Take a Virtual Tour of Network Aviation’s B747-400F Aircraft
We identified an exciting opportunity in the industry to give our customers and clients an in-depth look at how a Network Airline Management Boeing 747 freighter aircraft looks from the inside. Take a virtual tour of a B747-400F aircraft now!
In partnership with Mike Rivett from Fotomotion, an incredibly detailed 360° internal scan of the aircraft was captured with highly specialist cameras which allows us to take a view like very few have seen before!
This interactive virtual tour includes a full-length view of the main deck, on one of our B747F aircraft, and clearly highlights the different cargo positions such as A1, Q6 and all the Q7 positions as well as the main cargo door and roller bed facility. This allows those who haven’t stepped foot inside a freighter aircraft an intricate look at how and where cargo is loaded and positioned on our aircraft.
Various time-lapse videos demonstrate how precise and calculated it is to load large and heavy pieces of cargo on board. The B747-400F Aircraft virtual tour also includes a look at the upper deck including an expansive view of the flight deck as well as the crew rest area.

Exhibition: The 747 Experience
Ship 6301 moved to the Delta Flight Museum on April 30, 2016. After almost a year of work, this famous 747-400 opened as an exhibition on March 28, 2017. Inside, visitors are able to sit in aircraft seats, check out the upper deck, walk out on a wing, examine what goes on behind the walls of an aircraft, and learn all about the history of the 747 and its role in Delta's history. The plane is open 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on days the Museum is open and is included with the cost of Museum admission.
Ship 630 1 was the first 747-400 built by the Boeing Aircraft Company. It was registered by Boeing as N401PW, and first flew on April 29, 1988. It was used by Pratt & Whitney for engine testing prior to entry into service with Northwest Airlines.
Boeing changed the registration to N661US, and delivered Ship 6301 to Northwest Airlines in December 8, 1989. Ship 6301 joined the Delta fleet when Northwest merged with Delta in 2008.
After logging more than 61 million miles, Ship 6301 flew its final flight on September 9, 2015: Flight 836, from Honolulu to Atlanta.

This tour of the 747 Experience was created for Delta's BIG THANK YOU to their employees in April 2017. It gives a great idea of what to expect when you visit the 747 Experience!
The 747: Revolution in Aviation
Known as the “Queen of the Skies,” the Boeing 747 is one of the most popular and recognizable aircraft in the world today. When the first 747 made its first commercial flight 45 years ago, critics thought the aircraft would soon become obsolete as designers believed that supersonic aircraft would be taking over the skies. However, the four-engine jumbo jet revolutionized the industry with its exceptional long-haul flight capability and sheer size, nearly three times larger than the largest jet flying at the time.
The improved 747-400 featured a new glass cockpit, tail fuel tanks, advanced engines and a new interior.
747-400 model is called a “high-tech” jumbo to distinguish its advanced features from its predecessor, the “classic jumbo” of the -100 to -300 series. 747-400s have been flown from the U.S. to numerous long-haul destinations including Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Honolulu, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo, and Manila during the past 26 years.

3d Boeing 747 Prototype
The Boeing 747 is an American commercial jet airliner and cargo aircraft commonly referred to as “Jumbo Jet.” This prototype 747 was first flown on February 9, 1969, and currently sits in the Museum of Flight in Seattle for display today. The growing worldwide demand for air travel in the 1960s prompted the creation of the 747, which seats up to 374 passengers, features a height of over six stories, and has a takeoff weight of over 300 tons.

Boeing’s 747-8 Intercontinental: A Virtual Tour and Review
NEW LUFTHANSA BUSINESS-CLASS CABIN AND SEATS
Lufthansa business class, upper deck, 747-8
Upstairs on the 747-8 there are 32 additional business-class seats in a business-only cabin, arranged in a 2-2 configuration. What awaits passengers on the upper deck is a very different vibe and the ambience of a private jet. Window passengers have private storage bins on the side, large enough for a smaller roll aboard, and the overhead bins are spacious, if not a drop low.
Lufthansa chose to unveil its new fully lie-flat seating on both the 747-8 as well as on a new Airbus A330-300 that it took delivery of in May. The new seats look very modern and appear to be less cushy than the older business-class seats, but looks can be deceiving. They were designed with better and strategically-placed cushioning to provide excellent support when seated upright, reclining, or lying down. My tests in several flights bear this out.
Lufthansa business class, main deck, 747-8
Lufthansa had two goals in creating the new seats: 1.) to sit or lie in the direction of travel, unlike some airlines’ lie-flat seats, where some seats are reversed, and 2.) to have greater privacy. With the press of the bed button, the seat converts into a fully lie-flat, horizontal bed with a length of 1.98 m (6’6”), roughly the same as the older business-class seats. The armrest can be lowered as well, making the seat a bit wider.
Lufthansa installed the seats in a V-like configuration. Each seat in the pair is angled towards the other in the shape of a “V,” joined together by a somewhat V-shaped table.
The new seats are 19.7” wide. Seat pitch is 64”. By comparison, the older PrivateBed business-class seats, which are still in the A380, are only 19.5” wide and are not true lie-flat seats, reclining only to 165°. They have a seat pitch which ranges from 57 to 60”.
New Lufthansa business-class seat in bed position
Each seat has a 15.4” LCD video display that can be angled towards the passenger. Under the monitor is a magazine holder. Underneath that, a small cabinet hides a water bottle (cleverly placed in a sling) and an individual amenity kit.
The only problem with the seats is with the footwells. The V-shaped layout means that both passengers’ feet are at the tip of the V, separated by a small divider.
If only one passenger is in bed mode, there is really no problem, as is the case if both passengers are tall enough so that their feet both end up in the footwell. The problem I found is that shorter passengers’ feet simply don’t make it into the footwell, and, as a result, can end up kicking the other passenger when moving.
This should be relatively easy for the very talented engineers at Lufthansa Technik to fix. Perhaps the divider can be changed to one that pulls out further so as to provide greater separation between the feet and legs of the two passengers in the V.

Operational woes continue to plague united airlines as three additional flights encounter issues after departure.
United Airlines’ operations are under great scrutiny these days and not for naught. Indeed, anytime a United Airlines aircraft sneezes, it tends to make the news. This past week, a United flight from San Francisco International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport was diverted to Denver on Thursday after the flight crew observed an issue with one of the Boeing 777’s engines. The following day, several people were hospitalized after a …

Take a peek inside the entire KLM fleet – without a ticket
As of late, you can take a virtual stroll through business class on a b787 without having to pay… how we’ve taken photographs of the interiors of the entire klm fleet using a 360° camera. vr specialist chris koomen, from klm’s digital studio shares more about this exciting initiative., a successful experiment.
“Our reason for taking 360° photos of the KLM aircraft – from Boeings to Airbuses – was actually very practical. We wanted to familiarise cleaners with an aircraft – the B787 – before its first flight to Minneapolis. They were set to come in the evening to clean the aircraft after its arrival, but had not yet seen this type from the inside. We knew that it would take a lot of extra time,” explains the VR man from KLM’s Digital Studio. “And we therefore came up with a solution. The members of the cleaning crew had an opportunity during the day of taking a virtual tour on an iPad, using a VR headset so they would be well prepared when arriving to clean the aircraft in the evening.”
“It was an experiment, but one that instantly booked success. Incredible! They finished cleaning fifteen minutes early and on top of that, they didn’t make a single mistake.” Cleaning crews are normally given a sheet of paper with a 2D drawing. Koomen: “Top and front views – that’s what they had to make do with. They’re going to be better prepared now.”
Cabin attendants and galleys
“The images are now regularly used for training purposes worldwide. And not only to the benefit of cleaning crews; the images are very handy for training new cabin attendants,” says Koomen. “New crew members can now become familiar with their workplace far quicker.”
The biggest group of users can be found at Catering Services. Koomen: “They use the images to train colleagues who set up the aircraft galleys.”
Find the Easter egg
In short, the virtual fleet is handy for all our (new) staff members. But let’s not overlook our passengers and aircraft enthusiasts. It’s fantastic to be able to explore the interior of each aircraft from nose to tail, examining places on board where passengers don’t usually get to go. Examples here include the cockpit, galleys and business class. Or simply stroll through the B747, the Queen of the Skies. Or our latest acquisition, the Dreamliner B787-10 . All of that, without taking a step on board.
Should you want to take a look inside our aircraft, we’ve hidden Easter eggs in some of them (something amusing for you to look for). See if you can find the meal in the B787-10, or take a virtual seat in our new business class seats inside the B787-10. You’ll be able to get to grips with all the new features like the adjustable privacy screen or the “Do not Disturb” button for even more privacy and individual space. And can you see that the B747 consists of two different parts. “It’s actually a combi carrier,” Koomen clarifies. “One part is entirely for passengers, while the other is for a 50:50 combination of cargo and passengers.”
Curious about the entire KLM fleet? Take a look inside ALL our aircraft:

Profile: Chris Koomen (39)
Chris Koomen joined KLM twelve years ago. He started off as a technician, but has been preoccupied with VR since 1996. He refers to it as a “runaway hobby” he turned into a business three years ago. The VR team now consists of eight people who focus continually on designing and creating VR training programmes, computer generated and 360° photos & videos alike.
