I still cannot believe my experience with this outfit! I tried to get some information about a trip I had booked up - and paid for All I wanted to know was what time the trip was set to leave -because one place on their site stated it leaving at 9:45, and in another place it was set for 8:15 -- both departure places and date the same. I had tried on three separate occasions to reach someone by phone: a Friday(once), the following Monday (twice). After receiving no reply to my calls, and knowing absolutely nothing about the reputation of this company, I began to feel something was not right., so decided to visit their office - which turned out to be merely a post office box drop. This latter fact, while not a problem by itself, but coupled with the non-response to my calls, made me very uneasy. I returned home and tried once more to reach someone by phone. On the second try, the phone was answered . I started to explain that I had left numerous messages, but had received no response, so decided to visit the address given on their site. With that, this person immediately lost it, screaming at me for going to their "place of business". He would not let me explain why I was concerned about getting no call-back, but continued to rant across my voice, even though I shouted over his voice to try to get him to just listen to me. He just kept screaming about why had I visited their premises (mail box ). He went on and on (and on) without letting me say one word -- and by the way, I never did get the chance to ask for the information I had originally called about -- did the trip leave at 9:45 or at 8:15 ? I managed to understand over his bullying temper tantrum that he was inordinately fixated on the fact that I had visited the premises --WHY??? He carried on like this for several minutes before he hung up the phone. So, while I can say nothing about the quality of their actual trips, (because I never got the chance to sample them), if the experience I had in simply trying to talk to them, I strongly recommend that you do not contact them by phone or, God forbid, admit that you visited their premises (mail drop). If the same "prima donna" male answers you, hang up just as fast as you can :-)

Westchester business making seniors upper class, the upper class, a family-owned business in scarsdale, offers trips and activities for senior citizens in westchester..

One Scarsdale business is making sure the senior citizens of Westchester are receiving the Upper Class treatment.

The Upper Class , a 10-year-old, family-owned and operated company, is keeping seniors busy throughout Westchester. The company, founded by the Lawer family, offers bus tours, overnight trips, day trips and activities for seniors of all ages.

With about 200 trips in the past year, the Upper Class has served thousands of seniors over the past decade, according to Brooke Lawer, marketing director of The Upper Class.

Catering to the 55-plus crowd, the trips and tours include a visit to West Point Military Academy, outings to Broadway shows, daycations around New York and multi-day trips, such as Cape Cod, Maine, Niagra Falls and Nashville.

"That’s what we want, we want them out there," Lawer said. "Some go on 30 trips a year with us." 

The Upper Class helps seniors stay busy by providing a "one-stop shopping" experience.

"People want to do these things but it can be overwhelming for them," the New Rochelle resident said. "We do all the planning and it takes all of that hassle and anxiety out of somebody’s planning process…(there are) no worries about picking up tickets, parking or paying the tolls or dinner reservations."

The family company, inspired by Lawer's grandmother Florence Lawer, includes her father, Paul Lawer, president; her brother-in-law Andy Erbelding, operations director; and her sister, Debbie Erbelding, who works in customer service.

Grandmother Lawer helped with the initial ideas in the early years, before she passed away two years ago, Brooke Lawer said.

"Every trip we design we measure against what we learned from my grandmother," the marketing director said. "Are there too many stairs? Are acoustics good? We make (sure the trip) is custom to this age group. They want to enjoy it, so design trips to meet those requirements."

Inspired By Our Grandmother

When our grandmother, an active senior, moved to live closer to her grandchildren, she was excited to meet people and enjoy events with new friends close to her age, but found that recreational and social activities were difficult to find.

At the dinner table one night, the family rallied together behind our grandmother's vision and launched The Upper Class, creating a new way for older adults in the area to have fun with friends while meeting new ones.

Her vision inspires our unique tours designed to provide unparalleled customer service, affordable prices and a comfortable, friendly atmosphere for our grandmother and others like her.

Spanning three generations, The Upper Class began in 2002 and now includes The Upper Class and Green Mountain Tours. Over the years, we have traveled on thousands of trips while hosting thousands of guests on our premium bus tours departing from Westchester and Bergen. We are so grateful that so many of our guests travel with us on several trips each season and more new friends join us every year. Thank you!

I did a North Fork Wine Tour weekend package for my bachelorette weekend in May 2010. It couldn't have been more fun! I can't stress enough how easy they are to work with. All we had to do was sign up and George, our guide, made all the other arrangements for us - hotel (a cute B&B), transportation (a shuttle just for our group), meals (great local fare), and of course touring the amazing Hamptons vineyards! “Great day for family and friends!”

I planned a bachelorette party for my friend in April and decided to go with North Fork Wine Tours so all of us (including the bridesmaids) could relax and enjoy the day and not have to worry about the little details of transportation, timing, what route to take, contacting the wineries, etc. George took care of everything. 17 of us got picked up right outside my friend's apartment and proceeded to the 1st winery where we were met by Michael who served as our "go to guy" the whole day. We did a wine tasting there and had a delicious lunch in the beautiful backdrop of the vineyards. Michael took care of everything from that point on as far as where our next stop was, coordinating the tastings, getting us back on the bus, etc. And timing wasn't an issue because we stayed as little or as long as we wanted at each one. If you are looking for a wine tasting event where you can have your meals and all the logistics planned for you, this is the way to go. It was a great day without any stress and a good time was had by all!

Travel Teams

WSSL and the New York Red Bulls have partnered to provide a competitive Travel and Tournament Program for soccer players U8 through U19 (high school). Our goal is to develop a child's soccer skills so that he or she will be able to play the game well and have fun in the process. We start by focusing on individual soccer technique and skills, then as the child gets older we expand to field awareness, strategy and tactics. We consider winning to be a byproduct of a successful development program, not the end goal in and of itself.

The Travel Program is geared for stronger players who are interested in improving their skills through competitive play against teams from other clubs. We generally field Travel teams and Tournament teams in each age group starting in U8 through U19, boys and girls. In some age groups, we field higher level Premier teams. The tryout process is the same for Premier and non-premier Travel teams and for Tournament teams. Whether we have a Premier team in a particular age group depends on the team's readiness and commitment to play at the higher level.

Most of our Travel teams play in the Westchester Youth Soccer League, with games in lower Westchester county. Our Premier and some of our high school teams play with NY Club.

The Commitment

Travel is a year-long commitment. Tryouts are held in the Spring for teams in Fall and Spring of the following year. Generally, the Fall season runs from Labor Day - Thanksgiving and the Spring season from April - June.  

Travel players are expected to attend ALL practices and games.  WYSL Travel teams practice twice per week during the week after school. Premier teams practice three times per week, twice during the week after school and once on the weekends on the opposite of their game day.  WYSL Travel teams play games on Sundays, while NY Club teams may have games on either Saturday or Sunday.

We give parents our practice schedules at the time of tryouts. Please do not accept a place on one of our Travel teams if your child is unable to commit to the practice schedule for that team.

Game schedules are set by WYSL or NY Club, depending on the team, and we make those available to parents as soon as they are available to us.

Our Travel teams are coached by professional Red Bulls trainers who are themselves educated in the Red Bulls Program and who have backgrounds in playing and coaching soccer. In addition, trained parent coaches work with the Red Bulls trainers on each team. All Red Bulls trainers and parent coaches have certifications in education programs by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the U.S. Soccer Federation.  Training sessions follow a detailed plan and curriculum designed to improve individual and team skills. Teams Seeded at Their "Right" Level

WSSL Red Bulls Travel Teams play in the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL) against teams from New York City and various towns in Westchester County. WYSL has several divisions per age group. It is the goal of WSSL to ensure that each team is seeded in a division where they face competition against whom they are evenly matched. WSSL believes that competition is an extension of training and learning the game of soccer. It is fun and it is also a learning tool. The best matches are the ones where the kids are playing their hardest and are having opportunities to attack and defend during the same match. While beating an opponent by a margin of several can be very exciting, we prefer matches where a 1-0 win was the result of a great battle of skill on the field. 

Our Premier and some of our high school teams play with NY Club. Whether we have a premier team in a particular age group depends on a particular team's readiness and commitment to play at the higher level.

High School Program

The WSSL High School Travel Program is both a continuation of the travel program and also the chance to compete at a higher level, with mixed age teams and a year-long commitment. We do anticipate that many of our soccer players will join their high school scholastic soccer teams as well, and we support that decision by implementing a flexible practice attendance policy during the fall. However, consistent with the WSSL Travel Team commitment policy in general, we epect our high school players to commit for the fall, winter and spring seasons.

We expect a high level of commitment, maturity, and focus from our high school players. In return, you will receive excellent training and an opportunity to play at a high level and grow as a player. Technique and tactics are the central focus, and we ask that players take ownership over their development by self-assessing and communicating directly with trainers.

The high school travel division is co-led by Pedro Rafael and Katie Miller, both long-time coaches and parents of WSSL soccer.

Fees/Refund Policy

The fees for WSSL Travel Teams in 2024-25 are:

Standard Travel  - $2150 per year - includes mandatory fall and spring training; winter training optional and not included (additional fees apply) Premier Travel  - $2750 per year - includes mandatory fall, winter and spring training; league fees; and NY League Cup fees Girls HS Travel  - $2800 per year - includes mandatory fall, winter and spring training (and buses); league fees; and NY League Cup fees

Boys HS Travel  - $3000 per year - includes mandatory fall, winter and spring training (and buses); league fees; and NY League Cup fees

Fees for uniforms (approx. $135) are additional for all Travel teams. 

Fees for one tournament in the fall (Indigenous People's/Columbus Day weekend) and one in the spring (Memorial Day weekend) are included for all Travel teams. 

Fees for optional winter training are expected to be approx. $425 per player. Gym contracts will be finalized and final costs for winter training will be emailed in the fall.
