Which Cruise Ships Have FlowRider?

When planning a cruise vacation, a suitable itinerary and appealing destination remain the most important considerations; however, for those who are new to cruising or haven’t been onboard for a while, a lot has changed. The competitive industry has resulted in cruise lines providing ever-new amenities and attractions to entice passengers – none more so than the FlowRider innovation on Royal Caribbean vessels.

Researching a cruise has never been easier. Online resources highlight all the best attractions, bargains, and customer feedback. The FlowRider has garnered more than its fair share of reviews, with customers generally ecstatic about the experience. Opinion is divided however – and rightly so – as there have been serious and even fatal consequences of inexperienced riders jumping in, unaware of the inherent dangers.

What is a FlowRider?

A FlowRider is a 40-foot-long surf simulator constructed on dry land, or in the case of Royal Caribbean ships, a free attraction located on the deck at the rear of the vessel. A FlowRider wave is formed by water rushing upwards at 40kph, mimicking the feel of the ocean surf. FlowRiders are perfectly safe when riders stay within their limitations of surfing experience. There are options for laying on a boogie board or standing on a surf board, and the opportunity to take lessons from the Royal Caribbean experts.

The risk of injury on the FlowRider is heightened mostly by the fact that it is a very public entertainment where friends, family, and even complete strangers cheer the rider on. The natural response is to please the fans by showcasing your surf skills. Unfortunately, many riders have zero surf skills to show off, and the temptation to stand rather than lay is too great for some people. Although serious injuries are rare, they do happen. Passengers sign an “Onboard Activities Waiver” which means they accept any risk of accident as their own responsibility.

Suggestions for a safe ride

  • Get a feel for the FlowRider as a spectator. It’s almost as much fun to watch as it is to experience. You will quickly learn how it is done properly.
  • Start on a boogie board. The water is shallow and your fall will be cushioned. Get a feel for controlling the board. Only experienced riders should stand on a surfboard.
  • Follow the instructions of FlowRider staff. They will teach you how to stay on the board and how to steer it.
  • Be prepared for limited visibility. The FlowRider works by pushing water up hill to form an artificial wave, and the water will be splashing in your face.
  • Wear a tight bathing costume. A lot of force is generated by the water in a FlowRider, so you may be more comfortable in shorts and a T-shirt rather than a bikini.

Restrictions:  Guests participating in the FlowRider must be at least 52″/132 cm tall to use the bodyboard and 58″/147 cm tall to use the flowboard.

FlowRider Oasis of the Seas

FlowRider on Oasis of the Seas

FlowRiding is a sport attracting talented surfers from around the world. There are prestigious competitions and even world-championships held every year at exotic locations. It’s a great way for a novice to get the feel for stability and motion on a boogie board before graduating to standing up on a surf board. The enduring popularity of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has been enhanced by the FlowRider introduction which has quickly become a favourite onboard attraction.

Considering that guests can ride the FlowRider as many times as they like for FREE, it’s no wonder the sport’s popularity isn’t waning.

Passengers who wish to improve their skills can sign up for private sessions starting at $69 per person. Private lessons require a minimum of 4 persons. Meanwhile, guests who are already skilled at FlowRiding may rent the entire surf simulator for $345. Their party can use FlowRider exclusively for an allotted period of time. Staff will supervise but will not assist or instruct. If guests who wish to rent the simulator require the assistance of trained personnel, they may sign up for the $552 rental package.

Here’s the official FlowRider page .

The Family that Flows Together, Stays Together

It’s a major bonus when a single attraction can attract and engage an entire family. Riders only need to be 42″ to ride the FlowRider so it’s great for the smallest to tallest members.

Royal Caribbean Trusts Us with Their Waves

For over 16 years, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has used FlowRider waves to introduce the sport of flowboarding to more people than any other customer we have. We tried to calculate it one time – and lost track in the millions of patrons to try it out on their ships! They are on a constant quest to make the activity as fun and accessible for the masses as possible

Capture the Tricky Teen Market

The FlowRider is a teen magnet – kids and teens just can’t get enough of this addictive skill. And while the kids spend hours and hours riding, parents will grab some food & beverages as they spectate, or they’ll be free to check out the other amenities your ship offers.

Strong Social Communities

Let’s face it, before even researching cruise lines on traditional outlets and travel sources, parents turn to social media for travel inspiration. FlowRider builds a community around it wherever it goes, and there are actually Facebook groups specifically dedicated to flowboarding on cruise ships. They share awesome tips and tricks, and they encourage friends in the group to join them on their next cruise!

Surfing on the High Seas – FlowRider on a Cruise Ship

Last Updated on December 17, 2020

Imagine surfing on top of 60,000 gallons of water per second while being over 150 feet over the ocean. The fresh sea breeze caressing your face as the water rushes by you at almost 20 mph. That’s what you experience when you try FlowRider, a unique artificial surfing experience. The simulator sends powerful jets of water over a soft incline to create the experience of surfing on a wave. Experienced riders will effortlessly float on top, shredding water like a pro surfer in Hawaii. Less experienced riders will wobble around until they hit the pad and are pushed to the top of the incline by the water.

FlowRider technology originally debuted internationally in 1995, but there were pretty hard to find. By 2000, only 25 FlowRiders dotted the globe, so you really had to seek them out if you wanted to try them. In 2006, Royal Caribbean scored the exclusive cruise ship rights and installed their first FlowRider on the Freedom of the Seas . Now, many of their major ships have at least one FlowRider machines, with the Oasis-class ships having 2 (see a list of ships below).

carnival cruise with flowrider

When riding, you have the option of standing or laying down on a boogie board. Lying down is usually the easiest, although even that takes some practice.

Who can go on FlowRider?

There aren’t a ton of requirements for FlowRider. For boogie boarding, riders must be at least 52 inches. For stand-up surfing, riders must be at least 58″. FlowRider is a physical activity so go with your best judgment. While the floor is padded, most people will take a tumble or two, so as long as you’re ok with that, you should be good. Be sure to wear well-fitting bathing suits and attire as the water can really tug on them.

How much does FlowRider cost?

The good news is that FlowRider is included in the cost of your Royal Caribbean cruise. Any passenger who meets the requirements can hop on a board and try it out without paying anything extra. It can get crowded though during sea days and cruises with lots of kids (like summer cruises). Check out the times in your Cruise Compass to see when it’s open.

If you’d prefer smaller lines and are willing to pony out some extra cash, Royal Caribbean does offer additional packages to reserve instruction time. They have 3 options:

  • These lessons last about an hour and have 6 to 8 other guests. You’ll get hands-on instruction on how to ride it.
  • Rent out the simulator for your whole party. This includes supervision by staff for safety but no instruction or assistance.
  • Rent out the simulator for your whole party with instruction and assistance.

Of course, price and availability may vary. You can book these ahead of time on your Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner.

That being said, we believe most people will be fine with the free option, but if you would like help to master it or want a fun group activity (bachelor’s party, corporate event, etc.), paying a little extra might be worth it.

What Cruise Ships Have Flowriders?

Start your cruise adventure with FlowRider, a thrilling 12-meter surf simulator exclusive to Royal Caribbean. Know which ships are hosting this unique experience.

Book Your Cruise

Are you looking for a fun-filled cruise ship experience? Consider FlowRider, a unique attraction offered exclusively by Royal Caribbean. Initially developed as land-based entertainment, Royal Caribbean has successfully brought the excitement of this 12-meter-long surf simulator, which can yield 100,000 liters of rushing water aboard. This Article brings FlowRider, its operation, and which Royal Caribbean ships provide this exciting experience.

What is FlowRider?

FlowRider is a surf simulator that creates a sensation of surfing, snowboarding, and skating at the same time. The surf wave is a whopping 12 meters long and travels at nearly 20 mph. All age groups of passengers are catered for this exhilarating water sport, giving participants the option of bodysurfing (boogie boarding) or traditional stand-up surfing.

How Much Does FlowRider Cost?

Luckily, you will find FlowRider included in your cruise's fare. It is free of charge, and you may ride it as much as you want. Nevertheless, you may have to queue since it is famous. Lessons can be taken by those who would like to improve their skills at a charge of $69 per person . Such lessons often occur in groups of 6-8 other persons, which must be booked through the cruise planner.

Do You Need to Book FlowRider?

FlowRider does not take bookings – it works on a first-come-first-serve basis . You'll be issued with a safety briefing and wristband on your arrival. While you'll still need to queue up for more attempts, the wristband signals to the staff that you've already been briefed, saving you valuable time.

Can You Rent FlowRider Privately on Royal Caribbean?

For about four hours a day, FlowRider is open to the public. However, reservations for this facility are available for private purposes at this time. The cost is $345 for experienced individuals and will cost $552 if one wants training.

What Criteria Are There on FlowRider?

  • Age Limits: Riders must be at least six years old, with additional adult supervision required for those under 12.
  • Height Requirements: To boogie board, the rider should be at least 52″ tall (1.32 meters), while standing surf is for those who are 58″ tall or higher (1.47 meters).

How Long Does Your Turn on FlowRider Last?

There is no definite time limit, but your session ends when you fall off your board. Typically, rides take about 3-4 minutes, with some exceptions.

Is FlowRider Difficult?

Despite looking tough, FlowRider is relatively easy to engage in after some practice. Compared to stand-up surfing, boogie boarding is easier, and one only needs time before becoming a pro.

Tips for Riding FlowRider

  • Listen attentively to the safety briefing, especially the advice on falling off.
  • Don't be discouraged by initial falls; practice makes perfect.
  • Follow the mantra "elbows in, legs out" for boogie boarding.
  • For standing surfers, keep both feet on the board and the weight over the back leg.
  • Relax, stay low, and don't overthink it; enjoy the ride.
  • Beginners should start on their stomachs, progress to their knees, and eventually attempt standing surfing.
  • Ladies, opt for a one-piece swimsuit to prevent wardrobe malfunctions due to the force of the water.

Incorporating these tips into your FlowRider experience contributes to a safer session and enhances the fun and excitement of riding the waves. Whether you're a first-timer or looking to improve your skills, these insights from expert surfers will surely make your FlowRider adventure memorable .

Grand Turk FlowRider

carnival cruise with flowrider

Found in the large lagoon-like pool at the Grand Turk Cruise Center , the FlowRider is a great attraction for those looking for a bit of excitement.

Consisting of a contoured slope, water is jetted in a thin sheet over this ramp to create wave-like conditions.

It’s possible to surf in a traditional standing surf stance, but a body or knee-boarding pose is much easier for beginners to maintain.

Reservations

carnival cruise with flowrider

If using the FlowRider is important during your stay on Grand Turk, you’ll definitely want to reserve your place in advance.

Depending on the number of bookings, it’s usually possible to sign up at the cruise center, but this isn’t guaranteed.

There may be as many as ten other guests sharing an allotted time period. The attraction isn’t typically this busy, but you’ll likely be one of about four or five persons taking turns on the FlowRider.

Requirements

Minimum height is 55 inches (1.4 m). An instructor is present at all times, but be aware that this activity can be a bit strenuous.

Located at Grand Turk Cruise Center

The Grand Turk Cruise Center is the only cruise port in the Turks and Caicos, and is a large complex that's home to many shops and the largest Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville in the Caribbean. A beautiful beach fronts the complex.

I enjoy Carnival quite a bit on my first cruise and I'm planning a second trip this year BUT...the ONLY reason I'm considering trying out Royal Carribean is BECAUSE they have a "Flow Rider" on some of their ships. I totally LOVE Flow Riders. I keep "hoping" Carnival will get them then I'll have no real reason to try Royal.

It will probably show up as a quote on his blog tomorrow.

We were looking at the flowrider in Grand Turk as something to do, but I kept reading people's comments about their injuries. I think I need something a little less intense. I don't have the best knees anyway.

Royal Caribbean FlowRider (Surfing on a Cruise Ship)

' src=

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links. We may receive compensation when you purchase via my links at no cost to you. See my disclosure for more information.

Royal Caribbean has a strong reputation as one of the most innovative cruise lines in the world.

And perhaps their most famous innovation is the FlowRider surf simulator found on several vessels in their fleet.

On my first cruise as a 13-year-old, I spent nearly every moment boogie boarding on the top deck of the cruise ship.

If you’re looking forward to trying your hand at surfing or are a little nervous about the sport, here’s what you need to know about the Royal Caribbean FlowRider.

Table of Contents

What is the FlowRider?

Quantum of the Seas FlowRider

The FlowRider is a wave-shaped device that sends a thin layer of water over the surface. The 12-meter FlowRider simulates a continuous wave, allowing passengers to boogie board or “flowboard” (similar to surfing but on a smaller board) for extended periods.

Surf’s Up on Royal Caribbean’s FlowRider

The FlowRider on Royal Caribbean uses high-speed jets to propel 30,000 gallons of water at speeds of 20 miles per hour.

While surfing takes some athletic ability and practice, boogie boarding was so easy that after a couple of runs, we felt like professionals.

The FlowRider was first created as a land-based attraction. But a partnership with Royal Caribbean means you can find the activity on several Royal Caribbean ships.

Which Royal Caribbean ships have a FlowRider?

Man boogie boarding on the Flowrider area aboard the Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas Cruise Ship

It’s safe to say that the FlowRider is a top-rated attraction. The cruise line has included the ride on every new ship since it debuted on Freedom of the Seas in 2006.

Royal Caribbean’s fleet has even added FlowRiders to several older vessels as part of its Royal Amplified program.

Here’s a list of Royal Caribbean ships that offer a FlowRider:

  • Freedom of the Seas
  • Liberty of the Seas
  • Independence of the Seas
  • Oasis of the Seas (two FlowRiders)
  • Allure of the Seas (two FlowRiders)
  • Harmony of the Seas (two FlowRiders)
  • Symphony of the Seas (two FlowRiders)
  • Quantum of the Seas
  • Anthem of the Seas
  • Ovation of the Seas
  • Navigator of the Seas
  • Voyager of the Seas
  • Explorer of the Seas
  • Adventure of the Seas
  • Mariner of the Seas
  • Odyssey of the Seas
  • Wonder of the Seas

How Much Does the Royal Caribbean FlowRider Cost?

There’s no cost to use the FlowRider on Royal Caribbean.

You can ride the FlowRider on the Royal Caribbean cruise line as often as you like without paying a fee. You just have to wait your turn in line.

Before waiting your turn in line, you’ll have to visit the nearby office for an essential safety briefing. The staff member will provide an overview of the ride along with basic safety information.

Woman surfing on the FlowRider aboard the Oasis of the Seas at Fort Laudetdale

Once you’ve completed the safety overview and signed the release waiver, you’ll receive a wristband that lets ride staff know you’ve completed the safety briefing.

Although riding is free if you want to avoid the crowds and improve your skills you can book private lessons. The lessons cost $60 per person. Each class puts you in a group of four to eight guests and lasts about an hour.

You can book the lessons at the office where you receive your wristband and sometimes from the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner.

You can also book the FlowRider for private groups. Skilled guests who can load themselves onto the simulator can book the ride for $345. And groups requiring assistance or instruction can book at the cost of $552.

Though you might want to splurge for private lessons, we don’t think renting the entire ride is worth the price. That is unless you have a large group who loves to surf or boogie board.

What are the Restrictions for Using the FlowRider?

Guests who wish to ride the FlowRider on Royal Caribbean must be at least 52″ (132 cm) tall to use the bodyboard and 58″ (147 cm) tall to flowboard (stand-up surfing).

In our experience, we’ve never seen a weight restriction specifically mentioned.

On the ride, no footwear, eyewear, or cameras are allowed. And yes, that includes go-pros.

FlowRider Tips & Tricks

Man falling from a surfing board on FlowRider

If you’ve never been on the FlowRider, here are our tips to make the most of the ride:

  • Make sure you wear clothing that won’t easily come off. The high-speed water often causes “wardrobe malfunctions.” Men should wear bathing suits with a string, and women should consider wearing a one-piece suit over a bikini.
  • You’ll often find long lineups at the FlowRider. Embarkation days, mornings, and port days tend to be less crowded.
  • While there aren’t any time limits to using the ride, we recommend being courteous to other passengers. When riders spend too long on the ride, the sports staff will challenge the rider to try more advanced tricks until they fall.
  • Hours of operation are different each day. Check your cruise compass to find out when the ride will be open.
  • During the cruise, you might find teen-only or adult-only times. With restricted guests participating, the lines are usually shorter.
  • If you need help or advice, don’t be afraid to ask the ride staff. They are always friendly and ready to provide guidance if needed.
  • If you are trying to surf, shift your weight to your rear leg for balance, and use your front foot to steer.
  • Never try to stand up on a boogie board. It’s unsafe and against the rules.

FlowRider FAQs?

Does the flowrider have age and height restrictions.

Riders must be 52″ tall to boogie board and 58″ tall for stand-up surfing. Fortunately for riders, there aren’t any age or weight restrictions.

What is the Weight Restriction to Ride the FlowRider?

Although there might be a weight restriction to ride the FlowRider, we’ve never seen it displayed on the ship or on Royal Caribbean’s website.

What Are the Hours of Operation for the FlowRider?

The FlowRider hours of operation vary throughout the cruise. Fortunately, it is open for several hours each day. You can check the Cruise Compass for the next day’s time slots.

How do You Sign up to Ride the FlowRider?

Before lining up for the Flowrider, you must visit the nearby office to sign a waiver and receive some basic safety information. After all that, you will receive a wristband allowing entry to the ride.

How Long Does the FlowRider Ride Last?

There’s no time limit to rides on the FlowRider. You can ride as long as you last on your board. If you fall off right away, you can get back in line to try again.

If you are a pro and don’t fall, the ride staff will challenge you until you fall off. On average, a ride lasts between two to four minutes.

Does it Hurt if you Fall on the FlowRider?

Eventually, you will wipe out on the FlowRider. Luckily, the padded floor and flowing water help to break your fall. That said, it is an extreme sport, and there is always a risk of injury.

When you fall, it’s best to tuck in your head and arms to avoid injury.

What Should I Wear For The FlowRider?

The FlowRider is known to cause occasional “wardrobe malfunctions.” The fast-moving water can catch clothing and pull-down shorts and tops.

To avoid an embarrassing mishap, we recommend guys wear a bathing suit with a tightly pulled string, and girls wear a one-piece suit or a top and swim trunks.

Is the FlowRider Safe?

Though fun for all ages, the FlowRider is an inherently dangerous extreme sport. When you ride the attraction, you must be aware that there is a risk of injury, mostly from falling.

List of All Royal Caribbean Ships that Have FlowRiders

royal caribbean ships with flowriders full detailed list

If you are booking a Royal Caribbean cruise adventure, you are probably wondering which ships have the FlowRider surf simulator machine. You are in luck because I am going to list every single ship Royal Caribbean offers FlowRiders and I will also go into some details for each one. First, let me list them out for those in a hurry.

List of Royal Caribbean Ships with FlowRiders:

  • Icon of the Seas (New ship in 2024)
  • Utopia of the Seas (New ship in 2024)
  • Wonder Of The Seas
  • Harmony of the Seas (has 2)
  • Allure of the Seas (has 2)
  • Oasis of the Seas (has 2)
  • Symphony of the Seas (has 2)
  • Voyager of the Seas
  • Quantum of the Seas
  • Odyssey Of The Seas
  • Anthem of the Seas
  • Ovation of the Seas
  • Liberty of the Seas
  • Explorer of the Seas
  • Spectrum Of The Seas
  • Mariner of the Seas
  • Navigator of the Seas
  • Independence of the Seas
  • Freedom of the Seas
  • Adventure of the Seas

This makes for 24 total FlowRider wave machines on Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Now, lets do a quick overview of each one for each ship.

Icon of the Seas FlowRider

Number of FlowRiders: 1

The Icon of the Seas is going to be the largest cruise ship in the world at 250,800 gross tonnage, that’s a large ship! However, we are discussing FlowRiders, and of course, the Icon of the Seas has a FlowRider, and it is located on deck 16 situated in the back right (starboard) corner of the ship. It is in a unique location as it is on its own peak.

There will be a FlowRider booth section just to the side of the FlowRider machine. This is great for signing up for private lessons and asking questions you may have.

A cool feature is the large audience bleachers section placed directly in front of the FlowRider so you can watch your friends, family, or the professionals during a show.

The FlowRider is the standard FlowRider single , which is the same one that is on each Royal Caribbean cruise.

This ship will also include:

  • the Royal Bay, which is the largest pool you will find at sea!
  • Numerous Waterslides
  • Whirlpools (hot tubs)
  • Various other pools (Cove Pool, Hideaway pool, etc)

There are no shortage of water adventures on the Icon of the Seas! You will have a lot of fun when you get the chance to sail off on the largest cruise ship currently available.

Utopia of the Seas & Wonder Of The Seas FlowRiders

@royalcaribbean FlowRider boogie board challenge with @Alex Ojeda 🇲🇽 🏄‍♂️ Which level can you complete? #WonderoftheSeas #RoyalCaribbean #FlowRider ♬ Sunroof – Nicky Youre & dazy

Number of FlowRiders per ship: 1

The Utopia of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas are sister ships. The Utopia is a bit larger in total tons size, but actually has less staterooms than the Wonder. They are both the same length coming in at 1188 feet long. Being the same length, they also have a similar layout throughout.

On deck 16, you will find the FlowRider in the back left (port) corner on both of these ships, right behind the basketball court. You can gather around the FlowRider and watch from above, or go down a few stairs and sit in the bench seats at the front of the wave simulator.

On deck 16 you get a lot of exciting activities nearby. Across from the basketball court and FlowRider, the Wonder/Aqua Dunes and the Playscape playground is there. Plus, the Ultimate Abyss slide is there too. Meet in the middle and get a drink at the Wipe Out bar!

The Oasis Class FlowRiders

Allure of the Seas FlowRider

Ships in this Class: Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, and Oasis of the Seas

Number of FlowRiders per ship:  2

The Oasis Class ships all have the same FlowRider layout, which is my favorite because there are 2 per ship. I was on the Allure of the Seas, and having two machines really made a difference if you were interested in FlowRides, as there were less waiting times. They could have one doing stand-up boarding, and the other split into two lanes for boogie boarding.

Since the ships are all pretty similar, you can find the FlowRiders on each ship on deck 16, right in the back of the ship. They are in both corners, and in the middle of them is the Wipe Out Bar. So after a splash and good few wipeouts, you can relax with your beverage of choice while you continue to watch others attempt the same thing.

I really like how you can also look out into the sea as you ride, or as you wait. You are right on the back deck with the best back view! You can even look down and see the theatre below. There is also a small section to sit and watch the FlowRider for instructional classes or as parents.

The Quantum Class FlowRiders

@royalcaribbeanaunz Do you have what it takes to stay on FlowRider? 😎 📷:@emily_vsthe_world #cruise #holidayineveryway #travel #fyp #holiday #cruisetok #royalcaribbean ♬ original sound – royalcaribbeanaunz

Ships in this Class:  Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, Spectrum Of The Seas, Odyssey Of The Seas, and Anthem of the Seas

Located at the rear of each ship of the Quantum Class, on deck 16 (the top deck), you will find the FlowRider Surf Simulator. These FlowRiders are placed perfectly centered at the back of the ship, and as you surf you are up about 8 stairs in height so you can surf and see out into the ocean perfectly.

There is a glass/wood railing that surrounds the FlowRider around, making it the perfect area to stand around and watch people surf. Down bottom, there is a huge bench from end to end where you can sit to watch, or it is the perfect sitting location for group instructional lessons.

What I love about this area of the ships is you have the action activities like FlowRiding, and just behind the FlowRider is the RipCord Indoor Skydiving by iFly. These are two amazing adventures you need to try when on board!

The Freedom Class FlowRiders

Ships in this Class: Freedom of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, and Liberty of the Seas

These sister ships all have one FlowRider located at the rear of deck 13. The FlowRider is perfectly centered at the back and it is near the Perfect Storm/Tidal Wave water slides, sports court, and a rock climbing wall.

At the FlowRider, there are seats on each side you can relax and watch your friends wipe out. Plus, there is a bench at the base where you can also sit, which is often used for the riders during group lessons.

Watch from behind he FlowRider as well, the railing allows you to lean over and just enjoy the show! The location of the FlowRider is also great as a rider because you get to see out in the ocean as you sesh, super cool and unique in my opinion.

The Voyager Class FlowRiders

Ships in this Class: Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, and Adventure of the Seas

The Voyager Class had some great upgrades making these smaller, but amazing ships new and improved for much more fun! They now have the Perfect Storm waterslides, laser tag, Studio B ice rinks, and more!

Regarding the FlowRider wave machines, you can find the single one at the very back of deck 13. This FlowRider has a great canopy-covered seating area on both sides, as well as a perfect standing-room railing area for viewing.

Just nearby the FlowRider you also have other great activities like the Perfect Storm waterslides, mini golf (some ships), SkyClimber (some ships), sports court, and the rock climbing wall.

Similar to other FlowRiders on the other ships, you get a great ocean view on this FlowRider as you are surfing.

As of 2023, Royal Caribean has 28 ships, and out of 28 ships, 20 of them have a FlowRider on them. There are 24 Royal Caribbean FlowRiders in total because four ships have two machines.

All the larger ships, you will find the FlowRiders on deck 16 in the very back, and the smaller ships from the Freedom Class and Voyager Class, you will find them in the back on deck 13.

Enjoy your FlowRider sesh on your next Royal Caribean cruise; if you want to learn more about the Royal Caribbean FlowRider private sessions and the costs, read our full article here.

Carnival may copy popular Royal Caribbean offer

C arnival and Royal Caribbean are the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox of the cruise industry, except it's hard to know which company is the market leader. Both cruise lines dominate the family cruise market and have millions of passengers in their loyalty program.

In many ways, the cruise space has become an arms race with Carnival and Royal trying to outdo each other. Carnival added a roller coaster to its Excel-class ships so Royal Caribbean built the biggest waterpark at sea on its latest ship, Icon of the Seas.

Related: Carnival Cruise Line shuts down illegal on-board activity

The two companies won't admit they're throwing haymakers at each other trying for a knockout, but they do seem to compete for the same customers. It's very much like Disney World and Universal Studios trying to add the latest rides and the freshest intellectual property.

Not every move made by the competing cruise lines involves building bigger, better ships and new private destinations. Royal Caribbean  ( RCL )  has scored a big hit both in terms of revenue and social media coverage with its ongoing Ultimate World Cruise.

The sailing, which could be purchased as a whole or in segments, promised to be the adventure of a lifetime.

"You can spend 274 nights bonding with like-minded explorers over global discoveries across all seven continents. Or pick a corner of the globe and explore every inch of it on one of four Ultimate World Cruise segments — each an immersive voyage of 60+ nights. Connect with countless distinct cultures, soak up the most spectacular landscapes on Earth, and marvel at World Wonders that showcase mankind’s boundless imagination," the cruise line shared.

Carnival hints at a World Cruise

Royal Caribbean's Deluxe World Cruise has gotten a lot of social media attention because it's fascinating for people to spend so much time together in a confined space. It's an event that has led to a lot of drama, but the coverage has gotten the cruise line a lot of attention.

Carnival does not have a comparable cruise. It's longest cruises are repositioning trips where ships move from Australia to Seattle. Carnival Luminosa regularly makes that trip back and forth each year.

The cruise line's brand ambassador John Heald threw out the idea of a potential world cruise on his Facebook page.

I wonder if it’s time for us to consider doing a world cruise? 150 days. I wonder if we could fill a Spirit Class ship? Could anyone, would anyone do this with us?

Spirit-class ships are smaller Carnival ships designed to be sailed in any weather. They have an indoor main pool area so passengers can still swim in colder climates.

Carnival customers respond to a world cruise

Heald only posts speculative things to his Facebook page when he wants a reaction. His followers did not disappoint. Many like the idea of a world cruise, but question the logistics.

"I would love to do a world cruise. My challenge today is that I don’t have that much vacation time. If ship internet was to the point that I could be confident I’d be able to work remotely, I’d definitely consider it! Especially if there’s a business center those of us who have to work can use so that we don’t disturb our spouses in our cabins if we have to work overnight due to the time differences," Heather Corson Moffo wrote.

Many posters seemed to like the idea of sailing the world on a Spirit-class ship.

"If I was retired, I’d do this in a heartbeat! Especially Spirit class (perfect size!!)," wrote Tracey McPhee.

"I’d be there in a heartbeat!!! Especially on a Spirit class, our favorite!!!!!!!," posted a clearly enthusiastic Tonja Senn.

The post garnered over 1,650 comments with nearly all being in support of the idea of Carnival offering a world cruise.
