Member Spotlight: Harbor Tours, Inc.
Harbor Tours, Inc. ushers in a new member to the business, a fourth generation of the family’s salty bloodlines: Captain Evan Douglass, great-grandson of the late Fred (“Daunty”) Douglass, a Gloucester mackerel fisherman during the late eighteen hundreds.
Evan’s grandfather was Harbor Tours’ founder Captain Fred Douglass (a fixture on the waters of America’s Oldest Seaport for many decades). The young Douglass has sailed throughout Central and North America and the Caribbean Sea as a crew member on a luxury yacht for the past few years. Prior to graduating from college with a business degree, Evan crewed on one of Gloucester’s whale watch boats for several years. His Dad, Captain Steve, who has been running the company since 1983, welcomes him aboard this 2015 season.
Harbor Tours offers narrated sightseeing trips on their two boats, and also private charters. M/V KING EIDER carries passengers on the Lighthouse Cruise, a 2.5 hour fascinating journey that circles the island, as well as the Gloucester Harbor Tour, a 1.25 hour lovely cruise that tours the entire harbor and features a lobstering demonstration. Harbor Tours also operates the Inner Harbor Water Shuttle. Passengers can hop on and off the M/V LADY JILLIAN at four locations, from St. Peter’s Park to Smith’s Cove in Rocky Neck, and explore Gloucester’s Inner Harbor at their own pace with a $10 all-day ticket. Discounted season’s passes are now available.

Awesome tour on the water shuttle from Captain Steve and First Mate Emily! We expected just a shuttle across the water to eat at the Studio and we were overjoyed to receive history lessons and local stories from Steve and Emily. Absolutely worth $10, and the kids loved it! We'll be back for sure!
This tour was awesome. First time despite 15+ years of annual summer trips to Gloucester! Capt Steve & First Mate Emily were kind, informative, and fun! We saw all the sights of the harbor, including filming of Wicked Tuna! Our whole family had a blast. Well worth the ticket price for a family friendly fun trip!
This IS the thing to do when visiting Gloucester! Caught the first boat out Saturday, about 9 of us onboard. Owner pointed out boats, historical spots, points of interest, lively old salt with lots of stories. $10 paid onboard with 3 stops, hop on/hop off all day. What a way to see the harbor, learn some history of the port, brush up on nautical terms, points of interest on shore, and be entertained!! Such a value! Very fun & don't forget to get a picture with Cathy. Captain Patrick was entertaining with stories and landmarks, slowed down so we could see Wicked Tuna taping a show. Talked about fishermen bringing in their catch to the auction, very informative. First mate, Decklin did a poetry reading, very dramatic, well done. Well worth the $10!!

The captain George was quite rude The directions on where the boat was lea5ftom were terrible and we walked around a half hour looking for the entrance . It was very unorganized and just ok.
Just had lunch and wanted to relax so we hopped on the water shuttle with Captain Steven and mate Jack. Best $10 you will spend in this town, very informative and just fun! Don't miss out on this!
Went on the Lighthouse Cruise this past Sunday. I would have given this experience 5 stars if it were not for the fact that the cruise was marred by a screaming toddler. This kid did not quit! He screamed and cried, all at top volume for about an hour and a half. We couldn't hear the narration. The cruise was fully booked. I could see the passengers around us all looking in the direction of this kid and his parents and giving them annoying looks. It was horrible! Anyway, we loved the captain. He was great. Being on the water and seeing the coastline from that perspective, seeing and hearing about the history of all the lighthouses....wonderful. I would like to suggest that management have a no toddler policy!
Went on the lighthouse tour and highly recommend it. You get to see so much of the coast line and then a trip on the river for a totally different perspective Great value for the price. It may be a little long for kids though. Although you can get up, you definitely want to sit so you are able to look out the left hand side of the boat!
We have been sitting here for an hour, and no shuttle. It was supposed to come by -St. Peter's at 4:15. It's now 4:42, and nothing. Other people have been waiting too. Trying to give them our business, and nothing. I got a reply from the owner that if they don't have customers at Harbor Loop at 4, they just put their boats to bed for the night. If that's their business model they should tell people, since there were 7 of us waiting at St Peters for the 4:15 pick up, unaware that they were never going to come! Bad customer service.

Dear Terry: The Water Shuttle Tour is an hour ride around Gloucester Harbor that begins and ends at Harbor Loop on the hour. Our summer hours are 12 to 5 pm. When there are no costumers for the 4 pm run out of Harbor Loop, our captains put the boat away for the night.
Enjoyed their light house tour today. Narration was informative and the captain and his 1st mate were nice. We saw 6 beautiful lighthouses from the boat. Plenty of parking nearby too. Meters were for 10 hours.
A beautiful trip around Cape Ann which provided interesting and fun facts of the area. I live locally and my companion and I learned quite a bit. We both agreed it was a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. Pack a lunch and enjoy the views and commentary.
