Visa Free Travel- 82 Countries Can Enter UAE Without Prior Visa

Main Points

Visa Free Travel to UAE- No Prior Visa Required

Visiting the UAE has become simpler for people from 82 different countries around the world. They can now enter the UAE without needing to apply for a visa beforehand.

When these visitors arrive, they have two options for visas: one allows them to stay for 30 days, and they can extend it for 10 more days if needed. The other option lets them stay for 90 days.

For citizens of countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), like Saudi Arabia, they can just use their passport or ID card to enter the UAE. They don’t need to worry about getting a visa or a sponsor.

If you’re from India and you have a regular passport, you can get a 14-day visa when you arrive in the UAE. And if you want to stay longer, you can ask for a 14-day extension. Just remember, your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from when you arrive, and you should also have a visit visa or residency card from the US, UK, or an EU country.

If you don’t belong to any of these categories, and you’re not from the 82 visa-free countries, you’ll need something called an entry permit. This is given by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, and it depends on why you’re coming to the UAE.

These are the countries whose citizens are allowed to visit the UAE without prior visa. If you’re from one of these countries, you can travel to the UAE for tourism or business without the need for a visa beforehand.

However, there are still about 115 countries whose citizens need to get a visa before they travel to the UAE. If you’re from one of these countries, you have to apply for a visa before your trip. You can also find the list of these countries and more details about visas on the same ministry website.

These visas or green cards should be valid for at least six months from the UAE entry date. Your passport should also be valid for at least six months from your UAE entry date.

Indian citizens eligible for the visa on arrival can choose to apply online in advance to avoid the queue at the airport. The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) offers this service through their online portal (smartservices.icp.gov.ae).

How to Check Visa Requirements for Your Country

If you want to know whether you need a visa to enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or if you can enter without one, follow these simple steps:

  • Enter your country: Scroll down on the page and type the name of your country in the search box, or you can click on your country on the map.
  • Check the result: The website will tell you if you can enter the UAE without a visa (visa-free) or if you need a visa.

What can I do if I don’t qualify for visa-free entry to the UAE?

If you can’t get a visa when you arrive, you can apply for a tourist visa. You can do this through a travel agency or the airline you’re using to go to the UAE. Another option is to have a UAE resident sponsor your tourist visa. Tourist visas can be as short as two days (ideal for stopovers) or as long as five years for multiple visits.

Eid al Fitr holiday travel: Visa-free destinations for UAE residents

visit uae visa free

At the onset of 2024, Skyscanner witnessed record travel demand, outperforming the global flights market and emerging as the fastest-growing metasearch platform in 2023

Avatar

With most GCC countries offering over 5-days of paid public holiday for the Eid al Fitr holiday , families are taking advantage of the extended break to travel to popular destinations, especially to visa-free countries.

Global travel leader Skyscanner, in its latest report, has highlighted the changing booking patterns, destination preferences, and trending travel hotspots across the EMEA region.

It highlights the increasing confidence among travelers to plan ahead. Compared to the previous year, travelers across EMEA are booking their trips further in advance, signaling a return to traditional seasonality in 2024, says Skyscanner ‘s Horizons report.

The data shows a significant uptick in trips booked with greater lead times, particularly in the 60-89 day and 90+ day booking windows.

Regional preferences

EMEA travelers are exhibiting a strong preference for exploring Europe, with a significant 53 per cent opting for European destinations, marking a 4 per cent increase from the previous year.

According to Skyscanner’s report for 2024, there is a growing demand among UAE and Saudi travelers for cultural experiences, with many European capital cities trending for 2024.

Italy, renowned for its monuments and cuisine, emerges as one of the most alluring holiday destinations, appearing multiple times on Saudi’s top trending destinations list.

Shorter trip lengths

The report also notes a trend of slightly shorter trip lengths for many popular destinations across all regions, with average trip lengths either down or remaining flat year-on-year.

Spanish and Greek destinations dominate as the most popular searched destinations on Skyscanner, with Bangkok, New York City, and Sydney also retaining their popularity for long-haul travel.

Ayoub El Mamoun, Skyscanner Travel Expert, remarked, “Our latest Horizon insights reveal a travel landscape that is both familiar and evolving. While traditional seasonality is returning and popular destinations remain in demand, travelers are also seeking value and exploring options closer-to-home. Across Skyscanner’s platforms, we have seen incredible demand at the start of the year and expect this trend to continue as we head into the summer.”

Trending destinations

Among the most notable findings are the destinations experiencing significant year-on-year increases in search volumes, reflecting a mix of travellers’ desire to explore new places and destinations with new route connections.

The following destinations witnessed substantial growth in search volume among EMEA travelers, reported Skyscanner.

  • Victoria, Canada
  • Marmagao, India
  • Panama City
  • Bol, Croatia
  • Pristina, Kosovo

Travel Insurance : Secure comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost luggage, and other unforeseen circumstances. This is crucial for peace of mind and protection against significant financial losses.

Local Customs and Etiquette : Every culture has its unique customs and etiquette. Research and respect these practices to avoid unintentional offense. This includes dress codes, tipping norms, greeting customs, and public behavior expectations.

Health and Safety Protocols : Familiarize yourself with the health and vaccination requirements of your destination. In the era of COVID-19, stay updated on pandemic-related travel restrictions, testing requirements, and health and safety guidelines issued by both your destination and home country.

Financial Preparation : Understanding the local currency and managing your finances is key. Research the cost of living in your destination to budget effectively. Inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid any issues with your credit or debit cards while abroad.

Connectivity : Staying connected is essential for navigation, emergencies, and keeping in touch. Investigate international roaming options or purchase a local SIM card for data and calls. Wi-Fi connectivity can vary greatly by location, so plan accordingly.

Packing Essentials : Pack smartly by considering the climate and cultural norms of your destination. Essential items include a universal travel adapter, a durable travel backpack or suitcase, comfortable walking shoes, and appropriate attire for various weather conditions and cultural settings.

Cultural Immersion and Respect : Attempt to learn basic phrases in the local language; it can greatly enhance your travel experience and interactions with locals. Show respect at cultural and religious sites, and always ask permission before taking photos of people.

Sustainable Travel : Embrace eco-friendly travel practices by minimizing your carbon footprint, using public transportation, staying in green accommodations, and participating in responsible tourism activities that support local communities and conservation efforts.

Safety : Prioritize your safety by staying aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded or unfamiliar areas. Keep valuables secure and out of sight, be cautious when using ATMs, and avoid sharing personal information with strangers. Familiarize yourself with the local emergency numbers and the location of your country’s embassy or consulate.

Document Safety : Keep electronic and physical copies of important documents, including your passport, travel insurance policy, and any medical prescriptions. Use cloud storage or email yourself copies so you can access them if the originals are lost or stolen.

Adaptability : Travel with an open mind and be prepared to adapt to unexpected changes. Delays, cancellations, and other hiccups can happen; maintaining a flexible attitude will help you navigate challenges more smoothly.

5 visa updates for 2024 that Indian travellers will benefit from

Panchali Dey , TIMESOFINDIA.COM , TRAVEL NEWS , WORLD Updated : Apr 6, 2024, 12:53 IST

With the summer holiday season fast approaching, it's time to start mapping out your travel plans. And as you do, it's also essential to stay updated on the latest visa regulations to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey. Also, staying updated will help you choose your options more wisely, and make the most out of it. In short, knowing the visa requirements and updates can make all the difference.

Here are some noteworthy visa updates for 2024 that every Indian traveller should be aware of.

Japan's introduction of eVisas for Indian travellers

Japan has launched eVisa applications for Indian travellers. Administered by Japan Visa Application Centers operated by VFS Global, this streamlined process retains the familiar steps of submitting documents and applications to VFS. Designed for short-term tourism, the eVisa will be offering a single-entry option allowing stays of up to 90 days. Both Indian nationals and foreigners residing in India are eligible to submit their applications.

Notably, visas will now be issued electronically rather than as physical stickers in passports. Upon approval, travellers must present a visa issuance notice on their mobile device at the airport, necessitating internet access. Do note that alternative formats such as PDFs or printed copies of the eVisa will not be accepted.

Dubai's introduces five-year, multiple-entry tourist visa

Dubai has recently introduced a new visa program tailored for Indian tourists in response to a significant increase in the number of Indian visitors. This visa program offers a five-year, multiple-entry permit, enabling travelers to spend up to 90 days per visit, with the option to extend once, and a yearly cap of 180 days.

This visa will cater to both business and leisure trips, and will allow unlimited entries and exits within the five-year period. Requirements will include a passport photo, six months' worth of bank statements showing a balance of at least $4,000 (INR 3,33,447), a valid passport with a minimum validity of six months, health insurance, and round-trip flight tickets. The application process will typically take 2-5 days, with submissions accepted through the GDRFA website or app, or the official ICP website.

Thailand's visa-free option for Indian travellers

The Thai Government recently announced a temporary visa exemption for Indian passport holders from November 10, 2023, to May 10, 2024. During this period, Indian travellers can enter Thailand for tourism purposes without requiring a tourist visa, enjoying a 30-day stay.

Kenya's eliminates visa requirements

Effective January 1, Kenya eliminated visa requirements for not only Indian citizens, but also for all global visitors, in a move aimed at bolstering the nation's vital tourism sector. This visa-free initiative will facilitate seamless travel experiences for visitors keen on wildlife safaris and beach vacations.

Romania and Bulgaria's access to Schengen Visas

Romania and Bulgaria have partially joined the Schengen Area, expanding the scope of the Schengen visa to include 29 countries across continental Europe. This means Indian travellers can now obtain Schengen visas from Romania and Bulgaria, permitting stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. However, do note that visas issued before April 1 by these two countries won't grant access to the entire Schengen area. Travellers from non-Schengen countries may still undergo passport checks when travelling between different Schengen destinations. Visa issuance for Bulgaria and Romania can be processed on their respective official websites.
