Chester's superclub which boasts a refurb of £2.6million, is probably among the swishest of the few clubs in chester. When they first opened there was alot of trouble with doorman and the issue of the original dresscode, one person i knew got turned down 4 times over one week, in different outfits. But after a couple of months of business things seem to have ironed out, and student night there is on wednesdays i think.

Photo of Qype User (Krazyl…)

To be honest, I really dont know what the hype is. Its a bar. thats it. its overpriced and has a big ego. The bars arent big enough to accomodate the customers and the staff behind the bar dont look like they want to be there. Dont order champagne, whatever the occasion, its overpriced cheap bubbly that could cut glass its that tart and sharp. I really wasnt impressed and was quite bored by it. it has no atmosphere and no soul. Maybe cruise needs to find its feet more before i can say that this is a club i would want to visit again. On the plus side, the bouncers were really nice and polite, not the usual gorillas you usually find on club doors. also, there is a really useful taxi service. there are screens inside that update you as to when your taxi is due. this saves the usual freezing queuing and battling for cabs at the end of the night

Photo of Qype User (lianx…)

Good night out. Lots of theme nights and lots of celebs! Always fun, and they have knocked the drink prices down so its cheaper than it used to be. Gets very busy but different rooms so you can choose what music you want to dance away too. Would recommend it.

Photo of Qype User (eponli…)

Cruise is new on the Chester night scene - which has been crying out for a new club for a very long time. This place is fairly impressive in size - with three floors playing a very diverse mix of songs including RnB, pop, 80's and general chill out music. Prices are quite high - and are in keeping with the overall 'class' of the place. I think it's still finding its feet somewhat as there are times when people don't seem quite sure what they should be doing - the dance floor for example doesn't really get going until very late in the night. The 80's floor upstairs is excellent with a cool dance floor which lights up - bouncers are very strict about not letting you take drinks on here, which I suppose is probably a good thing but can be a little annoying at times. Entrance fee is quite expensive - so suggest getting there before 10pm when it's around £7 which is not so bad. Overall a great addition to Chester's night clubs - and will certainly continue to be popular.

Photo of Qype User (hodgy1…)

I think cruise is massively over-rated to be honest. The best night is a Monday as its not a rip-off and its got below an average atmosphere most nights. I get promotion emails and messages on facebook telling me how the events the week before were a massive hit and how the place was heaving, which are always lies! Its never as busy as it makes out. It only looks busy because the main two rooms arnt that big. The bouncers, similar to the bouncers in Rosies. I understand them not wanting to let in scruffy people but I've been dressed smartly: shoes, pants, shirt, tie and cardigan and told i'm dressed too casually, WHAT? They just pick and choose whether they like the look of you and if your worthy of entering. Another mate was told he wasnt right for the night?? whats that all about?? Inside is very nice and sophisticated, miles better than the other places to go but it has no atmosphere and you always feel as if the doormen are watching over you to pounce the moment you do something they deem unnacceptable. I went last week and saw a guy around 35years old kicked out for being dropping his drink accidently. Cruise needs to become slightly more lax on the door policy to get the extra people in there needed to make the place have a good atmosphere. Over 21's on a weekend doesn't help the club much either, not everybody 18-21 is a student and can go out during the week.

Photo of Qype User (MSSmit…)

No night in Chester is complete without Cruisin' lol

Photo of Qype User (graham…)

Cruise has added some good competition to the chester night life as all of a sudden the bouncers at rosie's welcome you in like long lost friends, as oppossed to 'not tonight lads' or 'where you from' or 'not in that shirt' in his best ysl voice. good central location as its the old post office building and the various little booths can give you a bit of privacy whilst still being part of the night.

Photo of Qype User (Joe_9…)

My brother and a friend have just been refused entry on the grounds that 3 weeks ago they were not allowed in, and then went on to kick the door of The Marlborough Arms. Supposedly a female member of staff then came running out, screaming for help. Seems strange that this 'happened' as my brother hasn't been in cruise for about two months, and the week of the accusation (3 weeks ago) he was at home all week prior to a trip to Greece. For what is supposedly Chester's premiere club, I understand arrogance from a club that knows it'll make money no matter what. But turning down genuine custom is hardly the way to increase market share. Not impressed. This seems much the same to the usual choice doorman seem to take when a group of males queue up. You either don't get in at all, or some do and some don't. Being part of Chesternights.com I have shared this review their, and also passed it on to my colleague so hopefully Nick will be made aware.

Photo of Qype User (h4_han…)

This is the latest night club in Chester. It boasts 4 bars and two clubs, which means it really suits most people. It has really good levels of security and so feels very safe. The drinks are what you would expect of a night club in Chester, quite expensive but worth it! The music is good and the dance floors are massive. A word of warning however, the entry requirements are strict, over 21s only, no fancy dress on Fridays and Saturdays and the dress code is smart and stylish! Brilliant night though, the place to be in Chester!

Photo of Qype User (emmaro…)

Not a bad club, but way overpriced!!! Sometimes it is too big with not enough people to fill so no atmosphere!

went to chester as a group of females for my hen party (8 of us) age ranges of us 23 - 67 years old . we were all in abba fancy dress and had emailed to ask for guest entry to make sure there wouldnt be any probs with entry. i must say from the door staff on first arrival - reception staff, bar staff inside everyone was so polite , helpful and very eay to talk to . i would like thank u all , we had a brilliant night upstairs in the top room with music for all our age range the older ones with us had never been in a club before and they loved it, all saying what a brilliant night they had and how welcoming everyone was.. thank u for memories that will last a life tiime and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a great night out

i have reviewed for this club before after my 1st visit well I'm a regular visitor in cruise at the weekends now, fantastic service even when pumping u don't have to wait ages to get served Jamie and the rest of barstaff do a mint job very fast and efficient, wish i was a student as Mondays now is a quid to get in and a quid for selected drinks ( at 48 i wonder if i can pass as mature student ) lol

Came here as part of a hen party. We had booked two booths (which come with a large amount of spirits of your choice). Loved having the booth - plenty of space to sit when not drinking. Staff were prompt with bringing us the spirits we'd ordered, took a little while longer for the mixers, but appreciate that it was a busy night, particularly with it being a Races weekend. Bouncers on the door were very friendly too!

Came here for a night and loved every minute of it, really cheap drinks and a great atmosphere all around, thought it was great fun and would deffo come back

£8.00 to get in and you tried to charge my friend twice.... The drinks are a little pricey not my kind of club, not indie as it states. I would have stayed longer had the music been better. The live band was ok like but didnt play requests. The door staff very friendly and attentive, they ordered me a taxi thank you for that. Would I return? if I was in Chester I would probably try your place again.

I went to Cruise for a mate's stag - had an excellent night. I've been on a couple of nights out in Chester and this was definitely the best; great music, good value drinks. Was a great night until I lost my phone... I wasn't staying in Chester and got a train from Wrexham the next day. Not only did the guys at Cruise find my phone - they also ran it down to the train station and met me when I changed on to a train for London. First class service - going the extra mile, literally to the train station. Thanks very much!!

5 Best Clubs in Chester - Havana Chester

1. Havana Chester

Fiesta Havana is a nightclub and late bar hybrid, giving you the best of both worlds under one low, rounded roof. Head down the stairs into the tunnel-like venue with vaulted brick ceilings and a Latin-style vibe.

During the day, Havana Chester serves both food and drinks, but what makes this one of the best clubs in Chester is the extensive cocktail menu and dancefloor hidden inside. They have a revolving door of DJ’s to perform, speciality aged rum and heaps of tequila to keep you dancing until dawn.

5 Best Clubs in Chester - Rosies Popworld

2. Rosies - Popworld

More often than not, you’ll find a younger crowd in Rosie’s, one of the most popular clubs in Chester since it opened it’s doors. Hidden between the rows, Rosie’s nightclub opens up into three completely unique floors to cater for all.

The infamous Popworld is on the ground floor for all your cheesy tunes and throwback music paired with a multi-coloured dancefloor. Move up through the building for dance music, R&B and even a roof terrace for some fresh air. This venue is somewhere you can spend an entire night without evening realising it!

5 Best Clubs in Chester - Liquor & Co

3. Liquor & Co

Sleek and sophisticated, Red Door has made a name for itself as one of the best bar/club hybrids as it’s open until late on the weekends. Although it’s small, this venue is mighty when it comes to music and cocktails.

They have a rotating cocktail of the month and live DJ sets to keep you dancing on their dedicated dancefloor. On top of that, there’s a photobooth inside and the bartenders behind the bar really know their stuff. This is the perfect Chester nightlife hotspot if you appreciate the finer things in life.

📌 31 Watergate St » | Website »

5 Best Clubs in Chester - The Church

4. The Church

The Church Chester is one of the larger venues when it comes to nightclubs in Chester and includes a dancefloor, booths, seating for food, outdoor terrace and an original Church organ.

All of this mixed together makes for a unique and memorable night out if you’re visiting this little city. You can often find live bands playing on the weekends and they serve fantastic cocktails from the huge bar in the middle of the room. It’s a great place to start the night with a cocktail or end the night with a round of tequila shots!

📌 Newgate St » | Website »

5 Best Clubs in Chester - The Guild

5. The Guild

After the Grade II listed building The Guildhall was made redundant, a Chester-based couple had a light-bulb moment and turned the space into a bar! This luxurious bar/nightclub has kept its original stained-glass windows and stone arches merged together with modern décor and cosy booths.

As for Chester nightclubs, The Guild is open until late and a fab choice for larger groups as the tall ceilings and spacious dancefloor means there’s room for everyone to party.

Fresh twist over future of Chester city centre nightclub Cruise

The company running the temporarily closed nightspot entered administration last year

A premises licence application has been lodged for Chester city centre nightclub Cruise - suggesting the city centre venue is gearing up to reopen.

Earlier this year, we reported that the well-known nightspot on St John Street had entered liquidation. Cruise had also announced its temporary closure, citing 'maintenance' reasons on their social media account.

The company running the club - Preston-based Odysian (Chester) Ltd - are currently listed on the Companies House website as being in liquidation. A resolution was passed in November last year 'that the company be wound up voluntarily' with FRP Advisory Trading Limited appointed administrators.

A separate 'active' company - Odysian (Holdings) Ltd - has now submitted a premises licence application for the nightclub. The new prospective licensee is applying for opening hours of 10pm until 3.30am, with alcohol served until 3am.

Public consultation over the proposal will run until April 11. No further updates since the temporary closure announcement have been provided by Cruise.

Cruise opened back in 2008 . Back then, Cheshire Live reported that operations manager Nick Harding and business partner Brendan McLoughlin, founders of Odysian Ltd, had spent £2.6m fitting out Chester’s biggest venue based on their conviction that Chester lacked a quality venue for the 21-45 age group, open until the early hours.

Construction Begins on Royal Caribbean’s Royal Beach Club

  • April 23, 2024

Beach Club Groundbreaking

Royal Caribbean International announced the start of the construction on the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, a 17-acre beach experience on Paradise Island in Nassau, The Bahamas, according to a statement .

Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty and Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley were joined by The Bahamas’ Prime Minister Philip Davis and Deputy Prime Minister I. Chester Cooper to commemorate the special occasion.

The first of the Royal Beach Club Collection, set to open in 2025, will highlight the island nation of The Bahamas, from the location to the Bahamian food, culture and staff, to a unique public-private partnership in which Bahamians will own up to 49 percent equity.

“Marking more than the beginning of the construction process, today’s groundbreaking event symbolizes partnership, momentum and continued economic development for so many Bahamian entrepreneurs and the entire community,” said Liberty. “We are grateful to our partners for their support, especially the Bahamian government, who stand with us here today in celebration of what is to come.”

Bayley added: “As we break ground on Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, together with the government and the people of The Bahamas, we are celebrating what partnership and innovation can achieve. This will be yet one more reason, in Nassau’s bright future, to experience a destination we have visited since the very beginning of Royal Caribbean more than 50 years ago.

“The beauty and charm of the island are why we chose to debut the Royal Beach Club Collection in Nassau, and with the collaboration and support of local entrepreneurs and the wider community, we know that what we create will far exceed everything we imagined.”

The first Royal Beach Club Paradise Island will feature architecture crafted by a local Bahamian architectural firm: three swimming pools; swim-up bars and private cabanas and more. The cruise line added that more details will be revealed in the coming months.

“With the signing of this Heads of Agreement for the development of Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, we embark on this project to further enhance the vitality of our tourism product. Signing today’s agreement, we add another world-class experience to our tourism offerings. And even more importantly, we take a bold step toward greater Bahamian empowerment in the tourism industry,” said PM Davis.

RCI-Royal Caribbean starts construction of Royal Beach Club Paradise Island (Nassau Bahamas)

CruiseMapper logo

RCI-Royal Caribbean International and The Bahamas inaugurated a new venture on April 22 as construction commenced on Royal Beach Club Paradise Island , the 17-acre beach destination on Paradise Island in Nassau, The Bahamas .

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on-site, attended by Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley, along with The Bahamas’ Prime Minister Philip Davis and Deputy Prime Minister I. Chester Cooper, marking a significant milestone.

The first installment of the Royal Beach Club Collection is set to materialize in the forthcoming months, slated for unveiling in 2025, with The Bahamas serving as its central inspiration. From the venue – situated on one of the island’s most picturesque beaches – to the incorporation of Bahamian cuisine, culture, and workforce, including a unique public-private partnership enabling Bahamian ownership of up to 49% equity, the new beach club amalgamates the allure and ethos of The Bahamas with distinctive Royal Caribbean characteristics across its ambiance, service, and architecture.

Guests will be greeted with an immersive beach experience at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, featuring authentic Bahamian architectural designs crafted by a local Bahamian firm, against the backdrop of The Bahamas’ iconic turquoise waters and pristine sandy shores. While further details are forthcoming, highlights include three lavish pools with swim-up bars, exclusive cabana areas, four island-inspired eateries offering local delicacies, and interactive experiences showcasing local artisans and live entertainment.

Local enterprises and entrepreneurs will play integral roles in both the construction and operation of the beach club, fostering job creation in the immediate and long-term. To date, Bahamians have been actively involved in conceptualizing authentic culinary offerings, entertainment, recreational activities, and design concepts reflective of the genuine Bahamian essence and aesthetic.

Upon completion, Royal Beach Club Paradise Island is anticipated to accommodate an average of 2,000 guests. Access to the beach club will be facilitated through ferry transportation from the Nassau Cruise Port, with return journeys disembarking near historic downtown Nassau, in close proximity to the renowned Straw Market.

Thomas Chester Johnson OBITUARY

Thomas Chester Johnson was born on March 20, 1943 to Elsie (Nozling) and Roy Johnson in Pittsburgh, PA., the second of two boys, following older brother Jim.Tom was blessed with a loving and happy family which provided a strong foundation for the rest of his life.As a youth, Tom enjoyed playing whichever sport was in season. He especially excelled at basketball and baseball.Tom’s college days were spent at Michigan State and he remained a lifelong MSU fan, taking special joy in every Sparty victory, especially over the rival Michigan Wolverines! Post under graduate, Tom received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Oregon State University.Like many in his generation, Tom proudly served in the United States Army, arriving in Vietnam the very day that the Tet Offensive commenced. He was in the Signal Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Second Lieutenant. After Vietnam, Tom received a great offer and joined Ford MotorCompany in San Jose to work as a dealer liaison in Northern California. He continued to play basketball and organized many teams for local leagues while recruiting his housemates and friends to join in thefun. Tom always had a remarkable ability to gather people and include everyone both from work and play for meals, barbecues and various sports outings.Tom married Frosty (Jill) Franich in June 1981. He proudly worked 10 years with Ford Motor Company in the San Jose area then upon achieving the 10 year mark with Ford, they subsequently moved to Watsonville, California, where Tom joined Frosty’s father, Marty, and brother, Rocky, in management of the Marty Franich Ford, Lincoln-Mercury, and Chrysler-Jeep dealerships. All along Tom acquired many friends like the baseball trading cards from his youth -Tom collected well! He served as the president of the Rotary Club in Freedom, California, and encouraged community participation in many philanthropic areas.Just as he had taken to team sports as a youth, as he grew older, Tom became an avid and talented golfer. He enjoyed many golf rounds both at the Salinas Country Club (now Crazy Horse) in Salinas, California, and along the Kona Coast, especially Big Island Country Club now known as Makani. His brothers-in-law, nephews and friends all have a colorful collection of golf shirts as happy reminders of days together on the fairways.Starting when he was employed by Ford, for decades, Tom organized the annual Rub of the Green golf tournament in Reno where dozens of friends, with every level of skill, gathered from up and down the West coast and Hawaii for golf competition and comradery.Tom was the glue that made this event a high point on many family and friends’ calendars over the years. In 1999, Frosty and Tom made the leap to paradise, moving from Watsonville to their new home on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Recently they acquired a condominium on Oahu so Tom couldcatch some sports and visit favorite Waikiki restaurants.Tom and Frosty were world travelers; these trips included many Ford-sponsored trips to bucket list destinations throughout Europe and even Russia.Tom was a wonderful friend to many. His big heart needed attention in 2023 but he was able to recover and headed for a dream cruise from Florida to California, traversing through the Panama Canal. He returned home to Kona on February 10th and sadly died shortly thereafter. At his request, Tom will be buried at the Veteran Cemetery in Kona, Hawaii. Tom is survived by hisloving wife Frosty Franich Johnson, numerous Franich in-laws, nephews and nieces, and myriad friends in California and Hawaii. The family plans Tom’s life celebration in the coming months. Please remember Tom with a happy round of golf and/or a donation to a ‘favorite’ philanthropy.

Royal Caribbean and the government of the Bahamas broke ground Monday on the joint venture to develop a strip of land in the cruise port of Nassau called Paradise Island.

The government in 2023 gave the OK for the cruise line to develop a 17-acre portion into what will be called Royal Beach Club Paradise Island when it opens in 2025. Cruise line executives and government officials, including Prime Minister Philip Davis, grabbed shovels along the white sandy beaches with turquoise water in the background.

“With the signing of the deal [for] Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, we embark on this project to further enhance the vitality of our tourism product,” Davis said. “Signing today’s agreement, we add another world-class experience to our tourism offerings. And even more importantly, we take a bold step toward greater Bahamian empowerment in the tourism industry.”

The site is on the western edge of the strip of land that runs alongside the waterway through which ships brought nearly 4.5 million passengers in 2023, making Nassau the world’s busiest cruise port of call.

Royal Caribbean’s site expects about 2,000 visitors a day. They will be ferried over from the port but then return by land going through downtown Nassau.

It’s the first site for the smaller-sized beach club private destination Royal Caribbean plans to build out as opposed to its private island and resort destinations such as Perfect Day at Coco Cay in the Bahamas and Labadee on Haiti’s northern coast.

The Paradise Island spot will play up Bahamian culture alongside traditional offerings such as the beach, cabanas, four food and drink venues and three pools with swim-up bars. The site is being designed by a Bahamian architectural firm, and will give space for local artisan work for sale and live local music.

The project is a public-private partnership under which Bahamians are invited to own up to 49% of it. The plan is for locals to manage the experiences offered at the resort.

The cruise line will own 13 acres of the property while 4 acres go to Crown Land, which is a territorial area owned by the state. The cruise line will also pay a new tourism levy in exchange for the development.

“Marking more than the beginning of the construction process, today’s groundbreaking event symbolizes partnership, momentum and continued economic development for so many Bahamian entrepreneurs and the entire community,” said Jason Liberty, the cruise line parent company Royal Caribbean Group’s President and CEO. “We are grateful to our partners for their support, especially the Bahamian government, who stand with us here today in celebration of what is to come.”

The additional attraction to the port augments a $300 million overhaul of the Nassau Cruise Port that had its grand opening last year.

Already the port has expanded its capacity to six ships, including the ability to dock three of the massive Oasis-class ships from Royal Caribbean at once.

The revamp includes a new terminal building, Junkanoo museum, 3,500-person amphitheater, living coral exhibit plus more entertainment, food, beverage and retail space. Once complete, the port’s capacity will jump to more than 33,000 passengers per day. It had been around 20,000 a day.
