The Chicks new music

In 2020, The Chicks dropped “Gaslighter,” their first album made up of new songs since 2006’s “Taking The Long Way.”

Made up of 12 tracks, the empowering record tells the story of Maines’ divorce from her husband, “Heroes” actor Adrian Pasdar.

Rolling Stone said “(‘Gaslighter’) conveys a push toward a calmer sort of freedom” for the group.

If you want to hear the poppy, earnest record, you can listen to “Gaslighter” in its entirety here .

The Chicks set list

Last summer, the group formerly known as The Dixie Chicks stuck to a 22-song set that they played at most gigs with just a bit of variation according to Set List FM .

While we can’t predict what they’ll play this time around, here was what one could expect when they played last year:

01. ) “Sin Wagon” 02.) “Gaslighter” 03.) “Texas Man” 04. ) “Julianna Calm Down”

05.) “The Long Way Around”

06.) “My Best Friend’s Weddings”

07.) “Sleep at Night”

08.) “Travelin’ Soldier” (Bruce Robison cover)

09.) “Wide Open Spaces”

10.) “Tights on My Boat”

11.) “Lubbock or Leave It”

12.) “Cowboy Take Me Away”

13.) “Long Time Gone/Daddy Lessons”

14.) “Landslide” (Fleetwood Mac cover)

15.) “Truth #2” (Patty Griffin cover)

16.) “March March”

17.) “For Her”

18.) “White Trash Wedding”

19.) “Everybody Loves You”

20.) “Young Man”

21.) “Not Ready to Make Nice”

22.) “Goodbye Earl “

The Chicks opening acts

If each show of The Chicks’ tour seem like co-headliner concerts, that may be intentional — the group is bringing some high-profile names along with them this time around.

Here’s what you need to know about each of The Chicks’ special guest opening acts.

Maren Morris headlined all over the U.S. in 2022 as part of her “Humble Quest Tour.” With a Grammy, six albums and a “Sesame Street” appearance under her belt as well, she has quite an impressive resume for an opening act. Want to see if you recognize her voice? Check out “The Middle” which has been streamed over 1.3 billion times on Spotify.

Ben Harper , 53, rose to prominence in the mid-1990s with his backing band The Innocent Criminals. These days, Harper remains active having just released the 11-track record “Bloodline Maintenance” in 2022. For our money though, his greatest song though will always be the jangly “Homeless Child” from his 1997 album “The Will To Live.”

Wild Rivers is a Canadian folk group made up of vocalist Devan Glover, guitarist/vocalist Khalid Yassein and guitarist/synths Andrew Oliver. As of now, Wild Rivers has only released two records — 2016’s self-titled “Wild Rivers” and 2022’s “Sidelines.” If you want a taste of their sound, start with the band’s biggest single “Thinking ‘Bout Love,” which is emblematic of their heartland sound.

Dixie Chicks (formed in 1989) are an infamous American country, bluegrass, folk and Texas swing group who have won a soaring 13 Grammy Awards and sold over 30 million records worldwide, hailing from Dallas, Texas, U.S.

Originally comprised of upright bass player Laura Lynch, guitarist Robin Lynn Macy, and multi-instrumentalist sisters Martie and Emily Erwin, the band is named after the Lowell George song “Dixie Chicken”. Following a series of shows around Texas in which the Dixie Chicks found their form, the group inherited $10,000 from the daughter of Senator John Tower to record their debut album. The result was 1990’s “Thank Heavens for Dale Evans”, which while failing to cause a stir, was followed by the Christmas single “‘Home on the Radar Range”.

Unimpressed with the contemporary direction of the band, Robin Lynn Macy left the group in 1992 following the release of their sophomore album “Little Ol’ Cowgirl”. Laura Lynch subsequently took over lead vocal responsibilities for 1993’s “Shouldn’t a Told You That” after which Dixie Chicks signed with Sony Music Entertainment. “Shouldn’t a Told You That” proved to be Lynch’s final release with the band and was subsequently replaced by Natalie Maines. Bringing with her a broader appeal with blues and rock influences, the band’s major label debut was the single “I Can Love You Better”, which peaked within the U.S. Country Singles Chart’s Top 10. Significantly raising their profile to the national level, Dixie Chicks’ third full-length “Wide Open Spaces” sold over 12 million copies, aided by the singles “Where’s Your Trouble”, “You Were Mine”, and “Wide Open Spaces”.

The record won the band the Horizon Award in 1998 as well as their first Grammy Award for Best Country Album in 1999. Debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Dixie Chick’s subsequent album “Fly” was released in August 1999, marking the group as one of the most successful country acts in U.S. history. The record spawned a whopping nine singles, notably “Sin Wagon” and “Goodbye Earl”, after which the band became involved in a legal dispute with their label Sony.

The result of the dispute awarded the group their own imprint Open Wide Records, through which they released their sixth studio album “Home” in 2002. Noted for its traditional bluegrass and lighter lyrical topics, the record spawned the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 single “Long Time Gone”. The album secure the band three more Grammy Awards for Best Country Album, Album of the Year and Best County Instrumental Performance (“Lil’ Jack Slade”). Dixie Chicks embarked on the Top of the World Tour in support of the record, the first show of which Maines announced her displeasure at the invasion of Iraq, which led the group to be on the receiving end of a huge backlash.

Despite this, their subsequent 2006 album “Taking the Long Way” once again peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Country Albums Chart. Winning five Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, Best Country Album, and Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for their single “Not Ready to Make Nice”, the record was a huge success. The supporting tour, the Accidents & Accusations Tour, was directed more towards the Canadian and international markets due to their newfound unpopularity in America’s south; and didn’t even venture in their home-state of Texas. A hiatus ensued following the tour in which members spent time with their families. Dixie Chicks returned in 2010 to appear on the Eagles’ 2010 Summer Tour after which they appeard in the music documentary “Sounds Like a Revolution”.

Live reviews

The muti-Grammy Award winning trio The Dixie Chicks are country rock legends, and their success both in the US and worldwide is something to be marvelled at, selling out stadiums and achieving diamond-record status for their late-nineties albums 'Wide Open Spaces' and 'Fly'. You may know them best however, from the political anti- Bush controversy that lead singer Natalie Maines sparked at a London concert in the run-up to the 2003 Iraq war, stating that she against the war and was 'ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas'. This led to talk-show outcry back home and the Chicks came under a huge conservative backlash, but, over a decade later, are still going strong commercially and won the respect of many fans globally for not being afraid to voice their opinions.

But enough politics, what about the music? If you're a country, bluegrass, or good ol' classic rock fan, the Dixie Chicks give one hell of a good show. At their show several years back at the Royal Albert Hall, London, sisters Martie and Emily Erwin played multiple instruments throughout their set, including fiddle and guitar, and Maines' voice was just as powerful and heartfelt as on record. A real bonus was when legendary, beautiful-voiced singer Emmylou Harris joined the Chicks for 'Godspeed', the song she recorded on their third album. A solidly entertaining night from some of the most talented women in country music today.

This was the first time I got to see the Dixie Chicks and, to be honest, would have preferred a smaller venue but that's the choice.

The MMXVI tour is a BIG show. The band is tight and the Dixie Chicks are in control of the cavernous room from the off. The show's start with blinding lights into Taking The Long Way is a big opener and the pace doesn't let up through the first part of the show which includes top performances of Easy Silence, Favourite Year and Top Of The World and closes with a raucous Goodbye Earl.

After a short break the Chicks return for an acoustic wish set starting with Travelling Soldier, a second time ever Beyonce cover (Daddy Lessons) before the show's highlight - their version of Patty Griffin's Don't Let Me Die In Florida.

After their Bluegrass medley part 3 of the concert began with Ready To Run against a cartoon backdrop of the current crop of US presidential candidates and culminating with a singalong Wide Open Spaces and a banging Sin Wagon.

The Dixie Chicks are called back the bouncing crowd for a poignant and defiant Not Ready To Make Nice and a hopeful Better Way.

Brilliant show despite the venue echo. Anyone wondering about going shouldn't.

The Dixie Chicks are country legends, having won several Grammy Awards for their country tunes. As well as brilliant singers and songwriters, the trio are all talented musicians and this combination makes for a spectacular show, full of diverse talent and wonder. The Dixie Chicks’ success is evident simply by how notorious they are, not only in the country music hub of America, but worldwide. Even in the UK they are well known, evident by how many people turned up to watch the trio perform live. From guitars to fiddles, this trio worked the stage with instruments of increasing ambiguity, wowing the audience with their talent. They performed all their best loved hits, from the famous ‘Ready to Run’ to the much loved ‘Goodbye Earl’. I was so excited when they performed my personal favourite, ‘Travellin’ Soldier’. There is something so quintessentially American and nostalgic about their music that just gets the whole crowd going, proving that country is most certainly not a genre run by men, but that women country singer are every bit as powerful and loved.

Texan trio the Dixie Chicks have proven throughout their career that country music is not a genre owned by men. The female outfit has had phenomenal success in their homeland yet they have also achieved something notoriously difficult for country performers, universal recognition. The Dixie Chicks are a well known name in the UK and following their controversial views on the presidency of George W Bush, they have always been warmly welcomed by the British audiences.

Tonight is no change as fans pack into the venue to hear classic songs along with some tracks from most recent album 'Taking the Long Way'. There are the obvious cheers for 'Ready to Run' and 'Goodbye Earl' yet thanks to the girls charismatic manner and enthusiastic presentation they keep the crowds singing and dancing all evening. The Dixie Chicks have always been known for putting their own magic touch on tracks by other artists and the highlight tonight is their version of the prolific 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac, a real spine tingling moment from some of country's most loved women.

The DC were in top form at Hartford show, almost 2 hours of big hits and a mix of their music genres.

It was good to see them strut their progressive politics -- support for Planned Parenthood and for righting the wrongs of mistaken imprisonment.

Our seats were stage left, facing the too-heavily miked bass drum which overpowered fans and hurt sound quality.

The full screen back drop had mostly good video, esp during a moving Easy Silence. Some videos were confusing or distracting.

A good show on a beautiful night but not sure worth the $350 for tix, parking, and 1 beer.

Love the Chicks. JW

Good concert. They played a varied 2 hour set so you got your moneys worth. o2 an awful venue as usual, with the seats for most people being too far away even with screens helping out. If you need the screens you may as well stay home and watch the DVD.

Prices of food and drinks inside the o2 are scandalous. But once you're inside you can't get out again to the other food outlets, so you are a captive audience waiting to be exploited. This the o2 do very effectively.

Good band performance, terrible venue.

Last night I saw the Dixie Chicks for the first time live in concert, and I am extraordinarily happy to say that I went to a sold out concert to see them. I have been a HUGE fan of the girls since they came out, and it was heartbreaking to hear what they had to go through. Through thick and thin they came out stronger then ever and I can't wait to see what they do next. I am beyond happy to have the Dixie Chicks back so I can see them over and over again live

These chicks DEFINITELY still got it. They are hot, Natalie's voice is perfection. They tried out some new material as well as including a tribute to Prince and playing something off of Beyonce's Lemonade. The crowning point was definitely their performance of Ready to Run with the graphics and confetti themed to mock themselves and the political climate.

What an amazing show! First of all, opening act Anderson East - WOW!! New favourite loving it! 2nd, Molson Amphitheatre-outdoor venue with perfect weather, And 3rd, the Dixie Chicks- what a performance! The sound was amazing, they played my favourite song- Sin Wagon, nobody sat throughout the entire show. Thoroughly entertained...what a good time!

It was awesome seeing the ladies again, it's been way too long. An excellent spread of new and old favorites, a couple surprises and, as always, superb musicianship. Plenty of eye candy in the stage show, but it didn't overpower the Chicks as they played through about 2 hours of well mixed and well played favorites with one costume change.

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting The Chicks tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

Green Day, Notorious B.I.G., The Chicks and More Added to National Recording Registry — See All 25 Titles

The songs and albums have been deemed "worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance"

Green Day , the Notorious B.I.G and The Chicks are among the latest artists whose work will be preserved forever in Washington, D.C.

On April 16, the U.S. Library of Congress announced the 2024 class of titles selected for induction into the National Recording Registry, with the organization explaining the 25 chosen songs and albums are "worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage."

Out of 2,899 nominations, albums that made the cut include Green Day's 1994 major label debut Dookie , The Chicks' 1998 major label debut Wide Open Spaces and the Notorious B.I.G.'s 1994 debut Ready to Die — his sole full-length release before his tragic 1997 death.

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day spoke to the Library of Congress about Dookie getting chosen for the class of 2024, explaining that the album's lasting impact is because "the lyrics are just so honest and from where my life was at that time."

"We always wanted to be in this band forever," reflected Armstrong, 52. "I think in the back of our minds was to be able to play music together for the rest of our lives. So that's, that's quite a goal when you're 20 or 21 years old. But, you know, we've managed to do it, and it's just been an amazing journey so far."

Blondie's Parallel Lines is another title joining the Library of Congress, and Debbie Harry told the Library of Congress she recalls Chrysalis Records "didn't like" or "hear any hits" on the 1978 album — which spawned classics including "One Day or Another" and "Heart of Glass."

Brian Cooke/Redferns

"The old problems of art and commerce are sometimes very restrictive," said Harry, 78, "and I think that we, somehow being a bit of a fringe element, got to do some things that were, you know, groundbreaking."

Additional albums inducted into the Library of Congress this year include ABBA 's 1976 Arrival , Lee Morgan's 1964 The Sidewinder , Jefferson Airplane's 1967 Surrealistic Pillow , Lily Tomlin 's 1971 This Is a Recording , J.D. Crowe & the New South's 1975 self-titled album, The Cars' 1978 self-titled debut album and Kronos Quartet's 1982 Pieces of Africa.

Songs in the 2024 class include Gene Autry's 1949 "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick's "La-Di-Da-Di," Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy," Juan Gabriel's "Amor Eterno," Benny Goodman Sextet with Charlie Christian's 1939 "Rose Room," Viola Turpeinen and John Rosendahl's 1928 "Kauhavan Polkka," Lt. James Reese Europe’s 369th U.S. Infantry (Hell Fighters) Band's 1919 "Clarinet Marmalade," Patti Page's 1950 "Tennessee Waltz," Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats' "Rocket '88'," Perry Como's 1957 "Catch a Falling Star" and "Magic Moments," Johnny Mathis' "Chances Are" and Héctor Lavoe's "El Cantante."

Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden spoke about the newly inducted recordings — which bring the total number of titles to 650 — in a statement.

"We have selected audio treasures worthy of preservation with our partners this year, including a wide range of music from the past 100 years, as well as comedy," she said. "We were thrilled to receive a record number of public nominations, and we welcome the public’s input on what we should preserve next."

Deer Flat provides important habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, especially grebes,” Refuge Manager Eddie Owens said. “We manage some premiere nesting and breeding ground. It’s awe-inspiring to look out and see these birds out here. We all feel a sense of responsibility to provide a home for them.”

Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge has two units: Lake Lowell and the Snake River Islands. The Lake Lowell Unit encompasses more than 10,500 acres, including the almost 9,000-acre Lake Lowell and surrounding lands. The Snake River Islands Unit contains more than 1000 acres on 104 islands. The islands within the refuge are distributed along 113 river miles that cross the Idaho-Oregon border.

Grebes tend to congregate around Lake Lowell, where the pink-flowered smartweed provides cozy nesting habitat. Originally planted in 1938, smartweed provides an abundance of nesting materials and foraging habitat. Western and Clark’s grebes spend almost all their time in water, feeding, dancing, resting, and weaving nests.

In recent years, the numbers of nesting grebes have dropped. In 2021, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) listed western Grebe and Clark’s Grebe as  Species of Conservation Concern . The  North American Breeding Bird Survey  has registered a 75% decline in their populations since 1966. While researchers have posited theories behind these species’ decline, no single reason has been identified as the main culprit.

The Service recently formed a working group to foster partnerships and gather data about this understudied bird to head off further declines and help restore populations.

“The grebe is an understudied species,” Owens said. “We’re partnering with Idaho Fish and Game to do more monitoring, including coordinating drone flights to do surveys, nest counts, and track nest success.”

Idaho Fish and Game is using State Wildlife Grant funds, in part, to tally adult western grebes prior to nesting and adult and chicks post-nesting. The State Wildlife Grant program is administered by the Service’s Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program and is designed to benefit at-risk species just like the western grebe. Because the grant program allows for long-term monitoring, the state can repeat the study at intervals over many years.

According to the  2022 U.S. Census , Nampa is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. As urban areas increase, the refuge serves as a connection to nature for wildlife, residents, and visitors. There is a myriad of educational, wildlife watching, and recreational opportunities. While the grebe may stand out for its red eyes and innate sense of style, the colorful refuge provides occasions for everyone to celebrate. Bring your binoculars, hiking shoes, and fishing pole — and even your tuxedo if you want to jam like the grebes.
