Good game if you can cope with crashes

The game itself is great, challenging without being too difficult. Levelling up requires a lot of ‘silvers’ which you can either buy or watch ads. The ads crash, constantly, or you watch them and never get the rewards. Send a request to support and it’s always the same answer - tell us which ads and we’ll look into it. I say again the game itself is good, but the support is poor - not what you would expect from an affiliated product. 3 weeks on, following on from this review, the game has got even worse for faulty ads. I have to restart the game almost every time I watch an ad. Black screens, no rewards, same answer from tech support - send a screenshot - and nothing ever changes for the better. I say again, the game is good, but the support is non existent, and the quality of ad coding is ridiculously poor. Addition - Just back after a 12 month break and the game is still great. And the ads are still buggy. Crashes game, no rewards. Good to know somethings never change

Developer Response ,

Hello,We are working to look into ads not rewarding as a general problem and get it fixed, but if you're seeing problems with particular ads, if you can send us a screenshot we can focus in on that ad. If you need more help, you can reach us at [email protected] or using the help button in the headset section of the game's settings.Thank you,Concrete Software

Game has changed

Have been enjoying this game for sometime until the latest update. The computer picks the player and then it won’t let you win. If you get a birdie then the computer does and so on. Shots the computer plays with the same club your using goes a lot further than you can do. The wind correction you make on one hole and then on another is so different it can’t be judged even if it’s the same wind strength yet the computer has no problem. It is very frustrating and I’m thinking of changing to another golf game. If you want to advance to the next level you have to gather points I have been on level 7 for months and still nowhere near moving to next level. I’m sure if I buy things then it might move quicker but I play the game for fun. It is no longer fun as I’m playing the same players on the same courses but they both have got harder to beat. Shame because I really liked this game. I would have given it 5 stars but there is no fun anymore. You join a clubhouse and gain points for winning clubhouse challenges one point every time you win however you might win 10 games but never get any points for it so you don’t get to next level it takes months and months to gain enough silver to advance. It’s a shame because the game is fun
Hello,Thank you for playing our game and sharing your feedback. Note that there are no computer players in the game, the matches you play against are matches uploaded from other real players, and we don't force players to win or lose. For the win points, you should get one point per win, until you reach 50 win points for the week, where you'll have to rely on other clubhouse members. If you have more feedback for us or need further help, you can reach us at [email protected] or using the help button in the headset section of the game's settings.Thank you,Concrete Software
Once u understand how to use the clubs it’s very good tbh, holes are good it’s kind of a grind in terms of clubs etc but it is fun playing u just need to understand how the game works better, and what your clubs can achieve. There are things that need to change no social aspect options no decent club function other than pointless duels, if the devs put as much into the play aspect of the game as they do trying to milk cash from you then this game would be a lot better, but they probably have a server run by hamsters on wheels and basic as possible to ram adds and packs down ur throat to milk u like a cow fir a very average game tbh, not enough content to warrant spending cash on this game as it’s just a scam spend millions for a very small chance of anything like all these modern parasitic games on iOS and mobile there just scams with a nice facing, this game could be great if the devs weren’t parasites offering nothing really other then a reasonable game which soon becomes boring and pointless as u see exactly how it works and scant rewards at al, for playing, the tournaments are a scam too starting off at 25 then going up and up to try beat ur score which tells u that there only interested in scamming u out of ur cash not the enjoyment of the player experience, same with the chat and social and club functions why give people that when weee not profiting from it mentality sad but that’s parasites for u
Hello,I'm sorry to hear you didn't care for the game at all. If you have more feedback to share with us, you can let us know at [email protected] or using the help button in the headset section of the game's inbox.Thank you,Concrete Software

Clubs are the primary collectible item in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout , and its biggest gameplay feature.

Each player starts the game with a few clubs and more are granted through the game's tutorial . Additional clubs are collected by opening card packs , buying cards from the Pro Shop , or buying in-app purchase bundles . Some clubs are available to players by default, and additional clubs become available to earn and use as you increase your player level by gaining XP .

  • 5 Special Abilities
  • 6 Club Levels
  • 7 List of Clubs

Each club in the game falls into one of six types , reflecting real-world categories of golf clubs. Each category of club is a particular archetype that determines its general performance on the course, including strengths and weaknesses.

  • Putters are clubs that shoot along the ground and work best near the pin on the green.
  • Drivers work best from the tee and shoot for long distances.
  • Woods are best hit from the fairway for long, straight, accurate shots.
  • Hybrids are a cross between woods and irons, accumulating many of the strengths and weaknesses of both types.
  • Irons shoot for shorter distances but are very versatile and work great in unfavorable terrain .
  • Wedges hit the ball high, but not far, and are typically used near the green to chip in the ball.

Rarities [ ]

Every club has a rarity indicating how easy or difficult it is to collect through various means. A club's rarity doesn't have a direct impact on its stats or performance, and some of the most commonly used clubs by avid players fall into the lower rarities.

The rarities a club can have are:

Each collectible club in the game belongs to one of six fictional manufacturer brands (except for clubs of mythical rarity , which have no brand). Each brand has a persona that its clubs typically fall into. In many cases a particular brand's clubs have properties that make them work well together with other clubs of the same brand. The most lucrative solo challenges require a player to use an entire bag consisting of a single brand's clubs.

  • Corvid clubs specialize in defying physics and wind.
  • Forester clubs gain bonuses depending on their proximity to trees.
  • PALO clubs excel at tackling unfavorable terrain.
  • Ryusei clubs have unique special abilities that enhance themselves and adjacent clubs.
  • Stanchion clubs are among the most powerful, but they can be unpredictable and hard to control.
  • Willoughsby clubs have average stats but get great stat bonuses when used in conjunction with each other.

A club's stats are the primary measure of its performance on the golf course. Most clubs have a power , control , and spin stat, except for putters which only have power and control.

  • Power determines how far a club can hit a golf ball in comparison to other clubs of its type. However, how the power stat affects ball flight distance varies widely among club types. For instance, a driver with a relatively low power stat can still hit a ball much further from the tee than an iron or wedge of the same numerical power.
  • A club's control is a measure of how accurate it is, and affects multiple aspects of hitting the ball. A higher control stat makes it easier to hit a ball accurately, and gives you a better indication of where the ball will actually land when hit. A high control stat will also add more "forgiveness" to badly missed shots, sending them less off-course.
  • Draw and fade is how much you are able to curve the ball's flight path to the left or right of center when hitting. A high draw or fade can be very useful in setting up strong approach shots or curving your ball around aerial obstacles. A club's spin stat affects draw (left curve) and fade (right curve) equally.
  • Groundspin is how much a ball can roll along the course surface after landing. Groundspin is most useful on or around the green when you want to apply a bit of extra distance on a shot, or make sure a shot stops where you want it to. Groundspin often doesn't have a noticeable effect on other terrain types. Top spin (causing a ball to roll forward) is typically much more pronounced than back spin (causing a ball to roll backwards).

Clubs typically excel in only one or two stats out of the three, requiring players to make hard decisions and trade-offs about which clubs to use. Some clubs have very low relative stats overall among clubs in their category, but make up for this otherwise low performance with powerful special abilities .

The stats of a club usually increase at a steady pace as they level up, but the distribution of stats will generally be the same for a low-level club as it will be for a maxed-out club.

Special Abilities [ ]

Every club has at least one special ability, ranging from simple stat boosts to themselves or other clubs, to extreme powers that defy the laws of physics. Some special abilities are shared among clubs of a particular type or brand, while others are completely unique to a single club. Special abilities may affect only the club that holds the ability, clubs adjacent in the bag, clubs in a bag that fit a particular criteria, or all clubs in a bag.

Special abilities may increase in effectiveness over time as a club levels up, or be affected in real-time by factors on the course such as wind, terrain, nearby objects, or the club you hit with last. Some special abilities are locked and not available until a club reaches a certain level.

Some examples of special abilities clubs can have are:

  • Brand Loyalty , giving a bonus to the club based on adjacent clubs in a player's bag that share a brand.
  • Bag Wind Resist , giving additional resistance to the effects of wind on ball flight, no matter which club in the bag made the hit.
  • Control Boost , giving a bonus to the control stat of the immediately adjacent left club.
  • Magnetism , causing the ball to be sucked toward the hole within a certain radius around it.
  • Chain abilities, giving a stat bonus to the next club fitting a certain criteria after hitting with the club that carries the ability.

Club Levels [ ]

Each club is first collected by a player at a certain level based on its rarity, and levels up over time to a maximum level of 12.

Clubs are leveled up by earning a certain number of cards per level, then paying coins to perform the upgrade to the next level. When a club levels up, either its stats or special abilities will increase. A club may also gain new special abilities when it reaches a certain level.

The number of cards and amount of coins required to reach each new level threshold is based on a club's current level and rarity.

List of Clubs [ ]

As of update 2.2.0 , there are 51 total clubs to collect across the different types , rarities , and brands .

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout Guide: Tips, Cheats & Tricks to Level Up Fast

By: Author Sean O'Reilly

Posted on Last updated: April 27, 2019

Any self-respecting fan of golf should know what the PGA Tour is all about. That is why it comes as no surprise that PGA TOUR Golf Shootout has quickly become one of the top sports games since it was launched. Available on Android and iOS platforms, the game lets you experience what it is like to participate in the PGA Tour competition. You can sink birdies and hit holes in one in perfectly manicured courses.

Enjoy the stunningly realistic visuals are you compete in the most respected tournaments in golf. You can hone your skills by taking on the TPC courses in single-player mode while completing multiple Daily challenges. If you’re feeling a bit competitive, you can go against some of the best players around the world in Versus mode. There is a lot of content waiting to be unlocked, and you will need the help of our PGA TOUR Golf Shootout tips, cheats and tricks to get them all for free!

1. What Are Levels For?

You are probably wondering why there is a level system in a sports game like PGA TOUR Golf Shootout. First off, you get to have bragging rights as a veteran player if you have a higher level. More importantly, however, you gain access to more features of the game. Even though the game can be downloaded for free, a lot of its content is locked behind level requirements. You will need to level up quickly in order to fully enjoy everything that the game has to offer.

pga tour golf shootout tips

The level system also isn’t like more other games where you just keep playing and you automatically get experience for nearly every tap you make on the screen. Here you need to level up golf clubs in order to gain experience. You will have to put in a lot of work if you don’t want to spend real money in order to level up.

2. How To Level Up Clubs

If you are familiar with games like Clash Royale , you would be able to understand the club levels more quickly. Clubs are acquired mostly through opening packs. When you open a pack, you will see a countdown timer. You will need to wait until the timer reaches zero in order to get the contents of the pack. You can spend real money to skip the countdown timer, but that would be a waste. Packs contain random cards, so you will need to open up a lot of them in order to get what you need.

To level up a club in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout you need silver coins and enough duplicate cards of that club. You gain experience every time you level up a card, but the costs for the next level also increases. The good news is that you get access to even better clubs while you grind for experience. This makes you stronger while allowing you to unlock more content.

3. Open More Packs

Since the contents of packs are random, you won’t always get what you need to level up your clubs. That is why you need to open up as many packs as you can. If you have unlocked Challenges, you should complete all that you can in order to get more packs. Some Challenges reward you with packs that can be opened instantly. You should also check on your Clubhouse rewards for more packs.

If you are tired of waiting around for packs to open, you can speed up the process by spending premium currency. You get some premium currency for free from time to time, so you won’t have to spend real money. A better way to speed up packs, however, is by watching video advertisements.

4. Claim Your Freebies

When you have free time, you should drop by the in-game store. You can watch video advertisements from the store in order to get some freebies. Tap on the Free Rewards button at the bottom of the screen to watch the ads. This is an easy way to gain resources needed for upgrading your clubs. Try to watch a few videos every day in order to maximize your resource gain. You can watch up to five ads per day, and we recommend that you watch all of them because you get premium currency after the fifth video.

pga tour golf shootout tricks

Another freebie that you can get your hands on comes every 24 hours. You can claim this from the game’s main screen, and it can be opened without having to wait for timers. Even if you don’t have time to play for the day, make sure you still try to log in every 24 hours to claim your free reward.

Finally, you get free packs whenever you win in Versus mode. These are timed packs, so make sure you open them up as soon as you can. You should also set an alarm in order to claim them as soon as their timer is done. You can only have one pack queued up to open at any given time. That means every second that there isn’t a new pack queued up is wasted.

5. Improve Your FedEx Cup Rank

Gold is the premium currency in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout. Every pack you open has a small chance of containing some Gold. We also mentioned earlier that you can get some more gold by watching five ads per day. If you want more Gold, however, you will need to increase your FedEx Cup Rank. You can do this by simply playing more matches against other players. The game gives out rank rewards at the end of each season. The reward pack you get improves every 10 ranks. The better the reward, the more cards, coins, and Gold you will get when the season ends.

6. Play In Solo Mode

Everyone wants to play live PVP games, but there is some benefit to playing in solo mode. Aside from providing you a good way to practice your shots, you also earn a decent amount of loot in clearing single-player stages. This will help you level up more clubs and raise your player level even faster. Remember, the key to leveling up is getting as many resources as you can, even if it means playing against the AI once in a while.

7. How To Win Matches

How good you are in the game influences how fast you level up since you need to keep winning in order to get more cards, coins, and Gold. While the game relies heavily on skill, there are still a few things you can do to improve your chances of winning matches. First off, understand how the game works. Before you take a shot, you will need to choose a club. The game sets a default one for you, but you can choose a different one if you like. The game’s recommendation is usually a solid choice, so switch only if you know what you’re doing.

Once you have a club selected, you can drag on the ball to get a bird’s eye view of the course and see where your ball will most likely go. Keep in mind that wind and other conditions can still affect the final position of your ball. You can also influence the behavior of the ball by choosing where to first touch it before you drag. Touching the top side of the ball will give it a topspin, allowing it to bounce and roll when it lands. Touching the bottom side will make it roll backwards depending on the surface it touches.

pga tour golf shootout guide

Clubs also have a great impact on your gameplay. That’s the whole point of collecting them and leveling them up. They have different basic stats and special abilities. Make sure you pay attention to the descriptions before making your choice. You should also have multiple bags assembled, so you can switch between them depending on the kind of course you get. For example, if you are up against a narrow par 3 course, you should pick a Driver with higher accuracy. Power isn’t needed as much since it’s a smaller course. Packing bags with clubs that are designed for specific courses make it easier for you to gain the upper hand during a match. You get to have two bag slots for free. If you have the extra currency, you can unlock even more. For now, you can stick to one bag for smaller courses, and another for bigger ones.

A final tip for winning more games is to stop yourself from getting tilted. Golf is just as much a mental game than anything else. If you get a bad shot, don’t give up right away. If you’re lucky, your opponent might mess up even worse, giving you a chance to catch up. Even if you don’t win, you still have the chance of getting a tie. The game gives out Tie Tokens which gives you the chance to earn better packs if you win next time.

Leveling up in PGA TOUR Golf Shootout is easy, especially when you rely on the tips, cheats and tricks we have listed above! If you have anything to add, don’t hesitate to let us know using the comment box below!

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout cheats, tips - How to level up and FAST

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout cheats, tips - How to level up and FAST

Unlock the Clubhouse, Challenges and more

PGA Tour has landed on Android and iOS, and it brings golfing glory to players wherever they are. And online too, against other players. It’s always so good to assert your dominance online.

PGA Tour offers quickfire golf rounds that you can play while waiting in a queue, and it’s loads of fun too. Right here, we offer you the essential tips you need in order to level up fast.

Levelling up in important in PGA Tour, as you need to do it to earn better golf clubs, and access challenges in addition to the Clubhouse.

Why you need to level up, and why it’s hard

PGA TOUR Golf Shootout

Levelling up is essential to progression in PGA Tour, especially when you first start. When you first boot up the game all you’ll get is your basic tutorial, but only when you get to level three will you unlock a Clubhouse, and much more.

Not only that, but the larger variety of clubs will be locked off to you until you level up. Damn, it can be frustrating having such a barebones game.

Once you get to level three things will open up much faster, which is why this guide is here. Obviously.

Levelling up should be obvious too, but in reality, it’s not that simple. You should just be able to play games online and get experience, right? Wrong. You’ll need to level up clubs in order to get experience.

This makes things awkward, as you’ll need to open card packs to earn the necessary cards to level up, and of course, card packs are on timers which prevent you from opening them quickly unless you pay up premium currency. Very cheeky.

This makes levelling up a bit more awkward than you would like, but with these tips you should be able to level up pretty quickly and efficiently.

1 Better clubs

Okay, so you need better golf clubs, we’ve already mentioned that. To level them up you’ll need some silver coins, in addition to enough cards to level up the clubs.

You should of course level up clubs as often as possible to get more experience, and naturally, you’ll get access to even more cards and clubs as you level up.

This can make it tougher to get the cards you want, but it’ll all make you stronger in the end.

2 Open packs

Okay, so we need to open packs now. You can of course open packs by queueing them up and opening them one by one, but this is slow.

Make sure to grab your Clubhouse rewards whenever you can, and solve all of the challenges available to you. Some will give you card packs to open instantly instead of waiting around.

Don’t hesitate to use a bit of premium currency to speed up card pack openings early in the game. If you haven’t got access to challenges yet, it’s the best way to level up quickly. You can also speed up card pack opening times by watching ads.

3 Free rewards

On the store page you will find multiple rewards you can get for watching ads.

Yep, if the game isn’t pushing you towards premium currency, it’s adverts. But honestly, the rewards are worth it if you want to improve your equipment quickly.

I never want to recommend watching ads to players, but in this case, with the limited options available, you should be watching those ads every single day.

Expert Picks: Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Expert Picks

Change Text Size

How it works: Each week, our experts from PGATOUR.COM will make their selections in PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf. Each lineup consists of four starters and two bench players that can be rotated after each round. Adding to the challenge is that every golfer can be used only three times per each of four Segments.

Aside from the experts below, Golfbet Insider Rob Bolton breaks down the field at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in this week's edition of Power Rankings .

Betting picks

WILL GRAY (Lead, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winners: Nick Taylor/Adam Hadwin (+2800) – Two proven TOUR winners that will be looking to channel some good Presidents Cup vibes. I remain impressed with Taylor’s grasp of clutch moments and think these two could have the right resolve in crunch time.
  • Top 10: Taylor Moore/Matthew NeSmith (+300) – An eye-catching price on a pair that finished T4 here each of the last two years and now has double the margin for error to still cash a placement bet.
  • Longshot: Dylan Wu/Justin Lower (+6600) – Lower is someone that I think is trending toward a breakthrough, including a T4 finish last week in Punta Cana while Wu has been largely solid this spring.
  • H2H: Taylor/Hadwin (-110) over Sepp Straka/Brice Garnett – Like Matt, I’m going to run it back with my winner’s pick in the head-to-head market as I’ll happily back the Canadians over a duo that has been more erratic in recent weeks, particularly Garnett outside of his Puerto Rico win.

BEN EVERILL (Senior writer, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winners: Schauffele/Cantlay (+450) – I’m not a fan of advocating these short odds but this smells of a few years ago where these two can play their way back into full confidence ahead of the rest of the season.
  • Top 10: Nicolai Højgaard/Rasmus Højgaard (+210) – One of three sets of brothers in the field this one brings firepower and winning gravitas from the DP World Tour. This is a preview for future Ryder Cups …
  • Longshots: Pierceson Coody/Parker Coody (+10000) – Let’s keep the brotherly love going. They have the teamwork side of things down pat and many a good judge from the lower leagues of golf suggest these two are stars in the making with clearly a good pedigree in the sport.
  • H2H: Højgaard/Højgaard (-110) over Matt Fitzpatrick/Alex Fitzpatrick – As good as Matt Fitzpatrick is, I’m still waiting to see more from Alex. He was awesome at The Open Championship last year but struggled a bit in this event leaving me to trust the Højgaards.

CHRIS BREECE (Senior content manager, Golfbet)

  • Winners: Schauffele/Cantlay (+450) – It’s one of those weeks where I feel like overthinking things is a bad idea. Both players have shown they are making progress towards getting back to the top of their games. Both are also hungry for a win. With so many random pairings out there, I’m willing to take the short odds.
  • Top 10: Collin Morikawa/Kurt Kitayama (+115) – Morikawa has gotten things figured out. Though Kitayama hasn’t lived up to the standards of his Arnold Palmer Invitational win presented by Mastercard last year, he’s playing consistent golf right now with a Top 40 in nine of his 10 starts in 2024.
  • Longshot: Nick Hardy/Davis Riley (+5500) – The winners here last year. They’ve proven they love the team format and will find that spark again.
  • H2H: Taylor/Hadwin (-110) over Straka/Garnett – The pair finished second last year. Taylor has a win this year. Hadwin has two top-fives in his last six starts.

MATT DELVECCHIO (Social content manager, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winners: Davis Thompson/Andrew Novak (+4500) – It’s hard to find a pairing where both players are in good form. Novak was red hot in February and Thompson has had solid showings late March through early April. I trust the two of these guys will be able to lean on each other's ball-striking and put up a ton of birdies.
  • Top 10: Corey Conners/Taylor Pendrith (+225) – Both of the Canadian pairings have a lot to like but I’ll lean Conners/Pendrith over Taylor/Hadwin.
  • Longshot: Garrick Higgo/Ryan Fox (+6600) – The hope is that Fox can motivate Higgo to put together some great scoring this week. Fox has obviously been great recently, it's Higgo who is the wild car. I trust the team format brings some good play out of him.
  • H2H: Thompson/Novak (+105) over Doug Ghim/Chan Kim – Running back my winner in the matchup (could come back to hurt me).

The Q at Myrtle Beach proves YouTube Golf is helping grow the game

YouTube Golf is here to stay as “The Q at Myrtle Beach” pulled massive numbers to prove how beneficial and entertaining golf can be.

YouTube Golf, Myrtle Beach Classic, The Q at Myrtle Beach

As the new kids on the PGA Tour block, The Myrtle Beach Classic garnered attention with a different approach through YouTube Golf.

They held a 16-player, 18-hole shootout qualifier between eight professional golfers and eight YouTubers. The winner earned a spot in the new PGA Tour tournament field.

Incorporating one of the fastest-growing parts of the game was an incredible idea.

Dubbed “The Q at Myrtle Beach,” the video was filmed in early March, but the winner was unknown until Tuesday when Play Golf Myrtle Beach posted it.

The YouTubers who participated in the shootout were Grant Horvat, Peter Finch, Micah Morris, Luke Kwon, Dan Rapaport from Barstool’s ForePlay Pod, Nic Stubbe, better known as Fat Perez of Bob Does Sports, George Bryan of Bryan Bros Golf and Cole Lantz of BustaJack.

The video went live at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 23.

Since its premiere, it has amassed over 520,000 views.

Play Golf Myrtle Beach's channel has just 11,000 followers. Most of its videos get 1,000 views or less.

Yet, when they utilized YouTubers, the channel pulled massive numbers—we are talking millions of social media impressions across the 10 videos they made.

Was it a perfect production? No, but it is YouTube. To put it simply, the product met the expectations.

The 90-minute video could have been condensed to make it even more attractive, but the views speak for themselves.

It provided people a look into YouTube Golf and why so many enjoy it.

More YouTube Golf involvement with PGA Tour?

This will likely be just the beginning of incorporating more of this element into the game.

YouTube Golf is part of the future. It is great for golf and growing the game. Having that many eyes on a qualifier is massive. Play Golf Myrtle Beach took a risk, and it paid off.

Overall, it was a smart risk to take.

I give it an A- because some changes could have been made. The videography could have been better, and the editing could have been cleaner.

Regardless, the idea should change people's perspective on golf content can be consumed and how vital YouTube Golf will be for the longevity of the game.

No, it is not traditional, but these guys love the same game as traditionalists — they just do it differently. Look at Bryson DeChambeau and how he has elevated his brand by creating a channel.

He understands the value of YouTube for not just his personal brand, but how it can benefit the game as well. DeChambeau has even had some of the YouTube participants on his channel.

Coming out of the pandemic, golf saw in explosion in popularity. Much of that has been at younger age demographics. Those same demographics utilize social media like YouTube to consume content and there are tens of millions of them.

The PGA Tour should examine this campaign and not write it off. Leadership should find ways to incorporate YouTube Golf to attract more young viewers.

Once again, Masters television ratings were in decline on CBS. There is a growing shift in how people consume media and sports. It is incumbent upon the PGA Tour and governing bodies of the sport to do what is best for the future of the game.

For those fans who are still against YouTube Golf, buckle up because it is not going anywhere.

YouTube Golf is not a fad. These guys produce quality golf content, and they deserve respect. Entertainment is part of golf, and they give it to the masses.

Embrace them and check out their content because this element of the game will need to be included for golf to continue to thrive.

Who is the new ‘kid’ on the Korn Ferry Tour? We found out

Miles Russell tips his cap on the 18th green during the final round of the LECOM Suncoast Classic on Sunday in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

Getty Images

ARLINGTON, Texas – Miles Russell, the 15-year-old golf whiz kid, made headlines on the Korn Ferry Tour last week — the youngest player ever to make a 36-hole cut and record a top-20 finish — but when he arrived at the Veritex Bank Championship Korn Ferry event this week, he was undone by the twin challenges of securing a rental car and locking up a housing arrangement.

“It’s good he needs me for that; they certainly don’t need me for golf,” joked his dad, Joe Russell, a Florida senior living developer, who is here this week along with caddie and longtime instructor Ramon Bescansa.

Of course, dad picked up the check for a Tuesday night dinner at a local Pappadeaux, but other than that, he was resigned to applying sunshine on the range while his son and Bescansa honed their craft next to other players, some more than twice the teen’s age.

Miles Russell, a high school freshman, finished T20 at the LECOM Suncoast Classic last week, and the top-25 finish qualified him for this week, his second Korn Ferry Tour event. He tees off at 2:43 p.m. local. A surprise? Maybe. But Russell’s list of accomplishments are longer than his slightly built 5-foot-7 frame.

The AJGA’s top-ranked junior, he broke Tiger Woods’ record as the youngest player ever to win AJGA Player of the Year and was the youngest ever to win the Junior Players Championship. He captured the Junior PGA Championship by seven shots, played in the Junior Ryder Cup and was named to the first USGA Junior National team. And don’t forget his 17 Florida Junior Golf Tournament wins and upcoming PGA Tour exemption for the fall Bermuda tournament.

Although there’s still room for improvement — at least in some areas.

“I got to get better (with autographs),” he said. “I’ve got to get a lot faster.”

With his bulky TaylorMade staff bag (with his name on it) an NIL deal and promising future, he seems like the typical modern junior golfer, although he’s old school in the fact that he refuses to wear ear buds when he warms up.

“I prefer to hear the sound of the ball coming off the club,” he said.

Several putters from the 2024 Ping putter line arranged on a golf course

Ping adds 6 new designs to 2024 putter line: Everything you need to know

Both his PGA Tournament mentor, Steve Wheatcroft, who was a member at Russell’s home course, Atlantic Beach Country Club, and Bescansa, have emphasized that no matter how bright his future is, there will be struggles along the way. Wheatcroft also taught him something that could come in handy down the road — the art of trash talk and money games.

“Weathie!” Russell said, when thinking about their sessions together. “He took some money from me and then it turned around and I took some from him.”

Added Atlantic Beach head golf pro Richard Podwalski: “Steve would dog him and trash him and make him tougher. That was his job and he did it well.”

Around Atlantic Beach, Russell’s already made a name for himself.

There was the albatross on the par-5 6th hole last summer, where he holed a 5-wood from 239 yards, only the second in recent club history. (“He was too young to buy drinks after that, so we gave him a piece of framed artwork,” Podwalski said.) He’s already shot 29 multiple times on the front nine of the par-72 course; his low is 62, and Podwalski says 59 isn’t unrealistic. And of course, they’re still talking about his shot during the annual Black Friday shootout last November.

Russell put his tee ball on the 9th directly behind a tree in the right rough, just six inches from the tree roots. No matter. He opened a 3-iron, sent the ball skyward around the tree, curved it and landed it right next to the green. The gallery was stunned; Tour players Doc Redman and Vince Covello shook their heads in amazement.

“I’ve been playing tournament golf for 30 years,” Covello said, “and that’s the greatest shot I’ve ever seen.”

It’s not uncommon to see Russell practicing alone in a bunker for hours or chipping off the cart path. Joe Russell quit playing against his son long ago, but his final match was a memorable one.

“It was the year Tiger and Phil played in The Match on TV, and we decided to have our own match as well,” he said. “He went back to the back tees (at age 11) and he beat me by 10 shots. I said that’s it, I’m done.”

Russell has even learned how to turn a rare disappointment into a positive. In 2016, he shot a six-under 30 in a U.S. Kids regional event, only to lose by a single shot to good friend Graden Lomax, who shot 29. But instead of getting bitter and losing a friendship, he got better, forming the Florida Sunshine Cup with Lomax, where elite junior players come together for a day of fundraising for local charities, including the Nicklaus Family Children’s Hospital, which has raised $300,00 in the last five years.

“It started as a dream, but it has turned out great,” Joe Russell said.

A lot like his first Korn Ferry Tour start.

IRISH PGA Tour star Shane Lowry has revealed a huge personal target for the summer.

The 37-year-old was speaking ahead of this week's Zurich Classic in New Orleans as he teams up with Rory McIlroy for the only team event on the tour's schedule.

Shane Lowry is aiming for a podium position this summer in Paris

Clara ace Lowry was asked about his goals for the Olympic summer games in Paris as he revealed a 'bucket list' career target.

Prior to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, golf had featured on the Olympic programme on just two occasions: in 1900 and 1904.

The sport made its Olympic comeback in Brazil and was contested again at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021 - in which Lowry and McIlroy both played.

2018 Ryder Cup venue, Golf National, will host this year's Olympic golf tournaments, and Offaly ace Lowry has set an Olympic medal high on his list of priorities.
