J. Balvín was born José Álvaro Osorio Balvín on the 7th of May 1985. Born and raised in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia, he debuted as a reggaeton singer in 2009 and has since become one of the country’s biggest musical exports in recent memory.

The young Balvín was surrounded by music from an early age. There was a true melting pot of music that he heard on the radio in his youth, but it was the rap, champeta, bachata, and reggae that truly inspired him later in life. After studying music whenever he could during his schooling, he started writing and producing his own music in 2004 at the age of 19.

He amassed a back catalogue of 100 songs before signing to EMI Colombia in 2009, and his first single, the same years "Ella Me Cautivó”, made as much of a name for himself in the States as it did in his home country. Even from then on it was clear that this was an artist with an appeal that could cross continents.

His first album, “Real” was released the same year as well but it wasn’t until the year after when he became a star in his home country. His second album’s lead single "Ella Me Cautivó" went straight into the Colombian charts at number two and the third single from that album “En Lo Oscuro”, reached number one in 2011.

That year he was nominated for ten awards at the Premios Nuestra Tierra music awards but even then, things were only going to get better. His third album, 2013’s “La Familia”, went four times platinum in Colombia, platinum in Romania and Peru and Gold in Argentina and Venezuela. It was also his first record to chart on the Billboard Heatseekers chart as well.

He rounded off 2014 on an arena tour with Pitbull and Enrique Iglesias and his star continues to rise to this day. Where he goes next will hopefully propel him into the stratosphere, and we should all stick around to see it.

Starting his career in 2004, Colombian superstar J Balvin has relentlessly worked to extend his success as a Reggaeton artist and make a name for himself in the US. Signing to Capitol Records, Balvin released his debut album in 2013 ‘La Familia’ which went straight to the top of the Colombian charts. Not content with his success in his beloved homeland, he was eager to bring Reggaeton to New York and fluently learned English to assist him in achieving his goal. The fast rising star has recently scored the opening slot for global Latin superstars Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull which has seen his fan base rapidly grow. J Balvin is a natural born entertainer, happily playing two hour sets for his headline shows to hundreds of adoring fans. With plenty of street swagger and an abundance of charismatic charm, Balvin knows how to work the room with his largely female fan base who swoon as soon as he approaches the crowd, taking them by the hand encouraging them to dance along. Accompanied by a barrage of scantily-clad female dancers adds to the sexy, sultry and intensified atmosphere. Taking complete ownership of the stage Balvin has an incredible energy as he enthuses the crowd who can’t help but shake their hips to his infectious sound. Watch out, J Balvin is all set to blow up the Reggaeton scene!

This was ridiculous! I spent 130 CAD on this and LOST MY MONEY! You have been misleading your marketing in promoting this as a concert and performance. FRAUD! I bought my tickets only to find out it Was just ONLY a DJ playing music. I was going to drive 4 hrs to see this and called ahead before leaving and found out this information so now I’m out my money! I was denied a refund from the venue when I brought my complaint forward! I am taking my case the the better business bureau and exposing your site as FRAUDULENT. I have several screen shots showing you promoting as JBalvin and Bad Bunny headlining this show and that it was a concert. I am expecting a response from you. [email protected]

The show was amazing, I totally recommend every one to go if you're into this type of music if not you should go as well. Can't wait until he comes next time, I will be buying VIP since I didnt get the chance. For now all I have for memories is pictures and videos. I loved him and Becky G she did amazing. The show experience was amazing I had the VIP experience and it was great but the meet and greet was super rushed and that is what I would complain about . For all the money we spent we could only take one picture which wasn't fair. But other then that everything else was fine. Thank you God bless

J Balvin has released his highly anticipated sixth studio album Jose . Named after the artist’s legal name, Jose comprises Balvin’s most personal effort to date and sees him going more in depth musically than ever.

The new audio-visual album , presented with Dolby Atmos technology exclusively on Apple Music, arrives as J Balvin also officially lands his 31st No.1 at Latin Airplay, tying him for the record of most No.1’s on Latin Airplay in history and cementing him as Latin music’s biggest success story of the decade.

Accompanying the album is a new music video for his single “Si Te Atreves,” starring J. Balvin and reggaeton music duo Zion & Lennox.

The Que Bueno Volver a Verte trek kicks off in April

Global superstar and multi-Latin Grammy Award winner J Balvin has announced his highly-anticipated 2024 headlining Que Bueno Volver a Verte global tour. The tour comes off the heels of his most recent summer festival circuit where he headlined multiple sold-out shows in Paris, Spain, Switzerland, Singapore, Australia and many more. This tour will see Jose hit arenas across 20 European cities, with stops in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, and Portugal.

Tickets will be available for presale beginning Thursday, November 30th at 10 am local time, followed by the general sale on Friday, December 1st at 10 am via Ticketmaster .

Karol G Appears in the Griselda Trailer

In early 2022, Billboard reported that Karol G was “taking acting lessons [in Los Angeles] and playing an evolving character in the world of drugs” — and at last, we will see the Colombian singer make her acting debut. This week, Netflix shared the official trailer of Griselda , starring Sofía Vergara as Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug queen. Karol, who is featured in the trailer, will make her Netflix acting debut as Carla, one of Griselda’s mules who transports drugs to the U.S., when the series debuts on January 25. “It’s a great role because there’s real character development,” she previously told Billboard . Carla, she explains, “is a character that evolves. She sees what she does as a job, but also as a way to maintain her family, and she’s tough! She reaches another level.” Watch the trailer below:

Maestro Cares Announces Honorees for 10th Annual Gala

“Henry Cárdenas and I are very excited to celebrate our foundation’s milestone by honoring the legacy of this group of remarkable individuals, who through their careers have made enormous contributions to their communities and our society,” Anthony said in a statement. 

The 2023 Changing Lives, Building Dreams Gala will take place Dec. 5 at  Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Proceeds of the fundraiser, according to the statement, “will provide essential support for the non-profit organization established to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged children and communities in Latin America and the United States.”

Blur Tributes Peso Pluma

During Blur’s return to Latin America, the leader of the British group, Damon Albarn, paid tribute to Mexican superstar Peso Pluma and his Eslabon Armado-assisted hit “Ella Baila Sola.” The presentation, which took place from Nov. 17 to 19 at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico’s Foro Sol, caused the astonishment of the 80,000 attendees (according to figures from the promoter Ocesa). The famous song reached No. 1 on Billboard’s year-end Hot Latin Songs chart.

J Balvin Postpones All U.S. Tour Dates – Here’s What We Know

Lately, it’s been a headline rollercoaster for the Colombian pop star J Balvin. From being the subject of the infamous Residente diss track to releasing his major crossover tracks with English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, it seems like he’s being talked about from all angles. But now, citing production-related difficulties, Balvin announced today (April 12) that his JOSE tour has been postponed — merely a week before it was supposed to kick off in San Antonio.

“Throughout the past year, we have been working tirelessly to bring you an exciting and immersive ‘Jose’ Tour USA experience where everyone feels welcome to the party. Covid has caused some unforeseen production challenges, and I wouldn’t be able to keep my promise of giving you the absolute best show possible,” the “In Da Getto” singer announced on Instagram. “Because I believe you deserve that, I’ve made the difficult decision to reschedule the tour.”

“All the details are still being worked through with my incredible team, but we’ll be getting you the new dates within the next few weeks and honoring your tickets,” he continued. “I’m continuously in awe of all your love and support and I can’t wait to see you on the road where we will celebrate together and keep the good vibes rolling.”

This was supposed to be his biggest U.S. tour to date – in a recent conversation with Remezcla while promoting his latest album, JOSE , he had hinted about a few production details. “[The stage will be] Way bigger than everything that we have done before. My mission was: ‘What would Michael Jackson do if he was still alive?’ That was the mission for the team. I bet you it has to be one of the best tours ever seen on the planet,” Balvin said about the production at the time.

The tour’s postponement comes after a criticized performance at Bogotá’s annual Estereo Picnic Festival , where his set was described as “the poorest show” by the businessman and manager Julio Correal, who’s known for bringing huge acts to Colombia. We’ll see in a “few weeks” what the Colombian star will do.

Will Smith Joins J. Balvin at Coachella for ‘Men in Black’ Performance

Will Smith made a surprise appearance onstage with J Balvin on Sunday night, dressed in his full “Men in Black” suit and sunglasses and performing the title track of the 1997 film. The appearance was brief but memorable, capping a UFO-themed set and concluding with Balvin being dragged off by black-suit-clad dancers as Smith pulled out a “Neuralyzer,” the famous memory-eraser device from the film.

Balvin returned for another song, however, and rocked energetically through a rousing version of his hit “In Da Ghetto” with his troupe of dancers, who were clad in comically stereotypical alien costumes, green with big black eyes.

That year also featured performances from Bad Bunny, Rosalía, Chilean singer Mon Laferte, regional Mexican titans Tucanes de Tijuana — at the end of his set, Balvin said how proud he was to hear so much Spanish being spoken on Coachella stages, although it’s certainly become a familiar sound in the years since.

J Balvin postpones José tour a week before launch due to COVID-related 'production challenges'

A week before the launch of his 25-date José tour, J Balvin has postponed the run due to COVID-related "unforeseen production challenges."

The reggaeton hitmaker, who enlivened the Grammy Awards with his performances of “Qué Más Pues” and “In Da Getto,” announced the delay in Spanish and English on his Instagram account.

"Throughout the past year, we have been working tirelessly to bring you an exciting and immersive 'Jose' Tour USA experience where everyone feels welcome to the party. Covid has caused some unforeseen production challenges, and I wouldn’t be able to keep my promise of giving you the absolute best show possible. Because I believe you deserve that, I’ve made the difficult decisions to reschedule the tour," he wrote.

The tour was slated to launch April 19 in San Antonio, Texas, and play through June 4 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Balvin's post indicated that new dates will be announced "within the next few weeks" and previously purchased tickets will be honored. 

He signed off with an assurance to fans: "I’m continuously in awe of all your love and support and I can’t wait to see you on the road where we will celebrate together and keep the good vibes rolling."

Balvin's tour is in support of his fifth studio album, "José," which honors his birth name. The album was nominated in the new Grammy category, best música urbana album, but lost to Bad Bunny's "El Último Tour Del Mundo."

At the Grammys , Balvin teamed with Argentinian artist Maria Becerra, his duet partner on “Qué Más Pues,” before bringing out 60 dancers for "In Da Getto," his worldwide hit originally recorded with Skrillex. 

The Colombian-born singer , 36, also teamed with Ed Sheeran in March for a pair of songs, “Sigue” and "Forever My Love."

According to Billboard , Balvin has earned the most No. 1 singles in Latin Airplay chart history, an achievement he extended when "Sigue" hit the top to mark Balvin's 35th No. 1 hit.

J Balvin had a special surprise for his Coachella crowd during Sunday night’s set… Will Smith.

The Colombian musician, 38, brought out the 4-time Grammy winner to perform a rendition of his 1997 track “Men in Black,” which was featured in the sci-fi alien film of the same name.

Smith’s surprise appearance was in keeping with Balvin’s extra-terrestrial-themed set, which was adorned with UFOs and alien heads.

After announcing the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alum to the audience, Smith rocked up dressed up as his character from the film for the performance on the Coachella Stage in Indio, Calif.

The 55-year-old turned into his character James Darrell Edwards III as he wore Agent J’s trademark black suit and sunglasses as he emerged onto the stage on a rising platform.

“Coachella,” he yelled, before starting to rap in front of backup dancers all donning alien gear.

After the song ended, the dancers dragged Balvin off the stage as Smith whipped out a Neuralyzer — a prop from the hit film that wipes the memory of a target.

Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and his son, Jaden Smith, were both in the audience to watch the performance.

On Saturday, Jaden was seen hanging out with his celeb pals, including Justin Bieber.

The pair – who famously collaborated on Bieber’s hit “Never Say Never” as teenagers – were spotted embracing each other as they reunited at the three-day music festival.

As seen in a video that’s gone viral on social media, Jaden, 25, greeted the “Baby” singer, 30, by hugging him from behind as they stood in a VIP area near one of the stages.

Smith’s return to Coachella comes five years after his last performance at the hit festival.

In 2019, he joined Jaden on the Sahara stage, where the pair performed their son “Icon.”

This year’s cameo is also his first music performance since his infamous Oscars slap scandal that saw him issue a public apology to comedian Chris Rock, who hosted the awards ceremony that year.

Despite taking a step back from acting since the ordeal, Smith is set to return to the silver screen in the upcoming film “Bad Boys 4,” slated for release later this year.

There's something for everyone with the reunion of No Doubt, Blur, Ice Spice, Sublime, Victoria Monét, and tons more.

The second weekend of Coachella kicked off Friday, but you don't have to head to the California desert to catch favorite performers, reuniting bands, and the buzzy sets everyone will be talking about. The festival will stream performances from various stages Friday through Sunday, which you can watch right here.

Whether you're hoping to see Lana Del Rey , Blur , Doja Cat , or the No Doubt reunion, each set from six of the festival's eight stages will be live on your phone or in your living room.

Here's how to stream the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which starts Friday, April 19 at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET, as well as details on when to catch EW's most-anticipated Coachella sets .

How to stream Coachella online

Anyone heading to Coachella must spend time mapping out the sets they'll catch since artists perform simultaneously on different stages. It's the same deal for anyone watching Coachella at home.

Six stages will stream live on the festival's YouTube account — all available at the bottom of this post. Viewers have to pick and choose the sets that are absolutely essential, moving between the stages just like attendees. However, for the first time, YouTube is offering a multi-view stream. It allows viewers to watch four sets simultaneously with the ability to move between the audio from any of those four streams. Though, multi-view will only be available through the YouTube app on TV.

If you miss a set, each day's stream will start over from the beginning on a loop until the following day's stream begins. See below for who is performing each day and how to tune in.

Who to watch at Coachella on Friday

Coachella doesn't start small — or do anything small, really. Lana Del Rey headlines the opening night, hitting the Coachella Stage at 11:20 p.m. PT. Though, there is plenty to get excited about earlier in the day. Lil Uzi Vert will grace the Coachella Stage a few hours before Del Rey, with the Barack Obama-approved chart-topper Peso Pluma performing between them.

It's a big night for fans of female singer-songwriters. Unfortunately, there is a lot of overlap between the set times for Chappell Roan, Faye Webster, Brittany Howard , and Sabrina Carpenter , the first former Disney Channel star to have an official Coachella set.

Friday will also feature Justice closing out the Outdoor Theatre, for anyone looking to create an at-home dance party. They're preceded by John Summit and Dom Dolla's Everything Always project. So, it's a dance party all night. (Summit and Dolla will have individual sets later in the weekend.)

Also on offer is Ateez, the first K-pop boy group to hit Coachella. Another first happens shortly after the gates open when Cimafunk becomes the first Cuban-born artist to play Coachella. Elsewhere, fans can catch The Little Mermaid star Chloë Bailey , Deftones, Suki Waterhouse , Young Miko, and Tinashe .

Who to watch at Coachella on Saturday

While Tyler, the Creator headlines Saturday's sets — and always puts on a good show — the schedule is loaded with must-see performances. (During weekend one, Tyler brought out special guests Donald Glover, Charlie Wilson, and Kali Uchis .)

The biggest event of the day may be the reunion of No Doubt. Coachella marks the first time since 2015 that Gwen Stefani 's '90s alt-ska group will take the stage together. ( The band was joined by Olivia Rodrigo last weekend .)

The day also features Blur, Ice Spice ( previously joined by Taylor Swift ), and a special set from Sublime , the '90s Southern California group that had its legacy-defining moment before the 1996 death of frontman Bradley Nowell. They've since performed as Sublime With Rome, featuring vocalist Rome Ramirez. The final album of the "With Rome" era comes out soon, but the new era is already getting going. Original members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson are reuniting with Nowell's son, Jakob Nowell, who will perform with them at Coachella.

French electronic innovator Gesaffelstein will close out the Outdoor Theatre on Saturday. He has a reputation for pulling out all the stops live, and his 2019 performance at Coachella is still talked about today.

Other enticing Saturday sets include Jack Antonoff 's Bleachers, Grimes , Jon Batiste , Orbital, Raye, and the buzzy U.K. group, The Last Dinner Party.

Who to watch at Coachella on Sunday

Coachella will not go out with a whimper. Sunday is another stacked day, that gives hip-hop fans a lot to love. Doja Cat headlines, closing down the Coachella Stage at 10:25 p.m. PT. There will also be sets from J Balvin (who was joined by Will Smith to perform "Men in Black" last weekend), Lil Yachty , and the newly-engaged Kid Cudi .

Victoria Monét , fresh off a Grammy win for Best New Artist, will get a lot of attention in a 6:55 p.m. PT slot on the Mojave Stage.

Mean Girls star Reneé Rapp will hit the Outdoor Theater at 5:05 p.m. PT after making a big splash weekend one, including bringing out Kesha to sing "TiK ToK" with the updated lyrics , "Wake up in the morning / Like, f--- P. Diddy!"

The day also features performances from Bebe Rexha , Tems, Taking Back Sunday, Jhené Aiko, Khruangbin, and Bob Marley's grandson, YG Marley, whose parents are Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley.

Say J Balvin 's name, and the men in black will appear.

The "Mi Gente" singer surprised fans at Coachella 2024 by welcoming Will Smith on stage for an out-of-this-world performance that saw the actor recreate his rap and dance moves from his 1997 "Men in Black" music video from the soundtrack to his hit movie of the same name.

In footage from the pair's rehearsal of the alien-themed set, obtained exclusively by E! News, J Balvin praised the star. "We have the legend Will Smith here," he said in Spanish, later calling his experience working with him a "dream."

Men in Black stars Will and Tommy Lee Jones as agents investigating extraterrestrial life on Earth. And fans couldn't get enough of the movie's UFO conspiracy theories, as sequels were released in 2002, 2012 and 2019.

Although the alien movies blew up, Will recently revealed that he almost turned down the role.

"That was the next year after Independence Day ," he told Variety in August. "So I didn't want to make two alien movies back to back."

But Steven Spielberg , who was an executive producer on the film, was able to persuade him after sending a helicopter to fetch Will from New York.

"It landed at his house," Will recalled. "And, like, he had me at hello. And it was the first time I ever had lemonade with carbonated water. You can't say no to that."

Noting that the Jurassic Park director said the "coldest s--t," to win him over, Will added, "He said, 'Tell me why you don't want to make my movie…' And he was the producer. And he put the ellipsis at the end, it was the dot, dot, dot. If he had continued, he would have said, ‘Joker, you know I made Jaws , right? You know I made E.T. '"

And almost 30 years later, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum stepped back into the suit for Coachella 2024.

In addition to Balvin's intergalactic performance, the desert music festival saw spectacles put on by headliners Lana Del Rey , Tyler The Creator , Doja Cat and No Doubt in Indio, Calif.
