Background [ ]

Founded in 2042, the marina of Egret Tours offered recreational activities including tours of the Charles River before the Great War . [1] Hour-long tours were offered every two hours between the hours of 8 AM and 4 PM. Daily fishing tours were also available. [2] By 2287, the marina has become the home of Phyllis Daily , a reclusive woman who is convinced she is a synth after accidentally killing her grandchild .

The marina features a partly destroyed brick building where Phyllis resides, an enclosed dry dock, a boat shed, and a Red Rocket filling station for watercraft. Several mines and tripwires are found around and inside the various marina structures when it is first encountered.

The marina should prove easily defensible as there are few vectors of approach, with attackers mostly invading from the small cliff next to the boat shed. Such attacks are frequent due to the random encounter spawn point on the drawbridge nearby to the north. The presence of deep water allows for water purifiers, and there is sufficient dirt for crops.

The settlement offers advantages while in Survival mode. It is fairly close to the edge of the Glowing Sea , and comes with both a weapons workbench and a cooking station in Phyllis' residence.

Notable loot [ ]

  • Nuka-Cola Quantum - On the floor of the Red Rocket station at the end of the pier.
  • Wasteland Survival Guide issue #3 - On the counter of the Red Rocket station at the end of the pier, above the brain fungus.
  • Confront Phyllis about Samuel by first accessing her personal logs in her terminal or using a persuasion conversation option.
  • Kill Phyllis.
  • Choose any of the four options at the end of the dialogue. The choice determines how she greets the Sole Survivor afterward (either grateful or neutral), and which letter they will receive after she leaves; she will eventually leave regardless of the options chosen. Asking her to join the Commonwealth Minutemen requires a persuasion check.
  • After reading Phyllis' terminal entry about Samuel, the player character will be prompted with a new objective to confront Phyllis about Samuel. Speaking to Phyllis will force you through the entire dialogue with her, even if you had discussed Samuel with her prior to reading the terminal.
  • The location is fairly full of junk to set up a new settlement, with the exceptions of crystal and oil . Defenses are easily established, since gears are abundant through the presence of multiple fishing rods in the area.
  • Due to the direction from which NPCs tend to approach/invade the marina, provisioners and their pack brahmin often end up trapped on the roof of the boat shed. Building stairs leading down from the roof may remedy this.
  • Companions frequently comment on how quiet the location is and its proximity to water, with several making paranoid remarks. If Curie is brought here, she may ask "Can we go for a tour?"

Behind the scenes [ ]

Egret Tours Marina is in the same geographical location as Cutler Park Reservation , on the shores of Kendrick Pond and the Charles River . It is known for its vast number of bird species, including several varieties of Great Egret. [3]

Fallout 4: How Settlement Supply Lines Work

Settlements were introduced in Fallout 4. To know your way around them, you need to know about supply lines.

Quick Links

What is a supply line, how to set up supply lines in fallout 4, settlement locations, tips for managing your supply lines.

Settlements were one of the new big features introduced in Fallout 4 . With them, you no longer have to wander the wasteland alone or spend caps on grimy hotels. Now, you can build your own little settlements and become some sort of wasteland feudal lord.

The Most Powerful Builds In Fallout 4, Ranked

How to create good settlements can be very confusing at first. The role of Preston Garvey might seem more important than it really is. The thing is, you can build settlements without him. However, knowing what supply lines are and how they work is a far more important aspect. That's why this guide will help you with everything you need to know about supply lines in Fallout 4.

Updated April 24, 2024, by Sean Murray: Whether you're looking to restore the wasteland to its former glory or you're just looking for an easier way to store all your stuff, well-secured supply lines are a must for your settlements. We've restored this guide with new images, more information on where you can find settlements, and more tips on how to keep your settlements safe from raiders.

A supply line is something that connects settlements and allows them to share workshop inventory space . This means you could deposit something in the Sanctuary Hills workshop and retrieve it at the Hangman's Alley workshop without having to schlep it all the way there yourself.

What Are The Other Benefits?

If a connected inventory isn't enough to make you want to start connecting your settlements, hopefully, these other benefits pique your interest.

  • Excess food and water are shared amongst connected settlements , meaning you could have one farm settlement you connect to all others and all would be happy and fed.
  • The people you assign to the supply lines can help you out if they spot you in a bother while you're out and about. Many supply lines mean many patrols and safer travels .
  • If you can catch provisioners traveling between settlements , you can give them items to take. This lets you clear up inventory while still allowing those items to be available in your settlement network.

Before being able to use supply lines, you need to have the first rank of the Local Leader perk to establish supply lines, meaning you have to have six Charisma .

With the Local Leader perk, just open the workshop, highlight a settler, and click the supply line button . Then, choose what settlement you want them to supply and boom, the supply line is created.

If you'd like to remove a supply line (for whatever reason), simply reassign the provisioner to do some other job at the settlement. However, the provisioner must be at their home settlement to be reassigned, and it can sometimes be hard to tell which settlement a provisioner is originally from.

Reassigning provisioners is done using the Vault-Tec Population Management System from the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC.

Fallout 4: Things To Do After You Beat The Game

There are 37 total settlement locations in Fallout 4. You can find 30 locations in the base game with an additional seven added in the DLC, Automatron , Far Harbor , Vault-Tec Workshop, and Nuka-World .

Fallout 4: Where To Find A Gauss Rifle

  • You don't have to connect every settlement to every other settlement . The supply line can be a connect-the-dots-esque chain and will work to connect everything perfectly.
  • Since the settlers assigned to the supply lines will actually be wandering the wastes, it's a good idea to give them some decent weapons and armor . They can't die, but it'll mean they can help you if they see you.
  • To give provisioners weapons and armor, simply initiate dialog and trade the weapons and armor you want your provisioner to wield.
  • You can create supply lines for settlements that are completely surrounded by water . Brahmin can swim, apparently.
  • Provisioners do count towards the water and food requirements of each settlement, so be sure to have a little extra to account for your provisioners.

10 best Settlements in Fallout 4, ranked

S ettlements in Fallout 4 play a crucial role in your overall experience with the game. Even though the title has been out for almost a decade now, people still come out and boast their impressive settlement designs to this day. However, there are over 37 settlements available and there are a lot of things to consider when choosing one for yourself.

So, finding the right settlements in Fallout 4 can get a little daunting. But, we've got you covered, as this article will rank the 10 best settlements in Fallout 4.

NOTE: This article is subjective and solely reflects the writer's opinion.

Here are the 10 best settlements in Fallout 4, ranked

10) hangman's alley.

Hangman's Alley is not as expansive as the other settlements in Fallout 4, but its proximity to Diamond City makes it a good spot to hunker down. Hangmen's Alley also comes with a Weapons Workbench and a Cooking Station.

If you need anything to build, a quick visit to Diamond City should be enough to get most supplies. However, the limited build space you get in Hangman's Alley makes it 10th on our list. The building area is very small and is littered with junk some of which is immovable. This might not appeal to those who like a clean settlement.

9) Red Rocket Truck Stop

The Red Rocket Truck Stop is an excellent alternative to the Sanctuary settlement. It comes with most of the workbenches found in Sanctuary and works perfectly if you're trying to avoid Preston Garvey. This settlement also has a pretty good roof that is perfect for building turrets.

Since the roof can only be accessed from inside the settlement, invaders and other creatures will have a tough time dealing with the turrets on top. However, the Red Rocket Truck Stop is a little small and doesn't have a lot of flat surfaces for building. You also can't build water purifiers in the area.

8) Egret Tours Marina

There are plenty of southern-located settlements in Fallout 4 like the Somerville Palace, Merc Water Construction Site, or Jamaica Plain. But the Egret Tours Marina is far better than the others because of its large building area. There are plenty of flat foundations which means you won't have to put down any floating foundations for building.

The Egret Tours Marina is also located close to water, which helps with building water purifiers and will also help predict the spawn location of enemies. If you're planning on checking this place out, be wary of the landmines spread around the location.

7) Grey Garden

Grey Garden is one of the best early settlements in Fallout 4. Although small and difficult to build in, there are a ton of pre-cultivated crops growing inside that are all ready for harvesting, making Grey Garden an excellent choice.

Moreover, there are Mr. Handy robots in the area that are the ideal settlers. They don't require beds, water, or sleep. All you need to do is set up a supply line and set up some turrets for defending the base, and Grey Garden suddenly transforms into a very convenient and easy-to-maintain settlement.

6) Finch's Farm

Finch's Farm is easily one of the best settlements in Fallout 4 for those who like to build. This settlement comes with a large building area, and it's pretty high off the ground, so you can set up some turrets to completely lock the place down.

However, despite all the open space, putting Water Purifiers on Finch's Farm can be a nightmare. Moreover, the Finch family's house has a ton of immovable objects, which can be frustrating if you're planning to use the space for building.

5) Starlight Drive-In

The Starlight Drive-In provides an absolutely massive area for you to build in, and since most of it is on level ground, you won't have to deal with the nuances of floating structures. Another thing that's great about the Starlight Drive-in is all the salvageable materials around the settlement. Apart from the cars and mailboxes, the area behind the screen is also filled with salvage and will help you build.

However, you do have to be careful when you approach this settlement because the diner inside is filled with boobytraps and will easily lead to your demise if you're not careful.

4) Sanctuary Hills

Despite being one of the first settlements, Sanctuary Hills is also one of the best. There is plenty of wood and steel in the area, so you won't have to search for any building materials while you're here. Moreover, there is a huge water supply close to the settlement, so you and your inhabitants will have constant access to Purified Water in Fallout 4 .

The best part about Sanctuary Hills is the scrappable pre-war houses. You can rip any house down to its foundation, and it will leave you with a flat surface where you can build pretty much anything you want. What holds the Sanctuary back is its location. Since it is found near the starting area of the game, it can be a hassle to travel between Sanctuary and other crucial areas.

3) The Castle

What's great about the Castle is the fact that it comes equipped with every workbench you'll need except a power armor station, which is important for getting Power Armor in Fallout 4 . However, that isn't reason enough to drop this place since it also comes with an industrial water purifier that is already up and running.

Moreover, tons of weapons and turrets will be available to you once the Old Guns quest has been completed. The only thing holding this settlement back are the destroyed walls around the castles. This kind of ruins the setting a bit, and the fact that you can't patch them up can be disappointing.

2) Spectacle Island

Spectacle Island boasts one of the largest building areas across all settlements in Fallout 4. The island is also full of scrap items so you will never run out of materials while building. Moreover, Spectacle Island also allows you to build up to 10 stories in specific areas of the settlement.

The biggest issue with this settlement is its remote location. First off, you are separated from the mainland since the settlement is literally on an island. Also, even after you reach the land, the main cities are quite a bother to get to, which holds this settlement back from taking the number one spot on our list.

1) Abernathy Farm

Abernathy Farm has it all. There is plenty of building space and this settlement also has the highest build limit allowing you to make structures up to 20 stories tall. Moreover, the location of the settlement is very good. It is near the Red Rocket Truck Stop and Sanctuary Hills settlements in Fallout 4, so building supply lines between the three is also fairly simple.

Last but not least, you can also plant several crops on this island and build up an impressive food supply. To get your hands on this, you only have to complete a simple quest for the Abernathy family. All of this combined makes this one of the best settlements in Fallout 4.

With the roaring success of the spin-off TV show , Fallout is back in the minds of gamers everywhere. Fallout 4 especially is enjoying a resurgence of interest after the announcement of an upcoming next-gen update from developers Bethesda. So, Fallout 4 mods are a hot topic and we’re here to help you sift through the thousands available to find the best.

Whether you’re a returning player or you’re diving in for the first time, the rumors are true: Bethesda games are better with mods. Mods are fan-made additions to a game and have a huge range of scope. Some are tiny tweaks such as updating the textures on in-game signage to an easier-to-read font. Some are huge cosmetic overhauls that totally alter the way a game looks. Some are gameplay changes like making combat harder or adding a hardcore mode. Some add in huge new dungeons to explore and quest lines to follow. There’s no limit on what talented modders can do.

Although traditionally limited to PC gamers, Bethesda has made mods available to console gamers via the in-game mod menu. The options available to PlayStation gamers are much more limited due to restrictions imposed by Sony that mean no third-party assets can be uploaded, but there are still some worth grabbing to enhance your experience. Here are our six favorite mods which we selected based on popularity, ones we’ve tried ourselves, and the improvements they bring to the game.

An in-game image from Fallout 4. A game character holds a large two handed gun. They are wearing metal 'power amor' all over their body.

The 6 best Fallout 4 mods

These mods are all available for PlayStation , Xbox , and PC. Some are enhancements that will make the game run better and look nicer, and some change the gameplay completely. Pick and choose your favorites and create the modded Fallout 4 experience that suits you.

Handily, if you’re a console gamer, if you like the look of any of these mods you can log in to Bethesda’s website, favorite them, and then find them more easily on the slightly clunky console interface if you’re logged into the same Bethesda account. If you don’t want to use an external mod manager on the PC you can do the same thing using the built-in modding.

The Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch

egret tours fallout 4

This mod was created by the team that made the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and does a lot of heavy lifting. It fixes hundreds of bugs of all kinds in the game, smoothing out the experience and resolving issues before they break your game. The authors have gone to great lengths to ensure this mod is compatible with as many other mods as possible, and haven’t made any changes beyond the bug fixes. It’s not flashy or exciting, but it should be your first port of call in modding Fallout 4.

Requirements: Base game & all DLC.

  • The Unofficial Fallout Patch on PlayStation
  • The Unofficial Fallout Patch on Xbox
  • The Unofficial Fallout Patch on PC

Better Graphics and Weather

This mod is a stunning example of what a dedicated modder can do to the graphics of a game. As well as making the weather feel realistic and the sunsets and sunrises distinct and beautiful, this mod makes the nighttime feel like nighttime. It’s darker and the lights are more dynamic. The mod also enhances water textures. For an all-around boost to how the game looks, this should be your go-to.

Requirements: there are two versions for each system, one for the DLC and one for the base game.

  • Better Graphics & Weather PS4 base game only or with DLC
  • Better Graphics & Weather Xbox base game only or with DLC
  • Better Graphics & Weather PC base game only or with DLC

Immersive Fallout

This is an ultra-realism mod that tweaks several mechanics so the game feels more lifelike. Humans move much more slowly, especially when sneaking. Aiming is slower. Power Armor is much heavier. Creatures are much faster and more deadly. The weapon recoil has been redesigned too. If you’re ready for a more challenging Fallout 4 experience, this mod is not to be missed.

  • Immersive Fallout PS4 base game only or with DLC
  • Immersive Fallout Xbox base game only or with DLC
  • Immersive Fallout PC base game only or with DLC

OCDecorator

egret tours fallout 4

This mod is for you builders out there. Do you long to give your settlements little touches that make them feel like home? This mod turns every item into a place-able object in the Workshop menu. They can’t be knocked over by settlers, companions, or players, making for a satisfyingly permanent decorating experience. Adding tons of decor objects in this way can cause a little bit of FPS loss but this will only affect areas with many items. Get out there and create the Wasteland of your dreams.

Requirements: various versions are available

  • OCDecorator on PlayStation base game only or with DLC (DLC version is an add-on and requires the base game version to work)
  • OCDecorator on Xbox base game only or with DLC (DLC version is an add-on and requires the base game version to work)
  • OCDecorator on PC (not available through the Bethesda interface)

Integrated Commonwealth

This mod works to integrate elements added by DLCs into the world, making it more cohesive and natural. Food, plants, weapons, and enemies added by the DLC and usually limited to DLC locations now have a (small) chance of being found throughout the Wasteland. This mod makes the DLCs feel like additions to the world rather than added extras.

Requirements: all DLC

  • Integrated Commonwealth on PlayStation
  • Integrated Commonwealth on Xbox
  • Integrated Commonwealth on PC

Liberty Reborn: A Minutemen Overhaul Mod

egret tours fallout 4

If you ever thought the Minutemen were a little underwhelming as a faction, this mod might be for you. It promises to make them worth siding with by giving them better gear and stats, ensuring they level up alongside the player character, and improving the functionality of the flare gun Preston gives you.

Requirements: base game

  • Liberty Reborn on the PS4
  • Liberty Reborn on the Xbox
  • Liberty Reborn on the PC

PC Modding for Fallout 4

If you’re a PC gamer and are willing to get to grips with a third-party modding tool (the most prominent being Nexus Mod Manager, which has seen a surge in traffic since the Fallout TV show was released) there are thousands of options available to you. PC modders are not limited by the same restrictions as console modders. With tools such as the Fallout 4 Script Extender, the things modders can do are increased even further. Nexus Mods has a handy page listing all the mods by their popularity and it’s worth checking out.
