The cruise was loudly advertised by them with photos of cheerful jumping dolphins, so we also expected it to be something like a safari. We know that dolphins are wild animals and they don't always show themselves, but how could they possibly swim under the ship if the music was so loud that it would burst their eardrums? They played music like from a disco and made foam with a machine where people were "dancing", and you either fell into a wild trance (you must have had a few paid beers) or looked at it with embarrassment. It was half and half. Besides, this whole "cruise" was a terrible commercial activity, and the methods of extorting money were truly mafia-like. A simple example: One guy was walking with a parrot, putting it on tourists' shoulders, then putting it in his arms, and the other one was taking photos. Then they disappeared somewhere for two hours and came back with several hundred photos from that cruise developed and they were asking for 5 euros (!) for each photo. In addition, they made some ceramic mug saucers with our images and collages framed in wooden frames. I didn't even ask how much it costs. We were simply sorry that they wasted so much photographic paper and ceramics on photos that no one would buy. Dinner was a hit. You could choose fish (trout, I think) or chicken. Everything served with rice and salad. My wife had concerns about the cleanliness of the cutlery. She sprayed them with disinfectant and wiped them with a tissue, and rightly so, the tissue was all yellow. All Germans then borrowed this liquid from us. We stopped in this supposed village twice, just to spend money with their friends. The crew was terrible, just filth. One of the main ones who talked into the microphone during the cruise got a nickname from us "lollo pierdollo" because he just went around and hit on old German chicks. The bus we rode in had no windows. The children were blown away so much that they howled. The only thing that was cool and unusual was that they anchored the ship near this island of dolphins and you could jump into the sea and take a bath. The sights were spectacular and the swim break at green lake was amazing! Great water fights with other buses throughout the day - please note if you’re a grumpy old German couple who has no interest in having fun or getting wet (like the miserable sods we had on our bus) then this is not for you! We were then taken to the ancient ruins then a stop off at the green lake with a boat trip provided whilst lunch was prepared. Lunch was served and then there was some free time to go for a swim or enjoy a foam party. Afterwards we got back on the bus and taken to the dam and the Manavgat waterfalls which both were excellent. We were then dropped off at the hotel again. A fabulous tour and Vulcan was excellent as a tour guide. He spoke excellent English, there was singing and dancing on the bus and we had waterfights with the other tours. The trip itself was 3 stops with only one you were able to jump off the boat. The other two were at the same place at the start and the end which was on the beach at the mouth of the river. Funny enough this was also where they had jet skies and a cafe which was clearly operated by them also. The guide was excellent and he was available the whole trip. Was picked up on the hotel buy a bus. I think the guides name was Kaadir 5 stars to you! Perfekt wie immer

Pünktlich vom Hotel abgeholt, deutschsprechender Reiseleiter bereits an Bord. Da mehrere Nationalitäten im Bus waren (im Februar gibt es nicht so viele Touristen hier), hat dieser alles in (sehr gutem) Deutsch und in Englisch erzählt. Nach Ankunft in Alanyas Hafen hatten wir zunächst etwas Zeit für eigene Erkundungen. Anschließend eine Stunde auf einem Piratenschiff durch das Hafenbecken und um die Halbinsel herum. Danach mit dem Bus zum Dim Fluss zum Mittagessen. Terrassenlokal direkt am Fluss. Man hatte die Wahl zwischen Fisch und Hähnchenspießen, dazu konnten wir uns vom Salatbuffet bedienen. Essen war einfach, aber frisch und sehr lecker. Anschließend Fahrt zum Kleopatra Strand. Zeit für Seilbahnfahrt (inklusive) auf den Burgberg. Sehr empfehlenswert, tolle Aussicht. Danach sind wir noch in die Damlatas-Tropfsteinhöhle (Eintritt 2€) direkt am Strand gegangen. Ganz hübsch, aber sehr klein. Dauert nur wenige Minuten. Dann auf der Rückfahrt zu den Hotels noch ein kurzer Stopp an einer Bananenplantage. Insgesamt ein toller Ausflug, gut organisiert, netter Reiseleiter, keine Verkaufsveranstaltung! Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Ich buche meine Tagesausflüge in der Türkei ausschließlich bei Vigotours, besser geht es einfach nicht!

Wrexham finalise tour schedule including Whitecaps, Chelsea and Bournemouth friendlies

Wrexham will play in co-owner Ryan Reynolds’ home city of Vancouver on their pre-season tour of the USA and Canada.

Phil Parkinson’s newly-promoted side head to the 54,500-capacity BC Place on Saturday July 27 to face the Whitecaps in the final outing of a three-game tour that also includes clashes with two Premier League teams.

First up on July 20 at Santa Barbara’s Harder Stadium will be a meeting with Bournemouth , followed four days later by taking on Chelsea in Levi’s Stadium, the home of San Francisco 49ers.

This will be the second consecutive summer that Wrexham have headed across the Atlantic after last July facing Chelsea and Manchester United during a four-game tour that took in North Carolina, Los Angeles, San Diego and co-owner Rob McElhenney’s home city of Philadelphia.

“Last year’s U.S. Tour was a fantastic experience and a memorable trip for all the players and staff,” says manager Phil Parkinson.

“After another successful campaign, we’re delighted to be heading to the west coast again this summer, and we’re also looking forward to venturing up to Vancouver and spreading the club’s footprint into Canada.

“It will be a great chance to meet new supporters, while also building for the 2024/25 League One season.”

How Wrexham, Reynolds and McElhenney celebrated back-to-back promotions

Wrexham’s reduced itinerary and travelling time follows a debrief into last summer’s trip, when the squad zig-zagged from east to west and back again before heading home just one week before the new season got under way.

Now, the players will be back home a little under a fortnight before the big EFL kick-off on August 10, with the plan being to stage one final pre-season friendly on UK soil.

Along with the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, club officials see the trips across the Atlantic as a key part of building an international audience.

Last year’s two-week long trip saw a small profit made from ticket sales and merchandise as crowds flocked to watch the newly-promoted National League champions.

But, the real benefits are expected to come down the line, via tapping into that lucrative U.S. and Canadian market.

Wrexham also proved good for local businesses last year, with one local tourist official forecasting a £15.3 million ($20 million) boost to the local economy in North Carolina around the Chelsea match, which was watched by an attendance of 50,596.

Explore Gothic revivalist architecture of the Green-Meldrim House and St John’s Church

May brings warmer weather and a special double tour to Savannah. Tucked into the tree-covered west side of Madison Square is St. John’s Church and the Green-Meldrim House. Both are independently open for tours, but on Wednesdays in May, visitors will be able to get a special tour of both.

The tour will guide people through both Gothic Revivalist buildings with special attention to the unique architectural details, the history, and the symbolism, followed by refreshments of cheese straws, Benne wafer cookies, lemon blueberry poundcake, and pimento cheese sandwiches.

This is a step in a new direction for the Green-Meldrim House. The historic home was purchased by St. John’s Church in 1943, and while it is used as a parish house and rectory, it was eventually opened as a house museum.

Jamie Credle, who is no stranger to Savannah’s historic house museums, having previously worked with the Davenport House, took over as executive director in July of last year. A few months later, the house museum reached nonprofit status, and Sherry Holtzclaw stepped up as president of the Keepers of Historic Green-Meldrim House.

“I'd say [the idea to start the nonprofit] came out of the vestry, which is the group that runs the church,” said Holtzclaw. “Seeing that our volunteer base was shrinking as people were getting older, more young people are working and don't have the time to volunteer, and it's a lot of upkeep to keep this house heated and cooled and in repair, as well as to lead tours, it was just getting to be a big job that we needed some help with.”

Holtzclaw said she has been a member of St. John’s for around 30 years and has volunteered at the house for approximately 20 years in various roles.

Both Holtzclaw and Credle are excited to expand resident and visitor appreciation of the Green-Meldrim House and St. John’s Church as well as what all the historic house museum can offer.

“It's an evolutionary process,” said Credle. “The Keepers have a wealth of understanding of collections and research, but I think that the whole point was to get in lockstep together with what we think the future can be.”

New docents will be leading the tours

After several months of recruiting and training new docents to build upon the core of docents, Credle said it was the perfect time to try a new tour.

“One of our goals for the year is to be open five days a week. We're open four now, but we also wanted to do something imaginative or different than your typical tour. A lot of people would love to see the church, and we've got our docents so this combo tour seemed like filling a need.”

Credle said she hopes the 75-minute tour will leave people with a new appreciation for Madison Square and gothic revival architecture.

“Though it seems sort of old to us, this was cutting-edge architecturally. We talk about mid-century modern in the 20th century. Well, this was mid-century modern in the 19th century. It was a stunning thing to see both this house and the church together, two different architects, two different functions for spaces, but a cutting-edge square here.”

“Plus, they were being built at the same time,” said Holtzclaw. “Charles Green [the original owner of the Green-Meldrim House] knew some of the people that were in on the planning of the church. So there probably was some interaction and collaboration when all this was happening.”

While the house is stunning from its bright pink exterior to the black, white, and wood-grained interior, Holtzclaw said the church is equally impressive.

“One of the first things you notice when you go in the church, besides the architecture and the steep ceiling, is the stained-glass windows and how beautiful they are. They’re very old. They're from 1886 and made in England. They feature prominently in the church. Also, up at the altar, there are some very interesting pieces up there. We'll talk about not only the architecture but some of the symbolism.”

It’s important to note that, for anyone with mobility issues, there is a ramp into the church, but there is no ramp or elevator in the Green-Meldrim House.

For those who fall in love with the tours and want to help in the future, Credle said they are looking for more docents, front-door greeters, and gift shop volunteers. The museum also has a youth guide program.

“We're training teenagers this summer to be tour guides. It’s a wonderful skill. It could be after their daytime job if they have that.”

Tours are each Wednesday in May starting on the first and ending on the 29th. There will be two tours each afternoon at 1 and 2:30 p.m. except on May 8th at 2 and 4 p.m. Entry is $25 per person and will need to be purchased prior to the event at GreenMeldrimHouse.org.

More new things are on the way for the Green-Meldrim House. Credle said the museum is also planning for new tours and a lecture series in the fall. It will be interesting to see the evolution of the museum with the Keepers of Historic Green-Meldrim House and the museum’s new executive director at the helm.
