Fraud by Reliance Travels and Qatar Airways

I wanted to book specific seats in Business Class but the on-line booking wasn't working so I requested a call back. I was called by Reliance Travel working as an agent for Qatar Airways. They took details of my required seats for four flights and also took my payment. A few days later I got confirmation of the seat allocations. Only one flight was booked as requested. Two flights had different seats booked and and one had no reservation made at all. I have tried to resolve through Reliance Travel but they blame Qatar Airways. I have tried to resolve through Qatar Airways with no response initially. I then raised with them as a fraud. I have had an automated response to this but no resolution. All this started back in October 23. What appalling service! I shall be taking further.

Proper travel agent hero

Lee is my hero when it comes to travelling now. It’s so much easier to go to him when I need travel arrangements, instead of trawling through hours of internet searches looking for flights. Great service from David T

I dealt with David T who I found to be very professional and so helpful getting me the flights times I needed. He did give me good prices for 2 separate Emirates return flights. He was extremely thorough taking all the relevant details for these trips and was an absolute pleasure to deal with - 10 ******** really. Reliance Travel & Tours supposedly promotes quality, experience and best-in-class service in order to obtain the most valuable asset of all – customer satisfaction. However, after our brief experience with Reliance Travel & Tours in Turkey, the quality of services provided by Reliance Travel was of great disappointment to most of us. Not only did we pay a substantial amount of tour fares to Reliance Travel & Tours, in return we faced significant frustrations, anger and disappointment almost on a daily basis during the tour.

We were extremely shocked when we checked in to the hotel on the first night. The hotel was no better than a backpacker’s hostel. After putting the luggage in the room, we could hardly move around. There was no hot water for showering after two long days of travel. The first night of accommodation at this hotel was extremely disappointing to start off the tour.

Subsequently, the hotel accommodation at other cities was again not up to our expectations. One hotel did not even have hot water for showering. The running cold water would stop abruptly and most of us could not complete our showers.

Another hotel we stayed in did not have air-conditioning. The hotel room was not clean and had an unbearable smell. I found a bed bug on my bed when I woke up the following morning. My wife also found a bug crawling on her arm. The breakfast provided by this hotel was very miserable. Furthermore, a few of us found mold in a few individual butter small packs.

Finally, we thought we could have more comfortable accommodation in Istanbul towards the end of our tour, but again, the rooms were very small and gloomy. Some of us had to request for room change. A shower room in one of the bedrooms was without a sliding glass door. After taking a shower, the whole bathroom was soaking wet. Furthermore, there was no place to hang towels.

Overall the quality of hotel accommodation for this tour was appalling and not up to our expectations. In most hotels, no proper toiletries were provided. As a standard of service, we expect Reliance Travel & Tours to provide better quality tourist class hotels as part of the tour package. This poor experience completely polarizes the promise of Reliance Travel & Tours to ensure customer satisfaction.

The food served during our trip was not a good representation of the cuisine that Turkey had to offer. We found that the quality of food served was below our expectations.

We could not believe that the mineral water served for lunch or dinner was such a big thing throughout our tour. A 1.5 litre of water was to be shared by 4 people, sometimes 6. Any additional water requested would be charged to the members. After a tiring day, a 1.5 litre of water was just about enough for 2 people.

We spent too much time travelling by coach especially the 11 hours of travel from Pamukkale to Cappadocia . There was no briefing from Reliance Travel & Tours before the tour and there was also no information given verbally or stated in the itinerary that after flying for 11 hours on the plane , we would be travelling on the road for another 11 hours on the second day! Reliance Travel & Tours had failed to warn customers of the long journey by bus where we ended up spending too much time on the road.

Though it was educational to visit Leatherware, jewellery, pottery and carpet outlets, we spent too much time at these places. We could have spent more time at the historical attractions or check in to hotel earlier.

Many of us chose not to join the Cruise optional tour. For those who did not join this optional tour, we were checked in to a hotel with free time to wander for about five hours until the bus picked us up for dinner. Furthermore, we were not allowed to rejoin the rest of the members to go to the Spice Market and Tak Sim Square after the cruise tour, which was a major disappointment. It felt like this was a tactic to coerce customers to pay extra to join the cruise in order to be able to visit the Spice Market and Tak Sim Square. Why were we not told earlier that the cruise tour was inclusive of visits to Spice Market and Tak Sim Square? We found out later that the Spice Market was only 5-8 minutes walk from the boat jetty. Why were we sent to the hotel in the early afternoon instead of dropping us off at the jetty and let us explore ourselves around the Spice Market area before rejoining the group?

The cost of joining the cruise was USD60 per person. While we were on the cruise , a man came up and offered us drinks (Coke, Orange Juice, Lemonade, etc). All of us took the drinks and drank thinking they were free. To our utter disbelief and disappointment, we were charged for the drinks. We could not believe that for USD60, we did not even get a free drink or given even a small bottle of water on a private boat. After we got off from the boat, we could see the boat ride for the public was only USD9.

The farewell or last day dinner at that restaurant was appalling and the food was inedible. As a result, many of us left this restaurant still feeling very hungry and dissatisfied. In addition, the restaurant was so crowded and seating arrangement was bad. We could hardly see the dance performers as we were blocked by huge pillars.

In summary, we had a most disappointing and frustrating experience with our recent tour of Turkey with Reliance Travel & Tours. We feel that we have paid substantial travel fares in exchange for suboptimal hotel accommodation and services, which did not make our holiday experience worthwhile.

Upon our return to Malaysia, we have written a letter to The Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Travel & Tours but he did not even have the courtesy to acknowledge our letter. This shows he did not take our complaints seriously and could not be bothered to respond to our letter. How could they claim and honour their commitment to their brand values “TRUST, SPEED, CHOICE”.

Sorry to hear it but this is why most people on the TripAdvisor forums do not bother with package tours and plan and organise their vacations themselves

Package tours = you have no control over accommodation, transportation, schedule, places you visit and who you travel with. You spend most of your time in a bus with 20 other strangers, and visit many places superficially with short-stops at each venue and you have the usual paid factory / souvenir shop visits in the itinerary.

Sounds like a disaster all round. It would be helpful if the Turkish agent was also identified as all tours have to have a local Turkish operator with them and a lot of this appears to be local input.

Just to share with you that i went for the same tour 10D7N Marvelous Turkey 24Dec 2011 and Return on 01Jan 2012 with Reliance Travel & Tours.

1) Local Tour Guide Mr.Bora was very knowledgeable and courteous.

He can explain so much Historical information about each site that we visited.

Me & my wife called him "History Professor".

2) Hotel were small but clean. Istanbul Hotel Grand Halic Hotel was "Fantastic". This Hotel is very near to Taksim Square .

3) Most of the meals were "Buffett" Style with wide variety of choices i-e Rice, Fish, Vegetables. We had Lunch at cave Restuarant which was unique.

4) My Trip was in December & we really do not drink a lot of water. However there were Complimentary water bottles in our Coach

(2 bottles per day per person which we hardly finish).

5) We were Traveling on Luxury 48 seater Coach (Mercedes Benz) with water heating facility. We even prepared Coffee, Maggi Mee and Milo during our Journey. The Local guide arranged for us "Paper Cups" FOC.

The whole group was like having a "Picnic" on bus, it was amazing experience for all of us.

6) Travel Journey is Long but we do not feel bored because on the way we visited many places. There is so many Historical sites to visit. We loved it.

We have many shopping stops on Highways.

7) On last day one of the tour member have Diaheara and local guide has arranged Doctor to come personally to Hotel and give medicine etc.

The Tour member paid Euro120 for medical treatment but as Reliance Travel offered complimentary Travel Insurance.

When we came back to Malaysia, Reliance Travel promptly process the insurance and Claim was approved by Chartis without any hassle.

8) We visited some leather factories and bought 02 pieces for myself & wife as the price & quality is "Genuine".

9) Last day there was Belly dance at a popular Night Club together with Dinner. The belly dance show was "full House".

We always travel with Reliance Travel & Tours to few countries and we feel confident them.

We feel secured by booking with Reliance Travel and we are not afraid about our money. So many cheating cases happened with other travel agents except Reliance Travel & Tour.

If sometimes there is any small issues in their Tours, Reliance Travel will promptly entertain our complaint.

We are happy and confident by booking with Reliance Travel & Tours as this is the only established Travel firm in Malaysia.

Great service from David T

I dealt with David T who I found to be very professional and so helpful getting me the flights times I needed. He did give me good prices for 2 separate Emirates return flights. He was extremely thorough taking all the relevant details for these trips and was an absolute pleasure to deal with - 10 ******** really. He even said he’d contact me again when I needed to check in which is really helpful. It was especially refreshing to deal with a pleasant person too rather than a blinking automated service.
