Original Aerosmith tour van found in small Massachusetts town by "American Pickers"

By Caitlin O'Kane

Updated on: August 9, 2018 / 1:32 PM EDT / CBS News

Four decades ago, before Aerosmith was selling out stadiums, the band was traveling New England and trying to become a household name. The band members rode in a funky 1964 International Harvester Metro van with a cartoon man and "Aerosmith" painted in bright colors across the side. Decades later, the dated yet iconic van has been found, and the people who located it know a thing or two about nostalgic vehicles.

The hosts of History Channel's "American Pickers" say the van had spent years in the woods of a small Massachusetts town after being abandoned in the 1970s. In an episode of the show that aired July 30 , hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz visit Chesterfield, a town about 100 miles west of Boston, to inquire about the van.

The pickers find the dilapidated vehicle with the tires flat, the door missing and the paint rusting off. Still, Wolfe and Fritz, who search the country for valuable pieces of American nostalgia like cars and toys, were willing to pay a pretty penny for the rundown van. Wolfe says it's "a piece of American rock and roll history."

The International Harvester Metro sat near a house, and the property owner, identified only by Phil, said it was on the land when he purchased it. "This guy is deep in the woods, he's off the grid, and I keep thinking to myself, 'what the heck would this van be doing here?'" Wolfe wonders as he and Fritz see the van for the first time. The tale of the van has not been confirmed by CBS News, and it is unclear when Aerosmith abandoned it or why.

Aerosmith's original tour van

Knowing members of Aerosmith were Massachusetts natives, Wolfe and Fritz thought they could connect the dots to prove the van was authentic.

To verify it, they tracked down Ray Tabano, a founding member of Aerosmith, who was in nearby Stockbridge at the time. Tabano was able confirm that their find was indeed the original Aerosmith van.

When he arrived, Tabano reminisced about what he called the "rolling hotel" that transported the band between local shows. "I just flashed back to when we started the band," he said after laying eyes on the van for the first time in more than four decades.

"This is it, baby," the rocker exclaimed when he took a look inside of van, recognizing the carpet on the ceiling falling off, just as it was back in the day. He shared an old photo of himself in the van, and recreated the image on "American Pickers."

Tabano, who played in the band from 1970 to around 1972, said the van reminded him of "humble beginnings."

The owner, Phil, was willing to part with the van — for a price. "American Pickers" paid him a whopping $25,000 to own a bit of rock n' roll nostalgia.

A long-lost 1970s Aerosmith van was recently found in Massachusetts and fixed up by ‘American Pickers’.

This van definitely rocks.

Last year, “American Pickers” Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz got a tip about an old 1964 International Harvester Metro van rotting away in the woods on a Massachusetts  property that turned out to be the original tour van Aerosmith used in the 1970s, when they were an up-and-coming act.

It was nowhere close to running condition, but still had the band’s name and artwork painted on the side. After confirming its authenticity, the “Pickers” paid $25,000 for it with plans to bring it back to life.

“It’s obviously the most incredible thing we’ve ever found in our lives,” Wolfe said on the History channel program.

When Aerosmith heard they picked it up, the band reached out and said they wanted to buy it back … when they fixed it. Wolfe said he was honored that they trusted him with overseeing the task.

The team found an identical truck to use for parts, and rescued as much of the original as they could. They incorporated the new engine, frame and rear end, but managed to preserve the painted side panel and some other features. They recreated the rest from old photos, including an interior decorated in period correct wood paneling.

After the work was complete, Wolfe and Fritz met up with Aerosmith in Las Vegas, where they have been playing a residency at the Park MGM, and featured the reunion in a recent episode .

Lead singer Steven Tyler shared stories about being on the road and sleeping in it with brass knuckles to protect the gear after he’d had a couple of “pops” of Jack Daniels, and pointed out where he hid other recreational substances.

The band didn’t reveal how much they paid for it, but have been using it on display in the lobby outside of their theater. Lead guitarist Joe Perry said he hopes it will end up in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame one day.

What Happened To The Aerosmith Tour Van From American Pickers?

Aerosmith van in American Pickers

One of the most famous finds on History reality series "American Pickers" involved a very popular '70s rock band and a touring van previously thought to be lost. In Season 19, hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz discovered the van on a man's property in Chesterfield, Massachusetts. It turns out the van was used by New England band Aerosmith early in their career, and original member Ray Tabano helped confirm its authenticity (via Distractify ). The "American Pickers" crew then bought the car and restored it as closely as possible to its original glory.

In the following season, Aerosmith themselves appeared on the show and were shown their iconic, newly restored former vehicle. The band members then reminisced about their days touring in the van and were happy to hear the driver-side door still made the same squeaky noise. Ultimately the van was one of the best finds ever for the whole "American Pickers" crew.

Fans of the reality series might be curious about where it wound up. Here's everything we know about what happened to the Aerosmith touring van after the show.

Aerosmith now owns the van

Aerosmith actually bought the van from the "American Pickers" crew, so the vehicle is officially in their possession now. This was a beautiful ending to a long journey, and the van is back in the hands of its original owners. The restored vehicle was displayed outside the Park Theater for quite some time, where the rock group held a Las Vegas residency (via Fox News ). According to Aerosmith's official Facebook page, the residency came to a screeching halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the van was packed up and taken away.

It's uncertain where the van is currently located, though we know that Aerosmith still owns the vehicle. Lead guitarist Joe Perry commented on " American Pickers " that he'd like the van to make its way into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The band may have started negotiating for precisely that to happen, or the van could simply be in storage somewhere until the pandemic ends. Whether Aerosmith can resume their residency again in the future remains to be seen, but we're just happy knowing that their tour van is back home.

History Channel show American Pickers has found Aerosmith's International Harvester Metro

Aerosmith's tour van

Aerosmith's first tour van has been found abandoned in woods near Chesterfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, about 110 miles west of Boston.

The 1964 International Harvester Metro van was tracked down by Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, the hosts of American Pickers , a reality television series shown on The History Channel.

The van's authenticity was confirmed by Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, and by Ray Tabano, a founding member of Aerosmith. Tabano was in the band from 1970 to 1972, before being replaced by Brad Whitford.

“I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s been like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing,” said Tabano on the show. “We’d drive from Boston up to New Hampshire for $125. Then after the gas, the tolls, and the food and back, we’d all make like $3 apiece.

"It just reminded me of the humble beginnings and I look at where [the band has] gone today it’s just amazing,”

How the van came to be in the woods is unclear, although the property owner claimed he originally purchased the land from "someone with a connection to Aerosmith."

Wolfe and Fritz paid $25,000 to buy the van from its current owner, Wolfe referring to the purchase as “a piece of American rock'n'roll history.”

The ‘American Pickers’ Find the Aerosmith Van that Started It All

By: Thaddeus Morgan

Updated: September 1, 2018 | Original: August 9, 2018

Aerosmith Van Found on American Pickers

When Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz laid their eyes on a beat-up and rusted old van that had been pulled up from the dirt in the Massachusetts woods—they noticed it had a few distinctive features: there was a cartoon in the same pose as the signature Keep on Truckin’ comic on the side, along with the name Aerosmith in a design that in no way resembled the logo the rock band is known for.

Although the duo had gone to investigate the relic based on little more than a hunch by the van’s owner, it turns out they had struck gold. The van had belonged to the legendary band Aerosmith, and played a significant part in the band’s story when they first began performing in the 1970s.

As hosts of HISTORY series American Pickers , Wolfe and Fritz have come across a wide array of premium picks in their years travelling the country, but rarely have they come across a find as monumental as this one.

The 1964 International Harvester Metro was found on the property of a Chesterfield, Massachusetts resident who had lived on the property since 2005. The owner, Phil, pulled the decrepit van up from beneath the dirt with his son, and it had remained untouched on a car trailer ever since. Unsure if the van belonged to a fan or the band itself, Phil called in the help of Wolfe and Fritz to check it out. Thanks to some sleuthing by two, the record of the van’s history began to take shape.

Aerosmith

Before Aerosmith was selling out arenas across the globe, they started as a typical struggling band from Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970. The specific model of the recovered van was produced from the late-1930s to the late-1970s, which piqued Wolfe’s interest.

“If they used this van when they first started rocking, it would have been old enough where they could acquire it pretty cheap,” says Wolfe in the episode.

So the location of the van in Massachusetts, and the potential price tag of the van when the band would’ve started performing, both added up. But for confirmation, they’d need someone from the band or close to it. Luckily, Wolfe was a just a few degrees of separation from founding band member Ray Tabano.

Tabano was the guitarist for Aerosmith when it was formed, before leaving the band at the tail end of the following year. One year later, lead singer Steven Tyler got in touch with his old friend and asked Tabano to come back to the band after they signed their first album deal. He did come back, but as an organizer who sold merchandise and redesigned the logo.

Tabano agreed to come see the van in person to confirm if it was the real deal. When he arrived and saw the van firsthand, there was no denying that this was the vehicle that had started it all.

Steven Tyler and Ray Tabano

“I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing,” says Tabano in the episode. “I just flash back to when we first started the band, ‘cause it was an amazing thing, you know. All of a sudden, here’s this thing that you know, we lived in. It was like our dressing room, you know, it was like a rolling hotel.”

Tabano showed pictures of the greenhorn band in the van, pointing out characteristics like the rug draped from the ceiling and the small sliding window. Tabano also revealed that the now defunct logo on the side of the van was significant in that it was the first time the band’s name had ever been written out.

In the end, the owner was still interested in selling the van after learning about its extraordinary history. The pickers took it off his hands for the grand price of $25,000. Was it worth the heft price tag? Wolfe thinks so.

“We just got a piece of American rock ‘n’ roll history!” he yelled.

Aerosmith's First Tour Van from 1964 Found Abandoned in the Woods in Massachusetts

The van—which still prominently displays a caricature and the band's name in bright colors on its side—was discovered by the hosts of American Pickers

Aerosmith ‘s first tour van has been found!

During a recent episode of History Channel’s American Pickers , hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz visited Chesterfield, Massachusetts, on the hunt for the band’s 1964 International Harvester Metro van that was abandoned in the 1970s.

They found it with a man named Phil, who owns the property where the van was found. He informed the Pickers that the car was on the land when he bought it.

The van—which still prominently displays a caricature of the band lead singer Steven Tyler and the band’s name in bright colors on its side—is in rough shape. It’s missing a door, the tires are flat, and there’s carpet falling off from the ceiling.

“This guy is deep in the woods,” Wolfe says. “He’s off the grid, and I keep thinking to myself, ‘what the heck would this van be doing here?'”

According to CBS News , the backstory of the van has not been revealed and it is not known why the band, which formed in Boston, abandoned their original tour van. The outlet reports that before they were arguably one of the most famous rock bands in history, they were traveling around the northeast in this van.

In order to prove the vehicle’s authenticity, the show hosts paid a visit to former guitarist Ray Tabano, one of Aerosmith’s founding members , who validated its origin.

“It certainly looks like it. Oh my goodness gracious,” Tabano said when he was reunited with the vehicle. “I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s been like 40 years since we were in this thing. It was like a touring hotel… This is definitely the van. You found it.”

“This is it, baby,” he added when reminiscing about how the band would drive to play shows in New Hampshire—for which they were paid $125, but only pocketed about $3 after food, tolls and gas.

In the end, the American Pickers hosts paid Phil $25,000 for the van.

“We just got a piece of American rock n’ roll history, ” Wolfe said. “If you had the opportunity to buy one of the biggest and most iconic pieces of rock and roll history for $25,000 — hell yes you would.”

Aerosmith's Original Tour Van Found in Massachusetts by 'American Pickers'

Aerosmith's Original Van

Aerosmith's original tour van has been found in Massachusetts, some 40 years after the rock-n-roll band including Steven Tyler used it.

The van was found by the "American Pickers" History channel program in Western Massachusetts, on a property in Chesterfield.

"American Pickers" hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz got a top that the original tour van used by the band Aerosmith, founded in Boston in 1970, was sitting on a property in western Massachusetts, according to masslive.com . The "American Pickers" purchased the van, a 1960s International Harvester Metro Van, for a $25,000.

"Apparently, the van was on the property when the current owner, only identified as Phil, purchased the land a few years back," the news site reported. "The pickers showed up in Chesterfield and met the owner, who told them the original owner of the van had a connection to the property, but he didn't have many details beyond that."

"American Pickers" Season 19, Episode 13 aired on July 30, 2018. You can find more about it here . The hosts are known for finding old relics and making the most of them. They found out about the Aerosmith van on a tip from a property owner, who tells them that former Aerosmith roadie Mark Lehman lived there at one point.

The "American Pickers" duo begin a search, connecting with Ray Tobano , an original Aerosmith member. Tobano meets up with the "American Pickers" and confirms that, yes, it is the original Aerosmith touring van.

"It certainly looks like it. Oh my goodness gracious," Tabano said on the program. "I'm afraid to say how long it is, but it's been like 40 years since we were in this thing. It was like a touring hotel... This is definitely the van. You found it."

Aerosmith Tour Van Buried Massachusetts

Aerosmith’s very first tour van has been found abandoned in woods near Chesterfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, about 110 miles west of Boston.

The 1964 International Harvester Metro van was tracked down by Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, the hosts of American Pickers , a reality television series shown on The History Channel . The band’s name was still painted on the side of the van, which had spent decades rusting in a woodland near Chesterfield, Massachusetts. The episode, titled ‘Roll Like A Rock Star’ first aired on July 30 and is available to watch on demand via History.com.

Wolfe and Fritz were told that the vehicle was already there when the current property owner took possession. The previous owner was reported to have had some connection with Aerosmith, although it isn’t clear what that might be. In order to secure some provenance, Wolfe made contact with his friend Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.

Auerbach passed pictures of the van to Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, who in turn contacted co-founding guitarist Ray Tabano, who was replaced by Brad Whitford in 1971 but remained connected with the band for some years afterward. Tabano lives nearby, so he came to see the van and confirmed it was the real deal – even bringing a photo of himself seated inside.

“I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s been like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing,” Tabano told Ultimate Classic Rock , describing the van as Aerosmith’s “rolling hotel” in their early days. “We’d drive from Boston up to New Hampshire for $125 [show fee],” he added. “Then after the gas, the tolls, and the food and back, we’d make like $3 apiece. … It just reminded me of the humble beginnings and I look at where [the band has] gone today — it’s just amazing.”

Aerosmith will appear on NBC’s Today on Aug. 15, with high expectations that they’ll make an announcement related to their upcoming 50th anniversary. Wolfe and Fritz paid $25,000 for the band’s former vehicle. At the time of writing, what will happen to the van remains unclear.

The original Aerosmith tour van was found in a small town by ‘American Pickers’

Wow! They said, "It’s been like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing.”

On a recent episode of the History Channel’s “American Pickers,” hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz discovered an awesome piece of rock ‘n’ roll history. Buried deep in the woods in Chesterfield, Massachusetts, about 100 miles West of Boston, the antique scavengers found the 1964 International Harvester Metro van that served as iconic rock band Aeromsith’s very first tour bus in the early 1970s.

When Aerosmith founding member Ray Tabano got a look at the now rusted-out old van, he confirmed that the vehicle was, in fact, the one he and his bandmates traveled the area in during their early days as a group. @jaggerrae wrote on Twitter : “Waaaaaa!! It’s a match!! Ray T confirmed.”

“I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s been like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing,” Tabano told the show’s hosts in the episode and showed a photo of himself in the van back then as proof.

The owner of the land where the vehicle was found, identified on the show only as Phil, says the van was there since he bought the land from someone with a connection to Aerosmith. Phil scored a cool $25,000 when Wolfe and Fritz bought the incredible piece of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia from him. @RockWalkLondon even posted a throwback photo of the band aboard the van, prompting nostalgia for the members and fans alike:

Aerosmith formed in Boston in 1970 and went on to achieve massive success with over 150 million albums sold worldwide . The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

With all their fortune and fame, the band’s old tour bus, which Tabano says took them to gigs where they barely made $3 a piece, serves as a powerful reminder of just how far they’ve come in their decades-long career.

“It just reminded me of the humble beginnings and I look at where (the band has) gone today — it’s just amazing,” Tabano said on the episode.

And perhaps Aerosmith captured that feeling best in one of their first hit songs from their debut album, “Dream On!”

Aerosmith was in the news a few months ago when frontman Steven Tyler opened a shelter for abused girls in Atlanta.

Tyler’s charity,  Janie’s Fund , which is named after Aerosmith’s hit song “Janie’s Got a Gun,” opened the shelter, along with Youth Villages. The shelter can house 30 girls and provides both therapy and medical care.

“I’ve never written a song as beautiful as Janie’s house,” Tyler wrote on Instagram. “This was two years in the making!! Spending the day with these girls…I’m just so proud of them! I’m just relieved they have a safe space to be who they are…to grow into amazing young women who will do great things in the world…#JANIESGOTAFUND.”

The original Aerosmith tour van found in Western Mass.

The van, located in Chesterfield, was featured on an episode of the History Channel show “American Pickers.”

A piece of rock ’n’ roll history involving Boston band Aerosmith has been found on the other side of Massachusetts.

In  a recently aired episode of the hit History Channel show “American Pickers,” hosts and antique scavengers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz tracked down, in Chesterfield, the band’s original tour van that the group used to schlep to gigs around New England in the early 1970s.

Not much was initially known about the rusted, 1964 International Harvester Metro van, buried in the woods, said the property’s owner, identified only as Phil , who told Wolfe and Fritz the vehicle was there when he bought the land.

The previous property owner had a connection to the band, he said, but it was unclear if the van had ever been used by the group.

Finding out would require a first-hand witness: Ray Tabano , a founding Aerosmith member and guitarist.

In the episode, which aired July 30, Wolfe reached out to a friend, Dan Auerbach , of the Black Keys, who in turn sent along photos of the van to Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry .

Tabano, in Stockbridge when the pickers were inspecting the van, said he made his way over after getting a call from Perry and confirmed the van’s authenticity.

“I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s been like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing,” Tabano told Phil, Wolfe, and Fritz, and even showed them a photo of himself in the vehicle taken back in its heyday.

Tabano, who was in the band from 1970 to 1972 before working for the group later on, said the van was like a “rolling hotel” in the future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers’ early days.

“We’d drive from Boston up to New Hampshire for $125,” he said, referring to the pay for the band’s gigs at the time. “Then after the gas, the tolls, and the food and back, we’d all make like $3 apiece.”

The van sold for considerably more than that, however, with Wolfe and Fritz picking it up from Phil for $25,000, according to the episode (which also flashed a glimpse of the  now iconic photo of a young Charlie Baker rocking out at an Aerosmith show in 1979).

Scroll down for items that did make it in time, including Aerosmith's dilapidated van re-appearing in someone's garden, Rita Ora signing to Kate Moss's modelling agency and Drake passing 50 billion streams.

Plus a new Cher-meets-Abba sample, Idles in session and changes on the way for Radio 1 and 6 Music. All that and lots more.

We'll leave you with the full-length version of Cher's cover of Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, which we teased earlier; and features on her album of Abba covers called Dancing Queen.

It's due out on 28 September, so glitter balls at the ready.

See you tomorrow for New Music Friday.

Art Brut, indie darlings of the mid-noughties, return for a party

It's been seven years since the band , led by charismatic frontman Eddie Argos, released new music.

Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out! is the first single from the group’s upcoming album due in the autumn.

Eddie explained the band's seven year hiatus:

“I moved to Berlin, I nearly died with Peritonitis. I was in a hospital for a bit. I had a son, I had a relationship that broke up. I wrote a comic, a memoir, a musical, and had a one man show.”

Listen above to the new track.

Someone should really buy MØ (and Diplo) some sunglasses

More new music for you now courtesy of a collab between Danish electro-pop star MØ and US DJ Diplo.

The new video finds the Dane struggling to shield her eyes from the sun aboard a big old fishing ship. Eventually, she goes below deck for a snog instead which seems like a sensible short term solution.

Her second album, Forever Neverland, is out in October and the singer says the inspiration for the video came from "Peter Pan and the lost boys - sailing instead of flying - setting out for distant shores in hopes of finding and living out their dreams.

"Collectively they are rejecting the harsh reality of the lives and the world they used to live in" she added.

Paloma Faith cancels shows 'under doctors orders'

Paloma Faith

The singer has just tweeted the news, adding: "I hate to disappoint my fans & apologise for any inconvenience caused".

She was due to play Haydock Park Racecourse in Merseyside on Friday night and Lingfield Racecourse in Surrey on Saturday night.

She is due to resume her lives show at Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh on 17 August.

"I do hope to continue my tour once recovered & look forward to seeing you in the future," she said.

Tributes to South African rapper ProKid

The family of the Soweto-born musician say he died of a seizure in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening.

ProKid, whose real name was Linda Mkhize, is survived by his wife, Ayanda, and their three-year-old daughter, as well as his parents and two brothers, says the Sowetan Live news site .

One of his best-loved songs, 2012's Makasana, spoke of coming from a township.

Listen to Idles live In Session

BBC 6 Music

Bristol punks Idles got the nod for album of the year by 6 Music DJ Steve Lamacq back in 2017, for their debut Brutalism.

Fair to say he's a believer.

"I didn't know I was looking for this band until I found them", said Lammo.

Ahead of the launch of their follow-up record, Joy as an Act of Resistance - out later this month - the lads popped in for a chinwag and a live session yesterday evening.

Listen below from two hours in.

Twenty One Pilots learn to Levitate

The US duo join a fire-breathing cult in the new music video for their latest track.

Levitate is taken from their forthcoming album Trench, which is out in October.

Apparently You can levitate too with just a little help, according to frontman Tyler Joseph

Watch above.

If you are thinking about attempting it then please try and take off from the ground first.

The Proclaimers bemoan lack of political pop music

Video content.

Scots brothers Craig and Charlie Reid have been speaking to 5 Live about their latest album Angry Cyclist

Calling the current political situation "as exciting" as the 1960s, they said they “wonder at the lack of political writing in mainstream pop”.

Craig Reid said he thought it was because "the internet allows an outlet for your views ... people think: 'what’s the point in music?'”.

Throwback Thursday: Aerosmith take on a blues classic

Earlier we told you how the US rock band's former tour bus had wound up in some lucky/unlucky soul's back garden in Massachusetts.

Last year, their farewell tour was cut short for health reasons but there was a suggestion it would resume at some point. If and when it does we're sure that Steven, Joe and the lads will travel in much more comfortable surroundings.

Our #TBT today then takes us back to 2004, when the Bad Boys from Boston covered the Big Joe Williams blues number, Baby Please Don't Go, for their 14th studio album Honkin' on Bobo.

In fact the band were reminiscing about it only last night as it happens, which was handy.

Check it above with your air guitars at the ready.

Lunchtime listen: Check out an all-star folkfest at the Proms

As long as you're not driving or operating heavy machinery then you may want to sit back with your eyes closed for this video.

It's from Friday night's Folk Music Prom and features Julie Fowlis, The Unthanks and Sam Lee, alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra.

The track is a traditional folk song from Shetland and Orkney.

To be honest, we lost most of the lyrics as they're sung in Gaelic but when the music is this lovely...

The Duke Spirit's Liela Moss goes it alone

Liela Moss has announced that she's to release her debut solo album, My Name is Safe in Your Mouth, in November.

The singer released five albums with her London rock band The Duke Spirit.

The announcement comes with a psychedelic new music video for first offering, Wild Fire, which is full of late summer hippy vibes

Check it above.

DJ Zedd has first world problems

Zedd

The 28-year-old Russian-German producer/DJ may well have a point (below) about the shower gel but does it really require a tweet?

Our newsfeeds are pretty overcrowded as it is.

Then again, hotels can be confusing places.

Dave Grohl's Play documentary is on iPlayer

Remember we told you about that Dave Grohl 23-minute long instrumental track?

It was recorded as part of a new mini-documentary called Play, in which Dave encourages music fans to learn an instrument - by playing roughly seven himself.

Well, it's now in BBC iPlayer.

You can watch it here though we should warn there are a few rockworthy curse words which pop out every so often.

Fun fact: Dave recorded pretty much all of the Foo Fighters' self-titled 1995 debut album himself.

Songwriter Freya Ridings 'grateful' for dyslexia

Music News LIVE reporter

Freya Ridings

Freya Ridings has been all over Radio 1 this week after her track Lost Without You was selected by Scott Mills as his tune of the week.

Prior to that she was all over Love Island too, with all three of the 23-year-old singer-songwriter's opening singles having helped to soundtrack 'totes emosh' scenes in the popular ITV2 reality show.

Now, Freya's moving across America, playing major festivals and headline shows for the first time ahead of her biggest UK tour to date in October.

Not bad for somebody who was written off as a musical no-hoper as a kid, due to her severe dyslexia.

"At school I was really heavily dyslexic, so I really struggled academically with reading and writing," she explains.

Quote Message: I loved playing piano and guitar, but I couldn't read music or other people's songs. Basically all my music teachers gave up on me, one by one. I loved playing piano and guitar, but I couldn't read music or other people's songs. Basically all my music teachers gave up on me, one by one.

Spiritualized on making a 'road trip' record and whether it's their last

Spiritualized 's Jason Pierce has been telling 6 Music's Clare Crane all about his forthcoming album, And Nothing Hurt.

The singer-songwriter said he intended to make "the perfect tape for a road trip"

Quote Message: I think rock 'n' roll is best when it's simple. I think rock 'n' roll is best when it's simple.

It's their first new album in six years, since 2012's Sweet Heart Sweet Light.

Listen above as Jason discusses the ideas behind the record, the lyrics and whether or not (as he's previously hinted) this is the final chapter of the band.

BBC Sound of 2017 winner Ray BLK shares powerful debut single

Ray BLK

Ray was the first unsigned winner of the annual BBC Music poll at the tail end of 2016

She recently signed a deal with Island Records and has now shared Run Run

The song addresses knife and gun crime with a video directed by Tom Green, known for working on the E4 series Misfits, making his debut as a music video director.

“It was such an emotional experience making this video," said Ray.

"The scenarios became so real and at some points hard to watch and listen to, there were tears on set... I’m so proud of what we’ve made.”

You can check it out below though we should warn there is some potentially upsetting imagery in the video.

Ray recently announced her first headline show of 2017 at the Forum in Kentish Town, north London on 3 October and will support Rudimental on their UK tour.

Lauren Laverne to present 6 Music breakfast show

Lauren Laverne

Lauren Laverne is to replace Shaun Keaveny on BBC 6 Music's breakfast show, it has been announced.

The presenter, formerly a singer in the Britpop band Kenickie, will make the move in January 2019, the station said.

"Some news guys, breakfast means breakfast," said Laverne in a tweet announcing the shake-up.

Keaveny and his co-presenter Matt Everitt will move to the afternoon, taking the slot currently occupied by Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie.

Keaveney tweeted he was "happy-sad".

Radcliffe and Maconie will move to weekend breakfast, while Mary Anne Hobbs gets promoted to weekday mid-mornings.

Aerosmith's old tour bus found in someone's backyard

The dilapidated old vehicle was discovered during the filming of the TV reality series American Pickers.

The 1964 International Harvester Metro, with a hand-painted band name and weird dancing hippy on its side, had spent decades rusting in a woodland property in Massachusetts.

Hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz were told that the vehicle was already there when the current property owner took possession.

Finders keepers then.

Aerosmith

It's provenance was apparently confirmed by the band 's co-founding guitarist Ray Tabano, who was replaced in 1971.

"It’s been like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing,” he said.

“We’d drive from Boston up to New Hampshire for $125 [show fee],” he added.

“Then after the gas, the tolls, and the food and back, we’d make like $3 apiece."

Ray didn't say who was in charge of parking the thing.

Travis Scott and Post Malone to play MTV VMAs

US rappers Travis Scott and Post Malone will perform at this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York City.

They'll join previously announced performers like Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, Logic and this year’s video vanguard winner, Jennifer Lopez

According to Rolling Stone , Scott will perform a medley of tunes from his new album, Astroworld and Malone will do likewise from his latest record Beerbongs & Bentleys.

Cardi B leads the nominations at the Radio City Music Hall event later this month, with ten.

The Carters - aka Beyonce and Jay-Z - have eight, while Childish Gambino and Drake have seven.

Drake's career is the stuff of streams

aerosmith tour bus found

Billboard magazine

Drake

If you needed more proof the Canadian rapper is the reigning king of the music world...

Drake has become the first artist to pass 50 billion streams, according to his label Universal.

In My Feelings has spent four weeks at the top of the US Billboard chart (and three at the top of the UK chart) while his double-length album Scorpion has topped the chart for five weeks.

The LP became the first album to hit one billion streams globally in a single week and Drizzy also broke Spotify and Apple Music's single-day streaming record.

He's also coming after Taylor Swift and is apparently close to beating her record for the most times atop the Billboard top 100.

And he has the cheek to rap about being upset. Really Drake. Really?
