Guest reviews, this was a bucket list trip of a….

This was a bucket list trip of a lifetime for us. TCS far exceeded any and all expectations. All the personnel in the office, at each of the sites, on the tours, and in the air were professional, courteous and friendly. Everything about the trip was just over the top and we will likely go on another of their spectacular itineraries in the near future!

This Around-the-World by Private Jet…

This Around-the-World by Private Jet excursion will be my first journey with TCS World Travel. My initial encounter was with Rachael, who is extremely personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating. She was very patient in answering many questions and offering suggestions and guidance. I look forward to the next stage of planning for the exciting excursion.

Superb people making the trip wonderful

The Best of Africa is the Best

Great itinerary, great expedition team, great plane and crew, wonderful accommodations and exceptional service throughout makes for the Best of Africa.

What an amazing journey

What an amazing journey. Every step of the way was perfectly organized and stress free thanks to TCS. The trip, the jet, the staff, the hotels and restaurants were all top shelf everywhere we went. Fabulous experiences with great people. We will definitely be travelling again with TCS

This once-in-a-lifetime trip is the perfect way to spend quality time with your partner or to treat yourself to an adventure you’ll never forget. Adults of all ages take our trips, sometimes with a companion and sometimes by themselves. You will meet fellow guests with a curiosity about the world and come away with unforgettable memories and special friendships. It can also help you memorably mark a special occasion, whether it’s an anniversary, birthday, retirement, honeymoon or other milestone.

The minimum age to take our expeditions is 12, but we will consider younger guests on a case-by-case basis.

Shortly after booking, your guest services manager will email you more details about your trip. This dedicated professional will be your main point of contact. He or she will provide you additional information leading up to your departure and is available to answer any questions via phone or email.

Prior to departure, you will receive a set of amenities for your trip. These may include a wheeled bag, a backpack, packing cubes and other useful travel items.

Our trips are a unique opportunity for like-minded travelers who are interested in learning and exploring to come together. The strong friendships forged on our trips continue long after guests return home and open the door to more travel adventures.

On expeditions with 48 or more travelers, daily activities will be divided into intimate groups of 6 to 12, so you never feel like you’re part of a crowd. On all trips, we offer numerous activity options at each destination such as: guided small-group sightseeing, curated shopping, and exclusive visits to museums and landmarks. Other examples include more active options like hikes or snorkeling, as well as unforgettable moments like an intimate guided exploration of Angkor Wat and our hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti.

TCS World Travel is committed to maintaining the quality and safety of the expedition for all participants. Overall, our trips give you the freedom to set your own pace. Each destination on every itinerary offers a variety of options with different activity levels. In some, you may only be walking for short periods of time and have more downtime between excursions, while in others, you may spend the entire day touring or walking over uneven terrain. You may, of course, choose to have a day off and relax at any location.

On all our expeditions, you can expect the following:

  • Uneven ground/frequent walking up to one mile at any given time
  • Walking up the steps to the jet, as many foreign airports do not have jetways
  • Trip pace—only one to three nights in each stop with some late-night activities and early-morning departures
  • Time zone changes
  • High altitude (some expeditions)
  • Changes to your ‘normal’ routine: unique cuisine, frequent packing/unpacking

We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate participants with special needs; however, we cannot accommodate wheelchairs or walkers. If you require a slower pace, extra assistance, or the use of a cane or walking stick, arrangements can be made for private touring at each destination. Any extra cost for such arrangements will be the responsibility of the participant.

Trip Pace Definitions

These icons refer to the overall pace of the trip and not to specific activities at each destination. For example, an expedition classified as moderate or relaxed in overall pace can still offer active options such as hiking or snorkeling.

  • Active Pace: Almost every day fully scheduled, and/or longer flight durations; expedition crosses multiple time zones
  • Moderate Pace: Downtime opportunities every three or four days, and/or shorter flight durations; crosses fewer time zones
  • Relaxed Pace: Many opportunities for relaxation, and/or three-night minimum stays in most destinations

Destination Safety

Before TCS travels to any destination, we vet it for safety. We and our consultant medical advisors, Dr. Thomas Burke  and the BostonMD team, closely monitor all health situations. We monitor the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), the US Department of State, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other third-party destination experts, and are consulting with our trusted local suppliers to evaluate travel to all locations featured on our expeditions.

The beauty of private jet travel is the ease of pivoting. If we need to change an itinerary for any reason, we can use our contacts in countries worldwide to assist us with making alternate arrangements for our group. These changes could be made well in advance of arrival or even while we are in the air en-route to a given location.

On-Trip Resources

On many expeditions, a trip physician will be available to consult with you at your request about general medical health issues such as upper-respiratory infections or gastro-intestinal upsets, which are not uncommon on this type of trip. Should you become seriously ill en route, the trip physician will be able to liaise with local physicians at your request and, if necessary, your medical providers back home, to assist in determining what further care you may require.

On-Trip Activity Level

This is an active program which requires a serious health assessment. There will be walking excursions at nearly every location, and you will need to climb stairs at some of the sites, as well as when you board and disembark the aircraft. There are some airports where you will be responsible for transporting your small wheeled overnight bag. We will have some early-morning departures and late-night activities, and may travel through multiple time zones.

To help counterbalance the carbon footprint that results from flying, starting in 2023 TCS World Travel is investing directly in measurable and meaningful sustainability projects that reduce the amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere while positively impacting local communities and protecting local biodiversity.

Our luggage allowances are based on the type of aircraft on which the expedition is offered. On the custom Airbus A321, luggage typically is limited to two checked bags: the wheeled bag we mail you and one additional large suitcase of your own. On expeditions on smaller aircraft like the Fokker 70, guests are allowed the wheeled bag we mail you and one additional smaller bag due to weight restrictions. Bags will be stored in the hold of the jet during our flights, but you will be allowed to take your backpack and another small personal item, such as purse or camera bag, along with you in the cabin.

On many trips, a dedicated expedition staff member handles your luggage throughout the journey. In many destinations, our staff will transfer your luggage directly from the plane to your hotel room. In others, you may be required to walk your bags through customs before handing them over to our staff, but we take over from there. Secure vehicles accompanied by a dedicated expedition staff member are used to transfer luggage between the airport and the hotel on arrival and departure. Often times, your bag is in your room by the time you’re checked into the hotel.

We suggest you bring comfortable clothing that can be layered. One of your most important items is a pair of comfortable shoes for walking. Our guests generally dress up a little for the welcome and farewell dinners, but this is their choice and is certainly not required. Also, you will find slightly more formal dining options at many of the hotels where we stay. For this reason, you may want to bring a few nicer outfits. A more detailed packing list with specific clothing recommendations will be sent to you closer to the departure date. While you’re packing, please keep in mind that laundry services are available at most of our hotels. We also recommend you leave extra space in your suitcase to bring home souvenirs of your journey.

TCS World Travel is committed to safeguarding the security of its guests on every expedition. The company has implemented a set of security processes throughout the journey – from before guests depart to when they touch down in a destination. These processes have been fine-tuned over two decades and more than 300 private jet expeditions and thousands of custom trips to help ensure peace of mind for everyone involved.

All guests must have valid passports to participate in this program. Passports must be valid at least six months beyond the end date of your expedition. If visas are required for the expedition, a visa kit will be sent to you approximately between 6 and 3 months prior to departure depending on destination requirements. We work with an expediting service that helps make getting your required visas easier. Although you’re still required to fill out your visa forms and cover the application costs, they will review the application to make sure it’s complete and liaise with the necessary consulates and embassies to process your visas.

We pre-fill your customs and immigrations forms at every stop—all you have to do is sign. Where possible, our guests enjoy special privileges, such as expedited customs and immigration formalities. We may have a dedicated customs counter for our group and are occasionally allowed to go through without individual clearance.

The price of your expedition incorporates large items like the jet, hotels, transportation and meals, but it also includes many other things, such as activities, top-of-the-line guides, private dinners in restaurants, beverages and every single tip (guides, restaurants, hotel staff, drivers, etc.). In addition, we give you some “walking around money” in the local currency at each stop. We also supply you with all the bottled water you can drink all day every day. We even provide you with postcards that we mail for you—all you have to do is write.

Your expedition includes:

  • Travel on a privately chartered jet
  • First-class accommodations
  • Ground transportation
  • All meals and beverages, including select beer, wine and spirits aboard the jet and group lunches and dinners
  • All sightseeing activities, from guided small-group excursions and private shopping to more active options such as snorkeling and hikes
  • Special events and private access
  • Top local guides and/or on-trip experts
  • A veteran expedition team who handles all logistics
  • On some itineraries, a trip physician who accompanies you throughout your journey
  • All gratuities
  • Luggage handling

Your expedition does not include:

  • Commercial airfare between your home city and departure/arrival destination
  • Optional and additional accident/baggage/cancellation insurance
  • Passport and visa fees
  • Personal expenses such as laundry, telephone and fax fees
  • All beverages not mentioned above as included
  • Hotel minibar charges
  • Meals not scheduled by TCS World Travel
  • Inoculation and medication costs of any kind

Reservation Process

To reserve your place on the Tour, you must complete and sign the Reservation Form and pay your deposit. The deposit can be made by wire transfer or by a major credit card such as American Express, Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card. To cover the cost of processing a credit or charge card transaction, and pursuant to applicable state regulations (including, with respect to Colorado, section 5-2-212, Colorado Revised Statutes), TCS charges a surcharge of 3.0 % for credit card payments. This surcharge is not greater than our merchant discount rate for credit card transactions and does not apply to payment via debit card, ACH or check or redemption of a gift card, or to credit card payments with a billing address in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Puerto Rico. Your place on the Tour is not reserved until the deposit and signed reservation form are both received.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your reservation or change your plans, your right to receive a refund is limited, as set forth in the trip payment schedule. All cancellations will become effective as of the date of the postmark or email receipt. All requests for refunds must be sent to TCS World Travel in writing via mail, fax or email.

If you are traveling solo and prefer the privacy of your own room, you will be charged a solo traveler supplement. This ensures that individual travelers will get the same type and size rooms as our double occupancy travelers.

The Jet tour is operated by TCS World Travel, dedicated to delivering immersive, worry-free travel experiences for the globally curious and modern luxury traveler. The aircraft is operated by Titan Airways, an IOSA-certified airlines with over 30 years of experience in bespoke air charter travel.

  • Insurance for your entire trip cost in a single streamlined plan
  • The ability to purchase the plan and waive pre-existing conditions any time up until final payment
  • COVID-19 coverage, with the option to cancel before your trip departs
  • Flexibility to pay in installments and insure your trip as you go

Our insurance program also includes these additional benefits for your peace of mind:

  • No-risk guarantee allowing you to cancel your plan within 10 days and receive a full refund
  • Coverage for trip cancellation/interruption, baggage loss, emergency dental and more
  • Option to add on Cancel For Any Reason (“CFAR”) coverage for up to 75 percent of your trip cost

Global health institutions like the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are now categorizing COVID-19 as an endemic disease, similar to other infectious diseases we live with daily. In response to this changing global scenario, most countries have now relaxed or dropped their COVID-19 vaccine and testing regulations – so TCS has adapted our policy as well.

  • While we highly recommend that guests be vaccinated, we are no longer requiring vaccines for guests to travel on a TCS group jet expedition, unless it is required by one of the destinations on the program.
  • There will no longer be required testing for COVID-19 either prior to trip start, at trip start or during your journey, unless it is required by one of the destinations on the program or recommended by the trip physician for treatment support.
  • We will ask any guests who are exhibiting symptoms of illnesses (such as colds or flu) to mask when they are around other guests, helping to reduce transmission and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. We look forward to embarking on an extraordinary journey together as travel gradually returns to normal. Please reach out if you have any questions.

All the Ways to Fly Private, Starting at $100 Per Flight

By Debra Kamin

Private jet travel took off in a big way during the pandemic. Flying private, which has long been viewed as a swanky, sometimes out-of-reach indulgence, suddenly became much more attractive in the era of social distancing. And as a flurry of new players entered the market in response to demand, the prices, long considered sky-high, became more accessible as well.

These days, relaxing in privacy at 35,000 feet no longer requires access to your own personal G5. There are now dozens of options for travelers looking to take to the skies in seclusion, many of them with ticket prices that deliver less sticker shock than you might expect. And the fact that most services operate out of smaller airports and private terminals has become even more appealing since the start of the pandemic, increasing demand.

Air Charter Service, the world's largest private aircraft broker, saw its new clients increase 25 percent in 2021. Many of them made the leap to private because it offered a pathway to reunite with family, says Caitlin Uhlmann, CEO of the company's Chicago office. In 2022, one in four of those first-time clients went on to book again and are now repeat clients.

“Being in the industry over 12 years, I’ve never experienced the wave of new clientele and limited aircraft availability due to demand as I had in the last two years,” Uhlmann says. “It doesn’t seem that private travel will slow down in the near future.”

Learning to navigate the multitude of companies and different categories of private air travel—from fly-share services to fractional ownership—can feel overwhelming. Below is a primer on some of the ways to score a seat on a private aircraft.

Charter open marketplaces

These days, all it takes is a strong Wi-Fi connection (and a handy app or two) to get yourself into a private plane. A number of newer services are connecting fliers directly with charter operators, allowing you to browse, book, and buy within minutes.

JetASAP , a free, self-service app that defines itself as an “Airbnb for air travel,” launched in November 2020, allowing fliers to secure and book private flights directly from their smartphones. There’s a free feature to search in both the app and website, and unlimited access is available for $79.99/month or $399.99/year. Fliers are never required to pay a commission—just punch in a flight request, which includes your airport of departure and preferred flight times. Live operators respond with quotes and can answer any questions, and members get access to an exclusive list of more than 1,000 bookable daily trips.

Another newcomer to the private aviation sphere,  FlyJets  debuted in January 2020. The platform operates like a travel search engine, allowing customers to filter results via their preferred aircraft size, location, and desired departure time. An app, with features including automated scheduling, is set to debut before the end of 2022. Prices can be as much as 50 percent lower than the costs of an average charter, and booking options include full charters, seats on shared charters, and group-purchases. Travelers can even bid on flights that lack a fixed price. They can also earn rewards for flying green, with carbon offsets delivered directly to their user dashboard.

Flyjets The Private Jet Decoder

Flyjets enables users to sort results by preferred aircraft size and desired departure time.

Traditional chartering services

If you want to get in the air without strings attached, but need a little more guidance in which plane to choose, charters are a great option. Charter companies work with dozens of private air operators to locate your ideal flight and manage door-to-door logistics, with no long-term commitment required. Many also offer the option to purchase a jet card, which you can load up either with a fixed number of flight hours or with money you spend like a debit card. The field is a crowded one: along with Wheels Up and Blade, there’s also Air Partner, Private Fly, and Jettly, among others.

Founded in 2019, Aero offers white-glove service on a fleet of sleek 16-seater black jets. The company flies to Aspen, Colorado; Los Cabos, Mexico; Sun Valley, Idaho ; Los Angeles (Van Nuys and LAX); San Francisco ; London ; Ibiza; and Nice, France . Flights to Switzerland are coming at the end of 2022. Tickets on most routes run $1,000 per leg.

Blade  is a popular choice for city-based travelers. It connects fliers not just with jets but also turboprops, seaplanes, and helicopters in their contracted fleet via a user-friendly app. Its Blade One planes offer seasonal service from  NYC  to  Miami , Palm Beach, and Aspen. A jaunt from NYC to Miami on BladeOne starts at $2,975 per leg. There's no membership required and fliers can purchase multipacks of flight passes on certain routes.

Founded in 2013,  Wheels Up  provides access to more than 1,500 aircraft, with a fleet that includes gold-standard planes like the King Air 350i and Citation X. Initially, its offerings were only accessible via three tiers of membership. But late last year, it rolled out the Wheels Up app, which also allows non-members to browse and book one-off flights. Wheels Up Connect memberships have a $2,995 initiation fee plus annual dues of $2,495, and rates jump up from there. Core memberships, which cost $17,500 plus $8,500 in annual dues, include guaranteed access to certain tiers of aircraft plus access to bespoke partners like Abercrombie & Kent, Hertz, Tropic Ocean Airways, and more.

Fly-sharing

Fly-share companies are the easiest on the wallet. Companies like Surf Air , and JSX enable travelers to snag a coveted seat on a private jet charter—sometimes for as little as $100 each way—sharing space with only a handful of other passengers and enjoying perks like no security lines and departure from  private terminals . Here's an in-depth  breakdown of popular fly-share operators  and what each one offers.

JSX, a semi-private carrier, offers flights on 30-seat jets, out of private terminals, starting at $249 each way. The company currently serves 18 markets including Austin, Texas ; Los Angeles ; Miami ; and Westchester County, New York. Thanks to a new partnership with United Airlines, travelers can earn United MileagePlus miles for their flights.

Membership programs

For more frequent fliers, membership programs can be attractive. Through tiered subscription programs, you’ll pay a monthly or annual fee that unlocks access to an entire fleet of aircrafts that can then be booked on demand.

Interest in this company is skyrocketing—new client memberships are at the highest they have ever been, and sales in the first months of 2022 were up 185 percent from the same period in 2021. VistaJet’s fleet of silver and red aircraft includes corporate jets and the long-range Bombardier Global 7500, which has a bedroom and full-size kitchen. Membership options include VistaJet VJ25, a three-year private flight subscription for those who fly between 25 and 49 hours per year.

With a $100 monthly membership fee and one-way flights starting at $750,  Set Jet  is one of the most affordable private air travel options on the market. Founded in 2014, the West Coast-based company currently offers domestic routes from  Los Angeles , San Diego , Orange County, Scottsdale , Las Vegas , San Francisco , and Cabo San Lucas, with seasonal charters to Aspen and Salt Lake City . And it’s growing fast—its fleet of Bombardier aircraft will soon also be taking off from  New York , with expansions into Florida and Texas also in the works. It offers good news for spontaneous travelers, too: Set Jet members can book a new flight up to 24 hours before takeoff and snag a seat on an existing flight up to 30 minutes before wheels go up.

One of the largest private aviation firms globally, XO Members and clients have access to more than 2,450 private jets across cabin classes. Seats or entire charters can be booked via the XO mobile app. XO Shared Membership is $595 per year, reducing the seat price for every booking including flights between New York and South Florida that are now offered up to four times daily, seven days a week.

Sentient Jet

Sentient Jet is the inventor of the Jet Card, which allows users to buy 25 hours of flights at a time and choose the aircraft size that fits their needs. The SJ25 Card offers access to light aircraft at a price of $174,375 for 25 hours; SJ25+ gets you 25 hours on mid, super-mid, and large-cabin jets for $224,622.

Magellan Jets

This Boston -based private aviation provider also offers charters, but an easier entry point is their membership program. Explorer100 Private Jet Members receive fixed-rate pricing across four cabin-size categories. With a starting account of $100,000, members receive a 12-month rate lock, guaranteed WiFi on flights, and long-leg/round-trip discounts.

Fractional ownership

With fractional ownership, your piece of the pie is allocated in hours. Owners purchase a portion or share of an aircraft, which is doled out in hours of flight time. The bigger the share, the more hours you get in the air; and unlike membership programs, it's a one-time investment. Companies like NetJets , the granddaddy of private aviation companies, and Flexjet , whose young fleet includes Embraer's super-light Phenom 300 and the ultra-long-range Gulfstream G450, offer ownership starting at a one-sixteenth interest in an aircraft. Buyers should still be prepared to shell out at least $500,000 and often much more.

8 unbelievable around-the-world private jet trips

TCS World Travel Aircraft_Facebook

Is your list of dream trips growing exponentially? What if we told you there was a way to knock them out in one fell swoop?

Enter the around-the-world private jet journey.

On these trips, guests travel in groups to the most famous destinations in the world, accompanied by a full staff that usually includes a tour manager, a private chef for the flights and a doctor, plus on-the-ground travel managers.

It's not entirely unlike like a high-end cruise or a land tour — except the transportation is by private jet, of course.

Travelers spend a few days in each destination, choosing from a list of excursions — or, in some cases, charting their own course with a private driver or local guide organized by the tour operator. At night, guests enjoy lodging at luxury hotels, save for a few red-eye flights.

"For many of our clients, the most finite resource is time, and the around-the-world private jet journeys are a great way to 'check the boxes' of some of the most popular attractions without extending their stay in a destination in which they might not be as interested," said travel advisor Maggie Jones of KK Travels Worldwide , a Virtuoso member.

"Since the pandemic, a fair amount of our clients are coming to us and wanting to complete their bucket-list trips sooner rather than later, and it has been incredibly special to be able to present this type of travel as an option for them."

Perhaps unsurprisingly, these experiences do have a pretty hefty price tag, but can you put a price on having one company handle all your travel arrangements to some of the world's most legendary sites? And that's not to mention the benefit of avoiding commercial air travel. Plus, these journeys are frequently all-inclusive, so everything from meals to lodging to excursions is included with the rate.

Whether you're more interested in historic sites like Chile's Easter Island or wildlife-centric ones like Tanzania's Serengeti, there's a private jet journey out there that will speak to you.

Four Seasons Private Jet Ancient Explorer

private jet round trip

For the history lover, this private jet journey offered by Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts makes nine stops at some of the world's most incredible archaeological sites: Chile's Easter Island and Egypt's Great Pyramids of Giza, to name two. But the journey also includes stops in bustling metropolises like Mexico City and natural wonders like Australia's Great Barrier Reef and Jordan's Wadi Rum desert valley. Guests travel in the Four Seasons' own Boeing 757, outfitted with 52 lie-flat business-class seats and a steam oven so the jet's executive chef can prepare gourmet meals on board. The itinerary includes stays at Four Seasons properties around the world, of course. The 24-day itinerary can be booked from $190,000 per person, and there are typically one or two departures a year (the next journey kicks off on Sept. 29). (Now, if only Four Seasons had a loyalty program .)

Abercrombie & Kent Private Jet Journeys Wildlife Safari

private jet round trip

Going on safari is a must for animal lovers, but a private jet safari takes things to the next level. Abercrombie & Kent's Wildlife Safari checks many wildlife bucket list items, from whale sharks in the Philippines to tigers in India and gorillas in Rwanda. And, yes, the experience includes a stop in Kenya to see the Big Five (African elephants, lions, Cape buffalo, rhinos and leopards), as well as cultural experiences like learning calligraphy in Japan. For the eight-stop journey, A&K charters a Boeing 757 with all lie-flat, business-class seats, which includes an onboard chef and free Wi-Fi where available. You'll spend your nights in luxury accommodations such as The Peninsula Tokyo and One&Only Gorilla's Nest in Rwanda. This 24-day journey starts at $159,950 per person, and there's only one departure a year. The next one leaves on Oct. 6.

National Geographic Expeditions: Around the World by Private Jet

private jet round trip

Travel with National Geographic experts , including historians, anthropologists and photographers, on an incredible private-jet journey that visits 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The adventure begins in Washington, D.C., and includes stops at ancient sites like Machu Picchu in Peru, Easter Island in Chile and Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Sprinkle in a few warm-weather stops in the Pacific throughout this first leg, then you're off to the Himalayas. Up next is the Taj Mahal in India, followed by a trip across Africa and the Middle East. National Geographic's Boeing 757 has spacious leather seats for up to 75 guests, though they're not lie-flat. They do, however, recline 45 degrees, which is reasonable enough given that you'll be spending most nights in luxury hotels around the world, including La Mamounia in Marrakech, Morocco, and the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti in Tanzania. Similar to other itineraries, this expedition spans 24 days and starts at a cool $94,995 per person. Approximately six National Geographic Expeditions are available every year, with the next one departing on Sept. 29.

TCS World Travel: World Less Traveled

private jet round trip

For travelers who have already seen many of the world's top highlights and want to try something a little different for a grand around-the-world trip, TCS's World Less Traveled private jet itinerary to five of the most intriguing "emerging destinations" is a must-book. The trip starts and ends in London and stops in Dakar, Senegal; Salvador, Brazil; Lomé, Togo; AlUla, Saudi Arabia; and Tunis, Tunisia. Of course, none of these destinations are new — in fact, many have been around for thousands of years — but they are often less visited by travelers. This trip is particularly suitable for art lovers, as both ancient and contemporary art plays a big role in each of the destinations. The journey is flown on an Airbus A321neo-LR with 52 lie-flat seats. Book your spot on the once-a-year, 15-day trip from $150,000 per person. The next tour leaves on Feb. 11, 2023.

Road Scholar: Discover the World by Private Plane

private jet round trip

Another itinerary that starts and concludes in London, Road Scholar's private jet trip hits many of the world's most iconic sites: England's Stonehenge, Jordan's Petra and India's Amber Fort in Jaipur among them. But we also applaud this itinerary's slightly more off-the-beaten-path stops, including the Jantar Mantar observatory (also in Jaipur) and the Mutrah Souq in Muscat, Oman. The airborne part of the journey takes place in a Boeing 767 with 54 lie-flat seats, while the landside journey includes stays at lauded luxury properties like The Oberoi in New Delhi and Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort in Siem Reap, Cambodia. One of the bonuses with this itinerary is that there's no single supplement for solo travelers, and there are often deals for business-class airfare to and from London. Spots on the 21-day expedition, which is held three times a year, start at $62,999 per person. The next trip kicks off on April 17, 2023.

Aman The Grandest Tour

private jet round trip

If you're a fan of the luxury hotel brand Aman, this around-the-world journey is the best way to experience some of its top properties — and the incredible destinations in which they're located. This tour begins in Japan before traveling to several destinations in Southeast Asia, followed by Bhutan and India, with a conclusion in Europe (the specific destinations change each trip). While most around-the-world private-jet journeys are not actually all that private, Aman ensures its program is: Just 18 guests can join each trip, cohosted by Remote Lands, and each group on the tour has its own driver for excursions. As such, you might not find it too surprising that Aman's aircraft isn't an all-business-class commercial jet but a true corporate one. More specifically, it flies the Airbus ACJ3189, the business counterpart to the A319, which has a lounge configuration. The Grandest Tour from Aman spans 21 days, and the next trip departs on Oct. 12. The cost per person is $152,888 ($305,776 per couple, or $196,776 per single for a solo traveler with a single supplement).

Smithsonian Journeys: Around the World by Private Jet: A Classic Journey

private jet round trip

Leave it to a travel company founded out of the iconic Smithsonian Institution to create a nine-stop, around-the-world private jet journey that combines the best of history, culture and nature in a single trip. You can expect to visit all the heavy hitters in the archaeological world (Machu Picchu, Easter Island, the Great Pyramids, Angkor Wat and Petra, among them) as well as natural hotspots like the Great Barrier Reef and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Smithsonian Journeys utilizes two aircraft for these journeys, depending on the specific itinerary: an Airbus A321 and a Boeing 757, each of which is outfitted with 52 and 48 lie-flat seats, respectively. Smithsonian's around-the-world itineraries last for 24 days, generally take place three or four times a year and start at $109,950 per person.

Art in Voyage: 28-day Magellan Odyssey World Tour

private jet round trip

As you've probably ascertained, most private-jet world tours visit the same destinations. And while those stops are all magnificent, what's special about Art in Voyage's month-long journey is its somewhat alternative stops. That includes Chile's Atacama desert (one of the best places on Earth for stargazing); New Zealand for adventure activities such as helicopter rides, catamaran tours and white-water rafting; and Bordeaux, France, for a culinary immersion and a ride in a vintage Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini or Ferrari. The 10-stop itinerary does include some of the more typical main attractions, too, such as Petra and Tanzania's Serengeti. It's really the blend of destinations that makes this itinerary stand out. While Art in Voyage hasn't yet selected an aircraft for this journey, travelers can expect to be on a private, all-business-class aircraft. Spots on the 28-day itinerary, which departs on March 10, 2024, can be reserved from $105,611 per person.

There’s no question about it: Flying private is the epitome of luxury travel and the ultimate way to go—provided you have the budget, of course. Jet-setting by private plane has been especially popular in the last year among the deep-pocketed set, who consider seclusion and staying away from crowds as paramount.

Even with the pandemic abating, the interest doesn’t seem to be slowing down. “People are realizing that flying private is seamless and even more so now when commercial flight schedules haven’t resumed to their pre-COVID levels,” says Brie Shelley , who owns an eponymous luxury travel company in Boston.

The industry is well aware of the appetite for this exclusive way to hit the road, says Shelley, and as a result, there are a slew of new private jet trips available to take later this year and into next.

Simple Flying

Luxurious experience: a look at the four seasons private jet.

The ultimate in comfort and luxury whilst having the adventure of a lifetime.

  • Four Seasons offers a luxurious private jet experience with tailored adventures across the world.
  • Journeys last 2-3 weeks, have themed itineraries, cost $150,000-$200,000 per person, and include no ultra-long-haul flights.
  • The custom-fitted Airbus A321LRneo has 48 leather seats, chef-prepared meals, and space to dine, socialize, relax, and network.

The Four Seasons Private Jet Experience is a concept that is synonymous with the luxury hotel and resort brand. They have over 100 properties across the world, so what better way to take a round-the-world journey than traveling by their very own exclusive private jet?

The concept and luxury experience

The aim of the private jet experience is to combine once-in-a-lifetime adventures whilst creating a sense of the glamour of jet travel, where the journey is as enjoyable as the destination. The concept is based on customer service excellence, attention to detail and a customized luxury experience. Every flight is a special occasion. It harks back to the glamour days of travel when a flight was an adventure, something to dress up for and to socialize. It is similar to taking a traditional 'cruise' but in the air.

Journeys and flights

Journeys are two to three weeks long and are either across the world or focused on one region, with names such as 'Ancient Explorer' and 'Unchartered Discovery', they are offering a true adventure of a lifetime. The trips cost between $150,000 and $200,000 per person, so are not for everyone, but they certainly offer a unique experience and often wait-listed or get sold out.

Flights are planned carefully so that there are no ultra-long-haul flights. Flights take place during the day and arrive mid-afternoon at most destinations for the best experience. Accommodation is usually at a Four Seasons hotel or of a similar standard. Most meals and drinks are included in the price, as well as excursions and adventures. All drinks and meals and the services on the private jet are inclusive.

The onboard experience

The Private Jet Experience was first launched in 2015. The Four Seasons private jet is a custom-fitted Airbus A321LRneo that is owned by the brand and operated by Titan Airways. There are 14 crew on board, including three pilots and a flight engineer. There is one cabin crew per every six passengers, ensuring the best attention and service. There is also a physician onboard for any health matters as well as a concierge and journey manager to streamline your journey.

An onboard chef creates the meals and can provide personalized menus to the guests liking. Everything from a Michelin star-style meal to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, nothing is too much trouble. The chef uses local ingredients and offers different perspectives and culinary adventures reflective of the journey. Dietary restrictions are catered to. The aircraft is the highest Four Seasons 'restaurant' in the world.

The cabin design and interior features

The Airbus A321LR is the longest range of its variant and has a range of 4,000 nautical miles or 4,600 miles. It has the widest and tallest cabin in its class and with just 48 seats, ensuring personal space. A standard A321 would normally hold 206 passengers to put this into perspective. This private jet style Airbus is clearly designed with the Four Seasons image in mind and has the same luxury, comfort and style as the properties.

The aircraft has 48 custom-designed hand-crafted soft Italian leather seats in 12 rows with a 2-2 configuration. These extend to a 6.5-foot lie-flat bed with an ottoman for extra legroom. The configuration also allows for guests to sit opposite one another. All finishes are like that of a private jet with a sleek and modern look combined with functionality and comfort.

There is plenty of space to dine, socialize or relax. Guests have Wi-Fi and an inflight entertainment system and sometimes there is onboard entertainment. There is also a luxurious onboard lavatory that can also be used as a changing room. The lavatory also has a full-length mirror and leather bench along with the luxury amenities you would expect.

The Private Jet Experience is meant to be as interactive as you wish it to be. There is an onboard lounge, where you can relax or network, participate in a workshop or watch a demonstration.

What happens on a journey?

The journeys are designed to be an adventure and immersive, but you can choose from many different kinds of experiences. Not everyone will have the same itinerary and journeys are fully customizable to your own preferences. Some examples are:

  • City helicopter trips
  • Coastal cruises
  • Canoe adventures
  • Sightseeing excursions
  • Test driving a Ferrari or Porsche
  • Champagne breakfasts and cocktail bars
  • Culinary tours
  • Sunrise hot air balloon flights

How Much Does Flying on a Private Jet Actually Cost? (It Might Surprise You)

For those who would rather fly private, there are ample ways to charter a private jet or to purchase individual seats on a private flight. and the cost varies more than most travelers probably realize..

From booking a seat on a semi-private flight to chartering an uber-luxurious private jet, private jet travel comes in many different shapes and sizes.

The convenience of flying private became abundantly clear to fans of the hit HBO show Succession as we watched the Roys zip off to exclusive retreats and far-flung business meetings in a matter of hours. That level of ease of travel at a time when flying commercial has become fraught with long airport lines and cascades of cancellations and delays may have some travelers wondering, how much does flying on a private jet cost, really?

It costs anywhere between $2 million and upwards of $100 million to buy a new private jet, and it costs between $1,300 and $13,000 per flying hour to charter a private jet, depending on the size and capacity of the airplane, according to private jet charter company Air Charter Service.

“For many, private travel is something they tried in the pandemic and a luxury they’re not willing to give up now,” global luxury travel agency consortium Virtuoso reported in a recent survey of travel advisors released in August 2023.

According to Virtuoso, now more than ever high-net-worth travelers are seeking privacy and personalization as they plan upcoming trips. “Private aviation is climbing in popularity for domestic and shorter international flights,” the luxury travel network noted.

Not surprisingly, several private jet charter companies and luxury resort and villa properties have partnered to offer travelers just that: private flight service directly to an exclusive villa or resort destination.

For instance, for $148,000 per person, you can fly on a two-week private jet itinerary hosted by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts with stops in Greece, Egypt, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, and South Africa. The 13-day African Wonders journey takes place on the Four Seasons private jet, and guests stay at Four Seasons luxury properties globally. Four Seasons currently hosts numerous other private jet journeys each year.

How much does it cost to buy a private jet?

You could, of course, go all out and buy a private jet. Depending on the age, make, and model, private jets cost anywhere between $500,000 for an older used model, to upwards of $100 million for a state-of-the-art private jet with all the bells and whistles. Add to that how much it costs to operate and maintain the aircraft, which can be up to several million dollars per year, and we’re looking at quite the investment.

Dream quashed? Not necessarily. From private jet charter services to companies that sell individual seats on private planes, private jet travel is more accessible than you might think.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet?

According to private jet charter company Air Charter Service , you can expect to pay between between $1,300 and $13,000 per flying hour to charter a private jet , depending on the size of the aircraft. It typically costs between $1,300 and $3,000 per flying hour to charter a turboprop or smaller jet plane, which seats 4 to 6 passengers; between $4,000 and $8,000 per flying hour for a midsize jet, which typically accommodates up to 9 passengers; and between $8,600 and $13,000 per flying hour for larger private jets, which usually seat from 14 to 19 passengers. You can see how that translates into a cross-country flight below.

The cost for a six-hour cross-country private jet charter flight

Beyond Air Charter Service, other companies that offer private jet charters include Air Partner , PrivateFly , and Jettly , booking platforms for on-demand private jet charters.

How much does it cost to book a seat on a semi-private jet?

Because passengers are not chartering the entire aircraft the way they would when booking a private jet, the cost to book a seat on a semi-private jet ranges from as little as $209 one-way with semi-private carrier JSX to $1,800 one-way with high-end airline Aero.

JSX is one of the most prominent and affordable semi-private air carriers in the United States.

Which companies offer semi-private flights?

A growing number of companies are offering travelers the ability to book a single seat, similar to how you would on a commercial flight, on a public charter private jet flight or a semi-private jet. They include:

  • Aero: Launched in 2020, the semi-private, luxury airline Aero offers one-way flights from Dallas to Aspen starting at $1,000, one-way flights from Los Angeles to Los Cabos starting at $1,800, and one-way flights from London to Nice starting at $1,600. Prices include one checked luggage and one carry-on. Aero flies from Aspen, Colorado; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Las Vegas; L.A.; Los Cabos, Mexico; San Francisco; and Sun Valley, Idaho. It also flies between some European hubs, including London; Nice, France; and Ibiza, Spain.
  • Blade: A helicopter and semi-private flight service, Blade mainly operates flights from New York City to Palm Beach and Miami, Florida; it also offers helicopter service from Manhattan to John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark International Airport. One-way flights to Palm Beach start at $1,250.
  • JSX: Formerly JetSuiteX, JSX is by far one of the most affordable options for semi-private travel , with one-way fares starting as low as $209 on 30-seat Embraer E135 planes, which includes up to two checked bags as well as snacks and drinks on board. JSX connects several California hubs, including Burbank, Concord, Los Angeles, Monterey, Orange County, Oakland, and San Diego. The airline also flies to Austin, Dallas, Denver, Gunnison/Crested Butte (Colorado), Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, Reno-Tahoe, Taos (New Mexico), and Westchester County in New York. JSX planes are outfitted with cushy leather seats and Starlink Wi-Fi.
  • Surf Air: Surf Air is a jet membership service that includes both scheduled semi-private flights (such as JSX flights) and on-demand jet service. The semi-private scheduled flights operate from Truckee, San Carlos, Santa Barbara, and Hawthorne in California, and the on-demand flights can be booked to and from hundreds of hubs all across the United States. Memberships range from $199 per month to access the inventory then pay per flight to $2,500 per month to unlock an unlimited flight plan.
  • Tradewind Aviation: The Oxford, Connecticut–based Tradewind Aviation operates on-demand and scheduled flights throughout the United States and Caribbean. Scheduled service includes flights to and from Westchester County in New York; Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts; and Newport, Rhode Island. Tradewind also flies between the Caribbean destinations of Anguilla, Antigua, San Juan, St. Bart’s, and St. Thomas. Flights run anywhere from $300 to hop between Caribbean islands to an opening rate of $395 to fly to Nantucket from Westchester. The aircraft fly out of private air terminals and flights include onboard refreshments.

There’s a private jet app for that

There are also several private jet startups that are based on a sharing economy-style model for booking private jets. One of them is XO , an app that allows passengers to book a private charter, a shared charter, or book seats on an available private flight. XO has two styles of payments, a membership fee model and a pay-as-you-go model. Memberships range from $595 per year, which allows you to skip the $395-per-flight service fee that applies to individual private flight bookings, or you can pay a $395 fee for a seat and add to that a $995 trip cost. For $995 per year, you can access the XO Reserve membership with a minimum $250,000 deposit that includes set hourly private charter pricing and no added fees.

Private jet app UberJets also helps users find and book charter aircraft. It doesn’t own or operate a fleet of aircraft and simply serves as a booking tool.

What is an empty leg deal?

An empty leg is a nonrevenue repositioning private jet flight—a private jet that has dropped passengers off on a one-way leg and would otherwise return to its home base empty. Because these are noncommissioned flights, they can often be accessed at a much lower price than a standard private jet flight as operators are happy to recuperate any of the costs and sell the flight for a deal—well, a deal for an entire private jet.

Private jet services such as Jettly and XO will often list their current empty leg deals and routes online.

What is a private jet card membership and how does it work?

A common way to access private jet service is through a private jet card membership. You pay a fee upfront—typically in the range of $100,000 to $200,000, according to Private Jet Card Comparisons , a site that allows users to compare the different programs available. Then private jet flights will be deducted from your initial deposit, typically at a set cost per hour. Hourly rates range from about $2,000 to $4,000 for a turboprop or smaller private jet up to $20,000 or more for a midsize or larger private jet that can fly longer-haul journeys.

“A jet card refers to debit card–style program that typically enables you to prepay for private jet flights at a fixed hourly rate with guaranteed availability,” Private Jet Card Comparisons explains on its site .

There are dozens of companies that sell private jet cards, including Air Charter Service, Air Partner, Airshare , Airstream Jets Inc., Alliance Aviation, Charter Flight Group, Delta Private Jets, Inc., Flexjet, International Jet, JetSuite, Jettly, Magellan Jets , Netjets, PrivateFly, Privé Jets, Quantum Jets, Unity Jets, VistaJet, and Wheels Up , among numerous others. Some companies specialize in shorter, domestic flights, while others offer access to global destinations, such as VistaJet .

For a fee of $250 , Private Jet Card Comparisons breaks down the options and what each card and program have to offer.

Beige interior of a private jet

Pricing for private jet charters depends on the size and type of aircraft—and the distance you need to fly.

The benefits of flying private

Avoid the crowds at the airport.

If you fly a private jet out of a major airport, you won’t be going through the main commercial air terminals. Most private jet operators use a designated area adjacent to a major airport for check-in, security, boarding, and disembarkation. Some have converted these areas into sleek lounge spaces for more comfortable waiting environments. But the bottom line is, you won’t be going through the same check-in procedures and security lines as everyone else at the airport—you will have a separate, more secluded area only for private fliers. (Prior to check-in, make sure to establish what the luggage restrictions are as well as those for flying with animals—they will vary depending on the size of the aircraft and by operator, though many typically have standard luggage allowances and allow pets to come along.)

Access to more destinations

Many private jet flights skip the larger, more bustling hubs opting instead to take off and land at smaller airstrips that are less congested. Those smaller airports can often get travelers even closer to their destination than a larger hub would, meaning less travel time to and from the aircraft itself. Access to destinations that don’t have regular commercial service or any service at all is another huge potential bonus of flying private.

Customized travel

When looking to book a private jet, travelers can customize the experience to their needs and wants (and budgets), including the size and style of the aircraft and the level of service. This can also translate into more work for the customer as it’s not as easy as simply going online and booking a flight—some back-and-forth communication is required between the private jet operator and the clients as they establish exactly which aircraft, flight routes, and service will be needed. The payoff is arguably worth it when you find the private flying experience that perfectly suits your desires.

The environmental impact of flying private

We’re not going to sugarcoat it. Flying private does not have a good track record when it comes to the environment. In a November 2019 report , U.K.-based nonprofit group Fellow Travellers together with economic democracy advocacy organization Common Wealth estimated that on average a private jet passenger journey within Europe emits around 7 times the greenhouse gases as the same business-class flight and around 10 times as much as an economy-class flight. Consequently, the report advocates for the rapid electrification of the private jet sector, which it notes is the segment of the air industry that is most amenable to going fully electric in the very near future.

That was confirmed by writer Elissa Garay in her AFAR article “ Electric Planes Are Coming Sooner Than You Think ,” which noted that some of the biggest gains in electric air travel include smaller two- to nine-passenger private electric planes.

Investments in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft are being made by companies that include Boeing, Airbus, NASA, and Toyota, as well as startups, such as California’s Archer Aviation and Joby Aviation, Germany’s Lilium, and the U.K.’s Vertical Aerospace, Garay reports.

While the Biden administration is making a big push to reduce air emissions by focusing on a switch to more sustainable aviation fuels, environmental organizations continue to emphasize that the biggest impact in the private aviation space will ultimately be a gradual conversion to fully electric flights.

8 Things To Not Do On Your First Private Jet Trip

E mbarking on your first private jet trip is an exciting and luxurious experience. Whether you're traveling for business or leisure, flying on a private jet offers unparalleled comfort, convenience, and personalized service. To ensure that your journey is smooth and enjoyable, it's essential to be mindful of certain etiquette and considerations specific to private jet travel . Here's what you should avoid doing:

Overpacking

While private jets offer more generous luggage allowances compared to commercial airlines, it's still crucial to pack thoughtfully. Avoid overpacking unnecessary items, as space onboard is valuable. Stick to essentials and inquire with the charter company about any specific luggage restrictions to ensure a hassle-free check-in process.

Arriving late

One of the major perks of private jet travel is the flexibility it offers regarding departure times. However, arriving late can still disrupt the travel schedule and inconvenience crew and other passengers. Aim to arrive at the airport with ample time to complete necessary formalities, allowing for a smooth departure.

Want answers to more key questions in aviation? Check out the rest of our guides here .

Dressing inappropriately

When traveling on a private jet, it's essential to dress appropriately with safety in mind . While the luxurious environment may invite relaxed attire, you might want to avoid overly casual or restrictive clothing that could pose safety risks, especially in the event of an emergency evacuation. Opt for comfortable yet sensible clothing, avoiding items like loose scarves, long flowing sleeves, or high heels, which may impede movement during an evacuation.

Overindulging in alcohol

Private jet travel often includes complimentary beverages. Even though passengers are allowed to sit back and enjoy multiple rounds of alcohol, it's important to drink responsibly . Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to discomfort during the flight and may affect your overall travel experience. Be mindful of your limits and enjoy in moderation.

Ignoring safety instructions

While private travel offers a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere, safety remains a top priority. Pay attention to safety briefings provided by the crew and familiarize yourself with the location of emergency exits and safety equipment. Following safety protocols ensures a secure and stress-free journey.

Discover more aviation news about the passenger experience here.

Ignoring security procedures

Unlike the usual security processes that passengers are familiar with at mainstream airports, most private jet terminals offer more streamlined processes. Despite the different experience, remember to comply with all security procedures for a smooth and efficient check-in: present valid identification, follow baggage screening rules, and cooperate with security personnel.

Discussing sensitive topics

Remember that private jet travel often includes sharing space with crew and other passengers. Avoid discussing sensitive or confidential matters that may make others uncomfortable. Maintain a respectful and considerate atmosphere during the flight.

Leaving a mess

Respect the private jet's luxurious interior by keeping it clean and tidy . Avoid leaving trash or personal items scattered around the cabin. Taking care of the aircraft ensures a pleasant environment for all passengers and shows appreciation for the exceptional service provided - and helps you avoid hefty cleaning charges.
