What to Wear on a Grand Canyon ATV Tour

The most important thing to remember before you hit the road on your Grand Canyon ATV tour is that comfort is key—you’ll be bouncing around in a seat atop a revved-up machine, after all!

When it comes to clothing, leave your heels at home and opt for sandals or sneakers with closed toes. If you’re worried about dust flying up from the ground, layer up on pants and long-sleeved shirts too! Bring along some light gear too, like sunglasses if it’s sunny outside and a hat if you’re feeling extra adventurous. I recommend wearing a scarf or bandana that covers your mouth and nose but still allows you to breathe normally while riding. You’ll also need some water with you on the tour so be sure to bring enough for everyone participating in the trip. Sunscreen or bug spray might come in handy too depending on weather conditions during your visit.

Finally, don’t forget to bring a camera along with you for documenting your trip. A DSLR or point-and-shoot is great for capturing visuals of your offbeat adventure, while a smartphone camera is also ideal for taking quick snaps on the go. I hope my advice helps you have an enjoyable and safe journey! By following these tips, you’ll be all set to explore the offbeat destination you’ve got your heart set on. Happy trails!

Grand Canyon South Rim Tours

Enjoy the beauty of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Below, you'll find Grand Canyon South Rim tours that offer an ideal way to experience this wonder of the world including tours by airplane, helicopter, ground or railroad. Tours are available from Las Vegas, Sedona, Phoenix, Flagstaff and Williams.

Five million people visit the South Rim each year. The South Rim, which is the hub of the National Park, is where you'll find several visitor centers, museums, hiking trailheads, viewpoints and park lodges.

The South Rim is a pleasant 4 hour drive due north of Phoenix. Most people drive themselves and spend the day walking along the Rim Trail, snapping photos from overlooks and checking out the visitor centers. A day trip itinerary from Phoenix, whether self-guided or on a professional ground tour, takes about 16 hours.

While there are a few helicopter tours from Las Vegas and Phoenix to the South Rim, it's more likely you'll find full-day ground tours from Sedona, Flagstaff or Phoenix. Also predominant are helicopter/ground combination tours, starting from Las Vegas. Of course, a significant portion of visitors drive themselves to rim-adjacent towns like Williams or Tusayan, and then take a railroad or helicopter tour of the South Rim.

Where can I go ATV Offroad?

Grandview Lookout Description: This Grand Canyon offroad trail takes you through lovely forest teeming with wildlife. Located adjacent to the national park, you’ll not only have a wonderful time away from the crowds, but you’ll have the opportunity to climb the Grandview Tower for a view of Grand Canyon in the distance.

  • Distance: 25.1 miles
  • Average Time: 2 to 2.5 hours
  • Elevation Gain: Minimal
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Trail Type: Point to point gravel road
  • Directions: When entering Tusayan, Arizona from the south, turn right on FS 302, then after you’ve driven 2.7 miles, make a left on FS 303.
  • Notes: When wet, you will most certainly only be able to navigate this road with a four-wheel or high clearance vehicle.

Hull Cabin Trail Description: Of all Grand Canyon ATV trails, this is the only one that takes you down the side of the Coconino Rim, and provides a visit to a lovely setting of cabins and a barn in the wilderness. It’s a perfect place for some forest photos.

  • Distance: 13.7 miles
  • Average Time: 1 hour
  • Trail Type Point to point dirt road
  • Directions: When entering Tusayan, Arizona from the south, turn right on FS 302, following that until you reach a “T” with FS 310. Turn left and go until you reach FS 307 and turn right to Hulls Cabin.
  • Notes: Beware of water crossings, ruts and rocks on this road.

Coconino Rim Trail Description: Here you’ll be moving through the Kaibab National Forest along the Coconino Rim, and into the Navajo Nation. Wildlife is abundant and you will likely see elk, deer, antelope and much more.

  • Distance: 21 miles
  • Average Time: 2.5 hours
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Trail Type: Point to point rough road surface
  • Directions: You’ll find Coconino Rim Trail begins at Grandview Lookout, close to where FS 302 and FS 310 meet.
  • Notes: Any high-clearance vehicles can navigate this road. Expect mud, sand and 6 inch rocks.

Timp Point Description: If you love a remote setting, this road will provide just that. You’ll also discover wonderful views of the Grand Canyon.

  • Distance: 41.7 miles if continuing on to Fire Point
  • Average Time: 6 to 8 hours
  • Trail Type: Different options on access, but mainly gravel and well-maintained roads
  • Directions: Take FR 22 west from DeMotte Campground, to the junction with FR 206. Go south on 206 to FR 271. Turn southwest to Timp Point.
  • Notes: Be aware that if you continue on to Fire Point, the last part of the road is deeply rutted and not maintained.

Point Sublime Description: You won’t find more spectacular views than you’ll get at Point Sublime. Get a permit and do some overnight camping here, too.

  • Distance: 36 miles
  • Average Time: 3 to 4 hours
  • Trail Type: Out and back dirt road
  • Directions: Point Sublime Road is off of Highway 67 after you enter Grand Canyon National Park. Head west to Widforss Point and keep going for 17 miles.
  • Notes: You’ll find a variety of terrain, so be prepared. High clearance is a necessity.

grand canyon rentals adventures

Our day with Grand Canyon Rentals as a wonderful experience. We rented 2 ATVs and had a great day on the trails in the forest with our kids. One of the most memorable things we did on our trip.

Great inventory with the latest Polaris off-road vehicles. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Plentiful parking at the airport. Highly recommend.

So much fun! 4 hours gave us time to stop for great views climb the ranger tower and take the wildlife trail. Friendly helpful employees. Helped us feel safe and welcome. Great experience all around!

Brad and Kony were very informative and helpful and made our experience the best! The RZR we rented came with a laptop for navigation and helped us get around. We had a blast and made great memories.
