And while the child was a bit underwhelmed until we came to the water, we enjoyed the humorous banter of the tour guide — he did very well to keep our spirits up on a cold blustery day. Full marks to him! Read more Written 15 April 2024

Must admit I was very hesitant about doing it as it was a surprise for my husband’s birthday and I also thought we would be the only Irish doing it🙈 I have to say I’m so glad that we did! From the minute we got onto the boat till we got off we never stopped laughing! Chris the tour guide was an absolute hoot and totally made the whole experience so worth while. He was very informative throughout the whole tour and never stopped for a breath! He even got the group to sing happy birthday to my hubby which was hilarious 😆 ! Loads of different nationalities and a few Irish too so it was lovely to be part of a mixed group 😊 would definitely recommend it as a family thing to do. Read more Written 14 April 2024

So a group of yelpers went along as a UYE... I presume many of us had been shouted at by the tour - frankly that was my reason for going... I've been shouted out by a bunch of viking hats in a yellow bus/boat so many times - generally as I walk out of Hodges Figgis engrossed in a book - I wanted revenge! Anyway the tour itself is not necessarily the most informative or comprehensive tour of Dublin (I used to work in the industry so I've actually been on most of them) but it is the one where you get to wear a viking helmet and shout at buses (competition Celts) and try to get people to spill their coffee by shouting at them when they don't expect it (cappucino celts), so I think it's probably the most fun. There's still lots of information on the tour, and I think its a great one for kids. We were on the tour with a group of kids on a birthday party... and they seemed to think that Danish Viking and Norse Vikings came together to invent chicken nuggets, so it was probably the right time for them to hear about vikings... although in fairness to the comedy improv skills of our driver, chicken nuggets did appear quite a lot in the history of Dublin thereafter! I thought it was great craic and thoroughly enjoyed shouting a people while pretending to be a tourist.... me and my friend had an agreement to duck if we saw anyone we knew!

Took the tour a few days ago, I really enjoyed the concept and the majority of the tour was very amusing, interactive and original. But the one thing that really brought the enjoyment factor down was the fact that the guide repeatedly resorted to making sexist jokes. He even mentioned that one year he received a record of 11 complaints about sexist behaviour. I think he seemed quite intelligent, as he was very capable of making smart and witty jokes that weren't at the expense of anyone. So what I would stress to him or his employers would be to cut offensive jokes and focus on the cleverer side of humour, that he is obviously capable of. (I should probably add that I didn't catch his name, but he had dark hair, glasses and I'd guess in his early thirties.)

You will not believe that as a Dublin resident I have been on the Viking Splash Tour twice, what has compelled me? Well, mostly obligation to friends with visitors from abroad, but the first time at least, curiosity. Or that, I have another friend, and Dublin resident, that has been on it five times this year, and now knows the tour guides by name. He's weird, don't ask. The Viking Splash takes a cursory swing through the cities Viking hot-spots like Suffolk Street, Christchurch and the Liffey then swoops over to Grand Canal Dock for the much anticipated Splash. The tour guide notified us of lots of pseudo-Viking related stuff a lot of which I didn't know before. The River Poddle for example is now a road, don't ask me how Dublin City Council swung that but they did. The centre of Viking Dublin which, now has the monstrous Dublin Civic Offices plonked on top of it, I think corruption and an unhealthy disregard for national heritage is how they swung that. The splash is something of a disappointment but how could it be otherwise, I don't really know. A chilly tootle around the Grand Canal Dock, though looking at it's very best now, post-docklands development, is not what the crowd were looking for and has nothing really Viking at all about it. So, save for the fact that shockingly little of Viking Dublin remains in any way visible, this is a pretty fun excursion especially if you have little 'uns. If you want an extensive, serious minded tour though, I would look elsewhere. You can book tickets on their website, by phone or at any Dublin tourism centre.

I've wanted to do this for ages! it Its one of those things which all the tourists do and the local look at and think "I must do that some day" It is fun and informative overall, does pretty much what it says on the tin; you wear Viking helmets and go for a splash The kids had a ball but i must confess I got bored of the yelling and shouting pretty quickly - even junior was over it by the end It does cost rather a lot too and while it is a grand* way to spend a couple of hours, once is more than enough. I feel mean only giving 3 stars but it I think it's about right. *by grand, read: "I'm irish and not willing to say anything overtly negative, plus, while no one actually died it wasn't the most fun I have ever had with my clothes on

Photo of Liat F.

Like some of the other Yelpers, I'd wanted to do this for a long time; always hearing them come up and yell cheerfully at unsuspecting pedestrians and cyclists. So, having so many liberties with my events calendar, I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to go and bring my students to experience Irish joviality at its best. When we climbed on board, we found Viking hats to wear and our tour guide gave us a cheery and enthusiastic welcome and safety speech. And then we were off. Lots of the usual tourist spots on the route, plus some interesting facts about them. But what made it more fun than the usual historical and cultural tidbits were the enthusiastic AAAARGHs towards the celts. Some of the faces, as mentioned in previous reviews, were priceless. Unfortunately, as an adult, it got old after about an hour. Still, fun. I would totally recommend it to other people who've always wondered what it would be like.

Photo of Gordon S.

This was a great fun tour, Dara the guide kept an informative and humorous narrative going throughout. Truly entertaining and informative.

Photo of Stephen N.

We were visiting from California and we thought this might be a fun tour to try out. This was a highlight of our trip. Our driver was Capt. Pat and he was fantastic. We learned about the city, roared at the different 'Celts" around Dublin, and heard some outrageous stories (too funny to be true). We couldn't have asked for a better tour of Dublin. Ask for Capt. Pat and you won't be disappointed.

Photo of Roger A.

One of the many ways to get a guided tour around Ireland. you get to to in the water, but its in one secluded area. But in that water area, U2's recording studio as well as some renovations to make that area better. I had Ivan as a tour guide and that guy had me laughing. Some of the things he was saying had me weak!!! Price is decent and you get an alright tour around Dublin.

Photo of Jennifer K.

This was actually very good, it was the perfect length for a bus tour of 75 minutes. There was no getting bored and it was quite a different tour than any of the walking ones that I have been on. It went down all the important streets, but I actually found that the Grand Canal section was the most interesting as I have never thought to "tour" that area before. The guides all have a sense of humor and the quicker you buy into acting the angry Viking all the more fun for you. The water bit is a little silly, as an army vehicle gets loaded with floaties to bob around a large swimming pool, but it was fun all the same. Perfect for a morning activity with plenty of ideas of where to spend the rest of your trip if you are visiting, without the exhaustion of one of on-off do/see everything buses.

Photo of Clive B.

This is tour for people who want a giggle rather than a serious tour I guess. I was a bit bored by it to be honest although it had its moments. There's a lot of shouting and a lot of comments to people in the street but due to the water bit they avoid a lot of good areas of dublin and end up taking you down a lot of busy streets. Avoid this trip during rush hour, it is painful indeed.

My friends back home told me this was a must do when you are in Dublin. They we're so right. It was pouring rain but we didn't care because we had our ponchos and most importantly!! Our viking helmets. The guide was hilarious,he knew how to entertain the kids and us adults felt like kids, especially when we would scream out the occasional Viking roar at the people on the street. All in all, great family fun, would highly recommend.

A fantastic trip full of laughter and so much fun. Our tour guide/ driver Kevin should be on the stage. His ad-libbing was second to none and was interspersed with interesting facts. His talents know no bounds and made the trip even more enjoyable. Our children were with us so the jokes were kept tongue in cheek but just as hilarious. Kevin's interaction with the people on the streets was genius and there were some fantastic sports there too. I would highly recommend it to natives and tourists alike.

I've been to Dublin a few times before but we decided to embrace our tourist side and take this tour. I want to go back and do it all over again! We laughed the entire time and still find ourselves randomly chuckling remembering parts. Not the most educational tour but we did actually learn more than we did on several other trips throughout the country and had a WAY better time. Ask for one of the rides with Kevin! We wish he led all of our tours! Definitely book your tickets in advance, they often sell out.
