Kwik Trip location coming to South Beloit

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - If you’ve driven through Wisconsin, chances are you’ve made a stop at one of the state’s more than 400 Kwik Trips. But now, the company plans to open a convenience store under the name “Kwik Star” in the stateline, and visiting will only be a quick trip to South Beloit.

“When we were just friends, and we’ve been friends for about 17 years,” said Stephanie Ward. “Just, anytime we hang out we’d end up going.”

Stephanie Ward says aside from turning her longtime friend, Ben, into a fiance, not much as changed in the two’s relationship. Especially, their love for Kwik Trip.

“To get ice cream or I mean anything, it was always Kwik Trip,” said Ward. “We love it.”

Instead of traveling to the land of cheese to make a stop at the beloved Kwik Trip, the Rockton couple will soon only have to make a quick trip. The convenience store is expanding to South Beloit, under the name “Kwik Star”, down the street from Ward’s workplace of Camping World.

“I heard people saying, oh ‘its a Kwik Star it’s not going to be the same’, oh it’s going to be the same,” said Ward.

South Beloit Mayor Tom Fitzgerald says Kwik Trip officials reached out to the city around two years ago with hopes of opening a location near Interstate 90. The city settled on a $2.2 million dollar sales and property tax rebate offer, which either expires in ten years, or if the business is able to pay it back before.

“A corporation like Kwik Trip, they’ve already studied it long before they come to us,” said Fitzgerald. “Kwik Trip didn’t want anyone to know about it, they wanted to keep it quiet.”

Opening soon, isn’t an understatement. Fitzgerald says the company’s hope is to start construction by next year in 2023, and he expects them to finish it quickly. So the next time Stephanie and her fiance will hear Kwik Trip’s infamous version of “goodbye” (see you next time), it will be just down the street from work. “All I have to do is drive up the road, I’m super excited,” said Ward.

The Kwik Star location will be right across from the Fasmart gas station on Manchester Rd, in South Beloit near I-90. It will mark the third across Illinois, with the other two in Rochelle and Dixon.

Beloit woman accused of starting fire at Kwik Trip in Beloit

A Beloit woman facing an arson charge in connection with a fire at the gas station where she was working may be eligible to have her felony arson charge reduced, if she successfully completes a program.

36-year-old Brandi Vazquez-Tello is accused of starting a fire on the baby-changing table inside one of the men’s bathroom stalls at the Beloit Kwik Trip on October 6th, 2023.

At her initial appearance in Rock County Court Tuesday morning Court Commissioner Jack Hoag ordered a $1000 signature bond and did allow Vazquez-Tello to possess a lighter due to the fact that she is a cigarette smoker.

According to the criminal complaint, Vazquez-Tello has been a witness in several prior suspected arsons, and was a suspect in an arson initiated in a Mobil Gas Station bathroom where she worked at the time.

Town board allows Kwik Trip project, land trade to move forward

TOWN OF BELOIT—Drivers fueling their vehicles in the 900 block of East Inman Parkway will soon have more access to grocery items and a new car wash.

The Town Board approved two separate conditional use permits Monday for Kwik Trip to purchase the Paradise Guitars building at 921 E. Inman Parkway. Paradise Guitar, and the neighboring Stop N’ Go gas station will become the site for the new Kwik Trip.

Kwik Trip discontinues bagged milk after more than 40 years

Over the year it’s seen a significant decline in sales of bagged milk compared to milk in jugs.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WBAY) - Kwik Trip convenience stores won’t be as convenient for buyers of bagged milk. The company announced it’ll stop selling Nature’s Touch bagged milk after carrying the product for more than 40 years in its stores.

Kwik Trip saw a significant decline in sales of bagged milk compared to milk in jugs.

“This is an end to a product that was associated with the Kwik Trip brand for many years, but after evaluating the need and cost for new equipment to replace our antiquated bagged milk equipment, and the decreased customer demand, we made the tough decision to discontinue Nature’s Touch milk in the bag,” John Hughes, Kwik Trip’s vice president of external relations, said.

McHugh said the marketing department has contacted groups who used special promotional coupons for bagged milk and is offering solutions with Kwik Trip’s other milk products. Kwik Trip CEO Scott Zietlow says the company will focus on items that “resonate more strongly with our guests.”

Bagged milk will disappear from stores beginning in May.

I purchased a product that had a defect, and informed the company. The manager (Matt) was quick to respond, and polite. I received another product to replace my defective one (didn't even have to return the original). Great prices, service, and going beyond to help a customer (like mentioned above) is why I will continue to give Kwik Trip my business.

Nastiest fried chicken you can eat! Employees soil the chicken on purpose and are not hygienic, so greasy it gives diarrhea after eating it.

This review is for the N. Town Rd. location. I stopped in quick on a busy morning this past week for a fuel and asked the gentleman behind the counter about specifics related to the Kwik Trip card and how points are applied if you pre-pay for fuel. Words cannot express how sincere this employee was about getting the answers to my question met. Even in the midst of endless customers in que, he took the time to explain everything to me with kindness. That interaction made the rest of my day seem lighter. Kwik Trip is a big part of culture here in town and employees like this are what makes it what it is. Thank you again Nathen for taking the time.

Their bathrooms are always clean I like that the never cared when I didn't wear a stupid pointless mask in their stores. They have their own brand of chocolate milk that's amazing and second to none. They always have a good selection of food.

I have to admit...I love Kwik Trips, I adore Kwik Trips, I am blood buddies with Kwik Trip.....yes, I love it that much :) A recent stop at this Kwik Trip proved to reiterate my love affair with this petroleum and snack chain. My recent trip started with the friendliest staff ever, was reinforced with the spotless bathroom, and culminated in an uber positive coffee experience (complete with a coffee lid machine that handed me a lid and an alarm that alerted the Kwik Trip staff that they needed to brew a fresh pot of French Roast). I am almost embarrassed to gush this much about a gas station...but it is just THAT good!
