Very easy to use

If i could give a minus star rating.

If I could give a minus star rating, I would. 4.5 hrs trying to get help for a Home Emergency (front door wouldn't open, not key related). Freezing cold weather with Daycare dogs in the car. 86 year old waiting to go to an appointment elsewhere and my Policy, couldn't be found? The incompetence deserves a high rating as I'm astonished! Steer clear people, this isn't the 1st I've had issues with their lack of customer service. The underwriters were appalling too. So, Saga? the worst. Avoid!

I’ve never had the need to recommend an insurance. although I paid the premiums I’ve never actually Had to claim. Unfortunately I did claim for a leak in the roof causing quite a bit of damage. sagar was professional courteous and very understanding help me go through what I needed to do to rectified all the problems no hassle no quibble. they give you the option of finding your own professional to deal with the problem or they would supply a professional to do the same. I would recommend Saga to in a heartbeat to all.

Saga holidays is worst then their…

Saga holidays is worst then their insurance. They took money twice and if I did not notice they would have kept my money . This is fraud saga . Not a trusted company my bank got involved to get a refund under section 75 . Would not trust Saga for anything again ! It’s always a sorry and a mistake when the consumer is involved but if the consumer made the same sort of error then it would be fraud and money laundering !!!They are sorry because they got caught !! Never book anything with saga again, as they are good when things are good and they will discriminate when things go wrong blaming the consumer for their incompetence staff who added misleading and mis informing information to the new CUE system as this will allow insurance companies to increase everyone premiums falsely and fraudulently ! Do Not Trust Saga Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) system as they will try and incriminate the consumers as they go along !

The Wild India tour is a small group

The Wild India tour is a small group. There were 19 of us, plus the tour manager, Rachit Singh. He was possibly the best Tour Manager we have ever had (and we’ve done quite a few Titan/Saga trips): professional, personable, very knowledgable, attentive, kind and caring. He was not only a brilliant organiser, but an expert naturalist too. Perfect for this holiday.

Wonderful Costa Rica.

Well organised from beginning to end. Great tour manager, lovely tour group, wonderful places to stay and visit. Humberto and Jose looked after us so well, we always felt safe and well informed and the organisation was impeccable. There were a couple of hiccups, we had no water in our room for a day which Humberto helped us sort out and our air con packed up in a different resort which was resolved very quickly. We are planning on a return visit in a couple of years.

Our tailor made holiday to Costa Rica…

Our tailor made holiday to Costa Rica with Saga was amazing. Lacey O'Neill our travel expert put our itinerary together from the information we had given regarding the places we wanted to visit. From start to finish the arrangements were spot on the hotels were in excellent locations. All the tours were just right particularly enjoyed the thermal springs in La Fortuna and Monteverde cloud forest. Wildlife and nature was a joy to see. Although we saw wildlife and birds in the National Parks it is all around you in every little corner you visit. Our time on the Pacific coast was wonderful. Costa Rica is a must. 🙂 🦥🌞🙈

Out of Africa

We have just returned from In the Footsteps of Livingstone tour. Saga were helpful all the way through and our tour was fantastic value for money. Our guide Joanne Nell was friendly, helpful and cheerful from the moment she met us. She was dressed smartly, very professional and no questions were too much for her. Our drivers were also friendly and smartly dressed and on time. Would recommend the tour with Saga/Titan and Joanne to anyone

I travelled to India with Titan holidays recently and can’t wait for the next trip. All arrangements very good before we left and pick up to and from home to the airport a real bonus. Our tour manager, Alex Becerra was exceptional and his attention to detail was superb. Our Indian Tour guide Rahul Tiwira was excellent with limitless knowledge. The two made an awesome duo who covered every eventuality with grace, kindness and efficiency. India was magnificent and well worth a visit. Highly recommend Alex and Titan.

Solo Traveller

My husband is unable to travel so I wanted a week away with no hassle on my own. The booking procedure took over a week before confirmation as they said they had to contact the hotels first. Emails etc should not take this long. I wanted to take the Saga insurance but when I said I took a very low dose antidepressant they said they could not insure me! As a company dealing with older people I am sure most of them would be taking lots of medications. All this procedure has taken 2 weeks and has really taken the shine off booking a holiday.

The Saga continues! Booking S171531

Sooooo, 10 days on I am no further forward. The email I have received today says: "You’ll find your updated holiday confirmation attached, or viewable in My Travel. Please may we ask you to read through the document carefully and if you have any questions, do get in touch. This document supersedes any previous confirmations you have received.". So I have checked the itinerary carefully (which is a good job as it appears that Saga haven't!) and the itinerary in the attachment and the itinerary in My Travel are different. Saga assure me that they should be the same, but they aren't.

A Great Representative of Saga Holidays

SAGA Travel Insurance Start Date? - probably legal. But Buyer Beware

You pay your insurance premium upfront, i.e. when you book your holiday and make your reservation. Now you can relax knowing that you are safe? WRONG!!! The insurance cover does not start, until you close the door behind you as you set off on your holiday. But you are covered by the insurance, if perhaps have to contact your doctor before your holiday starts, aren't you. WRONG! Look at clause 16 in the SAGA Insurance Booklet. Every mishap/injury/sickness is classed as being pre-existing to your holiday start date and must be re--assessed and approved by the Insurer used by SAGA. Let's imagine that you contact your GP in the run-up to your holiday and they recommend (without seeing or examining you, of course) an x-ray to discover the cause of you feeling unwell. Now you have an undiagnosed medical condition which is not covered. With delays in the NHS, getting a diagnosis at short notice before your holiday may not be possible... But you are covered, should you still wish to travel, or cancel your policy aren't you? WRONG! Read clause 16 again... At least the Travel Insurance policy is cheap - even if useless.. However, what Nick failed to include in his reply to this review, is that SAGA claim to have an Insurance Policy which does include pre-travel cover. Personally, I have not been able to verify this, so I don't know what is included or excluded, nor do I know how to access any documentation.

Easy website to manage

Easy website to manage, and I am 70 years old, decent price, the first company that they took into consideration mine and my wife's excellent 20 years no claims and accidents , most other insurance companies that does not mean a thing, they just bump the prices up because that is the trend !! As for SAGA, I truly recommend them VERY highly. Most of the insurance here are rip offs !! Welcome to rip off BRITAIN !! Except SAGA, they deserve every penny they get.

The call was answered without undue delay and my question was answered in such a way that I was happy to proceed with the purchase of relevant insurances online

Exceptional Service

I feel I must commend Mr. James Huck for the exceptional service I received today. I was updating my Travel Insurance which I recently renewed with Saga. Mr. Huck went over and above my expectations in assisting me with my queries. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, even completing an application on my behalf as I was struggling with an on-line form. He clearly really enjoys his job as he told me it gave him pleasure knowing he was able to help people. He is certainly a perfect ambassador for Saga. Many, many thanks.

Travel insurance for a 2.5x month family holiday

+ve Got a very good price for annual travel insurance for Singapore and Australia which covered 90- days for a single trip due to visiting family, amazingly this was actually more than £1000.00 cheaper than a single trip!, also includes pre- advised medical issues. Should also get a 15% Topcashback on the money.. -ve Website kept initially hanging and had to be refreshed a few times

Insurance was fine but cancelling auto renewal a problem

The insurance might be fine, but having used them one year, they seem to (or at least imply by letter in post that they are entitled to and will proceed to) auto renew. Whether this is truly the case, I have no idea, but implying that the onus is on myself to contact them by phone to cancel (and therefore ensuring they have the opportunity for a sales pitch) is very sharp practice. Not impressed. Will be wary in future.

Simplicity - that is, very straightforward. My telephone call to your office was also positive because as well as being helpful the person (male) was English so I was able to understand him the first time without having to constantly ask him to repeat himself or speak slowly.

Date of experience : April 03, 2024

Not the cheapest

Not the cheapest, but you can actually speak to someone on the phone that you can understand. I had a couple of glitches when I bought their car Insurance, but it was soon sorted over the phone, the cheapo insurance out there is just that, you get what you pay for.

Please do NOT make a claim with SAGA home contents Insurance

For years, I gave SAGA home insurance five stars. Then I made a claim. Clearly SAGA were determined not to pay when my clearance/removals people in Gloucester, "David Rudd t/a Clear & Clean House Clearance" , only delivered half of my belongings, stealing the other half, even the stuff I got back from them was damaged: an example being a £20,000 all silk persian rug, that SAGA's agent insisted for a whole year of arguing was worth only £3,000. On the main claim, they asked me to notify police onf the details, who deemed it a "commercial matter" Thern SAGA said I was not covered because it was not a crime? Stealing my furniture not a crime?? I was sick with the worry of replacing my home effects. What is insurance of home contents for?Now I pay a lot less and I know that SAGA do not do the job expected - note actual date was over a year ago, so changed for review convenience. Nota Bene, I have now, at SAGAS request, passed details of the horror that was my claim to their Customer Services dept. If they come back with anything worth publishing, I will again update this review

Good evening, I am so sorry to hear that your claims did not go as anticipated. If you can email our claims complaints team on [email protected], our team will be able to look into this for you. Kind regards- Layla.

Having considered many Travel insurance…

Having considered many Travel insurance company's with medical conditions for a Annual policy (have not been outside the UK for 4 years), Have again purchased with Saga not the cheapest but 1 of the best with Defaqto rating & reviews. However never made a claim! & hope I never will hence why only 4 star.

Impossible to Cancel

We got a letter saying my wife's policy would be renewed automatically. As it was nearly double the previous premium it made sense to cancel and insure with another company (which we have done). The only way to cancel a policy is to phone up. This we did, but gave up after waiting for half a lifetime. I went on line. The only option I could see was to change the payment details and Untick Auto Renew, which I did. Low and behold, my credit card was debited today, with no further communication from Saga. I phoned up and after 20 minutes spoke to a person who said they would have to transfer me to someone else. Fine. So after 3 minutes of silence the call was cut. I phoned again and waited for 30 minutes, spoke to the same person who said she would fetch somebody. 3 minutes later she came back and said there was nobody available who could help me, but she could arrange a callback tomorrow. It was not possible to action a cancellation without speaking to an Advisor. What is that all about?!!! I'm awaiting a callback tomorrow, before raising a Section 75 with the bank. I'm in the middle of a vacation and don't have time for this nonsense.

Satisfactory on-line booking process

I expected a rather long winded process, but it was easier than I expected. I had to declare diabetes (which is now almost defeated by significant weight loss), my heart attack in 2017 and an ablation to correct atrial fibrillation in 2019. I have had no follow-up problems with either of these two latter events, and see a Harley Street surgeon once a year. He is very happy with my post operative recoveries. Your questionnaire was relatively easy to negotiate, and I had expected to speak to one of your underwriters

Does Saga offer coronavirus travel insurance cover for the over 50s?

Saga travel insurance now includes standard covid-19 cover should you test positive for coronavirus within 14 days of travel. It also provides cover should your holiday be cut short due to coronavirus, plus up to £10,000,000 of emergency medical expenses and repatriation fees to get you back home.

It's worth mentioning that although no cover can be provided if you travel to a country where the FCDO advise against all travel, Saga are willing to offer cover if the FCDO has advised against all but essential travel. If you travel to a country where the FCDO has advised against all but essential travel, for a non-essential reason, you’ll have no cover in place for any policy section if the reason for your claim is related to why the FCDO advice is in place, for example COVID-19. This is subject to there being no other government restrictions in place prohibiting travel. If you travel for essential reasons, then you will have full policy coverage in place.

How much does Saga travel insurance cost?

The cost of Saga travel insurance depends on the traveller’s age, health and the type of cover required.

Am I eligible for Saga travel insurance?

To be eligible as the policy holder for Saga travel insurance you must be at least 50 years of age however there is no upper age limit. You must live in the UK and disclose any pre-existing medical conditions, or your policy could be invalid.

Saga will only look to provide cover for diagnosed medical conditons therefore if you are under investigation or awaiting test results of an undiagnosed condition, no cover will be available.

Is Saga travel insurance any good?

My review of Saga travel insurance is designed to help you compare plans and find the best option for you. I would always recommend that you review all of your options to ensure you’re getting the best deal that suits your budget and needs.

Saga travel insurance has the highest possible Defaqto rating. It also has a Trustpilot score of 4.6 out of 5 for all its insurance products. This means both customers and consumer champions alike rate Saga travel insurance as excellent.

With no upper age limit and cover for most pre-existing medical conditions, Saga offers comprehensive travel insurance as standard. This means it’s simple to arrange yet still offers flexibility to tailor the policy by changing the excess, adding additional travellers and changing the level of cancellation cover.

Compare Cheap Travel Insurance

Protect your holiday today. Quick quotes from 20 insurers.

Saga offers one, simple travel insurance plan to those over 50 years of age (with no upper age limit) when you buy direct and one different plan (that is cheaper but with less coverage) through comparison sites. We like that Saga includes cover for End Supplier Failure , some catastrophe cover and a higher level of Personal Belongings/Baggage cover on all policies (plus Golf). Another stand-out perk is that travellers whose international flight is delayed more than an hour can benefit from access to a LoungeKey airport lounge (part of Trip Delay cover)—if you bought direct from Saga and not via a comparison site.

Saga Travel Insurance Review: What You Need to Know

Saga keeps the insurance-buying process easy by offering one comprehensive tier of Travel Insurance, and they now offer special cover related to Covid-19. Strong customer reviews make a further case for buying a Saga policy, in addition to some solid features.

Policies include Trip Cancellation, Emergency Medical, Trip Delay/Missed Departure, Legal Assistance, Personal Accident, Personal Belongings and Golf cover. Those who like to ski can add Winter Sports cover for an additional cost. Not surprisingly, the cost of the Winter Sports add on rises quickly with age.

Anyone planning a longer trip can extend the maximum trip length to 90 days, but only if you are travelling outside the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico or any Caribbean Islands. If you’re travelling to those countries then the maximum trip length is 45 days on an Annual, Multi-Trip policy or 120 days under a Single Trip policy.

Those who struggle with sitting in an airport for hours may like Saga's Delayed Flight Assistance, which gives you access to an airport lounge if your international flight is delayed for an hour or more. This feature provides a bit of peace of mind and comfort for international travel—be sure to pre-register your flights with Saga ahead of time to be eligible for this perk—but this is only available on policies bought direct from Saga, not a comparison site.

Those going on a cruise can get cover for cabin confinement, emergency airlift to hospital, missed port and unused excursions. To learn more about market prices please see our article Average Cost of Cruise Travel Insurance UK .

Does Saga Travel Insurance Cover Trips in the UK? Holidays in the UK are covered under Saga policies, so long as you stay in pre-booked holiday accommodation or the accommodation of a relative or friend who resides in the Channel Islands for at least 2 consecutive nights (Annual, Multi-Trip policies only) or 1 night (Single Trip). However, note that some features are not offered for UK trips and coverage limits may be lower.

Pre-Existing Conditions: Saga may be able to offer cover for your pre-existing medical conditions, buy you may pay a higher premium. Pre-existing conditions are only covered if they've been declared by you and accepted by Saga. As part of the online quote process you can declare your conditions to see if cover can be offered, and for what cost.

Over 65s: There is no upper age limit for Saga Travel Insurance policies; there is, however, a lower age limit of 50 years of age. This age limit only applies to the main policy holder—other travellers you add to your policy can be of any age. There is no upper age limit for Winter Sports cover, but Winter Sports premiums will rise with age .

Insuring Other Travellers: Those you’ve listed on your Annual Multi-Trip policy can travel independently (without you) and still benefit from the same cover as you. This cover extension does not apply to Single Trip policies.

Covid Cover: Saga now offer cover for cancellation or abandonment if you receive a positive test result in writing for Coronavirus within 14 days of your trip’s departure date, as well as emergency medical cover and repatriation if you fall ill with COVID-19 while on your trip.

Covid-19 Cover

Saga now offers cover for cancellation or abandonment if you have a positive Coronavirus test result within 14 days of your departure date. Plus you get emergency medical cover and repatriation if you fall ill with Coronavirus while you're on holiday. Read more here about Saga's Covid cover.

Here is a sample of some of the coverage you get (and don't get) for Covid from Saga travel insurance before you travel:

Saga Insurance Customer Reviews

Over 38,000 customers have awarded Saga plc a solid 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot . Common themes amongst the comments were good value (cheap prices), easy-to-use website and friendly/knowledgeable staff on the phone lines. This rating reflects Saga as a whole, not just their travel insurance.

Here is a sample of the mostly positive experiences:

"What a quick, simple process. I had been told by friends this was the case and that I should try Saga for travel insurance first. They were absolutely right. I have already recommended Saga to my partner. In, fact, I would recommend Saga to anyone who asks." "I got my requested travel insurance at a fair price. I did have a bit of trouble with the web site, which might have been due to a poor connection. I used the 'chat' feature and got prompt and helpful advice." "I was so relieved that Saga made the application for travel insurance quite easy to do. I panicked when it directed me to open my banking app but I was successful with their directions and it was approved. I’m not that good on the internet and am 75 years old but got this done so am very happy." "Just organised travel insurance through Saga. So easy. Competitive pricing. Covers exhausting health issues. Excellent Service from Samuel. Have a policy that caters for my needs. It was easy to purchase. Samuel gave me sound advice. He was patient and courteous. Excellent customer service all round. I do have other insurance products with Saga. I do recommend their services both to family and friends. Thank you Samuel. You were outstanding. Good luck in your future career with Saga" "Fantastic service all round and great prices." "Excellent, as ever. Always good price and great service." "Brilliant trustworthy and always give the maximum help when you contact them. I will never change back to other insurers.... you need someone who really has your best interests at heart when things are difficult and are prepared to really listen and give support in any form. Top rating and then some!!" "I have tried to ring them 9 times, waiting in the phone for over 35 mins. Sent emails asking for someone to ring, that was 3 weeks ago, still waiting!" "We made a claim earlier this year for the theft of luggage on the travel policy. The amount offered in settlement we believe was unrealistic and unfair. After lodging a complaint and receiving a decision from Collinson Insurance, who act for SAGA we have made no progress towards a increased settlement figure. Perhaps we should have insured with Zurich as our traveling companions did who made a virtually identical claim and received a prompt and realistic settlement to their claim. Not recommended." "We had a travel insurance policy with SAGA Services, which we had to claim under due to C-19 in April 2020. On 11th June 2020, SAGA agreed the claim, by email, in full and promised to pay the amount due within 5 days. After 6 days we called them as no money had been received , they confirmed the claim and apologized for the delay. After 10 days we called back and they then said they had made an error , and despite them having sent an email agreeing the claim they were no longer going to pay it, as it had been an error. Since then I have written to the CEO's office twice and received two letters claiming it isn't their problem , as the mistake is with the insurance company. In short you can't rely on anything they say..."

Saga Travel Insurance Prices

While travellers of any age can get a Saga travel insurance policy, premiums rise significantly as travellers age—especially for worldwide coverage including the USA. To get an understanding of how age affects prices, we gathered sample quotes of Saga Travel Insurance across various age groups (50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 years of age).

Insurance quotes can vary significantly from day to day and according to your individual details, so please just use the pricing data in this article for general educational purposes only; your quotes may reflect a large degree of variation to quotes listed here.

chart showing Saga multi-trip travel insurance prices for those 50, 60, 70 and 80 years old

Premiums with Pre-Existing Conditions

Travellers with Pre-Existing Conditions will pay more for travel insurance, in nearly all cases. The additional premium will depend on a lot of factors, such as your age, the geographic coverage (e.g. it's more expensive to cover medical conditions in USA than Europe), type of pre-existing condition (some are riskier than others), health history (e.g. were you a smoker? are you on new medication?), etc. Trips to Europe are more cost effective than the USA, when you have pre-existing conditions.

For instance, our data analysis of prices from the Saga website shows that common conditions of high blood pressure and cholesterol cost 38% or 51% more for a 70 year old going to France or the USA, respectively. And for someone who's had a heart attack, stent and heart bypass, the premium increases are 74% and 151%, respectively.

How Expensive is Saga Travel Insurance with Pre-Existing Conditions?

How much does winter sports add-on cost.

The cost of Winter Sports cover practically doubles with every decade of age. While Saga will sell Winter Sports cover to you regardless of age, it doesn't come cheap, especially for older travellers to North America. For instance, we found that Winter Sports cover for an 80-year old heading to Aspen would cost over £500.

After reading through the Saga travel insurance policy documents, we feel these are the most notable features. In addition, standard features like Medical and Personal Liability are also included on Saga policies, limits for which can be found below . For more complete details like inner limits and exclusions, please see the policy documents .

Types of Saga Travel Insurance Policies

Saga offers one level of travel insurance cover when you buy direct, and they offer one level of cover when you buy from a comparison site—but the limits vary between these two options. Policies bought direct are expected to be more expensive, because they have higher cover limits across many categories.

Regardless of where you buy, you can purchase as an Annual, Multi-Trip policy or a Single Trip policy.

Saga Single Trip: Saga Single Trip travel insurance covers trips up to 120 days abroad.

Saga Annual Multi-Trip: Saga Annual, Multi-Trip policies cover trips up to 45 days in length (with the option to extend to 60 or 90 days on policies excluding travel to USA, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean Islands). Within each policy year, you can travel as many time as you want provided your total time abroad doesn’t exceed 120 days.

You can add Winter Sports and Hire Car Excess Waiver cover to all policies; Golf is already included as standard. Note, policies have lower limits/fewer features for UK-based holidays .

Cover Limits for Policies Bought Direct (Single & Annual Multi-Trip)

Cover limits for optional winter sports travel insurance (direct policies only), cover limits for saga golf travel insurance (included).

Please read some of our Travel Insurance Guides if you're trying to decide between Single Trip or Multi-Trip policies, learn about What May Not be Covered by Travel Insurance or decide if you Need Travel Insurance or Not .

How does Saga Travel Insurance Compare to Competitors?

To better understand the value of Saga travel insurance you need to look at it in the context of other available options. We compared it to other plans in the market so you can see which may be more suitable for you.

Saga Travel Insurance vs Direct Line Travel Insurance

Direct Line Travel Insurance

Direct Line travel insurance plans include cover for End Supplier Failure and Natural Disasters, plus cover for the replacement cost of used points or miles in case of Cancellation/Curtailment for a trip bought with air miles or another rewards structure . While prices are a bit higher than average, according to our analysis, you are getting these extra cover features. One surprising extra is Baggage—you'll need to pay extra to cover your personal belongings as they're not included as standard. There is an upper age limit of 75 years old for Direct Line Multi-Trip policies; there is no upper age limit on Single Trip policies.

Bottom Line: If you book trips with miles, Direct Line might offer better cover since they reimburse for used miles/points if your trip is cancelled or curtailed.

Saga Travel Insurance vs AXA Travel Insurance

AXA Travel Insurance Review

In our opinion, AXA travel insurance offers solid cover for reasonable prices. Insolvency, Baggage, Cancellation/Delay/Curtailment and Catastrophe are included on all plans. Single trip policies an upper age limit of 80 years; the age limit for travellers on multi-trip policies is 75 years old. There is no upper age limit for Winter Sports cover, other than the policy age limits mentioned above. AXA is another provider for which you can select your pre-existing conditions online without calling in to customer service.

Bottom Line: AXA might be another solid option for travellers in their 50s, 60s and 70s, who can benefit from a simply online system for notifying of pre-existing conditions.

A very simple process.

A very simple process on line to select Travel Insurance cover for over 50+ when other companies made the process very difficult. Clear and uncomplicated navigation through their selection process and most importantly, realistically priced. Would recommend SAGA and will certainly use again.

Purchasing insurance is invariably easy

I see little point in reviewing the act of purchasing insurance. T he important part of the process is in making a claim should that be necessary. Buying was easy but took a lot of mini print reading. That is not so easy. I don't feel it was encouraged either, although it is widely reported that such companies demand such work and knowledge should a claim be made that the company deem incorrect.

Putting unreasonable hurdle to my claim

I got torn my acl ligament at my left knee. I called saga wanting to see consultant. Saga replied to me I need a referral from GP. However, I cannot make an appointment from GP as they said they can't help in this case. I called Saga, and they arranged a private GP for me and after consulted the private GP arranged by Saga, the GP issue a referral letter to Saga and verified I had the need to see the consultant. However, Saga then replied to me that private GP is not accepted and I need the referral letter from NHS GP. I went to A and E in hospital, a physiotherapist exam me and concluded also I had a ACL ligament torn and X ray results shown bone is fine. Then I request my NHS GP to give me a referral letter, however, after more than 1 week, they still can't give me the letter and said they have no time frame to do it. My complaint is, if private GP referral letter is not accepted, why Saga arranged for me and waste my time? Does policy mention private GP not accepted? Is Saga responsible for my delayed treatment? Or Saga just want to put hurdle to a injured patient like me?

Date of experience : April 08, 2024

Good evening, I am so sorry to hear that your claims didn't go as planned and I hope you are recovering well. If you can, please email us on [email protected] and our team will be happy to get this investigated for you. Kind regards- Layla.

Disappointed by apparent pricing strategy.

I have had car and health insurance with Saga previously but have not renewed because they had significant price hikes at renewal time that made them uncompetitive. What prompted me to write this review is recent emails and letters, whereby, they still bombard me with offers for both, often with an incentive. It’s seems apparently they only offer competitive rates to win custom. Likewise, I find their holidays interesting if expensive but I’ve previously noted, getting toward the commitment to book detail of a particular holiday, resulted in a significant upward price adjustment above the “lead price” even for the cheapest period. This was explained by air fare adjustments but the difference was too big for this and they had not changed the lead price in the holiday details. Maybe I’ve just been unfortunate with timing.

Good evening, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. If you would like to discuss any of your points further, please come and chat with us by going to www.saga.co.uk/chat and our team will be happy to help. Kind regards- Layla.

As an existing Saga customer with car insurance, I logged in to get quote for home insurance. After going through the lengthy questionaire was given a quote for extortionate £375 pa. I tried again with exact same details on well known price comparision website and my cheapest quote... Saga at £120.20 pa! I took this deal but it did infuriate me that Saga treats its existing customers in this way.

Long phone wait. Chose competitor

Missed my renewal. Tried to start a new quote online. Got to the end of the tediously lengthy process to be greeted with 'call us', not a quote. "Sorry, unusually busy,15 min wait". Called. Got bored. Checked competitors which gave extended EU cover. Found LV. Entered much simpler online details. Instant quote, £20 cheaper. Booked. Moral: Get enough call operators or you lose business. I'll remember next time too.

Good evening, I am so sorry to hear you have not been able to get through to us on the phone. I do understand you have taken a policy elsewhere however, if you do require further assistance, please feel free to come and chat with us by going to www.saga.co.uk/chat and our team will be able to help. Kind regards- Layla.

What a Sarga!!!

I had house and contents insurance with Saga. They sent me a renewal notice indicating that the premium had risen by £80. Having taken it out for one year only I forgot to inform them that I had taken the next year with another company. For being one day late in informing then they charged me £32. I am 76 years old and cannot afford payment but they insisted. I thought wrongly that this company primarily dealt with people like myself. Wrong they are a disgrace they are no different to any other insurance company who put profits before customers.

Have pre-existing medical conditions? Try Saga first.

I have pre-existing medical conditions, nothing too serious but the quotes I was receiving were so expensive. Good travel insurance policies

We chose Saga travel insurance because it offers £10,000 per person cover, if you have to cancel your holiday (most others only offer £5000) and it includes cruise cover as standard. It was easy to apply online, including declaring a medical condition, and the price was competitive for the cover offered. We just hope its as good if we have to make a claim!

Terrible customer service

I have just received my renewal terms for medical insurance from Saga and wanted to discuss them so I phoned up. After being kept waiting for half an hour on hold, with no information as to where I was in the queue I gave up. Why do these companies feel they can offer terrible customer service? I am now looking at alternatives through a broker

A fantastic holiday to the golden triangle in India .Good hotels fantastic saga rep Alex and Indian rep Raoul made the holiday . Lots of great information ,Alex was very caring made sure we were all ok . Raoul was a mine of information and was very entertaining with his explanation. My only criticism was on the lack of western food at dinner time . Very little choice for paople that couldn’t take spicy food . But still well worth the trip ,our group was very friendly too . I would recommend this trip to anyone .

Exorbitant Price Increase

Just received my car insurance renewal - Shocking!!! Sage have increased my premium by almost 100%. Rang them to see if they could better it & was told as a loyal customer for over 15 years they would offer a discount of £40 - what a joke. I expected the price to increase due to the current economic climate & increased costs of repairs but how can they justify 10% increase despite there being no chanes to the policy.

Good evening, I am so sorry to hear of the increase you have had on your renewal this year. I do understand you have spoken to us already however, if you need further help with us, please feel free to come and chat with us by going to www.saga.co.uk/chat and our team will be happy to help. Kind regards- Layla.

Nikki So so helpful

You know, I wish I’d gotten older sooner. Saga are a delight to deal with. That’s my insurance all sorted again for a new car this time. What an easy pain free, stress free experience. The agent I dealt with (Nikki) was so informative, respectful and very well mannered and courteous. And of course so so helpful. Thank you so much.

Tried to renew breakdown cover before…

Tried to renew breakdown cover before the policy expired. Phoned to arrange payment (their renewal letter says you can phone) and waited 32 minutes for someone to answer. The person who answered couldn't arrange the payment. As it wasn't possible to renew via their website made other attempts to phone and pay. Total wait time for all the calls made was 4 hours. However, finally paid only to receive a letter to say the policy had expired. So they've taken money and told the policy has expired. Phoned and again a long wait. They were unable to resolve the problem, so they've taken my money and still no policy or refund

AIG Travel Guard insurance review: What you need to know

Whether you need an annual plan or a policy for a last-minute trip, travel guard can deliver..

thumbnail

Travel Guard is one of CNBC Select 's picks for best travel insurance , thanks to its wide range of customizable policies. But are any of them right for you? Below, we review the provider and its offers and how they compare to the competition to help you choose the right travel insurance for your next trip.

Travel Guard review

Other insurance offered, how it compares, bottom line, travel guard® travel insurance.

The best way to estimate your costs is to request a quote

Policy highlights

Travel Guard offers a variety of plans to suit travel ranging from road trips to long cruises. For air travelers, Travel Guard can help assist with tracking baggage or covering lost or delayed baggage.

24/7 assistance available

  • A variety of plans are available to help cover different types of trips
  • Not all products are available for purchase online

Travel Guard® is a global travel insurance provider specializing in plans for leisure and business travelers. Its online travel insurance packages include five options, from basic and last-minute trip coverage to more comprehensive plans. This allows travelers to pick a plan that best matches their situation.

For example, budget-minded travelers might go for the Essential Plan which offers basic protections, such as trip cancellation, interruption and delay insurance, coverage for lost, damaged and delayed baggage, and medical, evacuation and death coverage.

On the other hand, the Deluxe Plan — the most comprehensive option — adds such extras as missed connection coverage, security evacuation, travel inconvenience benefits and more. It also boosts high limits for essential coverages.

Last-minute travelers can opt for the Pack N' Go Plan which only includes certain post-departure coverages. Or, if you travel often, the Annual Plan can cover your trips throughout the year.

Finally, Travel Guard offers "offline" travel insurance packages, meaning you'll have to call if you're looking for a specialty plan.

Coverage types

Depending on the plan, here are the types of protection Travel Guard can include in your package:

  • Trip cancellations
  • Trip interruption
  • Baggage coverage
  • Baggage delay
  • Travel medical expenses
  • Travel inconvenience benefits (reimbursement for such situations as runway delays, cruise diversion and other unforeseen situations)
  • Medical evacuation
  • Trip Saver (reimbursement for meals, hotels and transportation if you need to begin your trip sooner due to weather or airline changes)
  • Trip exchange (reimbursement in case you have to cancel your trip and book a new one due to covered unforeseen circumstances)
  • Security evacuation (due to a riot or civil disorder)
  • Flight guard (coverage for accidental death or dismemberment that occurs when traveling by plane)
  • Pre-existing medical conditions exclusion waiver

You can also customize your plan with add-ons, such as car rental insurance and "cancel for any reason" coverage .

Travel Guard landed on our list of the best travel insurance companies thanks to its variety of coverage. With plenty of options to choose from, both online and offline, it's easy to build a policy that meets your needs.

Travel Guard also features 24-hour concierge services that you can use to book a new flight in case of an emergency or delay.

The provider's website also offers informational resources — here, you can check travel news, read safety tips and find general travel advice. Additionally, the website lets you modify your plan, file a claim and check its status, or apply for a voucher or refund.

As of writing, Travel Guard doesn't offer any discounts. That's common for travel insurance — you're more likely to find deals when shopping for other types of insurance, such as home and auto insurance .

Travel Guard is a portfolio of travel insurance and travel-related services offered by AIG Travel, a member of American International Group (AIG). AIG also offers life insurance and a variety of business insurance products.

Travel Guard makes it easy to get a travel insurance policy customized to your needs. But before you purchase coverage, it's always a good idea to shop around.

For example, if you're going on a cruise, you might want to look at Nationwide Travel Insurance . The provider advertises cruise-specific insurance with three plan options available. This type of coverage is designed with issues unique to cruises in mind — from ship-based breakdowns to missed pre-pard excursions.

If you're planning a more active trip filled with rock climbing or sky diving, Berkshire Hathaway offers the AdrenalineCare® plan which features coverage for unforeseen costs that result from participating in extreme sports on your trip, as well as reimbursement for sporting equipment delay. Pre-existing conditions are covered under this plan (if you meet qualifying conditions).

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection has multiple plans to cover vacations from luxury travel to adventure travel. The brand's LuxuryCare offers the highest limits of travel insurance coverage offered by the company. Quotes and policies are available online.

As you can see, offerings vary by provider. It can be helpful to compare multiple companies and the plans they offer to find what works best for you. It's even better if you gather several quotes to ensure you're getting a good price for your policy.

Money matters — so make the most of it. Get expert tips, strategies, news and everything else you need to maximize your money, right to your inbox.  Sign up here .

Travel Guard offers plenty of ways to customize your policy, making it a solid choice for travel insurance. You can also access additional options by giving Travel Guard a call. However, make sure to check out other travel insurance companies too — comparison shopping is essential when picking any type of financial product.

The actual holiday in Madeira was good. Quality of hotel was first class. The problem was with the "based at home" Saga customer care. Originally booked six months in advance to fly BA from Heathrow. E mail received 13 days before we fly to say now Easy Jet from Gatwick at 11.00 am.
