TRAVEL AROUND CARDIFF

Cardiff is a compact city and easy to explore….

On Foot

Large parts of the city centre are pedestrianised, so it’s easy to get around on foot. This is also true for the scenic waterfront area of Cardiff Bay , which is within easy walking distance from Cardiff City Centre. Why not explore one of Cardiff’s traffic-free footpaths? We recommend the incredible Taff Trail , which runs for nearly 60 miles from Cardiff Bay, all the way to Brecon.

By Bike

Cardiff is flat , compact and easy to get around using a bike. You’ll find plenty of bike racks around the city centre, and cycle paths like the Taff Trail provide traffic-free routes. Didn’t bring your bike with you? Not to worry! With Pedal Power , it has never been easier to get around Cardiff by bike. The high accessible-for-all bikes are easy to go to, found at both Pontcanna (near the City Centre) and Cardiff Bay.

By Train

There are 20 railway stations in Cardiff, which form part of the South Wales Metro, with Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street being the main central hubs in the city.

There is a shuttle train between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Bay . Regular services run from  Cardiff Queen Street to city stops including  Cathays , Ninian Park and Llandaf , and towards the South Wales valleys. Trains from Cardiff Central station link to the Vale of Glamorgan and South West Wales.

By Bus

Cardiff Bus runs an extensive system throughout Cardiff and the local area, travelling to Penarth and Barry. Pay by contactless or exact cash. Travel in style with City Sightseeing , with an all day hop-on-hop-off service between Cardiff city centre, Cardiff Bay and Cathays.

Cardiff is easy to drive around with the A48 connecting the neighbourhoods of Cardiff before leading into the Vale of Glamorgan. The A470 connects Cardiff with the Rhondda valleys; while the A4232 dual carriageway almost forming an outer ring around the city, all of which help people travel around the city with ease.

If you want to pick up a car to explore Cardiff at your own pace, then you can find global vehicles rental giants such as Enterprise Rent-a-car , Hertz , Avis , Budget and Europcar all having pick-up points at Cardiff Airport and walking distance of the city centre.

By Boat

This is a fun and exciting way to get between the City Centre and Cardiff Bay. If you are departing from Cardiff City Centre, you’ll find the waterbus stop in Bute Park, close to the West Gate entrance and the Holiday Inn hotel. If you are departing from Cardiff Bay then you will depart from the dock located in front of Mermaid Quay and the Pierhead building.

Introducing Cardiff’s brand-new bus interchange

Cardiff Bus Interchange will be a brand-new centralised bus facility with 14 bus bays, various retail units, public toilets and refreshment points.

This exciting new interchange is an integral part of the integrated transport network that we’re building for the people of Wales. As a key part of Cardiff’s transport hub, it’ll offer better connections to and between different transport modes including rail, walking and cycling, within the city and across the region to better suit people’s lifestyle choices. It will connect people with work, health, and leisure opportunities whilst helping people to make more sustainable travel choices.

An easy choice…

Customers are at the heart of the Cardiff Bus Interchange. We want joined-up, sustainable journeys to be the easy choice for everyone.

The interchange will promote the use of public transport and enable seamless connections to and between different transport modes, including rail, walking and cycling, within the city and across the region.

Here to help

We’re here to help our customer to plan their journeys using public transport. The interchange will be a hub for transport information with live travel information and TfW staff on-hand to answer queries face-to-face. Their job is to make services easy and seamless for all to use.

Importantly, the interchange will be accessible to all. It’s been designed with modern travellers in mind to enable people to travel easily regardless of accessibility requirements.

Safety first

The location of the interchange means that customers and visitors will benefit from a light, airy and clean transport hub that is safe and secure thanks to the latest surveillance technology and our friendly security guards.

Navigating our city

We’re working closely with Cardiff Council and other partners to ensure that visitors can easily navigate their way around our capital city. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the sights and attractions that Cardiff has to offer. The new Cardiff Bus Interchange will help to make that happen.
