Le tour de l’île Charlemagne et le sentier d’interprétation du Bois de l’Île : balade en bords de Loire près d’Orléans en famille

Lieu de rendez-vous des familles, la base de loisirs de l’île Charlemagne est un espace privilégié pour se détendre, faire du vélo et pratiquer bon nombre d’activités nautiques. C’est aussi un lieu pour faire une belle balade avec les enfants près d’Orléans. En bord de Loire, de chouettes randonnées attendent les familles.

Notre balade préférée est accessible aux enfants et ludique : le tour du plan d’eau, aussi simplement appelé le tour de l’Île Charlemagne . Les plus courageux poursuivront avec le sentier d’interprétation du Bois de l’Île.

LA BASE DE LOISIRS DE L’ÏLE CHARLEMAGNE

La base de Loisirs de l’Île Charlemagne est situé sur la commune de Saint-Jean-le-Blanc , à la jonction entre les villes d’ Orléans , Saint-Denis-en-Val et Saint-Jean-Le-Blanc. Le site comprend une très belle aire de jeux pour les enfants composée de nombreux jeux pour les petits et les grands, de 2 tyroliennes et plusieurs balançoires : ce sera la grosse récompense des enfants à la fin de notre randonnée ! On trouve aussi de nombreux terrains d’activité spécialisés sur la base de loisirs comme le beach volley, le basket, le handball, le ping pong, la pétanque.. N’oubliez pas de venir avec vos raquettes, vos balles et vos ballons !

Le parc d’accrobranche Léo Parc Aventure y est aussi installé. Avec des ateliers accessibles dès 2 ans, c’est un lieu apprécié des enfants !

EN BALADE À L’ÎLE CHARLEMAGNE (Les bords de Loire près d'Orléans )

Pour une chouette balade en famille, Kidiklik vous recommande de partir sur le tour de l’île Charlemagne (ou plus précisément le tour de l’étang de l’Île Charlemagne) que l’on peut compléter avec une boucle optionnelle en partant vers le sentier d’interpréation du Bois de l’Île .

Distances des parcours :   - Tour de l’île Charlemagne seul : 3 km - Sentier d’interprétation du Bois de l’Île : 1,2 km - Tour de l’Île Charlemagne + sentier d’interprétation du Bois de l’Île : 5,9 km Comptez au moins deux bonnes heures pour faire la totalité du parcours avec des enfants.

Atouts cette balade près d’Orléans pour les familles :   - la grande aire de jeux de la fin du parcours - les agrès sportifs - le parcours de cross à vélo - le sentier d’interprétation avec ses panneaux ludiques qui vous apprendront les secrets de la faune et la flore de la Loire.  - de nombreuses tables de pique-nique accessible aux poussettes, draisiennes et vélos.  - la possibilité de rallonger la balade en cours de route en partant sur le sentier d’interprétation. Pratique, en fonction de l’état de fatigue des enfants, vous décidez de la meilleure option.

ITINÉRAIRE CONSEILLÉ

1. Départ du parking de l’Île Charlemagne. Empruntez le pont pour vous rendre au bord de l’étang et débutez votre balade en partant vers la gauche. 

2. Au bout d’environ 1 km, vous arrivez sur un espace avec des agrès sportifs que les enfants ne manqueront pas d’essayer. 

3. 800m plus loin, une piste de BMX en terre attend les valeureux cyclistes. Et hop, sur la bosse !

À partir de la piste de BMX, vous pouvez : - SOIT poursuivre la balade en allant jusqu’au sentier d’interprétation du Bois de l’Île (lisez les points 4. à 7.)  - SOIT fermer la boucle en continuant de longer l’étang, traverser le Léo Parc Aventure puis arriver à l’aire de jeux : rendez-vous au point 7

4. Poursuivez votre balade le long de la Loire. Vous arrivez sur un petit pont qui enjambe le rio de l’Île Charlemagne (un petit ruisseau, bras de la Loire !) et vous poursuivez sur la Loire à vélo jusqu’au point de départ du sentier d’interprétation.

5. Faites le tour de 1,2 km du sentier d’interprétation. Il est très bien indiqué et jalonné de poteaux fléchés. Plus calme et plus nature que la zone de l’île Charlemagne, ce parcours longe plusieurs petits étangs de la Loire.

[ Le sentier d’interprétation du Bois de l’Île, c’est quoi ? Il s'agit d'un parcours de 1,2km jalonné de 9 panneaux pour comprendre, apprendre et jouer en partant à la rencontre des plantes et des animaux de la zone. Les enfants apprécieront particulièrement les éléments ludiques : attribuer à chaque poisson le bon corps et la bonne queue, découvrir les secrets des colverts en répondant à des énigmes, découvrir les empreintes 3D des animaux ou encore toucher les différentes écorces. Et côté explications, vous saurez tout de la faune et la flore locale ! Bon à savoir, il y a un parking à proximité du sentier ce qui vous permet de débuter directement votre balade ici si vous préférez. ]

6. Une fois le parcours du sentier terminé, rebroussez chemin jusqu’au petit pont du Rio  (point 4.) et tournez tout de suite à gauche. Vous allez alors longer le rio : ce sentier plus nature et moins fréquenté est très joli mais est en revanche non accessible à vélo ou à poussette (dans ce cas, retournez jusqu’à la piste de BMX). 

7. Vous voilà arrivés à l’aire de jeux : grande récompense des enfants pour cette randonnée. Puisqu’ils ont bien marché, ils l’ont bien mérité.

Orléans: Loire River Paths & Île Charlemagne

Orléans is the capital of the Loire Valley. There’s some lovely running here, centered on paths along the Loire River extending in both directions from the city’s historic center, featuring wonderful water views. Within a few km, the scene becomes increasingly pastoral. Fun to combine with the paths around Île Charlemagne .  Here are some good options for running in Orléans:  ( Note: Pont=Bridge).

Central Orléans . Fun to begin a run in central Orléans at the Joan of Arc Statue at the big square, and run along the Rue Royale toward the river.

Loire Loop . We’ve put together an 8 km central loop along the river, between the Pont René-Thinat and the Pont de l’Europe, so runners can enjoy both sides of the river. Note that it’s a bit wonky connecting to the south side paths from Pont René-Thinat.

Loire River North Side Paths South Side Paths:   Can stay above the river, or on a dirt levée type path along the river  west of Pont Georges V or several km.

Île Charlemagne . Located ~1 km from Pont René-Thinat, this is Orléans major recreation area. We’ve mapped a ~6 km route around the whole island. The lake loop itself  is 3.2 km (2 miles), with markers. Combination woods and water views.

• Central loop is 8.2 km (5.1 miles). Paths extend for several km east and west
• Bord de Loire on north side of the river, next to Pont René-Thinat; Or any section of path

Between history and legend along the "Charlemagne trek"

The historic road.

At a length of 240 kilometers (149 miles), the Way of Charlemagne begins in the city of Bergamo and runs through the villages along the Serio river and through the valleys of Valli d’Argon, Val Cavallina, Val Borlezza, Valle Camonica, Val di Sole and Val Rendena. The full route extends from Bergamo to Carisolo, in the region of Trentino, passing through Lovere . The Trentino section is 67 kilometers (42 miles) long and can be done in 4 legs, passing through the towns of Vermiglio, Ossana, Pellizzano, Mezzana, Commezzadura, Dimaro, Pinzolo and Carisolo. The route is marked by signage bearing the symbol of a white crown against a red background.

Art along the way

A total of 20 art installations are planned for the route as part of the LO-CAR project. The first two were executed in March of this year with the support of the association Borgo degli Artisti, from Bienno, in collaboration with Carisolo Pro Loco. In the “Sculpture Park” between Bienno and Berzo Inferiore, travelers will find “The Place of Soul and Wind” , a work in three parts by the artist Barbara Crimella. Outside the Carisolo town hall there is the statue “King Lo-Car” , sculpted by Tomaso Vezzoli inspired by the figure of Charlemagne.

From Town Hall to “Elisenbrunnen”

The Route Charlemagne connects important sites in the city, including the cathedral and town hall, Grashaus (Aachen’s former town hall) and the Elisenbrunnen hot springs, into one big walk through history. The Centre Charlemagne, the central station of the Route, is located between the cathedral and the town hall, at the very centre of the city. All other stations on the Route Charlemagne are within walking distance.

Why “Charlemagne”?

Aachen without Charlemagne? Unthinkable. For nearly two decades, Aachen was the centre of the Carolingian empire. Charlemagne turned the Palace into a sumptuous imperial residence. He also built St Mary’s Church, the core building of what now is the Cathedral. When he was crowned emperor in Rome on Christmas 800, Charlemagne, as the powerful ruler of the Frankian realm, once more reinstated the Western Roman Empire. Charlemagne is the mythical forefather of Europe and the founding father of two nations: France and Germany.

Even after his death in 814, Charlemagne continued to play an important role in Aachen’s history: Legends around the emperor’s grave and the marble throne at St Mary’s Church made the city the venue of choice for coronations throughout the Middle Ages. Canonisation of Charlemagne on 29th December 1165 was the decisive impulse triggering the veneration of Charlemagne, the ‘Legend of Charlemagne‘. Charlemagne was declared the patron of St Mary’s Church as well as the up-and-coming city of Aachen as a whole. Emperor Frederick Barbarossa granted the city of Aachen comprehensive privileges only a few days after Charlemagne’s canonisation, laying the founding stone for Aachen to become a flourishing imperial city. In the Modern Era, the Legend of Charlemagne was exploited for political purposes. Napoleon and William II deliberately styled themselves as successors of the Carolingian emperor. “Je suis Charlemagne – I am Charlemagne,” Napoleon once said. Since 1950, the International Charlemagne Prize is awarded annually at the Coronation Hall (Krönungssaal) at Aachen town hall in honour of services to the European cause.

An der „Eliteuni“ RWTH Aachen und den anderen Hochschulen sind rund 40.000 Studenten eingeschrieben. Das junge Leben pulsiert vor allem im Pontviertel, dem beliebten Ausgehviertel mit seinen zahlreichen Cafés, Kneipen und Restaurants. Doch auch in den Gassen und auf den Plätzen der Altstadt ist immer viel los. Rund um Dom und Rathaus laden zahlreiche Einzelhändler ebenso wie Filialen namhafter Häuser zum Bummeln ein.

Quelle allen Ruhms ist das Wasser: Die Heilkraft der heißen Thermalquellen war ausschlaggebend dafür, dass Kaiser Karl Aachen zu seiner Lieblingsresidenz machte. Die Badetradition wird heute durch die Carolus Thermen Bad Aachen weitergeführt.

Wer sich lieber in der Natur entspannt, hat dafür zahlreiche Möglichkeiten, etwa im nahe gelegenen Nationalpark Eifel. Zudem locken mehrere Theater und Museen mit einem vielschichtigen Angebot.
