saudi arabia visit india

With 275 direct flights every week between the two countries, Saudi Arabia is betting big on the Indian tourist footfall. Last year, the country recorded 1.5 million Indian travellers, a 50% jump over 2022, and aims to amplify this number in the coming decade.

Alhasan Aldabbagh, president of Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets of the Saudi Tourism Authority, who is on a visit to Delhi , tells DIVYA A his country has launched a range of initiatives for this — from establishing VFS (Visa Facilitation Services) offices in nine Indian cities to visa liberalisation and enhanced air connectivity. Edited excerpts from the interview:

saudi arabia visit india

How significant is India as a source market for Saudi Arabia?

India has long been an important partner for Saudi Arabia, reflecting the centuries-old economic and socio-cultural ties. We now have a very ambitious goal for India. We expect India, which is currently No. 3, to be the No. 1 inbound market for Saudi by 2030. Last year, we hosted over 1.5 million Indian travelers, making a substantial increase of 50% from 2022.

This surge is attributed to strategic initiatives, including a partnership with the Indian Premier League, enhanced air connectivity and the establishment of 10 VFS offices across India. We aim to host 7.5 million Indian visitors by 2030.

Which places in Saudi are most popular with Indian travellers?

Medina, Riyadh, Jeddah and AlUla remain the top destinations for visitors… Heritage-focused travel takes the lead as a holiday preference for Indian travellers and Saudi has been promoting its history and culture to attract tourists from around the world, including India.

Festive offer

Key initiatives include the restoration and preservation of heritage sites such as Al-Ula and Diriyah, and the development of cultural festivals and events that showcase Saudi’s traditions and customs.

How has Saudi Arabia facilitated ease of travel for tourists, and for Indians in particular, with respect to visas and flights?

It has never been easier to visit Saudi. Enhanced air connectivity and visa initiatives are key to opening Saudi to Indian travellers.

Indian passport holders with a UK, US or Schengen visa that has been utilised at least once are eligible for an e-visa online. The stopover visa allows Indian passengers flying with Saudia (flag carrier of Saudi Arabia) or Flynas ( private Saudi low-cost airline) to spend up to 96 hours in the country.

With 10 VFS Tasheel offices located across Indian cities, our goal is to enable a seamless travel experience to Saudi.

At a time when the Red Sea has a different connotation, what is the Red Sea tourism Saudi is talking about?

The Red Sea is known for its pristine landscape with the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef system, 90 untouched islands, mountains and mangroves — all in one place. It will soon have its very own airport, The Red Sea International Airport.

We have also taken steps to embrace eco-friendly practices by enhancing biologically diverse habitats including mangroves, seagrass, corals and land vegetation.

Another new island destination in the Red Sea is Sindalah, which will be the first physical showcase of NEOM (a new destination being created in Northwestern Saudi). It is a $500 billion giga-project being built as a zero-carbon smart city that will run on renewable energy.

What are the other major source markets for Saudi Arabia and how do they compare with India?

India remains one of Saudi’s top three inbound source markets and holds a pivotal role in realising Vision 2030. By 2030, we are also aiming to attract Chinese visitors by tailoring experiences for Chinese travellers.

What is Saudi Arabia Family Visit Visa?

How to get a saudi arabia family visit visa, eligibility for saudi family visit visa, when you have this visa, documents required for saudi family visit visa, photo specification of saudi family visit visa, saudi family visit visa processing time, saudi family visit visa fee, how to check saudi family visit visa status, saudi arabia visit visa for indians - definitive guide.

With over 13 percent of the population in Saudi Arabia being Indians, Indians are bound to have family members living in the country. To visit your family living in the country, you will need a Family Visit Visa Saudi Arabia.

saudi arabia visit visa

For people other than those from the GCC countries, and from a few other visa-exempt nations, everyone requires a permit to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, if you are visiting a first-degree family member, you can apply for a Saudi Family Visit Visa . Valid for a maximum of 90 days, or as per approval by the Ministry of External Affairs in Saudi. This permit allows you to visit the country for the purpose of meeting family, and thereby can even take part in tourism activities. The visa comes in the form of a vignette in your passport.

The process of applying for the family visit permit is quite different from other countries. The process although available online, for Indians, the mode is offline. Not just that, the Saudi embassy does not accept applications submitted directly. As a result, you will have to contact a travel agency to do it for you. Now before applying, ensure that you check the eligibility criteria for the visa. Once this is done, you may proceed to make the application as follows -

  • The first step involves collecting all the necessary documents required.
  • Once you have them, you can visit the MOFA Saudi website, and download the application form.
  • Proceed to fill in the form. You can either type it and take a print, or print it and write it by hand. You should also keep in mind to affix your photographs, and sign wherever necessary.
  • Pay the visa fees online to the travel agency. You cannot make direct payments to the embassy.
  • With the application form, attach the documents and send them to the Saudi Embassy via the travel agent.

Please ensure that you fill in the correct details and that you submit the original documents. Any wrong information or forged documents can lead to a visa rejection . A denied permit is considered as a black mark in your travel history.

To be able to apply for the visit permit, you will have to meet the following criteria -

  • You must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure.
  • The family member you are visiting must be of the first degree such as children, parents, siblings, or also, spouse, in-laws, etc. You cannot apply for a family visit permit if they are your uncles, aunts, etc.
  • The person inviting you must hold a valid family visit visa invitation letter approved by the MOFA in Saudi Arabia.
  • The person inviting you must hold a valid Iqama (residence permit)
  • Your sole purpose of the visit must be to visit your family.

When you receive your visit permit, keep in mind the following key points to ensure a hassle-free journey -

  • Make a note of the vis expiry date. You will not be able to stay in the country beyond this period. If you do stay, it is considered a criminal offence, and you will be fined and deported.
  • You cannot engage in work activities while you are on a visit permit.
  • You must strictly abide by the rules and regulations of Saudi while you are in the country. You must also respect their culture and traditions.

The list of documents as per the Saudi family visit visa requirements , that are necessary for the application are mentioned as follows -

  • An original passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel. Any old passports need to be submitted as well
  • 2 photographs as per regulations.
  • Family Visit Visa Invitation letter approval from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KSA
  • Copy of Iqama of the Sponsor
  • Passport copy of the sponsor
  • Travel insurance issued by the Saudi embassy as per your application
  • Proof of relationship with the relative inviting you.

saudi arabia visit visa photo requirements

  • Face should cover 80% of the photo
  • Facial expression - neutral
  • Head in a central location

  • Headwear - permitted in case of religious reasons

Due to the lower volume of applications, the family visit permit is generally issued in about 4-5 working days. However, depending on a few factors such as the time taken to get the invitation approved, a higher volume of applications, season, etc, this may take longer to be approved.

The total fees depend on several factors such as the number of entries, service charges by the travel agency, etc. Since the fees can change without prior notice, it is necessary to confirm the amount before you make the application.

Once you have submitted your visa application, you will receive it back via your travel agent within the stipulated processing time. In the meanwhile, you can check your Saudi Family Visit Visa status by contacting the agency, or by emailing the embassy directly with your application number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can i renew my family visit visa in saudi.

You cannot renew it, but you can definitely extend your visa easily. Unlike a lot of the other nations, the Saudi government accepts a visa extension request. In most cases, you can get an extension up to the total duration of your current permit. If the visa is of 90 days, you can get up to another 90 days. However, keep in mind that you will have to apply for it at least a week before your current visa expires and that you can only stay in the country for a maximum of 180 days as a visitor.

Can I Get a Family Visit Visa Without Documents Such as a Birth Certificate of the Child, Marriage Certificate, etc?

No, you cannot apply for it. A vital part of the documents required for the family visit permit is proof of the relationship. A birth certificate or the marriage certificate can be used to prove this. Without these, there is no evidence that the person you are visiting is your relative.

Can I Work in Saudi Arabia if I am On a Family Visitor Visa?

No, you definitely cannot. While you are on a visitor permit, you are strictly prohibited from working or engaging in work-related activities. The primary condition for which the visa is issued is that your purpose of visit is only to visit your relatives. You can also take part in sight-seeing and tourist activities while you are on this.

After Expiring My Saudi Arabia Family Visit Visa, How Long Can I Stay?

You cannot stay any longer after your visa is expired. You are expected to leave the country on or before the date of expiry. Staying back after the period is considered as an offence and you may face penal charges. However, you are free to apply for an extension if you want to stay in the country.

What is the Medical Test for Saudi Arabia Family Visit Visa?

Since it is a short term permit, there is no requirement of a mandatory medical test. However, for the long-stay permit such as the family visa, you require a medical check-up to be done. Either way, it is suggested that you get a health checkup done before travelling to any country for the sake of your own safety.

Can I Convert My Saudi Arabia Family Visa into a Work Permit?

No, the short term visas cannot be converted into another type. Once your visa expires, you will have to leave the country. However, if you wish to get a work permit, you can apply for jobs in the KSA and find a sponsor. Then, once you return back to your home country after the visit permit expires, you can apply for a new work permit.

Stay up to date:, emerging technologies.

  • The bioeconomy is an economy built on renewable biological resources, fuelled by innovation.
  • The global bioeconomy could be worth $30 trillion by 2030.
  • Saudi Arabia and India are both pursuing their own bioeconomies, and stand to benefit greatly from deepening collaboration.

Saudi Arabia and India, two of the world’s fastest-growing economies, are working to capitalize on the rapid expansion of the bioeconomy to turbocharge sectors ranging from energy to healthcare and beyond.

The bioeconomy — an economy where the basic building blocks for materials, chemicals, energy and healthcare are derived from renewable biological resources — is already gaining traction as a way to generate value within planetary boundaries.

By 2030, the bioeconomy and the synthetic biology that it relies on could be worth $30 trillion.

The potential of the bioeconomy has not gone unnoticed by India and Saudi Arabia, who are doubling down on this synergy — and cooperating to deliver maximum progress.

For a clear-cut example of how important the bioeconomy is and how much potential it has, we need look no further than the COVID-19 pandemic. The bio-enabled mRNA vaccine industry delivered COVID-19 jabs in record time, and India’s manufacturing base for inoculations meant that millions of doses were rapidly dispersed globally, saving countless lives.

During the peak pandemic period, India donated 4.5 million doses of indigenously manufactured COVID-19 vaccines to Saudi Arabia as part of Vaccine Maitri (Vaccine Friendship). This partnership is just one example of the strength of cooperative, bio-enabled research and biomanufacturing facilities.

Have you read?

Why the bioeconomy could be the future of sustainable manufacturing, why sharing data is crucial for progress in bioeconomy , this is what you need to know about the bioeconomy, two strategies for bioeconomy development.

But these two countries could go much further than that.

From climate change-resistant crops to biofuels and vaccine manufacturing, the bioeconomy is poised to play a key role in the development of both India and Saudi Arabia.

Both countries have developed national biotechnology roadmaps. Saudi Arabia’s National Biotechnology Strategy aims to position the Kingdom as a regional and global biotech hub with a far-reaching impact on biomanufacturing and medical innovation. As part of its own National Biotechnology Development Strategy 2025 , India is working towards positioning itself as a knowledge- and innovation-driven bio-economy.

Saudi Arabian-Indian bioeconomy potential

India and Saudi Arabia, building on a strong existing trade relationship, have further potential to collaborate across energy, healthcare and bioservices.

Having launched the G20 Global Biofuels Alliance , India is now pushing to manufacture biofuels locally . Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s largest oil producer ARAMCO is diversifying its investments and seeking out sustainable energy sources like blue and green hydrogen and alternative fuels . Herein lies great potential for investment.

In healthcare, too, there is potential. Personalized healthcare solutions will be critical to treat large diabetic populations in both countries, to support healthcare industry with big data driven patient diagnosis and to upgrade hospitals to provide patient specific healthcare treatments through increasing use of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and tools like AI and Big Data. From managing patient records and to predicting preventive healthcare diseases, advancements in biotech and 4IR hold great potential. Fused solutions such as 3D bioprinting could power the future of patient specific care and treatments in hospitals. World Economic Forum partners Next Big Innovation Labs and Olayan Group are collectively working to make this a reality.

With a large talent pool, a thriving biomanufacturing ecosystem for biosimilar drugs and contract research organizations servicing the biotech testing requirements of world’s largest economies, India is already a world leader in bioservices. Saudi Arabia can capitalize on this. And, with almost 17% of its public budget towards healthcare and life-sciences sector development, there is a growing impetus in the Kingdom to invest in India’s vibrant bioservices sector. Not only will this bolster growth in both economies, but it will also help Saudi Arabia meet its Vision 2030 health sector goals .

Next steps to deepen Indian-Saudi bioeconomy investment

Capitalizing on the potential of an India-Saudi Arabia partnership is key. This could be done by creating value-added academic courses and training programmes to reskill and upskill each country’s workforce; investing a larger part of their R&D budget into bio-enabled and impacted research areas; scaling up domestic biomanufacturing facilities; and/or creating a joint India-Saudi Arabia fund to scale up and commercialize critical technologies.

The World Economic Forum’s Bioeconomy Initiative aims to advance the bioeconomy into the commercial mainstream to deliver scalable, sustainable alternatives and improve the state of the world by facilitating collaboration across geographical, sectoral and societal barriers.

  • No scheduled visit to Israel during Blinken's trip
  • Blinken to visit Saudi Arabia to discuss Gaza ceasefire efforts
  • Blinken to participate in GCC ministerial meeting and WEF event

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Saudi Arabia on Monday and Tuesday to meet with regional partners and discuss efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages, the State Department said on Saturday. The state secretary had earlier visited Middle East nations for ceasefire talks .

"He will discuss the recent increase in humanitarian assistance being delivered to Gaza and underscore the importance of ensuring that increase is sustained," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement.

"The Secretary will also emphasise the importance of preventing the conflict from spreading and discuss ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the region, including through a pathway to an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel."

Blinken is not scheduled to visit Israel on this trip. War began in Gaza after Hamas fighters crossed into Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and capturing 253 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

Nearly 32,000 people have been confirmed killed in Israel's retaliatory onslaught, according to Palestinian health officials in Hamas-run Gaza, with thousands more feared lost under the rubble.

During his two-day visit, Blinken will participate in a ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council, working to advance security coordination in the region, Miller said.

Blinken meets Saudi Arabian counterpart with high hopes of convincing Arab states on post-Gaza war governance

Us secretary of state antony blinken on monday begins his seventh diplomatic mission to the middle east since the israel-hamas war began more than six months ago. he landed in riyadh, saudi arabia, on monday and was greeted by officials..

Ajeet Kumar

Blinken’s trip comes amid renewed concerns about the conflict spreading in the Middle East and with once-promising prospects for Israeli-Saudi rapprochement effectively on hold as Israel refuses to consider one of the Saudis’ main conditions for normalized relations: the creation of a Palestinian state.

According to news agency Reuters, the top Biden official will meet his Arab partners and counterparts to discuss post-war Gaza. Besides, his visit will focus on pressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take concrete and tangible steps. According to Israeli media reports, Netanyahu is planning a massive raid on the Rafah region.

VIDEO:  Blinken  arrives in Saudi Arabia

It is worth mentioning that the US has been working with a group of five Arab nations — the so-called “Quint” of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates — on planning for reconstruction and governance of the territory once the war ends. After initial reluctance in the early stages of the war to commit to participating in such planning, the Arabs in January agreed to do so, although many of their specific contributions to the effort have not been completely determined yet and will not likely be set at this meeting, the official said.

Later, Blinken and those same Arab ministers along with several from Europe will meet jointly to go over their ideas and tell the Europeans that there is a role for them — both financially and with specific expertise — to play in Gaza’s post-conflict future, according to the official who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity to preview Blinken’s discussions.

Biden warns Netanyahu

Earlier on Sunday, US President Joe Biden spoke to Netanyahu and warned of taking any action on the Rafah crossing. Biden reiterated his firm stance on the war-torn region and added he would not allow the Israeli Defence Forces to take any steps against the region without any credible information about the hideouts of the Hamas militants. Also, Biden told the Israeli Prime Minister to take extra humanitarian precautions before any aggression.
