MSC Cruising Out Of Fort Lauderdale???
By ReneeFLL , September 1, 2023 in MSC Cruises
Recommended Posts
Does anyone know if MSC has any future plans of cruising out of Fort Lauderdale? I googled and couldn’t find anything. We live 5 miles from the port so it would be very nice. 😁

We too live near Port Everglades and would much prefer to cruise out of there than Port Miami. Given that MSC is putting the finishing (or almost finishing) touches on an enormous new terminal in Miami that can handle 3 ships at a time, I doubt that they are even considering Port Everglades at this time.
years ago, MSC had a ship based at Port Everglades (think it was Magnifica), They moved to Miami with Divina to compete with Royal and Carnival.

I agree that the brand new terminal in Miami makes it less likely we will see MSC sailings out of other FL ports any time soon. They seem intent on expanding to other US regions right now, having just started sailing out of NYC, soon to be sailing out of Galveston, and looking towards Alaska sailings next.

They had Alaska in mind when the Meraviglia and Bellissima were built. There was a blurb from the shipbuilder at the time that they were deliberately shorter than the Fantasia class so they could fit into the existing docks up there. I would personally rather a Seaside class get sent up there, with all that outdoor space.

and look how quickly they abandoned TPA.

Thanks for the info.
Divina used to cruise out of Ft Lauderdale....I believe it was in the early 2010's when MSC first entered the US market. I recall seeing the gorgeous ship across the port from the other ships.

Divina did as well? I seem to recall Magnifica also did, but I may be mistaken.

Definitely was Divina ship was huge and shiny (lol)...I recall telling my wife...what a gorgeous ship as we sailed away on Carnival or Princess at the time. I looked it up when we returned and there are reviews on Cruise Critic from people who sailed Divina out of FLL 2015/2016
Galveston TX is next-they made a commitment to their port. I think we are about 4 years away for that.

Divina’s US debut was in September 2013 from Miami. Three day cruise. I was on it.
quattrohead
It was Poesia that went out of FFL in 2012.
Email notes to 3 other families we went with -
The cost would be $2058 for an 8 day, 7 night cruise (kids are free) deck 12 balcony. We also looked at the Norwegian Pearl however it was a bit over $3,100.

I personally think it was a mistake not to send Armonia to TPA after....you know what !!!
I think it would have been the perfect ship for that market.

IMO a musica class would be a bit better there (Poeisa, Magnifica, Musica, Orchestra). They are about the same size as the Radiance and Spirit class, but imo have a nicer interior.

explains why I thought it was Magnifica. Same class of ship.

Yes they would be even better for sure, but I have a weak spot for a genuine cruise ship from another era !!!
Back in 2012 we were blown away by how gorgeous Poesia was and the totally different feel to Carnival.

that’s exactly why I’d rather a Musica class there. IMO would give a more upscale interior.
Granted, DW and I do sail on Carnival. But the decor on the ships with the exception going to the vista class and Excel class leaves much to be desired. Carnival has been trying to de-gaudify the ships in the conversions (triumph to sunrise, victory to radiance). But there is only just so much they can do all at once.

Yes… but they moved it to FtLauderdale several years later… there are reviews on Cruise Critic shoeing departure from Ft Lauderdale

Princess Cruises and passenger rail company Brightline made it easier for guests to catch their sailings in Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral (Orlando).
The two companies are offering a “Rail and Sail” Program. It allows cruisers to book a Princess cruise and train tickets to their port of embarkation while enjoying discounts and a more seamless experience.
Passengers of Princess Cruises get to travel in brand-new train cars designed with the Love Boat’s branding. Brightline’s 5 Florida terminals will also have the same look and feel.
Brightline’s rail service is available at two price points: Smart and Premium. Savvy passengers can enjoy handstitched leather seats with multiple ports for USB and power connections. In addition to these features, the Premium service comes with Premium Lounge access and free food and beverages.
Aside from shorter travel times than other modes of transport, one of the Rail and Sail’s most attractive offers is the luggage express service. Instead of passengers transferring their luggage from the train to the port, their bags will be securely moved to their cruise ship staterooms, ready for arrival. This additional service is available for $35 per bag.
Princess Cruises President John Padgett noted the added convenience for customers. “A Princess cruise is already the best value in travel and this new partnership with Brightline makes it even easier and more enjoyable to sail with us from the top-rated ports in South and Central Florida,” he said.
Passengers of the cruise line can select from 16 daily roundtrip transfers between Fort Lauderdale and Florida:
- Northbound trains from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, with stops at West Palm Beach and Boca Raton
- Southbound trains from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale, with stops at Boca Raton and West Palm Beach
- Aventura and downtown Miami trains that stop at Orlando and Fort Lauderdale
Princess Cruises will provide complimentary motorcoach services to guests to move between its embarkation terminals and Brightline’s Fort Lauderdale and Orlando stations.
Love Boat cruises from Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral
From Fort Lauderdale, cruisers can take weeklong sailings to the Caribbean and longer 10—to 20-day cruises that explore the Panama Canal.
Meanwhile, the Caribbean Princess will be the first to host a Love Boat cruise from Port Canaveral starting November 27, 2024. Four- to 14-day itineraries allow guests to experience popular Caribbean destinations like Grand Turk, St. Thomas, San Juan, Belize, and Mahogany Bay.
