When Soft Cell played a spectacular, sold-out show before 20,000 fans at The O2 in September 2018, the London concert was seen by all and sundry as a grand finale. It had been billed as One Night: One Final Time, leaving devotees in no doubt that a duo who had done so much to define the sound of British electronic pop in the 1980s were saying hello to wave one last, emotional goodbye.

Marc Almond has lined up a London show with Chris Braide.

Billed as An Intimate Evening,  the synth-pop pioneer will be joined by his producer and songwriting collaborator at Union Chapel on November 3, with tickets on general sale at 10am on Friday (September 1).

MARC ALMOND announces his rescheduled tour dates for October 2022

Marc Almond is delighted to announce his rescheduled tour dates for October 2022, adding extra dates in Liverpool, Buxton, York and Cambridge. Marc added, “the fans have been so understanding and patient through the endless rescheduling due to the pandemic, but now we have confirmed these dates, I can’t wait to get back on stage”.

All the original dates are the same venues, with the exception of the London Roundhouse show, which is being moved to the London Palladium. All tickets bought from the Roundhouse will be refunded. Tickets bought on Ticketmaster will be automatically transferred to the Palladium show.

Marc will be singing songs from his last top 20 solo album, ‘Chaos and a Dancing Star’, released in March 2020, plus many favourites from his extensive catalogue and his biggest hits. Marc always has surprises up his sleeve.

His last album ‘Chaos and a Dancing Star’ was released to critical acclaim just before the Pandemic and lockdown. Marc was able to perform a one-off concert in February 2020 at the Festival Hall with co-writer Producer Chris Braide, joined by guest Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Not only will this be the first outing of his recent solo album, but Soft Cell have also released a UK chart top 10 album, “Happiness Not Included”, including the much-celebrated No.1 single featuring the Pet Shop Boys “Purple Zone”.

Marc Almond’s lauded career, spanning over four decades, has seen him receive an Ivor Novello Inspiration Award in 2013, a Brit Award, as well as an OBE in the 2018 New Year Honours for his services to arts and culture.

Having sold over 35 million records worldwide, Marc Almond has enjoyed both critical and commercial success, realising decades of chart dominance. Marc has had International singles and albums chart success with Soft Cell and as a solo Artist covering four decades as well as two number-one singles. Tainted Love is one of the biggest-selling singles worldwide and has influenced and inspired a generation of artists and musicians.

Tickets for the rescheduled dates (Manchester, Glasgow, Bexhill and Birmingham) are on sale now and available from Ticketmaster .

The new dates in Liverpool, Buxton, York, and Cambridge, as well as the London date, are on-sale now. All tickets for the rescheduled shows remain valid except for the London show unless purchased on Ticketmaster .

Just a short and sweet review for Marc Almond.

The music and voice were great! Marc's voice is still holding up well and the production worked well, musically.

Marc could work on his stage presence and moves. He seemed a bit awkward at the mic.

I still totally recommend seeing Marc and the new Soft Cell. I still remember getting the 10" Bedsitter record and wearing it out. :)

In the immortal words of Alan Partridge, “ruddy hell, it’s Soft Cell!” The synthpop duo are probably open to accusations of being one hit wonders - I’m sure there’s plenty of people who’d struggle to name more than one of their songs, after ‘Tainted Love’ - but back in the early eighties, they were a real force, brewing up pop hits and constant controversy in pretty much equal measure. Their close association with the evolving drug culture in nightclubs during their heyday made them a popular target for the press, but it was something that the band were happy to play up to, with their debut record Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret - which reached number five in the UK charts - dealing with squalid lyrical themes. After reforming in the early noughties - they fizzled out, originally, in 1984 - they toured Europe in 2002 and played a short run of dates in the U.S. a year later. The shows were far from the kind of gaudy affairs you might have expected from the band in their prime, though, with a shadowy, minimal light show putting the focus squarely on the music - an extended, ten minute rendition of ‘Tainted Love’ included. Since singer Marc Almond’s near-fatal motorcycle accident in 2004, he’s performed solo, but not with Soft Cell; the band haven’t officially been dissolved again, though, so further shows remain a possibility.
