Taxis in goa.

The tourist taxis at the gate are white. The official taxis of Goa are the regular yellow and black taxis, but you will find only tourist taxis (white ones) are waiting at the cruise dock. Aside from tourist taxi’s yellow and black rickshaws are also waiting at the port gate. These taxis do not have a meter. Please be sure to make a price agreement before you step into the taxi. Taxis take US dollar and Indian Rupee. Try to negotiate a taxi for no more than 80 US dollars a day. We recommend to arrange for the taxi to stay with you all day long instead of finding a car on location to go back to port. Prices underneath are what a taxi should cost. Keep in mind it all depends on the supply and demand of taxis, therefore prices could vary. 2 – 10 us dollars by rickshaw to Vasco da Gama (closest town) 20 us dollar to the beach 50 us dollars one way to Old Goa 60 – 80 us dollars full day

From the port it is possible to take public transportation although we do not advise you to do so because it will not get you to any of the tourist sights and it might not be meeting your comfort level. Find the local bus stop on the square in front of the port exit. Pay the driver 3 Indian Rupee for a ticket.

This is the closest beach to the cruise terminal and it is nice! There is fancy hotel and some local shops that provide you with anything you need. Seating facilities however are limited, so make sure to bring a towel! The snorkelling here is great, although you will need to bring your own snorkel. The beach is about 15 km from port. Pay no more than 20 us dollars one way by taxi.

Old Goa used to be the capital of the Portuguese colony. Over time the Portuguese build the largest Christian churches in South Asia here in Goa. Eventually due to mayor outbreaks of cholera the capital was moved in 1843. The churches are nowadays in bad shape but they still reveal the former glory of the Portuguese empire. That makes this town a must see for anyone that has an interest for religious architecture and Catholic history. Find Old Goa about 30 km north east of the port.

This is the nearest local town to the cruise dock. Find it just over the hill. Because it is hot and quite a walking distance we don’t recommend to walk it, rather take a tuk tuk. There are absolutely no tourist site in this town, just local life.

On the island of Chorao you will find the bird-watchers paradise Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. It is about 1,8 sq km. It is not just local and migrating bird that you will find here. You can also spot flying foxes and crocodiles. To get there take a taxi from the dock to the Ribandar ferry wharf and take the ferry across the Mandovi river to the island of Chorao. The bird sanctuary is within walkin distance from the ferry wharf. Find this bird sanctuary about 32 km north of the port.

Although the area of Goa might be all about the Portuguese history, let’s not forget that the mayor religion of the area today is Hindu. About 65% of the population is Hindu. Visit the Sri Mangueshi temple which is one of the largest and most popular hindu temples in the area. The temple is 400 years old and devoted to the reincarnated version of Shiva: Manguesh. Remember: When visiting the temple shoulder and midriffs must be covered and shoes must be removed. Find this temple 36 km east of the port.

If you want to get into local life visit the local village of Margao. It is Goa’s second largest city. Visit its market to get a sense of what the local cuisine and local products are all about. Find Margao about 28 km south of the port.

Close to Panji you will find one of the many fortifications dominating the Goan coastline. Fort Aguda was build in the early 1600’s to protect the entry of the rivier that would lead to Old Goa. Portuguese ships would make the long journey over from Lisbon to Goa and this would be the first place where they would receive their fresh water and welcome. Find Fort Aguda 45 km north for the port.

It is believed that she was both a princess and a noted scholar, who became a Christian at around the age of 14 and also converted hundreds of people to Christianity, and was martyred around the age of 18. Catherine was known to be a spiritual pathfinder and raise her voice against the oppression of the Christians under the rule of Roman emperor Maxentius. She was so strong and logical with her arguments that the king himself was incapable of countering them and has a then he formed a committee of 50 philosophers to debate her ideas.However, even the assembly conceded defeat in front of her and confessed Christianity as their belief. Out of anger, the king burnt the philosophers alive and sentenced st.catherine to prison. Catherine did not give up, and she was succeeded in converting not only the jailers but also the king's wife. It is believed that she showed the path of Christianity to 200 people. Even when she was facing the worse condition of her life, she continued to stretch the word of Jesus. She was honoured with the title of"patroness of the wheel-wrights" because it is believed then when she was fastened to a spiked wheel as it was mentioned in her death sentence the wheel broke and she was left uninjured. And when she was finally beheaded, it is said that angle took her remains and laid them to rest atop Mount Sinai. When you visit the Se Cathedral, you can witness the Saint Catherine ornaments, a crown portraying her royal birth and has a book in her hands, which signifies her sound knowledge as she points a spiked wheel, which reveals her martyrdom.Se Cathedral HistoryThe Cathedral is devoted to St. Catherine of Alexandria, it is said that it was built to celebrate the victory of the Portuguese ruler Alfonso Albuquerque who destroyed the Muslim army and took ownership of the city of Goa. Consequently, it is also called St. Catherine's' Cathedral. In 1953, the Cathedral was presented with "The Golden Rose" by Venerable Pope Pius XII. It is a gold ornament, which the Popes of the Catholic Church have traditionally favoured and given as a symbol of devotion or affection.You can witness it as it is placed on the tomb of St. Francis Xavier. It was approved by Governor George Cabral to be spread in 1552 on the remains of an earlier structure. The formation of the church began in 1562. The church was completed in 1619 and was consecrated in 1640.  It is a perfect place to experience a blend of peace and tranquillity. You will be filled with positivity when you will visit this sacred place.The architecture of Se Cathedral  The architecture of Se Cathedral is awe-inspiring and elegant. The architectural style is a blend of Gothic elements and typical Portuguese style, or you can say that the architecture style of the Se Cathedral is Portuguese-Manueline. There were two different techniques that were opted to make the church. The exterior was made in Tuscan style and the interior has been built in and Corinthian style. With dimensions of 250 feet long and 181 feet wide, this church has a  delightfully decorated entrance that measures around 115 feet in height. The church is amazingly decorated, yet the style is intriguing and simple. The Cathedral has been built on an elevated base of laterite, which is covered with the thick lime plaster.You can also see the bell tower which is located on the southern side of the façade. The building of the church is rectangular on the plan but has a cruciform layout in the interior. The main altar is devoted to Catherine of Alexandria, and you can also see several old paintings on either side of it. You can also see the Chapel, which is known as the Cross of Miracles, it is believed that there was an image of Christ that was said to have appeared in 1619.

Around 1.8 million Germans took a cruise in 2015, more than 800,000 of which traveled on board one of the 10 ships of the AIDA fleet. Over the coming years, AIDA Cruises will commission four ships of a completely new generation, thus doubling its capacity.

In order to continue our growth trajectory successfully, we are looking for qualified and motivated specialist and executive staff to support AIDA Cruises in giving its guests an unforgettable holiday aboard our fleet.

The job families at AIDA Cruises are called “Marine” and “Guests” on board and “Business” on land. Experienced professionals and entry-level staff alike can expect attractive working conditions, exciting professional challenges and careers in the fields of navigation and technology, gastronomy and hospitality, well-being and sports, and tourism and business management.

We are looking for the best talents in all job families. To this end, we organize our Applicants’ Days across Germany and Austria, present our company at domestic and international career fairs and cooperate closely with a range of vocational colleges, technical schools and universities.

AIDA Cruises already prioritizes practicality during the application process. Interested applicants get to experience the working environment on board of a ship from the modern AIDA fleet first-hand during the exclusive AIDA Career Days. Professionals have an opportunity of showcasing their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the kitchen, restaurant and at the bar. They are also granted an insight into everyday life and work aboard a modern cruise ship and given information on staff benefits. Crew members from the respective areas guide the visitors through the ship, relating their personal, first-hand experiences. The program also includes personal interviews and Q&A sessions with colleagues on board and HR decision makers. Those who convince us and also pass the subsequent selection process will receive a contractual commitment and the opportunity to travel to the most beautiful parts of the planet together with their new floating workplace. We also offer exciting opportunities to artists. They get to showcase their talent and skills at our worldwide casting events.

We updated and expanded our careers portal, www.aida-jobs.de , in 2015 to help potential applicants find out about their career opportunities with AIDA in a more convenient and comprehensive way. To ensure easy access on the go, we have optimized its compatibility with mobile devices. In addition, we have further expanded our presence as an employer in the social-media channels of Facebook, XING and LinkedIn. In 2015, the number of followers on our “AIDA Jobs” Facebook page rose to more than 17,100. Besides our open vacancies at sea and on land, we post interesting insights into the life and work at AIDA every day.

Work in an international team, excellent career perspectives and the opportunity of traveling the world on a floating workplace are important factors in our attractiveness as an employer, along with the individual job profiles themselves.

AIDA is a globally operating company, which is why we are also committed to recruiting and training our young talent around the world. We work with selected training centers in the Philippines, India, Vietnam and Indonesia. In 2015 alone, we trained a total of 2,126 employees in 171 training programs at those centers, some of which took place over the course of several weeks. They targeted entry-level staff, executives and specialists alike and included language courses.

Additional recruiting activities involving the training centers in the above-mentioned markets and Mauritius took place in the same year. On top of that, AIDA Cruises has boosted its recruiting initiatives in Europe. For 2016, we are planning to expand our recruitment activities to Turkey, Sri Lanka and China.
