There’s nothing about this family-friendly movie that’s outrageously offensive, but there’s nothing about it that’s particularly interesting, well-executed, or inventively conceived either.

...entertaining yet chintzy...

A screenplay that never quite clicks on all cylinders. There are too many scenes dealing with relationships that really halt any momentum.

Journey 2 is simply magical.

Undeniably an exhilarating family friendly, action adventure that'll no doubt thrill younger audiences.

Like its predecessor, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a race against time to survive, but the inclusion of new characters adds a little more interest.

For a family, this is an agreeable Saturday outing, largely because director Brad Peyton doesn't set his sight higher than the material actually is.

"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is light, airy family entertainment that actually ends up being too light and airy.

It's a harmless, lighthearted film with wooden acting, a nice message about accepting your parents-whoever they are-and again, lots of ridiculous CGI.

Journey 3: Why From the Earth to the Moon Didn't Happen

Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon was highly anticipated by fans of the series. Here's why the sequel ultimately didn't happen.

The Journey franchise began with Journey to the Centre of the Earth , and continued with its sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island . Both films were hugely successful, and with the introduction of Dwayne Johnson in the second film, they fast became box office successes, picked up legions of fans, and looked on track to follow the classic film franchise formula for continued success.

Shortly after the success of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island , a following sequel was announced which promised to be even bigger and better: Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon . Unfortunately, this project was paused shortly after, and then the announcement came that the film was no more . Here’s everything we know about the sequel and why it didn't happen.

Script Difficulties and Actor Commitment Issues

One of the first problems that was encountered by the Journey franchise was the curse of a lack of script for developing the project further. Johnson revealed in 2018 that the lack of a solid script was a large reason for his not being involved in the project. There was initial speculation that writers Chad and Carey W. Hayes would be tied to the film. This could have been exciting, given their previous work in films such as The Conjuring and House of Wax , representing the possibility for the script to change to be more mature or have horror themes which were not fully explored before. This creative direction was eventually scrapped for reasons unclear. Naturally, difficulties such as these meant that actors were hesitant to be tied to the project since it didn’t seem to be fully coming into fruition. It would have been interesting, however, to see what direction the Hayes Brothers could have taken the film in.

Dwayne Johnson’s Popularity Surged

Dwayne Johnson first gained huge popularity under his stage name The Rock. He initially appeared as a wrestler for WWE, where he wrestled for eight years and became one of the most famous wrestlers to ever be on the show, developing a huge following and growing in popularity year after year. This led to a continued career in film, beginning in 2002 when he starred in The Scorpion King , which then led to further success, allowing him to leave WWE altogether and act in Hollywood full time.

When Johnson joined the franchise in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island , his career was only just beginning to gain the momentum that it has today. The years following Journey 2 saw Johnson take on several huge projects, like Fast & Furious 6 , Hercules , San Andreas , and Moana , to name a few. It’s clear that his schedule was becoming more and more packed, and without a script for Journey 3 , the possibility of a sequel was put to the back of his to-do list. Despite director Peyton frequently stating in interviews that he did not have any plans for the franchise to end, the lack of Johnson’s presence would have likely thrown a wrench in the plans. Johnson eventually confirmed on Twitter that he would not be returning, which present the ultimate challenge for the film since he was an integral part to its success and general appeal. While responding to his fans, the actor stated that the reason behind the cancelation was the script and his busy work schedule.

There’s an Online Petition for the Project to be Resurrected

Understandably, fans were not happy with the decision for the film to be shelved, and Johnson’s announcement that he would not be returning in 2018 caused even further disappointment. The original director for the film was supposed to be Brad Peyton, and after having huge successes like San Andreas and Rampage , we can understand why fans were sad about missing out on this opportunity. In today’s world, fans have access to the internet and can be very vocal about their upset for these kinds of things. This has resulted in the setting up of a petition, which call for Dwayne Johnson and Brad Peyton to be attached to the film again, which you can find here .

Marvel's First Teased Avengers 5 Death Is Great News For The MCU's X-Men Reboot

The clock is ticking for Avengers 5 's release, and Marvel seems to be taking too long to decide what to do with the MCU 's next crossover event. As of May 2024, Avengers 5 's release date is set as May 1, 2026, having been previously delayed a whole year. Still, little is known about Avengers 5 beyond the assumption that it will gather many of the Multiverse Saga's main heroes , possibly including established Avengers like Doctor Strange, Smart Hulk, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man, as well as newcomers such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Moon Knight.

Avengers 5 's narrative possibilities are endless, which could come as both a blessing and a curse for the 2026 movie. On one hand, Avengers 5 could streamline the MCU's many clashing takes on the multiverse and retroactively improve previous movies that failed to cement their multiversal plots as solid foundations for Phase 6, like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness . Avengers 5's Release Journey Has Hit An Important Milestone

Avengers 5 must begin active development soon if it's still set to release within the next three years.

Avengers 5 has reached May 1, 2024, without any major production updates. If it retains its May 1, 2026 release date, Avengers 5 's development could either need to be fast-tracked soon, or it has already advanced in absolute secrecy. Avengers 5 will likely assemble a group of actors from all over the MCU — a feat that requires plenty of time to achieve. Unlike most guest actors playing multiversal cameos in movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Deadpool & Wolverine , many big-name stars in the Avengers 5 cast may receive an equally large amount of screentime.

In order to guarantee that Avengers 5 is in its best possible state, Marvel Studios needs to invest as much time as possible in the development and pre-production stages.

Recent MCU movies such as Thunderbolts* and Captain America: Brave New World have gone through extensive rewrites and reshoots. A movie the size and scope of Avengers 5 may not be able to do the same, not only because of the budget and logistics issues it would require, but also because the MCU can't afford to release a middling Avengers film after a seven-year wait following Avengers: Endgame 's massive success. In order to guarantee that Avengers 5 is in its best possible state, Marvel Studios needs to invest as much time as possible in the development and pre-production stages.

Marvel Still Has Major Issues With Avengers 5

The mcu's plans for avengers 5 are still very unclear.

Avengers 5 's production has struggled to move forward for a while. First, writer Jeff Loveness, who penned Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania , was let go from Avengers 5 . Shortly after, Avengers 5 was delayed one year, from May 2025 to May 2026 due to the effects of the 2023 Writers' Strike. Meanwhile, Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors' legal issues had put his participation in the movie in jeopardy, leading Marvel Studios to bring the project back to the drawing board.

Soon enough, Marvel officially fired Jonathan Majors, director Destin Daniel Cretton left in order to focus on other projects, and Avengers 5 's subtitle "The Kang Dynasty " was dropped. Since then, only one update has been made public by Marvel Studios: Michael Waldron has replaced Jeff Loveness as Avengers 5 's writer. Otherwise, Avengers 5 approaches with no further news or delays in sight. Avengers: Infinity War began filming in January 2017, a year and three months before its April 2018 release date. Avengers 5 could still qualify for a similar filming schedule if pre-production finishes in the following nine months.

Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were shot back-to-back, and their development process flowed smoothly since their conception some time before Comic Con 2014.

Avengers 5's Build-Up Doesn't Feel Like It's There Yet

The multiverse saga is missing the foundations for the mcu's next avengers movie.

Unlike its Infinity War equivalent, Avengers: Infinity War , Avengers 5 lacks all the foundations to assemble Earth's Mightiest Heroes and begin the Multiverse Saga's conclusion . Most evidently, Phases 4 and 5 haven't featured the Avengers in any capacity, and most of the team's new-generation heroes haven't even met each other yet. The Infinity Saga's The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron set up Thanos' eventual arrival and built the relationships between protagonists like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. The Multiverse Saga has skipped all team-up movies, and instead, killed off Kang in the middle of Phase 5.

After years, the MCU will finally get a new Avengers movie in 2026, and a major death that could impact the X-Men reboot has been teased for the film.

The MCU's Phases 1 through 3 also employed the Infinity Stones to establish a clear throughline that led to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame 's plot. The conflict was clear years before Avengers: Infinity War 's release: Thanos would collect the Infinity Stones, and the Avengers would unite to stop him. At this point in the Multiverse Saga, Avengers 5 's plot is completely unknown. Whether Kang the Conqueror remains dead, the Council of Kangs will ever return, or the multiverse is even at risk is still a mystery two years before Avengers 5 releases in theaters.

Warner Bros. has officially set a release date for Beetlejuice 2 , a long-awaited sequel to the delightfully weird 1988 Tim Burton film starring Michael Keaton as a zany "bio-exorcist." The new movie will arrive in theaters Sept. 6, 2024, the studio announced Tuesday.

Not much else is known about Beetlejuice 2 , but Burton will reportedly reteam with original stars Keaton and Winona Ryder (reprising her role as Lydia Deetz). New cast members are also said to include Burton's Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter and Justin Theroux in an undisclosed role .

The original Beetlejuice starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as recently deceased newlyweds whose spirits remain stuck in their country residence. When the insufferable Deetzes ( Catherine O'Hara , Jeffrey Jones) and their morose teenage daughter (Ryder) move into the house, the ghostly couple summons Beetlejuice to help scare them away.

Warner Bros. officially confirmed that the sequel was in the works during a CinemaCon presentation last month. Beetlejuice 2 is currently slated to open against Marvel's Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali , though it remains to be seen if the superhero flick's recent pre-production pause amid the WGA strike will affect those plans.

Beetlejuice previously inspired an animated TV series, several video games, and a Broadway musical .
