was there. We traveled 200 kilometers north of Manila to experience luxury in the comfort of a home. A vast property filled with agoho trees. Zambawood Luxury Beach Resort is situated in what I consider a ranch – a private one opened for us to experience life in its fullest.
We arrived at 12NN in time for lunch. We were welcomed by big umbrellas and the all-smiled Zambawood staff to protect us from the heat of the sun. At the main door was Miss Rachel Harrison, the owner of Zambawood in her summer outfit made perfect by her big smile. All of us were hungry but we cannot refrain from clicking our cameras pointing in each of the rich pieces of furniture inside the house.
We were all wowed when we entered the house! It’s a dream vacation house. Miss Rachel, sensitive enough with our interest began touring us inside the house. She bubbly showed us each room, bathroom, the living room, the entertainment room, the kitchen, and the pool area. High ceiling, intricate walls, big doors and most of all fresh air from the West Philippine Sea – how could you not love the place? Each piece of wood and textiles has a story to tell. Every piece of furniture is a point of conversation. Some pieces are shipped from China, some from Indonesia and Japan while the linens came from India. Everything in the house was a product of Miss Rachel love for travel.
What I like the most is that some items have a touch of heritage. Some furniture is custom – made created for Zambawood from old pieces of wood of old houses torn down by the turn of the time. I fell in love with its raw walls and ceilings that use natural lights that brings glory to the house during day time. Wooden boardwalk beside the pool makes it a perfect spot for a poolside photo shoot in which we utilized to the fullest.
After we toured the house we were asked to sit in a dining table by the pool. I sat down on a couch and studied every piece of tableware in front of me. Even the plates, wine glass, and placemats are products of Miss Rachel’s life and travels. I was surprised to know that these pieces are decades old but still looks good.
In Filipino culture, precious items such as valuable plates and the like are being kept and displayed in the cabinet. You usually use these items whenever you have special occasion or have important guests. Miss Rachel letting us use her things is enough for me to understand that Zambawood is not just a resort; it’s a home being opened to us stranger – but stranger no more.
Time for the much-awaited lunch! The Zambawood staff prepared the most delicious and fresh seafood for us. With white wine, tinola, steamed fish and assorted local vegetables with fish paste sauce, all we need was a good talk to make the afternoon perfect! Certainly, we did enjoy the fresh food over the life story of Miss Rachel Harrison.
Most vegetables came from Julyan’s Farm and most if not all are organic. Like a home, Zambawood offers what is available during the season. Though they have a menu for guests, more often than not the Zambawood staff cooks what are available on the farm and in the market. Rest assured that what they will serve is fresh and authentic food delicacy of Zambales. Zambawood, by the way, believes in sustainable tourism. I admire Miss Rachel’s vision to help the community. The first step is hiring only the locals and instilling in them the value of ownership. If every employee has this sense of ownership, there you will experience divine service. What is Zambawood? Lunchtime was the most memorable part of my Zambawood experience. Here I got to know Miss Rachel Harrison and why Zambawood came to life. Like a home she did not just open the doors of her house to us, she opened her life – their lives to us. She showed, through her stories that Zambawood came to life because and only because of her love to her son – Julyan Harrison.
Aside from many woods – which are pine trees surrounding Zambawood, it is named after Hollywood . Because it is a private property secluded from many beach resorts in Zambales, a handful of indie films was shot in the area- thus Ms. Harrison named it after Hollywood.
Miss Rachel’s journey as a mother leads her to her roots in Zambales and there she builds Zambawood. Her family owns the property and when she knew that it is time to go back to the Philippines, she builds Zambawood for her son. It is Miss Rachel’s vision to build a life for her son Julyan – the very reason why Zambawood exists. Miss Rachel has a son with special needs – Julyan Harrison. Her tears and passionate storytelling made me felt her love for Julyan; how she wanted a normal life for her son Julyan – which every mother of the same case would want it. She’s doing it. She is creating a life for his son through Julyan’s Farm located inside Zambawood. It might not be as normal as we know what normal is but as for Miss Rachel, you have to accept that God gave us something special and unique so we can cherish it as it is – to value life in its raw state. Julyan may never be like us but a love of a mother will surely keep him going.
Zambawood is both home and playground for Julyan Harrison.
I remember vividly, word by word that Miss Rachel tried everything so that Julyan, his son can become just like everybody else. She tried all the possible therapy or medical treatment for her son. But there is a point that we realized we have to stop and accept things. Let’s make the (not)normal a normal thing for us and live happy and joyful to what God has given us, she said. Right now Julyan is doing farming with the assistance of Kuya Danny. Julyan found his purpose for his special state in Zambawood through Julyan’s Farm .
The Zambawood Store The talked roamed around Miss Rachel’s life, about us of course, her taste of so many things and the things that she wants to accomplish. One of the things she has in mind (and is working on) is the Zambawood Store where you can purchase priced products created by the most talented artist of this country. From bags to beach cover to footwear – hand made products from all over the archipelago made of the most indigenous materials will soon hit Zambawood.
Later that afternoon we enjoyed Zambawood and dipped in the pool before heading to the beach to watch the sunset. Zambawood staff prepared a makeshift tent for us with beer, wine, and potato chips. The best part, of course, was the moment we were sharing our life experiences while listening to Bruno Mars and the sound of the waves and while watching the sky turns yellow to orange to darkness.
We joined the world in observing Earth Hour. Because Zambawood is for sustainability we all agreed to turn off the lights and appreciate the dark with the light coming from the candles. Darkness is romantic only if you allow yourselves to relish thy soul. I observed that one’s true beauty can also be seen when the candle’s light flashes on the face. With nice spicy pasta prepared by Miss Rachel herself, some herbs (as a side dish) and white wine – the Zambawood EarthHour was classy romantic.
Every travel teaches me something. Every travel makes me better. Every travel instills me something. Every travel moves me further. The journey of Zambawood is more than inspiring – its life-changing. I hate to go but everything has to end except forever. So I will forever esteem my Zambawood experience. Time to wave my hand for goodbyes but hellos will follow whenever I see the all joyous picture of the people I shared the day through life and story. A kiss of goodbye actually does not mean “goodbye” it’s “see you soon!
See you soon Zambawood!

Your Guide to Hiking in the Philippines
Mt. Kapigpiglatan Dayhike Guide
Introduction.
Mt. Kapigpiglatan is a beginner-friendly mountain located in Barangay Omaya in the municipality of San Narciso in the province of Zambales. It has a difficulty of 3/9 and a trail class of 1 to 3. Mt. Kapigpiglatan is a minor climb and it has a height of 678 meters above sea level or 2224 feet. It was opened to the public in July 2023. Mt. Kapigpiglatan got its name from the Ilocano word “piglat” which means scar. According to locals, the mountain was named as such because in the past it was once a common pasture area for farm animals such as carabaos, cows, and horses as well as a hunting ground for deer and wild boards. Furthermore, the heavy rains in the region created a mud puddle where the farm animals washed and the digging marks left by the wild boars resembled scars from a distance.
Mt. Kapigpiglatan has a distance of 6.6 kilometers from the jump-off point up to the summit. It will take only three to four hours of hiking at an average pace in order for the mountaineers to reach the summit. Mt. Kapigpiglatan offers hikers astounding greenery scenery and a 360-degree scenic view of the nearby surroundings as well as the Cawag Hexa mountain range. So if you’re new to the hiking scene and you’re up for a challenge then Mt. Kapigpiglatan is the perfect mountain to try.
Name: Mt. Kapigpiglatan Difficulty: 3/9 Elevation: 678 MASL Jump-Off: Barangay Omaya, San Narciso, Zambales Hours to summit: 3 to 4 hours Features: fantastic view of Zambales landscape, greenery scenery and Veto Falls
My trip to Mt. Kapigpiglatan
After nearly six months of no hiking activities, I yearn for the mountains again. For this reason, I looked on the social media mountaineering group, and after hours of browsing dayhike events I finally found my next mountain to hike and it is the newly opened Mt. Kapigpiglatan in Zambales. It was Saturday evening when I left my house and boarded a taxi going to the assembly point in Mandaluyong. After twenty minutes of waiting, all the group members finally arrived at the assembly point and after that, our private van started rolling towards San Narciso, Zambales. It was around 2:30 am when we had our stopover and I had our early breakfast at the typical eatery at San Marcelino, Zambales where I buy Tapsilog and a brewed coffee to have an energy at the climb later.
After our breakfast, our van started heading towards the registration point of Mt. Kapigpiglatan. It was around 4:18 am when we arrived at the basketball court and registered ourselves and after a few minutes, we had a brief orientation from the mountain guides and organizer wherein they discussed the mountain trail and the do’s and don’ts while hiking. After that, we started walking, and the initial part of the trail was on a cemented pathway and a straightforward trail in the forest. A few minutes later we reached the junction that had the direction or signage. To the right is going to the summit and to the left is going to the Veto Falls. So our group heads in the right direction and after that we cross a small stream.
Then the trail becomes a continuous ascending with greenery everywhere I look around. After hours of hiking, we reached the man-made wooden Bird nest where our group saw the plain fields and rivers of Zambales. Afterward, we continued hiking and I felt like I was in the province of Bukidnon because of the verdant hills nearby which is really soothing to the eyes. Then we passed the vast grassland area and I could feel the heat already because the sun was already high at that time.
It was around 8:29 am when we reached the summit of Mt. Kapigpiglatan and I noticed that there was only one tree that could protect us from the sun. From the summit, I could see the broad landscape of Zambales as well as the Cawag Hexa mountain range and the West Philippine Sea. Without a doubt, I’ve been mesmerized again with nature and God always amazes me whenever I climb mountains.
After enjoying the view from the summit, our mountain guides told our group that it was time to start descending towards our side trip which is the three-tier horsetail waterfall called Veto Falls. We arrived at the falls after hours of descending and some of the members took a refreshing dip at the falls while others just ate their packed lunch. Then I found out that the water here is so ice cold but nevertheless, we take our time to enjoy the peaceful place.
Afterward, it was time to go back to the jump-off point and after one hour and eighteen minutes of descending we reached the jump-off point and I ate my remaining snack inside my backpack. Truly it was a solid experience for all of us and we thank our local mountain guides for their assistance throughout the whole climb. I am so thankful that I was able to experience the beauty of the newly discovered mountain in Zambales. To God be all the glory.

Things to bring on your visit to Mt. Kapigpiglatan:
Cash and pocket money Cellphone and power bank Trail food 1.5 liters of bottled water Cap Umbrella Hiking shoes or hiking sandals Extra underwear, shirt, and short Toiletries
Reminders and Tips:
- For public notice, starting September 2023, the Barangay Omaya Tourism Assistance Center will implement a no downpayment, no reservation policy in order to prevent scams, hoarding of slots, and same-day cancellations. Note : all mountaineers are required to register first and undergo proper visitor orientation at the Barangay Omaya Tourism Assistance desk which is located beside the barangay hall. For the safety of all mountaineers, they must only transact with registered mountain tour guides.
- You could refill your empty bottled water at the Veto Falls.
- It’s better if you start your hike as early as 4:30 am to avoid the intense heat of the sun, especially during the summer season. On the other hand, don’t forget to waterproof your belongings during the rainy season.
- I highly recommend getting an organized dayhike tour package when you plan to visit Mt. Kapigpiglatan for ease and convenience. The inclusion in the dayhike tour package is a roundtrip private van transfer from Manila to Zambales, a mountain guide fee, and a registration fee. On the other hand, the exclusions are personal food and shower fees.
- Stay on the trail and do not damage any flora or fauna that you may encounter.
- Respect the local culture and do not disturb the environment by shouting or playing loud music.
- Littering, vandalism, and kindling of wood for cooking are strictly not allowed.
- For any inquiries or concerns, please message the official Facebook page of San Narciso, Zambales Municipal Tourism.
- Last but not least, hike at your own risk and always observe the leave-no-trace policy.
Predominantly, we never know what will happen each day. So each day of our life will be a surprise of what things will bring us. May it be happy or sad, exciting or boring, scary or fearless, forgettable or memorable. One thing I want to wish for God is for you to be safe, be in good health always, give you courage and love, and give you the comfort you deserve. All in all, I hope that this hiking blog has been gratifying to you. Until next time.

Went for a trip which is just a few hours away from Manila to celebrate. Amazed on how well maintained the property and on how the associates welcome and interact to guests and visitors. Our accommodation was satisfactory, the restaurant serves good food with generous serving and the beach was great whether you wish to surf, paddle board or kayak etc. Everything was great but they missed on something, we all know checkout time is at 12NN and we’re already preparing to pack and take a shower, I just can’t understand how they missed and give less importance to water supply for their toilets and shower for the use of their guests. This is a basic task and a big shortcoming for the operations team and management, this threw the whole experience from a 10 to nothing. Routine task, basic necessity, just missed out. Of all the guests that I was at that very same time, at the common shower area, complaining with the same sentiment, I am just that one person who voiced out. I was just darn disappointed on how one thing changed my stay.
Yuck! What's up with the "1 plate per person" at your breakfast buffet. I was asked to bring my used plate for second serving. No class at all! They won't give you another plate for salads. I was told to use a small plate for cups even when I asked for a mid-size plate.
The beach sand is gray but you'll get the best when you tried the level of the wave. It was just an exact level, not too fast, too deep or slow. You will definitely enjoy your time riding your board! Well, I actually enjoyed it bcoz of my first date with my partner, so better bring your date! And enjoy camping & surfing with a cozy night bonding with their band along seashore & the bonefire.

Hello hungrydailyph! We truly appreciate your effort in sharing your experience at Crystal Beach. It's also managing the expectations of our future guests. Your review is commendable, honest and trustworthy and we couldn't be more thankful. Sincerely, Crystal Beach Resort Management
Went here to unwind with my coworkers. Accommodation was great, we booked Josiah 1 and 2 as there were 7 of us. The resort was huge, great for events and there are a lot of instagram worthy spots for the ig-conscious travellers. Accommodations were reasonably priced with breakfast included in the price. They also offer glamping which is great. Restaurant serves meals and serving is good for 2 for most dishes. They also serve bundles for larger groups. I would recommend this for groups of friends or families with kids older than 6 years old. The beach is good for surfing, if you are bringing kids you have to watch them while they are swimming as the sand is very uneven and we don’t want accidents.
Hello ShezzzoWicked! Your review and recommendation is highly appreciated. We do hope that you had a wonderful time and we're looking forward to have you once again at Crystal Beach Resort. Sincerely, Crystal Beach Resort Management
