Paris, a city full of hidden treasures

Our Paris Bike Tour: the Secrets is a truly local experience. It was designed by our founders who have lived in and explored Paris for more than 30 years. This tour is for anyone who wants to get to know Paris' off-the-beaten-path charms and see what makes it so captivating to us locals.

On this tour we’ll take you away from all of the big monuments and show you the charming Latin Quarter and the quaint Le Marais neighborhoods. On your Blue Bike™ you'll cycle on back streets and discover hidden secrets, ancient ruins, and the oldest café in the world, all the while learning funny and eccentric historical details about the real Paris and its population.

A tour like this can only be given by a true local who knows and loves their city. So let one of our guides show you around and help you to see the unknown ways in which Paris really shines!

the Pantheon

Paris secrets and street Art

The Paris Bike Tour: the Secrets stands out from our other bike tours as it dives deeper into what makes Paris so unique aside from its monuments and museums. This tour takes place entirely on back streets so you’ll see a more authentic and charming side of Paris, one that most tourists only dream about finding.

You’ll pop into a 400 year old building and explore the book lined walls of the Shakespeare and Co. bookshop. On your Blue Bike™ you’ll cycle past the oldest tree in Paris and into the alleys of the Latin Quarter you’ll learn about the Street Art movement in Paris. That way you’ll recognize some of Paris’ most celebrated street art such as the Space Invaders and the many faces of Gregos which pop out from our city’s walls.

Oldest Café in the world and the Pantheon

Wandering into a covered passageway you’ll look through a window and see pastry chefs creating delicacies. Then you’ll realize you’re standing in front of the oldest café in the world, a place where a revolution was planned and where Benjamin Franklin penned some of the Constitution of the United States.

Cycling through the market street of Rue de Buci you’ll smell the fresh baked goods and see thousands of fresh fruits and flowers all around you. You might notice a shop that has been making tiny lead soldiers since the 1700’s and wonder how they can still be there after 250 years. That’s when you’ll remember you’re in Paris and this place is magic.

You’ll have a chance to learn about and explore inside the fascinating church that Dan Brown used in his “Da Vinci Code” where you’ll find the Rose Line for yourself. Leaving the church behind you’ll go up an alley and read a backwards poem on the wall about a drunken boat then cycle alongside the beautiful Luxembourg garden. You’ll pause at the Pantheon, the final resting place of the most beloved “Great men and women of France” such as Victor Hugo and learn of their lives and legacies.

Roman Arena

Roman Arena and Le Marais

Taking a break on rue Mouffetard you’ll admire the little crêpe shops, awesome french bakeries, and local café ambiance that is well off the beaten tourist trail. You’ll be able to choose whatever pleases you the most for your lunch and have 30 minutes to enjoy it.

Once finished with the break the adventure continues as the guide leads you to the center of our 2,000 year old Roman Arena and then across the Seine river into the historically Jewish neighborhood of Le Marais.

You’ll admire the lovely pedestrian street of Rue des Rosiers with all of it’s local boutiques and kosher restaurants then head into the most beautiful square in Paris, the Place des Vosges where the red brick and green trees will show a different side of Paris.

This tour is an excellent tour in and of itself but also a wonderful complement to our Best of Paris Bike Tour which will already have introduced you to the main monuments of Paris and some of the most important historical facts. So, please, don’t try to choose between them. We’ll give you a discount if you book them together (see Special Offers).

You participate in the entire tour from: being on time at the meeting point until the “goodbyes” at the very end of the tour. You can’t leave a tour half-way and ask for your money back. At the end of the tour you tell your guide, in person, that you were not satisfied with the tour you took. You provide your tour guide with the reasons you were not satisfied with the tour itself.

III - Payment Policy

A valid credit card is required to secure your booking. All reservations must be prepaid online prior to the tour. We accept Visa, Mastercard. None of your personal credit card or billing information is stored by BFT.

IV - Privacy Policy

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Your personal informations will never be disclosed to any third parties.

V - Child Policy

All reservations made for children under the age of 18 years old must be made by an adult and we must be informed at the time of booking exactly how many children are in your party and their ages. This is vital information as it allows our guide to prepare the proper child sized equipments for the bike tours and the booster seats for all day trips/excursions that use one of our vans. All reservations made for a minor under the age of 18 years old must also include the reservation for an adult who will be 100% solely responsible for the safety and well being of the child while on the tour. Every child, under the age of 12 years old, partaking in a bicycle tour will be required to wear a helmet and a reflective vest as per French Law. The adult who accompanies the child agrees to the responsibility of choosing a properly sized helmet, adjusting the helmet, and keeping the helmet on the head of the child during the whole tour. Blue Fox Travel has helmets in multiple sizes for you to choose from at no cost. Don't forget: Children who will be riding in a baby/child seat, on a tandem attachment bike, or in a booster seat in one of our vans absolutely MUST have their seat reserved beforehand. We NEED to know exactly what your child will need before they show up. Please make it clear in the “Special Requirements” section of our booking form.

VI- Child Bike Policy

Children who will be riding on their own may be subject to a very short test run before the tour starts in which they will be expected to demonstrate: that they are well suited for their bike’s size and settings, that they know how to brake properly and that they are, in general, good cyclists who can be trusted to follow their tour guide in a safe manner. We own 20” and 24” kids bikes (size of the wheel). Adult bikes are 26”. If the guide, or manager, finds that the child is not, for any reason, a good enough cyclist then the guide, or manager, has the right to refuse to let the child follow the tour on a personal bike. This means they will either be asked to ride on one of our ‘tandem attachments’ which is attached to the back of a parents bike OR asked to ride in a child seat attached to the back of a parents bike. If the child refuses the change, then the guide or manager has the right to cancel the reservation, and not allow you and your child on the bike tour. Refunds will not be issued if your reservation is cancelled because of your child not being able to cycle and their refusal to ride attached to you. Baby seats are for kids that are between the ages of 1 and 3 years old (max weight 22 kg (48 lbs)). We also have some cool Burley™ tandem attachment bikes that are suitable for little kids who are too big for the baby seat but too small to cycle on their own (max weight 38 kg (85 lbs) - max height 137 cm (4 ft 6 in)).

VII - Damages to Blue Fox Travel Property

If you or anyone in your party damages a vehicle, a Blue Bike™, a vehicle, a child's bike, a helmet, a baby/child seat, a tandem attachment bike, any bike attachments, or a booster seat in such a way that it becomes badly disfigured, broken, or unusable, then BFT reserves the right to claim a fee of up to the cost of repair of the damaged bike/vehicle or object.

The " Latin quarter + Le marais Bike Tour is a truly local experience. It's for those who want to get to know Paris ' hidden charms and see what makes it so captivating to the locals.

Know More about this tour

The first half of the tour will be in this charming part of central Paris . One of the old Gare de l|est parts of Paris, the Latin Quarter got its name from the Latin that was spoken by all of the La Sorbonne University students back in the days when Paris had one of the first international Universities in the world. You'll love cycling on its tiny back streets and learning its vibrant history. The Shakespeare and Co. Bookstore has almost become a shrine to the written word. It's in a medieval building with wooden beams and plaster walls. It has shelves overflowing with the literature of all ages and sorts. You'll learn its fascinating history and then have free time to explore inside it and maybe meet some of the the authors who actually sleep in the store! The Procope is the oldest Café in Paris! The Procope was founded in 1686 and has seen many of the most famous people in history eat there. Among them were Benjamin Franklin, Voltaire, Napoléon Bonaparte, and Victor Hugo. You'll learn a few of the fun stories that have happened here and be able to take souvenir photos too! Saint Sulpice is, almost, the biggest church in Paris! A few more centimeters tall and it would be bigger than Notre Dame Cathedral. This Church has definitely seen an amazing history. Learn about its sorted past, its mismatched towers, and why it inspired Dan Brown to include it in his book: The DaVinci Code. Then go inside to see its majesty for yourself. Although a huge building the Pantheon remains a hidden gem as very few foreign travelers realize just how amazing it is. It is the final resting place for the noblest French people in History. You'll learn about scientists: Pierre and Marie Curie, Authors: Alexandre Dumas and Victor Hugo, as well as Dancer/Activist: Josephine Baker. Taking a break on rue Mouffetard you’ll admire the local café ambiance that is well off the beaten tourist trail. You’ll be given a break here, for your lunch, and have 30 minutes to enjoy it at your own cost. This is where locals go to get the best savory crepes in Paris, but you can eat at an adorable little French bakery or café if you prefer! The Arenes de Lutece is an ancient Roman arena. Think about the Roman Colosseum but inside of Paris! You didn't know that we had a Roman arena in Paris? Well, we do and we keep it pretty well hidden too. You'll cycle into the arena itself and learn about the fascinating history that Rome played in shaping Paris as well what sort of bloody games the arena hosted. Le Marais was a swamp that was built up and beautified over the centuries by the local Parisian Jewish community. Today it is known for its trendy shops and charming atmosphere especially on Sundays as it is the only neighborhood to have businesses open. In France, shops are required to stay closed for at least 1 day a week, in Le Marais they chose Saturday. This wall is engraved with the names of over 3,900 non-Jewish French people who risked, and sometimes lost, their lives in an effort to save French Jewish people from the atrocities that they faced during WWII. It is a heartwrenching stop but a necessary one as this tour is a cultural tour and in Le Marais the culture has always been mostly Jewish. Admire the lovely pedestrian street of Rue des Rosiers as you walk your bike along it peeking inside of its shops and smelling the amazing aromas coming from its restaurants. With all of its tiny boutique stores and highly rated kosher restaurants, it has become the heart of the Jewish neighborhood in Le Marais. See one of the most beautiful, and certainly the most unique, public squares in Paris, the Place des Vosges. With its red brick buildings built back in the 1500s, this square is a perfect mix of local and high society. The brick buildings house elite art shops and a fancy hotel while the grassy center is where the everyday locals come to picnic and let their kids splash in the fountains. Philippe August was the king of France back in the 1100's. He built a massive stone wall around the city of Paris to defend it from attack. At that time the king in England was Richard the Lion Heart. Learn about their odd relationship and why Philippe built the wall. We'll stop at the largest and best-preserved part of the wall today and you will be impressed. See the Hotel de Sens this fortress-looking mansion is tucked away from the tourist trail and comes complete with turrets and gargoyles. You'll learn why it was built and the funny story about how it got a cannonball stuck in its facade!

Traveler Reviews

It’s totally worthy. The guide is professional and caring. We discovered places that normally we as tourists not know to visit. And we all loved it!!

Well organised, informative, heard about and saw places we would never have seen otherwise. Our guide, Irving was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. He guided safely and efficiently. Easy riding.

We had an amazing tour from start to finish, our guide Johnathan was very friendly and informative. The tour really made our trip spacial. Would recommend to anyone.

We scheduled our Uber driver the evening prior so he would be at our hotel well in advance of our tour. While we were at breakfast, he texted us that he was outside early and parked. He said to take our time. We came out at the scheduled time and he was not there. He did not respond to messages. We tried to rebook 3 more Ubers. We also checked the Metro. Both had significant delays. I messaged the tour operator as soon as I could. She said she could only offer a different tour (highlights) in the afternoon but we already had train tickets to London. So we lost our money (4 tickets -2 adults & 2 kids). I feel that she could have had some empathy and refunded at least partial price. Our experience with Uber in Paris only (we have had zero problems in other major metro areas in Europe & the states for the last 12 years!) and Viator customer service (works with TripAdvisor) has been awful. We’re very disappointed and will never book through TripAdvisor again.

The tour was very interesting! Isis, our guide, was super nice and had lots of interesting facts to share with us as a true local :). The tour started punctually and it was easy to spot our guide in the meeting point, bikes functioned perfectly and the time in each spot was enough to appreciate them.

This tour was amazing. Small, personalized, extremely interesting and well guided. Navigating as a group was fairly easy and the guide was very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!

Arnaud was super kind, funny and really went With the flow of the group. He is a great storyteller and we had the best time. He took care of us and made sure we were all okay throughout the tour. Thank you!

Fantastic 4 hour bike ride round the backstreets of Paris. Our guide, Tibaud (spelling?!) was brilliantly informative at each of our stops and made cycling round Paris v easy! Small group and plenty of time to enjoy the sights. Would highly recommend!

Really enjoyed this tour! The guide gave great background info about the sites and Paris. It was also a good way to switch up the typical tourist agenda.

Our guide Isis was so charming and knowledgeable, and the tour was worth every penny. So fun biking around and learning so much.

Table of Contents

  • Explore the hidden hot spots with a Paris bike tour
  • The Hidden Paris Bike Tour is 100% different from our other bike tours in Paris . None of the routes or stops are the same.

The Hidden Paris Bike Tour stands out from our other bicycle tours as it dives deeper into what, apart from its landmarks and museums, makes Paris unique. This tour takes place completely on back roads so that you will see a more genuine and charming side of Paris , one that most visitors just dream of finding.

Paris Hidden Secrets Small-Group Bike Tour

You will pop into a 400-year-old building and discover the Shakespeare and Co. bookshop’s book-lined walls. You will cycle past the oldest tree in Paris on your Blue BikeTM and learn about the Street Art movement in Paris in the Latin Quarter alleys.

Thus you will acknowledge some of the most famous road art in Paris , such as the Space Invaders and the many faces of Gregos that emerge from the walls of our city.

You’ll look through a window and see pastry chefs producing delicacies wandering through a covered corridor. You’ll then realize that you’re standing in front of the world’s oldest café, a place where a revolution was planned and where Benjamin Franklin wrote some of America’s Constitution.

Cycling along Rue de Buci’s market road will smell the new baked goods and see thousands of new fruits and flowers all around you. You may notice a store that has been producing small lead troops since the 1700s and wonder how after 250 years they can still be there. That’s when you’re going to remember you’re in Paris and it’s magic here.

Within the intriguing church that Dan Brown used in his Da Vinci Code, you will have an opportunity to learn about and explore. Leaving the church behind you will go up a street and read a poem about a drunken boat on the wall backward, then cycle alongside the beautiful Luxembourg Garden . At the Pantheon, the last resting location of France’s most beloved men and females, including Victor Hugo, you will pause.

Take a break in rue Mouffetard and explore the little creperies, amazing French bakeries, and local atmosphere discovered off the beaten path. For your dinner, you will be able to choose anything you like most and have 30 minutes to enjoy it.

Once the break is over, the adventure remains as the guide takes you to the middle of the 2,000-year-old Roman Arena, then across the Seine into Le Marais’ historic Jewish neighborhood.

You’ll admire Rue des Rosiers’ lovely pedestrian road with all its local boutiques and kosher restaurants, then head to the most beautiful square in Paris: Place des Vosges, where red bricks and green trees show a distinct side of Paris.
