Vasco Rossi (born February 7, 1952) is an Italian pop and rock singer, songwriter and guitarist, hailing from Zocca, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

After being enrolled in a singing school during Rossi's time in school, he fell in love with music and later founded his first band age 14. After graduating high school, Rossi opened the music club, Punto Club, and worked as a DJ, forming one of the first private radio stations in Italy, Punto Radio. After showcasing some of his music on his radio show, Rossi released his first single “Jenny”/“Silvia”, ahead of his debut album “…Ma Cosa Vuoi Che Sia una Canzone” in 1978. Combining ’60’s Italian pop and an undeniable sense of rock & roll, Rossi’s extensive album releases over the late ‘70s and early ‘80s showed a maturing of his style and sense of humour, from 1979’s “Albachiara”, 1980’s “Colpa d’Alfredo”, 1981’s “Siamo Solo Noi”, to the chart topping “Bollicine” in 1983.

In true rock & roll style Rossi was arrested and detained for three weeks for cocaine possession, however it did nothing to arrest his success, and his two subsequent albums “Cosa Succede in Città” in 1985 and “C’é Chi Dice No” in 1986 were hugely popular and led to the singer to sign with EMI. His first album on EMI “Liberi” marked a split with producer Guido Elmi and his backing band, however showed Rossi to be the Italian equivalent of the Rolling Stones or U2.

In 1993 the album “Gil Spari Sopra” arrived with the help of drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, and was succeeded by the all-out rock album “Nessun Peroclo…Per Te” in 1996 and “Canzoni per Me” in 1998. Following the release Rossi played to 120,000 people at Imola’s Heineken Jammin’ Festival, which he recorded and released as a live album “Rewind” in 1999. Following the death of close friend and former backing band member Massimo Riva, Rossi wrote many of the songs and lyrics that appeared on his 2001 album “Stupid Hotel”.

Rossi went on to release the album “Buoni o Cattivi” in 2004 which he supported by putting on a free concert in Catanzaro, attended by over 400,000 people. Subsequently the singer has issued the albums “Vivere o niente” in 2011, “L’altra metà del cielo” in 2012, and “Sono Innocente” in 2014.

Singer-songwriter Vasco Rossi is an idol for many Italians. Throughout his career, he could fill one of Italy’s many large football stadiums with over 60000 adoring fans at a canter. Among other things, he is perhaps arguably the best example of Italian singers who would turn heads every time he walked down the street in his homeland but who would hardly be recognised if he walked down Oxford Street (unless he happened to come across some of the many Italian expats found there these days). He puts his huge success in Italy but limited recognition this side of France down to what could be seen as conspiracies involving the British and American governments, but it’s perhaps also because of how full of content his lyrics are which are mostly memorised word for word by Italian fans but rarely understood by those who don’t speak Italian (i.e. The vast majority of Brits or Americans). He retired from touring in 2011, only to return in the summer of 2014 to play gigs including at Milan’s massive San Siro – the whole of AC Milan and Internazionale. Just as he did then, expect him to close sets with the immortal ‘Albachiara’ and ‘Vita Spericolata’. Expect impressively long sets of well over 20 tracks, all belted out with as much heart and energy as in his 80s heyday. And expect the people around you to know every lyric and cheer exuberantly when he’d start each song. He recently announced more concert dates in 2015 and that he’s to release a 27th album. That – and the fact that Sony brought out a SingStar video game entirely of his music – gives you an idea of just how much appeal he’s had for decades. Admittedly very much Italian phenomenon, he’s long-known how to write rousing songs, and certainly still knows how to a play a crowd and attract one.

He is in his sixties but still he breaths rock and fill a Stadium like San Siro Milan with more than 50k people whose age span between 20 and 50.

Being in San Siro is the experience of the power or the concert crowd. In no other place voices of the crowd are so powerful when they sing all together.

And only Vasco Rossi makes so many people sing all together for so many songs.

I am 46 and i have seen a lot of concerts in my life and pretty much all famous bands and singers but Vasco in San Siro is The Concert every time

Fortunatamente ha cantato molte canzoni "vecchie" ma non sentire sally è stato un colpo al cuore.

Was the 10 time or more for me for a Vasco’s concert but this one was one of the best for the location and atmosphere of San Siro and the song’s list. Second date of a sold out of 6.

Vasco rossi live 022 stadium tour.

Italy – Italian superstar and showmaster Vasco Rossi roared back to live performance action this year with his “Vasco Live 2022” stadium tour which played 11 venues around Italy all of which were completely sold out.

The production was run to strict Covid guidelines with a goal of keeping the environment safe and ensuring that the show could go on, as the latest variants of the virus demonstrated that they are still capable of causing havoc, the consequences of which no large tour wants to deal with.

Lighting designer Giovanni Pinna created another spectacular show, choosing nearly 300 Robe moving lights to be the heart, soul, and backbone of the rig, with MegaPointes, Spiiders and LEDBeam 150s.

A 71 metre wide stage and over 1,000 square meters of video in Gio Forma studio’s set concept offered up a fresh new variation of the epic high-impact widescreen aesthetic that Vasco loves for presenting his live work. Giovanni took this as a major starting point for the lighting creative.

“I knew immediately – and obviously – that I needed a lot of super-bright light sources to cut through and still make an impact with the video whilst also complementing it and not taking over,” he declared, for which Robe proved a good and reliable choice that fitted the budget.

Giovanni also wanted to limit the amount of fixture types when it came to choosing lights, so these three Robe fixture types were combined with two other genres of luminaires.

He based the structural element of the lighting rig on a series of curves and circles, with four main circle trusses flown under the roof, all on a Kinesys automation system. The largest was a central 14 metre diameter with a six metre diameter one inside it and two four metre diameter side circles.

All of these were custom made to fit this design and moved up and down and tilted and pitched, a great effect that helped Giovanni keep the visual surprises coming right through the two-and-a-half hour set.

There were numerous side stage trusses and more between the PA and screen wings. Giovanni added eight two-metre diameter Roll Star motion circles hung in the roof and side wings downstage facing into the audience. They rotated a bit like a giant Gobo and were “a lot of fun” to integrate into the show, also augmenting the architectural elegance and style of curves.

Giovanni has been a keen Robe user for several years and knew that MegaPointes and Spiiders would deliver exactly his required effects, the challenge was getting enough of them for the duration of the tour!

The logistics were left to lighting vendor BOTW, who “came through with everything I wanted and were fantastic as always,” he noted.

The 186 MegaPointes, 164 Spiiders and 24 LEDBeam 150s were positioned all over the rig: on the circles, in the overhead trusses, across side and wing trusses, and on the stage deck. Basically, anywhere a fixture could be rigged! Eighteen Robe Pointes were deployed in the four metre circle.

Many were on the floor and around the scenery which provided a topological environment for Vasco and the band. Other lights were positioned along the downstage edge of the stage where there was a special balcony that included four triangular frames – two onstage and two in the wings – for lighting positions, together accommodating 48 MegaPointes and 36 Spiiders for low level lighting which was highly effective.

The set and scenic elements were specially fabricated by BOTW.

“Using MegaPointes to produce all the fantastic massive looks and effects was incredible,” Giovanni enthused, explaining that for once, they had a decent amount of time to tech and programme the show during production rehearsals ahead of the first gig in Trento.

In addition to being able to create all the dynamics and spectacular moments he wanted, Giovanni knew he would have a reliable rig in the heat and dust of a particularly hot Italian summer. “The Robes were rock solid, we only had to change out one fixture on the whole tour,” he reported.

Thirty-six of the fixtures, mostly MegaPointes with some Spiiders, were controlled via a zactrack system for specific numbers, with the positional information and triggers integrated into the lighting cues on his grandMA3.

With video and lighting inextricably entwined, Giovanni and playback video operator Marco Piva worked closely to craft those huge looks and awesomeness; the two have worked together with the artist for several years and enjoy a great synergy together with live camera director, Giuseppe Romano.

On this tour, they had a dedicated Notch operator and d3 specialist Nicolas Di Fonzo was also integrally involved in producing the big visual picture.

The 31-truck tour was production managed by Danny Truhlar. The timescale for each show was a two-day set up followed by a show day, and ER once again supplied a spectacular laser system used for six songs, adding richness and texture to the visual mix. Video kit was supplied by Event Management.

For Giovanni and all of the crew, it was fantastic to be back on the road after an enforced break of two years due to the pandemic. “It was just amazing to be back together again following our passions, enjoying the camaraderie, producing great shows and entertaining so many people,” he concluded.

Popular Americana and R ‘n B singer songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff and his band The Night Sweats played their show-stopping, sold-out annual homecoming holiday concert at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, in December.

Show designer and director Martin Hruska wanted to create an ambitious, breathtakingly visual and memorable performance space for Slovak rap group Kontrafakt to deliver their highly anticipated “New Era” concerts at Prague’s O2 Arena in the Czech capital, a challenge achieved with the assistance of nearly 200 Robe moving lights and a spectacular automated stage set.

A team from Dublin-based Spectrum Productions led by David Lawless and Jack Quirke supplied a large quantity of Robe moving lights rig for a rumbunctious, sold-out electro-extravaganza gig by popular Irish mixmasters, Belters Only, at Dublin’s 3Arena.

Circo massimo area to be closed off this weekend for vasco rossi concerts..

Italian rock star Vasco Rossi will perform two sold-out concerts at Rome's  Circus Maximus  on 11 and 12 June, after a two-year wait due to the  covid  pandemic.

The 70-year-old singer-songwriter, currently on a concert tour of Italy, was originally scheduled to play the coveted Roman venue in June 2020 however the dates were postponed several times.

This weekend's long-awaited concerts will lead to numerous street closures in the Circus Maximus area, with the Roma Pride parade also causing traffic restrictions in the city on Saturday.

Hugely popular in Italy, Rossi has released 30 albums and written more than 250 songs including numerous hits such as  Senza Parole , Un Senso and Siamo Soli .

On 9 July, a month after Rossi's double-show, the Circus Maximus will host a sold-out concert by Måneskin in what is being billed by organisers Rock in Roma as the " event of the year ".

Over the last decade the historic Rome venue has hosted several major interational acts including  The Rolling Stones ,  Bruce Springsteen  and  David Gilmour .

• Rome's Circus Maximus to host summer rock concerts

In 2019 there was just one concert at the Circus Maximus, by  TheGiornalisti , an Italian band that split up just days after performing.

In 2020 and 2021 Circo Massimo swapped rock concerts for Rome's summer opera festival which this year has returned to its traditional base at the Baths of Caracalla .

Last month it was announced that Bruce Springsteen would return to the Circus Maximus on 23 May 2023  as part of a European tour.

Vasco Rossi Live 2022 Stadium Tour

Italian superstar and showmaster Vasco Rossi roared back to live performance action this year with his “Vasco Live 2022” stadium tour which played 11 venues around Italy all of which were completely sold out.

The production was run to strict Covid guidelines with a goal of keeping the environment safe and ensuring that the show could go on, as the latest variants of the virus demonstrated that they are still capable of causing havoc, the consequences of which no large tour wants to deal with!

Lighting designer Giovanni Pinna created another spectacular show, choosing nearly 300 Robe moving lights to be the heart, soul, and backbone of the rig, with MegaPointes, Spiiders and LEDBeam 150s.

A 71-metre-wide stage and over 1000 square meters of video in Gio Forma studio’s set concept offered up a fresh new variation of the epic high-impact widescreen aesthetic that Vasco loves for presenting his live work. Giovanni took this as a major starting point for the lighting creative!

“I knew immediately – and obviously – that I needed A LOT of super-bright light sources to cut through and still make an impact with the video whilst also complimenting it and not taking over!” he declared, for which Robe proved a good and reliable choice that fitted the budget.

Giovanni also wanted to limit the amount of fixture types when it came to choosing lights, so these three Robe fixture types were combined with two other genres of luminaires.

He based the structural element of the lighting rig on a series of curves and circles, with four main circle trusses flown under the roof, all on a Kinesys automation system. The largest was a central 14 metre diameter with a 6-metre diameter one inside it and two 4 metre diameter side circles.

All of these were custom made to fit this design and moved up and down and tilted and pitched, a great effect that helped Giovanni keep the visual surprises coming right through the 2-hour and half set.

There were numerous side stage trusses and more between the PA and screen wings. Giovanni added eight 2 metre diameter Roll Star motion circles hung in the roof and side wings downstage facing into the audience. They rotated a bit like a giant Gobo and were “a lot of fun” to integrate into the show, also augmenting the architectural elegance and style of curves.

Giovanni has been a keen Robe user for several years and knew that MegaPointes and Spiiders would deliver exactly his required effects … the challenge was getting enough of them for the duration of the tour!

The logistics were left to lighting vendor BOTW, who “came through with everything I wanted and were fantastic as always,” he noted.

The 186 MegaPointes, 164 x Spiiders and 24 x LEDBeam 150s were positioned all over the rig - on the circles, in the overhead trusses, across side and wing trusses, and on the stage deck. Basically, anywhere a fixture could be rigged! Eighteen Robe Pointes were deployed in the 4-metre circle.

Many were on the floor and around the scenery which provided a topological environment for Vasco and the band. Other lights were positioned along the downstage edge of the stage where there was a special balcony that included four triangular frames – two onstage and two in the wings – for lighting positions, together accommodating 48 x MegaPointes and 36 x Spiiders for low level lighting which was highly effective.

The set and scenic elements were specially fabricated by BOTW.

“Using MegaPointes to produce all the fantastic massive looks and effects was incredible,” Giovanni enthused, explaining that for once, they had a decent amount of time to tech and programme the show during production rehearsals ahead of the first gig in Trento.

In addition to being able to create all the dynamics and spectacular moments he wanted, Giovanni knew he would have a reliable rig in the heat and dust of a particularly hot Italian summer. “The Robes were rock solid – we only had to change out one fixture on the whole tour,” he reported.

Thirty-six of the fixtures, mostly MegaPointes with some Spiiders, were controlled via a zactrack system for specific numbers, with the positional information and triggers integrated into the lighting cues on his grandMA3.

With video and lighting inextricably entwined, Giovanni and playback video operator Marco Piva worked closely to craft those huge looks and awesomeness – the two have worked together with the artist for several years and enjoy a great synergy together with live camera director, Giuseppe “Peppe” Romano.

On this tour, they had a dedicated Notch operator and d3 specialist Nicolas Di Fonzo was also integrally involved in producing the big visual picture.

The 31-truck tour was production managed by Danny Truhlar. The timescale for each show was a 2-day set up followed by a show day, and ER once again supplied a spectacular laser system used for six songs, adding richness and texture to the visual mix. Video kit was supplied by Event Management.

For Giovanni and all of the crew, it was fantastic to be back on the road after an enforced break of two years due to the pandemic. “It was just amazing to be back together again following our passions, enjoying the camaraderie, producing great shows and entertaining so many people!” he concluded.

Show designer and director Martin Hruska wanted to create an ambitious, breathtakingly visual and memorable performance space for Slovak rap group Kontrafakt to deliver their highly anticipated “New Era” concerts at Prague’s O2 Arena in the Czech capital, a challenge achieved with the assistance of nearly 200 Robe moving lights and a spectacular automated stage set.

A team from Dublin-based Spectrum Productions led by David Lawless and Jack Quirke supplied a large quantity of Robe moving lights rig for a rumbunctious, sold-out electro-extravaganza gig by popular Irish mixmasters, Belters Only, at Dublin’s 3Arena.
