The Eagles Announce ‘The Long Goodbye’ Farewell Tour Dates, Steely Dan to Support

The Eagles have just announced a series of 2023 tour dates, the first on their The Long Goodbye farewell tour. Fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act Steely Dan have been tabbed as support for the fall run.

Much like Deep Purple 's own The Long Goodbye tour, the trek does not have a set end date, though The Eagles are expected to be on the road through 2025 and will "perform as many shows in each marker at their audience demands," per a press release.

The band is currently comprised of Don Henley , Joe Walsh , Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill and Deacon Frey.

The first batch of dates features a total of 13 stops between Sept. 7 and Nov. 17, all of which can be seen further down the page.

Reflecting on their massively successful 50-plus year career and the upcoming farewell jaunt, The Eagles released the following statement:

The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds. LOS ANGELES , July 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — After more than 50 years of touring, and consistently selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide, the Eagles announced today that their upcoming “The Long Goodbye”  will be the band’s final tour.

Thirteen shows will be initially announced. The first set of dates will begin September 7, 2023 , in New York .

The Eagles’ long-time contemporaries and fellow Hall of Famers, Steely Dan,  will be joining these historic shows and commemorating their own 50+ year career.

Presale tickets and VIP packages will be available starting Wednesday, July 12 for all announced shows. The general on-sale will start Friday, July 14 at 10:00 AM local time.

During “The Long Goodbye,” the Eagles – Don Henley , Joe Walsh , Timothy B. Schmit , with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

Over the band’s more than 50 years of touring, the Eagles have performed more than 1,000 concerts around the world, accounting for more than 15 million tickets. Eagles’ tours have consistently ranked in the Top 10 of both concert industry publications, Billboard and Pollstar .

In the Fall of 1971, the Eagles formed, pioneered, and personified a uniquely American musical style blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities, and would go onto become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time.  In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons.

The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. They earned six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their very first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The band’s Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.  Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum.  After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and earned two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid In Town” and “Hotel California.”

The Eagles band members

When you’ve been living life in the fast lane since 1971 (!), a bit of shuffling when it comes to your group’s lineup is to be expected.

Still, to this day, 75-year-old, founding member Don Henley (drums, vocals, also known for the ’80s smash “Boys of Summer), continues to tour with the group.

On the road, he’ll be joined by 75-year-old Joe Walsh (also of the James Gang), 75-year-old Timothy B. Schmit (bassist and vocalist, played with Poco), 22-time Grammy winner 65-year-old Vince Gill and the late Glenn Frey’s 30-year-old son Deacon.

Over the course of their illustrious career, the band has racked up six Grammy awards, performed over 1000 concerts and sold 150 million albums.

Not too shabby.

The Eagles set list

On their last tour, The Eagles played their classic 1976 “Hotel California” album in its entirety and threw in a few additional hits for good measure.

Most recently, jazzy rockers Steely Dan toured all over North America in summer 2022 as part of their ‘Earth After Hours Tour.’

These days, the band is led by Donald Fagen; his co-founder Walter Becker passed away in 2017.

If you want to catch up on the band’s hit (we know you do), you can hear “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” “Hey 19,” “Kid Charlemagne,” “Do It Again,” “Reelin’ In The Years” and so many more  right here, right now .

The Eagles Announce New 2023 ‘Hotel California’ Tour Dates

The Eagles aren't done yet. The legendary rock band (including Vince Gill ) have announced a new batch of tour dates featuring the iconic Hotel California album.

Six additional  Hotel California Tour dates have been tacked on to the 2023 calendar, bringing the total to 12, plus one non-tour show in California on Feb. 17.

The run is (for now) scheduled to end on April 7, but fans could be forgiven for hoping even more dates will be added.

Per our friends at Ultimate Classic Rock , the Hotel California Tour started in 2019 and paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 they picked back up with an aggressive slate of shows.

Don Henley ,  Joe Walsh  and  Timothy B. Schmit  will lead Gill and the rest of the touring band, orchestra and choir through the full Hotel California album (1976) and then greatest hits.

Deacon Frey will not be present for the shows. In April, the son of the late Glenn Frey stepped away from the band to pursue his own music. This tightens the band up to a four piece.

Tickets for these new Hotel California Tour dates will go on sale Jan. 13 at 10AM local time.

I have always wanted to see The Eagles as a matter of fact it is a bucket list concert. My very first time going to the see them and I was not disappointed. Three and a half hours of pure music with a small break. I sang along with almost every song the band played. I have gotten used to politics in concerts this was a politics free zone. thank you so much for the break.

One gripe if I have one it seemed like the special guest was Joe Walsh, he played James Gang to Eagles songs. It is a small gripe because the guy is just amazing. One thing I noticed just from being old when the girl came out in the Hotel California set to flip the album she actually did not flip the the album. yes I am old. but it was a great effect.

I would go see them again in 1/2 a heart beat.

What. A. Show! I grew up listening to the Eagles, either on album, CD, or my dad playing his guitar. It was a truly wonderful experience to be able to see them live with my dad and watch his enjoyment of seeing a band he’s loved for so long live. The staging and pace of the show was absolutely amazing and set the tone perfectly, and the graphics and lighting designers definitely did their best work. We were close to the stage and it was absolutely fascinating to watch all the cameras recording the event, as well. The band was exceptional but the team behind them is definitely to be commended for this one! I hope everyone who sees this tour has the same level of enjoyment my family and I did!

Experiencing the September, 2019 Eagles "Hotel California" concert at the MGM was a musical trip into near perfection.

The sound was very good even in our very expensive nosebleed seats.

The place was packed and the audience nonstop in its loud and persistent appreciation of all things Eagles, especially new members Deacon Frey and Vince Gill.

Longtime mega-talented members Henley, Walsh and Smith were true crowd pleasers, as they always are.

Having a full orchestra and an angelic choir from UNLV supporting the endeavor was at times ethereally mesmerizing to the point of enthrallment.

Once again the Eagles have lived up to their reputation as purveyors of musical excellence.

The Eagles Long Goodbye: See the setlist for the legendary rock band's final tour

the eagles tour dates for 2023

It will be a long goodbye for the Eagles, who announced their final tour in July and vow to stay on the road through 2025 - or until they hit every market that might welcome them, sometimes more than once.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers kicked off their farewell at New York's Madison Square Garden Sept. 7 with a 23-song setlist that spotlights their myriad hits – "Take it Easy," "Witchy Woman," "Tequila Sunrise," "Life in the Fast Lane" and of course, "Hotel California" among them – and also paid tribute to "dear friend" Jimmy Buffett, who died Sept. 1 , and original Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, who died in July.

As on past tours, the core of Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh are joined by upper-register maestro Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, son of the late Eagles legend Glenn Frey. The additional four musicians backing the Eagles augment an already pristine sound for this two-hour hits parade.

Here is a look at the songs being performed on the Eagles' Long Goodbye tour.

Giants' 2024 Opponents Ranked By Prime Time Probability

Which of the New York Giants' 2024 games will look most attractive to the NFL's national television partners?

  • Author: Geoff Magliocchetti
  • Publish date: May 02, 2024

In this story:

At their team's current pace, New York Giants fans might not have to wait all day until Sunday night.

Though the Giants made a few notable moves (i.e., trading for Brian Burns drafting Malik Nabers), the upcoming 2024 season figures to be another part of a rebuild, especially in an NFC packed to the brim with established contenders.

Big Blue, however, remains a nationally recognized brand even in defeat (lest we forget Tommy DeVito-mania), which will undoubtedly lead the NFL's national television partners to come their way at some point(s) this season.

With the league's annual attachment of dates and times to the 32 slates coming this month, which of the Giants games seems best destined to land the national TV treatment?

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley

Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports

1. Philadelphia Eagles

For better or worse, Saquon Barkley is -- and was -- the Giants' franchise face in the new decade. The resulting stretch of agonizing-to-passable football in that span perhaps made Giants fans indifferent to his departure, but he perhaps picked the worst possible new home in Big Blue's eyes in the form of the resurgent Eagles.

Coming off a disappointing conclusion to their NFC title defense (which featured a loss to the Giants in Week 18), Philadelphia immediately reloaded, as Barkley is just one of several major high-octane additions (joined by Bryce Huff, Devin White, and draft picks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean).

Despite the recent one-sided nature of the series (Philadelphia had won six of eight before the Giants broke through on Broad Street), the prospect of a Barkley Bowl (plus an NFC East draw) should no doubt woo the national networks.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4)

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

2. Dallas Cowboys

Death, taxes, Giants-Cowboys in a national slot, no? The unspoken tradition of opening the NFL season with a matchup between the long-running, if not geographically bizarre, rivalry resumed last year with a 40-0 Dallas shellacking that set the tone for the Giants' dreary season. Before a two-season hiatus at the start of the decade, at least one-half of the yearly New York-Dallas earned the national privilege for 14 consecutive years.

So why have the Cowboys fallen to the runner-up spot? Statistics show that half of their slate will probably continue to draw national eyes even if a Giants match is eschewed, but their offseason inactivity makes Philadelphia a better draw.

The Giants' lost control of the rivalry narrative also removes a little luster, as they've been pounded by the Cowboys to a 1-13 record since - 2017.

LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels (5)

Matthew Hinton-USA TODAY Sports

3. Washington Commanders

It's hard convincing this current generation that matchups between the Giants and whatever Washington's NFL franchise is opting to call itself these days.  The Commanders' moniker is 0-3-1 against the Giants, including a blue sweep last season. However, that hasn't stopped the national networks from partaking: a Giants-Commanders game has gotten prime-time honors in two of the past three seasons.

Offseason renovations in the nation's capital, headlined by new franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels, could make this American rivalry great again, especially if the networks opt to play up what the Giants could've had with a rookie quarterback.

Speaking of draft activities, some eyes will also be interested in this matchup, as Daniels' favorite target during his Heisman season at LSU was newly minted Giant Malik Nabers.

Brian Burns of Carolina chases Giants quarterback Daniel Jones

Chris Pedota, NorthJersey.com / USA

4. Carolina Panthers

The NFL no longer opts to obligate each team to at least one national television appearance . But if the Panthers are going to get one, the Giants' upcoming visit to Bank of America Stadium feels like a good bet.

Carolina won't have to wait long for the return of two-time Pro Bowler and recent blue trade acquisition Brian Burns, as the Giants are set to make their first visit to Charlotte since 2018.

That, however, is in question, as the Panthers are set to host this year's Germany game. The Giants are 3-0 in international games, all  staged in London (including the 2022 win over Green Bay).

Some major names (primarily Kirk Cousins) have moved on, but this will make the first meetings between blue and purple since the Giants conquered the Vikings in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs just over a year ago.

Beyond the playoff rematch, there are enough headlines to keep this matchup interesting, such as the chance to step into a bayou-based receiving time machine (Nabers facing fellow LSU alum Justin Jefferson) and another "what could've been" situation at quarterback (new Minnesota franchise man J.J. McCarthy going four picks after Nabers).

6. Cincinnati Bengals

It's a shame Jim Hawthorne won't be available to call this interconference showdown, as another LSU homecoming weekend awaits.

This one will feature Nabers squaring off against Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, each of whom will see blue for the first time in their careers.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers

There isn't much heat between the Giants and Steelers, especially in modern times, thanks to their interconference nature.

However, with Pittsburgh hosting New York for the first time since 2016, the two sides are consistent draws for the NFL's television partners.

A Giants-Steelers game opened 2020's Monday night slate, and each of the last five meetings has been decided by 10 points or less.

8. Seattle Seahawks

The idea of facing off against Geno Smith is hardly enough to sustain the national allure of a third straight meeting between New York and Seattle, though the game's Pacific Northwest setting ensures that it will at least sit in a late Sunday window.

9. Baltimore Ravens

Feeling nostalgic as Super Bowl XXXV reaches its 25th anniversary? Giants fans probably aren't, but that's still far from enough to draw mainstream allure to this rare meeting.

If Odell Beckham Jr. had any intentions of staying in Charm City, that's another story. But at this point, it's a story of two teams embarking on drastically different directions.

10. Atlanta Falcons

Quarterback drama allows the Falcons to crack the top 10. Atlanta decided to draft Michael Penix two choices after the Giants brought Nabers in.

Penix probably won't be starting against the Giants , barring medical disaster . Still, the Giants have their fair share of history against new franchise man Kirk Cousins, though that's hardly enough to warrant a national slot.

Aaron Stinnie

11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

As Tampa Bay faces the Giants for the first time since 2021, someone is missing from their proceedings. Aaron Stinnie, of course, as the lineman now lingers on the Giants' roster.

Then again, Ben Bredeson, a starter on the Giants offensive line, went to Tampa, so there's that.

The Buccaneers are chasing their fourth straight division title, and the Giants should be a winnable game on that trek.

Myles Garrett

12. Cleveland Browns

The Browns should be back with a vengeance as they seek to create their first consecutive playoff berth since the  first  Bush administration.

Don't expect the Giants to play a prominent part in the national resurgence tour, considering their rivalry fizzled out upon the introduction of the Super Bowl and that none of the recent matchups have been close (six consecutive meetings decided by at least two possessions).

undefined

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (9)

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

13. New Orleans Saints

Barring the highly unlikely revival tours of Eli Manning and/or Drew Brees, there's not much to get excited about in this battle of NFC teams who have little history or animosity with each other beyond the 2015 Superdome shootout.

undefined

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

14. Indianapolis Colts

A Bobby Okereke revenge game isn't enough to add allure to this interconference matchup. The Giants and Colts did battle in "The Greatest Game Ever Played" back in 1958, but don't expect a sequel even if young Indianapolis passing sensation Anthony Richardson makes his return.

The fact that this game was set up by matching third-place finishes in each side's respective division probably says it all.

Katt Williams Wants to Show You the Receipts

After setting the internet aflame earlier this year when he slammed several other comedians in a viral interview, he plans to say more of what’s on his mind in a rare live special on Netflix.

Standing in a doorway next to a curtain, Katt Williams, in golf clothes and sunglasses, extends one arm while putting a gloved hand up to his forehead as if shading his eyes from the sun.

By Elena Bergeron

Reporting from Ponte Vedra Beach and Jacksonville, Fla.

In the crowded landscape of athlete podcasts , “Club Shay Shay,” hosted by the retired N.F.L. star Shannon Sharpe, mostly served sports fans and observers of Black Hollywood since it started in 2020 with interviews with DaBaby and Deion Sanders.

That was until Katt Williams appeared on the show in January and for nearly three hours delivered an incendiary, rollicking and, at points, curiously uplifting interview that pervaded the internet like nothing else this year. Williams accused other big-name comedians of stealing jokes and movie roles from him, riffed on why partying with Diddy (or Jeffrey Epstein or Harvey Weinstein) is a bad idea, asserted that he read 3,000 books a year as a child and claimed that at 52, he was capable of running a 40-yard dash in less than 5 seconds.

The interview has been viewed more than 67 million times on YouTube, numbers that put it on par with Joe Rogan’s blazing episode with Elon Musk, the industry high-water mark for video podcasts. Its most outrageous moments have been shared, excerpted and spoofed on so many other platforms that even that figure understates its impact. According to Williams, who said he wrote out his part of the dialogue in advance, it’s just what happens when he sets the record straight.

“I’m quite likely to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God,” he said during the interview.

Beyond raising Sharpe’s numbers, the spot helped Williams move tickets to his “Dark Matter” tour and got the PGA interested in hosting him at T.P.C. Sawgrass, the golf course that serves as a playground for pros and that most others will see only by plugging in “PGA Tour Golf” into their PlayStations. On the course, in between shots, he says he made his nuclear-option remarks carefully, responding to rumors — in some cases, told by people he spoke up about — that have dogged him for years about drug use, erratic behavior and arrests (though, he said, no convictions). “I thought that I had worked out a way of breaking the internet, and I felt pretty confident,” he said with a Mr. Rogers level of thoughtfulness. “So I wrote it kind of like a one-man movie, with the intention of its outcome. And — —”

“You’re great, Katt,” a man trills as he passes in his golf cart.

“ Thank you so much,” Williams replies, then pulls to a stop.

“If I let it go at this point, they can actually rewrite history,” he says. Few things unnerve him more than a poor chronicling of facts. That’s probably because few people are better at weaving narratives that seem too incredible not to be true, like when he describes how he taught himself to fall asleep in exactly 59 seconds. (“It wasn’t something I knew I needed but it’s changed my [expletive] life!”)

The things that make Katt Williams such a great raconteur — he is diligent about numbers, inexhaustible in his curiosity and meticulous about his delivery — have made him a persistent presence in comedy since he emerged from the standup world over 30 years ago, through regular appearances on the improv sketch show “Wild ’N Out” and as a scene-stealing dervish in movies like “Friday After Next.” That his improbable rise from homelessness to one of the most prolific, and profitable, comics of his generation isn’t looked on as a feat of craft and yeoman effort, well, that was a record that needed straightening. Williams grabbed even the furthest corners of the internet to do so, and now that he’s got everyone’s attention he is gearing up for the ultimate told-you-so — “Woke Foke,” set to air globally on Saturday. It’s Netflix’s second-ever live special after Chris Rock’s last year .

Williams, who does not work his material in clubs partly because of the looming threat of joke-stealing, has been prepping his material on a 100-date arena tour where audiences were not asked to lock away their phones. It seems a sure way to spoil the act he and Netflix are banking big on. It’s also a show of extreme faith in his current set, and will make for a high-wire debut for the roughly 25 percent of new material he’ll deliver live in Los Angeles.

“ He’s one of the most exceptional improvisational comedians of our time,” says Robbie Praw, Netflix’s vice president of standup and comedy formats. “He does often change his material close to tapings, which is a key reason why he was the perfect person to be our second live special. Because there is something super exciting about that. When there’s no script, there’s no net.”

Or as Williams himself puts it, “The benefit of Katt Williams live is that you don’t, in any way, know what he’s going to say.”

THOUGH HE USUALLY PLAYS golf alongside the retired athletes he’s friends with or someone from the tour crew, today Williams plays this round effectively solo. An assistant named Rhonda trails him in a separate cart driven by a cigar-smoking bodyguard. Later, he calls out to Rhonda, who dutifully takes photos when Williams points up at the trees that rim a rippling green, where two bald eagles have alighted on branches near their nest. “Look at that,” Williams marvels through an open-mouthed grin.

Over the round, he’ll point out a peregrine falcon swooping in to feed, stop in the middle of a fairway to show Rhonda and a caddie a woodpecker that has gotten thisclose to severing a branch, and sprint across one tee box to stand under a magnolia tree and catch its wafting perfume. He’s got dozens of them lining his 100-acre farm, he says.

That sprint to the magnolia, and several more full-speed runs from fairway back to the golf cart, each have the same track-star form he showed in an Emmy-winning cameo on “Atlanta” that ended with his character bolting from the house where he’d kept both his girlfriend and an alligator illegally. Williams displayed that same running form when he showed up at the Dallas Cowboys’ facility in February and ran a 40-yard dash in 4.97 seconds. His claim on Sharpe’s podcast seemed suspect until Williams clocked the time in front of an audience, while wearing Dior sneakers.

Williams left his home in Ohio at 13 over a religious dispute with his parents and landed in Miami, where he says he supported himself stealing car radios and cleaning restaurants. His stint in a homeless encampment introduced him to addicts, many of whom had once been high-functioning professionals. The extent to which those stories informed his reaction to the drug rumors is in the numbers, too. He still does 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups a day. That 40-yard-dash time, it’s denial through demonstration.

To those who accuse him of using, he says, “at some point, even as an idiot, you’re going to have to acknowledge that these drugs should be taking some toll on me. At some point, I shouldn’t be better and faster and stronger because of them.”

Williams has an allegiance to numbers typically reserved for athletes and actuaries, and it’s apparent in the quantifiable way he breaks down his sets. “I try to write the seven to 10 most [expletive] things that I think,” he says, “and I try to make that into the comedy show.” An hourlong special comprises 10 to 12 stand-alone pieces, which usually leaves him looking to add a bit or two as he’s writing. For this run, he says he’s needed to pare down what started as a 90-minute set.

On the road, Williams hones an act by watching footage of the previous night for the first 30 or so dates. “My job is to let this guy know, ‘Hey, you’re looking old out there, like, you going to work this stage?’” he says, adding that he’s most often not refining the words but the delivery — a bigger gesture, a different tilt of his head.

Williams has been writing and performing and refining in this way for 37 years, ever since he won a standup competition in Ruskin, Fla., at 16. The prize was a five-minute opening slot on a tour that featured Richard Jeni, Jeff Foxworthy and Dan Whitney, later known as Larry the Cable Guy.

“He respects the craft,” says Mo’Nique, who is touring with Williams for the first time on “Dark Matter.”

“He respects the ones that came before him. He respects those doors being open. He respects the obligation of, the craft of being a comedian.”

HIS REVERENCE FOR JOURNEYMEN COMICS , those who prove their mettle on live stages night after night, fueled many of the shots Williams took during the Sharpe interview at funnymen who no longer work the circuit, or those who had gotten specials without a lengthy road history. He felt assured in his criticisms, and that there wouldn’t be effective retaliation, he says, “because there’s no big dogs for them to call other than Chappelle, and Chappelle would never cross me. Dun dun dun dun, and then he did!”

Williams is referring to Dave Chappelle’s response to the beefs onstage, saying, “Katt is one of the best painters in the game. So why are you drawing ugly pictures of us?”

Though the question stung (Williams referred to Chappelle as “the king”), Williams stood by his attack: “If I came to tell you a beautiful story, I would have painted you a beautiful picture. I was trying to paint a story of a group of ugly [expletive] that would do things that would hurt you and uplift them, even though they didn’t need to do that. And then instead of helping you or befriending you, that they would,” he pauses to let out a disbelieving sigh, “go so far as to steal from you if they couldn’t emulate you and then lie about you.”

While waiting for the foursome ahead to finish a late-round hole, Williams entertains the question of whether art can be competitive. “History is just a collection of the people that did things the best,” he says between drags of a prerolled joint. Williams brings up Mozart and Chopin, masters who have been studied for centuries.

That’s his aim in comedy, he says. “I will, without question, be one of the greatest comedians that ever lived just because of the body of work.”

Williams means for his 12 specials to be assessed as a whole. It’s a yearslong conversation with an audience that began in 2006’s “Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1,” his electric big-league introduction that built to a flaming indictment of a different celebrity, Michael Jackson, two years before the pop star’s death and a decade before the “Leaving Neverland” documentary.

His more recent specials have skewed toward topics that tend to send people down conspiracy rabbit holes. On a 2023 Marc Maron podcast episode, Williams said he swapped out about half of the material in his 2022 “World War III” special after touring and receiving notes from Netflix about the show’s darkness, which he said was “turned up viciously high” around race and religion. The set still hit one of its funniest peaks in a riff on how the Nazis became such a fearsome military — by producing and consuming methamphetamine. He told Maron he’d be happy if listeners Googled whether that was true.

The night after his round of golf, Williams’s sold-out audience at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville looks perfect for national election polling. There are women in extended-size bodycon dresses, men in Tommy Bahama-esque shirts and couples in matching satin short sets, carrying yard dogs filled with frozen rum runners to their seats.

Williams works through a brisk set, zipping darts at Diddy and Ron DeSantis, with a knockdown bit about white slavery. When it’s done, lounging in a locker room where Chet Baker’s version of “My Funny Valentine” rings out against the tiles, Williams suggests that the live Netflix show might delve into touchier topics, if they exist. “I can’t discuss, maybe, Israel and Palestine and Iran until live?”

The key to skirting flammable topics and still landing a laugh, he says, is “no matter what joke I’m telling or who the focus of that joke is, the thing that you’re supposed to get from it is that my heart is in the right place. But I see what I see.”
