Break my soul, break these records: Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour by the numbers

Meanwhile, it's been 15 months since Renaissance dropped and we're still listening to it. No skips.

The Renaissance World Tour has come to a close, leaving a trail of snatched wigs, discarded silver lamé, and depleted checkbooks in its wake.

All in all, Beyoncé 's ninth concert tour pulled in $579 million, making it the highest-grossing tour by a female artist in history, and the seventh-highest-grossing tour overall.

But if you look at it based on number of shows, Queen Bey maintains her crown. The Renaissance Tour had 56 shows that ran the course of the summer versus, say, the No. 6 highest-grossing tour, Guns N' Roses three-year, 158-show Never In This Lifetime... Tour.

And then there's the average gross per show: Bey made $10.3 million per show, compared to the highest-grossing tour of all-time, Elton John 's Farewell Yellow Brick Road, which averaged $2.8 million per show (it ran for five years and 330 shows, grossing $939.1 million).

The Renaissance Tour also broke Billboard's record for biggest one-month gross with $127.6 million.

All that money helped boost the American economy, with The New York Times estimating that the Bey bump generated about $4.5 billion, comparable to what the 2008 Olympics did for Beijing.

Across 10 countries and 39 cities, the Renaissance Tour machine employed 304 people, as Beyoncé gagged 2.7 million fans in 148 different looks from over 35 fashion houses, while singing 34 songs per night.

And for those who missed out on the live o-p-u-l-e-n-c-e, there's a Renaissance concert film coming to theaters Dec. 1, fulfilling the promise of those long-awaited visuals.

And we only had to wait 490 days. But who's counting?

Beyoncé’s $579 Million Renaissance World Tour Box Office Is the Highest Recorded Total for a Black Artist

The 32-time Grammy-winner set numerous records on the Billboard Boxscore chart which, prior to the Renaissance Tour, had a top 10 comprised solely of white, male artists.

Beyoncé 's Renaissance Tour dazzled fans around the world and wowed at the box office.

Queen Bey's global excursion earned $579 million, according to Variety , with 2.7 million concertgoers attending 56 dates in 39 cities.

In terms of Billboard Boxscore —which "has charted the biggest tours in the world" for "nearly four decades" and has a top 10 comprised solely of white, male artists—this places Beyoncé's latest run as the seventh-highest-grossing tour on the chart, making her the only woman, only Black artist, and only American solo act to enter the ranks.

Billboard noted in an August check-in that the list doesn't yet officially "mention newly launched 2023 treks by Beyoncé, Metallica, Taylor Swift, and more." Estimates have Swift’s still-in-progress Eras Tour landing at over $1 billion—or more than double that—but we won’t know for certain until she wraps up next year.

The final numbers are in. 📈 Beyonce's #RENAISSANCEWorldTour brought in $580 million across 56 sold out shows. It more than DOUBLES Beyoncé's previous touring record set by the Formation World Tour and cements its place as the highest grossing tour by a black artist in history. pic.twitter.com/QYZA4ImaV4 — BEYONCÉ LEGION (@BeyLegion) October 3, 2023

Beyoncé also set a new precedent by accomplishing this feat in merely 56 concerts, while virtually everyone else in the top 10 took at least 100 shows to stack up similar sales. The Rolling Stones are the only act remotely close to Bey in this respect, making $547 million across 58 gigs. At No. 1 and No. 2, Elton John ($939.1M) and Ed Sheeran ($776M) needed 330 and 258 dates to hit their totals.

On the European leg, Bey  earned $154.4 million across 21 gigs, selling more than 1 million tickets. The tour's five-night residency at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London made history as the most times an artist has performed at the venue since its 2019 opening. She played for 238,000 fans across the shows.

The 32-time Grammy-winner made $16.5 million each night she performed at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in July, according to Touring Data . The tracking outlet reported at the time that Bey's overall ticket revenue across her tours had hit $1.5 billion.

Rumors of the 42-year-old adding South American and Oceania dates have been circulating online. Although it's all speculation for now, a continuation of the Renaissance World Tour would further boost its standing.

Just moments after Beyoncé left the stage at her final show in Kansas City , she revealed that she'd be bringing the tour experience to movie theaters with the trailer for Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé . The film is set to be released in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico on Dec. 1. A global release date will be announced in the following weeks.

O.J. Simpson, former NFL star acquitted of murder, dies at 76, his family says

Beyoncé makes history with highest-grossing tour by a woman or black artist.

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour raked up over $579 million, making it the highest-grossing tour by a Black artist.

According to Variety , the tour gathered 2.7 million concertgoers during it’s run, which was almost five months long. The Beyoncé-conceived experience stopped in 39 cities, and per Complex , it is the seventh-highest-grossing tour on  Billboard Boxscore ‘s top 10. The success of the tour makes Beyoncé the only Black artist, only woman and only American solo act to make Billboard Boxscore’s coveted list.

Billboard Boxscore noted in August that its list doesn’t mention “newly launched 2023 treks by Beyoncé, Metallica, Taylor Swift and more.” However, CNN reported that some estimate Swift’s Eras Tour will garner over $1 billion, possibly more than double that. Those number won’t be determined until she wraps her tour in 2024.

Other artists on Billboard’s top 10 took at least 100 shows to crack those big numbers, setting Beyoncé, who did so in just 56 dates, apart, Complex reported. The only act to get close to Beyoncé’s new record was The Rolling Stones, which made $547 million over 58 gigs. Elton John and Ed Sheeran are in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, though they needed hundreds of dates to secure those positions.

Following the tour’s European leg alone, Queen Bey earned $154.4 million, selling more than 1 million tickets. The “Break My Soul” singer’s five-night residency at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London marked the most times an artist has performed at the venue since it opened in 2019. She performed for 238,000 fans across those shows.

Two nights at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey earned Beyoncé $16.5 million per night, Touring Data reported. The tracking outlet determined Bey made $306.9 million across her U.S. dates.

Fans have been buzzing about the singer adding a South American leg and an Oceanian leg to the tour. Though nothing has been confirmed, Beyoncé announced after her final show in Kansas City that a movie chronicling the tour will be coming out in theaters. The film, titled Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé , is set to be released in the U.S., Canada and Mexico on Dec. 1.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour Becomes Highest Grossing Tour By Black Artist

Mail

Queen Beyoncé is having the best year ever. So far, we’ve witnessed everyone from Oprah to Madonna sing praise to what is arguably one of the greatest shows ever. After 33 shows, box office data shows, Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour has become the high-grossing tour of her career, with $295,676,504 in sales.

highest grossing tours beyonce

This becomes the highest-grossing tour of all time by a black artist, breaking the record set by her own Formation World Tour. Set to make $500,000,000 in ticket sales, I can’t help but to think about the adversity she overcame back when she silently fought through senseless rumors. If we learn anything from this ray of light we learned that naysayers and opinions don’t mean a thing when you stay disciplined and focused.

This tour tells a story with so many hidden gems that calling it a show doesn’t even do it justice—it’s an experience. One that you don’t want to miss. Creative thinkers, movers and shakers have been showing up by the boatloads to get a glimpse of this epic performance. Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, Pharrell Williams, Kelly Rowland, Salma Hayek, Kris and Kylie Jenner, Kandi, Megan Thee Stallion, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Amy Schumer, Ashley Graham and more have made this a priority in their schedule much like the rest of us.

I remember a time when they couldn’t pronounce her name correctly.

Now my 7-year-old daughter Felicity is envisioning her own future after we went to see Beyonce perform at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. We both sang and danced through tears amazed at the legend my daughter (and myself) look up to. For three hours straight we watched her consistency, perfection, stamina and creativity in a way the world has never seen before. After growing up with every image but my own in the spotlight, it’s breathtaking to witness this greatness from Beyonce (and Blue Ivy) with my own black princess.

It’s safe to say this generation has a new Michael Jackson in town…and her name is Beyoncé.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour Reaches All-Time High with Single Month Earning

by Tina Benitez-Eves August 24, 2023, 2:23 pm

In May 2023, Beyoncé had the top-grossing tour before slipping into the No. 2 spot in June. Now, her Renaissance World Tour has climbed back to No. 1 on the Top Tours chart for the month of July, according to Billboard , after earning $127.6 million for a run of 11 shows between July 8 and 30.

Videos by American Songwriter

The tour earnings mark the largest one-month sum for an artist within the history of the Billboard Boxscore archives. When the Renaissance World Tour kicked off in May 2023, Beyoncé became the  first woman  to top the chart since 2019 when Pink went to No. 1 with her Beautiful Trauma World Tour.

Beyoncé’s recent five-date residency at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England was also the highest-grossing engagement by an American artist, a Black artist, and a woman, with gross earnings of $42.2 million.

Her July record surpasses  Bad Bunny ’s previous top-grossing month in September 2022. Prior to Bad Bunny’s big tour month, no artist reported earnings of $100 million within one month since the charts launched in 2019.

In addition to Beyoncé’s record-breaking earnings, her recent two-night shows at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, July 29-30, also topped the Top Boxscores chart by selling 106,000 tickets and earning $33.1 million. Additionally, her two shows at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois peaked at No, grossing $30.1 million, followed by her two shows at Roger’s Centre in Toronto at $18.3 million (at No. 7), and four other spots on the chart — at Nos. 20, 24, 27, and 30 — which is more than any other artist.

[RELATED: Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour Is Highest Grossing of Any R&B Artist]

The Renaissance World Tour has grossed $295.8 million total through Aug. 1, and marks Beyoncé’s highest-grossing tour of all time. Renaissance has already surpassed her The Formation World Tour in 2016, which earned $256 million, and her On the Run II Tour joint headlining tour with husband Jay-Z, in 2018, which brought in $253 million.

Her current tour is estimated to break the half-billion mark by the end of its run on October 1 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Last week, Beyoncé released "Cowboy Carter,"  a 27-track country album the bends the genre and has already made history. Fans clearly can't get enough of the album, which has already broken streaming records on several platforms.

Spotify announced on social media last week that on the day the album dropped, Friday, March 29, it became the platform's most-streamed album in a single day in 2024 so far.

"Cowboy Carter" also earned the title of most-first day streams of a country album by a female artist on Amazon Music. The album also saw Beyoncé's biggest debut on the streaming platform, Amazon Music shared on social media .

Ahead of the album's release, Beyoncé dropped two singles on Super Bowl Sunday: "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages." The former debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Charts, making Beyoncé the first Black woman to top that chart, according to Billboard .

"Texas Hold 'Em" itself bends genres, landing on nine U.S. charts including pop, adult alternative, country, rhythmic, urban and R&B.

The album debuted at No. 2 on Apple Music charts and 26 out of 27 songs are currently on the streaming service's top 100 list.

Beyoncé, a Houston native who is also the album's executive producer, said in a statement it is "the best music I've ever made."

The album features collaborations with stars like Miley Cyrus and versions of iconic songs like Dolly Parton's 1973 hit "Jolene." Parton and Willie Nelson also lend their voices to vignettes on the album, as does Linda Martell, the first commercially successful Black woman country artist.

Beyoncé also covers the 1968 song "Blackbird" by the Beatles, featuring Black country singer-songwriters Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy and Reyna Roberts. Her song "Protector" features audio from her 6-year-old daughter, Rumi, and she collaborates on two songs with rapper Shaboozey.

She also samples Nancy Sinatra's 1966 song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" on the track "Ya Ya."

Sinatra reacted to the song on social media , writing: "To have a little piece of one of my records in a @Beyonce song is very meaningful to me because I love her. She represents what is great about today's music and I'm delighted to be a tiny part of it. This may be the best sample of 'Boots' yet! And the beat goes on."

Parton also posted about Beyoncé's cover of "Jolene," a scornful song with lyrics that warn a woman to stay away from your man. "Beyoncé is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it," Parton wrote .

NEW YORK (AP) — Beyoncé has made history once again. Her latest album, the epic “Act ll: Cowboy Carter”, hit No. 1 on the Billboard country albums chart, making her the first Black woman to top the chart since its 1964 inception.

The album also topped the all-genres Billboard 200, marking her eighth No. 1 album. According to Luminate, the industry data and analytics company, “Cowboy Carter” totaled 407,000 equivalent album units, a combination of pure album sales and on-demand streams, earned in the U.S. in its first week.

As a Black woman reclaiming country music , Beyoncé stands in opposition to stereotypical associations of the genre with whiteness . Conversation surrounding Beyoncé's country music explorations began when she arrived at the 2024 Grammy Awards in full cowboy regalia — making a statement without saying a word. Then, during the Super Bowl, she dropped two hybrid country songs : “ Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages," eventually leading to the release of “Cowboy Carter.”

In February, “Texas Hold ’Em” reached No. 1 on the country airplay chart, making her the first Black woman to top that chart as well.

Singer-Songwriter Cam Discusses Working on Five Tracks for Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’: ‘She’s Just Such a Creative Genius’

Cam

In June 2021, Cam got a call from her publisher who told her that a different songwriter couldn’t make a session and asked if she could go instead. Details were scarce — she didn’t even know whose session it was — and off she went to the studio on a whim. Little did she know she’d be walking into sessions for Beyoncé’s new chart-topping album, “Cowboy Carter,” which inevitably would feature writing, production, engineering and background singing from Cam on five of its songs.

Since debuting in 2010, the 39-year-old has etched a name for herself as an artist and songwriter, releasing a pop album in 2010 before a heel-turn to country with 2015’s “Untamed.” That record spawned her highest-charting hit to date, the confessional “Burning House,” which landed her a Grammy nomination. But she hit a different stride with 2020’s “The Otherside,” working with longtime collaborator Tyler Johnson and Jack Antonoff for a collection of songs that conveyed a deeper sophistication in her writing and performance.

Cam recalls that she worked on the album for the latter half of 2021, encouraged to share her ideas to be threaded into the bigger picture. “I could show up with these pieces that were purely myself,” she says. For instance, she channeled her love of requiems, which she sang in choir as a kid, for some of her contributions. “There’s no way you could even guess where she’s going. That’s one of my favorite things about Beyoncé and about this album, is that even though there are so many ties to the past and you hear everything woven through, it’s so forward-facing. She’s singing to us about the future and where we’re going, and I want to go there. So I think spiritually, I definitely felt aligned once I heard it all together. I couldn’t even realize that that’s where this was going back then. I was just contributing these pieces and building blocks that came from me that obviously were on the same journey.”

Right as “Cowboy Carter” released, Beyoncé revealed that she initially intended to put it out before 2022’s “Renaissance,” the first of a planned trilogy that centered on house and dance music. Cam states that she was surprised when “Renaissance” dropped instead, unsure of when the music she worked on would see the light of day.

“I was like, no!” she says with a laugh. “But I absolutely love ‘Renaissance’ so it was a no with a smile and a dance at the same time. The difference between me as an artist and writing for myself and getting to control the timeline and how it all goes and then deciding you’re going to collaborate and be in service as a writer, it’s a whole different ride. I’d like to say I have more understanding and patience for it, because I know how hard it is on the other side of things when you’re trying to direct the flow of traffic, but I definitely was like, this album is so important… So yeah, it was a big sigh of relief when it was finally released.”

She beams as she talks about “Cowboy Carter,” and recalls listening to “Protector” as a finished product for the first time. Cam is mother to her five-year-old daughter Lucy, and identified with the nurturing message of the song. “I just remember I was flying on a plane with [Lucy] and she was probably two and I was so overwhelmed,” she says. “I just remember thinking, all our parents have done this for us. They did it for us and now I’m doing it for her, and I just bawled my eyes out when I first heard that.”

Beyoncé

Over nearly four decades, Billboard Boxscore has charted the biggest tours in the world. From Whitney Houston and Billy Joel in the ‘80s to SZA and Post Malone in 2023, artists have topped Boxscore charts in Vegas theaters, international stadiums and everything in between.

Earlier this year, road warrior Elton John broke the record for the highest grossing tour of all time with the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. His tour began in September 2018, was interrupted by COVID for two years, and returned stronger than ever — and stronger than everyone else. Now, after more than 300 shows, the tour has ended, further extending its lead as the first tour to earn more than $900 million.

Most recently, Beyoncé broke the top 10, as the Renaissance World Tour closed on Oct. 1, 2023. One of four 2023 tours crowding the leaderboard, the Renaissance World Tour breaks up the near-monopoly of British rock acts, edging out Roger Waters ‘ The Wall Live.

The updated top 10 tours of all-time include previous record-holders by Ed Sheeran and The Rolling Stones, as well as live legends such as Guns N’ Roses .

John’s triumphant farewell tour is one of four in the top 10 with post-pandemic results, but more upheaval could be on the way. Still on the road, Sheeran recently slipped by the $400 million mark with his current tour, with more shows scheduled for this year. And that’s not to mention post-pandemic treks by P!nk , Taylor Swift , The Weeknd and more.

An influx of tours by these artists would not just help to modernize the top 10 but, on the back of Beyoncé’s entrance, would add more diversity, breaking up a current roster that includes seven tours by classic rock acts, eight acts from the U.K. and Ireland, and a top 10 that is almost exclusively white and male.

Below are the 10 highest grossing tours in the Boxscore archives, ranked by total earnings, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. All 10 have grossed more than $500 million. Who will be next to join the club?

Coldplay - A Head Full of Dreams Tour (2016-17)

Coldplay

Gross : $524 million Attendance : 5.4 million Shows : 115

Coldplay didn’t just level up with the A Head Full of Dreams Tour. The 2016-17 trek nearly tripled its previous best, 2011-12’s Mylo Xyloto Tour. The five-year gap, an extra 38 shows, and upgrading to stadiums worldwide turned the pop-rock group into titans of touring. Only recently was it surpassed by the band’s current tour, scaling the all-time list even further.

The Rolling Stones - No Filter Tour (2017-19, 2021)

Rolling Stones

Gross : $547 million Attendance : 2.9 million Shows : 58

The Stones move quickly. One of two top-10 tours that included fewer than 100 shows, The No Filter Tour was comprised of four brief summer runs, two in Europe and two in North America. Among the most powerful touring acts in the world, the rock legends averaged more than $11 million per show on the 2019 U.S. run, managing a $500-million-plus tour in less than 60 concerts.

The Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang Tour (2005-07)

Rolling Stones

Gross : $558 million Attendance : 3.5 million Shows : 111

We weren’t lying when we said that The Rolling Stones are among the most powerful touring acts in the world – they were the first act with two tours in the all-time top 10. Beginning in August 2005, A Bigger Bang Tour is the oldest trek on the ranking, inflation be damned.

Beyoncé - Renaissance World Tour (2023)

Beyoncé

Gross : $580 million Attendance : 2.8 million Shows : 56

From 56 shows in the span of less than five months, Beyoncé claims the briefest tour among the all-time top 10, while establishing herself as an anomaly. She is the only woman, the only Black artist and the only American solo act on the list, bringing a mix of R&B, dance and pop to a group of almost exclusively British rock. The Renaissance World Tour wrapped on Oct. 1, 2023, with $141.8 million in Europe and $438 million in the U.S. and Canada.

Guns N' Roses - Not in This Lifetime... Tour (2016-19)

Guns N Roses

Gross : $584 million Attendance : 5.4 million Shows : 158

The title of GnR’s comeback tour was apt, as the band shocked the world by reuniting most of its classic ‘80s lineup, getting Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan back together. The reinstated lineup paid dividends, first conquering the Americas in 2016, then Australia and Europe in 2017, and then all over again in 2018-19.

Harry Styles - Love on Tour (2021-23)

Harry Styles

Gross : $617.3 million Attendance : 5 million Shows : 169

Combining post-pandemic shows in support of 2019’s Fine Line with ’22-’23 dates surrounding his Grammy-winning Harry’s House album, Styles earned more than $600 million across five continents. The tour ended on July 22, 2023, in Italy, with its total gross eclipsing the career earnings of One Direction, the pop group that shot him to stardom.

Coldplay - Music of the Spheres World Tour (2022-23)

Coldplay, Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland

Gross : $617.8 million Attendance : 6.3 million Shows : 107

With its post-pandemic return, Coldplay mounted its biggest tour ever and followed The Rolling Stones to become the second artist with multiple $500M tours. The band is making the most of the world tour, selling out stadiums in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Dates are scheduled through February 2024, leaving more room to scale this list.

U2 - U2 360° Tour (2009-11)

U2

Gross : $736 million Attendance : 7.3 million Shows : 110

U2 held the all-time touring record from 2011 to 2019, having broken ground commercially as the first $700 million tour ever, and artistically with in-the-round technological advances that cemented the Irish rockers as one of the world’s premier live music experiences. Bono & co. dominated the 2009 year-end Top Tours ranking, slipped to No. 2 for 2010, and returned to the summit for 2011.

Ed Sheeran - The ÷ (Divide) Tour (2017-19)

Ed Sheeran

Gross : $776 million Attendance : 8.9 million Shows : 258

Ed Sheeran broke U2’s record in August 2019 and held it for more than three years. Across six continents, Sheeran sold nearly nine million tickets, still more than any other run in Boxscore history. Sheeran’s tour is one of just a few in the all-time top 10 that was propelled by new music, launching while “Shape of You” remained atop the Billboard Hot 100, and running through the releases of ÷ (Divide) and No.6 Collaborations Project and lengthy chart runs of “Perfect” and “I Don’t Care,” with Justin Bieber.

Elton John - Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour (2018-20, 2022-23)

Elton John

Gross : $939.1 million Attendance : 6 million Shows : 330

With eight shows in Australia and New Zealand in January 2023, Elton John officially secured the highest-grossing tour of all time . And with 49 final arena shows in Europe, the five-year farewell tour has come to a close, extending his lead over Sheeran, U2 and literally everyone else by more than $150 million. He began in arenas before the pandemic and graduated to global stadiums after, accelerating the tour’s rise from a top 20 contender to the all-time champ — a milestone Billboard commemorated in June with an award to John in a garden party at Windsor. While on tour, John’s career earnings have grown to $1.98 billion, making him the highest-grossing solo artist of all time.

Top artists rave about Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter' at iHeartRadio Awards

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter doesn't just have the internet buzzing about her new album "Act II: Cowboy Carter," celebrities on the yellow carpet of the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards also raved about her new country music.

"Just when you think she can't go to the next level, she goes there," said Doechii, who was nominated for three awards. "I think it's amazing, and I want to see more Black cowgirls and cowboys out there."

She was "blown away" by "Cowboy Carter" and appreciates how Beyoncé has crossed over into different genres throughout her career.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

The superstar herself attended the awards show at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles to receive one of the night's top honors , the Innovator Award, just days after her the album came out on Friday .

Country artist Lainey Wilson, who was nominated twice, said she was "jamming" to "II Most Wanted" featuring Miley Cyrus.

"I'm excited to see the fans that didn't know they liked country music find out that maybe they like it a little bit," Wilson said. "I'm all about seeing country music grow right now."

Blanco Brown, a Black country music artist, said he hadn't had a chance to listen to "Cowboy Carter" yet but he liked the single "Texas Hold 'Em." He hopes more Black artists will find success in the genre going forward.

"I just want to get to a point where it don't feel like we have room for one or two, and it's just music, it speaks for itself," Brown said. "I'm going to keep creating. That's my purpose.

The Black Music Action Coalition released a report in 2022 called "Three Chords & the Actual Truth" about the history of systemic racism in the country music industry. The group's co-founder Willie "Prophet" Stiggers said this was the first Beyoncé album he had listened to from beginning to end and it was "phenomenal."

"What Beyoncé has done I think is remarkable, not only what she has done for herself but the fact that there are six new Black artists streaming on Spotify," Stiggers said. "It's an indication of the audience and the appetite that black people have for country music."

The groundbreaking country music project took over social media and became Spotify's most-streamed album in single day in 2024.

The Innovator Award is given to one artist who continuously contributes to pop culture and the music industry, according to iHeartRadio.

"Few artists in the course of history have taken creative risks, successfully transformed their music and influenced pop culture on the level that Beyoncé has," an iHeartRadio news release stated. "Throughout the years, the global cultural icon has created music that has topped the charts across multiple formats , while also architecting groundbreaking tours, including last year’s RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR — the highest-grossing tour in history for both an R&B artist and a Black female artist."

The award show was hosted by Ludacris and aired on Fox as well as iHeartMedia radio stations worldwide and the iHeartRadio app.

At movie industry convention, leaders say blockbusters alone aren’t enough

LAS VEGAS — Movie theater owners are still feeling the high from “ Barbenheimer .” The counterprogramming of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” brought audiences to cinemas around with the world, ultimately earning nearly $2.5 billion in combined ticket sales. But, gathered in Las Vegas this week for the annual CinemaCon convention and trade show, they’re also acutely aware that they need more than two movies to survive.

“It is not enough to rely solely on blockbusters,” said Michael O’Leary, the president and CEO of the National Association of Theater Owners. “To have a truly successful filmed entertainment industry, a variety of movies that appeal to movie goers is critical.”

That means, O’Leary said Tuesday, “a strong and vibrant market for movies with smaller or medium sized budgets.”

At CinemaCon, Hollywood studios, exhibitors and tech companies come together to preview what’s next in moviegoing, from the films that they hope will get audiences to the theaters to the latest and greatest in snacks, seating and projection. On stage, the message is (by design) optimistic about the future of cinemas and the industry’s capacity for evolution. Whether it’s streaming, piracy, VHS or television, the leaders in the filmed entertainment industry are always quick to remind that their business has survived its share of existential crises: Someone is always forecasting its demise.

O’Leary made a plea to “our friends in the financial industry” to invest more capital into the system, calling it a “smart investment” that benefits “creatives, studios, exhibition, local communities and, most importantly, movie fans.”

“We know that a movie that begins its journey with theatrical exclusivity is more successful in every subsequent ancillary platform,” he added. “This should appeal to people who want as many film fans as possible to see their movies, but also to people that want to make money.”

Studios including Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, Paramount, Disney and Lionsgate will all take the big stage at Caesar’s Palace to show new trailers or footage from their biggest upcoming films, from “Furiosa” to “Deadpool & Wolverine,” sometimes with the help of movie stars, to stoke excitement in the people who will put these films in their theaters.

2023 was a rollercoaster year for movie theaters . The overall box office was up 20% from the previous year in the U.S., surpassing $9 billion. But that’s still $2 billion shy of where the business was pre-pandemic. There were hits, like “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie,” of course, and other notable successes from traditional studios, like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Wonka” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” There were surprises like “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and “Cocaine Bear” and sleepers like “Anyone But You.”

There were also moments of successful innovation, including Taylor Swift and Beyoncé’s groundbreaking partnership with AMC Theaters to release their concert films, circumventing traditional studio middlemen. “ Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour ” made over $260 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing concert film of all time. Toho studios also self-distributed its first film ever, with “Godzilla Minus One,” which made over $114 million worldwide even with a limited release in the U.S.

But there were flops and disappointments too, and some of the tried-and-true genres like superhero movies proved to no longer be the industry supporting tentpoles that they once were. Streamed entertainment continues to be a formidable competitor for eyes and dollars as everyone continues to recover from the pandemic. In 2024, theater owners and studios are also having to grapple with a changed and somewhat depleted pipeline of films following the work stoppage caused by the dual Hollywood strikes.

But O’Leary said that a “great reimagination” is underway.

“Inflection points like these are moments of opportunity,” he added. “And this last year has shown me that the future of this industry—indeed, the state of this industry—is limitless.”

Charles Rivkin, the chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association, talked about the importance of film productions in the U.S., which he said “bolster communities” and account for 2.74 million American jobs. He also made an impassioned plea to combat piracy, which he said costs theaters more than $1 billion at the box office, and hopes to work with Congressional leaders to put for “site-blocking” legislation.

Rivkin closed by quoting best documentary winner and AP journalist Mstyslav Chernov’s Oscars speech from earlier this year , in which he said that “Cinema forms memories and memories form history” while accepting the statuette for “20 Days in Mariupol.”

Chernov’s words, Rivkin said, “Reminded us of the power and impact of what we do.”

Moscow Metro

Introduction of moscow subway system (metro).

Richly Decorated Central Hall of Novokuznetskaya Station

Nowadays the Moscow Metro has 12 lines, light subway and monorail. All stations are unique and beautiful in their own way. Unfortunately, in order to visit them all, you need to spend many days. I invite guests to visit the ones that have the greatest cultural and historical interest from my point of view. Among them are the Revolution Square, Arbatskaya, Kievskaya (Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line № 3); Kievskaya, Belarusskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Komsomolskaya (the Ring line number 5). Let us dwell a bit on each.

Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line

Subway station "revolution square".

Sign “Ploshchad Revolyutsii” in Archway with Bronze Figures

Most recently - in the year 2008-2010 – the Eastern lobby was renovated. Because of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow subway that took place several hours before the planned opening of the East lobby after renovation, the solemn part of the event was canceled.

Subway station Arbatskaya

Subway Arbatskaya is located on the same subway line as the station "Revolution Square." It was founded in 1953. It received the name in honor of the Arbat Street. It has one ground lobby (Western). Initially, the lobby was in a separate building, but the new building of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense started, the lobby appeared to be in its atrium. The old exits were bricked up; a new entrance was built into the building of General Staff of the street Vozdvizhenka. There is a huge frame with a missing portrait in the ground lobby - until mid-1950 there was a portrait of Stalin. According to some reports, it survived, but closed with plaster.

The lobby was restored and partially reconstructed in 2007-2008.

The depth of the station is 41 meters.

Pylons are finished with red marble at the bottom, decorated with bouquets of flowers made from ceramics. The floor is laid out with gray granite. The walls lined with glazed ceramic tiles, white top and black bottom. The station hall is illuminated by massive bronze chandeliers in the form of rings.

Subway station Kievskaya

There are several subway stations "Kievskaya" in Moscow, located on different branches. This name is quite popular. It comes from the capital of Ukraine - one of Russia's nearest neighbors - the city of Kiev. The name is fully consistent with the idea of the subway station. The interior the station devoted to Soviet Ukraine and the reunification of Ukraine and Russia. The station is decorated with a large number of paintings .Twenty four murals depicting workers of Soviet Ukraine are placed on the arch above the pylons. The wall from the side of platform also contains frescos, mainly with images of fantastic plants. Pylons are decorated with light marble and additionally decorated with colorful ceramic cornice. The butt of the station has a large mosaic, depicting festivities to celebrate the 300 anniversary of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia.

Opened in 1953, this subway station for a long time was the final (1953-2003).

The station has one lobby, combined with the station ring line and located in the building of the Kievskaya railway station. The diameter of the central hall station is 9.5 m, the diameter of side one is 8.5 m. The depth of the station is 38 meters.

= Ring Line Subway =

It opened in 1954. The station received its name after the Kiev station, and locked the Ring line. During the construction of the station many projects were proposed, but the victory in the competition won the Kiev architects who made the construction of the station. It is the only station of the Ring Line which is not located in the Central Administrative District of Moscow.

The station has a pylon structure. Eighteen pylons are decorated with mosaic panels of glazes, decorated on the theme of Ukrainian history and friendship between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, which started in the mid-17 century.

On the front wall of the central hall of the station a large panel with molding in the form of flags and a mosaic portrait of Lenin in the center are located. There are lines of the Soviet national anthem around the portrait, and under the portrait - the words of Lenin. One of the ways out of the station was designed by French architects modeled on the Paris Subway in 2006.

At one of the mosaics – “The Struggle for Soviet power in Ukraine "- modern passengers observe a mobile phone and PDA in the hand of one of the guerrillas, and on his knees - a laptop. In fact, he uses a field telephone, which was really a heavy thing (guerrillas holds it in two hands), and thing that people see a laptop is the lid of a box with a telephone. However, these phones have begun to produce only in the second half of the 20-ies of XX century. We must assume that the mosaic depicts a foreign field telephone transmitter.

Subway station Belorusskaya

The founded of the station was in 1952. It received the name after the Belarusian railway station nearby. The station has two ground-based lobbies. The Western one goes to Tverskaya  Zastava. It is decorated with beautiful carvings. The Eastern one leads to Butyrskiy shaft and Forest Street. The Eastern lobby is known for its majolica panels.

The station Belorusskaya is located at a depth of 42.5 m below ground. The diameter of the central hall is 9.5 meters.

Pylons are faced with light marble. The walls lined with white ceramic tiles, the floor is covered with ceramic tiles, gray, white and red colors. Lamps placed on pylons, in the form of vases made of glass and marble. The theme of decoration is economy and culture of Belarus. Decorative pattern on the floor repeats the theme of traditional Belarusian embroidery. Decorations of the ceiling consist of stucco decorations and 12 mosaic panels depicting the life of the Belarusian people.

Subway station Novoslobodskaya

Built in 1952, Subway station Novoslobodskaya got its name from the eponymous street:  the station is located at the very beginning of it.

Novoslobodskaya is pylon station of deep foundation (its depth is 40 m) with three arches.

Exit to the street is through the ground lobby with column portico, located on Novoslobodskaya Street lined with gray marble. Pylons of the underground station are faced with marble from the Urals. Thirty two spectacularly illuminated stained-glasses, placed inside the pylon and bordered by steel and gilt brass are splendid decoration of the station. A remarkable mosaic "World Peace" is located at the end of the central hall. The picture depicts a happy mother with a baby in her arms; it was the face of Stalin at the picture: the child gave a hand to him. But in times of Khrushchev the face of the former leader of USSR was removed from the panel. The walls are lined with bright marble; floor is covered with white and black granite slabs, placed in a checkerboard pattern.

Subway station Komsomolskaya

The station was built in 1952 and named in honor of the Komsomolskaya Square, which is situated nearby.

This subway station is the station of the deep bedding. Its depth is 37 meters. The station has column and three- arched design. Cast iron decoration is used in the construction, monolithic slab used as a tray for a collapsible finishing. The length of the boarding hall is 190 meters; width of it is 10 meters. There are 68 octagonal columns at station.

The main theme of the interior of the station is the fighting of the Russian people for their independence. The ceiling is decorated with eight station mosaic mural made from glazes and precious stones. Six of them represent the Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, Alexander Suvorov and Mikhail Kutuzov, the Soviet soldiers and officers at the walls of the Reichstag.

Two other panels, depicting Stalin ("Victory Parade" and "Presentation of the Guards Banner"), were replaced after the dethronement of Stalin's personality cult in 1963. New panels depict Lenin's speech in front of the Red Guards and the Motherland on the background of the Kremlin's Spasskaya Tower.

The yellow ceiling is decorated with mosaic and moldings. The hall is illuminated by massive chandeliers hanging between the panels; platforms are illuminated with smaller chandeliers. The columns are decorated with marble capitals and trimmed with light marble, as well as the wall station. The floor is laid with pink granite. There is a bust of Lenin at the end of the hall. At the opposite end of the escalator is a large Florentine mosaic of the Order of Victory with red banners on the background. The ground lobby of the station is decorated with bas-reliefs.

In conclusion...

Each of the stations of the Moscow subway is attractive and interesting in its own way. Each has its own long and fascinating history and is beautifully decorated. The Moscow subway is a whole world, which can be talking about for hours. I suggest you short - no more than one hour and a half - and a fascinating journey through the world of the Moscow subway. The pleasure is guaranteed!

How Milwaukee Brewers' American Family Field became one of country's top concert stadiums

highest grossing tours beyonce

In 2023, American Family Field had its biggest year ever for concerts — and it was one of the top-grossing stadiums for concerts in the world.

It may be the new normal.

After hosting four concerts last year — including the first two-night stadium run ever in Milwaukee, with Morgan Wallen, and shows with George Strait and Pink that both broke attendance records — American Family Field is ready to host four more in 2024.

The first two are April 12 and 13, the stadium tour kickoff for country superstar Luke Combs. Kenny Chesney returns in June, this time with Zac Brown Band ; and Green Day is coming in August with the Smashing Pumpkins.

Going forward, depending on routing and the teams' schedule, the Brewers could book four to six major tours a year, predicted Jason Hartlund, who oversees concerts at the stadium as executive vice president — chief commercial officer for the Brewers.

“We’ve really bent over backwards for artists and production teams to be as hospitable and as easy a process (to stage a concert) as possible,” Hartlund said. “That reputation is starting to get out into the marketplace. It’s helped us.”

Last year, it helped 43,000-seat American Family Field become the 19th top-grossing stadium for concerts in the United States, and 35th in the world, according to concert trade magazine Pollstar, ranking prominently among football stadiums with larger seating capacities. The stadium sold 178,107 concert tickets, collectively grossing $35.4 million.

It's a remarkable development for a 23-year-old stadium in a market Milwaukee's size, especially since there are two stadiums in must-play Chicago — the Cubs' Wrigley Field and the Bears' home field (for now), Soldier Field — that routinely draw Milwaukee fans for shows.

But between the growth of the stadium tour sector of the concert industry — and the $500 million stadium funding bill signed into law by Gov. Tony Evers last December — American Family Field's future as a live music destination is promising.

"Philosophically, when we enter into an agreement with a sports team or stadium, we want to know that they want to be good partners," said Charlie Goldstone, co-president of Live Nation-backed Madison promoter FPC Live, which handled the Pink and Wallen concerts last year and is promoting Green Day's this year.

"It's more than just financial. Will they help promote the shows? Will the team be amenable to uses of the field and the locker rooms? When an artist gets there will they feel welcome? … With the Brewers, the answer is always yes."

Years with few concerts at the Milwaukee Brewers' ballpark

For much of the stadium's existence, a big concert each year wasn't a guarantee. After it opened in 2001, Miller Park (renamed American Family Field in 2021) nabbed a few tours its first few years, including Strait, *NSYNC and Bruce Springsteen.

But after 2003, the stadium went a decade without hosting tours, although there were some special events, including Farm Aid in 2010, and birthday bashes for Harley-Davidson and Miller Brewing.

Then in 2013, Kenny Chesney headlined a stadium tour stop at Miller Park for the first time, the beginning of what's become a fruitful relationship with one of the stadium's most reliable promoters, the Messina Touring Group.

In addition to Chesney's headlining shows at the Brewers ballpark in 2016, 2018, 2022 and now this year, Messina brought Ed Sheeran to the stadium in 2018. The promoter also was responsible for Eric Church's second stadium-headlining show ever in 2022, and for the Strait show last year — one of only eight dates the country legend did in 2023 with Chris Stapleton.

In an interview with the Journal Sentinel last year, Louis Messina, head of AEG-backed Messina Touring Group, said doing shows at the stadium was "comfortable" and that the venue itself was "fan-friendly."

"Some stadiums, it's like pulling teeth to do a show there. In Milwaukee, it's not like that," Messina said. "From the top with management all the way down to the groundskeepers, they work with us and make it easy for us to produce shows."

"We're not just another tenant in the building. … That's really important, not only to me and the artists but to my team, box office people, production people — everybody."

After Chesney broke the tour drought, Live Nation, the world's largest concert promoter, put Paul McCartney and One Direction shows in the stadium, in 2013 and 2015.

A gamechanger for Wisconsin concerts in 2018

Then in 2018, Live Nation became a majority stakeholder of long-running Madison promoter Frank Productions, parent to FPC Live — and the Brewers took notice.

"The ballpark said they wanted to be in business, and it opened up a new level of shows that were not coming to the state," FPC Live co-president Scott Leslie said. By that time, touring was a rapidly growing business at other ballparks, Leslie noted, including Wrigley Field and Fenway Park in Boston.

"The Brewers saw that this was being done successfully among their peers, so why not them?" Leslie said.

FPC Live brought the only Billy Joel Midwestern concert of 2019 to American Family Field, and a Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett package to the ballpark in 2022. Aside from when the pandemic derailed the touring industry for most of 2020 and much of 2021, the ballpark has hosted at least one stadium tour every year since 2018, and nearly all of them have been at capacity.

"Success breeds success," Hartlund said. "Where artists may have been hesitant to come to the Milwaukee market in the past, we have a catalog of success that tours can play Chicago and Milwaukee. … And because we have had success with shows in the past people are getting more comfortable moving off weekends."

Last year's Pink show at American Family Field, for instance, was on a Monday — and it stopped at Wrigley Field the prior Saturday. But the Milwaukee date was still a smash, with Pink breaking an attendance record at the stadium, performing for 46,644 people.

Leslie suggests that Pink's past success in the market — her Fiserv Forum show in 2019 was the top-grossing concert at the arena that year — likely gave her team more confidence to book a show in the city's biggest venue.

"With Fiserv Forum, there's a brand-new arena with a high volume of really amazing shows that let the market open up in a bigger way," FPC Live's Goldstone said.

The $524 million Milwaukee Bucks arena opened in 2018, bringing more shows nearly every year than the Bradley Center ever did during a single year. And the American Family Insurance Amphitheater at Maier Festival Park has seen a surge of shows, too, following a $51.3 million renovation, reaching its highest volume since 2004. And even though the amphitheater has nabbed some tour dates routed through other stadiums, Hartlund suggests their booking ability has benefited.

"The rising tide lifts all ships," Hartlund said. "Having a new arena is great for the city, having a revamped American Family Insurance Amphitheater at Summerfest is fantastic. The more shows we put in here, the better."

Stadium concert tours are surging around the world

Hartlund says the Brewers have been more aggressive about concert bookings coming out of the pandemic, driven not just by a desire to grow non-baseball revenue, but a growing comfort that field conditions won't be affected by more events.

And there are significantly more events at stadiums around the globe, which the Brewers are also benefiting from. Grosses from the world’s top 100 stadiums for concerts were up 35% in 2023 to $3.62 billion, according to Pollstar. The number of tickets sold for those tours also increased 22.2% to 29.1 million.

Since touring resumed after the pandemic, Dave Brooks, senior director of live and touring for Billboard, estimates that at least an artist or two in different genres, including country, pop and Latin music, have been able to rise up to the stadium level every year, while some artists have experimented with packages to help fill stadium seats, like Chesney is doing with Zac Brown Band and Green Day with the Pumpkins.

"The financial incentives are obvious," Brooks said. "You can get a much larger audience for the fraction of the price it costs you to do multiple arena shows. The costs are somewhat higher for a stadium concert than an arena show, but the increase in attendance is like double depending on how big the stadium is, and you can make almost double the money."

Promoters also like the "huge consumer marketing databases" that MLB and NFL teams have from selling tickets to their games to help them sell shows, Brooks continued, and fans have shown with their wallets that they don't mind the stadium concert experience.

"The use of video boards and technology makes the concert feel more intimate," Brooks said of more recent stadium tours.

New stadium developments could lead to more concerts

Hartlund is hopeful that the Brewers' new centerfield scoreboard — one of the largest in Major League Baseball — will appeal to some promoters. As of the Journal Sentinel interview, he was unsure if any tours would use the scoreboard this year, but Strait and Stapleton did last year.

And while the team's new QR code-based parking payment system was temporarily suspended due to technical issues for opening day — and will not be in operation for the Combs shows — Hartlund said that, when it's up and running, it will cut down on backups into the ballpark. Traffic into the park has triggered some backlash in the past, most notably for Sheeran's show in 2018, prompting the team to issue an apology.

And then there's the $500 million public-funding plan for the ballpark to support long-term renovations and improvements, which will include "winterizing" the venue so it could operate beyond its typical April-to-October timeframe.

The stadium's retractable roof has already been an asset — Hartlund suggests it was a key reason why Combs opted to kick off the tour there this year — but following renovations, American Family Field theoretically could host concerts in March or November.

And yes, some stadium tours have been routed through the Midwest in November; Stapleton and Strait played the indoor U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis in November 2021, and Joel played the NFL stadium with Stevie Nicks last November.

"Promoters are aware of the plan for that to take place," Hartlund said, although a definitive timeline has yet to be set. "It's all about the comfort levels for the artist and the fans. If the building is winterized and heated to appropriate levels, it's no different from an arena show in November or March."
