I took part in an amazing 8day bike trek across this wonderful country called Mongolia.

What can I say, but absolutely the most amazing trip I have ever taken part in. From the wonderful guides from Mongolia Trekking to the absolutely fantastic scenery. The wonderful guides made sure that everyone's needs were looked after, from dietary requirements to having our bikes serviced and cleaned every evening. Nothing was to much trouble. Every day was an adventure and not knowing a great deal about Mongolia it was wonderful to sit and listen to the guides tell their stories. Mongolian people are very proud and loved telling us about their history. I came away from this wonderful holiday with fantastic memories that will stay with me for ever.

N.Mongolia MBT + KK Naadam with Khustai National Park by Mongolia Trekking 28/06/18 to 12/07/18 Mongolia... is known as the land of Blue Sky and is always synonymous with the ancient empire of Chinggis Khaan and wild horses. So when I told a group of friends that I would like to cycle in Mongolia, most of my friends agreed that Mongolia would be somewhat different from any other country in Asia.  A romantic notion of the life of nomadic people moving their 'ger' from one area to another, and to be able to witness wild horses, yaks, sheep, goats in the wilderness would be a magnificent and long lasting memorable experience. So, our adventure began with contacting Bat from Mongolia Trekking (recommended by Mr Van from Backroads Vietnam) early last year. After a long exchange of emails with Bat, we finally arrived at an itinerary to suit our needs. I must say, Bat had so much patience in trying to come up with the right itinerary for us because we also wanted to be there for the 2018 Naadam Festival.  Tim... our guide was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived at Chinggis Khaan International Airport and took us to Bayangol Hotel. He was the guide that stayed with us from the time we arrived on June 28 until we left Mongolia on July 12. He was a very sweet and knowledgeable person who is very proud of his home country. After the introduction of Ulaanbaatar or Ulan Bator (capital city of Mongolia) we visited monasteries and museums on our first and second day. We met Bat in the evening of our first night for dinner who warmly welcomed our group and explained comprehensively what we expected during our 8D cycling in the wilderness. He readily answered any questions we were not sure about. The night went smoothly and everyone was happy to start our adventure the following day. First we travelled from Ulaanbaatar to Erdenet in the north with the coal fueled Soviet era train. The train was comfortable for our overnight journey. There were four single bunks to a cabin and there was sufficient space for our overnight bags.  When we arrived at Erdenet, Bat and his team of three drivers, two cooks, 2 guides and a mechanic were already there waiting for us. We were ushered to the buses and our Mongolia cycle adventure began... Words can not describe the beauty of Mongolia's wilderness. It was so green, pristine, and blue sky most of the time we cycled.  Horses, cows, sheep, goats, yaks were so peacefully and contentedly munching green grass in beautiful pastures while the weather was right for them before winter set in. In some areas the scenery changed as if we were somewhere else because of green tall pine trees and log cabins instead of 'ger'. It was just so incredible. We were so spoiled by Bat's team i.e. cooks. They prepared a variety of healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners for us. They set up tables for us to have our lunch in the best wilderness ... clean open air ... wild flowers covered the ground... it was the best experience I've ever had.  The cycling was a bit of a challenge for me... and also for some of our friends but we didn't mind that because we had more time to enjoy the scenery around us. On behalf of our group of 11 from Western Australia, I would like to thank Bat and his team who excelled in all areas, and exceeded our expectations.  Thank you Bat, Tim, Nara, Munhk, Boga, and others for providing us with everything we needed during our tour especially in providing for our friends who are vegan, vegetarian, celiacs. You are just amazing. Our visit to your country is the most memorable one for me thanks to your professionalism, your friendliness and organisational skills, Bat. I have no hesitation in recommending Mongolia Trekking to those who wish to visit Mongolia by Trekking, Horse Riding, Cycling, etc.  Please visit Mongolia Trekking website if you want to see the Magnificent Mongolia Pristine Wilderness. Thank you again Bat for the most memorable cycling tour with you and your team. I will surely cherish the experience for a long time to come. Cheers Swie Lan Wiggins Western Australia

I was recently on business trip to Ulaanbaatar and had a weekend to explore the outlying countryside around the city. Through a friend I contacted Mongolia Trekking and after a discussion with Batbayar, he suggested a couple of day trips. One to the Hustain National park followed by the Baga Khentiy Mountain Bike Day tour. My guide for the day to the national park was Otgo, who was very knowledgeable and her English was very good. We traveled to the visitors centre where learnt about the wild life, flora and fauna, then traveled into the heart of the National park. We decided to go for a hike for around an hour, off the trail roads, where we caught glimpses of the wild Prezewalski horses, red deer, marmot, golden eagles. It was a hot day so lots of water and sturdy shoes were a must. You may need a good camera with some kind of telescopic lens to shoot great pictures of the wildlife. The following day I headed off for a mountain bike ride with my guide Nara. As the tour notes stated we started off at the Chinggis Khan statue and headed into the valleys. Within 8km we were in remote areas surrounded only by sheep, goats, yaks cattle, the odd herdsman, and passing by a few nomadic gers. We had a picnic lunch near a small spring where young cattle were taking a drink, before setting off on a more gentle ride through the valley floor. The guides carried plenty of water for us which was lucky as on a 48km ride we needed some hydration. The organisation was excellent I was picked up and dropped off at the hotel, the guides knowledgeable, mountain bike was good quality and the hospitality great. Would certainly use Batbayar and the company again.

We recently completed a 3-day tour with Mongolia Trekking. The experience was perfect from start to finish. I corresponded with Batbayar via email to book the tour and arrange payment. Emails were returned promptly and with excellent English. Batbayar suggested a tour based on our interests and also assisted with arranging pick-up from the bus station (for a small fee) as well as receipt of our onward train tickets - this flexibility was much appreciated. Our guide, Byamba, spoke English as if it were his native language and patiently answered all of our questions, and explained Mongolian history to us. He was also a really cool guy! We drove vast distances over the 3 days, visiting temples, the former Uighur capital, Kharkhorin, the Prezewalski horses at Khustai National Park and many other sights. The highlight was the authentic stay (for 2 nights) with a real Mongolian nomadic family. Driving through the vast wilderness to get to the family added to the authenticity of the experience. During the entire tour, we were driven in a clean and spacious 4x4 SUV. As for the stay with nomadic family, we were the only guests staying with the family at the time, and were able to observe their daily life, including the herding of hundreds of sheep, goats, etc. The ger/yurts were very comfortable, with clean and warm bedding (it got very cold at night!) and a bedside lamp. The toilets were clean and functional. Although the family did not speak English, our guide did a fantastic job of bridging the gap. The food was plentiful and tasty. Overall, Mongolia Trekking (including Batbayar and Mr. Uugaa) and our guide (Byamba) as well as our nomadic family hosts went out of their way to make our stay in Mongolia a very enjoyable one. I picked this company based on a lot of research and Tripadvisor reviews. This tour, as organised by Mongolia Trekking, far surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend this company.

I called Mongolia Trekking looking for a translator to help me with a project. Batbayar was extremely helpful in matching me a with a translator. I was given several different options for translators and was matched with a great person! Very happy with the help I got here.

Our family had an amazing trip to Mongolia over a 4 day period....we wish it had been longer. For the children, it was an experience they will never have again. Sighting Przewalski horses, sleeping in Ger's, driving over gorgeous countryside, being hosted by a Mongolian family, getting involved in their daily routines, herding livestock, patting newborn calves eating traditional food and lots more....but best of all was being able to ride on wild Mongolian horses...with a little help from the host family!!! The team at Mongolia Trekking really looked after us from the time of booking the tour, right through to delivering us to the airport for our departure home. The guide and driver were so keen to make sure the children had the most wonderful experience...which in turn meant the adults did as well. Thank you to all the team.

Mongolia cycling tour map

  • Duration: 6 nights/7 days
  • Tour grade: Soft
  • Group size: 1 to 15 PAX
  • Available: 10 May to 1 October

Suitable for active and adventurous cultural and natural explorers. On Cycling in the Gobi Desert and Central Mongolia Tour, you will discover scenic places of the Gobi Desert and central Mongolia, combining a vehicle and bicycle. To take this tour, it doesn't matter if you are an experienced adventure cyclist or an amateur. But cycling on rough roads requires some ability. Cycling as long as 45 km to 50 km is available for experienced and adventure cyclists, while amateurs can cycle at their own pace and liking. Besides cycling, you will experience the nomad life while staying with them for 2 days, travel in the Orkhon River World Cultural Heritage Valley, ride horses and camels, explore ancient monasteries, and enjoy the beauty of the mountain steppes and the Gobi Desert landscapes.

Day 1: Start the adventure to Elsentasarkhai

Meet with your guide and driver and start the tour heading to Elsentasarkhai, a scenic area representing the Gobi desert, mountain steppes, and steppes. First, you will drive out of the city. Next, bicycle about 20-30 km or longer on rough roads. It is the first day you feel the wideness and emptiness of Mongolia. Load the bikes on the vehicles when having enough biking. Arrive at Elsetasarkhai and visit a nomad family. Learn first-hand about nomadic life.

Today, in the vast valley of the Orkhon River, the awe-inspiring ancient monastery Erdenezuu coexists with Kharkhorin town. See some valuable religious artifacts in the monastery museum, view its stunning architecture, and visit the Kharakhorum Museum display remnants of the ancient city.

The cycling takes place at an average altitude of 1450 to 1550 m above sea level.

With nomads, you will try traditional Mongolian meals . There will be more meat in traditional Mongolian meals. Ger camps serve European and Mongolian meals. Meat is the main ingredient for meals and is served for lunch and dinner, along with vegetables, salads, and soups. A typical ger camp meals ; breakfast is tea or coffee, bread, jam, butter, eggs, and sausage. There are some cookies, cheese, cereals, pancakes, and more at some ger camps for breakfast. An English-speaking biking guide will serve you. Our guides are all friendly, flexible, and helpful. During horse and camel riding, local equestrians will help you.

Depending on the group size, a Korean vehicle Hyundai Starex, a Japanese vehicle Toyota Hiace, a Russian van UAZ 452, or a trailer jeep will serve for the tour. The bikes are good quality and condition Trek bikes, equipped with water bottle holders and rear racks. We will put all necessary spare parts and maintenance tools in the support vehicle. Both the guide and drivers are good mechanics and do the required services.

10 May and 30 September is the most suitable time to travel to the Gobi Desert. During this period, the weather will be warm and enjoyable. The beginning of October is another no-crowd good time, but the weather is crisp in the morning and evening. The Gobi Desert is the warmest region in Mongolia. The annual temperature is usually 5°C to 10°C higher than in the other parts of Mongolia. The temperature drops by 10°C to 20°C in the evening and at night. A chill wind is occasional in May, September, and October. Average monthly temperatures are +20°C, highest +30°C daytime at the end of May, June, late August, and September. The night temperature may drop to +8°C. July is the hottest, as well as a humid month. The average day temperature of July is +28°C, the hottest is +38°C, and the night temperature could drop to +12°C. Although, some nights could be sultriness. The temperature dramatically falls if it rains. For your pre-departure preparation, you may check the biking tour packing list .

Welcome To Tours IN MONGOLIA

Mongolian tours company.

Mongolia is a biker’s dream. To begin with, only 10% of the country is paved. To add to that, it is one of the least heavily populated countries on the planet. To add to the tale, the land is too, which means you can ride and camp pretty much anywhere you want.

The majority of our route, with the exception of going through some reasonably difficult passes, is made up of rolling, grassy terrain.

mongolia-mountain-bike-059

The majority of our days will be split into two parts: driving and cycling. Given Mongolia’s vast territory and weak infrastructure, getting from one place to another is a major undertaking. In addition to cycling, we ensure that our travelers see, visit, taste, experience, and share as much as possible in order for them to get the most out of Mongolia.

Our itinerary has been carefully planned to allow you to see beautiful diverse landscapes and scenes, as well as the different lifestyles of Mongolian people, including nomads and locals in small villages.

We’ll be traversing a variety of terrain, including high mountain passes, river crossings, and so on…

Don’t be scared off, though. We’ll have a lot of support. Members of the team will ride ahead of the cyclists to ensure that the first arrivals have all they need and are well cared for.

Biking trip

Bike trekking on the Mongolian tracks is an excellent way to discover the natural wonders of Mongolia and to explore the most remote parts of the country. The bike is more than a mean of transport, because it often becomes an excuse to exchange with the nomad people that you'll inevitably meet during your trek. They're always curious when they see you pedaling in the steppes and mountains of their country.

The very nature of biking, the quiet pace, allow you to contemplate all the beauties of the country and to camp nearby the nomads' camps with whom you can share moments of complicity.

For the mountain bike lovers, please note that there are very few single tracks in Mongolia. You will principally bike on tracks that can be rough, muddy and stony. Well might Mongolia is known to be a flat country, soon you will notice that this is not true. You will bike on long false flats, passes and some more technical slopes.

During your tour, you can go biking for one or two days, on small distances from 30 to 40 kilometres (18,64 - 24,86 miles). These bike treks are accessible to anyone having a normal physical condition.

For the bikers who want a wholly mountain bike tour, the distances can reach 65 kilometres (40,39 miles) per day. A professional biking guide will manage the tour and the logistics vehicle will follow you.

  • JuliaHubbel 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Zavkhan knows their stuff. HIghly recommended. Jen Buttery, who is the operations manager (and my guide on my first trip with them to Kazakhstan in 2017) planned and organized a full month in Mongolia as a private custom trip. This entailed a lengthy drive through the Gobi where we camped on the open steppes, climbed sand dunes and visited camel families. She arranged for me to interview a number of fascinating women who are running their own businesses (I'm a journalist) and then, I flew west. I stayed with two different families, one in a ger where I was able to herd sheep and goats as well as immerse myself in family life. Then to a huntress' farm, where I spent days doing chores and playing with their baby camel Gogo. We topped off the trip with two days at the Eagle Festival. I was even able to fit in a few more camel rides and a horse ride. There were some bumps along the way which is predictable for such a long trip, but I came home with priceless memories as well as many new friends. It would be hard to express the value of the experience of living in a ger, waking up to a camel right outside your door, a white guard dog that leaps in circles in joy when you come out into the wind, and being able to go eye-to-eye with a golden eagle who views you as sushi. • Stella4006 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Life-changing Thanks to Unicorn Trails in conjunction with Zavkhan Treking for organising the absolute time of my life in Kazakhstan. I honestly was not prepared for just how beautiful the country was, how honest and genuine the people were and how reluctant I now am to face being home. I feel more culture shock leaving Kazakhstan, than I did arriving. Nothing can prepare you for the magic that Kazakhstan offers. Driven 6 or so hours to the north eastern border to the Altai Mountain region, we spent the next 17 days riding through meadows of head-high flowers on warm summer days, climbing up steep and rocky mountain paths to the snow line, down through pine forests, across grassy steppe and through valleys and rivers. Every day was different and offers equally majestic and awe-inspiring views. Having done a trek of this nature in Mongolia (with another outfit) before, I knew what to expect in terms of variability of weather, changes to route and activities, language barriers, minimal bathing opportunities etc and nothing in general phased me. In fact, its those aspects that drive me to select expeditions like this. For that reason I don't actually have much to add to improve the trip, except that for those people who might find it challenging, it would be good to forewarn them as much as possible in the lead-up. I absolutely cannot fault our guide and translator, Seku in rising to meet our groups demands and for his professionalism and care in looking after us during the trek. He found a balance between addressing requests and keeping the group safe. He made alternate plans to meet different needs of riders and he found ways to compromise between adventure and safety. He is a very humble, honest and genuine man and is an asset to the company. I honestly believe I came home from Kazakhstan a different person. The bonds I formed with my fellow trekkers and the memories I have of 17 days in one of the most beautiful countries on earth, will stay with me for life. Read more Written August 16, 2019

You won’t regret it. Do realize it’s not luxury, and you may not bath for a week, if not more, but it’s all part of the adventure and you couldn’t find a better group to do it with.
