Saudi Arabia: The Complete - Escorted Tour in 3 or 4* Hotels

Very uncomfortable small bus did not have enough room for our 9 guests, 3 translators, guide and driver, even on excursions where we only brought day-bags (rather than entire luggage); uncomfortable seats and NOT ENOUGH LEG ROOM for taller non-local Westerners, worthless torn cloth blinds on the windows that could not be securely open or closed. Each of our 3 translators (who also served as guides for the tour overall) was GREAT! Consistently helpful, capable and personable; very positive attitudes and considerate individuals: 5+ stars for them! Local guides were also consistently great, although there was an ugly scene between our Jeddah(?) guide and our driver, leading to a verbal argument and the guide stomping off the bus.

Overall this tour was amazing! Packed full of experiences all over the country. I recommend this tour for the iconic EDGE OF THE WORLD, I recommend Elephant Rock. The palaces, the food, the new modernized Saudi and the new Prince providing ease with travel now. I would definitely recommend this tour. The only thing that kept me from giving an excellent was that several of the tour guides had zero information for us. They did not seem knowledgeable about the land or were not trying to share. The excitement and knowledge was not there. The personalities were not adequate for quides. Other then that the tour was amazing. Do your own research before you go until the guides can fulfill that part. Take this tour!

Saudi Arabia 16 day Group Tour

Saudi Arabia is spending billions on diversifying its oil economy. Developing International tourism (including expanding the number of religious visitors) is a major 2030 focus and they are busy building the infrastucture to support it. But much of it is still being done in Nov 2022. For example 30% of Jeddah ( a city of 4 million people) is currently being clearfelled to make way for new developments. They want to out do Dubai! But their ambitions are big and tourism will remake the country. (I wanted to visit before it changes). Tourism is already having a social impact. For example cinemas, concerts and other entertainment are now being allowed and promoted. The dress code has been dropped for foreign women. (We only wore our abayas when visiting the religious centre of Medina around the Mosque of the Prophet.). Attractions: Landscapes. I never thought desert could come in so many different types and colours: sandy, rocky, flat, mountainous, dunes. And it even rained! But Saudi Arabia also has spectacular mountain scenery, a Red Sea coastline and islands! There are plenty of historical sights and sites and each city is different. The Madventures Saudi Arabia Tour covered the highlights of the country very well. Weather: November was a good month to travel. Personal coments: 1: Saudi Arabia needs to provide more and better bathroom facilities for travellers on the road (currently very basic and mostly provided at a local mosque) 2: Our bus was good and the driver was very good but I would still like all seats to come with working seat belts.

The Landmark Tour shows real highlights if Saudi Arabia. A country which was closed for tourists for so many years and opened the borders just recently. The Saudi people are very friendly and I felt really welcome. For me it was an awesome experience. One point of criticism is the way of working of the tourguide Haroon. He is a very friendly guy but he didn’t give enough information concerning the daily schedule and what we were going to see or to do….to get some info about the area’s on our way in the bus etc

What people love about medina tours.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Considering this was a budget tour, the hotels, clean, comfortable rooms and bathrooms with good breakfasts. As we were only a group of 4 we travelled by car with a guide/driver. Salman in Riyadh was exceptional. What I appreciated most was the availability of Neis via WhatsApp or email. We had the odd hiccup which could be easily resolved. Great customer service. If opting for the Bahrain extension and traveling across the border by road, its very easy to obtain the visa at the border and you can even pay with Saudi currency – which is widely accepted in Bahrain. Tours in Bahrain are limited or quite costly, but we found it easy to get around to the places we wanted to see with Uber – efficient and reasonable prices. As I didn’t have global roaming I purchased an Esim in both of the countries – also simple and cheap.

This was my first time in Saudi Arabia. I had a wonderful, safe experience. Our tour guide, Emmanuel, was outstanding and insured everyone’s needs were met. He was very organized, kept it positive, and fun!! The tour itself was a great way to get an overall sample of what the country has to offer! I highly recommend this tour and Explore for your tour company!!

After a delay of 45 min for the first train trip(they decided to test the brakes at the time of departure), we were allowed to board the train. The vendor never showed up on this rainy cold day, there was no refreshments on board, although we paid for first class Dinning Car. Lol! I asked the server that walked around the car for an imaginary 5 Course Service! Off we went on a 2 hr R/T. It was a pleasant ride over the Erie Canal and the Fall Foliage that was too early in the Season and only some yellow leaves were seen. Still, just to ride the train was exciting. I propose to have train rides a bit later in the month as well. Only Oct 16 & 17 / Oct 23 & 24 are slated to run. The staff was very nice. Live entertainment by a couple playing guitars and singing went the length of the car singing. Everyone seem to have a great time.

I went on the fall foliage train ride with three friends yesterday and it was so GREAT!!! I have never been on a train before and I was so excited!!! I paid a few extra bucks for a first class ticket. It was $37, plus a $3 service charge. The difference was that we had two senior citizens singing folk music and strumming away on their guitars. There wasn't food served. There was pop, water, candy bars, and snacks that one could purchase. Some items were $1.00 each and some were $2.00 each. There was a conductor and a few staff members!! There wasn't much fall foliage to see but my friends and I had a great time chatting and hanging out. We saw deer and a ghost hanging on a branch, near a zip line course. The whole thing (loading on, finding our seats, driving to the area where we stopped and heading back to Medina where we boarded) took about 2.5 hours. If you have a ticket, you'll get free admission to the beautiful museum. All tickets are will call only. I'd recommend this ride at least once. It was a fun experience.

The Museum’s vintage locomotive and train cars from 1947 to 1957 feature five passenger cars and two first-class cars that ride out on the tracks to Lockport and back several times per year for special events. Train season is May through December. In the spring, they provide “A Day Out with Thomas” featuring Thomas the Tank Engine. In the fall, they offer Fall Foliage tours. Polar Express rides after Thanksgiving through mid-December feature cookies with Santa. All special train excursion tickets also allow entry into their huge train museum.

WNY Rail Excursions & Medina Railroad Museum – Medina, NY

The WNY Rail Excursions offers rides on historic trains while the Medina Railroad Museum offers exhibits for learning about local railroad history.

19th Century New York would be nothing if not for the Erie Canal. But the train systems laid out in the mid-1800’s extended that trade route even further.

Railroads usurped the use of the canal for their speed and ability to reach further corners of the map. Now of course rail travel has been usurped by air and automobile. But much like the canals, nostalgic remnants still exist of a heyday when railroads ruled.

One spot where a remnant is alive and well is in Medina, a town in Orleans County. Medina was built on the original canal and once boomed because of its waterway location. The Medina Railroad Museum sits on an old rail line still used a few times a week for transporting freight. Plus, the Western New York Rail Excursions  group uses it offer train rides.

Medina And Trains

The Rochester, Lockport and Niagara Falls Railroad  was used for just a few years around 1850 before being incorporated into the larger New York Central Railroad in 1853. The line experienced moderate success for its day. Increased business for the railroad led to the need for a large depot to be built in Medina.

In 1905 the building at 530 West Ave was constructed in a timber, clapboard style. It measures 300′ by 40′–making it to be what is believed the largest extant wooden frame depot in the entire United States. In 1991, the Medina Railroad Museum converted the building to house their extensive and ever-growing collection. Inside the museum you’ll find model trains, ephemera, lanterns and anything else you could ever possibly imagine.

Having read about the museum a bit I kind of knew what to expect. I knew it was home to a large collection of cool stuff to be seen.

What I wasn’t prepared at all for was the interpretation of ‘large collection of stuff’. Even once I was inside I kept repeating to myself, “Whoa! There’s more??” I had barely just seen the appetizer of a full four course meal!

Seemingly endless square feet of model railroad tracks have been set up in the museum. Constantly running model trains are surrounded by one of the largest and coolest collection of local history items in the area. Though the focus is largely on railroad collectibles and even separated by rail company in some displays, there’s an unending number of local fire department helmets, a 16 foot Heinz pickle sign from 1897 that existed at the former Heinz factory in Medina, countless lanterns and enough other things to look at that would keep even a non-enthusiast of any age busy for hours.

WNY Rail Excursions

To take advantage of the still operational Falls Road rail line Western New York Rail Excursions hosts various train rides. Each train ride allow visitors to ride on restored rail cars.

This ride in particular was the Niagara Wine Trail Tour. For $45 attendees ride from Medina to Lockport (and back) on a vintage 1947 Budd coach car. Servers walk throughout the cars serving up their finest while sights of the small canal towns pass on either side.

First Middleport , then Gasport . Then the old Lockport train station that has since been retired and then Cold Springs Cemetery to your South.

By this point in the tour, servers have also doled out a super healthy ‘farm to table’ box lunch. Local harvested vegetables, regional cheeses and cured meats, local crackers and handmade hummus was a great travel snack.

When you’ve reached the cemetery you’re on the Easternmost edge of Lockport and will soon be passing 80 feet above the canal. Also on the South side will be the historic “ Flight of Five ” canal locks that were just recently restored (though, not visible from the train.)

The bridge that crosses the canal is noteworthy though, because it’s a truss that was built upside-down. A canal engineer passed the story on to me a few years ago. He claimed it was built upside down so that only a water vessel short enough to pass under would be able to use the canal, essentially preventing the growth of freight shipping by water and effectively increasing the use of the rail system. Passing over the bridge is definitely one of the highlights of the trip, unless you’re afraid of heights.

Return Trip To The Medina Railroad Museum

The return trip was smooth and relaxed with more wine accompanied by live jazz guitar by Rochesterian and Eastman School of Music professor Mike Frederick.

Tons of photo opportunities and an hour and a half round trip of cruising through the fall foliage of Western New York while being fed some really fantastic regional culinary favorites and listening to a great musician all the while was an absolutely fantastic way to spend an afternoon.

Though the Niagara Wine Trail Train Tour is wrapping up at the end of October, there’s still plenty more options. A Halloween themed ride, and even still the most popular of all the tours year round: the Christmas time Polar Express will soon be starting up. Hot cocoa, Santa Claus, the town of Gasport lit up like the North Pole and a children’s theatrical favorite coming to life I’m told is always a huge hit.
