Cruise Ship Jobs for Couples

Working on a cruise ship with your significant other may seem like a dream come true. Getting paid to travel and spending lots of time together is what may first come to mind, but is that the reality? How difficult is it for a couple to get hired and work on a cruise ship together? Here are some facts on how to apply and get hired for cruise jobs as a couple.

Working on a Cruise Ship as a Couple

There are plenty of challenges when it comes to working and living as a couple on a cruise ship. There are some cruise jobs where you may not be able to share a cabin together. You and your spouse may have different contract lengths and completely opposite shifts. Will you even accept a contract if you aren’t on the same ship?

Cruise recruiters also want to make sure that if they are hiring a couple that there won’t be relationship problems that will interfere with your work. Furthermore, will you be able to handle this unique life onboard?

Cruise Jobs for Couples

Although couples can choose to apply for two different cruise jobs based on what their varied experience is, there is another option. A handful of cruise jobs may be held by couple if the couple is willing to work as a team. Even though this means only one salary, some of the commission based cruise jobs offer a chance to make a healthy salary.

There are many examples on different cruise ships where a husband-wife team or common-law partners work onboard together covering the same cruise job. Some of the most popular options are the Art Auctioneer, Port Shopping Guide, Guest Lecturer or Cruise Sales Manager. One big benefit is that each of these jobs is entitled to their own cabin meaning the couple doesn’t have to be split up, sharing a cabin with someone else.

Typically, cruise lines and their concessions don’t mind hiring couples to cover these particular cruise jobs. It’s like they are getting two people for the price of one. This is one feature a couple should promote during the application process. They should highlight the fact that they can sell more as a couple.

Cruise Line Couples Policy

Onboard Media, the concession that hires Port and Shopping Guides, states their Couples Policy on their website:

“At the time of submitting your application, you MUST include in your cover letter ?your intention of completing a contract as a couple. All applications for couples must include resumes of both candidates along with a video audition featuring the primary candidate and introducing the partner.”

Comparatively, Carnival Cruise Lines website employment pages answer the question, ‘Does Carnival hire couples?’ as follows:

“Carnival Cruise Lines is a very ‘couple friendly’ cruise line, and endeavors to allow couples to work on the same ship whenever possible. For prospective couples seeking employment with Carnival, for the first contract it may prove difficult to keep them together on the same ship as contracts are completed at different times. Further, Carnival prefers to assess employees as individuals before committing to hiring them as couples. Once couples have completed their first contract, Carnival will try its best to place them together for future contracts. However, there are many factors involved and this is not guaranteed.”

Applying For Cruise Jobs as a Couple

If you do want to pursue a cruise job that you would perform jointly then you would apply jointly as well. For the cruise jobs mentioned above, some cruise lines allow a couple to work together. You must specify this to the recruiter at the application and interview process.

A couple with two different types of expertise may also apply separately. Unfortunately this means that one of you could get hired before the other one. You may be hired to work on different ships. And, one half of the couple may not get hired at all. In the case where both partners must work on different ships for the first contract, they may ask to be put on the same ship for their second contract. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees.

There is a way to increase your chances of working on the same ship when applying for two different cruise jobs. After both partners have had their respective interviews with the recruiter is a good time to explain your situation. If you try to explain before hand, the recruiter may feel that your situation is too complicated.

Once both of you have proven that you are right for your respective jobs during an interview then the cruise line recruiter may be willing to make it work for you. On the other hand, you could choose to be upfront with the recruitment agency from the start. In that case you need to apply with a cover letter that represents you as a couple.

Cover Letter for Couples Applying for Cruise Jobs

Depending on the cruise jobs that the couple is applying for will determine the type of cover letter that should be sent. For couples that are applying as a couple, such as for the Port and Shopping Guide, follow the instructions given by Onboard Media above.

In cases where the couple is applying for two separate jobs, it is up to the couple if they want to disclose the fact sooner than later. When working with a recruitment agency, the couple may choose to enclose a joint cover letter with two separate resumes. The cover letter would specify that you are looking to get hired together.

Cruise Ship Careers as a Couple

Once you have completed at least one contract on a cruise ship, you may think that it should get easier to work together onboard. It seems reasonable to think that once an agency or the cruise line sees that you are committed to the job that it would be easy to get placed on the ship together. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.

Although this may work in your favour if you work together as a team, the same doesn’t hold true for employees working in different departments. Consider that one person may be advancing with their career while the other may not be able to be promoted if they intend to stay on the same ship. There are plenty of pros and cons of working onboard as a couple.

drawing of travel couple housesitting

Perhaps one of the best travel jobs for couples abroad with accommodation is housesitting.

What if you were able to stay for free in a fully furnished (and potentially luxurious) home — complete with wifi, cable, a kitchen, and everything you need to live comfortably abroad?

In exchange, all you have to do is look after someone’s house and pets while they’re away.

Housesitting is an awesome way for couples to score free accommodation abroad because it can be super easy. That means you’ll have plenty of time to explore (or catch up on your digital nomad jobs ).

It’s also flexible. You can opt for long- or short-term housesitting jobs, ranging from a few days to several months. Heck, even if you’re not traveling, it’s one of the best housing alternatives to live cheaply .

Some examples of common housesitting responsibilities can include:

✔️ Taking care of the house ✔️ Getting the mail ✔️ Cleaning ✔️ Watering plants ✔️ Feeding pets ✔️ Walking dogs and letting them out to use the bathroom

I even know of digital nomads who built their entire business while housesitting on tropical Caribbean islands. So if you’re looking for island jobs for couples with free accommodation, this could be your solution.

Housesitter pay

In most cases, there’s no pay involved. You look after the house and pet in exchange for free accommodation. If your responsibilities take an hour or so per day, this is a pretty great deal if it allows you to live in a house that would cost $100+/per night on Airbnb.

If the assignment requires more work than average, the host may offer a daily stipend in addition to accommodation. And if it’s a long-term arrangement and you win their trust, they may even give you free access to their car as well.

How to become a house sitter

The easiest way to find housesitting jobs is to sign up for a housesitting platform.

Some of the best worldwide sites are Trusted House Sitters , House Carers , and Mind My House .

There are also housesitting sites that focus on specific countries, like Aussie House Sitters in Australia and Kiwi House Sitters in New Zealand.

drawing of a couple working as an aupair while traveling

Do you and your partner like kids?

If so, working as an au pair is an awesome option for you.

An au pair is someone who stays with a family (often abroad). They help with childcare and other household responsibilities in exchange for a place to stay, meals, a stipend, and the cultural experience of living with natives.

Some examples of responsibilities include:

✔️ Laundry ✔️ Cooking ✔️ Cleaning ✔️ Babysitting ✔️ Playing with kids ✔️ Driving kids to school

Your workday depends on what the family needs help with. You might be tasked with daytime work such as babysitting children too young for school while the parents are at work. Or they also might assign you the “evening shift” after school hours, where you help with supper, cleaning, or even homework.

Working as an au pair with your partner could be a wonderful way to spend your days together as a couple. You will either stay in a room in the family’s house, or they can set you up with accommodations elsewhere.

Keep in mind, while it’s possible to find au pair assignments for couples, there are relatively few opportunities. It’s usually a big family or one that has too much work for just one person.

If you do find a family that accepts couples, you may not be allowed to share the same room. Make sure you discuss all these details in your contract before you sign.

Au pair pay

The pay for an au pair is all over the board. It depends on where you are in the world, your responsibilities, and what the family is willing to pay for your services.

A rough ballpark would be $100 to $200 in “pocket money” per week, plus food and accommodation.

Here’s how it can vary from country to country:

Australia 200 – 250 AUD / week

Canada 330 CAD / week

United States 195 USD minimum per week

United Kingdom 80 – 85 GBP per week

Spain 70 EUR minimum per week

Germany 280 EUR per month

For a complete list of country pay ranges, check out this guide by Au Pair World .

How to find work as an au pair

Most au pairs find their work through au pair job sites.

Some of the best sites are Au Pair America , EurAuPair , and Au Pair World .

You’ll usually have to create two separate profiles, one for you and one for your partner. In each of your applications, explain that you are looking for a couple-friendly position. For a higher success rate, start by searching for “au pair couple” jobs on each platform.

drawing of a couple working hostel travel jobs

If you and your partner are interested in hospitality, hostel work could be a fun way to score free accommodation — especially if you’re a social couple that loves to meet other travelers.

Most hostels are social by nature, so introverts beware. For a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, you may be able to score work in a guest house.

✔️ Cooking ✔️ Cleaning ✔️ Reception ✔️ Bartending ✔️ Fixing things ✔️ Running social events

Hostel work pay

Most hostels offer you only free room and board. If you’re lucky, you may get free food and drinks as well.

If they paid you, you’d have to get a work visa. And that just complicates the situation. Most couples who work in hostels are volunteers. That said, if you find somewhere you’d like to work long-term, it may be possible to get a visa and start earning.

We met an English guy in Cambodia who fell in love with a party hostel while traveling. He started as a volunteer, then the owner ended up promoting him to bigger and better jobs. Now he runs an entire chain of luxury bungalow resorts across Cambodia!

How to get a job at a hostel

Start by searching on Worldpackers (use code UNTETHERED for discount), Helpx , or Workaway . And if you’re ever traveling and find a destination or hostel you especially like, ask if they could use an extra hand.

drawing of one of the best travel jobs for couples, working on a cruise ship

Working on a cruise ship can be an absolute dream for perpetual wanderlusters — at least for those who have their sea legs.

Not only that, cruise companies like Carnival even have options for couples who want to work together as a team.

Most cruises allow you to share a cabin as a couple, but others might split you up. Make sure you get all the details ahead of time so you know exactly what to expect — you wouldn’t want to end up on entirely different cruise ships!

Cruise jobs come in all shapes and sizes. Some require experience (e.g., cruise medical staff, chef), while others don’t (e.g., entertainment team, waitstaff, bartending, cleaning).

Cruise job pay

Free accommodation, food, and possibly even free flights to and from the ship.

Pay varies based on your position. For most entry-level jobs, you’re looking at $1,400 to $3,000 per month. Earning $3000 a month or less may not sound like much for full-time work, but since your basic living expenses are covered, most of it goes straight into your pocket.

Your earnings also depend on your experience and how luxurious your cruise ship is.

How to find work on a cruise

Decide which cruise company you’d like to work for and the destinations you’d like to see. Make sure the company allows couples to work together, then apply on their website with a polished resume.

To find the best jobs possible and avoid common mistakes, check out this detailed guide by a cruise industry pro.

drawing of a couple working at a ski chalet

Looking for resort jobs for married couples?

Working at a ski resort may be just the job for you.

If you and your partner dream of snowy travel in the Alps or a ski town, then hosting a chalet could be your free ticket there.

A chalet is a lodge often found in ski resorts. Groups going on ski vacations rent chalets, and your job is to host them.

Your responsibilities as a chalet host are similar to jobs you’d find in a hotel:

✔️ Cooking ✔️ Cleaning ✔️ Catering to the guests

If you choose a small chalet, you and your partner may host the entire place by yourself. In bigger chalets, you work in teams with other hosts and share responsibilities.

The best part?

In your free time, you can hit the slopes. This makes it one of the best adventure jobs for couples.

Just keep in mind that if you and your partner are hosting a chalet on your own, you won’t have anyone to cover for you. This might make it tricky to go exploring together as a couple.

Ski chalet pay

Don’t expect much. Rates vary, but expect around $100 to $200 per week. But keep in mind, you’re also getting free accommodation, meals, ski passes (maybe), and tips from guests.

How to become a chalet host

There are two ways to become a chalet host:

1️⃣ Apply to a company directly with a great resume. The best resumes for potential chalet hosts are those that have hospitality experience. If needed, you can take courses online to spruce up your resume.   2️⃣ Search for opportunities on job sites like VIP-Chalets , Ski World , and Neilson .

And for more details on working specifically in Canada , check out our guide on how to do a ski season in Canada .

drawing of a couple picking fruit while traveling

Does it get more romantic than working and staying at a vineyard?

I think not.

Grape picking (or fruit picking of any kind) is a perfect travel job for married couples who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.

If you both enjoy the outdoors and don’t want to spend your days cooped up inside, fruit picking is a unique opportunity.

Your job description is pretty much in the title — picking grapes. These grapes are then sent to winemakers. In fact, some grape picking jobs may even offer free wine.

Be warned, grape picking isn’t easy. And there will likely be some heavy lifting involved. At least you’ll be able to skip the gym!

It’s also a very social travel job. You and your partner will be picking fruit alongside plenty of other backpackers and travelers across the globe.

Fruit picking pay

Pay varies significantly depending on the country you’re working in and whether or not your job has accommodation. Since your goal is to find free accommodation, you might take a pay cut.

Don’t expect much more than minimum wage for the country you’re in. You won’t get rich, but it’s a unique way to experience a country and keep your travel fund topped up.

How to become a grape (or fruit) harvester

The two best options are:

1️⃣ Reach out directly to vineyards or farms and ask if they trade work for free (or reimbursed) accommodation. 2️⃣ Search sites like GumTree to find job listings.

Keep in mind, many countries require a work visa. The easiest way to get these is to choose countries with Working Holiday visa programs. And if you’re interested in Japan, check out this guide on how to find fruit picking jobs in Japan .

drawing of guy teaching English on a chalkboard

Are you and your partner native English speakers?

If so, you can make money from pretty much anywhere.

You can teach English online while traveling , or you can teach in person. One of the best countries to teach English is South Korea because they’re known for providing accommodation for their teachers. This makes it super easy to save money fast.

Plus, South Korea is famous for some awesome stuff , so it’s impossible to get bored.

Teaching English is a great way to see the world if your funds are limited. Teach by day, and explore on nights and weekends.

After you complete your contract, use your savings to travel for a few weeks (or months) until you start another contract. Rinse and repeat.

English teacher pay

Rates vary by country.

Your wage can range anywhere from just breaking even to thousands of dollars of savings per month. Some programs even cover your travel expenses to and from the country.

This free brochure has tons of great information about teaching in different countries.

How to become an English teacher

Choose a country. Check out the types of teaching jobs available in that country.

As most of these jobs require a TEFL certificate, make sure to take a TEFL course. Here is the one I took and loved (save $50 on tuition with coupon code : UNTETHERED ). And here is a cheaper option , albeit less comprehensive.

Apply to the school directly, or work with a recruiter who can help place you in programs in different countries.

If you’re looking for location-independent jobs , you can also teach online (but you won’t get free accommodation unless you combine it with something else on this list).

Start by checking out platforms like iTalki and Cambly . Once you gain experience, shift into your own private freelance clients to increase your earning potential.

Volunteering is a great way to travel to a country you’ve been dying to explore, save money, and do some good in the world.

Your responsibilities as a volunteer are potentially endless.

You can work outdoor jobs such as farm work, planting trees, or even caring for animals. Or you might find yourself helping out in schools, food kitchens, or construction projects.

You could even volunteer digital services, like web design, in exchange for room and board.

It’s all just a matter of finding places that trade couple-friendly work for accommodation.

Volunteering pay

It probably goes without saying, but it’s just accommodations and meals for this one.

How to become a volunteer

One way to find volunteer work is through an agency. For example, Plan My Gap Year has opportunities in childcare, English teaching, wildlife conservation, and community projects in places such as Bali, Vietnam, Ghana, and Sri Lanka.

There are plenty of other organizations as well, just be careful to do your research. Some require an initial fee to join a program, which is fine, but make sure you know what you’re getting into.

Similar to hostel work, you can also use Worldpackers, Helpx, and Workaway to search for volunteer opportunities. Before signing up for anything, make sure to read this guide on how to stay safe on Workaway .

Lastly, there are endless stories of travelers who stumble across a hotel or restaurant that needs a website, photography, or some form of marketing help. Keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to offer your services. You never know who might be willing to give you a place to stay in exchange for your help.

drawing of a travel couple working as caretakers

Contrary to what many people think when they hear the word “caretaker”, it doesn’t always involve taking care of a person .

You can also care for buildings.

Caretaking responsibilities have quite the range:

✔️ Gardening ✔️ Cleaning ✔️ Cooking ✔️ Caring for the elderly, or anyone who needs special care ✔️ Pet sitting ✔️ House maintenance ✔️ Childcare

For example, in Colombia, many families have “fincas” (like vacation homes or cottages up in the mountains). Fincas are a lot of work, and owners hire live-in caretakers and groundskeepers to hold down the fort.

Here’s an amazing finca we stayed at. Imagine getting paid to live here. In fact, if you are experienced with farming and growing fruits and vegetables, shoot us a message. The owner is looking for some help!

Caretaking pay

Some caretaking positions just earn you accommodation and meals. Others give you a stipend as well.

Any stipend will depend on your responsibilities and the cost of living in the country you’re traveling in.

How to become a caretaker

Search for caretaking websites that cover the region you’d like to stay in.

You may have some luck on Worldpackers, HelpX, and Workaway. You can also check out Working Couples , which caters specifically to couple-friendly positions.

Lastly, just ask around while traveling. The more people you talk to, the more opportunities you’ll find.

No, when I tell you to WWOOF, I don’t mean bark like a dog.

WWOOFing stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. It’s a volunteer program in 120+ countries that helps connect volunteers with organic farmers. In exchange for your help on the farm, you live with a host family for free.

If you and your partner enjoy the outdoors and are looking for an immersive experience in a new land, put WWOOF at the top of your list.

Some examples of responsibilities can include:

✔️ Planting ✔️ Making compost ✔️ Sowing seeds ✔️ Weeding ✔️ Cutting wood ✔️ Harvesting ✔️ Winemaking

It’s hard work, but oftentimes it’s only for a few hours each day. After that, you’re free to explore.

Free accommodation and meals.

How to become a WWOOFer

Head on over to the WWOOF website , choose a destination, and start reaching out to hosts

As you can see, there are many ways to work abroad and score free accommodation as a couple.

It’s important to remember that if you want to actually get paid for the work you do abroad, you need some sort of work visa. Sure, you could work under the table, but I won’t recommend anything that could get you in trouble with the law.

That means most jobs fall on the volunteer side of the spectrum. Fortunately, these are usually pretty easy and don’t require much time commitment. This gives you and your lover more opportunities to explore (and do other stuff that lovers do).

If none of these options appeal to you, you could also become digital nomads, like me and my wife.

This lets you earn money while you travel, without the need for a work visa (unless you want to stay in a country longer term, in which case you can head to one of these awesome countries with freelance visas ).

While you won’t score free accommodation with a digital nomad job, you can earn plenty of money to pay for it yourself. And if you don’t want to worry about planning your accommodation, you can even join organized digital nomad programs to take care of everything for you.

To get started, read my ultimate guide on how to become a digital nomad for beginners . It is literally the most comprehensive free guide on the internet (you’re welcome!).

Can Married Couples Work on Cruise Ships Together?

By Robert Palmer

Are you and your spouse looking for a new adventure? Have you ever considered working on a cruise ship together? It’s not uncommon for married couples to work on cruise ships, but there are some things you need to know before taking the plunge.

Yes, married couples can work on cruise ships together. However, it’s important to note that not all cruise lines allow it. Some cruise lines have policies that prohibit spouses from working in the same department or onboard the same ship altogether.

If you’re interested in working on a cruise ship with your spouse, the first step is to research which cruise lines allow it. You can do this by checking the cruise line’s website or contacting their human resources department directly.

Benefits of Working on a Cruise Ship as a Couple

Working on a cruise ship as a couple has its advantages. Here are some benefits:

  • You get to travel and explore new destinations together
  • You can save money by sharing accommodations
  • You have built-in support and companionship during long contracts
  • You may be able to negotiate better contracts if you’re both hired by the same company

Challenges of Working on a Cruise Ship as a Couple

Working and living in close quarters with your spouse can also present challenges. Here are some potential downsides:

  • You may have little personal space or time alone
  • You could become overly dependent on each other, which could strain your relationship
  • If one of you has difficulty adjusting to life onboard, it could impact the other person’s experience as well
  • If one of you is promoted or given more responsibility than the other, it could create tension or resentment

Final Thoughts

If you and your spouse are considering working on a cruise ship together, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons carefully. Talk openly about your expectations and concerns before making a decision. If you do decide to pursue this opportunity, make sure to research the cruise line’s policies and requirements thoroughly.

Couples working together on a cruise ship

  • Scarlet Perez
  • 18 September 2011

Many relationships form and break while working onboard a cruise ship. However, maybe you are planning to embark on the adventure of working at sea with your partner.

Over the recent past years cruise lines have become more couple friendly. 10 or 15 years ago, some cruise lines discouraged having couples onboard. There was no flexibility in assigning a two bed cabin to a couple. I have met married couples, who didn't have a cabin together but shared their living space with same sex room mates.

Everyone can understand that this arrangement is not the best – not for the couple and not for the other room mates.

Couples working together on a cruise ship

Some department heads managed to transfer one of the parners to another ship - which is also a very counterproductive way to encourage crew members.

In these cases the work performance suffers greatly. Luckily the most cruise lines have recognized that, and when a relationship does not interfere with onboard hierarchy, work performance and the general code of conduct, couples are well received.

When you apply as a couple, do so in saying this straight forward in your application letter. Mention the name of your partner, the position he/she will apply for and that you would like to work onboard the same ship, with a contract which starts and ends around the same dates.

You also should pay attention to what contract length is offered for different positions. If one applies as Hotel Manager and the other as Cabin Steward, chances are, that the one will get a 4 month contract, the other a 6 month contract. This means, spending your vacations together will not happen too often.

Some cruise lines are more open to applications from couples than others. Each cruise line always reserves the right to send each employee to where he or she is needed the most at a specific time. It also happens that one part of the couple needs to start a contract earlier than another.

So be prepared for a possibility of being separated for some time even if you manage to get contracts to work on the same ship.

It is important to be open and clear about applying as a couple in your applications. If you both have the relevant previous work experience, applying as a couple should not be a negative factor.

  • Cruise ships keep on expanding their itineraries to include more and more ports around the world.
  • In the last couple of years, the cruise ship industry has added seventeen new ports of call in the United States, including Baltimore, New Orleans, Mobile, Charleston, and New York City.

The Best Resources For Travel Jobs

Jobs

Plenty of travel jobs are available if you’re looking to explore the world while still earning an income. From working as a digital nomad to becoming an overseas English teacher, there are several ways to start your journey around the globe and earn money. Fortunately, there are countless resources to help make your decision easier. Websites like Remote Work Hub and Escape the City offer detailed listings of remote job openings. Other organizations (such as Go Overseas and ESL Cafe) help connect applicants with teaching opportunities abroad.

Considering a unique experience such as volunteering with Volunteer Forever or Teach Away? These sites have great resources for exploring those kinds of options too! Ultimately, with some time and research, finding travel jobs that perfectly fit your skillset and interests is easy.

One thing that tends to limit individuals when it comes to taking on travel jobs is that they’re usually done solo. But why not make your journey around the world a shared adventure? Here are some of the best travel job ideas for couples looking to explore together:

Teaching English Abroad

Jobs

Teaching English abroad is an experience many couples have found incredibly enriching. Not only do they have the opportunity to travel and experience new cultures, but they also get to give back by sharing important language skills with people abroad. For many couples, this unique combination of travel and service makes teaching English abroad one of the best career paths for traveling together. It allows them to explore and learn while also developing their professional credentials.

In addition, the lengthy time duration of most English teaching contracts allows them to immerse themselves in the culture and build meaningful connections with those they meet along their travels. With all these benefits, it is no wonder why so many couples find teaching English abroad fulfilling for their combined travel and learning needs.

Jobs

Au pairing for a couple can serve as an amazing adventure of travel and anticipation. With the opportunity to work in different countries worldwide, au pairs can experience life in a new environment –from savoring the local cuisine to discovering ways of life distinct from their own. Working as an au pair also allows couples to immerse themselves in a new culture and develop skills that will be useful during future travels.

Not only do they experience something completely different, but they also gain rewarding first-hand experiences working with children, something that may benefit them personally and professionally in their future endeavors. As such, being an au pair is one of the best travel jobs for couples seeking something unique and inspiring.

Jobs

Not only does a job as a tour guide provide an opportunity for partners to share a unique experience, but it also gives them a chance to get paid while they wander stunning landscapes and cultural centers. Tour guides receive training introducing them to new people and cultures while honing their communication skills. Guiding tourists also teaches valuable business management concepts like budgeting, scheduling, customer service, and marketing.

Moreover, the flexibility of touring allows the couple to set their schedule that works with their dynamic lifestyle – whether they wish to hit up several countries within weeks or stay in one place for long-term exploration. Ultimately, leading tours give couples an amazing way to work abroad without having to make sacrifices in terms of employment and financial stability.

Cruise Ship Work

Jobs

Working on a cruise ship can be an amazing job experience for couples. The best part is that you gain the opportunity to explore exotic places while still being able to be together. Working onboard ships gives you the benefit of living and traveling simultaneously, which is often more affordable than simply taking a vacation. One way or another, you’ll get where you want to go at no cost and with zero hassle, so there are untold advantages to cruise ship work when it comes to travel.

You also don’t need prior experience for most jobs—any education, certification, or expertise related to cruise ship functioning is taught on board. Various positions, from bartenders to entertainers and engineers, are available for couples who want to work together aboard a cruise ship.

Fruit Picking

Jobs

Although it is not the most glamorous job, fruit picking is an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding experience. Not only do you get to explore the countryside and meet new people, but you also get paid while doing it. Fruit picking requires little to no prior experience or education. So long as you have the dedication to work hard and a good eye for detail, this could be a great job opportunity for couples exploring the outdoors.

Fruit picking also allows you to immerse yourself in a new culture and learn about different ways of life. Furthermore, as the seasons change, different areas will require your service, so the opportunity to travel and explore new places is always there.

Hosting At A Chalet

Jobs

Finally, getting a job as a host at a chalet can be one of the best ways to experience the great outdoors while also earning money. Hosts are responsible for caring for guests in a resort setting and ensuring an enjoyable stay. They must be attentive, friendly, and resourceful to provide excellent service. However, the benefits of this job far outweigh the drawbacks.

Being a host allows couples to explore new places, meet people worldwide, and learn valuable customer service skills that they can use in future professional endeavors. And if that isn’t enough, partners also get to take in the breathtaking views of majestic mountains and lush forests.

Explore The World With These Travel Jobs For Couples!

The beauty of travel is that it offers a variety of job opportunities for couples seeking something unique and inspiring. From teaching English to cruise ship workers and fruit pickers to chalet hosts – there are countless ways to explore the world while getting paid. Ultimately, these travel jobs for couples are a great way to make money and create lasting memories. So why not give them a try? Just remember to stay safe, be prepared and have fun!

What Are The 8 Best Travel Jobs For Couples?

Kezia Farnham

Is it time to take that next step with your other half? If so, keep reading. Travelling abroad has a tendency to make sparks fly and romance ever-present. Yet, overseas jobs for couples go beyond ‘butterflies’. It helps you get to know your partner at a deeper level. That is why we have created a list of the eight best travel jobs for couples.

1) Cruise Ship

Jobs-on-a-cruise-for-couples

Working on a cruise ship is an exciting option for couples. Not only can you explore lots of countries but the ship offers many jobs for couples overseas. The versatility of job opportunities is extensive. For example, you can find jobs in hospitality and entertainment, media and production, engineering and security (to name a few).

However, working on a cruise ship isn’t for everyone. You will not be spending enough time in each country to fully experience ‘living abroad’. Instead, you will get a small taste of many countries. Additionally, you are stuck on a boat for large quantities of time with your partner, colleagues, other crew and the passengers. Of course, it’s a no-go for people who easily get sea-sick!

Working abroad as an au-pair can be a rewarding experience. The biggest misconception is that this role is only for women. It definitely isn’t! These days, more and more men are applying. Parents want to find excellent male role models for their children, particularly if the father isn’t in the kid's lives.

Your accommodation and food are taken care of by the host family, which gives you one less thing to worry about! You will receive a weekly stipend to cover your additional living costs and will be required to take classes in a local college. This is a fantastic way to get a feel for the culture as you will be immersed in the family’s traditions and way of life.

On the flip side, you may struggle to find a host-family willing to accommodate you as a couple. Some families will not allow boyfriends or girlfriends to come back to their home at all. Therefore, it is not the best option for couples who are used to living together. Additionally, you do not make much money (so spend it wisely).

Working in a hostel is a great place for couples who are down to earth and want to meet a variety of people. Working in a hostel allows you to share a room with your partner, either privately or with others. However, you also get the opportunity to get to know the locals and become familiar with the area.

However, it is not a luxury stay (you can leave the designer clothes at home). The kitchens vary in cleanliness and amenities, so it’s worth checking these before you make arrangements. As with work as an au-pair or cruise ship, working and living in the same location can be intrusive.

4) Teach Abroad

teaching abroad

Photo Credit: Syda Productions / Shutterstock

Teaching abroad is one of the best jobs for couples abroad. As a couple, you can receive free travel, earn a good wage and have plenty of time to explore a new country (there are many locations to choose from). You both can teach a subject you are already familiar with or go down the traditional route and teach English .

It is a brilliant way to get to know the locals as you will be interacting with parents, co-workers and external parties throughout your role. Additionally, you will be staying in one location long enough to truly gain the living and working abroad experience.

If you want to make money while travelling, teaching abroad is one the best ways to do it! You can earn up to £4150 per month (sometimes, tax-free). Popular locations include Brazil , Thailand , China and Dubai . What’s more, you don’t have to be qualified and it is a straightforward process to apply to teach overseas .

What are the downsides? Most contracts run for the minimum of one year, so this isn’t a short-term option. Additionally, as with any foreign country, you may feel homesick at times. This is particularly the case when you are abroad for extended periods of time. However, having your partner by your side will make things easier!

5) Digital Nomad

Digital nomad works on laptop from beach

Photo Credit: Roma Black / Shutterstock

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a digital nomad? If you are the entrepreneurial type, this option could be up your street. For example, you could work as a blogger, vlogger or web designer. Alternatively, you could be a consultant or online-shop owner. We think that being a digital nomad is one of the best travel jobs for couples. Why?

As a couple, you have the flexibility to go wherever you want in the world. There are no time-limits (other than visa constrictions) and it still gives you the freedom to live in the same home. You can submerge yourself in different cultures or simply hop from place to place. All the while, you will be enhancing your creative portfolio and make a great wage!

What are the downsides? Well, this option can be very unsettling. Not only due to consistently moving, but also due to finances. Unless you are already an established freelancer, there may be financial inconsistencies. We recommend keeping a ‘rainy day’ fund to compensate for periods of low-income. Yet, this is one of the most flexible overseas jobs for couples.

6) Bartending

beach bar abroad for couples

What do you think of when someone says they are bartending on a beach overseas? The British bartender in Australia is a very stereotypical image. However, you are not limited to one country. Bartending is a fun way to travel, one of the top travel jobs when you are in a relationship. You meet loads of people and will be invited to parties with your new mates.

However, one of the downsides to bartending is that you spend most of your evenings working! You are serving people who are enjoying themselves rather than vice versa. The pay isn’t on the high-end, with the average Australian bartender making £10 to £11 per hour. However, that is enough to enjoy the day at the beach with your loved one!

7) Exchange programmes and apprenticeships

Overseas jobs for couples in Bangkok

If you are early in your career, an exchange programme could be extremely beneficial for you and your partner. It is up to you to choose the same exchange programme or different ones. You could expand your career prospects by participating in a Business apprenticeship in Bangkok. Or perhaps, explore the arts in Europe?

Many exchange programmes operate in a similar fashion to that of an Au-Pair. The fundamental issue is that it is a low-pay opportunity. However, you will gain valuable skills to boost your career. An internship abroad is a great way to enhance your CV whilst travelling at the same time. Ultimately, this is great for recent graduates who are looking for overseas jobs as a couple.

8) One-off opportunities

On-off-opportunities-for-couples-to-work-abroad

There are many unique opportunities for couples to work overseas together. For example, there are house-sitting jobs available. These positions often require gardening, cleaning and light administrative work. This could be for a castle in France or a cosy cottage in Switzerland (you name it).

That's our 8 best travel jobs for couples. We hope this has inspired you to the many options available for couples who like to travel.

If you're considering teaching abroad, read ' What Teaching Abroad Qualifications Do You Need to Be an Overseas Teacher? '.

If you already have the qualifications, we have hundreds of teaching jobs abroad  available every day, including our new dedicated TEFL jobs section.

Sights of Elektrostal: the history of the city, what to see, photos and reviews

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

Elektrostal is a fairly large industrial city, which is located near the Vokhonka River and almost 40-50 km from the eastern part of Moscow. There are a lot of powerful factories here, where many residents of Elektrostal work. They are perfectly combined with the most beautiful green boulevards, streets and parks, bright lawns and flower beds that adorn almost the entire town. It is picturesque due to amazing reservoirs and forests. It is worth learning more about the main attractions of Elektrostal, photos of which are in the article.

sights g elektrostal

The city was founded in 1916 thanks to the construction of a metallurgical plant. Previously, this place was the natural boundary of Calm. To start construction, the labor of local peasants was used. In the middle of 1925 herebuilt the first railway line that connected Elektrostal with Moscow. After the onset of 1938, the village turned into a separate city.

It is noteworthy that during the Great Patriotic War, the Electrostal plants produced ammunition that was needed for victory. In particular, it is worth noting the production of the legendary Katyushas.

A new stage for the factories of the city began after the invention of atomic weapons. The local plant was on the list of the main production facilities of the nuclear industry. This led to the fact that in 1954 the production of fuel was launched, which was used for the operation of nuclear power plants.

In 1963, the cultural center "October" was built, and this was done by the masters of the Novo-Kramatorsky plant, named after Stalin. It featured a spacious auditorium that could seat more than 850 people, as well as a unique revolving stage for actors to change scenery in seconds.

At different times, eminent creative groups performed in this cultural center, as well as the Beryozka ensemble, famous at that time. It is noteworthy that even in our time the cultural center is actively functioning, and the square in front of it is considered the most beautiful place in Elektrostal with fountains operating in the summer. In mid-2013, it received the status of a city of labor and military glory.

There are many numerous monuments in the city that tell about the history of this amazing place: a monument to Nikolai Vtorov -the founder of the famous plant "Elektrostal" near the House of Culture, a monument to Tevosyan - the chief engineer, monuments to M. Gorky and K. Marx, a sculpture "Steelworker", a monument to Korneev - Hero of the Soviet Union, as well as a memorial and a monument to soldiers who died in Afghanistan and on North Caucasus.

This is a fairly large and old factory in the city that specializes in the production of fuel for local gas stations. The plant is part of the structure of the company FC "TVEL" of the state corporation "Rosatom". The General Director of the enterprise is O. L. Sedelnikov.

This plant produces nuclear fuel, which is used by many nuclear power plants, transport power plants and research reactors, not only in Russia, but also in other European countries. The company has quality certificates OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001.

The museum of the plant presents its history, shows old photographs of the streets of the city, there are achievements of workers, as well as photos of significant people, there are many of the most interesting models produced at the machine-building plant. It also stores presentations showing the principles of the enterprise.

This temple - a landmark of Elektrostal - is a single-dome centric church, which is made in the style of Byzantine times. It was erected in the 20th century, in the immediate vicinity of St. Andrew's Church. The temple was designed by T. V. Trubnikov and V. A. Drozdov, according to the developments of which the iconostasis and interior were exactly designed.

The church plays the role of a baptismal church and belongs to the Moscow diocese. The main shrines of the church are the most ancient and valuable icons of Nikandor Gorodnoyezersky and the Great Martyr Panteleimon. In addition, particles of the relics of saints are kept here. Divine services are held in the temple only during religious holidays.

The local park - a landmark of Elektrostal is an ideal place where everyone can stay alone with nature, ride numerous attractions, and also spend time playing slot machines. The park is especially popular in the summer - it is full of families, youth companies and couples in love.

Especially for the summer in 2013, the park was re-planned, which made it possible to accommodate more modern entertainment and interesting playgrounds for young visitors. Swimmers will love the dragon and swans, and trampolines have been installed for more active children.

It is noteworthy that the prices in the local park are quite affordable: the cost of a ticket for various attractions ranges from 30-100 rubles. Today it is called "Wonder Park", and it is divided into a quieter "Quiet Alley" and "Entertainment Alley", where there is an inexpensive cafe, a summer stage, and also quite a lot ofattractions.

This cinema is very popular, so it can be called a landmark of Elektrostal. It is located in the shopping center "Elgrad" and consists of 5 spacious halls that can accommodate more than 800 people. To show 2D and 3D films, only modern equipment is used: Dolby Digital Surround EX and MasterImage acoustics, as well as huge screens with a special coating. In all cinema halls, very comfortable conditions for visitors were created: climate control and soft chairs.

In the foyer of the Cinema Gallery there is a play area, a fairly spacious cafe, fast food establishments (Suneki, Tashir-pizza, Rostiks, Kebab-tun, etc.) and popcorn- bar. This is an attractive local leisure center, where the residents of Elektrostal are shown all the latest cinema.

This is a whole complex where you can spend your free time pleasantly and profitably. In addition to the playgrounds, which are fully equipped for playing laser tag and paintball, guests are invited to visit a local cafe where delicious home-cooked dishes are prepared, a banquet menu, karaoke, as well as a relaxing sauna with a warm font.

What do tourists who have visited the city say? It is not tourist, but industrial. Attractions are quite specific, but overall interesting. Tourists were pleased with low prices.

Looking at the photo of the sights of the city of Elektrostal, you may want to go there and spendunforgettable weekend.
