EXCELLENT SERVICE

It's the CNY festive season, and today even though it was pretty jam from Malacca to Singapore, my journey with WTS Travel has been by far the best. Thanks and kudos to Rozy and Driver of Bus 8855. BEST Experience EVER. They were very accommodating to my 1 elderly and 1 disabled brother, even to the extend of helping my brother get on and off the bus. Rozy is very caring and nice, and comical, often cracking jokes to lighten up the atmosphere of the bus. The driver was very patient and even helped to load and unload our luggages from the bottom boot. Why i say it's excellent service, because on my trip up with another bus company, the driver showed no compassion and patience for my family, all passengers had to load and unload our own luggages. I would definitely travel with WTS Travel again when i go up to Malacca. Again Thank you Rozy and Driver 8855, you both are the BEST!! I hope to be riding in your service again.

Lousy hotel (Resort Hotel) as stated by WTS hotel just upgraded. First time encounter hotel with no wifi, hotel room doesn't look like is has been Reno before. Room with a stink smell when enter. Worse of all, bus back to Singapore been delayed for 2 to 2hrs 30 mins. Been informed just 10 mins before reported time stipulated by WTS. Left alone stranded in Genting with kids and big luggages. Will never ever engaged WTS again . (09/12/22).

It was a horrible experience we had with WTS travel for our return bus tickets from Malacca to Singapore. I booked 2 ways tickets from Singapore to Malacca. Before we reached Hatten Hotel, the bus assistant checked with us if we had booked for our returned bus ticket with them as her records only shown one- way. When I showed her my email confirmation on our 3pm returned tickets, she then wrote down on a piece of paper and advised us to wait at the Hotel lobby 2.30pm on the day of return and the bus driver will come and look for us. On the day of returned, we followed her instruction and happily waiting for the bus driver to come and look for us. At 2.45pm, I suspected something is not right and I quickly ran to the dropping point, hotel next to where we stayed, where the bus alighted us. The coach bay was quiet and when I managed to whatsapp call WTS, I was told they does not have our returned tickets booking ! The staff quickly pushed the blame to OnlinBus ticket where I booked my tickets from. What a bad customer service, in the first place if our returned booking is not in WTS records (where we had already paid for our tickets when we booked), the bus assistant should not commit to tell us to wait at the Hotel lobby. WTS should tell passengers to wait at the same drop off point for the return trip ( in our case, we learned from the Hotel concierge) instead of telling passengers to wait for the bus driver at the Hotel lobby where I am doubtful this is going to happen, Because of the 'no records found in WTS' for our returned tickets, we ended up caught another bus from Melaka Sentral to come back to Singapore. We also have paid extra $ for taxi home and wasted 3 hours for this unbelievable stressfully experience. Worst of all, feedback the unpleasant experience to WTS, more than 10 days had passed, I have not received any reply nor an email acknowledgement.

The worst I have ever been in my life. We waited in Malaysia custom for like dun know how long to wait for next bus change. Pls dun ever book this bus service .

Worst Travel company to book your trip with. Calls are all not answered. Last minute they will tell you that your room is not available due to lapse. What kind of answer is that? You bring us to Genting but no rooms for us to stay?! Bought Concert tickets from WTS But in the end unable to redeem the ticket here. Thus unable to see the concert. Book with this company at your own risk.

Overall good experience. The staff is quite friendly to quickly reply and answer to my queries. This has made the whole trip really smooth

Moscow guide&photo! Feel Putin vibes and explore the enigmatic Russian soul through history ...

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.

On Pointe On Stage - 'Swan Lake' Greenville Debut A Tour De Force For International Ballet

Composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, “Swan Lake” was performed for the first time nearly 150 years ago by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow. It has graced the world’s stages ever since.

In May, the classic will make its Greenville debut at the Peace Center Concert Hall, accompanied by the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, and presented by the Upstate’s own International Ballet.

“This is the first time that a full-length ‘Swan Lake’ has ever been performed in Greenville. I still find myself shocked that we're really doing it,” says Sarah Shoemaker, President of International Ballet.

“It's very exciting. The Tchaikovsky score is gorgeous … the Greenville Symphony Orchestra … the amazing dancers … the magic of bringing it all together in a live setting … There’s nothing like it.”

International Ballet was founded in 2003 by Lena Forster, who trained at the School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet, under George Balanchine.

The academy in Greer would teach a style of dance that originated in Russia called Vaganova, a classical ballet technique that trains dancers known for their precision, endurance and athleticism.

Ukrainian dancer Vlada Kysselova is among the co-founders of the academy and ballet company. Now the Artistic Director, she has spent the past year helping to plan the production and readying young dancers for their roles in “Swan Lake.”

“The girls in our pre-professional company are working and training so hard. I go into rehearsals and am so impressed. The precision is beautiful,” Shoemaker says.

“Vlada never raises her voice. She never yells at them. But she’s detail-oriented. She will stop the music and have the girls dance a section again and again. And it works. It elevates them.”

Those 22 dancers, high school students, will make up the corps de ballet; 16 professional guest artists will join them.

“Visually, the corps de ballet moves like one body,” Shoemaker says. “When you see birds in the sky, and they all do the same thing, together, at the same time ... That's what the corps de ballet should look like. The audience will gasp at the beauty. It’s an emotional experience.”

Dancers in the lead roles – Prince Siegfried, the Swan Queen Odette, and sorcerer Baron Von Rothbart – will come from the San Francisco Ballet.

“I think people will be awestruck to see dancers of this caliber. San Francisco Ballet is one of the best dance companies in America,” Shoemaker says.

Three alumni from International Ballet Academy, who now dance with other companies, are among the guest artists.

Since its founding, Shoemaker says that International Ballet has retained its commitment to productions, technique, and classes for everyone from moms with toddlers to serious young dancers, adults and professionals.

Other things have changed – including Shoemaker being tapped to lead the organization.

“I didn't seek out this position. Now, it feels like an honor,” she says.

The transition began when a key staff member left the ballet. Shoemaker says she volunteered to help out.

Instead, Forster asked her to work part time. Then, just six months later, Forster announced that she wanted to retire. She asked Shoemaker if she would prepare to take the reins.

“I had a panic attack. I'm not exaggerating,” says Shoemaker, who moved to Greenville 10 years ago with her husband and children after a career as a dancer, dance instructor and actor.

“Part of me knew that my whole life had led up to something like this. It was a service. An amazing woman built this; she wanted to retire; the organization needed leadership; and I knew I could do it.

“I was like, ‘Okay God, I'll say yes.’”

Forster sold the dance academy to the Board of Directors of the nonprofit ballet in 2018. The next year, she retired. Shoemaker became Executive Director, then President.

“I’m proud of Lena for being able to hand over her organization and trust that we would be okay,” Shoemaker says.

Neither Forster nor Shoemaker expected that a full-length production of “Swan Lake” would come a few years later.

“We're excited that Greenville is able to support something like this. It’s next level. It’s going to be incredible,” Shoemaker says.

International Ballet presents three stage performances each year: a mixed repertoire in the fall; “The Nutcracker,” which sold out three shows at the Peace Center last December; and a spring ballet, this year the ambitious “Swan Lake.”

With the Peace Center as its venue, the symphony performing the score, guest artists, sets and dozens of costumes, staging the four-act ballet will cost more than $200,000, Shoemaker says.

“The costumes are incredibly difficult to make, and they all have to be exquisite. There’s a lot of sewing going on,” she says.

“This is only possible because of the generous financial support of the community and the number of talented dancers in our company.”

Last summer, the organization began to repay that support with outreach.

“We are more than a school that exists to serve our dancers and their families. We are receiving enough funding from enough organizations for enough purposes that we have a responsibility to serve the community,” Shoemaker says.

International Ballet’s Project Pirouette expands opportunities for children who otherwise might not be exposed to ballet; an Accessibility Class, still taught by Forster, provides dance lessons to adults with intellectual disabilities; and Storytime Ballet is a collaboration with the Greenville County Library System.

“Just like the dancers on the stage, we work to try to make beautiful things happen,” Shoemaker says. “We’re in the business of uplifting the community. I love Greenville, and I love so many things that Greenville’s doing, and we just want to be part of that.”

Right now, she and the rest of the staff at International Ballet are working to make sure that every seat is filled on May 25 and 26 when the curtain rises on “Swan Lake” at the Peace Center.

“When we're listening to that score live, in that venue, with that ballet … I know how special it’s going to be.”

"Swan Lake" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 25 and at 3 p.m. May 26 at the Peace Center Concert Hall, at the corner of Broad Street and Main Street in Downtown Greenville. To purchase tickets, call (864) 467-3000, visit the on-site box office, or go to https://www.peacecenter.org/events . (Make certain to use only the official Peace Center website to purchase tickets.)

10 things I wish tourists knew before visiting Greece, from a local

  • I'm from Athens, and I've seen plenty of tourists make mistakes while traveling to Greece .
  • Pace yourself if you're planning on staying out at the bars and clubs all night.
  • It's worth it to do some research on smaller islands and local cuisine before your trip.

Insider Today

Thanks to its ancient ruins, picturesque beaches, and incredible food, Greece is one of the top tourist destinations. In 2023, over 32 million people visited.

I was born in Athens and currently split my years living between the US and Greece , so I've spent plenty of time in the beautiful European country.

Here are 10 things I think tourists should know before visiting.

There’s so much more to see in Greece than the popular islands.

wts local tour

It seems like everyone visits Mykonos, Santorini, and maybe Paros, but Greece has over 220 inhabitable islands. Plus, most of them are more budget-friendly than the popular spots.

I recommend looking into places like Kimolos, Astypalaia, Paxoi (also known as Paxos and Paxi), or Folegandros.

The Greek mainland is also beautiful. There's a lot to see there, from UNESCO sites at Delphi and Meteora and the turquoise waters of the Peloponnese to the stunning mountains and villages of Epirus.

Athens is more than the Acropolis.

wts local tour

Athens has great nightlife , restaurants, museums, and cool neighborhoods like Plaka, Exarcheia, Psyrri, and Pangrati.

Tourists who just swing by to check the Acropolis off their list are missing out. I've always found it to be one of the liveliest cities in the world.

You don’t need to tip 20%.

wts local tour

Greek servers generally rely on hourly wages, so there isn't the same tipping culture as the US .

I normally just round up the bill or leave a couple of Euros on the table as a tip — unless I had exceptional service or dined at a more formal (and tourist-oriented) restaurant.

Pace yourself when drinking alcohol.

wts local tour

A lot of travelers take advantage of Greece's lax attitude toward alcohol restrictions. Coupled with the fact that Greek bars and clubs close pretty late (like 4 a.m. late), some tourists get sloppy.

Locals usually intersperse drinks with food and water so they can last the whole night, and I recommend tourists do the same.

Slow down and take Sundays off.

wts local tour

Greeks have a pretty relaxed relationship with time — people often arrive late and stores may open half an hour after they said they would.

Service in Greece can seem slow to people from more fast-paced places, especially on the quieter islands . A lot of stores and supermarkets are also closed on Sundays, even in Athens.

I know this can be annoying at times, but I recommend just enjoying the slower pace of life.

Don’t try to visit too many islands on one trip.

wts local tour

So many people ask me if they can fit four or five islands into a seven-day trip, and I never recommend it. Take your time and enjoy each destination for at least a couple of days.

Half the joy of the Greek islands is getting to destress. If you're hopping from ferry to ferry and running around to cover the highlights, you'll miss out on the best parts of the country.

Be sensitive about natural disasters.

wts local tour

I never thought I'd have to say this, but I have seen multiple tourists in the last few years posting about how "pretty" the skies or sunsets are thanks to the glow from raging wildfires .

At a time when a lot of Greek people are wondering if their houses are still standing or their loved ones have gotten to safety, it's a pretty insensitive thing to do.

Don't skip out on experiencing a traditional taverna.

wts local tour

Athens and other popular Greek destinations now have a lot of upscale restaurants with cuisines from all over the world. But make sure to eat in a traditional taverna at least once.

A taverna is a casual restaurant with family-style dining. Diners can spend hours in them chatting with friends while sharing food paired with some great wine or ouzo (a Greek aperitif).

Greek food is more than just gyros.

wts local tour

Well-known dishes like gyros and souvlaki are truly delicious, but Greek cuisine is so much more than that.

For example, a lot of Greeks start their day with a tiropita (cheese pie) and freddo coffee. Each region also has local specialties that I recommend inquiring about.

In tavernas, popular menu items include calamari, octopus, all kinds of fish, grilled and fried cheeses (like saganaki and halloumi), and side dishes like fava.

Learn a few local words.

wts local tour

Most younger Greek people understand English, but you may run into problems communicating with older people — especially in more rural areas.

Even if a local person can understand you, I think it's nice to learn a few simple words and phrases like "good morning," "thank you," and "how are you?"

It's nice when tourists make a little bit of an effort.

Tour Durban crowns new champions

There were more than 3 000 entrants from riding communities across durban who took part in ‘durban’s favourite weekend of cycling’..

wts local tour

JOSH Rheeders claimed his first-ever victory at this year’s aQuellé Tour Durban men’s cycle race title in Durban on Sunday, with Upper Highway star cyclist Joanna van de Winkel claiming the women’s title.

Van de Winkel (Sandton City Cycle Nation cycling team) collected four trophies after Sunday’s road race as she made up for the disappointment of finishing second in Saturday’s 40km mountain bike race.

“I was quite disappointed after the mountain bike. I thought I had won on Saturday, but when we went off track, I did not know where I was when I joined again. So that was a bit disappointing, but today made up for it,” Van de Winkel said.

wts local tour

Rheeders from the Luso ACDC Pro Cycling team was a dominant force in the lead group and timed his finishing sprint to perfection to come out of a big group of riders to claim his first Tour Durban win.

“I am very happy with this win. It was very tactical today. There was one team with six riders, and they were kind of messing us around all race. I was in a move on the last lap, and then it all came back together, so I then sat in until the sprint, and I took it from a long way out as we hit the descent. With the tailwind, I was able to carry it to the finish,” he said.

wts local tour

Fast-paced action in MTB race

In Saturday’s aQuellé Tour Durban 40km MTB race powered by Cycle Lab, Tyronne White showed his prowess on the bike, claiming the top spot.

The 40km race, which started and finished near Cornubia Mall, was dominated by White and riders he coaches, and he led home a DriveTrain Academy clean-sweep of the top four positions.

The women’s race was also a triumph for DriveTrain, with young Madison Bateson, who rode the 40km for the first time after winning the 20km last year, produced the shock of the day. She edged out last year’s winner, Joanna Van De Winkel.

“It is such a nice race,” said White after crossing the line. “It is a hard race and a bit of a different kind of race because you are hard on the pedals the whole way. My average power for the ride is really high.”

In the trail run at the same venue, Ewoud Grobler and Nokukhanya Meyiwa proved too strong for their rivals in the 20km event, and they wrote a small piece of history by winning the first event aQuellĂŠ Tour Durban Trail titles.

About 3 000 entries from the huge riding communities in the greater Durban area – from Ballito and uMhlanga in the north, to the Berea, Bluff and South Coast riders in the south, to the Pinetown and Kloof in the West – took part in the ‘Durban’s Favourite Weekend of Cycling’.
