Charli and Dixie D'Amelio Launch Their Own Clothing Line for Hollister Co.

"We can't wait to put our vision out into the world," Charli says about the new line, Social Tourist, she designed with sister Dixie

Style + Beauty Assistant, PEOPLE

Charli and Dixie D'Amelio aren't slowing down anytime soon.

TikTok's most famous sisters announced on Thursday that the next chapter of their successful Hollister Co. partnership will be a standalone apparel brand under Abercrombie & Fitch Co. called Social Tourist.

Launching May 20 in Hollister stores and online at hollister.com , the line is inspired by social media and Charli and Dixie's life in the spotlight. The TikTokers — who, together, boast over 150 million followers on the video sharing platform — were instrumental in developing Social Tourist, leading everything from product selection, design and branding, to positioning and marketing.

They'll also get a little help from their dad, Marc D'Amelio, who has worked in sales and design and will act as a consultant for the line.

"We've always loved fashion, and it's been amazing to be so involved in this process," Dixie, 19, said in a statement. "We feel like Social Tourist really represents both of us and explores how our generation is balancing who they are on social media with real life."

Charli, 17, shared that the first product drop will focus on "introducing the brand" to their millions of fans and followers, whereas the second collection (launching in June) will reflect the sister's individual personalities.

"Designs that reflect Dixie's personality are a bit edgier, with dark color palettes and patterns," the star explained. "My vibe is shown through super feminine and cute styles. We can't wait to put our vision out into the world!"

Both sisters posted a Social Tourist teaser video on Instagram Thursday morning, in which they're sporting black and white sweatpants sets embossed with the brand's logo. "When it comes to this whole life thing, the journey is the destination," Charli says in the clip.

"Hey, that's where we come in," they say in unison. "Let's unpack this life together."

The line — which will have new drops every month— will feature a few different categories, including swim, everyday essentials, trend-driven designs and gender inclusive items.

Back in June 2020, Charli and Dixie were named the faces of Hollister's Jean Lab . The unique partnership involved testing denim for a flattering fit and ultimate comfort with a little help from fellow Internet sensation Noah Pugliano and famed scientist Bill Nye .

"We hope that we can send the message that we can and should all feel comfortable in our own skin," the sisters told PEOPLE at the time. "Jeans are such a personal clothing item and sometimes it's hard to find the fit you feel best in, but they are also a wardrobe staple, so working together to ensure there was a fit for everyone was really important to us."

“For these past few collections, it’s been a lot of very summer, happy, fun colors that we love to wear, and some neutrals that’ll keep it very cohesive,” Charli — who recently turned 18 — tells The Hollywood Reporter . “The color palette is super important and I think that’s something we really try to focus on and try to build around what you feel when you see [and wear] these colors.”

The June line comprises body-con dresses in comic book prints, colorful checkered tops and miniskirts and more. Rounding out the summer-ready pieces are loungewear essentials such as oversized logo sweaters, cropped polo shirts and color-blocked jogger pants.

Charli’s first fragrance, Born Dreamer, will be available at Ulta starting June 26 . Designed to be worn by everyone, the fruity and floral scent has a vegan formula and features top notes of anjou pear and orange zest, middle notes of sustainably harvested jasmine and pink sugar, and a musky base of cashmere woods and cedarwood.

Dixie, who uses just her first name as her musical moniker, released her debut album, the 15-track A Letter to Me , on June 10.

On her first fragrance, Charli explains that her 20-year-old sister and one very lucky barista were among the first to know about the light and floral scent, which Dixie says she has been spritzing on for the past year.

Social Tourist is expected to hold court through early 2023; the store is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. Keep reading below for more from THR’ s chat with the sisters, and shop the latest Social Tourist apparel online here .

What was it like stepping into the store for the first time? Did you incorporate any social media-friendly design touches?

CHARLI D’AMELIO I don’t think anyone knew what it was going to look like, but as we were talking about what’s actually going to be in the store, [we wanted it to be] functional and super fun but trendy. It’s sick. It turned out perfect.

DIXIE D’AMELIO There’s absolutely lots of [social media-friendly] design touches. In the fitting room, the lights change with what you’re wearing, the [Social Tourist] sticker in the mirror is backwards for when you take a picture.

Everything is very vacation-friendly. Do either of you have any vacations coming up this summer? Which Social Tourist pieces will you be wearing?

DIXIE My summer’s booked but I plan on wearing some of it for the tour, which will be really fun. Maybe we can go on vacation …

CHARLI I don’t have any vacations planned!

With each of you working on projects last year, we’re guessing you both got to be in on each others’ secrets. Charli, did you get to give Dixie a preview of Born Dreamer?

DIXIE I’ve been using it for a year, everyone tells me it smells so good and I wasn’t allowed to say anything.

CHARLI  I was at a [coffee shop] and the woman who was taking my order was like, “Oh my goodness, what perfume are you wearing?” I was like, “I actually cannot tell you, but I’m going to write down the date and where you can get it and the name, but you cannot tell anyone.” It’s having to keep those secrets is the hardest thing in the world because when someone asks, I feel so bad saying, “I cannot tell you.”

I’ve never had a signature perfume that I wore every day and that was super interesting because nowadays with me, perfume is what I do before I leave or before I see anyone, and it just makes me feel so put-together. Not having that, I knew something was missing but I [didn’t want to] go try a whole bunch. I didn’t know how fragrances affected everyone based on their body chemistry … I think that there’s something so fun about Born Dreamer in that it really does work for everyone. All of my friends that I’ve given it to and I talk about it all the time, and I’ve been able to have those conversations — “How does it wear on you?” All of my friends are very different so it’s nice to hear positive feedback from everyone.

Social Tourist Store on Melrose Avenue

And Dixie, did Charli get to hear the album first?

DIXIE Charli wasn’t allowed to hear it.

CHARLI Me, Dixie and [her boyfriend] Noah [Beck] had a listening party and she played three seconds of each song. It’s the most annoying thing in the world because I was like, “Okay, can I hear it?” And she’s like, “Yeah!” And then she shuts [the song] off. I get to hear the first four beats. I love the album and I’ve obviously seen how hard she worked on it for so long, so it’s really nice to see it actually come together and be out and be able to listen to it on Spotify instead of having to search for it in my phone.

Now that summer has officially begun in L.A., what are your favorite skincare hacks for the hotter months?

DIXIE Just face oil, that’s my go-to every day and every night. Whatever’s closest, literally any kind of face oil and I just put it on, that’s the most refreshing feeling for me. I’m very lucky to not have super oily skin, but I have super dry skin. So I literally put it on my hairline too; that’s my go-to for everything.

CHARLI Skincare has been something that I’ve been focusing on a lot. I’ve had some skin struggles for a while, so I’m nursing back to health, and rebuilding my skin barrier is something that I’ve been doing a lot, like morning, afternoon, night, very on a schedule.

Are there any plans to perhaps launch a beauty brand?

CHARLI I think anything’s possible but it’s not in the cards right now. I definitely want to figure [it] out.

DIXIE I think I would do makeup remover wipes.

CHARLI  I think she should do lazy girl makeup.

DIXIE Lazy makeup would be the best thing ever. Literally take it all off and tattoo it on for the day. Now I just had an idea!

Dixie and Charli D'Amelio's Final Holiday Drop Has Hero Pieces to Wear For the Afterparty

social tourist charli and dixie

Dixie and Charli D'Amelio 's final holiday drop from their collection Social Tourist is here, available to shop on Instagram right now and hitting stores and launching online in partnership with Hollister on Dec. 23. "Diaries of a Holiday Tour" Vol. 7 is titled "The After Party," and is comprised of hero items one might wear in a COVID-safe, post-concert environment in the lead-up to the new year. From tattoo-inspired graphics on a mesh long-sleeve top to pants with metallic shine, the six-piece line ranges from $30 to $80 in sizes XS to XL, and is both edgy and comfortable all at once.

"I really love our Corset Sweatshirts, they're so unique and different from an average sweatshirt, making it easy to elevate an outfit with them. I've also been wearing our Ultra High Rise Baggy Faux Leather pants a ton and I love to pair them with the Mock Neck Side Tie Sweater," Charli told POPSUGAR in an exclusive interview. Dixie's approach to holiday dressing revolves around one hero item, which for her is the aforementioned side-tie sweater since it's versatile and easy to pair with basics.

As far as sharing their everyday clothing goes, Charli feels like it's an unspoken rule to be able to shop in your sister's closet, though they no longer live together. That being said, working alongside one another on their clothing line is a treat. "Being able to connect directly with our supporters is such a special feeling. We love hearing their feedback and when we see everyone in Social Tourist it's definitely something I would've never imagined. Seeing people love something we've spent so much time creating is indescribable," Dixie said.

Dixie And Charli D’Amelio To Launch New Clothing Line Social Tourist

Its first drop is coming on May 20.

Dixie and Charli D’Amelio are launching their very own clothing line. On Thursday, Abercrombie & Fitch Co. announced its newest brand, Social Tourist, created by the D’Amelio sisters to target Gen-Z trends often found on social media platforms like TikTok, where the siblings reign supreme.

“We’ve always loved fashion, and it’s been amazing to be so involved in this process,” Dixie, who teased the brand in a recent TikTok post , said in an official statement. “We feel like Social Tourist really represents both of us and explores how our generation is balancing who they are on social media with real life.”

The brand, which will be sold in-stores exclusively at Hollister and online on Social Tourist’s website, will release roughly 80 new styles in its first drop on May 20, with prices ranging from $10 to $80.

“The first product drop is all about introducing the brand to our fans, and the second drop in June reflects our individual personalities,” said Charli in an official statement. “Designs that reflect Dixie’s personality are a bit edgier, with dark color palettes and patterns, where my vibe is shown through super feminine and cute styles. We can’t wait to put our vision out into the world!”

Future Social Tourist collections are expected to launch monthly and will also include tees for men and women, as well as swimwear, fleece jackets, dresses, skirts, and accessories like socks, hats, and water bottles. According to Fran Horowitz, Abercombie & Fitch Co.’s CEO in an interview with WWD , the new brand will be a bit more “elevated” and fashion-forward than the company’s other brands.

“I like to explain to the [A&F] team, you have something called the fashion pyramid. There’s things that are at the top of the pyramid that are a little bit more forward thinking and these girls really pushed that even more forward,” said Horowitz. “They’re really leading when it comes to trend and fashion. And that’s what Social Tourist will do for us, really elevate it a little bit further. It will also be a little bit more expensive than Hollister.”

This new venture is just the latest fashion gig for the D’Amelios, who have already collaborated with and designed collections for Hollister and Pura Vida . The two are also the faces of Morphe 2 .

Social Tourist, a new trend-forward brand created by Charli and Dixie D’Amelio with Hollister Co., was officially launched. The social media lifestyle brand allows teens to experiment with fashion by incorporating the sister’s style with their own. Social Tourist will be available exclusively in Hollister stores and online. This launch is the first of many to come between the sister social media powerhouse and Abercrombie & Fitch Co.

The new brand was created and inspired by the sisters’ experiences at the epicenter of social media and it’s a true reflection of Gen Z’s unique lens of living in a digitally native environment.

“We’ve always loved fashion, and it’s been amazing to be so involved in this process,” said Dixie. Social Tourist will have four distinct apparel lines including gender-inclusive items. “We feel like Social Tourist really represents both of us and explores how our generation is balancing who they are on social media with real life.”

The sisters were involved in product selection, design, branding, positioning, and marketing alongside their father. The brand has become a full-on family affair combining their father’s, Marc D’Amelio, 30-year fashion industry expertise with the girl’s over 250 million Tik Tok following.

Each collection will include limited-edition items, with new product dropping approximately every month. “The first product drop is all about introducing the brand to our fans, and the second drop in June reflects our individual personalities,” said Charli.

“Creating a new brand virtually was no small feat,” said Kristen Scott, the Global Brand President at Abercrombie & Fitch Co. She believes that Charli and Dixie are the quintessential example of what it’s like to grow up in the digital world and that they authentically represent their teen customers’ mindset both online and in real life.

In working with Hollister since 2020, the social media stars have served as “Chief Jeanealogists,” where they tested and approved every aspect of Hollister’s denim. By launching the #MoreHappyDenimDAnce TikTok challenge, they garnered over 5.4 billion views worldwide. In November 2020, Charli became the first TikTok user to surpass 100 million followers on the platform, and December of that same year Dixie graced the digital cover of V.

Charli & Dixie D'Amelio pose for Social Tourist before revealing their takes on controversial Y2K fa...

The D’Amelios’ take on exposed thongs: "My underwear’s for function, not fashion."

Trends emerge, fade, and return with a vengeance faster than most people can keep track of. But when they do, one thing's for sure: Everyone's got an opinion. In Elite Daily's Style series IMHO , we'll serve you the details, along with some not-so-humble opinions, on the viral style trends lighting up the internet. Below, TikTokers and Social Tourist founders Charli and Dixie D’Amelio give their hot takes on controversial Y2K fashion trends .

Charli and Dixie D’Amelio aren’t just the moment, they’re the future. With nearly 2 billion TikTok followers — and counting — combined, these sisters are two of the top influencers of Gen Z and millennial trends across multiple spaces including social media, beauty, music, and style. So when I got the chance to speak with them at their Social Tourist pop-up shop in Los Angeles, there was no way I could pass up the opportunity to ask the trendsetters their hot takes on controversial Y2K fashion trends making a comeback in 2022 . Let’s just say, you won’t be seeing them wearing exposed thongs anytime soon.

“I’m always down to try new things,” the 20-year-old a letter to me singer tells Elite Daily at the first anniversary celebration of the D’Amelios’ fashion brand with Hollister. The 18-year-old Born Dreamer founder echoes her sister’s sentiments, saying that the whole point of developing your style is “having outfits that you can look back on and be like, ‘I wouldn’t do that again.’” But there are more than a few looks the pair just aren’t here for.

Hang on to your low-rise jeans, because Charli and Dixie D’Amelio have some thoughts on the Y2K fashion trends making their way back into teens’ closets.

Low-Rise Jeans

Paris Hilton wears low-rise jeans, which are controversial Y2K fashion trends that Charli and Dixie ...

Low-rise jeans gets an instant “love” from both Charli and Dixie. But don’t worry about the fate of your alternate denimwear. The pair’s favorite items in the latest Social Tourist drop are the high-rise jeans. Charli even confesses that she stole her sister’s Highest Rise Baggy Heart Patch Jeans ($80).

LaChanze wearing a tracksuit, which is a controversial Y2K fashion trend that Charli and Dixie D'Ame...

Charli and Dixie are obsessed with matching sets, so it’s no wonder they’re pro tracksuits. According to Dixie, they’re “easy,” which is why they love them so much.

The Terry Dad Shirt ($40) and matching Dad Short ($30) sets in their Social Tourist collection feel like a summer version of a comfy tracksuit that you can wear around the house or out while running errands.

Butterfly Hair Clips

Butterfly hair clips are a nostalgic Y2K fashion trend that Charli and Dixie D'amelio give their hot...

It seems butterfly hair clips are also here to stay, with some caveats. While Charli is a fan, saying “they’re adorable,” Dixie admits that she “would break them.” Luckily, you can find some pretty cheap butterfly hair clips across the internet, so they’re easily replaceable.

Exposed Thongs

Alexa Demie from 'Euphoria' wears an exposed thong, which is a controversial Y2K fashion trend that ...

This may be one of the most controversial fashion trends that millennials will be happy to leave in the past. Of course, Britney Spears and Manny Santos of Degrassi: The Next Generation dominated the exposed thong fashion trend in the early 2000s, but do Charli and Dixie think it should come back in 2022? “No,” Dixie quickly answers. “My underwear’s for function, not fashion.”

While Charli agrees that she would not be partaking in the exposed thing fashion trend, she does admit, “I feel like it would be cool. I like the look of the bathing suit and low-rise, baggy pants, you know?”

Cargo Pants

Charli and Dixie D'Amelio give their takes on Y2K fashion trends like the cargo pants that Lola Tung...

Cargo pants got a “love” from Charli and a “yes” from Dixie, so you know they’re coming back. If you’re looking for some Y2K-inspired OOTD inspo, the Ultra High-Rise Baggy Cargo Jeans ($80) from Social Tourist will look super cute with one of the crop tops ($25).

Dresses Over Jeans

Charli and Dixie give their takes on Y2K fashion trends like this dresses over jeans look that Issa ...

Who could forget the iconic dresses-over-jeans look that Disney Channel stars like Ashley Tisdale and Miley Cyrus wore on the red carpet? The ensemble is so controversial, Charli has a hard time deciding whether she likes it. “No” is the first word out of her mouth, but then the TikToker changes her mind, landing on “love.” For Dixie, though, it’s an automatic no, and she’s sticking to it.

Mini Skirts

Charli and Dixie D'Amelio give their hot takes on Y2K fashion trends like the denim mini skirt that ...

Mini skirts were not a hard choice for Charli and Dixie. Both sisters agreed this Y2K fashion trend needs to make a comeback , with Charli sharing she “absolutely loves” the trend. There are a few mini skirts in the Social Tourist collection, like this Ultra High-Rise Side Button Denim Mini Skirt ($45), if you need inspiration.

Thin Scarves

Charli and Dixie D'Amelio give their takes on Y2K fashion trends like the skinny scarf that Lindsay ...

Raise your hand if you remember wearing useless thin scarves around your neck in the early 2000s. Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, and even the Jonas Brothers were all thin scarf lovers at one point, but Dixie won’t be throwing on a useless scarf before heading out the door. “I'm gonna have to say no,” she shares. While Charli doesn’t admit whether she would try the Y2K trend, she says, “I feel like if you tie them cool, they can be cool.”

The Social Tourist pop-up shop in Los Angeles is open on Melrose Avenue. For more on Charli and Dixie D’Amelios’ clothing brand, you can shop the latest from Social Tourist in store and online now.

Moscow metro to be more tourist-friendly

For many years now, Moscow has lagged behind St. Petersburg when it comes to making life easy for tourists, especially where getting around the city is concerned. Whereas the northern capital installed English-language maps, signs and information points throughout its subway system in the late 2000s, the Russian capital’s metro remained a serious challenge for foreign visitors to navigate.

Recent visitors to Moscow may have noticed some signs that change is afoot, however. In many stations of the Moscow subway, signs have appeared on the floor – with large lettering in Russian and English – indicating the direction to follow in order to change lines. Previously, foreign visitors using the Moscow metro had to rely solely upon deciphering the Russian-language signs hanging from the ceilings.

Student volunteers help tourists find their way in Moscow

However, this new solution has a significant drawback. “The floor navigation is visible only to a small stream of people – fewer than three people per meter. During peak hours, this navigation will simply not be noticed,” said Konstantin Trofimenko, Director of the Center for Urban Transportation Studies.

One of the biggest problems for tourists in the Russian capital remains the absence of English translations of the names of subway stations in the station vestibules and on platforms. The Department of Transportation in Moscow has not commented yet as to when this problem will be solved. However, Latin transliterations of station names can already be found in the subway cars themselves.

Finding the right exit

At four of the central stations – Okhotny Ryad, Teatralnaya, Ploshchad Revolyutsii, Lubyanka and Kuznetsky Most – the city authorities have now installed colorful stands at the exits with schematic diagrams of the station’s concourse and surrounding area, which provide information about the main attractions and infrastructural facilities.

The schematic diagrams are the work of British specialists from the City ID and Billings Jackson Design firms, who have already implemented successful projects in New York and London.

According to Alexei Novichkov, expert at the Design Laboratory at the Higher School of Economics, the design of these information booths raises no objections: The color solutions, font, layout and icons are consistent with international standards.

Kudankulam

However, the stands do have some shortcomings. “Many questions are raised about the fact that the developers of these maps did not apply orientation to the north, and have provided layouts of the surrounding areas with respect to the exits,” says Novichkov. “A system like that is used for road navigators, but most of the ‘paper’ guides and maps are oriented strictly to north. The subway map is also oriented to north, so people may become confused.”

Muscovites and foreign visitors are generally positive about these navigation elements, with most of them citing the numbered exits from the subway as the most useful feature.

The fact is that many Moscow subway stations have several exits. One of the busiest central stations of the Moscow subway in particular, Kitay-Gorod, has more than a dozen exits. Previously, these exits were differentiated from each other only with signs in Russian referring to the names of streets and places of interest to which they led – making it easy for tourists and those with poor navigation skills to get confused.

Now, when making an appointment to meet a friend, instead of struggling to find the right spot when they tell you: “I'll meet you at the exit to Solyanka Street,” you can just propose to meet under a specific exit number.

“I’ve lived in Moscow for seven years,” says Angelika, a designer from Voronezh, “but I still don’t always know where to go to find the place I need, so the new schematic diagrams will be very useful. Previously, some subway stations had maps, but not with so much detail.”

Teething problems

Foreigners, meanwhile, focus their attention on other elements. “It is good that the new information boards have QR-codes, which can be ‘read’ by smartphones,” says Florentina, a writer from Vienna. But there are also shortcomings. “The English font of the information on posters and in the captions to theaters and museums is too small – you have to come very close to see it well,” she says.

Pleasant encounters on the streets of Moscow

Florentina was also dissatisfied with the fact that such posters are not provided at all subway stations: “When I was trying to find Tsaritsyno Park (a museum and reserve in the south of Moscow) at a subway station with the same name, it turned out to be quite difficult,” she says.

“There are no maps with landmarks for other areas, such as those already in the city center. There were no clear pointers in the English language, and the passers-by I met did not speak in English, so they could not help me,” she adds.

Officials say that the navigation system is gradually being redeveloped and improved. According to Darya Chuvasheva, a press representative for the Department of Transport of Moscow, the introduction of a unified navigation system will take place in stages.

“By the end of 2014, the system will first appear on the first subway stations on the Circle Line. By the end of 2015, we plan to install the system at all major stopping points, subway stations and transport interchange hubs,” says Chuvasheva.

Russia's Nuclear Deterrent Command Center Imperiled by Winter Freeze—Report

A Russian nuclear deterrent command center in Moscow has been imperiled by power outages that have impacted more than one-quarter of the region's cities amid freezing temperatures, a Russian Telegram channel has reported.

The VChK-OGPU outlet, which purports to have inside information from Russian security forces, reported that the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings—part of the Russian Space Forces, a branch of the country's Aerospace Forces—near Solnechnogorsk in Moscow is without power.

It serves as the space forces early warning network against potential ballistic missile attacks.

The development comes as Russians are reported to be suffering from power outages in their homes in the Moscow region caused by technical issues at plants amid subzero temperatures.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is about 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov and Naro-Fominsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky and Selyatino are also without power.

The Telegram channel said that at the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings, "the crew...is on duty around the clock."

"It is here that the decision on a retaliatory nuclear strike is executed," the channel said.

Newsweek could not independently verify the report and has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.

Power outages have also been reported in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, in the country's western Voronezh region, in the southwest city of Volgograd, and in Rostov, which borders Ukraine, a country that Russia has been at war with since February 24, 2022.

On Sunday, two shopping malls in St. Petersburg were forced to close because of problems with light and heating, reported local news outlet 78.ru. Hundreds of other homes in the city have had no electricity, water or heating for days amid temperatures of -25 C (-13 F).

Russian authorities have also been forced to compensate passengers of a train that ran from Samara to St. Petersburg (a 20-hour journey) without heating during -30 C (-22 F) temperatures. Videos circulating on social media showed carriage windows frozen over. A passenger also said the toilet didn't work during the trip because of frozen pipes.
