BAD//DREEMS The Hoo Ha! Tour

Not long now kids! Adelaide rock band Bad//Dreems will release their new album HOO HA! on 19 May 2023. Yesterday they revealed the fourth cut from the album, New Breeze . The song captures the frustration, malaise and confusion of the post-pandemic world.

“We looked forward to a utopia at the end of the pandemic, but life is never that simple. You end up just pissing in a different breeze” says Alex Cameron (guitar) in relation to the song’s creation.

In a similar vein to the spontaneous pub prose of previous single See You Tomorrow (most playlisted song on streaming services in Australia on release) front man Ben Marwe leads the listener in a vaudevillian romp, replete with a Canned Heat-esque flute hook. Going up the country indeed.

The song is chock full of the bands characteristically wry observational lyrics, in which high and low culture, Australian slang and historical and contemporary references combine in catharsis.

Visuals of these motifs are apparent in the charming low budget clip, as Marwe plays dress ups in the form of a local football yob, a sinister speed-dealer-chainsaw-thrusting wrongdoer, a holy man, and a dishevelled looter that wouldn’t look out of place on the set of Two Hands . Footage of political leaders, shamed servicemen and religious figureheads accompany the ‘wackadoo’ collection of Marwe’s alter-egos – pieced together nicely by long-time filmic collaborator of the band, Tom Stevens.

HOO HA! album #4 for Bad//Dreems, began its life post pandemic in a small studio in Adelaide, located in a disused neo-gothic incinerator designed by Walter Burley Griffin and containing Billy Thorpe’s old Neve recording desk. “We had a new found appreciation and zest for being able to play together that created the energy of the album,” Marwe said of the experience.

The songs were taken to Melbourne and recorded with Dan Luscombe (Amyl and the Sniffers, Courtney Barnett, the Drones) at Soundpark Studio in early 2022. The result epitomises the power of Bad//Dreems, where pub rock meets art-rock and where high a low culture collide to paint a vivid picture of our times.

First single Mansfield 6.0 describes the surreal events of September 2021 when inner city construction workers rioted on the streets of Melbourne protesting mandatory vaccination, at the same time an earthquake shook the city (6.0 on the Richter scale at Mansfield). Second single Jack , a passionate track which spoke to Australia’s deliberate erasure of Indigenous history and identity.

“If the truth is going to be told, then white Australia will have to listen,” Cameron said upon its release.

And the recently released See You Tomorrow which is like a history lesson on speed as vocalist Ben Marwe spews out irrational one liners that spar with each other, ducking and diving between references of childhood memories, Eastern Russia, and Channel 7’s ‘Kochie’.

Bad//Dreems yesterday announced a run of metro city dates including Sydney to launch HOO HA! live. Hailed as one of the most vital guitar acts in the country, the songs from HOO HA! are set to take on another life live on stage. Tickets are on sale 8am AEST Wednesday 19 April.

“There was a significant possibility that we may never have been able to record or play together again. If we were to do so I made a pledge to say exactly what I wanted to and make music true to only ourselves. Bugger the consequences,” Cameron declared.

Bad//Dreems Announce East Coast Spring Tour Dates

Adelaide rock outfit Bad//Dreems have announced a run of tour dates for October and November. The news of group’s spring tour follows on from the release of their latest single, ‘Mansfield 6.0’, which arrived earlier this month.

The forthcoming tour will see the group accompanied by Mini Skirt and Caitlin Harnett & The Pony Boys on most dates, with Slag Queens, Dust, Ricky Albeck & The Belair Line Band, and more joining as supports. The tour will take place between October and November, with Bad//Dreems visiting Launceston, Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Brisbane.

Bad//Dreems – ‘Mansfield 6.0’

Earlier this month, Bad//Dreems released new single ‘Mansfield 6.0’. Their first single since ‘Desert Television’ in 2020, the track serves as a taster of the group’s forthcoming fourth album, which is scheduled to arrive in 2023.

A staple of their live sets for some time, Bad//Dreems explained that ‘Mansfield 6.0’ emerged out of the strange times that Australians have found themselves living through in recent years. “At 9:15 a.m. AEST on the 22nd of September 2021, an earthquake measuring 6.0 was recorded in the town of Mansfield, Victoria and felt in Melbourne and around the state,” the group explained as part of a statement.

“At the same time, a mob of 2000 men wearing hi-visibility workwear and shouting anti-vaccination slogans marched through the streets of Melbourne, vandalising cars and clashing with police,” they added. “They gathered on the West Gate Bridge, where they sang and drank. This song was written at that strange time.”

The Weeknd has cancelled his After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour of Australia

Update 23/04/2024 :  The Weeknd  has cancelled the Australian and New Zealand leg of his After Hours Til Dawn  tour.

In an email sent out to ticketholders from Ticketek , full refunds will be made to everyone while the company continues to "work through the rescheduling process with the artist".

Although the tour is still very up in the air, Ticketek encouraged fans to sing up to a waitlist to get access to a priority pre-sale when tickets go  back  on sale. It's not clear when - or if - this will happen.

Update 3/11/2023  - The Weeknd has postponed the Australia and New Zealand leg of his After Hours Til Dawn tour due to "unforeseen circumstances".

In a statement released on Friday afternoon (Nov 3), The Weeknd shared that the tour will be rescheduled for 2024, with confirmed dates to come.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour," he said. 

"New dates will be announced next year and current tickets will be valid for the new shows. Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can't wait to be there with you!"

A spokesperson from the tour's promoter Live Nation said the company is "focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule". 

The After Hours Til Dawn tour was set to kick off in Brisbane on November 20, and take in several dates down the east coast.

Those with tickets will be contacted with the new dates when they're locked in, and if you can't make it you can get a refund from where you bought your tickets.

Original story:  It's been a long six years but The Weeknd is finally coming back down under for some frankly monstrous shows at the tail end of the year.

If you've been following along on TikTok and Instagram, you'll have seen the enormous productions Abel Tesfaye has been putting on for his After Hours Til Dawn stadium world tour. It's a real spectacle, and now that energy is coming down under for a run of big performances in November and December.

The stadium run has been totally sold out to date, breaking records all over the place and with 1.6million fans filling huge venues right across Europe. It's got everything – flames, a massive catwalk stage, a huge moon, a big chrome femme figure, an MF Doom -inspired mask. The visuals are truly next level.

And the crowd work, well, that really speaks for itself.

The Weeknd is taking over multiple stadiums in Australia with this mammoth tour. He'll be smashing into Meanjin/Brisbane on November 20 before heading down to Gadigal Land/Sydney on November 24 and then rounding it out in Naarm/Melbourne on December 1.

Update:  Huge news for everyone who's desperate to get to these stadium shows, The Weeknd has locked in extra dates in all three cities!

Update 11/09/2023:  In exciting news for Naarm fans, The Weeknd has locked in a fourth show at Marvel Stadium, bumping out his huge Aussie run to nine dates.

He'll now be sticking around for an extra appearance on Tuesday 5 December, heating things up at the start of summer.

Tickets for the new show are on sale from 2pm local time on Wednesday 13 September, and you can find out more over on the tour website . Get your group chat sorted right now because these tickets are going to go fast.

Westlife add Kuala Lumpur date to 2023 ‘The Wild Dreams’ tour

The announcement follows the reveal of a Singapore tour date earlier this week

Westlife have announced a Malaysia stop on their ‘The Wild Dreams’ tour set to take place in early 2023.

The veteran boyband will perform at Malaysia’s Axiata Arena this February 22 and 23, having last performed in the country in 2019 before the height of the pandemic. Tickets will be available via Excitix this October 11 starting at MYR294, all the way up to MYR884.

A physical ticket pre-sale will be held on October 10 at the Main Atrium of Lalaport BBCC mall in Kuala Lumpur starting at 11am local time.

The announcement of a Kuala Lumpur tour date follows the reveal of a Singapore tour date in a Instagram post on October 3. Set to be held on February 16 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, tickets go on sale today (October 6) at 12pm local time via Ticketmaster and at all Singpost outlets. Tickets prices start at SGD128.

The Irish pop group previously  announced tour dates in Indonesia and the Philippines as part of their ‘The Wild Dreams’ tour. The Indonesia concert is scheduled to take place on February 11, 2023 at the Stadion Madya, Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta and has already sold out, leading Westlife to add three more tour dates in the country this year that have already taken place.

The group’s Philippines tour date will see them perform at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila on February 20 and 21. Tickets to the February 21 date are still available via ticketnet.com.ph starting at PHP1,575.

Westlife’s 12th studio album ‘Wildest Dreams’ was released in November last year and includes hit tracks ‘Alone Together’, ‘My Hero’ and ‘Starlight’.
