ADAS features like ABS are commonly found on most cars here in the country from small hatchbacks like the Honda Brio, to full-size SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Here are some of the common ADAS features found in PH-spec cars

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Anti-lock braking system, cruise control, lane departure warning.

Today’s vehicles are smarter and safer thanks to advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) that help make driving safer, easier, and more convenient.

What are some of the common ADAS features found in most of today's cars?

What ph-market cars offer abs.

But what exactly are ADAS technologies and which ones are commonly found on automobiles that ply the Philippine roads?

Arguably one of the most common ADAS function found on many of today’s vehicles is the anti-lock braking system (ABS).

The said ADAS feature ensures that the wheels do not lock up when braking. On that note, the wheels are allowed to maintain tractive contact with the road, which translates to better control over the vehicle in such driving scenarios.

To put it simply, ABS will prevent the wheels from locking when the driver steps on the brake pedal to prevent the car from skidding.

Honda Brio by Fort Manahan

Many cars now have ABS including small ones like the Honda Brio to large vehicles like the Toyota Land Cruiser .

Cruise control is also a common ADAS feature offered by many of today’s vehicles here in the Philippines.

This ADAS feature allows the driver to set the vehicle to run on a specific speed, letting them to take their foot off the accelerator pedal to ease foot-fatigue and stress when driving for long periods of time.

Nameplates that have such function include the Ford Territory’s Titanum trim .

Ford Territory

Some cars are now equipped with an evolved version of the said ADAS technology called adaptive cruise control. The difference it has from its predecessor is that adaptive cruise control allows the car to adjust its speed to maintain a safe distance from the car in front.

For example, if the car in front begins to slow, adaptive cruise control will also cause the vehicle to decelerate and maintain the selected distance.

Ford Territory’s Titanium X variant comes with adaptive cruise control.

Many of today’s vehicles now come with lane departure warning. The system works by recognizing if the vehicle is switching lanes without using the turn signal, then warns the driver by way of either visual, audible, or most commonly vibration warnings.

This is helpful — as long as the lanes can be read by the system — since it can help prevent collisions by catching the attention of the driver.

Nissan Almera by Fort Manahan

Automobiles that have a feature similar to lane departure warning include the Nissan Almera and the Hyundai Staria .

Cars with Adaptive Cruise Control: Everything You Need to Know

Cars with adaptive cruise control used to be considered a luxury only featured in state-of-the-art vehicles. Still, with technological advancements, adaptive cruise control is now a common feature found in many different car models.

Cruise control buttons on modern car and speed limitation

Cars with adaptive cruise control used to be considered a luxury only featured in state-of-the-art vehicles. Still, with technological advancements, adaptive cruise control is now a common feature found in many different car models. Autobytel says this means ACC is now accessible to everyone, and even if your current vehicle doesn't have ACC, you can always have it installed.

What Does Adaptive Cruise Control Do?

Adaptive cruise control uses advanced sensory technology to determine your car's speed in proximity to other vehicles or objects on or around the roadway. It applies moderate brakes and warning signals when a driver is getting to close to another car. Drivers can set the speed limit on the ACC so that they don't exceed the speed limit, but when the sensory technology detects traffic or other unsafe conditions, it reduces the driver's speed to adapt to them.

The Best Cars With Adaptive Cruise Control

1. 2020 bmw 3 series.

This brand new model offers the best combination of sensory technology . It uses cameras in addition to ultrasonic and radar sensors to pull data about the environment surrounding the vehicle. In addition to its sensory features, it also has a "stop-and-go" brake feature, great for commuters who spend extended amounts of time in stand-still traffic as it alleviates the stress on the driver's legs and feet. What's more, the camera sensor can pick up traffic signs such as speed limit signs and reduce or increase speed to match the recommended rate of speed.

2. 2020 Volvo S60

This new model by Volvo has a "Pilot Assist" feature, which makes driving safe and easy. What this feature does is it helps the driver maintain the proper speed with neighboring vehicles, and it also provides steering assistance along with automatic braking or accelerating for situations such as stop-and-go to free-flowing traffic. Another great aspect of this model is that it doesn't rely on a lead car to determine speed and spacing, so you can use it even when you aren't near another car.

3. 2020 Hyundai Sonata

This new Hyundai model has the same technological systems as other Hyundai models, called "SmartSense advanced driving assistance systems." The 2020 Hyundai Sonata includes SmartSense features such as five cameras, three radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to help with things such as advanced cruise control, stop-and-go feature, warning signals, and automatic braking or accelerating.

4. 2020 Nissan Altima

The 2020 Nissan Altima features Nissan's "ProPilot Assist" system, which uses advanced technology to help drivers practice safe driving. It allows drivers with automatic acceleration and braking for speed and distance control, while it also uses automatic steering to help them maintain lane control. These helpful features are made possible by its front-facing cameras, sensors, radar, and electronic control module.

5. 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

This new model provides drivers with an adaptive cruise control system, specifically designed for highway travel. Its cruise control features include cameras within the car and radar sensors on the front grille that can gauge your car's proximity and speed when compared to other vehicles around you. Similarly, these sensors help determine the rate of speed of the vehicle in front of you and automatically decrease your speed if the vehicle in front of you slows down.

The Cheapest Cars With Adaptive Cruise Control

According to U.S.News, here are some examples of the cheapest cars you can buy that still have adaptive cruise control features:

1. 2019 Kia Soul

You can get Kia's "smart cruise control" feature as part of their "Primo Package." This add-on is around $4,500 in addition to the original selling-price. You can save energy with its automatic braking system, and also keep a safe following distance thanks to its forward-collision warning feature. In addition to these safety features, the Kia Soul also provides drivers with a heated steering wheel, and in-depth seat adjustments to meet more complex needs for your body type.

2. 2018 Mazda 3

The 2018 Mazda 3 provides drivers with an adaptive cruise control system that detects rear-cross traffic and blind-spot monitoring, great for making safe lane changes. It also offers a "premium equipment package" for just $1,600 in addition to the original selling price. This package gives your vehicle advanced safety features and other add-ons such as a heated steering wheel and a built-in navigation system.

3. 2018 Hyundai Sonata

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata offers buyers the "technology package" for just $1,000. Included in this package are adaptive cruise control to help drivers maintain a safe following distance and adequate speed. This model also comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

4. 2018 Toyota Rav4

This 2018 Toyota Rav4 SUV includes an adaptive cruise control system for a fee that increases the original selling price to just above $25,000. When you turn your ACC feature on, it uses its radar sensors to administer collision warnings, automatic braking, and acceleration to make sure that your vehicle moves at a safe pace and maintains an appropriate following distance from other vehicles on the roadway at all times.

The 2018 Toyota Rav4's adaptive cruise control system is categorized as "standard equipment" in Toyota's "Safety Sense P suite of technology," Making it a high-tech safety vehicle for a reasonable price point.

5. 2018 Honda Accord

The 2018 Honda Accord features a state-of-the-art adaptive cruise control system called the "Honda Sensing System." This system offers not only adaptive cruise control but also several other useful safety features, including automatic braking for collision prevention and traffic sign recognition.

These features are powered by camera sensing technology that can read traffic signs such as speed limit markers and adjust the Accord's speed to fit those speed requirements. You can get even more safety features by upgrading to higher-trims.

As adaptive cruise control becomes more readily available, you can find cheap and affordable car models that include much of the same technology as modern luxury cars.

Geely Coolray Sport DCT 2020 Review

cars with adaptive cruise control philippines

Back in 2011, Autochina Inc. , launched Geely in the Philippines with the LC—aka the “Panda”—which boasted a 1.3-liter engine, funky styling , and decent space for the same money as the miniscule Hyundai Eon . But then Mitsubishi launched the Mirage , which had better performance, space, and—thanks to ASEAN tax breaks—a sticker price of just P498,000. In the ensuing flood of cheap ASEAN-built rivals, independents like Geely simply couldn’t find traction, and the distributor faded away.

In 2019,  Geely  returned, boasting European technology acquired from purchasing Volvo and with the backing of the Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corporation —fresh from its recent partnership with Mitsubishi Motors Philippines . Can Sojitz bring Geely the same success it found with Mitsubishi?

OTHER STORIES YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED: Construction of the Samal Island-Davao City Connector is underway Cavitex-C5 Link’s Merville exit ramp is now open to motorists

After a week spent with Geely’s latest offering, the Coolray , the answer seems to be: Quite possibly. Or that’s what my answer would be, if I could pick my jaw up off the floor.

Geely Coolray Sport DCT 2020 front exterior view

The Coolray’s design is based on the theme ‘Racing through Time.’ And those looks are suitably racy. The winged front end calls to mind a metallic manta ray, and is bracketed by brash grillework with hidden ‘G’ monogram motifs, and a plethora of LED lighting. Sharp creases give the body a solid, hewn feel. The intersection of the fender and the hard shoulder on the front door, in particular, shows off Geely’s high-pressure stamping capabilities well. A swoopy roofline terminates in an oh-so-trendy half D-pillar, ‘Wings of Time’ taillights cap the hard shoulder right underneath them.

The ‘Sport’ variant we have here features gorgeous 18-inch turbine-shaped alloy wheels , a black roof cap, and racy add-ons—front splitter, rear wing, and diffuser—with a faux carbon-fiber finish. No real aerodynamic effect—unglamorous plastic airdams underneath do all the work—but they are pretty.

Geely Coolray Sport DCT 2020 interior

The interior is best described as ‘Trekkie,’ with shiny grab handles and fancy exhaust-port AC vents framing a multi-mode LED intstrument panel and a wide 10-inch touchscreen. More ‘G’ monograms are hidden in the speaker grilles and the center console, while LED ‘waves’ under the silver panels light up at night, with colors to match whatever drive mode you’re in.

Well-bolstered black-and-red leather buckets provide comfortable perches, though the low seat cushion and the tight footwell mean you’ll have to scoot back a bit to find a comfortable driving position. Rear seat and trunk space are generous, thanks to a long 2,600mm wheelbase , but a gigantic full-length sunroof, with an integrated electric sunshade, cuts into headroom a bit. There’s a removable tonneau cover in the back, and the rear seats can be folded for extra space, though given the size of the trunk, there’s rarely ever a need to do so.

Geely Coolray Sport DCT 2020 engine

The Geely’s engine starts up with a tiny bark, then settles into a smooth, whisper-quiet idle. From the inside, that is. Crank the window and you’ll be met by the muted but familiar clatter of a three-cylinder mill. But one with a big honking turbo. The Volvo-derived 1.5-liter engine makes 175 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, more than in the similar Volvo XC40 T3 —at least until next year’s power upgrade. Instead of the eight-speed Volvo automatic, the Coolray features a seven-speed dual clutch , which will also likely find its way to the XC40 next year.

The combination is good for 100kph in around 8.6sec , despite some delay in response from a full stop. Boost kicks in at just under 1,500 rpm and there’s power everywhere, though the transmission often shifts well below 6,000rpm. Thanks to a wet clutch system—as compared to the dry clutch on other small DCTs—the expected slurring, hesitation and jerkiness in stop-and-go traffic is notably absent. It’s only in the hard-shifting Sport mode where acceleration at low speeds can feel jerky. In Eco mode, operation is buttery smooth, but response feels just a bit too languid. Normal mode—accessed by simply exiting either Sport or Eco—is the Goldilocks zone, comfortable enough for daily driving, but responsive enough for quick overtakes.

Thanks to the efficient drivetrain, in-town economy hovers in the 8km/L range. On the highway, the sheer smoothness and refinement of the Coolray had us unconsciously cruising at well over the limit, which sort of ruined our fuel logs. Keep to 80kph, though, with the engine just ticking over idle in seventh gear, and 20+km/L is possible. Not bad for this much power!

Driving impressions

Geely Coolray Sport DCT 2020 exterior night

By default, the Coolray’s steering assist is linked to the drive mode, but it’s disconcertingly light in anything but Sport mode. There’s a setting in the menu that allows you to lock it there, but even with the extra heft, on-center feel is a bit rubbery. Which is odd, because the action itself is quick and responsive. The Coolray is quite agile, with good roll control and lots of grip from the 215/55 R18 Continental Ultracontact UC6 tires. It may not have the communicative verve of the Mazda CX-3 , but it’s one of the few cars in this class where such comparisons don’t feel forced. On the debit side, the soft rear suspension squats under acceleration and shimmies a bit when braking deep into corners, but stability control keeps things tidy. Again, that you can make these observations in the first place speaks highly of the car.

In more sedate driving, the Coolray acquits itself well. The stiff-sidewalled Continentals klumpf a bit over bumps, but not uncomfortably so. Good sightlines and large glass pay dividends in traffic, and a 360-degree camera display —with integrated proximity sensor overlays—makes parking a doodle. Aside from the standard top-down view on the camera system, there are several 3D views and wide-angle views that stay active at up to 30kph. They also activate when you signal to turn, to assist in merging. There’s a self-parking system (which we’ve covered in another video) that works a treat in well-marked and well-lit parking lots, but which can be indecisive in the dark. A speed limiter and adaptive cruise control round off an automated assist system that’s unrivaled by anything else in this class.

Extra features

Geely Coolray Sport DCT 2020 extrra features

Aside from the aforementioned driver aids, the Coolray Sport features automatic lighting and wipers, keyless entry, remote start, a gigantic two-panel sunroof with an electric shade, and twin USB ports flanking the 12V outlet hidden under the center console. Conspicuously absent is rear AC. Perhaps Geely thought it unnecessary on a car this small, but there’s only a narrow gap between the bulky front seats for air from the AC vents to pass through.

On the bright side, the touchscreen system rocks. There’s the aforementioned camera system, a built-in DVR ‘dashcam’ that records not only video and speed, but also driver inputs and signal usage. Sound from the six-speaker system may not be as crisp as the best, but it’s got good clarity and bass reproduction. Though the Coolray lacks Android Auto and Apple CarPlay , the bundled QDLink Android App is one of the best aftermarket mirroring systems I’ve tried so far. No faffing about with developer options or passwords. Just download, boot up, plug in, and you’re good to go. QDLink features a customizable dashboard for preferred apps, as well as straight screen mirroring. This allows you to run not just navigation apps like Waze, but also movies and mobile games. But not while driving, please!

Geely Coolray Sport DCT 2020 side view

There are crossovers that provide the same level of power, kit, and refinement as the Coolray—only they tend to cost over twice as much. What you get here is premium content with a mass-market price tag. Even the base Comfort variant, at under P1 million, features the same 10-inch infotainment package and 174hp engine. And while it does have some drawbacks, that value for money—plus a 150,000km/five- year warranty backed by an experienced distribution group—makes it seem like a winner. It may be a little late to the game, with several other turbocharged Chinese crossovers already on the market, but there’s nothing else offering this much kit and luxury at this price level. Where the lovable Panda couldn’t charm its way into our crowded market, the ’Ray may just have the sting to knock the competition dead.

Safer Drives with the Honda SENSING

Honda’s global safety philosophy “Safety for Everyone” represents Honda’s commitment to a collision free society. This is the foundation of technologies designed to protect drivers, passengers, riders, as well as pedestrians, so that everyone can safely share the roads. Correspondingly, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. now has a range of vehicles that are provided with the Honda SENSING .

Aside from the newly launched 11 th generation All-New Civic that has the latest version of Honda SENSING given its usage of the monocular camera while eliminating the radar, the brand’s driver assist features are also accessible on other models. The following include the CR-V, Accord, and the Civic Type R. With all that said, here’s an in-depth explanation for every feature.

Honda SENSING News

Collision Mitigation Braking System ( CMBS )

Collision Mitigation Braking System or also known as CMBS warns and helps the driver avoid frontal collision or reduce the impact of the vehicle when avoidable by providing the driver with visual and audible warnings. It will also automatically apply the brakes when necessary. The audible alarm will stop once the system or the driver prevented the possible frontal collision.

Adaptive Cruise Control ( ACC ) with Low-Speed Follow ( LSF )

Unlike the standard cruise control on other models, Honda’s Adaptive Cruise Control or ACC is coupled with Low-Speed Follow or LSF, making highway drives a more pleasant experience. What ACC does is it lessens the fatigue of both driver and its passengers by maintaining the speed based on the car in front of you. The system is, therefore, able to perform braking and acceleration as needed. LSF, on the other hand, makes it easier to drive on stop-and-go traffics, a perfect feature that's set to make your EDSA rush hour crawls a more convenient experience.

Lane Keeping Assist System ( LKAS )

Third on the list is the Lane Keeping Assist System or LKAS. What the system does is it assists the driver’s steering in order to keep the vehicle well-positioned inside its lane. The steering wheel will vibrate, and an icon will pop up on the TFT once it senses the car departing the lane without the use of turn signals.

Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning ( RDM with LDW )

Road Departure Mitigation or RDM helps the driver avoid collision by steering the car back to the center of the lane. Lane Departure warning LDW, on the other hand, notifies the driver when the car is going off course. The system only does this when the driver departs the lane without using the turn signal lights.

Auto High-Beam ( AHB )

For a safer drive during nighttime, the Honda SENSING package also includes Auto High-Beam or AHB. This feature automatically turns on the high beams when there are no other vehicles ahead and lowers your beam appropriately when encountering oncoming traffic.

Lead Car Departure Notification System ( LCDN )

The latest addition to the Honda SENSING suite of safety features is the Lead Car departure Notification System or LCDN. Locally introduced on the 11th generation All-New Honda Civic, the LCDN alerts the driver of the vehicle when the car in front has moved ahead from a standstill.

The advanced driver-assist features do not only deliver better safety and convenience, but also elevate the driver’s confidence on the road, especially now that Honda SENSING is available across several models in the local lineup. This is a solid testament to Honda’s dedication to deliver “Safety for Everyone”.

Videos are available for viewing at the Honda SENSING Page. Visit the VIRTUAL SHOWROOM or any Honda Cars dealership near you to know more about the All-New Civic and other Honda vehicles equipped with the Honda SENSING.

DISCLAIMER: Always drive safely. The Honda SENSING's functions are intended to provide driving support to drivers. The features don’t make the car self-driving or fully automated. There are limits to the capabilities (e.g. recognition and control capabilities) of individual functions. The driver must always stay alert on what is happening. Please be sure to read the user's manual before driving the vehicle.

Adaptive cruise control *

P6-22w22-XC40nonBEV-Cam and radar principal

An adaptive cruise control can provide a more relaxing driving experience on long journeys on motorways and long straight main roads in smooth traffic flows.

The driver selects the desired speed and a time interval to the vehicle ahead. If the camera and radar unit detects a slower vehicle in front of the car, the speed is adapted automatically via the preset time interval to the vehicle ahead. When the road is clear again the car returns to the selected speed.

  • regulate the speed smoothly. In situations that demand sudden braking the driver must brake himself/herself. This applies in cases of large speed differences or if the vehicle in front brakes suddenly. Due to the limitations of the radar unit, braking may come unexpectedly or not at all.
  • follow the vehicle ahead in the same lane at a time interval set by the driver. If the radar unit cannot see any vehicle in front then the car will instead maintain the speed stored by the driver. This also takes place if the speed of the vehicle ahead increases and exceeds the stored speed.

Steep roads and/or heavy load

Bear in mind that the adaptive cruise control is primarily intended for use when driving on level road surfaces. The function may have difficulty in keeping the correct distance from the vehicle ahead when driving on steep downhill slopes – in which case, be extra attentive and ready to brake.

Do not use adaptive cruise control if the car has a heavy load or a trailer is connected to the car.

  • This is not a collision avoidance system. The driver is always responsible and must intervene if the system does not detect a vehicle ahead.
  • The function does not brake consistently for humans or animals, and neither for small vehicles such as bicycles and motorcycles. Nor for low trailers, oncoming, slow or stationary vehicles and objects.
  • Do not use the function in demanding situations, such as in city traffic, at junctions, on slippery surfaces, with a lot of water or slush on the road, in heavy rain/snow, in poor visibility, on winding roads or on slip roads.
  • The function is supplementary driver support intended to facilitate driving and make it safer – it cannot handle all situations in all traffic, weather and road conditions.
  • The driver is advised to read all sections in the Owner's Manual that relate to this function to learn about factors such as its limitations and what the driver should be aware of before using the system.
  • Driver support functions are not a substitute for the driver's attention and judgement. The driver is always responsible for ensuring the car is driven in a safe manner, at the appropriate speed, with an appropriate distance to other vehicles, and in accordance with current traffic rules and regulations.

My brother and I both own Toyota vehicles and we both believe in Toyota reliability and durability. But looking at the 1.5 engine of the Veloz, Avanza, and Rush, if I have the budget, I will definitely gravitate towards the Okavango or Tiggo 8. Sorry Toyota, putting a sedan engine on heavy 7- seaters is a disappointment.

Okavango is a bit thirsty. Doing 6.2km/L in the city on the average. Goes down to 5.5 in really heavy traffic. Though it hasn't breached 5000 mileage yet. But we love the vehicle. The size, toys, ride and even acceleration are more than we expected. Too bad Geely has just implemented huge price increase.

Bat di ka mag innova? Madaming 1.5 7 seater hindi lang toyota. At yung avanza tagal ng 1.57seater yan. My 1.3 nga eh. Mesabi lang

I have the Okavango Urban Plus and I can't say anything negative about it except for it's gas consumption. City driving, it consumes a lot of gas but the 48v battery helps with that. I'm currently around 8-9km/L at city driving, still mastering Smart Coasting and 16-18km/L on long drives.

Agree, the Okavango's package is a winner. On fuel efficiency though, doesn't the mild hybrid help? My family is considering on getting one.

Uly, "insane about of", amount of, "no complains", no complaints, "squeeze in", squeezed in. Anyway, how stiff is the ride compared to the horrible Rush? Do kids need to take Bonamine before a long out of town trip? 11.7km/L @ a relatively fast, light traffic 36km/h city speed seem high, how many passengers did you have? The upcoming BR-V looks better, esp. from the side where it looks genuinely like a mini SUV. Features are a match assuming HCPI doesn't strip it down compared to the Indon version. The Toyota gets a 360° camera compared to the LaneWatch camera on the BR-V, while the Honda gets the more powerful engine. BTW, when is the local launch for the BR-V expected to be?

cars with adaptive cruise control philippines

Thanks for the proof-read. I still don't wear my reading glasses when I write...maybe I should. From the first or second rows, no need for Bonamine. It's definitely leagues better than the Rush in terms of ride. It would be interesting to try out the third row with someone else driving. FC is high because we definitely did a highway drive with this one. The average speed went down because of the shoot that we did. If it's purely highway (say, average speed 64 km/h), we were hitting 17.2 km/L. BR-V is the next Honda product to be launched. Still no timeline on that one though.

Any news on the BR-V launch?

FC is low. Fuel Efficiency is high.

D new xpander still stuck wd 4 sped trans n just 2 erbags, no sense...LOL

The only vehicle in its class with rear disc brakes believe it or not. With impressive safety with acceptable levels of comfort, the new Veloz IMHO is better than its mainstream competitors, and certainly waaaay better than the crappy Rush LOL.

I heard the Rush will continue with the GR Sport as the TOTL grade this time. Is this true?

Officially, Toyota says the "Rush will continue for now." Notice their emphasis. Likely, the Rush take on a different form once it switches platforms, or they might discontinue it altogether.

I hope the Rush becomes a tiny ladder frame 4WD to compete with the Jimny, just like the original gen1 Toyota Rush and Daihatsu Terios. The current Rush makes no sense to buy anymore.

Saw you at the launch where you guys were tinkering at the 2nd row, seems like having some difficulty with something... personally didnt really liked DNGA rebadged as T, but seems this Veloz turned the corner... can you confirm if there really are puddle lights on the V-grade? TIA

We were examining the space for the second and the third row of seats. I was also pointing out that the material for the third row is all fabric compared to the leather/fabric of the first and second rows. I found that to be a weird decision. There are no puddle lamps.

there are puddle lights for G and V variants. Toyota calls it welcome light in the spec sheet. Got a Veloz G which was delivered a few days back. Smart key remote has a new layout, press the Toyota logo for lock function.

I stand corrected on the puddle/welcome lights. The Toyota key layout is similar to the Raize and Avanza.

Maybe puddle lamps are brighter than welcome lamps

Daihatsu is wholly owned by toyota n DNGA raize is being sold in japan since 2019. Whats good in avanza n raize is it has more safety features than its competitors, at least here in ph

Cant Toyota just shutter Daihatsu like what Nissan did to Datsun? Suzuki, Honda, Mitsu, Isuzu does not have such....

Toyota relies on Daihatsu for models they sell on emerging countries, the Rush, Avanza/Veloz, Wigo, & Raize are all rebadged Daihatsu's. If Toyota were to shutter the company then they'll have to research and develop cars for all those segments from scratch, and that takes a very long time, not to mention it will be financially taxing....

Dude, Nissan shutting down the Datsun (assuming we are talking about modern Datsun) because poor sale while the Daihatsu is still popular in Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

For the Veloz G, I am curious why Toyota removed Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitoring given that Avanza G has it? Given that both models are in a "G" trim, similar/same platform, they should have kept the safety feature at least instead of gutting it since the Veloz is already priced higher than the Avanza. They can keep the more advanced TSS Features on the V if they are so inclined, but the Veloz G doesn't make sense to me.

^Maybe because the T badge just want to show people they can remove or include anything at their pleasure, and customers will still bite

Only thing missing is adaptive cruise control.

That will drive the price even further. And if you look closely on the front hood, I think there's no radar for the adaptive cruise control to work.

Yup. No radar. It uses a dual cam setup only.

Even standard cruise control would be welcome. If BR-V with honda sensing is priced similarly, I would probably choose that instead.

Yes but personally I wouldn't mind. The AEB + FCW and blind spot monitoring would be enough to be honest. But if I would have a choice, I am willing to trade Lane Departure Warning and Auto high beam for even just a standard cruise control.

I find most Ph market Toyotas are just a lot of form but lack substance. Then the Ch cars came, steadily becoming consistent. Toyota might now be realizing this and would like to nip the competition in the bud. Hope this Veloz is the beginning of better products from Toyota.

Hello Uly! Do you think the D-NGA platform switch to the rear torsion beam suspension versus the previous multi-link will affect the riding performance and ground clearance especially in treacherous rural roads and when fully loaded? (e.g. 7 passengers, sometimes 8 people, with cargo) I've seen some previous Avanzas having their ground clearance suspect when fully loaded despiteusing a multi-link suspension. Wanted to know your thoughts on it.

We haven't tried loading it with 7 people. Toyota hasn't revealed the Avanza/Veloz's payload capacity too. But if we were to use the previous body-on-frame version, its GVW was 1,680 kilograms. Assuming a similar figure in the new Avanza, it should theoretically carry 7 heavy-framed adults.

If you have the budget, just get the Okavango, no regrets.

Third break light inside the glass is so old school. The one on the Raize look better.

Toyota Ph knows that selling these DNGA cars officially as Daihatsu will flop, so they are duping Filipinos (taking advantage of their love for the T badge)... its like one proposing to Kendall Jenner very but got married to a Kardasian instead lols!

H more of marketing strategy than duping pnoys customers as Daihatsu is wholly owned by toyota. DNGA is being both used by toyota n daihatsu in japan, so quality is assured. Cannot say d same wd ford terrirory

There is a reason why Toyota has Diahatsu and Lexus.

Automatic climate control has only 1 fixed mode, airflow for upperbody and no options for airflow towards the feet nor for the windshield. Toyota even placed plastic coverings for the windshield vents, similar to the Rush and Avanza

Yes. Very true. The airflow function is fixed.

Andaming maraming alam. Kayo na magagaling.

One needs to know what they will be paying for. Some people just know a scam when they see one

Di namin kasalanan bobo ka

Freedom of specs...LOL

11.7 km/L @ 36 km/h is bad. Its much worse than a Fortuner.

The top version of Avanza.

Once and for all, can you please confirm if the Veloz V variant has cruise control, even just the standard cruise control. I am getting conflicting reports from different reviewers of other car sites like Zigwheel or Top Gear.

It doesn't have cruise control.

I am in a quandary between the Veloz vs the HRV. Which do you think is better? Thanks

Do you need 7 seats or not? If not, get the HR-V, it's more powerful & better-equipped, shorter, easier to maneuver & park.

I have invested with some scam brokers in the past, and the story is as horrific as the ones i have read because i went through the ordeal myself. I lost almost $55k to this unfortunate brokers, a friend referred me to Mr Evans Rashad that got me 80% of my money back, plus my accrued bonuses. Please stay clear of these scammers and if you have lost money you can still get your money back if you really want to, you can reach out to Evans Rashad at: {evansrashad836 (@) gmail.com}. he will definitely help you in getting back your lost funds to any broker….. as mine was recovered too.

Cars in your comparison, adaptive cruise control: an invisible layer of safety – car feature of the month.

It’s an extra layer of protection and doesn’t make your car autonomous.

Earl Lee

While cruise control has been a long-standing must for those who frequent the highway, adaptive cruise control is a godsend of a feature that allows users the convenience of relaxing even more than they normally would with the standard cruise control feature.

A certain level of autonomy is granted to a car with this technology. In many cases, the vehicle will need extra hardware in order to have this feature on board.

How does it work?

Adaptive Cruise Control: An invisible layer of safety – Car Feature of the Month

Cruise control involves a set of buttons that links directly to the throttle controller of the engine. In the past, it was a servo motor that opened and closed the throttle body to maintain or gain speed as needed. Nowadays, these buttons are linked directly to the ECU and allow the car to regulate its speed through the electronic throttle body controller found in modern cars.

Adaptive cruise control works and is activated the same way as normal cruise control. The driver has to get up to a certain speed first or set and allow the computer to accelerate on its own. The difference, however, is that it uses a set of radars and sensors that allow the car to detect objects, such as other cars in front of it. Modern systems also include a forward collision warning along with active lane keep assist that further prevent accidents happening on the highway.

How do you use it?

Adaptive Cruise Control: An invisible layer of safety – Car Feature of the Month

An array of buttons usually mark the presence of cruise control. These buttons can be found in either the steering wheel or in the indicator stalks, depending on the car. Activating this feature usually involves pressing two or three buttons depending on the execution. A button is used to turn on the cruise control, while another is used to set it. For adaptive functionality, you may need to press another button before or after your cruising speed is set. It all depends on the manufacturer’s control scheme.

Once on, you can use it like any other cruise system. It activates with the press of a few buttons and it is overridden the moment the brake pedal is depressed. It is important to note that this system is not an autonomous driving technology. It can still be overridden with the driver’s input; however, it should not be left alone. The driver still needs to treat this technology as a layer of protection and not as a way to get around on the highway.

Do you need it?

In many cases, most people do not need adaptive cruise control in the Philippines. For the most part, especially in Metro Manila, Filipinos will find themselves caught in traffic more often than being on the highway. In this case, the vehicle cannot stretch its legs enough in order to utilize adaptive cruise control fully. Some adaptive cruise controls, however, are geared towards city driving. These systems use the same radar array that lets the vehicle crawl and stop and go traffic.

For those of us that frequent the highway and travel long distances , however, this feature is going to be very helpful in order to keep occupants and fellow motorists safe from sudden instances of inattentiveness. If you don’t find yourself on the highway too often, then it shouldn’t matter too much if you can’t find it on the spec sheet. It should matter if the system can be used in stop and go traffic as well, but you really should pay attention to the road instead of leaving it all to a system. It’s more of an extra layer of protection against your inattentiveness.

I was returning at end of lease an Audi Q5, and was interested in leasing another one. The price increase plus interest on a lease for the Q5 was above my budget. I drove the Q3, not thinking that I would like it as much as the Q5. I was wrong. The Q3 is a smaller version on the Q5 with all of the comfort, performance and handling. Everything I liked about the larger car was there in the Q3. I drive the model with the larger engine and the power was apparent. This car has the German handling that I wanted, and the fit and finish is excellent. Going a little smaller was not a dealbreaker and I continue to be very satisfied with my new Q3.

2024 Audi Q3 review: Our expert's take

With Audi planning to launch no new vehicles powered by internal combustion engines after 2026, it’s possible that resources are thin for gas-burning vehicles like the Q3, the current generation of which launched in 2019. Accordingly, updates for the small SUV are few.

Related: Here Are 5 Great Affordable Luxury Cars You Can Buy Right Now

In terms of standard equipment, there’s just one update: Adaptive cruise control is now standard across the Q3 line. Other changes are limited to an available wireless phone charger and HomeLink functionality and revised paint options.

Performance Specs

The Q3 continues to offer a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in two strengths. In the Q3 40, it makes 184 horsepower and 221 pounds-feet of torque. In the 45 S Line, output ratchets up to 228 hp and 258 pounds-feet. Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Trim Levels

The 2024 Q3 continues to be available in Premium and Premium Plus trim levels. The base 40 Premium comes fitted with a panoramic moonroof, three-zone climate control, heated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.8-inch touchscreen and ambient lighting. Audi’s standard safety suite for the Q3 includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic monitoring, and front and rear parking sensors.

Moving up to the Premium Plus variant adds keyless entry and starting, adjustable ambient lighting, lane departure steering assist and a 360-degree parking camera. The Technology Package, only available on the higher trim level, includes Amazon Alexa, navigation, traffic-sign recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , and a Sonos sound system. In addition to the extra power, Q3 45 models also gain more options for wheel designs and interior colors.

Pricing and Availability

Audi’s 2024 Q3 will go on sale later this year. Pricing (including an $1,195 delivery charge) is as follows:

  • 40 TFSI Premium: $38,195
  • 40 TFSI Premium Plus: $40,995
  • 45 TFSI S Line Premium: $40,595

  • How does cruise control work?

“Connected to the accelerator, cruise control uses an actuator to control the throttle to maintain the pre-set speed. Adaptive cruise control is an enhanced system that manages the speed electronically.”

How Cruise Control Works

While driving on an open road for a long time, it would be pretty tiring to keep pressing the accelerator pedal. Cruise control is a feature that helps reduce such fatigue drivers would feel while driving a long distance. The system imitates the way human drivers drive. But instead of pressing the accelerator pedal, it uses an actuator to control the throttle and helps your car continue cruising at the same speed.

The cruise control system used in older cars is connected to the accelerator through a cable to maintain the gas pedal in a certain position to keep the pre-set speed.   Whereas the system in newer cars electronically manages the speed through a program without a cable. Instead, a computer connected with various sensors and throttle controls operates the feature through a wireless system. This newer technology can automatically adjust the speed based on how fast the vehicle ahead is going while maintaining a safe distance.   It dramatically reduces drivers’ fatigue since drivers do not have to press and release the accelerator pedal repeatedly. Drivers will find the system particularly useful on highways or roads with traffic jams during rush hour.

Cruise Control vs. Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive cruise control is an advanced version of the existing cruise control system. With the conventional system, the vehicle cruises at the speed previously set by the driver without the need to keep pressing the accelerator pedal. On the other hand, the adaptive cruise control system does the same; however, it can also calculate the speed of the car ahead of you by using the data from radar sensors and automatically adjust the speed of your vehicle to keep a safe following distance between the vehicles. If the vehicle ahead slows down, the system detects the reduction of speed and operates the controls to decelerate your car. If the car in front of you changes to another lane, the system gives the engine a signal to accelerate and reach the initially set speed.

The research deals with the priority areas of digitalization in the transport sector in interpreting the strategy “Moscow ‘Smart City—2030’.” The research aims to study the priority areas of digitalization of transport flows of the metropolis and the potential impact of digitalization on the functioning of the territory. By applying the methods of content analysis and the regulatory-legal method in the research, the authors assessed the position of the city authorities on the most sought-after areas of innovation in the transport sector and determined the composition of socio-economic benefits of digitalization of the transport sector. The analysis of statistical indicators of the development of the transport sector of the Moscow urban agglomeration has confirmed the growing need to improve the efficiency of transport infrastructure in the broad sense, including an increase in the level of connectivity of the city districts and the level of sustainability of the transport system. The results show certain disproportions between the priority areas of transport development and the actual needs of the urban infrastructure, as well as the presence of significant legal constraints in implementing uncrewed transport concepts. It is demonstrated that there is a certain consensus between the municipal authorities and the population on the issue of assigning the transport sector among the priorities for implementing digital technology. The specifics of the metropolitan area (high concentration of capital and innovation activity) allow for considering Moscow as a model example of the introduction of innovative technologies. In this regard, it is necessary to optimize the legal restrictions on the introduction of innovations in the field of transport (on the model of a legal sandbox, Regulatory Sandbox).

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
