• Average Water Temperature . 81  ° F with lows of 78°F in the winter and highs of 83 ° F in the summer.
• Ocean Conditions . Tradewinds consistently blow from the southeast causing rough seas year-round. Many dive sites are sheltered but prepare for rocky seas, regardless.
• Visibility . Most dive sites in St. Thomas have around 60 to 70 feet of visibility. Deeper and distant sites may see 100+ feet.
• When to Avoid. Even if seas are rough, dive operators usually have a relatively calm dive site they can visit. You can dive in St. Thomas year-round.

• Hiking . Although lacking the epic hikes found on St. John, St. Thomas does have a few. My favorite is the hike up to John Brewers Rock on the west side of the island.
• Beaches . The US Virgin Islands are known for their beaches before anything else. Magens Bay, Lindquist Beach, and Brewers Bay are a few of my favorites.
• Boating . The tradewinds make the US Virgin Islands a premier destination for sailing. For non-sailors, I highly recommend hopping aboard a day charter boat at some point.
• Snorkeling . Most boat trips go snorkeling in some capacity. But honestly, some of the best snorkeling is right off the beach.

• Island Time Pub (ITP) . The rooftop bar in Red Hook has the best pizza on the island.
• Tap & Still . A delicious, greasy burger for a fair price. You can’t go wrong here.

Scuba Diving in St. Thomas: Important Terminology

Cow and Calf are two dive sites on St. Thomas – they’re most definitely NOT a mother whale and her baby.

The tradewinds are the strong easterly winds that are ever-present throughout the Virgin Islands. They typically cause rough seas at many dive sites around the islands.

The Christmas Winds in the Virgin Islands refer to the strong winds during the winter months from the north or northeast.

The north swell in St. Thomas is a result of the Christmas Winds we mentioned above – strong north-northeasterly winds in the winter months. The North Swell makes northside dive sites almost impossible to dive.

French Cap is an epic dive site in St. Thomas – NOT Frenchman’s hat (although, I see where the confusion might arise).

ITP stands for Island Time Pub in Red Hook – the after-dive / evening hotspot for Happy Hour and delicious pizza.

Patagon means "Big Foot" in ancient Spanish. That's how Fernando De Magallanes, during the first human circumnavigation around the World, named the indians of the Southernmost region of South America. That region is known today as (Big Foot's land) Patagonia. Capt. Arnoldo Falcoff started his diving career in Patagonia where he was, for many years, a salvage and commercial diver. Moving to Saint Thomas in 1976 he became a PADI SCUBA Instructor and a certified US Coast Guard Boat Captain in 1978.

Look no further for a diving adventure like no other. We combine scuba diving with meditation. Non certified divers will take our short Discover Scuba course before embarking into approximately 16 feet of clear blue water for a "sit on the bottom" meditation experience. There's nothing quite like this adventure with only beautiful fish, corals and the sound of your bubbles surrounding you.

NIGHT SCUBA DIVE

Three person minimum or $400 for parties less than three.  Spot sea creatures that are rarely, if ever, seen during the daytime as they become active at night. The darkness comes alive as you are guided through the alien landscape of our beautiful ocean at night. Located in American Yacht Harbor on the east end of St. Thomas in the town of Red Hook, our waterfront store is open Monday thru Sunday (Monday – Saturday from 9am – 5pm and Sunday from 9am – 3pm). We have two-tank dive trips departing daily on our 42-ft powerboat, Fool’s Gold, and our location gives us access to 30+ beautiful dive sites.

Imagine walking in zero gravity while surrounded by incredible aquatic life - that's Sea Trek, the world's premier underwater helmet-diving experience. And considering that you also get to see Coral World on this St. Thomas port tour , you'll probably wish the day would never end.

Following an orientation, a guide will lead you along an underwater trail through the coral reef that surrounds Coral World's Undersea Observatory. The tour lasts for approximately half an hour. Fish and other sea creatures swim right up to your visor. Because the animals are not captive, you never know what may come your way.

The helmet provides the air, weight and stability to walk upright under the water. There's even a handrail for additional support. Gloves and booties provide extra comfort. Your head and hair stay completely dry and you breathe normally inside the helmet. The helmet is large enough so you can even wear your glasses.

Friends and family who are not participants may watch you on your trek from the bottom level of the Undersea Observatory. Upon arrival at the park, you will be told what time your underwater walk is, so you can plan your time at the park. Your tour also includes free time to explore Coral World before or after your Sea Trek. They will also tell you what time to be back at the main gate for your transfer back to the pier.

The minimum weight to participate is 80 pounds. Space is extremely limited and will sell out. Book early to avoid disappointment.

St Thomas Snorkeling Tours

We now have daily st thomas snorkel excursions and sunset cruises for cruise ship passengers, only 105$ for adults and 65$ for children this includes all you can drink and pizza party .

Let’s face it, diving is great but sometimes we’d like to just hang out on top of the water and see what’s going on below. We have had 100’s if not 1000’s of requests to add a snorkeling trip for families that are not so inclined to dive but still want to get out on the water with us. That’s why we have added a new St Thomas Snorkeling trip , and in JJ divers fashion we are only going to the best sites inside the St John National Park system. These sites offer everything from amazing coral reef systems and all the underwater critters you can imagine, Sharks, stingrays, turtles and millions of fish are expected on each and every trip

St Thomas Cruise ship Snorkeling tours

We are also doing private snorkeling tours for St Thomas cruise ship passengers departing from the cruise ports however transport is an extra fee*

Join us aboard our power catamaran for the Do It All Trip, where we head to two snorkel stops, eat fresh-baked pizza and enjoy an open bar sunset cruise all in one trip. We will  head to two snorkel locations in the Virgin Islands National Park around St. John to look for turtles, beautiful coral and a plethora of tropical fish. After snorkeling, we will pick up pizza, included in the cost of the trip, at Pizza Pi (floating Pizza Barge)  The bar will be open with rum punch, painkillers, sodas and water for your refreshment. After pizza, we will cruise through the islands around St. Thomas and St. John while the captain tells stories about the islands with the beautiful Virgin Islands sunset , the mate tends the open bar and we watch the sunset. We will then return to 630pm
