Ambikapur is connected to the Anuppur railway junction, a bordering town in Madhya Pradesh. Trains reach Ambikapur from Katni , Satna , Jabalpur , Durg , Bhopal and the state capital Raipur . More destinations, such as New Delhi , can be reached from Anuppur railway junction.

Ambikapur is well connected by road to the other major cities of Chhattisgarh such as Raipur, Bilaspur , Durg, Bhilai , Korba and Raigarh . Daily bus services also run for Varanasi and Renukoot in Uttar Pradesh (170 km), Raipur (337 km) and Garhwa in Jharkhand (160 km).

Bus services from Anuppur to Ambikapur operate via Manendragarh and Surajpur. The bus journeys from Bilaspur and Anuppur take between five and six hours.

Ambikapur Airport is in Darima, 12 km (7.5 mi) south of Ambikapur. The air strip is mostly used by small aircraft and helicopters. It is the nearest airport with regular scheduled flights to Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state.

#1 Sita-Benga & Jogimara Caves

Our first destination is Sita-Benga and Jogimara Caves. These are historical cave structures located in Puta village of Chhattisgarh, on the north side of the Ramgarh hills. You have to cover 45 Km from Ambikapur to reach the destination. The Sitabenga cave is the first to appear if you’re travelling towards the north. The painted and engraved Jogimara cave is the next spot, and it is located on the south side. According to historians, Lord Rama and Goddess Sita spent fourteen years of exile in Sita-Benga. And Jogimara is acknowledged as a centre for dance and other arts of the Mauryan era.

#2 Ghaghi Waterfall

Next on our list, we have an unexplored yet attractive tourist destination, named Ghaghi Waterfall. It is located at Ambikapur-Mainpat Road. The route of Ghaghi is narrow because of water channels. The location is famous for its Ulta Pani or Bisar Paani, which appears to flow against the rules of gravity. Magnetic fields in an 185-metre strip of land cause the water stream to flow uphill. Just across from the water stream, there is another wonder. A steep road that runs for around 50 metres. Although not very high, the elevation is certain and might be 1 foot. Even vehicles are being hauled back at a speed of 15 to 20 km/h.

Oxygen Park is a one-stop destination for visitors looking for some relaxation, fun, and fresh air. It is present at the heart (centre) of Ambikapur. From here, you can see the entire city of Ambikapur and take in the breathtaking sunset. Along with entertainment resources, canteens are available, and it is a good location for taking pictures. Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh

• Ramgarh and Sita-Bengra: Ramgarh and Sita-Bengra are two other sacred sites in the city. Ramgarh, located north of Ambikapur, is thought to be the location where the legendary King Ram and his beloved wife Sita spent 14 years in exile. Sita's parental house is Sita-Bengra. In front of the caverns, there are round-shaped rock-cut benches grouped in the shape of a crescent.

Tourist Places To Visit In Mainpat

Located in the Ambikapur district of Chhattisgarh , Mainpat is a cozy and beautiful hill station. This lovely hilltop is one of its own kind and much unique from any other place in Chhattisgarh. Blessed with abundance of natural resources and history, this hill station is a must visit destination in India . Known for their Tibetan community, this place is a great visit for a vacation. There are several tourist places to visit in Mainpat; some of the main ones include the famous Dhapko Monastery, one of the only Buddhist monasteries in Chhattisgarh, beautiful waterfalls, caves and much more. Here’s a list of all the attractions one must see on their visit to Mainpat.

Dhakpo Monastery

Main is home to a lot of Tibetans who have taken refuge in India and now lead their life and follow their culture in this region. Owing to that fact, Mainpat is full of Buddhists and one of the most famous monasteries there is the Dhakpo Shedupling Monastery. It is a Gelung Monastery and is quite different in shape, structure and grandness from the other monasteries in other parts of the country. This is the only Buddhist monastery in Chhattisgarh and indeed it is a beautiful one. When you visit, you will find that it is different from other monasteries; the place is not very crowded and you can actually feel a sense of tranquility. When you visit, you can hear the monks chanting their prayers in a low voice and occasionally you can hear the Tibetan bell, giving visitors a surreal environment.

Tibet Refugee Camp

In 1959 due to Chinese invasion, Dalai Lama fled from Tibet and came to India to seek shelter. This is when thousands of his followers followed him all the way to India and the Indian government helped these refugees to settle here in different places like Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh and of course Mainpat. From that time in history, Tibetans have built their homes here in Mainpat; these Tibetan settlements are divided into 7 camps spread over an area of 25 km. These refugee camps are a must visit as you get to see the lifestyle of these Tibetans.

Tiger Point

Located at a distance of 7 km from the center of Mainpat is a popular attraction called Tiger Point. Basically this spot has a beautiful waterfall that originates from Mahadev Muda River; this waterfall is surrounded by lush green and dense forests that make the place even more scenic. It is said that many people have spotted tigers in that area and hence the name came to be Tiger Point. Falling from a height of 60 m, the water falling from the waterfall makes a pool where several tourists sit and spend a relaxing day. This is one of the top attractions in Mainpat.

Machali Point

Machali point, also known as Fish Point is a spot that has a great view of a scenic waterfall. The main attraction of this place is that you can see cute little colorful fish in the stream where the water gets collected from the waterfall. This place is almost 17 km from the main hill station and it is nestled amidst green forests and waterfalls. This point has panoramic views of hills along with waterfalls and is a great place to visit while in Mainpat. If you are an avid angler, fish point is something that you will enjoy. Join locals in the sport of fishing and take back your catch for making dinner later.

Bouncing Land

Looking for something more fun in Mainpat? Visit the Bouncing land in this hill station, also known as Jaljali locally. The main attraction here is literally the land that bounces; at this spot, the landmass is such that if you jump on it, it acts like a trampoline along with giving out vibrations. The vibrations that are produced is a natural phenomenon and is a wonder of nature. When one jumps, the entire area shakes, making it quite fun. This is a great place to visit, especially if you have children; they are bound to enjoy this attraction.

Mainpat has a lot of natural resources, one of them being Tatapani, a natural hot water spring. This attraction is distanced at 12 km from the center of Mainpat and it has quite a history. Mythology says that during the era of Ramayan, Shri Ram during game play accidentally spilt hot oil from a bowl straight the ground. It is said that when these oil droplets fell to the ground, they made a hole so deep that hot water started to seep out of those holes. People living in Mainpat consider Tatapani to be sacred and believe that people taking a Bath in this reservoir can get rid of their diseases and sins. You can see a lot of tourists in this place during the festival of Makar Sankranti.

Jogimara Caves

If you have keen interest in archeology, Jogimara Caves is a must visit. Located at a few kilometers from Mainpat, these caves are located in Surguja district itself. The caves date back to 300 B.C with various proofs that mankind has been living in these caves from the ancient times. When you enter the cave, you can see painting of humans, animals, flowers and birds that have a red outline. The Jogimara caves are some of the oldest attractions in this hill station and is a definite must visit when you are here. The cave is surrounded by forest area and you may have to trek a little bit before you can get there.

Parpatiya is a village near Mainpat and is located at a distance of 30 km from there. This place is most famous for its sunset point; the view of the sun setting from here is absolutely breathtaking and must be seen when you visit Mainpat. It is said by travelers that when the sun is about to set, the adjacent hills appear to look like cubes, giving an absolute scenic view. When you drive up to this point, you can views of green forests, undulating hills and a variety of plants and flowers as well.

Dev Pravah in Mainpat is yet another naturally bountiful place on this hill station that almost has everything. Located in Kamleshwar which is close to Mainpat, Dev Pravah is a stream of water that ultimately flows into an 80 m waterfall. This stream of water looks like a slithering snake, making its way into the waterfall in a zig-zag manner. This stream of water passes by quickly and shines like a pearl, giving a very pleasing view to tourists. The stream of water flows swiftly and makes a loud continuous sound if you go closer. From here, you can also see views of the sunset, which are very appealing.

Mahamaya Temple

The Mahamaya Temple is located close to Mainpat in Ambikapur and it is one of the most popular Hindu Temples in the vicinity. The presiding deity at this temple is Goddess Durga and this shrine is highly decorated with ornaments, new saris etc, especially during festivals. This is a much revered temple by both locals as well as tourists. The architecture of the temple is quite simple and it the location provides a calm environment for whoever is visiting. Moscow metro to be more tourist-friendly

For many years now, Moscow has lagged behind St. Petersburg when it comes to making life easy for tourists, especially where getting around the city is concerned. Whereas the northern capital installed English-language maps, signs and information points throughout its subway system in the late 2000s, the Russian capital’s metro remained a serious challenge for foreign visitors to navigate.

Recent visitors to Moscow may have noticed some signs that change is afoot, however. In many stations of the Moscow subway, signs have appeared on the floor – with large lettering in Russian and English – indicating the direction to follow in order to change lines. Previously, foreign visitors using the Moscow metro had to rely solely upon deciphering the Russian-language signs hanging from the ceilings.

However, this new solution has a significant drawback. “The floor navigation is visible only to a small stream of people – fewer than three people per meter. During peak hours, this navigation will simply not be noticed,” said Konstantin Trofimenko, Director of the Center for Urban Transportation Studies.

One of the biggest problems for tourists in the Russian capital remains the absence of English translations of the names of subway stations in the station vestibules and on platforms. The Department of Transportation in Moscow has not commented yet as to when this problem will be solved. However, Latin transliterations of station names can already be found in the subway cars themselves.

Finding the right exit

At four of the central stations – Okhotny Ryad, Teatralnaya, Ploshchad Revolyutsii, Lubyanka and Kuznetsky Most – the city authorities have now installed colorful stands at the exits with schematic diagrams of the station’s concourse and surrounding area, which provide information about the main attractions and infrastructural facilities.

The schematic diagrams are the work of British specialists from the City ID and Billings Jackson Design firms, who have already implemented successful projects in New York and London.

According to Alexei Novichkov, expert at the Design Laboratory at the Higher School of Economics, the design of these information booths raises no objections: The color solutions, font, layout and icons are consistent with international standards.

However, the stands do have some shortcomings. “Many questions are raised about the fact that the developers of these maps did not apply orientation to the north, and have provided layouts of the surrounding areas with respect to the exits,” says Novichkov. “A system like that is used for road navigators, but most of the ‘paper’ guides and maps are oriented strictly to north. The subway map is also oriented to north, so people may become confused.”

Muscovites and foreign visitors are generally positive about these navigation elements, with most of them citing the numbered exits from the subway as the most useful feature.

The fact is that many Moscow subway stations have several exits. One of the busiest central stations of the Moscow subway in particular, Kitay-Gorod, has more than a dozen exits. Previously, these exits were differentiated from each other only with signs in Russian referring to the names of streets and places of interest to which they led – making it easy for tourists and those with poor navigation skills to get confused.

Now, when making an appointment to meet a friend, instead of struggling to find the right spot when they tell you: “I'll meet you at the exit to Solyanka Street,” you can just propose to meet under a specific exit number.

“I’ve lived in Moscow for seven years,” says Angelika, a designer from Voronezh, “but I still don’t always know where to go to find the place I need, so the new schematic diagrams will be very useful. Previously, some subway stations had maps, but not with so much detail.”

Teething problems

Foreigners, meanwhile, focus their attention on other elements. “It is good that the new information boards have QR-codes, which can be ‘read’ by smartphones,” says Florentina, a writer from Vienna. But there are also shortcomings. “The English font of the information on posters and in the captions to theaters and museums is too small – you have to come very close to see it well,” she says.

Pleasant encounters on the streets of Moscow

Florentina was also dissatisfied with the fact that such posters are not provided at all subway stations: “When I was trying to find Tsaritsyno Park (a museum and reserve in the south of Moscow) at a subway station with the same name, it turned out to be quite difficult,” she says.

“There are no maps with landmarks for other areas, such as those already in the city center. There were no clear pointers in the English language, and the passers-by I met did not speak in English, so they could not help me,” she adds.

Officials say that the navigation system is gradually being redeveloped and improved. According to Darya Chuvasheva, a press representative for the Department of Transport of Moscow, the introduction of a unified navigation system will take place in stages.

“By the end of 2014, the system will first appear on the first subway stations on the Circle Line. By the end of 2015, we plan to install the system at all major stopping points, subway stations and transport interchange hubs,” says Chuvasheva.
