Ringo Starr announces North American tour dates for May and June 2022

The All-Starr Band features a returning Edgar Winter and Colin Hay

ringo all starr band tour 2022

Ringo Starr is set to return to the road with his All-Starr Band in mid-2022, touring North America for the first time in nearly three years.

Joining Starr on the road will be long-serving guitarist Steve Lukather of Toto , saxophonist Warren Ham, bassist Hamish Stuart and drummer Gregg Bissonette.

Men At Work ‘s Colin Hay is also set to participate in the tour, providing guitar and vocals, as is a returning Edgar Winter. The prolific musician – who provides keyboards, saxophone and backing vocals – has not performed with the All-Starr Band since 2011.

Starr – who celebrated his 81st birthday last year – last released a solo album, ‘What’s My Name’, in 2019. Since its release, Starr has shared two EPs in 2021, ‘Zoom In’ and ‘Change the World’ . A review of the former saw NME  describe it as “the sort of upbeat, unrelenting jollity we expect from Ringo”.

“Well-meaning and positive, ‘Zoom In’ is the aural equivalent of wishing somebody a ‘Happy Hump Day!’ over email, while wearing a daft grin,” the review read. “For all its flaws, this is a hard record to hate.”

Away from his solo work, Starr was recently enlisted by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder to perform on his forthcoming solo album ‘Earthling’.

ringo all starr band tour 2022

Ringo Starr will tell you with a grin that he’s really good at hanging.

He might go for a walk on the beach with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather , a member of his All-Starr Band for a decade, given the appropriate location. Or engage in some of his other talents, such as painting or photography. Of course, the gym always beckons the Beatles icon, a seemingly ageless 82 .

“I don’t like that word, ‘rest,’ ” he says.

On this day, Starr is checking in from a hotel room in Florida, where the legendary drummer and his All-Starr Band – Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Hamish Stuart, Warren Ham, Gregg Bissonette and Lukather – are playing a round of shows on the tour that runs through October.

Starr is disappointed that rain and lightning have thwarted his beach strolling plans, but the eternally chipper,  “peace and love” -spouting musician is happy to talk about his third extended play in two years – cleverly titled “EP3” – a four-song release featuring Lukather, Linda Perry and Dave Koz.

Paul McCartney turns 80: Here are his 80 best songs, ranked

Question: You are in amazing shape. What kind of regimen do you adhere to?

Answer: I go to the gym a lot. I work out to get my heart racing to shift the stuff that gets jammed in your arteries. I’m a vegetarian and I (drum) when we’re on tour. If I’m at home, I’m painting, I’m doing something. I have two ways: I’m busy or I’m not. I can handle both of those; it’s the bit in the between that gets you crazy. ... Just keep moving as much as you can. If you’re in the gym, you’re on the treadmill and lifting weights and you have a program. When I get back to LA, I have my trainer three times a week. I work out nearly every weekday, sometimes six days a week. How hard is it to go and do something good for yourself for an hour?

The four songs on the new EP all have an element of positivity and hope, especially “Let’s Be Friends.” Did you look around at the world at the moment and think, OK, let’s try to find some unity here?

I think I looked around the world many years ago. I think we, as far as I and the band were concerned, started looking in the ’60s in San Francisco with the hippies and we wanted a lot of peace and love. Every song I’ve done on this EP leads to peace and love. I was offered songs that I didn’t like the attitude of the song, so I didn’t (record it).

'They weren't breaking up': Peter Jackson's 'Get Back' doc defies Beatles history

I’m not sure people would expect to hear Dave Koz with you. How did it come about to have him on the album?

Dave Koz is getting me a lot of publicity (laughs). He’s America’s premiere sax player. (“Free Your Soul”) is quite a long track and we felt like jamming through it. When Dave came in, it worked perfectly.

Do you think you’ll add any of the new songs to the setlist on this current tour?

No. I used to say (in concert), “I’d like to thank the five of you for buying my CD” (laughs). People are there to see me from the Beatles days and (hear) the Beatles songs and some songs through the rest of my life. This year for the first time, we’re doing “Yellow Submarine” and I put in “Octopus’s Garden.” I never wanted to do two underwater songs. But the audience, thank you, Lord, they love it.

You’ve been doing the All-Starr Band tours for 30-plus years. Did you ever envision it going on this long and with this type of variation in musicians?

It was a good idea in 1989. Someone asked somebody to ask me, would Ringo go on tour? I didn’t have a band but I said yes. Then I said, “What have I said yes to?” So I had to start calling people like Dr. John and Billy Preston and Levon Helm. The first band had three drummers. I was so insecure. … But then everybody was saying yes. I had to close up my phone book. Then I decided we’re going to change the whole band every time. You have to have hits (to be in the All-Starr Band), that’s part of the deal. I’ve had some really incredible players and several who didn’t want to put in 100%.

And they were not invited back?

What’s it like backstage before you all go on? Any rituals?

We all get backstage and the band runs on and then I have 30 seconds of fear.

Really, still?

Still! It’s so far out. It's like, oh, God, it’s not going to work. My brain takes over. That’s why I run on stage. My aim is to be Frank Sinatra and just stroll on, like (affects a smooth-crooner-with-cocked-eyebrow voice), “Hey, how are you doing?” I saw him once and I wish I could do that. He started singing behind the curtain, so relaxed. He was so great. I still haven’t managed to do that. I have a moment of fear and then I run on and as soon as I grab that mic, I’m home. It all just fades away and we’re there to have fun.

Ringo Starr's All Starr Band to kick off 2022 tour in Rama, Canada; Edgar Winter rejoins lineup

ringo all starr band tour 2022

Ringo Starr has unveiled updated plans for his 2022 North American tour with his All Starr Band that include a newly confirmed kickoff date and a lineup change.

The latest All Starr Band trek, which has been postponed twice since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, will get underway with a just announced May 27-28 engagement at Casino Rama in Rama, Canada.

This will mark the fifth time that Ringo and the All Starrs will begin a tour at the Canadian venue, after 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2014.

The group's 2022 itinerary also features a new concert in Canandaigua, New York, on May 30 and a second show in Atlanta on June 21, which joins a previously announced June 22 Atlanta gig. In addition, previously confirmed concerts on May 31 in Asbury Park, New Jersey; June 3 in Worcester, Massachusetts; and June 21 in Richmond, Virginia, are no longer on the All Starr Band's schedule.

As for the lineup change, veteran rocker Edgar Winter will be rejoining the group in place of founding Santana and Journey singer/keyboardist Gregg Rolie , who had played with the All Starrs since 2012. Winter previously was a member of the All Starr Band from 2006 to 2011.

The rest of Ringo's All Starr Band remains the same -- Toto guitarist Steve Lukather , Men at Work frontman Colin Hay and former Average White Band guitarist/bassist Hamish Stuart , as well as sax player/percussionist Warren Ham and drummer Gregg Bissonette .

"I can't wait to get back out on the road and play," says Ringo. "This is the longest I've been off the road in years -- up until 2020 I was touring every year with the All Starrs -- and I've really missed it."

In June, Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band postponed the last 12 concerts of the first leg of their 2022 North American tour after two members — Edgar Winter and Toto ‘s Steve Lukather — tested positive for COVID-19. Now, the group is ready to return to the road.

The ex- Beatles drummer and his star-studded group kick off their trek’s second leg on Monday, September 5 in Lenox, Massachusetts. The outing begins with the rescheduled dates and then runs into the All Starr Band’s 20 originally announced fall shows.

The tour leg begins with a series of shows in the Eastern U.S. then makes a bunch of stops at venues in Canada and the Northern U.S. as it works its way west across the continent. The trek winds down with concerts in Washington, Oregon and California, with the final stateside performance scheduled for October 16 at the famed Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Ringo and the All Starrs also will play an October 19-20 engagement in Mexico City.

In addition to Winter and Lukather, the current All Starr Band features Men at Work frontman Colin Hay , Average White Band bassist Hamish Stuart , Toto multi-instrumentalist Warren Ham and acclaimed session drummer Gregg Bissonette .

During the tour, Ringo will release the latest in a series of EPs that he’s been putting together since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a four-track collection titled EP3 . EP3 includes contributions from Lukather, Toto lead singer Joseph Williams , hit-making producer and songwriter Linda Perry , sax player Dave Koz and more.

Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band—Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette, all holdovers from 2022—have added 19 Fall dates in the United States to their 2023 tour. (A spring tour, primarily a west coast run, begins May 19 with 22 dates in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Utah. Several of the spring concerts are makeup dates for shows that were cancelled abruptly in October 2022 when Starr had tested positive for Covid-19.) The fall dates were revealed on May 8.

“It’s a new year and here are some new tour dates,” Starr said in the spring tour’s original Jan. 12 announcement. “I love playing with the All Starrs and can’t wait to be back out on the road again with this band. I send Peace and Love to you all and we hope to see you out there.”

“No No Songs”: Ringo Starr Explains Why He Won’t Be Playing Tunes from ‘Crooked Boy’ EP on All Starr Band Tour

R ingo Starr just released a new four-track EP titled Crooked Boy that was written and produced by acclaimed songwriter and producer Linda Perry. In the coming weeks, the former Beatles drummer will be launching a new tour with his All Starr Band, but Ringo says that fans who attend the shows shouldn’t expect to hear him perform any of his new tunes.

Starr was interviewed recently by Nic Harcourt from the Los Angeles-area radio station 88.5 FM The SoCal Sound, and was asked if he planned to play songs from Crooked Boy .

[Buy Ringo Starr Concert Tickets]

“No, I’m not playing the new music,” Starr said. He then quipped, “I’ll mention it. I thank the five of them for buying it, usually.”

The 83-year-old rock legend explained that the All Starr Band has been touring for about 36 years and he’s released a lot of new records during that time, and he noticed a lack of interest from audiences when he would say, “I’d like to do a track for my new EP.”

“[Fans would go] buy a T-shirt or something,” Starr noted. “And so, I don’t do it anymore.”

Starr Shares Story About an Ill-Fated Elton John Show

Ringo also shared another story illustrating why artists who have many famous songs might want to consider steering clear of performing their new material in concert.

“[Y]ears and years ago, Elton [John] was playing in a stadium in England, and I was with his mother,” Starr recalled. “[H]e was a bit prissy that day, and he came on and he said, ‘I’m only gonna do tracks from my new album.’ Well, not only did a lot of the audience left, his mom and I left, and we went to the pub, ’cause we were waiting for, you know, all his great songs.”

Ringo Starr’s New Music Video

Fans who are interested in Starr’s new music might want to check out the music video for “Gonna Need Someone” —one of the song’s from Crooked Boy —which debuted April 26 on Ringo’s YouTube channel. The clip for the upbeat pop-rock song features new footage of Starr and Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi, who plays on the track, as well as archival film of Ringo from different periods in his career.

Crooked Boy is available now as a digital download and via streaming services. The record will be released on CD and as a 12-inch black-vinyl EP on May 31.

About Ringo’s All Starr Band

The current All Starr Band lineup features Toto guitarist Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Men at Work’s Colin Hay, and Average White Band bassist Hamish Stuart. The concerts always includes a number of classic Beatles and solo Starr songs, as well as hits recorded by the other members of the group.

About Ringo and His All Starr Band’s 2024 Tour Plans

As previously reported, Starr and the All Starr Band kick off a 12-date spring tour leg on May 22 at The Venetian theater in Las Vegas. The trek runs through a June 9 concert in Austin, Texas. The Las Vegas gig is part of a six-show residency at The Venetian. The group also will be playing a couple of shows in California and June 5-6 stand in Mexico City during the outing.

Starr also recently announced a run of nine fall 2024 concerts. Those shows are mapped out from a September 12 performance in Omaha, Nebraska, through a September 25 concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Tickets for the shows are available now via various outlets, including StubHub .

For decades Soviets and then Russians have been visiting subtropical Sochi for some summer sun on the Black Sea coast and for winter skiing holidays in the mountains of Krasnaya Polyana just outside Sochi. In recent years Sochi has also been gaining some fame abroad. It all started in 2014 when the Winter Olympics were held in the city, a somewhat strange choice considering that it is actually the warmest part of Russia. The games though were considered a great success and completely transformed the city through the construction of new transport infrastructure and world-class sporting venues and skiing facilities. At the same time, the classical Stalin-era architecture was preserved in the city, especially its large sanatoria for workers. Sochi’s international recognition grew further in 2018 when it hosted matches of the FIFA World Cup.
