How to Access the Download Manager in Safari for iOS

With iOS 13, Apple has brought a similar feature to the mobile version of its Safari browser in the form of the Download Manager. Now, when you choose to download a file, such as an image or document, a little download icon is displayed in the top right corner of the screen.

You can tap the icon to check the status of your downloads, and tapping the magnifying glass next to a file will open its folder location, whether that's on your device or in the cloud.

Finding your downloaded files on iPhone can be a bit challenging since the Downloads button in Safari only appears when downloading files. By default, Safari is set up so that this list will be cleared out after one day. This does not remove the downloaded file from your phone, but it will remove the downloads list from Safari. If you haven’t downloaded anything else in the last day, you likely won’t see it here. To access all of your downloads, you’ll need to head over to the Files app.

If you haven’t downloaded anything recently or if you use another web browser, you can access your downloads in the Files app. But first, you need to check your Safari settings to find out if your Downloads folder is stored on your iPhone or in iCloud:

Regardless of where your downloaded files are stored, you will be able to access them from the Files app.

Instead of downloading using the Share Sheet, you can simply hold and press the link or image and then select Download Linked File.

Pause or Resume the download

To pause a download, tap the Download button → select Downloads → tap the X icon next to the downloading file. And to resume, simply tap the refresh icon.

The first order of business after downloading a file from Safari is to check where your files are downloaded. To do so, tap the download icon or AA icon from the status bar → select download → tap the search icon next to the downloaded file.

By default, Safari download manager on iPhone stores the files in the Download folder in the Files app. So, to see your downloaded files, go to Files → Browse → Downloads.

Alternatively, to confirm or to customize the Safari download location , you can go to Settings → Safari → Downloads. Notably, if you prefer saving downloaded files to a different location, simply select a preferred option.

Clear Download History

Downloading files from Safari on your iPhone can be a useful feature, whether it’s a document, image, or other content. However, locating and managing these downloads may not always be straightforward.

In this guide, we’ll show you two different methods to view Safari downloads on your iPhone: directly from the browser and using the Files app.

Method 1: Viewing Safari Downloads from the Browser

• Access a Webpage: Start by opening the Safari browser on your iPhone and visiting a webpage from which you intend to download content.
• Download Content: Navigate to a page or file that you wish to download. When you tap on a downloadable item, a dialog box will appear, asking if you want to download the content. Confirm the download.
• Contextual Menu: Once the download starts, look for the contextual menu, which appears in the search bar. It’s represented by an icon that resembles two letter ‘A’s.
• Access Downloads: Tap on the contextual menu icon, and a drop-down bar will appear with various options. Among these options, you’ll find “Downloads.” Select it to view all the files you’ve downloaded during the current browsing session.

Knowing how to find your downloads folder on iPhone will come in useful constantly. Whenever you download something from a website or email, it’ll go to the downloads folder, but Apple don’t exactly make it obvious where that is.

Your downloads automatically go to the Downloads folder within the Files app. Here, we’ll show you how to find them, as well as how to change the download location and a few other things you can do with files once you’ve found them.

Without further ado, here’s how to find your downloads folder on iPhone.

There are two possible locations for downloaded files: your iPhone itself or Apple's cloud storage service, iCloud. By default, they will end up in iCloud Drive but you can choose where downloaded files go so let's explore that option first.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone. Now scroll down and tap Safari .

2. As you will see, the Downloads location is set to iCloud Drive. To change this, simply tap Downloads .

3. You can now choose On My iPhone . Once you've done that, you can exit the Settings app .

When you download files, they will be sent to the location of your choice. If you haven't set a preference, then they will go into iCloud Drive but the method of finding those downloads either way remains the same. Let's explore how to find your downloads folder on iPhone.

1. Downloads are found within the Files app so your first step is to launch it. Tap the Files app icon on your iPhone homescreen. The quickest way to find it is to pull down on the screen to call upon Spotlight and type “files” into the search box. Tap the Files app icon when it appears.

2. There are now two methods of reaching your downloads folder. You can either tap iCloud Drive or tap On My iPhone (but only do the latter if you added it by following Choose a download location on iPhone above).

You can also tap Downloads under Favourites . If you only see one Downloads option, then tapping will take you to iCloud Drive. If you see two Downloads options, then the other will take you to your iPhone's storage.

3. Now simply tap the Downloads folder . You will be told how many items it contains.

4. And there you go: if you have any downloads in the folder, then you will now be able to see them all. You can tap any of the folders to see the downloads .

5. If you long-press on a folder you will be presented with lots of options. Files can be renamed, tagged, copied, moved, shared and deleted for example. If a file is in iCloud Drive, you can also save it to your iPhone – just select Download Now .

If you're feeling like a bit of a power user, you might want to speed up your access to the Downloads folder by adding a home screen shortcut. There's no way to do this natively, but you can create a shortcut using (you guessed it) the Shortcuts app. Here's how.

1.   Launch the Shortcuts app . The quickest way to find it is to  pull down on the screen  to call upon Spotlight and  type “shortcuts”  into the search box.  Tap the Shortcuts app icon  when it appears.

2.   Tap +  in the top right corner of the screen. 

3.  Now  select Add Action .

4.  In the menu which appears,  select the Apps tab  and  tap Files .

5.  Now, in the Files menu, you will need to  tap Folder .

6.  As you will see, Folder is now included as an action but you need to specify exactly which Folder you want to work with. To do this,  tap Folder .

7.  You can now browse the Folders in the Files app — you're looking for Downloads, either in iCloud Drive or on your iPhone.  Tap Downloads  when you find it and  tap Open  in the top-right corner.

8.  You will see that Downloads is included as an action. So far so good. The next step is to  tap X  in the slide-up menu at the bottom of the screen then  tap search for apps and actions .

9. Type Open File . Then  select Open File  from the results.

10.  Now the shortcut is taking shape.  Tap Default App  and  select Files  from the list of options when prompted.

11.  You can now  tap Open File  at the top of the screen,  tap Rename  and  enter Downloads .

12.   Tap Downloads  at the top of the screen to call up the menu once more. This time,  tap Add to Home Screen .

13. All that is now left to do is  tap Add . The icon will appear on your iPhone Homescreen – if you want to move the icon somewhere specific, learn  how to organize your iPhone apps in seconds .

While surfing the web or accessing our email, we tend to download files on our iPhone and iPad. Initially, it all looks good. Eventually, with the files piling one after another, you start feeling the need to manage Safari downloads.

But wait… don’t rush to a third-party download manager. Managing your download, that too in a separate file manager app, is a tricky and daunting business. So, here’s good news, with iOS 13 and the changes made to Safari, you can manage your chaos (or should I say Downloads?) easily!

How to download files in Safari on iPhone

• Pause/Resume/Cancel your downloads in Safari

• Locate the file/item you want to download and tap it.
• Confirm download when prompted through the popup window.

Note : There’s also an alternate way to access your downloads. You can go to the Files application and select Downloads .

How to manage your downloads in Safari on the iPhone

Pause/resume/cancel your downloads in safari.

• Tap the download icon at the top right corner of Safari.
• Tap the ‘X’ symbol to pause or cancel your download.

Note : You can directly reach the downloaded location of a file by tapping the ‘ Search ‘ icon next to the file name.

• In the Settings app, tap Safari and select Downloads .

Note : iCloud Drive will let your downloads be available across all connected devices, whereas the iPhone/iPad option will only save the file to the respective device.

However, if you want to delete the file permanently, there are two ways to do it.

• Tap the arrow icon and swipe left the file you want to delete.

You can also choose to auto-delete files.

• Open the Settings app and tap Safari .

• Here, you have three options : After one day, Upon Successful Download, or Manually.

From time to time, we all download files to our iPhones. These might be PDFs, word documents, images, or videos. You name it.

But where do all these files go on an iPhone? This guide will help you find any content you've downloaded from the internet to your iPhone.

Find Downloaded Images in the Photos App on Your iPhone

Are you having trouble finding an image file you recently downloaded on your iPhone? Don't beat yourself up. You only need to know the right location to search for it. Generally, your iPhone will store files and photos in a different location.

To find downloaded photos on your iPhone, follow these steps:

• Locate and launch the Photos app.
• Select Library from the bottom menu. You should see your recently downloaded photo at the bottom. You may need to tap All Photos if it doesn't show up.
• If you downloaded the image some days back, scroll up your gallery to find it.

Find Downloaded Files in the Files App on Your iPhone

If you can't see the image inside the Photos app, chances are you didn't save it there or it's in an unsupported format. Usually, when you download a photo on your iPhone, you can choose to Save to Photos or Save to Files. The former means your iPhone will instantly save images to the Photos app.

However, if you saved it to the Files app, you'll need to follow a different set of steps. It doesn't matter whether you changed your iPhone's default browser or not. Your iPhone will store all downloaded files in the Files app.

So, here's what you need to do to find your Safari or other browser downloads:

• Launch the Files app.
• Tap Browse at the bottom (if you're not taken to the page automatically).
• Next, select iCloud Drive under Locations .
• Select Downloads .

Inside the Downloads folder, you'll find all your saved files. However, if you opted to save downloaded files on your iPhone's storage instead of iCloud, you need to look elsewhere.

Once in the Files app, go to Browse and select On My iPhone instead of iCloud Drive . Now, select Downloads to see your downloaded files.

What If Your Files Aren't in the Downloads Folder?

You won't find your downloads in the Downloads folder if you no longer use the default Safari storage location. In the recent versions of iOS, Apple lets you choose a default download location for your Safari downloads.

If you changed your default download location and can't remember, go to Settings > Safari and select Downloads under General . You should see your current download location.

If you use a third-party browser, you still have alternative ways to find your downloads. If you know the exact name of your file, you don't need to go through these hoops.

Directly on your iPhone Home Screen, swipe down from the middle of the screen to launch Spotlight search. Type the file name, and you'll see all the matching results across your iPhone.

Safari's download manager is a hidden new feature in the  iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 updates. If you're going about your day, browsing the web, you probably won't be aware of the feature. Instead, it comes up when you tap on a download link.

If you want to stop a download at any time, simply tap on the "X" button.

Once the download is finished, tap on the file to preview it. If you've downloaded a media file, image, or a PDF, you'll be able to see it in the preview window.

You can then share the file to any app. Tap on the "Share" button from the bottom-left corner.

Press the "Search" icon next to the filename in the Downloads section to open the file.

Once you open the file in the Files app, you can tap and hold on the file to reveal the menu.

From here, tap on "Delete" to delete the file.

By default, the downloaded files are saved to the Downloads folder in iCloud Drive in the Files app. This is a great option if you have a paid iCloud storage plan  because it allows your downloaded files to instantly sync across all your devices.

But if you're on the free, 5GB tier, you might not have space for storing large files.

Thankfully, you can change the default location to local storage. Open the "Settings" app and go to Safari > Downloads. If you can't find the browser on your phone, try using Apple's Spotlight search to locate it.

Here, switch the selection to "On My iPhone" or "On My iPad" depending on your device.

By default, Safari will pick the "Downloads" folder. You can change this by tapping on the "Other" option to select any folder from the local storage (or from a cloud storage option).

The new download manager in Safari is exclusive to iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and above. If you haven't updated to the latest OS (which you should), or if you're in a situation where you can't update, here's a workaround for you.

Try using the free Documents 5 app by Readdle . It's an all-in-one browser and file manager app.

Open the Documents 5 app and tap on the "Browser" button in the bottom-right corner to switch to the browser mode.

Now, navigate to the page with the download link and tap on it. From the next screen, select the folder where you want to download the file and tap on "Done."

The download will now start. You can tap on the "Downloads" tab to view all downloads.

Tap on the "Files" button from the bottom-left corner to switch to the file manager. From here, tap on the "Downloads" folder to see your downloaded file. You can tap on the download to preview it in the app. Tap on the "Menu" button to view options for opening the file in another app.

Where Do Downloads Go in Safari on iPhone or iPad?

While browsing the web using Safari on your iPhone or iPad, you can download images, documents or PDFs by tapping links on websites. When you tap a link, a popup will appear saying, “Do you want to download ‘file.name’?” When you tap the Download option, the item will be downloaded onto your iPhone or iPad, and it will be saved to your default download location, which you can change.

It appears that some users are having trouble locating downloaded files. So how can you find them? Where is the Downloads folder?

Where to find Downloads in Safari

You can easily see the items that you have downloaded by tapping the AA icon at the left end of the Smart Search field in Safari and selecting Downloads, as you can see in the screenshot below. If you do not see the Downloads option, it means that your download list is empty. Depending on your settings, your list may be emptied automatically by Safari.

You may also notice a blue arrow. This blue arrow may appear next to the AA icon. This blue arrow icon indicates that you have recently downloaded an item.

As explained above, you can access the downloaded items in Safari. After you open Downloads, you can share, save, AirDrop, print or annotate the downloaded item. This is called the Downloads list. By default, this list will be emptied after one day. Note that just items in the list will be removed. Your downloaded file will still exist somewhere on your iPhone. There are a few settings you can customize.

Where are downloaded files saved on your iPhone or iPad?

By default, downloaded items will be saved in the Downloads folder in the Files app. This folder can be located in either iCloud Drive or On My iPhone. You can also change the location. Here is how:

• Open Settings .
• Tap Safari .
• Tap Downloads .
• iCloud Drive – Downloads. If you select this option, your downloaded items will be available on your other devices too, if you are signed in with the same Apple ID.
• On My iPhone or iPad – Downloads. If you select this option, your downloaded items will only be stored on your iPhone or iPad.
• Or tap Other to select another location of your choosing in iCloud or on your device.

How to customize when items are removed from the Downloads list

By default, Safari will remove an item from the list after one day. However, you can change this. Here is how:

• Tap Remove Download List Items .
• After one day : Your list will be cleared after one day.
• Upon successful download : This will make it so there will be no Downloads list in Safari. Any item you download will directly go to the download folder.
• Manually : This will make it so the list will stay intact unless you clear it. To clear it, open the Downloads List (tap AA, then Downloads in Safari), then tap Clear to delete all. If you want to delete individual items, swipe left and tap Delete.

Are you trying to find files saved to your iPhone? Downloaded files—such as documents, PDFs, large images, and more—will usually go to the "Files" app on your iPhone unless you designated a different location. Additionally, saved pictures can usually be found in the Photos app, and music can be found in the Music app. Regardless of the file type, this wikiHow will show you how to find and access all files downloaded on your iPhone.

Things You Should Know

• Open the "Files" app and tap "Browse" → "On My iPhone" → "Downloads". Be sure to check the "iCloud" folder or other synced locations.
• Open the Photos app and tap "Recents". Photos saved via "Add to Photos" should appear at the bottom.
• To find downloaded music, open the Music app. Tap "Library" and then "Downloaded".

• When you tap the Save to Files option on a file, you're prompted to choose a saving location. Depending on your settings, you'll have the option to save to On My iPhone , iCloud Drive , and possibly other cloud drives. If you downloaded a file this way, you'll find it in the Files app.

How to install & set up AltStore to sideload apps on iPhone or iPad

So you’ve decided that you want to learn more about AltStore , a sideloading application for iPhones and iPads that lets you install .ipa files (raw iPhone application files) on your device with your own Apple ID . Well, you’ve come to the right place.

In this tutorial, we’ll not only talk about how AltStore works, but we’ll show you how to install it and get things set up so that you can effortlessly sideload apps on your iPhone or iPad in the future using this handy utility.

What is AltStore?

If you’ve never heard of AltStore before, it’s essentially on one of the most popular sideloading methods for iPhones and iPads. This means that you can acquire almost any .ipa file (a raw iPhone application file) and install it on your iPhone or iPad with this utility without using Apple’s App Store .

Hint: That’s why it’s called AltStore (or Alternative Store).

AltStore is a two-part application. While the AltStore application resides on your iPhone or iPad, ready to accept .ipa files at any moment, you also have another program installed on your macOS or Windows computer called AltServer.

AltServer is what allows you to install AltStore onto your iPhone or iPad. Once installed, you can use AltStore to sideload .ipa files for at least seven days using only your Apple ID. When those seven days are up, you must re-sign them – a relatively easy task, albeit sometimes inconvenient.

AltStore itself promotes certain apps and repositories where you can get apps from. These are most notably game emulator apps and stuff of that nature; however, most users will source their own .ipa files from trusted app developers and sideload those.

A lot of times, but not all the time, people will use AltStore to sideload jailbreak applications or other hacks on their iPhone or iPad. These applications are used to exploit the device so that a jailbreak can be installed. Examples of this include Dopamine , XinaA15 , Taurine , and unc0ver , just to name a few.

There’s a lot you can do with AltStore, which makes it a popular choice. Fortunately, this tutorial will cover how to install and set up AltStore on macOS so that you’re ready to sideload apps whenever you’re ready to.

How to install AltStore

Installing AltStore on your iPhone or iPad is an easy process that anyone can do. We’ll walk you through the steps required below:

1) Visit the following URL in the Safari web browser:

2) Click on the Download button under AltServer macOS (you would use the button for Windows if installing this on a Windows PC).

3) Click the Allow button in the prompt to allow Downloads if you get it:

4) Go to your Downloads folder to find the downloaded AltServer file and drag it into your Applications folder to install:

5) Go to your Applications folder and double-click on AltServer :

6) In the next pop-up, click the Open button:

7) Then, in the next pop-up, click the Check Automatically button:

8) Connect the iPhone or iPad that you wish to install AltStore on via a MFi-certified Lightning cable.

9) If prompted to allow the accessory to connect, click the Allow button:

Note: You may not see the aforementioned pop-up if you have connected this device to your computer previously.

10) Go to Finder and select your device in the side bar:

13) On your device, tap the Trust button in the pop-up:

Note: You may not see this step if your iPhone is already trusted by your computer, and vice-versa. If so, just move to the next step.

14) Enter your passcode to confirm your selection:

15) With all devices now trusted, click the AltServer icon in your Mac’s Menu Bar and navigate to: Install AltStore… → [Your Device Name] :

16) Enter your Apple ID email and password in the following prompt, then click the Install button:

Note: We understand there may be some hesitancy to enter your credentials, but this is safe and is only shared with Apple to authenticate your Apple ID’s free developer status. You may create a burner Apple ID specifically for AltStore if you want to, but it isn’t necessary.

17) AltStore will appear on your Home Screen in a few short moments, but don’t launch it yet. Instead, launch the Settings app and navigate to: Privacy & Security → Developer Mode :

18) Toggle on the Developer Mode switch:

19) In the pop-up, tap the Restart button.

Note: Your device will reboot. When it starts back up, move on to the next step.

20) In the pop-up that appears, tap the Turn On button:

21) Enter your passcode to confirm enabling Developer Mode.

22) After Developer Mode is turned on, launch the Settings app again and navigate to: General → VPN & Device Management → [Your Apple ID] :

23) Tap the Trust [Your Apple ID] button:

24) Tap the Trust button.

I found an amazing new way to use my iPhone 15 Pro Max

When Apple announced the iPhone 15 Pro series last September, there was one feature I was more excited about than anything else: the Action button. Gone was the useless ring/silent slider. In its place was a button we could customize to our exact liking.

Supercharging the Action button

The simplest way to browse the web, who needs an ai gadget when you have this.

I’ve been using the Action button on my iPhone 15 Pro Max ever since I got it, and for the last few months, it’s been programmed to open the camera app. It’s convenient, but it’s also nothing particularly exciting. Recently, though, I found a new and unexpected way to use my iPhone’s Action button — and it’s kind of blowing my mind.

So, what happened? It all has to do with Arc Search. Earlier this year, the company behind the popular Arc web browser released Arc Search as a new AI-assisted iPhone browser app.

Arc Search isn’t just another uninspired alternative to Safari or Chrome . You can use it as a “normal” web browser, but its secret sauce is its Browse for Me feature. Instead of spitting out a list of endless Google Search results, Browse for Me analyzes your search results and uses AI to build a mini website with clear and concise answers.

Last week, Arc Search got even more convenient with the launch of a voice search tool. When you open Arc Search, you can now press and hold on the + button to perform a voice search. When you’re done talking, the Arc app automatically searches with the Browse for Me feature, giving you a quick, helpful answer without any typing. And it gets even better. Shortly after Arc Search got its voice feature, the developers also added a Siri Shortcut that automatically launches the voice search tool with just a tap.

As a reminder, Apple lets you configure the Action button to launch any Shortcut you want. In other words, you can set up the Action button to launch Arc Search’s voice tool with the press of a button. That’s precisely what I did to my iPhone 15 Pro Max a few days ago, and it’s been nothing short of magical.

After you download Arc Search, setting up its voice search tool with the Action button is very simple. Open the  Settings  app on your iPhone, select Action Button , and scroll until you find the  Shortcut option. Select the action prompt below to open the Shortcuts page, then Arc Search , and finally Voice Search with Arc .

Once this is done, pressing and holding the Action button activates Arc Search’s voice feature. You press the Action button, speak your question, and Arc Search automatically starts searching once you’re done talking. It’s that simple. Using your voice to browse the web is obviously not a new concept. However, tying it to Arc Search’s excellent Browse for Me system — and making it accessible with just the press of a button — is incredible.

What makes this so impressive is the quality of Arc Search’s search results. For example, if I ask it to show me good restaurants in my area, I get a list of 10 recommended options with a brief description for each one. Arc also shows me additional lists of places that are great for takeout and delivery. If I tap on a restaurant, I get a new page explaining it in detail — including its location, a summary of user reviews, a preview of its menu, and more.

My partner and I were talking about signing up for a YouTube Premium family plan recently, and I forgot how much it cost. I asked Arc Search, and it gave me an incredibly clear breakdown of the subscription cost, its included features, and some context about a price hike that happened in 2022.

When I asked Arc Search when Mad Max Furiosa is coming out, it showed me the release date at the top of the screen, followed by additional context on the film’s story, setting, cast, and more.

I could look up this information myself on any web browser with Google Search, but the results Arc Search provides are just  so much better . It gives you exactly the info you’re looking for, as well as additional (and helpful) context, and it backs up all of its AI summarization with direct links to the sources it’s pulling from. And, if you want, there’s always a button to view your search in a standard Google Search format.

Adding Arc Search to my iPhone 15 Pro Max the same day I finished my Rabbit R1 review really put into perspective how companies can create good AI experiences compared to bad ones.

The Rabbit R1 is an example of the latter. It’s a standalone $200 companion to my smartphone that’s supposed to make my life easier by using AI to search the web for me and perform other tasks. As I quickly discovered, it fails miserably at virtually everything it’s supposedly capable of.

Arc Search, on the other hand, is a fantastic example of a good AI application. It’s a free app I downloaded on my iPhone and does a lot of what the Rabbit was supposed to do, but infinitely better. It’s also turned my iPhone 15 Pro Max into the ultimate voice search device. If I have a question that requires the internet, I press and hold the Action button to use Arc Search. If I want to set a timer, call a contact, send a text, or anything like that, I press and hold the side button to talk to Siri.

I imagine we’ll see Apple and Google attempt to make their own voice assistants a one-stop shop for everything — especially with WWDC and  Google I/O right around the corner. But for now, I’m loving my Arc Search/Siri combo setup on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Arc Search has made my iPhone feel special and exciting in a way it hasn’t felt for a while, it’s breathed new life into the Action button, and it’s genuinely making my life easier. All that for the incredible price of free, no $200 orange square required.

Over the past few months, Apple has released a steady stream of research papers detailing its work with generative AI. So far, Apple has been tight-lipped about what exactly is cooking in its research labs, while rumors circulate that Apple is in talks with Google to license its Gemini AI for iPhones.

But there have been a couple of teasers of what we can expect. In February, an Apple research paper detailed an open-source model called MLLM-Guided Image Editing (MGIE) that is capable of media editing using natural language instructions from users. Now, another research paper on Ferret UI has sent the AI community into a frenzy.

While my primary device these days continues to be my iPhone 15 Pro, I’ve dabbled with plenty of Android phones since I’ve been here at Digital Trends. One of my favorite brands of phone has been the Google Pixel because of its strong suite of photo-editing tools and good camera hardware.

Google first added the Magic Eraser capability with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which is a tool I love using. Then, with the Pixel 8 series, Google added the Magic Editor, which uses generative AI to make edits that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. There are also tools like Photo Unblur, which is great for old photographs and enhancing images that were captured with low-quality sensors.

Earlier this year, ZTE offshoot Nubia showed off a foldable phone, and expectedly, the biggest draw was its supposedly attractive asking price. As U.S. shoppers waited for the phone to hit retail shelves, ZTE launched it in Japan as the Libero Flip. Thankfully, the wait is finally over on this side of the Atlantic, as well.

Nubia's website has recently listed the Nubia Flip 5G for pr-eorder on its website. The best part is the asking price, which is only $500 for the base variant with a respectable 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. You can bump the RAM to 12GB and double the storage capacity for an additional $200.

Here’s how much Google paid Apple to be Safari’s default search engine in 2022

It’s no secret that Google pays Apple a lot of money to be the default search engine for the Safari web browser on iOS and macOS. In 2021, the company paid $15 billion to keep Google as the default search engine on Apple platforms . Now a report has just revealed how much Google has spent to keep the deal going in 2022.

According to Bloomberg , Google paid Apple around $20 billion in 2022 to keep its search engine as the default in Safari. The amount was revealed through documents in the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust lawsuit against Google.

The deal between Google and Apple is one of the main targets of the lawsuit, as the DOJ believes that Google has monopolized online searches with its power.

The deal between the two companies was meant to be secret. Apple executives testified during a trial that Google pays “billions” for it, without specifying a figure. A witness later revealed that Google pays Apple 36% of its online advertising revenue. “The agreement with Apple is the most important of Google’s default deals,” says the report.

The deal between Apple and Google began in 2002, but it took a while before the companies decided to share revenue from search ads. Previous reports have revealed that Microsoft has already tried to negotiate with Apple to make Bing the default search engine in Safari and even sell Bing to Apple.

As Apple is rumored to be in talks with Google to use Gemini in iOS 18 , the Cupertino-based company may soon fork over even more cash from Google.

You can easily navigate a webpage with a few taps.

Add Safari back to your Home Screen

If you don’t see Safari on your Home Screen, you can find it in App Library and add it back.

On the Home Screen, swipe left until you see the App Library.

Enter “Safari” in the search field.
