Wuxi Travel Guide 2024

Wuxi , a shining peal of Taihu Lake, is located at the south of Jiangsu Province, linking with the Yangtze River in the north and Taihu Lake in the south. Moreover, it is approximately half way between the cities of Shanghai (metropolis with west-meets-east sites) and Nanjing (capital of Jiangsu Province), the former is about 130 kilometers to the southeast and the latter is about 200 kilometers to the northwest. Along with the nearby city - Suzhou (50 km away), Wuxi is a popular destination for travelers to travel with Shanghai and nearby destinations linked by high speed train with less than 1 hour’s journey.

Wuxi is one of the birthplaces of Jiangnan culture which can be traced back to 3000 years ago in the late Shang Dynasty (1600~1046 BC). Taibo, the eldest son of emperor Zhoutai in the West Zhou Dynasty resigned sovereign authority to his third brother and came to Meili (today’s Mei Village in Wuxi). He introduced the inland culture to the south and created the Wu culture. Nowadays, Wuxi is a good choice to travel on its fertile land which is rich in “fish and rice” and explore its beautiful natural scenery and abundant culture.

Why Visit Wuxi?

  • Breathtaking Taihu Lake Scenery - Travelers who come to Wuxi should pay a visit to Taihu Lake and those who visit Taihu Lake must take a visit to Yuantouzhu. The super view of Taihu Lake lies Turtle Head Island. You can either enjoy a leisure walk along the shore of the lake, or take a traditional boat quietly sailing on the water to embrace the glittering lake under the blue sky.
  • Sacred Buddhist Land with 88-meter-tall bronze Shakyamuni Buddha - On the northern bank of Taihu Lake is a holy Buddhist site - Lingshan Grant Buddha which is the biggest bronze Buddha in the world. With a pilgrim soul, you can worship the grand Buddha, watch nine dragons bathing Shakyamuni, enjoy Ode to Auspice in the Brahma Palace and touch the largest Buddha’s hand for good luck and longevity.
  • Classical Gardens - Though not so famed as Suzhou gardens , the typical gardens in Wuxi are worth your exploration. Wandering through Plum Garden to appreciate flowering plum in the late winter to early spring, boating on the elegant water of Liyuan Garden to feel the retreating pleasure of Fan Li and Xi Shi, appreciating the gorgeous designs of Jichang Garden imitated by Summer Palace and Yuanming Yuan… you will absolutely lose yourself in the Chinese-painting-like scenery.

Antoine Maguin, the chief executive officer of Alvest, a global leader in aviation, visited Wuxi National Hi-Tech District, also known as Xinwu district, on April 9 along with his team.

During his meeting with government officials from Xinwu, Maguin affirmed Wuxi's significance as a vital manufacturing base for TLD, a member company of Alvest, in the Asia-Pacific region. He noted that the group's company in Wuxi has experienced steady growth since its establishment, partly driven by the region's advantageous supply chain.

As China and the Asia-Pacific region are crucial for global economic growth, TLD is confident in furthering its success in Xinwu district and plans to increase investment and develop green and low-carbon airport ground support equipment to meet the growing demands of markets, said Maguin.

Cui Rongguo, Party secretary of Xinwu, expressed gratitude for the district's long-standing partnership with French companies. He highlighted the zone's strategic focus on developing the aerospace industry, including sectors such as ground support, airborne equipment, and the low-altitude economy, and emphasized the immense potential for growth.

Cui said he hopes that the company will introduce more high-quality products and services to the region and accelerate the establishment of its regional and functional headquarters in Xinwu.

TLD Asia (Wuxi) Ltd, solely funded by TLD, was launched in Xinwu's Shuofang sub-district in 2008. The company mainly produces aircraft tow tractors, cargo lifting platforms, baggage tractors, and other ground support equipment. Its customers include airlines, airports, and more.

Japanese machinery manufacturer ckd vows to further cooperate with xinwu.

A delegation led by Katsuhito Okuoka, president and chief operating officer of Japan's CKD Corporation, meets with government officials of Xinwu district, Wuxi, Jiangsu. [Photo/WeChat account: xinwu_wx]

Katsuhito Okuoka, representative director, president and chief operating officer of Japan's CKD Corporation, led a delegation to visit Wuxi National Hi-Tech District, also known as Xinwu district, in Wuxi on April 16.

CKD is a leading enterprise in automatic machinery manufacturing and specializes in the development of pneumatic components. The company will further strengthen cooperation with Xinwu district and introduce more cutting-edge products, said Okuoka. He also commended the complete semiconductor industrial chain and broad development prospects of the industry in Xinwu.

Cui Rongguo, Party secretary of Xinwu, said that the district will continue to provide high-quality services and strong policy support for CKD's projects.

He further elaborated that in 2023, the entire district achieved a regional GDP of 251.57 billion yuan ($34.75 billion), a year-on-year increase of 6.1 percent. The district's intelligent manufacturing capabilities rank first among regions of the same administrative level in Jiangsu. The scale of its integrated circuit industry accounts for one-ninth of China's total, while the comprehensive strength of its new energy industry remains at the forefront in the city. Xinwu's lithium battery sector, in particular, has attracted many high-quality enterprises, projects, and top talents.

In 2003, CKD Corporation established CKD China, the company's largest production base overseas, in Xinwu. The China base has been committed to industrial automation and control as well as pharmaceutical packaging machinery.
