Peter Kay gigs pulled just a day ahead of Co-op Live's launch in Manchester
Peter Kay was due to open the new Manchester venue Co-op Live this week with two huge comedy gigs, while singer Rick Astley's preview concert over the weekend was also hit with problems.

Comedian Peter Kay has been forced to postpone two shows at Co-op Live in Manchester due to the brand-new arena's power testing falling "a few days" behind schedule.
The record-breaking stand-up comedian had been due to open the new venue - which is now the UK's biggest arena - on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
The 50-year-old Phoenix Nights star said in a statement: "I'm truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it's a brand-new venue and it's important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences.
"Fortunately, we've been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I'll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I'll see you then."
Co-op Live shared a statement on their Twitter feed, telling followers: "Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay.
"These dates will move from 23 April and 24 Wednesday to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April."
The spokesperson for the venue explained that an issue around the power supply was the cause of the cancellation.
"It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind.
"Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size."

The statement added: "Peter Kay has very graciously agreed to perform his record-breaking comedy at Co-op Live on 29 (rescheduled from 23) and 30 (rescheduled from 24) April 2024. All tickets remain valid and ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase."
They said refunds would be available for any ticketholders who could no longer attend the event, and flagged that the date change might mean new tickets become available for fans who missed out the first time round.
The venue added: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some. We are thrilled to welcome Peter Kay as our grand opening act just a few days later than planned."
Over the weekend, a preview concert starring Rick Astley was also hit by delays, with ticket capacity slashed just hours before his gig was due to begin.
Astley fans who had their tickets cancelled have instead been offered seats to see US rock band the Black Keys play next week.
Once fully open, the arena - which is next to Manchester City's football ground - will have a capacity of 23,500, overtaking the capacity of the existing Manchester Arena which has a capacity of 21,000.
Built at an estimated cost of £365m, the arena counts former One Direction singer Harry Styles as one of its investors, with the pop star also advising on some elements of the arena's design.

Other stars set to play at the venue include Take That, Liam Gallagher, Olivia Rodrigo and Eric Clapton.
Peter Kay has been on a comeback tour - his first since 2010 - since December, with stops in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds scheduled through to next year.
In 2010, Kay won the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling stand-up tour of all time - playing to a total of 1.2 million people.

Peter Kay review – from tried and tested everyman routine to jaw-dropping pageant
Manchester Arena After 12 years away from the stage, the slimmed-down entertainer is more unapologetically nostalgic than ever
N o hotcake ever sold in greater quantity than tickets for Peter Kay’s new tour : at one stage in my own bid for access, I was numbered 450,000 in the online queue. It’s a fair bet, then, that Kay will break the record he himself set in 2010 for the biggest-selling standup tour of all time – 1.2 million people saw that show. But is all the fuss justified? And will the long wait for this new show, fraught with speculation about Kay’s health and the likelihood of him ever touring again, prove worthwhile?
If there was any doubt, it was dispelled the moment the slimmed-down 49-year-old stepped onstage at the Manchester Arena. The reception was long, loud and, for Kay, tear-jerking. He took a pause to settle himself: “How’m I supposed to do bloody comedy now?” Not much doubt, though, how Kay was going to do comedy. The two-hour show scarcely deviated from the everyman formula that has made him such a popular success. Some of it, indeed, was almost parodically formulaic, as the Bolton man riffed on modern technology (“What did we do before Amazon? Catalogues!”), led a singalong of 1970s advertising jingles, and gave his famous “garlic bread” routine an Italian makeover.
But for all that, it didn’t come across as just another Peter Kay show. It has a more reflective air: the first half found Kay reminiscing on the dead-end jobs he worked before he was famous, including a stint as an usher in this very arena. The show’s other theme is the recent death of his 96-year-old nan, a big presence in Kay’s life. Earlier, that manifested as some first-base gags about gran’s malapropisms. Later, it prompted a sentimental finale, as a conversation grandson had with granny at the end of her life is replayed over a family-album slideshow.
Elsewhere, while the set never directly addresses the reasons for Kay’s temporary disappearance from public life, there is a section on his recent health challenges. In comic terms, it’s the strongest part of the show, as Kay rolls his eyes at the anaesthetist asking for a selfie, then recounts the indignities of his recent operation for kidney stones. It’s familiar standup territory, but Kay’s got a minimalist gift for expressing indignity and dismay – and there’s a great acting-out of a genitally entangled couple making their way to hospital after an unfortunate post-op accident.
While this routine is fit to stand alongside well-loved favourites from Kay’s earlier shows, some of the material in the first act barely registers as comedy. When our host orchestrates the audience in a TV theme recital, say, or goes all misty-eyed at one chocolate-bar jingle after another, his role is more conduit for our collective memory than comedian. You look in vain for punchlines – at least until the show’s multiple encores, when those early sections are revisited and built upon in quite spectacular fashion.
It would be unsporting to say too much about the jaw-dropping pageant that Kay lays on here, after the comedy show proper has come to an end. In keeping with the evening’s reflective vibe, there’s a section on misunderstood song lyrics, calling back to one of Kay’s most popular routines – and as funny as ever, because Kay takes so much pleasure in sharing with us these daft misapprehensions. After that, things get wilder, as all those TV themes and jingles return with bells and whistles added – and celebrity cameos, and hot air balloons, and our host dressed like Sergeant Pepper, living out his rockstar dreams.
By the end of Kay’s return to the stage after 12 years away, you can’t help but submit, not just to the spectacle, but to Kay’s commitment to celebrating his generational experience. Top Cat, the Bodyform advert, Blockbuster video: Kay doesn’t just joke about these Proustian madeleines of our shared youth – he fashions his whole show into a hymn to them. One can only imagine what anyone under 30 would think. But for Kay’s fans, it’s catnip. He returns to the stage older, as unapologetically traditional and even more nostalgic than ever, and delivers a show that’s pretty much irresistible.

Peter Kay made £1m between 2019 and 2020 despite making just one public appearance, reports have claimed.
The comedian’s earnings came to light as his production company, Good Night Vienna Productions, filed shareholder funds amounting to £24.8m in March. It is £1m more than the previous year.
Kay’s earnings bump stemmed from TV royalties from his shows, which include Car Share and Phoenix Nights , according to The Daily Mail .
The actor, writer and stand-up has otherwise made just one presumably unpaid public appearance since 2018, when he appeared on the BBC fundraiser The Big Night-In in April.
Kay, who otherwise had stayed out of the public eye since the final episode of Car Share , was seen sat in the sunshine wearing glasses and a hat and eating an ice lolly.

He introduced a new version of charity single “Amarillo”, which stormed to the top of the charts in 2005 after it appeared during that year’s Comic Relief celebrations.
Kay also contributed a sketch script to a book celebrating NHS workers in August. The sketch, inspired by Car Share , saw Kay’s character on the show revealing he had undergone a brain scan after experiencing a cancer scare.
The sketch appeared in the book 100 Stories to Say Thank You , which also included contributions from Emma Thompson and Dermot O’Leary.

Peter Kay has announced that his stand-up shows at a new venue in Manchester have been postponed for a second time. The comedian is due to perform his Peter Kay Live tour at Co-op Live.
They were originally planned for April 23 and 24, but had to be put back due to the venue not being ready. They were initially rescheduled for April 29 and 30.
However, on Friday morning Kay announced that the shows had been postponed again. He said the shows were now due to happen on May 23 and 24.
Posting on X, he said: "My apologies once again but unfortunately the Co-op Live still isn’t ready and so, as yet, remains untested for a large-scale audience. Consequently, they are having to reschedule my two shows yet again (I know I can’t believe it either)."
The post was accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek poster-style image of Kay, saying he was "hoping to eventually perform at Europe's biggest new arena", with an asterisk taking readers to small print that said "if they actually open the place". The poster also joked that Kay was "currently the ninth artist in the world to perform at Manchester Co-op Live".
The new dates were said to be "the first available". Tickets will be transferred, but anyone who can't attend can apply for a refund.
Kay concluded by saying: "It's very disappointing, but your safety is important and I won't compromise that."
A statement from Co-op Live confirmed that the shows had been postponed, alongside a concert by rock band The Black Keys.
It said: "Since making the difficult decision to postpone the live shows at Co-op Live due to take place this week, we have been undertaking an extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans. To ensure that we can run all shows safely, regretfully we have now had to take the decision to reschedule the planned The Black Keys and Peter Kay shows.
"Both The Black Keys and Peter Kay have graciously agreed to reschedule their shows. The Black Keys will now perform on May 15, 2024, and Peter Kay will now perform on May 23 and 24.
"All tickets remain valid and ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase. Refunds will be available for those who can no longer attend. We deeply appreciate the impact this will have on excited fans and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause.
"Rescheduling Peter Kay and The Black Keys will give us the extra time we need to continue testing enhanced emergency communications thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size to ensure that our fans, artists and staff have the safest experience possible."
It added: "Today's announcement comes with reassurance that we welcome fans to Co-op Live from Boogie Wit Da Hoodie on May 1 and into Olivia Rodrigo from May 3, 2024."
The £365 million arena's general manager Gary Roden announced his resignation on Thursday after a slew of issues led to a delay in the opening of what will be the UK's biggest indoor arena. Co-op Live Arena confirmed to the BBC that Roden had resigned, shortly after his comments to the broadcaster, in which he claimed grassroots music venues were often "poorly run".
A statement from the arena to the BBC said it does not "share the sentiment" expressed by its now-former general manager and that "Co-op Live remains committed to grassroots music in Manchester and beyond". The statement also thanked Mr Roden for his "help bringing the UK's newest arena to live entertainment fans and wish him the best for the future".
As per the statement to the BBC, Rebecca Kane Burton, an ex-boss of London's O2 Arena, will step in as interim general manager. The Music Venue Trust hit out at Mr Roden in a statement of its own, telling NME grassroots music venues are not "poorly run", and it is "disrespectful and disingenuous to suggest otherwise".
It added: "Obviously, the irony of making ill-judged, unnecessary and misleading comments about grassroots music venues on the day that the launch of their new arena has unfortunately fallen into such difficulties is not lost on anyone in the music industry, on artists, or on audiences."
The venue, built by developer the Oak View Group, was given planning permission in 2020 and boasted an investment from popstar Harry Styles.

Peter kay’s “huge” earnings revealed before uk tour sold out.
Peter Kay ‘s “huge” earnings have been revealed just before his upcoming UK tour sold out in minutes.
A source reportedly told The Sun that Kay’s company accounts currently holds £22.6million, without taking into account ticket sales.
“The accounts just prove what a huge success Peter is,” the source began. “His royalties and merchandise still tick along every year, despite his recent inactivity.
“He’s also very savvy with his cash, as he’s made lots of wise investments.”
The website hosting the ticket sales for Kay’s tour crashed after the pre-sale opened earlier this month , with O2 saying it had been “by far the highest demand we’ve ever seen for Priority Tickets in 15 years”.

Talking to Sara Cox on BBC Radio 2 about the huge publicity the tour has received , Kay said: “I could not get over… I was lying in bed with [wife] Susan on Monday night because I had a show, a practice, and Huw Edwards was on the news with a picture of me behind him.
“He was doing the Queen’s funeral and he’s talking about me!” Kay remarked. “I’m going, ‘I’m on the news! The main news! This is ridiculous’.
“I should only be on the news if I’m dead!”

What he had in mind, however, was a mainstream radio station that offered a variety of light, entertaining programs in the form of live streaming and on-demand listening.
All new hosts are encouraged to produce their own material and play however they want. This will create a relaxed, creative environment that brings hosts together and lead to a shared effort.
At TGM Radio Our programs will be of the highest quality. We’ll find you the best radio hosts for our station, so that what you’re listening to always sounds good. TGM Radio programming will have the best music (past and present), the latest hits from charts local and international, news and local traffic & weather.

Peter Kay’s eye-popping earnings revealed after his tour sold out in minutes
- Published : 19:00, 23 Nov 2022
- Updated : 23:38, 23 Nov 2022
- Published : Invalid Date,
PETER KAY has a cool £22.6million sitting in his company accounts – and the superstar comic’s not even been working.
The figure released yesterday comes just before his upcoming tour , which will be another huge money-spinner.
A source said: “The accounts just prove what a huge success Peter is.
“His royalties and merchandise still tick along every year, despite his recent inactivity.
“He’s also very savvy with his cash, as he’s made lots of wise investments.”
The accounts for his main company, Hussein Traders Ltd, showed that he has £22.6million in investments, and is £10.5million in profit. Peter has taken time away from the spotlight since 2017 when he cancelled his UK tour due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.
His appearances over the past few years have been limited to only a surprise showing during a charity screening of his series Car Share in 2018, a cameo on Cat Deeley 's Radio 2 show in January 2021 and hosting two charity events to raise money for cancer sufferer Laura Nuttall seven months later.
He also made a brief return in April 2020 for the BBC’s Big Night In , when Children In Need and Comic Relief combined.
Since announcing his comeback earlier this month however, Peter is firmly back in the spotlight.
He appeared on Zoe Ball 's Radio 2 Breakfast Show to promote his new monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena , which runs from December 16 until November 18 next year, having already announced tour dates across the UK.

Reality stars compete in action tasks around the world to win cash prizes and avoid elimination.
I can reveal Celebrity Big Brother finalist and judo Olympian Ashley McKenzie is on board.
Another name is 2018 Love Island beauty Kaz Crossley , who has already experienced the Stateside version.

J ANE: I'VE NO TIME TO LOOSE
JANE McDONALD’s fans will be gutted to hear she has ruled out becoming a full-time host on Loose Women.
The singer and presenter has been a regular guest on the ITV lunchtime show over the past decade, but says she would never be able to commit fully as she is always on holiday.
Jane said: “I had some great years on Loose Women but things change and I really haven’t got time to go back now.
“I’m away on holiday and doing everything.”
She also revealed her awards, including a 2018 Bafta for Channel 5 series Cruising With Jane McDonald, get pride of place in her home.
Jane said: “I put them near my TV so when I have got the telly on I think, Ooh.”
Good on her.
GAZZA’S NOISE IS A CATCH
DAVID SEAMAN and Paul Gascoigne could have been the Ant & Dec of angling.
The ex-England teammates filmed a one-off special with website Fishing Republic – and there was hope the pair could have landed a series.
But it doesn’t sound like a goer, which might be some relief to David , who found his pal a little too loud. The goalkeeping great explained: “I normally go on my own, so it was great to take a friend.
"It has been Gazza in recent months but he is a bit too noisy. He is doing all right, he is up and down. He loves his fishing and it was great to do a programme with him.”
They have teamed up to promote mental health campaign Hats On For Mind, with beanies available to buy at GO Outdoors, Fishing Republic, Blacks and Millets.
David also revealed they have not lost the competitive edge, and added: “He so wants to win at everything. But he never beats me.”

Peter Kay is forced to cancel two shows on the Manchester leg of his tour with less than 24 hours notice

Peter Kay 's huge gig at Manchester's brand new Co-op Live arena has been cancelled, just hours before the comedian was due to take to the stage.
The comedian's second show at the venue on Wednesday evening has also been cancelled.
The highly-anticipated show was due to go ahead on Tuesday at the 23,500-capacity venue, and would have been the grand opening for the city's flagship new venue, the largest in the UK.
But just a day before the show was due to take place, it has been announced that both shows have been cancelled, as work is still to be completed on the venue, which is yet to be signed off by the council's building control.
Co-op Live has confirmed that both shows will be rescheduled, and will instead take place on the 29th and 30th April.
Peter Kay's huge gig at Manchester's brand new Co-op Live arena has been cancelled, just hours before the comedian was due to take to the stage
A spokesperson for Co-op Live said: 'Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay.
'These dates will move from 23 April and 24 Wednesday to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.
'It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind. Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly.
'This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size.
'Peter Kay has very graciously agreed to perform his record-breaking comedy at Co-op Live on 29 (rescheduled from 23) and 30 (rescheduled from 24) April 2024.
'All tickets remain valid and ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase. Refunds will be available for those who can no longer attend.
'We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some. We are thrilled to welcome Peter Kay as our grand opening act just a few days later than planned.'
Meanwhile Peter said: 'I'm truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it's a brand-new venue and it's important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences.'
The comedian was due to perform at the brand new venue on 23rd and 24th April, but the shows have now been postponed to 29th and 30th April respectively
The shows were set to be the grand opening act for the Co-Op Live Arena, but there is still work to be completed on the venue
'Fortunately, we've been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I'll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I'll see you then.'
Co-op Live added: 'We can't wait to welcome fans to Co-op Live for our official grand opening events with Peter Kay, and to showcase Co-op Live at its very best.
'We will still be hosting The Black Keys on 27 April in the lower bowl with 10K fans as planned, and will continue to test the resilience of the venue and its operations.'
This comes after problems with power at the site, which are believed to have affected the fire safety and emergency services communication systems, led to bosses slashing attendance from around 11,000 to 4,000 at Saturday night's test event - less than two hours before it was due to start.
Insiders claimed 'everything was run down to the wire' ahead of the test show starring Rick Astley.
Manchester City Council's building control department cannot issue a completion certificate while work is still ongoing at the site, which is understood to include corridors and wiring.
The venue could still operate without this certificate after presenting council bosses with a mitigation strategy to manage potential risks, although details of this plan have not been made public.
Previously, bosses at Co-op Live said teams were on-site 'throwing everything at it' to prepare for the venue's grand opening.
A Co-op Live spokesman said: 'Opening a venue of this size requires working very closely with multiple stakeholders and responsible authorities to deliver against a rigorous set of guidelines and protocols.
'Leading into our test event, some systems had limited electrical power which we were only able to mitigate by reducing capacity.
This meant we made the difficult decision to reduce the capacity of our test event and deeply regret the impact this had on our invited guests.
'We do recognise that many people were inconvenienced yesterday evening at very short notice and apologise to all affected.
The comic has been on a mammoth comeback tour which kicked off in 2022, and includes a monthly residency at London's O2 Arena (pictured in 2006)
'We're working hard to complete Co-op Live and look forward to welcoming fans and artists to the venue soon.'
According to the venue's website, Peter’s 2010 tour still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time.
Peter shocked fans after appearing in a rare photograph as he performed his stand-up show in May last year.
And the comic said: 'See how much weight Peter Kay has lost.'
Before announcing the new tour, Peter had disappeared from public life, before releasing a statement in December 2017 to say he was returning to the limelight.
In November 2022, Peter then delighted the nation by announcing he would be returning to touring for the first time in 12 years, including a monthly residency at London's O2 Arena.
Taking to the stage for his first night in Manchester, Peter was moved to tears as he received a standing ovation from the audience that lasted several minutes.
Struggling to compose himself following the reaction, Peter told the crowd: 'Oh Jesus look at me, I mean what's that all about… how am I supposed to do bloody comedy now?'
'Lovely Manchester you made me cry… where did it come from, all that emotion?'

Peter Kay ‘in disbelief’ as he postpones Manchester shows again with £365,000,000 venue in chaos
Share this with
Peter Kay has admitted he’s in ‘disbelief’ over having to postpone two major gig dates yet again thanks to issues with Manchester’s new £365million Co-op Live arena .
Fans had initially been enraged after discovering the comedian’s two gigs in Manchester had been postponed due to power supply issues at the venue with just 24 hours notice on Monday.
The 50-year-old’s gigs scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (April 23 and 24), were originally rescheduled for Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.
However, the Phoenix Nights star was forced to take to social media again on Friday to reveal that those dates would no longer be possible either because the stadium ‘still isn’t ready’.
New dates are set for late May.
Kay wrote in a statement he posted to X: ‘To everybody with tickets, my apologies once again but unfortunately the Co-op Live still isn’t ready and so, as yet, remains untested for a large-scale audience.
‘Consequently, they are having to reschedule my two shows yet again,’ he continued, adding in brackets: ‘I know I can’t believe it either.’
He then revealed that the first two available dates for the rescheduled shows wereThursday May 23 for the rescheduled Monday April 29 gig, and Friday May 24 for the show that had been pushed to Tuesday April 30.
‘Tickets will be transferred, or refunds given if the new dates aren’t suitable.’
Sharing in many of his fans’ feelings, he concluded: ‘It’s very disappointing but your safety is important, and I won’t compromise that.’
Co-op Live also posted an update on the social media site, revealing that The Black Keys’ show had also been pushed.
My apologies once again but unfortunately the Co-op Live still isnât ready and so, as yet, remains untested for a large-scale audience. ‘Since making the difficult decision to postpone the live shows at Co-op Live due to take place this week, we have been undertaking an extensive protocol of testing critical procedures to ensure all areas are ready for fans,’ the venue’s statement began.
The venue then praised Kay and The Black Keys for ‘graciously’ agreeing to reschedule their shows, with the band now due to perform on May 15 instead.
‘We deeply appreciate the impact this will have on excited fans, and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause.’
The official account went on to explain that postponing the shows ‘will give us the extra time we need to continue testing enhanced emergency communications thoroughly’.
‘This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size to ensure that our fans, artists and staff have the safest experience possible.’

The arena’s general manager Gary Roden announced his resignation on Thursday after a slew of issues led to a delay in the opening of what will be the UK’s biggest indoor arena.
Co-op Live Arena confirmed to the BBC that Roden had resigned, shortly after his comments to the broadcaster, in which he claimed grassroots music venues were often ‘poorly run’.
A statement from the arena to the news organisation said it does not ‘share the sentiment’ expressed by its now-former general manager and that ‘Co-op Live remains committed to grassroots music in Manchester and beyond’.
The statement also thanked Mr Roden for his ‘help bringing the UK’s newest arena to live entertainment fans and wish him the best for the future’.
As per the statement to the BBC, Rebecca Kane Burton, an ex-boss of London’s O2 Arena, will step in as interim general manager.
The venue, built by developer the Oak View Group, was given planning permission in 2020 and boasted an investment from popstar Harry Styles .
The initial postponement after the Co-op Live’s first test event on Saturday had frustrated fans over the lack of notice.
@Thicktighnolie said: ‘Please tell me why I am finding this out on flipping TWITTER and have not been emailed?’
@StevieJVega quipped: ‘Rebrand to coop almost live.’
‘WOW ! Test event Saturday and 2 days later you decide to cancel at midday ! Who will compensate my hotel and rail fare I no longer need ! And to add insult we can’t make next week !! Disgusting and still not been told by ticketmaster,’ @dunkmat added.
A statement posted on Peter’s official X page earlier this week had explained: ‘Following Coop Live’s first test event on Saturday, regretfully the venue operators have made the difficult decision to reschedule the two opening performances by Peter Kay.
‘These dates will move from 23 April and 24 Wednesday to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.’
Co-op Live also shared a statement on their X account and told followers they decided to push back Peter’s stand-up gigs after a test event on Saturday.

The company said the reason behind the postponement was a lack of a ‘consistent’ total power supply for their ‘fully electric sustainable venue’.
Co-op Live said all tickets were still valid and ticket holders would be contacted by their point of purchase.
Refunds will also be available for those we can no longer attend.
‘We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some,’ the statement said.
Peter’s tour Better Late Than Never is his first stand-up run in 12 years and was unsurprisingly met with astonishing demand for tickets.
Following the announcement of his return to showbiz, Peter was overwhelmed by all the support.

‘Everybody deserves a bit of joy. Here’s to a lot more shows to come!!’
Despite re-sellers flogging tour tickets on for hundreds, even thousands, of pounds, the performer had tried to keep costs low.

Co-op Live gives update on new opening after fans fume at Peter Kay closure
Disaster struck at the Co-Op Live when Peter Kay pulled out of his planned gig at the last minute on Monday
- 14:46, 23 Apr 2024
Peter Kay postponed two long-awaited shows at Manchester's Co-Op Live but the venue may have found a solution to keep everyone happy.
The comedian was forced to delay his performance, scheduled for this Tuesday, April 23, after the arena's power testing fell "a few days" behind schedule. Representatives for the Co-Op Live Arena took to X, formerly known as Twitter , on Tuesday to insist things were on the right track with Peter due back on both Monday and Tuesday "next week".
"We are focusing on ensuring a consistent total power supply to our venue, and testing thoroughly," the venue guaranteed before insisting that rock duo The Black Keys will not be affected by the same issue and will be the first musical gig to run on April 27. "We are preparing to welcome The Black Keys to Co-op Live on Saturday, and Peter Kay on Monday and Tuesday next week."
But the last-minute announcement left multiple fans fuming on Monday and with a plethora of questions about accommodations and refunds unanswered, many of them took to the comment section. "What are you going to do about the hotels we booked for the peter Kay?" one puzzled individual asked.
When they were reminded to "review the Terms & Conditions from (their) ticketing provider", however, they angrily added: "I have and you won’t pay out but you should have made sure you could use the venue on the dates you sold the tickets for. I trusted you but feel so let down."
Another social media user pointed out that, despite trying to reach out, their attempts to reach a resolution were left ignored. "I have tried to contact you on email and on here numerous times and still not had a response", they wrote. Meanwhile, other concerned music fans questioned if Olivia Rodrigo 's May performances, on May 3 and May 4 would still take place.
Peter Kay announced he would not be performing in Manchester in a statement, admitting he was "truly gutted" to have to pull out. "I'm truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it's a brand-new venue and it's important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences."
He continued: "Fortunately, we've been able to reschedule the shows to next week (I'll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I'll see you then." Peter Kay was due to front two opening performances on Monday and this Tuesday but the Co-Op Live's trial event made it impossible for hosts to go through with the show.
Saturday's trial event, which was the perfect occasion for Claire Sweeney and Ricky Hatton to make their red carpet debut as a couple, was plagued by delays and ticket capacity was slashed mere hours before Rick Astley 's performance. Some of the singer's fans had their tickets cancelled and were offered seats to see the Black Keys play instead.

New arena postpones Peter Kay's opening shows
The new Co-op Live arena in Manchester has postponed its opening shows featuring comedian Peter Kay because it is not ready.
The venue, which will be the largest in the UK, held its first test event on Saturday but was forced to cancel some tickets just hours beforehand.
Kay was due to perform the first official events there this Tuesday and Wednesday.
But the venue said work on its power supply is "a few days behind" schedule.
"It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind," a statement said.
"Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size."
The venue will hold up to 23,500 people when fully open.
Kay's performances have been rescheduled to 29 and 30 April.
"We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some," the venue added. "We are thrilled to welcome Peter Kay as our grand opening act just a few days later than planned."

"Fortunately, we've been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I'll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I'll see you then."
US rock band The Black Keys are still due to play there on 27 April, before Kay's rescheduled dates. The venue said that gig will have a 10,000 capacity, and managers will use it to "continue to test the resilience of the venue and its operations".
