UK Train Ticket Solution

It is traumatizing to purchase a train ticket via the GWR website using a foreign credit card, I tried several times with no luck. Then I discovered trip.com, at first I was skeptical because I've never heard of the site and it's not US based. But I read some reviews and I took my chance, the ticket is genuine and it's even $10 cheaper than from the GWR. I will use trip.com again, it's highly recommended!

Name change request

I’ve been trying to make a name change request as I got confused with the term last name. Sometimes the last name of the passport may not be the person’s surname. After reaching the customer service countless of times and escalating to higher management, Karol called me within 30min. She was really prompt and empathetic. Used trip.com many times

Update: my complaint was solved, thanks to Joy, Customer Success Team. Used trip.com many times and left several favorable comments, my latest experience was somehow complicated probably due to the airline system problem (it seems that some airlines websites don't allow managing your booking if booked on OTA).

Flight London to Beijing

Plane on time, good choice of entertainment, good choice of food. Staff could be better trained in English, deliver immigration cards during the flight. Long immigration time ( over an hour), no separate line for families.

Everything worked without a hitch!

This was a great experience. I booked an international hotel and made payment before the trip. When I arrived at the hotel they were ready for me. My payment was acknowledged and no money due other than taxes. The tax portion and amount had been clearly stated on the reservation details so it was no surprise and exactly the amount expected. Extremely pleased.

“One One Bangkok Hotel” is a very good place to stay. I had to stay for several days in one room , then I extended my stay and used another room. Both were clean and comfortable. I’m normita kuwabara I book a ticket round trip but I miss the flight morning april-25 so I buy another ticket inside airport it cost almost double. Then I check if I can used my return ticket. It show my return schedule flight but after few min it deleted I can’t find the mail anymore so I contact information center abt it and they say it can’t be used . Big room with a large balcony

Big room with a large balcony, the room was clean and all facilities were good, the massage is the best. The television is an old fashioned and breakfast is less than expected, option is not many and quality is not the standard.

I have not received the full tickets…

I have not received the full tickets till now . The tickets takes too much time for issuing. I payed also more than the price written almost 80 SAR additional fees wothout informing me before bookking

Customer service was very good. When they failed to issue me the flight ticket due to price increase when it was booked. But the helped me issuing the alternate ticket for no extra cost which I was satisfied with the ticket was offered to me

Just book directly through the airlines

After 4 years of trying (and failing) to get a refund from a cancelled flight from covid, it is safe to say that trip.com were the opposite of helpful. Using an agent like these means the airline can just pass on responsbility onto them, but trip.com kept saying they can’t do anything other than what the airline tells you. Since then I have learned two lessons - use a credit card so you can do a chargeback when companies like these are obstructive, and also book directly through airlines. It is much easier to deal with issues when there’s no unhelpful middle man.

Unhelpful and unresolving

Unhelpful and unresolving in my recent trip to London where the room I booked with Trip.com was not reserved with the hotel. The hotel provided a room that was not what I paid for then moved us to a lower star hotel. Trip.com was unable to help in recovering the payment I made and was unable to just charge me for the room I was provided. Extremely unhappy with service and result. I will not use them again. I also will never recommend them especially with several other third party options who protect their clients are available.

After 4 years of trying (and failing) to get a refund from a cancelled flight from covid, it is safe to say that trip.com were the opposite of helpful. Using an agent like these means the airline can just pass on responsbility onto them, but trip.com kept saying they can’t do anything other than what the airline tells you. Since then I have learned two lessons - use a credit card so you can do a chargeback when companies like these are obstructive, and also book directly through airlines. It is much easier to deal with issues when there’s no unhelpful middle man.

Unhelpful and unresolving

Unhelpful and unresolving in my recent trip to London where the room I booked with Trip.com was not reserved with the hotel. The hotel provided a room that was not what I paid for then moved us to a lower star hotel. Trip.com was unable to help in recovering the payment I made and was unable to just charge me for the room I was provided. Extremely unhappy with service and result. I will not use them again. I also will never recommend them especially with several other third party options who protect their clients are available.

Later I found out that the full amount was withdrawn from my bank account. When I contacted them, they promised to solve it in 24 hours, but for 17 days no one has contacted me or even complained. I do not recommend this site to anyone.

This booking service will find any possible way to give you a flight that does not take you where you want to do, just to scrape cheap business from you for what looks like cheaper itinerary flights. We tried to book a flight to LAX. We chose Los Angeles as our destination. Of course this scheming business would send us to Ontario, 2 hours drive from where literally ANY other flight goes into Los Angeles. On top of that, they have absolutely no way of refunding a flight within 24 hours of having booked it, we had to "apply" to cancel. So we just lost 1750 USD to this thieving business. I tried to request a refund within 24 hours and we were stuck waiting for their response. I disputed the charge from my credit card company and of course, since trip.com is a 3rd party, there was nothing that my bank could do about it. Do not use this company. They need to simply fail and let other legitimate business take over their space.

Don't book your ticket via Trip.com or you will be the scammed with thousands of dollars. I booked a direct flight tickets for my family but Trip.com send me a wrong flight schedule after charged my credit card.-they don't send you any confirmation email before take your payment. I've contacted them immediately after receiving that wrong ticket, the customer service said will get me an update within 24 hours. I waited almost 72 hours and there was no update. Couldn't wait further so I called them instead. After a number of calls in the last two days, finally a manager gave me a Rubbish solution as we have to pay extra $1000 to amend the original $1200 ticket! Or we will have to travel with my 8 month old baby on a transfer flight and land in the destination at 11pm! Perhaps we also have to spend more money to stay one more night in the hotel. Absolutely crap service!

Tip for consumers: Trip.com app doesn't show you the flight info on the immediate page prior or post the payment. It also doesn't email you any quote with the flight detail before they take you payment.

Trip.com is the only website I use when booking a trip to China. However, it has increasingly also become a popular travel site for booking trips to the United States, Canada, and abroad.

In this article, I'll review Trip.com, let you know whether it's good for travel in the United States, and give you some helpful hints for using it to save money.

Is Trip.com Legit?

Let's start with the first question: Is Trip.com legit? Yes, Trip.com is legitimate and completely safe to use (at least as safe as any other travel website like Expedia or Travelocity). I've used Trip.com and CTrip.com (its parent company) for over 10 years. 

Trip.com is now owned by CTrip , one of the largest travel companies in China (it was acquired by CTrip in 2017). If you've used CTrip to book your flights, you'll notice most English speakers are now automatically directed to Trip.com while Chinese speakers are directed to CTrip.com.

Is Trip.com a Chinese Company?

Yes, Trip.com is owned and operated in China.

Politics aside, this means that you'll often be dealing with Chinese customer support staff. In my experience, there are definitely some cultural and language issues you'll encounter if you need to get in touch with customer support.

Pros and Cons of Trip.com

Just like any other travel site, there are good and bad things about using Trip.com. Here are some based on my personal experience:

Pros of Trip.com

  • Earn “Trip Coins” (reward points) every time you book
  • Often very cheap prices (especially for airline tickets)
  • Easy to contact customer service via chat
  • Excellent for trips to China

Cons of Trip.com

  • Overseas customer support means there can be language and cultural issues
  • Still better to book hotels and flights directly through hotel/airline websites when possible
  • Polarizing User Interface (UI) – You'll either love it or hate it
  • Foreign (China) based company 

Let me give a quick overview of the pros and cons:

(Pro) Trip Coins – When you book with Trip.com, you get Trip Coins, which are basically reward points you can use for booking future trips. It works out to around 5% of your purchase price, so it's not bad.

(Pro) Cheap Prices – Trip.com offer prices that are often much cheaper compared to competitors like Travelocity and Expedia, especially for airline tickets. You're typically not going to be surprised by any hidden fees either.

(Pro) Easy to Contact Customer Support via Chat – Opening up a customer chat is extremely easy (and not buried in a million sub-menus as is often the case with other websites).

(Pro) Great for Chinese Travel – This won't be applicable to a lot of people reading this, but if you're traveling within China, Trip.com is basically  the site to use, especially for booking Train tickets.

(Con) Overseas Customer Support – Trip is getting better in regard to its customer support but it's still not uncommon to get overseas customer support which can lead to communication problems.

(Con) Better to Book Direct – There's one flaw with all travel booking websites (whether it's Trip.com or any others) and that's that it is better to book direct through airline and hotel websites when you can. Often you'll get better prices, more flexible cancellation/change policies, and easier customer service when you do.

(Con) Polarizing User Navigation – You're either going to love the UI for Trip.com or hate it. There's not a lot of bells and whistles which means you're not going to get inundated with a million upsells but you also won't be able to find detailed information on hotels. 

(Con) Foreign Based Company – Trip.com is Chinese owned. For better or worse, I recognize in the current political climate this can be an issue for some.

Trip.com Reviews vs. Other Travel Websites

Trip.com ranks far better than other travel booking websites such as Travelocity, Expedia, and Booking.com on review aggregator websites such as Trust Pilot and the Better Business Bureau . To be blunt, most other travel booking websites rank terribly  while Trip.com ranks fairly well. To be fair though, there is likely a bit of “gamesmanship” involved with how Trip.com is managing its reviews, i.e., the score is likely over-inflated.

Is Trip.com Good for US Airline Tickets?

Trip.com is  the website for booking travel to China, but it is also good for booking trips to and within the United States. In many cases, Trip.com is the cheapest booking option, especially for airline tickets.

In my experience, the price of airline tickets on Trip.com is lower than on other travel booking websites. You might be suspicious of these prices that are “too good to be true” but, as someone who has booked countless flights through Trip.com, I can tell you there's nothing to fear.

Is Trip.com Good for Booking Hotels in the US?

When it comes to booking hotels, Trip.com, in my experience, is very comparable to other websites such as Expedia or Travelocity. However, I rarely book Western hotels through Trip.com simply because it's usually not the cheapest option.

With that being said, it's worth noting that most hotel stays will earn you approximately 5% back in Trip Coins, which most other websites don't offer. So if Trip.com and another website offer the same price for the same hotel, keep this 5% bonus in mind.

Is Trip.com Good for Booking China Trains, Hotels, and Flights?

Trip.com is good for booking US trips, but where it really shines is travels to China. This probably won't concern many of the people reading this, but if you're planning to travel to China, then Trip.com is going to be your best friend.

Why is Trip.com so good for booking Chinese travel? First, in terms of train bookings, it's essentially the only English-friendly booking website. Second, when it comes to airline tickets and hotel bookings, most Western websites have limited options for Chinese flights and hotels.

How to Book a China Train Travel with Trip.com

Traveling by train in China is wonderful—booking train tickets is a different story. Most Chinese people use WeChat to book train travel, but this isn't an option for foreigners.

Foreigners have three options for booking trains:

  • Book at the train station. This requires you to get there hours in advance, try to figure out the train schedule, and deal with language barriers. The only advantage is there's no booking fee.
  • Book through the official Chinese railway website 12306.cn . Not an option for foreigners really, as you can't pay with a foreign credit card.
  • Book through Trip.com . Enjoy an extremely Western-friendly website, view easy-to-understand schedules online, and book easily with your credit card. The downside is you'll have to pay a $5 to $10 booking fee.

Is Trip.com Good for Booking Hotels and Flights in China?

Trip.com is also a better option for booking hotels and flights in China than other Western travel booking websites because of the number of options. 

Western travel booking websites like Booking.com and Priceline will have many Chinese hotels and airlines available, but they won't have as many as Trip.com. Now, to be fair, if a Chinese hotel isn't available to be booked on your favorite Western travel website, you probably don't want to stay there if you're a first-time traveler to China (Chinese hotel standards are vastly different than Western Hotel standards). 

For airline tickets, the same is true: Trip.com will have far more flight options to China than Western travel booking websites do. Western websites will have the major Chinese airlines like China Southern and China Eastern, but they won't have the smaller Chinese airlines. 

In conclusion, Trip.com is a perfectly safe and legitimate website for booking travel both in Western regions like the United States, Canada, and Europe, as well as in China. Airline ticket prices tend to be priced below average compared to other major travel booking websites, and when it comes to booking trips within China, Trip.com is the best  choice.

I agee that trip.com provides the best user experience for booking Chinese train tickets as a foreigner, but the booking fees end up being quite steep if you need to book a lot of travel. 12306.cn doesn’t take any fees and it also tells you how many tickets are left which is very helpful as seats can sell out very quickly. The learning curve is all in booking the first ticket and then after that it’s super easy.

I just tried booking via Trip Advisor and was sent to the Trip.com site! I almost made the mistake of booking several tickets but for some reason the dates I want aren't the dates they gave me on my final deal. That's what made me want to verify this site from Trip Advisor. I think it is ultimately their responsibility if they allow Trip.com to use their site. They should do something ASAP before more customers are scammed!

This website is crap.

So i make a booking thinking that the dollar sign in front of the price is Australian Dollar. BUT NO ITS NOT.

I am a student and that extra money they took off me for such little mistake will cost me rent money for my accommodation.

I warn anyone booking a flight with this website check the currency before you pay. It is a little stupid writing on the top of the page. You have to change that to your preferred currency or you will pay more than the price shows.

And this website has a non refundable, non cancellation and non understanding policy.

Did you think to compare the price from trip.com, a Chinese company, with what was being charged by the local low cost airlines ? I have just gone on too trip.com and am clearly shown flights SYD/PER in Singapore $'s straight up, so need to see to change the currency, which is simple to do at top right of page.

So, changed to AU$ and see a Qantas flight from trip.com and the same flight from Qantas direct booking AU$18 more direct with Q incl luggage. For $18, why use a third party?

Trip.com, geweldige ervaring.

Wij hebben voor onze reis door Azië 5 vliegtickets geboekt waaronder 3 binnenlandse vluchten met Air Asia en 3 hotels, alles ging zoals het hoort, snel en duidelijk ook voor wat de hotels betrof. Door de trip coins konden we ook nog een goedkopere hotel prijs bedingen. Ga zo verder "Trip".

Onduidelijk en misleidend informatie

De informatie is onduidelijk en onoverzichtelijk, vooral mbt de bagage , als je die bij wilt boeken krijg je gigantische hoge prijzen. Eerst kon je zien de men recht heeft op 10 kg bagage later bij de incheckbalie moest ik alsnog €63 voor handbagage. Bagger gewoon, nooit meer via trip.com boeken.

Advertentie hotel is niet volledig.

Voor ik definitief ging boeken zag bij de twee kamers in het Lenardo Hotel Berlijn dat er 2x ontbijt, dat is mooi dan boek 1 dag bij en bestel ik extra onbijt wel in het hotel. Nu bleek toen we in het hotel arriveerde er geen ontbijt was geboekt. Tevens had men een privéparking hier moet je apart voor betalen, dit stond ook niet in de advertentie. Kortom je krijt halve informatie op de site/app.

Mojogar, een kustplaats waarbij ons hotel net buiten het centrum lag. Desalniettemin een uitstekend hotel met voldoende vrije parkeerplaatsen, mooi entree en een welkom met een glas cava 👍 Inchecken ging probleemloos en de kamer en uitzicht was volkomen naar verwachting! Zeker een tip voor andere en zelf om nog eens terug te komen.

Er is per ongeluk een verkeerde naam doorgegeven en de luchtvaartmaatschappij wil dit wel wijzigen maar trip weigert naar het juiste adres te communiceren. Als je al iemand te pakken krijgt verschuilen ze zich als ik ben maar een agent en kan niets doen . Eenvoudig hotel, misschien binnen een beetje gedateerd. Kamers niet luxueus, maar zeer goede indeling. Badkamer volledig gescheiden van slaap- en verblijfsgedeelte: zeer goed. Ontbijt meer dan voldoende en verzorgd. Ligging voor toerist: toeristisch centrum Gent, maar toch rustig.

UNC Basketball: Elite Center Now Planning Trip to Chapel Hill

UNC basketball may be one step closer to finally fulfilling its goal of landing a transfer big man.

It’s no secret that head coach Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have set out to reel in a top transfer to play in the post next season. After being linked to names such as Oumar Ballo, Aaron Bradshaw, Danny Wolf, and Jonas Aidoo, it was clear Davis and the Tar Heel crew had an offseason goal.

But while the Tar Heels have struck out on many of those transfer targets, they may be gaining the inside track on landing one of the best remaining big men in the transfer portal.

On Friday, 247Sports reported that the Tar Heels had secured a visit with Rutgers transfer big Clifford Omoruyi, with the visit tentatively scheduled for the beginning of May.

UNC has been linked to Omoruyi in recent weeks and appeared in his top 12. However, it had appeared that the Tar Heels may have fallen behind in the race after the top-shelf transfer scheduled visits with Alabama and Kansas State.

That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, with Omoruyi now set to add UNC to that list.

The 6-foot-11, 240-pound senior played four seasons at Rutgers, starting 101 of the 124 games he played with the Scarlet Knights. Across 32 games as a senior, Omoruyi averaged 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks while earning a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team for the second year in a row.

He currently ranks No. 8 overall among the nation's transfer, according to the 247Sports portal rankings, and would fill a massive hole left in Chapel Hill by the departure of five-year starting center Armando Bacot.

With the school’s all-time leading rebounder having exhausted eligibility, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball staff have been searching for a physical force inside to pair with Jalen Washington down low.

Clifford Omoruyi’s ability to rebound and block shots at a high level would be a perfect fit in Chapel Hill to complement one of the best returning rosters in the country.

‘Lucky’ is a delightful trip through the 20th century’s greatest hits

Jane smiley’s new novel is a quirky fictional autobiography of a moderately successful folk-rock singer-songwriter.

Open Jane Smiley’s new novel, “ Lucky ,” and thank God for the internet, because if you’re like me (well, poor you), you will want to look up and listen to song after song. The quirky fictional autobiography of a moderately successful singer-songwriter in the folk-rock mode of what the narrator, Jodie, calls the “four J’s” — Janis, Joan, Judy and Joni — largely (and minutely) imagines life as itinerary and playlist, with the 20th-century American songbook soundtracking the character’s every painstakingly mapped move.

Jodie is an only child growing up in St. Louis, the product of an affair between her mother, a onetime aspiring musical performer, and a married man-about-town no longer in the picture. Jodie’s grandparents live in the neighborhood, as do an aunt, a cousin — the charming, guitar-playing Brucie — and her Uncle Drew, a financial wizard who places a bet for her at the horse races, netting her a roll of $2 bills that gives her story of luck its start. Again and again throughout the book Jodie will return to that roll of bills, which assumes a talismanic charm as she goes to college to study music, joins a band, writes songs and cuts a record successful enough (with the wise advice of Uncle Drew) to free her of financial concerns for the rest of her songwriting, affair-having, house-buying, traveling, occasionally performing life.

All along, Jodie details her movements so meticulously that you could probably find your way around many St. Louis neighborhoods (and a few in England) with the novel in hand. This level of detail can appear gratuitous, but it comes to seem critical to Jodie’s character, who is always observing, from a slight distance, even what she herself does. Much of what she sees becomes grist for a song, but eventually you understand, as she does, that she is trying to figure out how to be in the world.

In high school she sits “on the john in the girls’ bathroom and listen[s] to the others gossip,” figuring “out a way to stay out of their conversations.” In college, she eavesdrops on her two roommates from Philadelphia talking about sex. Later, she makes an effort: “I watched how people reacted to and greeted one another. I also paid attention to the people who were walking together — how they talked and what their body language was. Then I would walk past a store window and observe myself.” Indeed, in time, she has “learned to show an interest in people and to feel a connection.”

This is life as a lesson in how to live, for which you must write your own instructions as you go along. Sometimes an insight emerges, sometimes a song, sometimes an epiphany, and it’s hard to say why, as when Jodie tells us that observing the behavior of a bird “changed my life,” or that the way a friend “talked about … things made me believe that life goes on.” Luckily, this is Jane Smiley, so the details, the insights, the songs — those she writes, and the dizzying assortment she mentions — are entertaining enough to follow.

In the Last Hundred Years Trilogy , which ran from around 1920 to 2020, Smiley viewed the American century through the filter of one family, whose members managed to experience or witness virtually every major event or trend encompassed by those years. Similarly, “Lucky” distills nearly a century through one character’s life — a life that in its general shape and many particulars seems to track with Smiley’s own. Which makes the late appearance of an even more Smiley-like character — a gawky girl who went to high school with Jodie and ended up publishing a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a farm and one set in Greenland in the Middle Ages — somewhat trippy, only to be out-tripped by one last narrative twist that it would be unfair to give away.

And after Jane and Jodie and any remaining J’s get to our own dark days, and to “Lucky’s” vision of an even darker future, a twist — please, a full-scale dislocation! — is precisely what we need.

It’s a fitting conclusion to a novel whose narrator tells us that “the great enigma … was the sense you have, that comes and goes, of who you are, what the self is.”

The website works well, but while the airline company charges 14€ for a cabin bag, myTrip charges 35€, with similar upcosts for luggage as well. I would only use it if I know that I need to make no adjustments to my travels.

Customer Service was terrible!

The customer service is terrible. I spoke via chat to someone named Yen Doan and she outright ignored my questions/requests. Any time I asked for something to be clarified she would give me an answer to a question that wasn’t even asked. When I asked to speak to someone else she just ignored me completely. When I said I’d like to speak to someone else she responded by giving me the customer service email address which I could have easily got myself and then said I had 3 minutes to respond before she closed the chat when she took more than 5 minutes to respond to any of my questions which she completely ignored anyway!

I canceled the trip

I canceled the trip, my reservation was canceled, but they wrote that my refund would be processed within 15 business days, although refunds are made very quickly in 5 minutes, I speak as an airline agent. Very bad, I don’t recommend them if you make a return or exchange.

Hi have cancelled my flight ticket and I have requested for refund .it's been more than one month I have waiting for my refund.every time I contact them they will say please wait ur request is under review .they already got refund from airlines and mytrip is not paying my money back.horrible experience almost 790 euro they have to pay me back . My experience with this company has been average overall. While they provide the service they advertise, it often feels like there's room for improvement in their customer support and efficiency. The absolute worst service!

The absolute worst service!! I booked a flight and there were delays and I missed my connecting flight. Now I have been on chat and call for over 20 hours with about 40 different agents that keep transferring me to another and I’m repeating myself over and over again with no one helping. The chat and calls keep disconnecting and they all are bloody useless. Nothing is resolved

Prices changed without realising

The prices were offered for a certain price, I hit pay, and the payment didn't work, it said to wait a minute and hit pay again. I did this, and it went through, but the price had gone up by $116. I didn't notice at the time as I assumed it would be the same price given nothing on the page had changed. It feels like a delibrate design decision to get customers to pay more without realising.

The actual trip booking part is like every other trip booking platform. I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you DO NOT purchase travel visa through them. They charge a very high premium and usually when a you pay for travel visa (in my past experiences) all you do is take a photo of your passport and a selfish and they agent takes care of the rest, in this case however you are sent a link to SimpleVisa website and you're left to do everything on your own. They basically copy the visa off the country's site and have you do it all yourself. I could have done that on my own for 300% less money. Buy the tickets get your own visas and don't pay them more money for no reason

I can't believe this is legal operation…

I can't believe this is legal operation these guys are running. They made an 'error' on their website booking site, which lead me to book a flight not suitable my needs. The customer support has lead to no reasonable solution and no responsibility taken. I see the other low scores and bad experiences travellers have had and what these third party companies get away with. This is not a service to travellers, always go direct with airlines!

Possible scam site, avoid

Booked fast track security at Schiphol. Didn’t receive the fast track passes. Called and they said the passes weren’t available and they would send a refund. The refund did arrive after a couple of days (although I did think I shouldn’t have had to call). However, my card details were used in a fraudulent transaction the following day. I think these people are a scam.

Black loves matter!

That’s one of many wry rallying cries in the badass new musical “Strange Loop,” as our hero Usher grapples with being “big, Black, and queer” on the Great White Way.

Silly and cerebral, tuneful and tart, this meta-theatrical musical, tightly directed by Stephen Brackett, sucks us deep into the whirlpool of a quarter-life identity crisis with heartbreaking authenticity.

Usher (the sweetly endearing Malachi McCaskill), an insecure musical theater writer about to turn 26, enters into a Thunderdome-style battle with his own pesky thoughts as he works as an usher at “The Lion King” on Broadway in this gleefully foul-mouthed 100-minute tour-de-fierce, the first musical by a black person to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Usher and six embodied shards of his stream of consciousness, from his daily self-loathing to his ambiguous sexuality (each played by separate actors), are the stars of Michael R. Jackson’s fourth-wall-shattering Tony-winning tuner, which more than lives up to expectations in its raucous West Coast premiere at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater, a co-production with the Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles.

Jackson’s cheeky exploration of coming-of-age in a chaotic world where labels are hard to shake and money is hard to make is both wry and genuine, playful and angsty.

He may sneer at Broadway’s middlebrow hucksterism but he also names his mom and dad Mufasa and Sarabi. He may loathe Disney commercialism but it still frames his sense of self, making navigating his plus-size blackness even more complicated. He often escapes from his vortex of self-loathing by channeling his Liz Phair vibe. “Inner White Girl” is one of many gems here.

His church-going parents only complicate matters further. His mom (a moving John-Andrew Morrison, a Tony Award nominee for the role) wants him to come to Jesus while his dad gets drunk and crosses lines into disturbing territory. They both beg Usher to write a Tyler Perry-style gospel musical, which he does with a vengeance in the musical’s blistering “Precious Little Dream” interlude, a showstopper punctuated by revelatory choral lamentation.

Jackson’s wild and wanton juxtaposition of the soulful and the unsettling, the high-brow and the kitschy — nodding from “Golden Girls” to Zora Neale Hurston, from the Chitlin Circuit to Tony Kushner — keeps us riveted to this dizzying funhouse mirror of a musical.

    i am based in australia and used trip.com via skyscanner.com to book a flight from AKL to MELB. i was very hesitant at first, but with baggage inc, the flight using Virgin, was $100 cheaper than others, so i closed my eyes and booked it!!!. one of the conditions was that the ticket would not be issued straight away after booking, but within 72 hours of the flight departure.
