Travel is picking up, but until we all feel safe to jet off to somewhere exotic again, Orbitz wants to provide you with a stunning mountain, beach or poolside view—a rear view, that is. To that um, end, we’ve partnered with popular travel Instagrammer The Travelin Bum to take us on a virtual tour of the world that’s a bit cheeky (pun intended) . But before heading over to his IG feed for the goods, here is The Travelin Bum founder Jeff Perla on why he’s making the world a more inclusive place, one gorgeous set of cakes at a time!

So Jeff, how did this all start and why bums?

My first butt photo went up in the fall of 2016. I wanted to remain anonymous because I was looking for my first real job out of grad school. I became infatuated by social media and wanted to create a feed showcasing all the places I’ve traveled. And I made it a tradition to take a butt photo whenever I traveled somewhere scenic. I did that for a good 6 months before I even realized I could expand this to other men around the world. Who doesn’t like a nice butt?

Is The Travelin Bum about LGBTQIA empowerment specifically or just body empowerment?

jeff perla travel blogger

My initial mission was to be the gay version of Humans of New York. I was always captivated by their stories and as someone who came out around 2016, thought it would be a good outlet for me to learn how other people came out. As time evolved, more and more stories were shared. I started sharing deeper issues that individuals have faced within the community like being ghosted by a guy or someone telling you he isn’t sexually attracted to you because of your race. My current goal is to create a platform that showcases all body types and ethnicities so people can look at The Travelin Bum and find someone who looks like them.

Why are all the photos featured in nature?

I want to be viewed as [both] art and a travel page. People have sent me photos of them downloading my pictures and framing them in their home. The Travelin Bum will never be one of those accounts that features hot men laying naked in bed just looking for followers.

When did the Travelin Bum’s really take off?

My first “blow up” occurred in 2017 when Elite Daily did an interview with me. I had around 10K followers or something at the time, and they wanted to feature the guy behind the account. Remember I was still anonymous, so I was scared to showcase my identity. I spoke to my mom about the opportunity and she said later on I would look back on my life and regret not doing it. I ended up getting 15K more followers over the course of that week and a lot more press.

What’s it like having the world look at your bum?

jeff perla travel blogger

If you can visually catch someone’s eye on social media, they will listen to what you are saying. So I enjoy being able to vocalize my opinions and feel as though the world hears what I’m saying. On the other side of things, I have been in public and men immediately assume they can touch me because they have seen my butt on social media. So you take the good with the bad, I guess, haha.

Tell us why you’re excited to partner with Orbuttz, um Orbitz.

I love the idea around Orbuttz.  Travel has been fairly non-existent for the past year and what better way to bring people together than to showcase a takeover of an array of people in the LGBTQ community celebrating Valentine’s Day safely from their current cities? Also, I think a lot of companies only reach out to LGBTQ accounts during Pride month because they care how their brand looks and want to look inclusive. Orbitz isn’t one of those companies. They celebrate the LGBTQ community all year round and understand that everyone has a story that deserves to be shared. My goal of this partnership is to bring people together no matter what city you may live in. I know we have all gone through a lot this year and Valentine’s Day can be one of those days that catches us in our feelings. So I hope this brings a smile to people’s faces.

What have follower reactions been like?

I have some of the most supportive followers in the world. Whether you are a celebrity or a young kid in college, we can all find common ground on The Travelin Bum. People have told me it’s helped them come out. They’ve said it’s helped them feel better about themselves knowing someone has gone through what they’ve gone through. Just the other day I received a message that said, “thank you for tagging me in your story,” because then a man messaged him, they went on a few dates, fast forward to today they just got married on January 17th!

Wow! Is that the most moving story a follower has ever shared?

One of the most moving stories that I will always remember, which to be honest gave me the real direction for The Travelin Bum, was in 2017. A guy messaged me this black and white butt photo [of him] walking down the road and the caption was all about how he came out. He was in his 40s, married to a woman with children, and he shared how heartbreaking it was for him to tell his family he was gay. It shows that no matter what age you are, it can be a struggle for anyone to come out.

‘The One That Got Away’ Status Check: Which Couples From the Prime Video Series Are Still Together

The One That Got Away Status Check Which Couples From the Prime Video Series Are Still Together

Looking back to find love? Prime Video’s dating series,  The One That Got Away , matches a group of six competitors searching for romance with missed connections from their past.

The  reality series, which dropped on the streaming platform in June 2022 , followed six singles who are looking for love. While they hoped to eventually find The One during their tenure on the dating experiment, host Betty Who revealed in the first episode that all of their suitors would  be familiar faces . The show ’s  stars connected with former friends, unrequited high school crushes and even one-time flames after they arrived at the retreat through a “portal.”

“I walked away from the season feeling very optimistic about the ways that people can change and show up for you,” the “Somebody Loves You” songstress told The List ahead of the series premiere. “That’s something that’s really exciting to me, and probably the piece of advice I would give is that people can really change. You got to give people a chance to show you who they are now, and that’s a really special part, and we’re going to see a lot of that in this season of  The One That Got Away .”

She added: “I will say there is a soft spot that I felt for  [contestant]   Jeff [Perla] and his story line of finding himself . I don’t want to give spoilers away, but there are a couple moments that I was really rooting for Jeff, and I was watching him behind the scenes [and saying to him], ‘You got this, babe.’ If there was one contestant who I felt like I had a close eye on, it might have been Jeff.”

Throughout  the show, travel blogger Jeff struggled to open up to his potential matches, including his former confirmation classmate Anthony , his coworker Micah  and his longtime friend Alex Van Gurp.

“I found the people who [come] through [the portal] bring you back to who you were back then … and when I saw him come through it kind of gave me [this] wave of ,  ‘OMG, that’s what I used to feel like,’” Jeff admitted during the first episode. “It was really interesting trying to navigate each individual person and relationship, and how they came into your life to begin with.”

Elsewhere on the show, viewers met model Allyssa Anderson , who was ready to settle down and get married.

“I’m a huge believer in spirituality. I think that in a lot of ways this was just serendipity ,” she gushed to the camera. “I felt when I was presented with this show it was a stroke of fate, and I really had to take that leap and not look back.”

Despite attempting to pursue connections with her former high school crush, her school bus buddy and an Instagram admirer, it was family friend Adam Drexler  who  won her heart.

“This is a promise to you that no matter what happens and no matter where life takes us, I’m always going to support you and I’m always going to be there for you,”  Adam  gushed  during  the finale, presenting her with a promise ring as they exited through the portal together.

Ashley Algarin and Quinn Wentzel

The X-ray technician was shocked when her ex-boyfriend walked through the portal — and immediately proclaimed he still loved her. Despite hesitations about his readiness to take the next step, the pair left the show together early after Ashley invited Quinn to move into her new house.

While the couple have yet to publicly address how their relationship ended after the show, the model announced in April 2022 that she was expecting her first child, a baby girl, that August. Ashley did not confirm the baby’s paternity at the time.

Nigel Sydnor and Desiree ‘Dezi’

While Nigel had several strong connections throughout season 1, he ended up pursuing his romance with Dezi, whom he frequently works with, and they left through the portal together.

The real estate agent has also remained mum about where their relationship stands since leaving the show.

jeff perla travel blogger

Vince Xu and Yurika Yoneda

Vince proposed to Yurika, a former high school friend who went to prom with his group of pals, during the series finale after she won over his faithful pup, Leo.

While Vince and Yurika have remained coy about their season 1 engagement, Vince offered a sweet tribute to his former high school classmate — and his other contenders — via Instagram in June 2022. “I would be remiss if I didn’t show my absolute gratitude to the incredible women that took a leap of faith and opened themselves to the possibility of finding a reconnection with me,” he wrote. “They truly are the reason why 'the bar' was set so high for everyone coming through the portal and I’m so thankful to have been given the privilege to date such beautiful, intelligent, sweet, and kind-hearted women 🙏.”

Yurika replied: “So grateful that we reconnected & thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey on the show!”

Despite leaving the show together, the pair announced in July 2022 that they called off their whirlwind engagement.

“The transition from the show to real life was difficult and we struggled with navigating the distance between us and quickly faced the sobering reality of trying to meet each others’ expectations for the relationship. It’s safe to say, this wasn’t a normal relationship whatsoever,” they wrote in a joint Instagram statement. “But more so, we simply weren’t ready to tackle these obstacles, since after all, we didn’t have enough time to establish a solid foundation.”

They added: “We took some time and space away from each other to focus on ourselves and our own lives. Maybe we’ll talk more in detail about this another time; but as much as we both wanted that fairy tale ending, we decided to go our separate ways.”

Jeff Perla and Alex Van Gurp

After being “besties with benefits” for several years, Jeff ended up asking Alex to officially be his boyfriend during the season 1 finale.

While the pair have yet to confirm their dating status since the show wrapped, they continue to pop up on one another’s social media profiles.

jeff perla travel blogger

Allyssa Anderson and Adam Drexler

Allyssa eagerly accepted a diamond promise ring from her beau during the finale as they left to start their next chapter together.

The duo have also remained mum about where they stand, but Allyssa gushed about her experience after the show premiered. She wrote via Instagram : “#theonethatgotaway was a mind-opening, heartwarming experience. I made new friends, reconnected with old ones, and ultimately became a changed person on the other side. Never settle for less than the love you deserve… your fairytale ending could be just a portal opening away💫💕.”

Kasey Ma and Simon Fung

Though Simon arrived at the experiment late, Kasey felt a connection with her former collegiate classmate and hoped to see where things could go in the future.

While the pair haven’t made their relationship Instagram official, Simon did give Kasey photo credit on a June 2022 snap taken in NYC, seemingly indicating they remained on good terms.

The twosome eventually went their separate ways after leaving the portal together.

"I am still single, have dated around for a bit, but have been slowing down recently. I am mainly focusing on myself and becoming stronger and more independent each and every day," Kasey wrote via Instagram in July 2022, noting she has since relocated to Los Angeles as Simon moved to New York City. "If a man wants to grace me with his presence and be a wonderful addition to my life, I will welcome him with open arms. But gone are the days where I believe I need a man to complete my life."

‘The One That Got Away’s Jeff Perla Gives Update On His Relationship: ‘We’re Definitely Together’

Jeff Perla got his happily ever after on 'The One That Got Away.' HL spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Jeff about his relationship status with Alex Van Gurp and more.

Jeff Alex

The One That Got Away is unlike any dating series you’ve ever seen before. Six singles, including Jeff Perla , were given the chance to explore a lifetime of missed connections in hopes of finding love. The journey was a happy one for Jeff. He is now officially in a relationship with his “bestie with benefits” Alex Van Gurp . HollywoodLife got EXCLUSIVE scoop from Jeff about keeping his relationship with Alex until the show was released.

Jeff Alex

“To be honest, it was kind of hot because Alex and I had this secret that just both of us had for a whole year. We didn’t tell our family. We didn’t tell our friends. Nobody knew anything for a whole year,” Jeff told HollywoodLife . “There’s obviously always rumors that’s like, oh, they’re dating. We just never confirmed anything with anybody, so I literally called my friends and my family and his family maybe three days before it came out. We were like, ‘Hey, just so you know.’ It was really funny.”

Jeff said that their families were “really happy” for both of them. As for what their status is right now, Jeff revealed, “I’m not engaged. We’re definitely together. We have some fun things in the works that we’re working on, so projects will be revealed soon, but not yet.”

While keeping their relationship a secret, Jeff and Alex didn’t have to change things up too much since they already spent so much time together. “Well, I think with any relationship the secret aspect is fun in and of itself,” Jeff admitted. “I love just going out with our friends and then you’re drunk and sneak in the bathroom to give each other a kiss and laugh about how they have no idea what’s going on. We still did our usual things with everybody. We travel all the time together anyway, so there were really no red flags to anybody watching because there was nothing different necessarily.”

Jeff and Alex are very happy with where their relationship stands right now. However, Jeff admitted that he was initially “comparing” his relationship with the other couples on the show.

“Obviously, when you’re on a dating show, you’re comparing relationships, right?” Jeff revealed. “So in the beginning, when I saw all these relationships flourishing I felt like… as we all saw, I got rid of everybody at one point. I was alone. And I was just sitting there wondering why is this not working for me? That was due to the fact that I’m looking at all these other relationships where they feel so strongly about one another, and I’m like, why don’t I have that? You can’t compare your relationship to their relationships. But Alex and I are on a completely different trajectory. I feel like we both are very similar in what we want out of life. And if people feel like, right away, they want to get engaged, go for it. But I am not that person. I wanted to make sure things were going to work outside of the show. I want to make sure this is so authentic. We needed to have conversations after this, and we just sat down and dished on everything.”

Jeff Alex

Given that Jeff has found the love he’s been looking for with The One That Got Away , the travel blogger urged potential contestants in the future to take a chance on second chances. “I would say this for anybody: if somebody comes back into your life and wants a second chance, or whatever the case may be, maybe you just didn’t have that relationship connection at the time, just hear them out and give them that chance,” he told HollywoodLife . The One That Got Away is now available on Prime Video.

The One That Got Away: Where Are They Now?

Kriti Mehrotra of The One That Got Away: Where Are They Now?

As a reality dating series that dredges up a group of singles’ pasts to help them find their future in the form of true love, Amazon Prime Video’s ‘The One That Got Away’ is unlike any other. It essentially focuses on second chances and missed connections rather than encounters with strangers, leading to bonds — whether platonic or romantic — that can only be described as wholesome. So now that we’ve seen the incredible way season 1 plays out, let’s learn precisely what its final couples, as well as a few other prominent cast members, are up to these days, shall we?

Where Are Ashley and Quinn Now?

Following some trying drama with both her “Work Convention Hero” Kyle and her “Social Media Stud” Taylor, the entry of Ashley Algarin’s ex-boyfriend Quinn Wentzel turned her entire world upside down. She soon realized she needed someone who was not only kind and compassionate but would also accept her despite every single one of her flaws, driving her to reunite with Quinn for good.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ashley Algarin (@ashley.algarin)

Ashley and Quinn had left the production early (in episode 8), yet it doesn’t appear as if they were able to make their involvement last. However, it’s not something either seems hung up about, primarily because the latter is currently devoted to his racing career, whereas the former is preparing to welcome a baby girl around mid-August 2022. Moreover, Ashley is a part-time model, a vocation she maintains while continuing to serve as a CT/X-ray technician at a local hospital in her home state of Ohio.

Where Are Vince and Yurika Now?

The spark between Vince and Yurika was undeniable from the get-go, which is why it came as no surprise when he decided to conclude their experience by getting down on one knee. After describing what he felt as both real as well as magical, he declared, “I love you. I love you. I love you. Will you marry me?” to which she shyly yet happily replied, “of course!” The two adorably sincere individuals thus stepped into the everyday world hand in hand, only to face the actualities of long-term long distance.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vince (@vincexu)

While Vince Xu is based in Los Angeles, Yurika Yoneda has gone from San Francisco to Japan and then from Los Angeles to San Francisco again before settling in New York City, at least, for the moment. With that said, though, their indirect interactions on social media do suggest they could still be together, so we’re staying optimistic until (if they ever) reveal otherwise. We should mention that the dog dad to an English Staffy named Leo is a personal injury attorney, whereas the UCLA graduate is a consultancy professional.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Yurika Yoneda (@yurika.yoneda)

Where Are Jeff and Alex Now?

Jeff Perla and Alex Van Gurp have honestly been through every stage of a relationship to exist; strangers, friends, dates, friends with benefits, best friends, and then much more. Unfortunately, that’s precisely why even their online presence is no help in discerning whether they’re romantically involved or just mates again at the moment. We know they continue to remain in touch and seem to have a great understanding of each other, but nothing more concrete — it hence just leaves us hopeful.

jeff perla travel blogger

As for their whereabouts, both Jeff and Alex presently appear to reside in East Hampton in New York, where the latter, in particular, works in financial consultancy as an employee at Ernst & Young (EY). On the other hand, Jeff is a lifestyle-based correspondent for Luxxeliving as well as the founder of a travel blog aptly named The Travelin Bum. He’s a digital creator through and through.

Where Are Kasey and Simon Now?

Kasey Ma had decided to join the cast of ‘The One That Got Away’ to give love another shot, and she did find it, albeit within herself. She was healing from two heartbreaks — the loss of her mother to cancer as well as the end of a 7½-year relationship — and Simon Fung still managed to help her see her self-worth. Therefore, they walked out of “the portal” together, but they’d agreed on “no commitment. Let’s see where it takes us.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kasey Ma ❥♬ (@kaseyma)

It’s unclear whether Kasey and Simon managed to maintain their connection or not, yet they do remain friends, as evidenced by their communication in the form of likes/comments on networking sites. Coming to their professional standing, while Los Angeles/New York City-based Kasey is still a twitch streamer who also focuses on the fashion, travel, and beauty industries, MBA-graduate Simon is a strategy consultant residing in Brooklyn.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Simon Fung (@simonsays.what)

Where Are Allyssa and Adam Now?

Since Allyssa and Adam had left upon professing their love for each other following his sweet gesture of getting down on one knee to present her with a promise ring, we believe they’re still involved. After all, not only had their values aligned to a tee while they were learning who their potential partner really was, but today they also seem to stay in touch on social media. They haven’t shared any posts as of writing or given us an explicit hint, yet their subtle interactions on promotional uploads or via likes/comments keep us optimistic.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Allyssa Anderson (@allyssaanderson)

As an approximately 6-foot tall model, Allyssa Anderson has actually dubbed herself a “professional tall girl” on her Instagram page, and Adam Drexler is even taller than her. He’s the son of basketball Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler, a professionally renowned basketball athlete himself, and a passionate music composer. With the way these two are currently focusing on their professional aspirations, it’s clear their journey is only just beginning.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Adam Drexler (@drexglides2)

Where Are Nigel and Dezi Now?

Despite everything they went through, it doesn’t look like Nigel Sydnor and Desiree “Dezi” are still together, especially as his relationship status on Facebook reads “single” loud and clear. Thus, moving to his individual standing, we should mention that he resides in Los Angeles, California, at the moment, where he serves in the real estate investing industry, dabbles in e-commerce, and is the owner of Elevations Barbers Lounge. Unfortunately, on the flip side, we couldn’t find any public information on Dezi.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nigel Sydnor (@nigelsydnor)

Where is Dylan Palladino Now?

Dylan Palladino was the first to step out of “the portal” for Kasey Ma, and it did appear as if they’d end up together despite their misunderstandings, that is, until Simon came along. However, he seems perfectly content with his present situation, especially as he leads a comfortable life in New York. That’s because he’s not only a stand-up comedian as well as the co-host of the ‘Why Do Guys…?’ podcast alongside Usama Siddiquee, but he also still has Kasey as a friend.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CfMSjV5ABEq/

Where is Anthony Wright Now?

Although Anthony Wright didn’t get his heart’s desire out of his connection with Jeff Perla, he hasn’t let it dim his spark one bit. In other words, the New Yorker continues to be loud and proud about who he is in the city as a photographer, a musician, and a dancer — or as he likes to call it, “Picture taker 📸 Music maker 🎼 Dance breaker💃🏽.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anthony Wright | The One That Got Away (@antsinyapantzz)

Where is Kyle Freeman Now?

There’s honestly no other or better way to introduce Dr. Kyle Freeman as “Ashley’s Work Convention Hero,” as mentioned above. Yet the truth is that he’s much more than the physical therapist he was painted out to be in the Amazon original series. The Las Vegas, Nevada, resident is also a personal life and sex coach who guides anyone interested in leading more authentic experiences through their erotic energy.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kyle Dean Freeman (@drkyledean)

Where is Alicia Nelms Now?

Alicia Nelms was the first woman to walk through “the portal” for Nigel Sydnor, and she stayed almost right until the end. The best part, though, was that their parting was rather mutual, meaning she had the best possible experience before moving on to be her true self. From what we can tell, she’s still spiritual, plant-based, and based in Los Angeles, where she serves as a hairstylist, photographer, and aspiring entrepreneur. Her website, for trading in jade/crystal accessories, will be launching soon.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Alicia Nelms 🍄 (@sassyleesh)

Where is Travis M. Now?

Travis was one of the most thoughtful and endearing dates to be a part of this reality production, yet Allyssa Anderson didn’t feel the spark for even a moment. Not to worry, though; he has since moved on to achieve a lot more, at least professionally. The Houston, Texas native, or as he refers to himself, the Acrobatic Rappin’ Addict, recently released his EP ‘Misfits,’ which you can listen to on every mainstream music platform right now.

The Travelin' Bum Influencer Jeff Perla Q&A | Pride Perspective

By James Dinh

February 25, 2019

jeff perla travel blogger

Pride Perspective is a recurring feature, where we profile LGBTQ content creators in the worlds of music, entertainment and social media, who are intent on making the world a queerer place.

LGBTQ coming out stories are special. They may not always have a happy ending, but they prove to be pivotal moments that help shape our perception of sexuality. And in the digital age of feeds and followers, we all have the urge to share our stories. That is, in part, what's enticing about a platform like The Travelin' Bum , the growing Instagram feed dedicated to bums and coming out tales from all over the world.

As per founder Jeff Perla, The Travelin' Bum's sole purpose is to allow men (and even the occasional woman) to let go of hesitation and spread queer self-empowerment by means of baring butts. Started in 2016, the account kicked off with a spontaneous moment of flesh for Perla and a friend in front of Niagara Falls. He wasn't out at the time, but the post generated traction and inspired him to think about how he could help others share their coming out stories or experiences as members of the LGBTQ community. After some massive popularity, the 25-year-old had to follow his own lead and come out of the closet himself, merging his then-anonymity of his brand with his personal identity. In our latest installment of Pride Perspective, iHeartRadio spoke to the creator about his platform, maintaining a healthy headspace with social media and what famous butts he'd love to see featured on The Travelin' Bum.

View this post on Instagram @thetravelinbum 1/100: Today is the first day of gay pride month and it’s a month I thought I would never celebrate. I kept my secret close to home my whole life because I was embarrassed and never knew anyone like me. When I went to college my lies continued until I met people who knew me better than I knew myself. I was sitting in the middle of grad class and @faz_world forced me to say the hardest statement that ever came out of my mouth, I’m gay. I’m grateful everyday for that moment and that awkward memory that made me who I am today. When this month comes around it’s always a blessing to remember where you started and where you came from. It’s a constant reminder of how much I have grown as a person. For anyone still in the closet don’t rush the process, enjoy it, you will figure it out. There is a community of loving people waiting for you and I am proud to be one of them. Happy pride month, you deserve it 🏳️‍🌈 📸:@austinunes #TBpride A post shared by Jeff Perla (@jeffperlaa) on Jun 1, 2018 at 5:58am PDT

Part of what makes The Travelin' Bum so special is that it’s intertwined with your own story. How have your parents reacted to your social media initiative?

My parents do not use social media but everyone else in our family and their friend group does. Even if they didn’t want to see it, a family member or one of their friends screenshots it and sends it to them so they are always in the loop. It has been fun to watch my parents grow as well though from this because I think, at first, it’s a lot for any father or mother to see their son taking a butt picture on social media. But they have been super supportive throughout the whole concept and my coming out, which has been great to watch.

What has been the most moving story you've featured on the account?

Recently, the story I loved most was from this guy who I met in NYC actually. He shared a story about him and his grandmothers relationship. He said one birthday she gave him a pen with a women on it and when when you clicked it her clothes came off. When his grandmother showed his mother she said, 'I don’t think this suits him.' At the time, no one knew he was gay. However, his grandmother took that as "Oh he must like men," so she got him the same pen but of a man. His grandmother gave him the pen and said, "Open this alone." He never got to tell his grandmother that he was gay but he likes to think she always knew.

As someone that has grown a popular following, how do you maintain a healthy headspace with the constant pressures of social media in 2019?

I think it is super difficult but one helpful thing I have learned to do is have two phones. One of my phones doesn’t even have social media on it just so I can avoid the whole thing. I love it and it’s truly amazing to watch something I care so much about grow. However, sometimes you just need a break and you want to see your friends, or go on a date, and, in those times, I just leave that phone home, so I can’t even look at it. I sometimes find myself waking up at 630 AM and I don’t leave my bed 'till 830 because all I did was go through my messages and get lost in my phone.

TB highlights representation of all kinds, but it's occasionally met with detractors. How do you go about showcasing diversity when you know it might not please all of the audience?

This is probably the most difficult thing I deal with day to day. Everyone has a story or a photo and wants me to post it, but above all else, the photo quality needs to be good. After all, this is Instagram. It should be a quality photo. It’s difficult for me to reject people or not post people because they equate me saying, "Hey, I need a high quality or better photo' as 'Oh, it’s because I’m fat or oh I am not muscular, white etc." and that isn’t the case at all.

In regards to the photos that do get posted that may not be your stereotypical gay male body, in the beginning the comments were awful and I would try and go through and delete all the bad ones, but now I think people understand the concept. Last year when I posted the first plus size man, I remember telling him don’t let the comments bring you down. I think I lost 1,000 followers. It was weird. Now, when I post someone plus size or diverse, people comment and are super supportive, which I love watching.

I ask because you recently showcased your friend/trans activist Corey Rae and the post was met with a bit of a mixed reaction. Is that disheartening to know that some just don't understand the mission statement of TB?

I think there is always going to be mixed reactions on everything I do and I have had to learn how to deal with it. My friend Corey was an interesting post because it was my first time posting someone who wasn’t a man. When you read the comments, I love seeing all of the positive people and the messages they share. On the other side of things, I think it’s funny how some gay men in our community are quick to bash someone else and yet wonder why people don’t accept them. To me, that is what is disheartening because I think people need to learn to accept one another and not be so quick to judge, especially when you read the caption of someone pouring their heart out and you leave a dick comment. You just look dumb at that point.

You’ve expanded your platform with an accompanying website and even a merchandise line. Where would you like to see TB go from here?

Currently, I'm working on a podcast, so that has been my most recent venture. I have been working on a potential art installation for Pride, along with my usual drag brunches on Sundays. I am always open to new ideas and concepts with no idea where this is going to take me. For right now, I am just enjoying it, getting to travel and meet new people has really been an experience. I hope it never ends and it continues to grow and if someone has a creative avenue for expansion feel free to message me.

What famous face from the LGBTQ+ community would you love to see featured on TB? Why?

I would love to see more famous people share their stories. For example, maybe Troye Sivan or even Kim Petras . I think every Instagram influencer is down to show their butt and share their story but when you reach a certain caliber of people, from musicians or actors, they are nervous to share due to the chance they may not get hired for another job or a brand might not want to work with them. I think everyone in the LGBTQ has an interesting story to share and for those two people, who have grown so much and accomplished amazing things, I feel like I personally would just love to hear their stories.

Only 2 The One That Got Away Couples Are Still Together

One cast member from Season 1 had a baby.

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 21: (L-R) Jeff Perla, Kasey Ma, Vince Xu, Ashley Algarin, Allyssa An...

On Prime Video’s “time-traveling, experimental dating series” The One That Got Away , six singles search for their soulmates through various missed connections, whether it be a high school crush, a co-worker, or an ex. One by one, someone from each of the contestant’s pasts enters TOTGA’ s world through a mystical “portal,” giving them another chance at finding love together. By the end of Season 1’s ten-episode run, all six singles left the Betty Who-hosted show with a partner — though it appears not all of them are still together.

Below, the series’ core six singles — Ashley Algarin, Nigel Sydnor, Kasey Ma, Vince Xu, Jeff Perla, and Allyssa Anderson — update Bustle on where all of their TOTGA relationships stand now since filming ended in August 2021.

Ashley & Quinn

After leaving TOTGA early in Episode 8, Ashley says she and Quinn Wentzel were still “on a trial” when she stepped in to take care of her ailing grandmother for several weeks until she passed. “There wasn't really any support there from Quinn,” Ashley explains, adding that she expected more from her boyfriend, who she says continued racing and working on his bikes. That’s when Ashley “quickly realized he just wasn't the one” for her. “It allowed me to be able to move on, and gave me closure,” she says. She still has no regrets about her early TOTGA departure. “We really don’t talk anymore, but I don’t have any hard feelings towards Quinn.”

Shortly afterward, the CT scan technologist took a contract in Pittsburgh, Ohio, where she met a “wonderful E.R. nurse who really swept me off my feet” named Alan Andrews. The pair eventually moved in together and, and Ashley announced she was expecting a baby girl in August 2022. “I’m looking forward to having a little mini-me and being able to hold her,” she previously told Bustle. “I already feel so bonded with her.”

Ashley gave birth to their daughter, Riley Rosalena Andrews , on Aug. 21. “Welcome to the world baby girl,” the new mom captioned the baby’s birth announcement and first photo on Instagram.

Nigel & Dezi

Meanwhile, Nigel left the show to repair his once-failed romance with real estate business partner Desiree, aka Dezi. Nigel says they spent a lot of time after TOTGA, talking about everything from their parents, how much they’d grown, and ultimately, what they wanted their future to look like. But unfortunately, they are no longer together. Since then, Nigel shared that he’s “dated multiple people” and currently has “a really special person” in his life. “ The One That Got Away really taught me a lot about myself and what I'm looking for when it comes to dating,” the myZorro CEO said, adding that there’s “not much [he] would do differently” on the Prime Video series, in hindsight.

On Oct. 9, Nigel shared several romantic photos with his pharmacist girlfriend , known professionally as Dr. Robin B . “The best pic I ever posted,” he captioned the Instagram birthday tribute. “My favorite person in the world. I’m your number one fan. Why wouldn’t I tell everyone?”

Kasey & Simon

Kasey exited through the portal with Simon Fung — and a “no commitment” plan to see where things would go in “the real world.” Kasey says they “definitely tried to make things work out,” but the distance proved to be too much of an issue. (She thought Simon was going to move to California, but “several family obligations” caused him to remain in New York.) “So it didn’t work out, but we’re still on good terms,” Kasey adds. “If we’re visiting each other’s city, we’ll definitely see each other. We’re still cordial.”

While she’s dating right now, Kasey, for the first time in her life, has been single for more than six months and is focusing on herself. “I’m just really making sure that I'm a confident person on my own before settling down and committing to someone,” she says.

Though she has yet to publicly reveal any new relationship updates since July, Kasey and Vince have become “besties” — but insist they’re not dating .

Vince & Yurika

After having no contact for over 10 years, Vince got engaged to his high school “prom queen” Yurika Yoneda on TOTGA. He says they “were so happy and really excited for the future” after getting engaged. But the transition from the show to real life turned up several issues, including navigating a long-distance relationship — she’s in New York City, while he lives in Los Angeles — and “just emotionally calming down, because everything on the show was so heightened.”

In the end, Vince and Yurika decided to split up but remain friends, though he hinted in July that a reconciliation could be in their future. “There is kind of a newfound possibility of a second chance that just recently opened up for us,” Vince teased. “And I'm really considering the possibility of exploring that second chance with her. But as of right now, I'm single.”

In October 2022, it remains unclear if Vince and Yurika are together, but the fact they haven’t posted any photos together isn’t a great sign.

Jeff & Alex

Before joining TOTGA , Jeff struggled with opening up but soon realized he wanted a relationship and to be in love. While he was scared to “blur the lines” with Alex Van Gurp, his “bestie with benefits” of three years, Jeff finally asked him to be his boyfriend in the finale, and he accepted. Almost a year later, they’re still together . “When we got home, we talked everything out about the experience, and we just realized this is the right next step for both of us,” says the LGBTQ+ travel blogger, who splits his time between NYC and East Hampton. Given the chance to change anything about his TOTGA experience, Jeff “probably would have tried to cry less,” but overall he was happy with how everything turned out.

On Oct. 31, the couple gave an exciting update on their living arrangement . “I’m so happy I could cry we finally PASSED our final inspection! Time to make this construction site a home,” Jeff captioned an Instagram photo tagged in East Hampton. “Don’t want to make it long but thank you to everyone who has encouraged us and helped us along the way! We did it.”

Allyssa & Adam

While it appeared like Adam Drexler proposed to her during the TOTGA season finale, Allyssa explains that he gave her a “promise ring,” rather than an engagement ring when he got down on one knee. “It’s been a year now, and we have been going strong!” she told Bustle in July 2022, adding that they lived in Houston, Texas for most of the year. (They were long-distance while Adam played basketball in Indonesia.) At the time, Adam had been playing Big 3 basketball and Allyssa had recently walked in her first New York Fashion Week show. After spending the year traveling together and working on their careers, they were “about to take the next step” and move in together in Los Angeles. As she summed up, “I'm just very grateful for the relationship that we've had and looking forward to every moment that we get to spend together.”

As of October 2022, they were still going strong , as evidenced by Allyssa’s gushy birthday tribute to Adam, in which she called him “the most amazing man in the world,” among other compliments. “It has truly been a joy to see your handsome face every day, to dance the night away with you, and best of all: to call you mine,” she wrote in part. “You’re everything I’ve always wanted in a partner and so so so much more. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world, and I thank you for helping me to be the best woman I could be for you every single day.”

The One That Got Away Couple Jeff Perla & Alex Van Gurp Break Up (Exclusive)

Alex Van Gurp and Jeff Perla

The former couple shared an official joint statement with Out .

Jeff Perla and Alex Van Gurp made their reality TV debut on Amazon Prime Video’s dating series The One That Got Away . Hence the title, the premise of the show was to reunite couples who had a lot of potential in their respective relationships but ended up going their separate ways.

The One That Got Away was a queer-inclusive dating series hosted by Betty Who and it was definitely exciting to watch a gay couple trying to make amends and work things out. Overall, Van Gurp and Perla both put in the work and stayed together after filming the show. Alas, Out can now officially confirm that they have broken up.

Perla and Van Gurp shared an exclusive joint statement with Out that reads:

“I think adding so much pressure to a new relationship added challenges that we didn’t expect. With so much time, energy and money involved with the house, it started to feel more like a job than it did a relationship, and I think after a while we realized it was better to end it before we started to resent each other and at least still had a chance of being friends and staying co-owners in our house and business partners. We still have a lot of respect and love for each other but recognized we were going down a bad path. At the end of the day, we couldn’t play house forever.”

It is unfortunate that things didn’t work out for Van Gurp and Perla, but the former couple seems at peace with their breakup and they are able to remain friends. At the end of the day, the goal is for people to achieve peace and happiness, whether that is in or out of a particular relationship .

We wish Perla and Van Gurp nothing but the best in their personal and professional lives!

21 U.S. Travel Bloggers Worth Following

21 u.s. travel bloggers everyone with wanderlust should be following.

Travel Blogger

If being a travel blogger sounds like a dream job — well, it kind of is. Writers across America spend their days exploring fantastic sights in dozens of exotic countries, documenting what they experience and making a living as they go.

But that doesn’t mean the job is easy. Most professional travelers have made impressive sacrifices to follow their dreams, whether it's by selling all of their belongings, living in small apartments with several roommates, or just living very simply. Superb travel blogging also takes a unique knack for making extraordinary travel experiences resonate with the masses.

Here, we’ve rounded up some of the most engaging and inspirational travel bloggers across the U.S. And yes, a little bit of jealousy is OK.

A Dangerous Business

Amanda of the Dangerous Business blog

The blogger behind A Dangerous Business is Amanda, who decided in high school that she wanted to travel. An avid Lord of the Rings fan, she was determined to visit New Zealand and spent two weeks there in 2005. She has since been to over 50 countries on six continents.

With the hopes of traveling more, Amanda started A Dangerous Business in 2010, but isn't a full-time traveler. She enjoys the comforts of home — and her beloved cat — far too much. Instead, she created the blog as a hobby and a way to combat boredom at work. In 2015, after earning her Master's degree in Tourism Management, she went full-time as a blogger.

The goal of A Dangerous Business is to help people find ways to fit travel into their lives. Amanda works with global brands and destinations to create bucket-list-style travel trips, and has been featured on The Huffington Post and USA Today Travel .

Follow Amanda on her adventures by visiting her on Facebook and Instagram .

The Seattle blogger has been featured in Forbes , The Independent and The Huffington Post . TIME Magazine also called her work “clever,” while The New York Times described her as "dark and hilarious."

These assessments are evident when you explore The Everywherist, which showcases Geraldine's dry wit. Check out her Facebook page and Instagram page to keep up with her shenanigans.

The Blonde Abroad

The award-winning travel and lifestyle blog, The Blonde Abroad , is run by California native Kiersten Rich. She left her job in corporate finance to become a world traveler, and has now been to over 50 countries.

Through her blog, Kiersten hopes to inspire people to live a life they love and not settle for anything less. The Blonde Abroad is a multi-level business that allows Kiersten to earn an income through various streams of revenue. She offers social media and marketing consulting, content creation and blog mentorship retreats, and takes all-expenses-paid press trips to produce content for brands.

She's hitchhiked across China, taken a 35-day safari to Africa and spent two months hiking in Patagonia. She even became a Buddhist nun for 10 days. Her blog focuses on solo travel and outdoor adventures like hiking, camping and scuba diving.

New content is posted on Be My Travel Muse every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, offering readers ways to make the most of their travels. Kristin shares packing lists, country cost guides and exercise tips for novice and expert travelers from all around the world.

Local Adventurer

Esther from Local Adventurer

Each year, travel bloggers Esther and Jacob of Local Adventurer move to a new city. The Atlanta natives decided on a year in each spot because it's enough time to discover amazing spots in each new place, without being too permanent. After moving across the country and realizing that they hadn't gotten to know their hometown as well as they should have, they decided to get out and explore.

Esther and Jacob travel full-time but focus on local destinations. They seek to find adventure in everyday life, seeing the world through a childlike lens that highlights the beauty in even the most mundane things.

My Beautiful Adventures

Andi Perullo de Ledesma

Chinese medicine doctor and travel photojournalist Andrea (Andi) Perullo de Ledesma is a Charlotte, N.C., resident and blogger who runs My Beautiful Adventures . She's a native southerner but has lived in seven states and been to over 50 countries on six continents.

She claims to live a very dichotomous life because she struggles with wanting to capture the world on film through travel and focusing on her experience practicing Chinese medicine, which she considers her true calling.

Andi's love affair with travel can be credited to her intrigue of diverse cultures, roads not traveled and life-changing experiences. During her time traveling the world, she met an Argentinean man, Lucas, who she married in Buenos Aires after five years of a long-distance relationship.

In 2015, Andi had a son, Joaquin, whom she calls her "most beautiful adventure yet."

Jeff Greenwald, World’s 1st Travel Blogger & Founder of Ethical Traveler

THE WORLD’S FIRST TRAVEL BLOGGER

I first knew of Jeff Greenwald as the founder of  Ethical Traveler , which annually publishes a list of the World’s Top 10 Ethical Travel Destinations. Ideologically, his organization and ours are perfectly aligned.

It wasn’t until fairly recently that we learned that Greenwald, a successful travel writer for outlets such as the San Francisco Chronicle and Wired magazine, also happened to be the world’s first travel blogger.

As documented in his 1996 book, The Size of the World , Greenwald was hired by Global Network Navigator to post travel stories to the World Wide Web during his 1993-1994 overland journey around the world. It was the first time the then-new Internet technology had been used for travel blogging.

Greenwald, who still blogs on occasion, has gone on to become a successful author (his sixth book, Snake Lake , was published in 2010) and performer, touring with his one-man show “Strange Travel Suggestions.” He was kind enough to spend more than an hour chatting with us about everything from that very first travel blog post in January of 1994 to his views on travel blogging today.

Travel Writer Jeff Greenwald, 1994

How did you get into travel writing, and what attracted you to the field?

I never set out to be a travel writer. In 1979, I was working as a sculptor. I went to Europe to sculpt marble for 3 months. Instead I met a beautiful young woman in Greece who was going to a place I’d never heard of– Nepal . I ended up living there with her for a few months.

Then we went to Thailand , right when the Cambodian civil war started. We were hired as volunteers at the first refugee camp on the Thai-Cambodian border, called Khao-I-Dang.

When I got back to the States, I wrote a story about my experience at the camps. The Santa Barbara News published the story, and called me the following week to ask if I would be their Cultural Features Editor. That’s how my career as a writer started.

In 1983, the Rotary Foundation gave me a fellowship to return to Katmandu to work on a book, because I’d been so completely smitten with the country. I lived there over a year and wrote my first book , Mr. Raja’s Neighborhood . While I was there, I began doing stories for other magazines. Four of my six books are set in Nepal, and it continues to have an enormous artistic, literary, and spiritual impact on my life and career.

Jeff Greenwald 1994

In 1993, you said that you didn’t feel like a real traveler. Can you explain?

I’d been to all of these exotic countries as a travel journalist, but there was this sense that I hadn’t really gone anywhere. I felt like I’d cheated. I’d arrive in a country like Morocco, Nepal or Peru , but why did I deserve to be there?

I’d simply set foot on an airplane, sat down and had cocktails for six hours, and there I was. I became disgusted with myself, acting like I was this great world explorer when all I’d really done was to sit on an airplane.

So, for my 40 th birthday, I resolved to do something that seemed really crazy– going around the world without taking any airplanes. I pitched it as a book proposal, and I set off in late December of 1993. It took 9 months, through 27 countries, covering more than 30,000 miles.

It was a complete transformation in how I saw the world. If you don’t take an airplane from California to Tangiers, it takes weeks to get there. The characters, scenarios, and problems you encounter along the way, every one of them is a story.

How did you connect with Global Network Navigator , publisher of the world’s first travel blog?

GNN, which had one of the first websites ever posted on the Internet, approached me in 1993 and asked if I’d like to write stories from the road that would appear live on their “Travelers’ Center” site.

They had a map of the world, and every time I wrote a story they’d put a dot on the city where I wrote it: You could click on that dot and the story would come up. They contacted Hewlett Packard and got me a small portable computer called an Omni Book 300, taught me how to upload stories through modems I’d find at various places, and sent me on my way.

Over the next nine months, I sent back 19 dispatches ranging from 150 to 2,000 words. I posted stories from Tibet, Morocco, Istanbul, the middle of the Atlantic Ocean…  I didn’t know at the time that no one had ever done this before. I wasn’t trying to pioneer anything, or break any records. I was just writing stories and sending them back, with a tremendous amount of energy and time spent waiting for the stories to upload.

Was there any difference in the way you approached those early blogs as a writer from the work you’d done for books and magazines?

Yes, they were much closer to conversational journal entries than they were to formal articles. Really, they were a conversation between me and my best friend– my Omni Book, which became my therapist and my companion. I had it with me everywhere. It weighed only 2.9 lbs, and every day I would write for an hour or two. Those dispatches were my most personal, unguarded thoughts about the experiences I was having.

Did you ever imagine that Travel Blogging would get as big as it has today?

No, it never occurred to me that people would take so much time off from the experience of being in the moment in their travels unless they had to. I did it because I was working on a book, because I had a contract, because writing was what I’d done my whole life.

It still mystifies me when I go to a place like Cusco in Peru , or Katmandu, or Fez, and see people sitting in Internet cafes checking their email and Facebook Pages. They’re engaging online when they could be out engaging with the people, sights, and byways of the cities they’re visiting.

Do you think that, in trying to document every moment of our travels, we’re losing something?

I don’t want to judge anyone else’s behavior. But when I travel, I prefer being disengaged  from everything except my present circumstances. Nowadays it’s not just travelers who are behind their computers and smart phones, but people in the country you’re visiting.

When I last trekked to Nepal in 2008, the Sherpas and porters were on their iPhones and iPads. It was nothing like the experience I had many years ago, when I was having conversations with these people about their lives, sports, and culture . It is really a polarizing technology: It gives the illusion of creating community but, in fact, it limits us. To me, it is the antithesis of what travel is all about.

What inspired you to start Ethical Traveler?

There’s a certain point in people’s careers where they get a sense that they’ve taken a great deal from the world and have an urge to start giving back. The seed of Ethical Traveler came from an announcement made by Aung San Suu Kyi around 10 years ago, when she was still under house arrest. She asked travelers not to visit Burma until there was regime change, because the money was supporting a murderous junta.

Her words turned on a light bulb for me. I thought, “Wow, travelers really are a huge untapped political action group! What if there was some way to combine their voices in order to promote human rights and social change?” A lot of countries rely on tourism dollars. especially in the developing world. We can and should exert pressure on those countries to do the right thing with the environment, social welfare, and how they use the resources we, as travelers, are bringing in.

Can you talk about the future of sustainable travel, and how you’d like to see travel bloggers contributing to it?

I think there are some interesting points of connection– not just through bloggers, but through all travelers. As Arthur C. Clarke once told me, it’s much easier to predict the future 500 years from now than 10 years from now. With technology advancing so quickly, and the advent of wearable devices like Google Glass, it’s hard to know how we will document our experiences in the future.

I can envision a dystopian future, where everyone is wearing their Google Glass, and it’s this tremendous festival of narcissism with everyone documenting their own life instead of really living it. But I can also see a future in which bloggers and other travelers– anyone with a smart device– can be part of the conversation about what’s working and what’s not in the developing world. Where is the school that was supposed to be built, which is just a pile of bricks because local officials have taken the money?

Let’s document that via a social network. Let’s be the eyes and the ears of the world, to keep things honest and make sure that the money travelers bring to countries is actually used to improve the lives of the people we’re visiting. I think that would be an immensely valuable direction for bloggers to take.

While I think vacations are wonderful, nobody deserves a vacation from the realities of the world. If you’re going to travel to a place, you should always have an awareness of the problems people in those communities face, so– at the very least– you’re not making things worse.

Can you talk about your ambitions for 2014, recreating your first travel blogging trip?

At 60 years old, I don’t feel like I can carry a 60-lb backpack around the world for 9 months. What I hope to do is a two-faceted journey.

First, I’d recreate the trip virtually, using social media to reconnect with some of the extraordinary people I wrote about in my book, The Size Of The World.

Secondly, I’d physically go back to three or four places I went on that trip and meet some of those people, to see how their lives have changed during the past 20 years of evolution, both globally and technologically. I think it could be a really interesting project. –Bret Love; all photos provided by Jeff Greenwald

Travel Bloggers

Hand picked by Jeffsetter, these are the travel bloggers that you need to follow. While there are hundreds of thousands of bloggers out there, these are the resources that I turn to in order to get my perspective and learn the frequent flyer game.

View from the Wing by Gary Leff

This is the guy who got me into the points and miles game. He is also considered the godfather of travel blogging and has been a big time contributor to the advancement of our knowledge of points and miles. He even invented the term Skypesos to describe the Delta Skymiles program.

One Mile at a Time by Ben “Lucky” Schlappig

Even though he calls him self “lucky” on his blog, Ben is a self made travel genius. Already a frequent traveler before hitting 20, Ben provides his readers a view of what it’s like to book and redeem award travel on a variety of airlines. Want to know what it’s like flying in first class? Today is your  lucky  day.

The Points Guy by Brian “the Points Guy” Kelly

I like the Points Guys website because he does it all; teaching you about how to earn points, how to use points, where to travel and what aspirational travel looks like. I used his advice to get to Mauritius on my honeymoon and have used his blog as a guiding point for several other trips. Since becoming a full time blogger, Brian is publishing important guides and even becoming an on-air personality on national TV shows.

Million Mile Secrets by Daraius Dubash

Million Mile Secrets makes aspirational travel accessible. The author, Darius, and I have a lot in common. We got married around the same time, and used miles and points for our honeymoon. I even used Darius’s trip recaps to plan my trip to Moorea.

Hack my Trip by Scott “Scottrick” Mackenzie

I have linked to Hack my Trip a few times and his articles are always good. If I could steal the name of a blog from someone, it would be hack my trip!

The Frequent Miler by Greg  Davis-Kean

If you want to research the best way to earn miles via credit card signup bonuses, gift cards, points malls, etc. this is the guy you need to follow.

Live and Let’s Fly by Matthew Klint

While he doesn’t post too often, I have found Matthew’s blog to be top notch for gaining insider information over the years.

Giddy for Points by Elena Garcia

Elena and I started our blogs around the same time, and she is the first person I interacted with after I started this blog. Can’t wait to meet her in person at an upcoming travel conference!
