Jungle Park Tenerife - Our impressions, tickets and how to get there

Las Aguilas Jungle Park is one of the 2 major zoological parks in Tenerife and it is situated in the south of the island, in the Arona municipality. The name Las Aguilas translated to The Eagles, since the park has a brilliant outdoor show with birds of prey.

We visited the in December and it was very easy to reach the park from Los Cristianos.

How to get to Jungle Park

• Coordinates: 28º 04′ 83″ N 16º 41′ 67″ W

By car you can arrive very quickly from Los Cristianos or Playa de las Americas, and there is a large car park available for visitors.

There is also a free shuttle bus from Las Americas and Los Cristianos to Jungle Park and you can find the schedule on their website.

Attractions and shows: Birds of Prey Show, Exotic Birds Show and Sea Lions Show

The park has many species of animals, including big cats, birds or prey, lemurs, primates and penguins.

There are 3 shows available at the park and you should try to include all of them in your visit.

The parrot show is held in an outside location, unlike other similar shows you can see in other parks in the Canary Islands.

The show is interactive and the kids will get a chance to feed some of the birds.

We liked the exotic birds show from Jungle Park because everything happens outside and the keepers seem to be extremely invested in everything they do. Or at least this is how it was when we visited, which was a few years ago.

Loro Parque and Oasis Park (Fuerteventura) also have similar parrot shows, but these happen indoors.

The bird of prey show is also outside and here again, we have to remark the people involved. It seemed to us that this is more than a job, that there was a genuine relation between man and bird.

We were really impressed by both shows and you shouldn't miss them either if you decide to visit.

You will see many birds of prey inside the park aside from the ones in the show, which is not something you see in most Zoos in Europe.

There is a covered restaurant close to the exotic birds show, so you can have lunch and also enjoy the show if you prefer. The food was good and cheap, but not many choices. We paid 7 or 8 Euros for half grilled chicken with french fries.

The latest show added by the park is the Sea Lions Show , in a beautiful auditorium that fits the park's theme.

What else to see at Jungle Park

When we visited we had the chance to see a white tiger, one of the few left in the world, but now their website says they have 2 white lions from South Africa.

We also enjoyed the penguin area. They were very friendly and playful when we visited and it was a pleasure to watch.

Aside from the animals and the shows you can also enjoy the walk through the park, which has a lot of vegetation and flowers specific to the Canary Islands.

On their website, it says that Jungle Park Tenerife is the only authentic jungle with wild vegetation in Europe.

They have more than 300 animals from around 100 different species from all over the World including felines, primates, reptiles and various species of birds.

The walk itself can become a fun adventure if you choose to walk on all the suspended bridges available in the park. Some of them can be avoided if you prefer, but they part of the experience. For safety reasons, one useful tip would be to wear comfortable, closed shoes, not flip flops.

There is also a bob track that crosses through the park, but you have to pay a separate fee to use it. We got to it pretty late, about 30 minutes before closing time, so we didn't get to try it, but it seemed pretty awesome.

Also known as Jungle Park , the P arque Aguilas del Teide is located minutes from Los Cristianos, in Southern Tenerife. This is the only tropical forest in Europe to be home to more than 300 animal species from all over the 5 continents, in around 75,000 m² of jungle.

This wonderful zoological park will make you feel as if you were right in the middle of the jungle, thanks to its various hiking paths with tunnels, suspension bridges, waterfalls and caves.

You will be surrounded by a large variety of animal species such as primates, felines, birds of prey, penguins, hippopotamus, reptiles, exotic birds. The white tigers and white lions truly are the highlight of your visit to the park. If you never had the opportunity to see them, don’t miss it!

It was quite affordable compared to the cruise ship excursion offerings, plus my husband and I had the tour guide all to ourselves instead of dealing with buses and coaches and lots of people. Gregory was very knowledgeable with perfect English and actually speaks several languages. He had deep knowledge of cultural, geological, historical, and many other aspects of the Canaries. He was very enjoyable. He listened attentively to what we wanted to see, and what we wanted to avoid, and took us on a very amazing tour of almost the entire island. He had car trouble that morning and had to go rent a car, but was still on time to pick us up and seem pretty relaxed about the whole situation that that must’ve been stressful. When my brother and I booked a cruise to return to Tenerife this November, we immediately contacted Gregory. We were a party of 5 who wanted to see architecture, street murals, and island sights. A 6-hour tour turned into 8 (no extra cost) after 1 of the group wanted to see the Tenerife Air Disaster memorial, which he gladly accommodated. You absolutely cannot go wrong with Gregory. We (2 adults and 2 children) booked the 8 hour Tenerife Magic Circle Private Tour online and Gregory called us to confirm within 5 minutes. On the day, he picked us up on time and started the tour around the island. Gregory is very kind, patient, down to earth, respectful and extremely knowledgeable. It was great listening to his stories of the island whilst showing us around. Tenerife is a fantastic island with so many things to see and do. Not only does Gregory know everything there is to know where he takes you, he knows all the good sweet spots. Going on a tour with Gregory was like going with a good old friend. I can not vouch enough for how good, professional and friendly he is! You will not feel any rush or stress going with him, you will have the chance to take pictures of views you most probably never thought existed on the island. He was always on time, very kind, respectful, down to earth and knowledgeable. He is very easy to talk to and we felt very safe with him. He knew a lot about the island and shared with us interesting stories which we really appreciated. He knew the best places to eat while we were exploring the island and always asked our group if we needed a snack or bathroom break. He introduced us to barraquitos- the traditional Canarian coffee drink, which was amazing. He also took us to a beautiful beachfront restaurant where we enjoyed fresh seafood and watched the local surfers catch some waves. On the last day, he took us to a volcanic vineyard on the way back from Mount Teide which offered one of the best wines we’ve ever had and the most delicious Canarian traditional meal. We felt very at home with Gregory and the people he’s introduced us to. He always made sure we were comfortable and provided us with bottles of water daily. He also suggested quick, yet breathtaking hikes throughout the trip and took incredible photos of our group. He always greeted us with a smile. We are a family from the Netherlands travelling with a toddler. We wanted to see the main highlights of the Island of Tenerife in one day. We did not want to hire our own car as we wanted to spent our time caring for our toddler in combination with enjoying the beautiful Tenerife. We thoroughly enjoyed the amazing day. On a beach during one of the stops our toddler was digging for pirate treasure and proudly posed for an anchor for which she stated it must have belonged to a pirate ship. We had so much more fun than we would have had with a big bus tour group which is not convenient when travelling with a toddler. Note there are also trips of less hours a day available if you think the Grand Tour of 12 to 14 hours is too long for you. Gregory drove safely while enthousiastically telling us interesting stories about Tenerife. He was open and frankly fun to spent the day with us in his easy-going and respective manner. We saw all the places in the itinerary and a lot more. Also we had a lovely lunch in a local restaurant with a relaxing garden (lovely for the little one to run around in) where we saw a local wedding party and ate local fish. Beautiful sunset right from a beach and then onto the mountain top. We have a feeling that we had a good view of beautiful Tenerife and highly recommend Gregory as a Guide/Driver. My husband and I felt like we got to see virtually every corner of Tenerife with our great guide/driver/translator/companion, Gregory! It was a truly incredible way to see all the key places and learn so much about the island while enjoying the ride in a comfortable and clean vehicle. He is truly passionate about the island and is incredibly knowledgeable. From the time in Mount Teide National Park, seeing some of the oldest and most unique trees (Canarian Pine and Dragon trees), to take some short and enjoyable hikes through Anaga and other small villages, and stopping just the right amount for breaks and food/drink, it was a priceless experience! Super professional, and kind especially when our son became poorly on the tour. Nothing was too much for Gregory. We had a luxurious drive from PDLA to loro parque then onto mt tiede. We have been to Mt Tiede many times before but with larger bus tour companies and we experienced a completely different experience this time. We saw the other side of the Volcano and its history. The entire day was phenomenal. We were collected from our hotel at 8am and were back by 10pm. Gregory is a 1 man operation that charges a little more than some for a private tour, but his private tour is worth every penny. You get what you pay for. Most tour buses- especially ship tours- make 2 stops on a tour-Mount Teide and Gofo Rocks. To be honest, these 2 attractions are both excellent and they will give the tourist and excellent memory. Our Tennerife tour included 4 Mt Teide related stops, the Gofo Rocks and 1 additional plate tectonic related stop (more later) AND 4 villages PLUS a lunch break with Canarian local food. MT TEIDE: This is the 3rd largest volcano in the world. The volcano is so tall and the air is so pure that there are world class planetarium observatories located on the summit. The area is certified as an International Dark Skt Reserve by the Internationl Dark-Sky Association (IDA). Awesome photo ops were given. When you only have 6 pax in a tour, stopping for pictures is a snap (pun intended). The crater rim of this huge volcano is amazing- it is 11 miles across. It just goes on and on. ADDED BONUS: 3 extra stops for great photo ops of the volcanic region. GOFO ROCKS: A very interesting natural rock formation is located within the crater of this huge volcano. This formation is Gofo Rocks. The rock outcrop formation is TECTONIC and NOT VOLCANIC. 2 tectonic plates collide inside the crater, and the result is the Gofo Rocks. ADDED BONUS: There is another area at high elevation near the summit of a crater rim mountain peak where the tectonic plates also meet. This stop was amazing because the air temperatures for the wind rising up the opposing slopes of the peak are different, and clouds are created when the air flows meet (like cloud forests in Costa Rica). On one side of the peak it is perpetually moist and ferns grow on the steep walls of the arête; the other side has dry air, so it is desert like, with a lot of cactus. CANDELARIA VILLAGE with 10 KINGS STATUES and CHURCH: This was an added bonus stop on the tour. The original aboriginal inhabitants of the island were called Guanches. They were literally stone age tribes. There were a total of 9 tribes-each with a king- together with an overall ruling king. The Spanish arrived and for reasons unknown rounded up all of the tribes and killed them all, so there are no surviving blood lines from the original settlers. Candelaria has statues commemorating each of 10 kings that line the perimeter of a plaza that also has a nice photo op of a church. 3 ADDITIONAL VILLAGES: We drove through 3 additional villages that had quaint or historical significance. Jungle Park and Aqualand tickets information

• It can sometimes be very busy at the Aqualand and Jungle Park ticket office. If you have ordered your ticket in advance you will not have to stand in this line and you can enter the parks faster. The tickets you book via Club Canary also give you access to the entire park, including the animal shows.
• Two park ticket will have the same date on the ticket as the day of your purchase. This is not the date that you must visit the park. But from this date your ticket is valid for a period of 90 days. You may choose the day and time of your visit as you like and you do not have to inform us before.
• Jungle park is open year-round from 10:00 until 17:30.
• Aqualand is open year-round from 10:00 until 17:00.

Jungle Park and Aqualand Tenerife policy:

• Smoking: Only allowed in special areas.
• Swimwear: You must wear swimwear for all rides at Aqualand.
• Animals: Please don’t feed the animals, unless a staff member says it’s okay.
• Behavior: If someone is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they will need to leave.
• Children: An adult must always watch over children.
• Ticket Cancellation: You can cancel your Jungle Park Aqualand Tenerife combi ticket at Club Canary without any cost up to 5 days before your visit. After this time, cancellation or refund is not possible. Once you visit one park, you can’t cancel the ticket for the second park.
