Yesterday the world lost one of rock and roll’s most influential guitar players, Eddie Van Halen . The 65-year-old virtuoso passed after a long battle with throat cancer. To honor his legacy, we’re looking back on Van Halen’s last tour.
The very last time Eddie Van Halen took the stage was on October 4th, 2015. The North American tour concluded with two hometown shows at the Hollywood Bowl, a venue they were playing for the first time. The 41-date trek was promo for their Tokyo Dome Live in Concert album.
The tour kicked off on July 5th at the White River Amphitheater and that first setlist included both live debuts and a handful of songs they hadn’t played in decades, starting with set opener “Light Up The Sky,” performed for the first time since 1980.
As a testament to the guitar God that EVH was, Van Halen’s #1 most performed song is… well, not a song. It’s a GUITAR SOLO and to date they’ve rocked more than 1300 of them. #2 is a drum solo and bass solo comes in at #5, still ahead of their most popular tracks, ”Panama” and “Jump.” Despite having written setlist histories for several years here at Setlist.fm, we don’t claim to be experts—just enthusiasts—still, we can say with confidence that SOLOS don’t usually top setlist stats.
After a few setlist staples ,”Runnin’ with the Devil” “Romeo Delight” and “Everybody Wants Some!!” VH unleashed “Drop Dead Legs” for the fist time ever, followed by “Feel Your Love Tonight,” for the first time since 1998. See some fan footage of those two songs:
Embedded content is no longer available.
The next setlist surprise was “Little Guitars,” a Diver Down track they hadn’t performed since 2008, and one that particularly stands out for a unique solo opening by Eddie Van Halen.
“In a Simple Rhyme” was resurrected 17 songs in, one they hadn’t played since a gig in 1978 . The second live debut of the evening was “Dirty Movies,” a Fair Warning track that has an interesting recording story .
The set’s two covers rolled in near the end of the show, John Brim’s “Ice Cream Man” and The Kinks “You Really Got Me,” which will go down in history as VH’s 3rd most-performed song. “Panama” was the set closer and VH’s most successful single to date, “Jump” was the encore.

RIP Eddie Van Halen, the music world mourns today but your legacy will live on in so many ways .

Van Halen Kick Off 2015 Tour With Debuts and Rarities: Set List, Photos + Videos
Van Halen kicked off their 2015 summer tour in Seattle last night, peppering their set list with a half-dozen songs that haven't been played live in decades – or in some cases, which were making their live debuts.
Bassist Wolfgang Van Halen promised fans " by far the best set list " he's ever made for this trek, and he delivered a big surprise right out of the gates as the band started the show with "Light Up the Sky" from their 1979 sophomore album . It's a track that hasn't been played live in 35 years, according to our friends at the Van Halen News Desk .
The night also saw the live debuts of "Drop Dead Legs" and "Dirty Movies" – both of which we've included below – and the return of long-lost gems such as "Feel Your Love Tonight" and "In a Simple Rhyme," the latter complete with the Women and Children -closing instrumental "Growth." Of course, essential classics such as "Runnin' With the Devil" and "Panama" occupied the majority of the evening. Van Halen's summer tour continues until October 2, and you can get all the dates right here .

Add Van Halen to the list of concerts coming to Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Alabama.
The venerable hard-rock band today announced 39 dates for its summer and fall tour, including a Sept. 17 show at the 10,500-seat venue in Pelham. Kenny Wayne Shepherd will open. ( See the full tour schedule below .)
Ticket prices are $82-$136, on sale at noon April 10 through Live Nation/Ticketmaster.
(Updated March 25 with ticket prices and public on-sale date.)
The concert here will mark Van Halen's first appearance in the Birmingham area in 20 years. Current lineup: lead singer David Lee Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen.
Fans are certain to have their fingers crossed, after Van Halen scheduled and abruptly canceled a show in August 2012 at the BJCC Arena. Dates in several other cities were nixed that year, as well.
Roth posted an explanatory video , saying the band's agenda was overbooked for its reunion tour. But the clip only served to fuel gossip and speculation, much of it centering on the band's notoriously fractious history.
This time around, Van Halen will be touring on a live album, "Tokyo Dome Live in Concert," recorded on June 21, 2013, in Japan. The collection features 23 songs pulled from all phases of the group's catalog, which stretches back to 1978.
The package, set for release March 31, is touted as the first live album from Van Halen with Roth on board. (Sammy Hagar handled lead vocals for a 1993 record, "Live: Right Here, Right Now.")
Starting today, get “Jump" & "Hot For Teacher" +2 more songs when you pre-order #TokyoDomeInConcert @iTunesMusic : http://t.co/3XKqJivo2Z — Van Halen (@VanHalen) March 24, 2015
On the heels of "Tokyo Dome," Van Halen will play a March 30 concert for "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Hollywood Boulevard. The greatest-hits performance will be broadcast March 30-March 31 on the ABC talk show, which airs at 10:35 p.m. CST.

Sammy Hagar tour: Van Halen songs on playlist for Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, Jason Bonham
Sammy Hagar plans to revitalize some Van Halen vibes on his upcoming summer tour.
For The Best of All Worlds Tour, Hagar and his bandmates in The Circle – bassist Michael Anthony, a founding member of Van Halen, and drummer Jason Bonham – will be joined by guitarist virtuoso Joe Satriani , who has recorded and performed with Hagar and Anthony in the band Chickenfoot.
The itinerary kicks off on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and the tour hits a total of 28 cities, concluding August 31 in St. Louis, Missouri. Loverboy will serve as the opening act.
Pre-sales begin on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m., with general on-sale starting Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. local. For more information go to RedRocker.com .
Hagar, 76, joined Van Halen as vocalist in 1985 after David Lee Roth left. Hagar also left the band in 1996, but returned for a 2004 tour. Recently, Hagar says he and Anthony decided to perform songs from their days playing in Van Halen at Hagar's annual Birthday Bash last month in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
"We pulled out a couple of them and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs," Hagar said in a statement with the tour announcement. "The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard so it's time we go out and serve the fans that music, while we still can."
The four albums of the "Van Hagar" era of the band – 5150 (1986), OU812 (1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991), and Balance (1995) – were recently re-released in newly remastered editions.
“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 04’ Best of Both Worlds Tour,” said Hagar. “With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years. We’re going to touch on some hits from my entire career but seeing fans old and new really embrace the new collection set off something in Mikey and I."
Joining the band on keyboards and backing vocals is Australian musician Rai Thistlethwayte.
