Madonna announces 2023 tour that will celebrate her greatest hits

Madonna is getting ready to "express herself" all over again with her latest global tour.

Madonna Tour

Madonna has announced details about her upcoming world tour, dubbed The Celebration Tour , confirming the project in a starry video that mirrors a scene from the 1990 documentary Truth Or Dare.

The video – see it below, but it’s probably NSFW – features the singer at a dinner party with guests including Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Judd Apatow, Diplo and others, with each playing the Truth or Dare game. When it comes to Amy Schumer’s turn, she dares Madonna to go on a tour performing her many hits. Madonna takes the dare.

The singer had pushed back the first leg of the tour due to illness that required hospitalization earlier this year, launching the tour with EU/UK dates this fall with promises to reschedule the postponed dates.

“Live Nation is pleased to confirm that most of the North America dates of Madonna’s Celebration Tour have been rescheduled and will take place immediately following the originally announced UK and Europe dates,” reads an announcement posted to the pop legend’s website this week.

“Getting all shows rescheduled was the number one priority,” it continued. “Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts a few shows noted below will be cancelled. Madonna regrets the inconvenience to fans and hopes to make it up to those markets in the future.”

ticketflipping provides valuable tools for ticket resale professionals

Cancelled shows include stops at Tulsa’s BOK Center, Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Chase Center in San Francisco, MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and Footprint Center in Phoenix. There are also a handful of shows that have been relocated to new venues in the same general market, including one New York show moved from Madison Square Garden to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, and several Los Angeles performances switched from Crypto.com Arena to Kia Forum.

For those who purchased tickets to rescheduled shows, their original tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Tickets for shows that have been cancelled or switched up from one venue to another will see their purchase price refunded by the box office. Those who bought tickets to a relocated show will be contacted with a special presale opportunity for the new date if they wish to purchase new tickets.

Madonna’s new North American run begins on December 13 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with shows there and in Washington D.C. before a break in late December. Shows pick back up in Boston in early January, and run throughout late winter and early spring before wrapping up with four shows in Mexico City April 20-24.

When Madonna’s tour dates initially went on sale, the process was  marred with consumer complaints over the ticket pricing plans , which heavily leveraged “platinum” and “dynamic” pricing tactics to surge the numbers as high as the singer and her promoter Live Nation felt the market would bear. A month before the tour was set to kick off, the singer was reportedly hospitalized, leaving the tour in limbo while that was resolved. A decision was announced in July – less than a week before the tour was originally scheduled to open with a show at Rogers Arena in Vancouver – that the North American Leg would be postponed, and the second leg in the EU/UK would now serve as the tour opener, with North America to be rescheduled at a later date.

Madonna Announced The Make-Up Dates For Her Postponed Montreal Shows

The material world will have to wait a bit longer for the Material Girl's performance in North America.

Madonna sings on stage with an electric guitar.

Madonna sings on stage with an electric guitar.

In a plot twist that could rival her own music videos, Madonna has rescheduled her Montreal show for next January. The "Celebration Tour," promising an immersive journey through four decades of chart-topping hits, had initially faced an unexpected intermission. Live Nation's earlier announcement impacted shows initially set for August 19 and 20, 2023, at the Montreal Bell Centre.

The ambitious 35-city global tour, featuring special guest Bob the Drag Queen , is set to be a grand exploration of Madonna's illustrious career. The star had expressed her enthusiasm for the tour, eager to deliver a memorable performance for her fans.

But the pop queen had a health scare in late June that put her in the ICU with a bacterial infection.

"I'm on the road to recovery," Madonna wrote in an Instagram post on July 10. "I didn't want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone."

See on Instagram

Madonna emphasized that her focus remains on her health and "getting stronger" so she can return to the stage and deliver the show her fans are eagerly anticipating.

Those who had purchased tickets for the original Montreal dates have been reassured by Live Nation to retain them, as they will be honoured for the newly confirmed January 18 and 20, 2024 dates.

On August 9, the pop star posted photos with the caption, "All dressed up and nowhere to go… But soon, very soon, I’ll be traveling to you." Accompanying shots hinted at the singer's tour wardrobe with silver chains, latex gloves and a signature black lace corset.

The European leg of "The Celebration Tour" remains unaffected and is set to kick off in October 2023. Despite the delay, excitement for Madonna's one-of-a-kind experience continues to mount, promising a spectacle with a comeback beat even her '80s hits would envy. It's safe to say the Queen of Pop's reign is far from over.

Her series of shows will begin in Canada, in Vancouver, on July 15. She will also be in Toronto on Aug. 13.

After her North American tour next summer, she will head to Europe in the fall.

Who Is Opening Madonna’s ‘The Celebration Tour?’

Flisadam Pointer

Madonna’s miraculous medical recovery brought a new meaning to The Celebration Tour’s name. Initially, it was a party to honor her musical legacy as she performed some of her biggest hits, including “ Like A Virgin .” For the singer and ticketholders, it’s a gathering to show gratitude for life. So, who’s the lucky entertainer taking the stage at The Celebration Tour as the official opener?

Who is Opening Madonna’s The Celebration Tour ?

Instead of tapping another musician as the opening act, Madonna found someone who could do it all. The official opener of her The Celebration Tour is activist, recording artist, comedian, media personality, and drag performer Bob The Drag Queen. The Columbus, Georgia native is wildly known as the season eight winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race reality competition show. Since snatching the crown, Bob has starred in several comedy specials, including Woke Man in a Dress. Bob co-hosted HBO’s We’re Here alongside Eureka O’Hara and Shangela Laquifa Wadley.

Back in March, Bob was added to the tour by Madonna to protest Nashville’s anti-drag legislation . “The oppression of the LGBTQ+ is not only unacceptable and inhumane; it’s creating an unsafe environment; it makes America a dangerous place for our most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color. Also, these so-called laws to protect our children are unfounded and pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows not to f*ck with a drag queen. Bob and I will see you from the stage in Nashville, where we will celebrate the beauty that is the queer community,” wrote Madonna in a statement.

Unfortunately, Madonna fell ill shortly after, and the tour was ultimately postponed. Now, she’s back on the road, and so is Bob.

At Tampa concert, Madonna reminds us why she’s the queen

  • Maggie Duffy Times staff

TAMPA — She kept us waiting for hours in Amalie Arena.

But once Madonna took the stage a full two hours past the scheduled start of the 8:30 p.m. show, that didn’t matter. For the next two hours, the Queen of Pop showed us why she owns the title, and the multi-generational crowd gave back just as much energy.

DJ Mary Mac 5 Star set the vibe with a lively set. Then Bob the Drag Queen, dressed up like Marie Antoinette, got the crowd even more hyped as he introduced Madonna.

The singer’s Celebration Tour includes hits from the past four decades — the entirety of Madonna’s career — and features a troupe of dancers surrounding Madonna and working the stage, which had a long runway and elements suspended from the ceiling. Screens flashed video montages of photographs, artwork, scenes of New York City.

The tour was postponed last summer after Madonna suffered a severe bacterial infection that led to her being in a medically-induced coma for 48 hours . It’s pretty impressive that she’s bounced back relatively quickly.

After performing “Nothing Really Matters” — a song about how having children changed her life — alone on the stage, she was joined by dancers dressed as early 1980s punks for “Everybody” and “Into the Groove.”

Next, Madge grabbed an electric guitar and took us back to the iconic New York City punk club CBGB, where she first performed “Burning Up.”

Then she addressed the audience, saying that the show was the story of her life and she wanted us to “feel all the feels.”

“And really, Tampa, I’m only here every 40 years, so you should appreciate it,” she said, referring to the fact that she’s only performed here once before, in 1985.

She was accompanied by a person wearing a blank face mask throughout the show, who represented a younger version of herself that has stuck with her through the years. She gave herself a hug and reminded us to not forget where we came from.

“This isn’t a pop show, it’s more of a retrospective,” she said. “It’s performance art.”

Indeed. During “Open Your Heart,” there were nods to the memorable music video featuring a peepshow, and “Holiday” took us to a New York City nightclub, where the party reached a dizzying height, then took a heartbreaking turn as dancers started to fall to the ground. The refrain “Holiday” repeated as a haunting echo.

This led to a segment honoring those who were lost to AIDS, accompanied by a montage of their photographs while she performed “Live to Tell.” It began with a photo of former Tampa Bay resident Martin Burgoyne .

The segment culminated with an emotional “Like a Prayer,” with dancers’ bodies morphing into poses of Jesus Christ during crucifixion and other feats of physicality. There was a nod to Prince — who had played guitar on the original track — with a guitarist wearing a purple-patterned suit and a sample of the spoken intro of “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Madonna has always been a strong and vocal advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, and this concert was a big kiss to it. Ballroom culture was celebrated in a joyful segment during “Vogue,” which featured her daughter Estere as the DJ. Dancers walked the runway

to be judged by Madonna and guest Monét X Change.

It wouldn’t be Madonna if there wasn’t a steamy sexual element, and that came with sensual choreography on “Erotica,” “Justify My Love” and “Hung Up,” then turned almost remorseful with “Bad Girl,” on which her daughter Mercy played the piano.

Things took a tender turn with “Mother and Father,” which she dedicated to her mother, who died when she was very young. A photo of her was on a screen, as was the photo of her adopted son David’s mother, who died in childbirth. David also accompanied on guitar.

Among her many costume changes, Madonna went Western chic and played “Express Yourself” on her guitar, which she slung over her back for “La Isla Bonita.” She donned a silver bodysuit and long pink wig as she flew over the stage in a square for “Ray of Light.”

A dedication to Michael Jackson came with a “Billie Jean” / “Like a Virgin” mashup, with dancers dressed like the duo silhouetted on a screen.

Madonna has dealt with the pressures of celebrity’s obsession with youth, which is alluded to with sound bites of her saying “To age is a sin” and “The most controversial thing I’ve ever done is to stick around.” People may expect her, at age 65, to act or dress a certain way. But instead, she reminds us what a trailblazer she is during “B---- I’m Madonna,” with dancers dressed in her most iconic looks through the years.

Whatever you do, don’t expect Madonna to stop.

Aerosmith announced that they would be postponing their tour on Friday, Sept. 29 with a statement on Instagram , citing frontman Steven Tyler 's recovery from a newly discovered fractured larynx. The news came just two weeks after the  "Dream On" group announced  that the frontman “sustained vocal cord damage” and that they would need to reschedule six of their September concerts.

Aerosmith's current lineup of original members  Brad Whitford ,  Joe Perry , Tom Hamilton and Tyler, as well as new drummer John Douglas, opened up about the singer’s condition in a post dedicated to their fans.

“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought,” the band wrote. “His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers added, “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”

Tyler, 76, also said he was“heartbroken” by the change of plans for the group and their openers, The Black Crowes.

He added, “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”
