Best of the West (12 Days)

The tour was good, the destination highlights were amazing! The hotels were good, but sometimes outside towns so there was nothing to do and not much choice for food- a bit disappointing. Breakfast not included. The guide was good, driver amazing! There was a lot of extras to choose from, so spent more than originally anticipated this will cost, especially with tips!

Because of such a wonder tour guide it made the tour interesting and Randy had a lot of knowledge. When we had long coach rides we played games on and even watched videos. Well organised to the tour guide and bus driver John.

Overall our family had a great experience The tour guides were nice and helpful , our second tour guide Gratyana was especially very knowledgeable and organized and gave equal explanations in all 3 languages The hotel booked in Vegas , as to the Luxor could get a better option with atleast a coffee machine or a water cooker in the room Some of the important points within a city were always only in the Optional tour and not in the core programme . Atleast it should be seen to it that the top 5 attractions in a city were included within the core program even if it calls for revising the core prices Wake-up alarms at hotels were not necessary as we had our own alarms and were thought to be a forceful imposed botheration ????

The tour was excellent, hotels were amazing and you couldn't fault the tour guide Laura. Everything was taken care of and we were kept well informed of everything all of the time. A trip of a lifetime! I can't wait to book the next one. The only thing I would say is that I think the optional activities should have been included in the price considering how expensive it is.

Carmel-by-the-Sea

This small beachfront city is dotted with European-style cottages, art galleries, and specialty boutiques, and serves as the perfect starting point to explore greater Monterey County. The city is littered with courtyards and secret passageways that will make you feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. In Carmel-by-the-Sea, there are no mailboxes, addresses, or parking meters. It does, however, offer boutique shopping along with a burgeoning art and wine scene.

Stanford University is one of the top research universities in the world. The university, founded by Jane and Leland Stanford, is renowned for its entrepreneurial character. Moreover, the university has made significant contributions to diverse fields of study including social and engineering sciences. Stanford is situated in California’s Bay Area, one of the most intellectually saturated and culturally nuanced areas in the world.

Silicon Valley is the global center of technological innovation. The term Silicon Valley was first used in 1971 as silicon was pervasive in the manufacturing of the computer chip. This manufacturing was critical to the Santa Clara economy. The Valley is comprised of small cities that radiate out from Stanford University in Palo Alto. The engineering prowess of Silicon Valley has produced some of the most successful entrepreneurs in terms of technology such as Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. An HP facility once stood where Campus 2 is situated. The valley is innovative, powerful, and super competitive.

San Francisco is compact, forward-thinking, and family-friendly. Though the gold seekers are long gone, the “City by the Bay’ remains golden, from its iconic bridge to its sparkling personality. The Golden Gate Bridge is the most recognizable feature of the city’s skyline. Vintage cable cars have rolled along the roads since the late 19th century and continue to do so today. Haight Ashbury features winsome Victorian terraces or ‘painted ladies’  that sit shoulder-to-shoulder in a competition to turn heads. Pride rainbow flags fly high in the Castro District as it is synonymous with the city’s heart of the LGBT community. Venture downtown to America’s oldest Chinatown, where neon signs, written in Chinese, overhang every street corner. North Beach, otherwise known as Little Italy, is a charming experience not to be missed. Nearby lies Fisherman’s Wharf, one of the most popular and historic waterfront neighborhoods.

To know that there is some other trip superior than this one would me certainly a shocking thing for me. I went for this tour alone and I personally found that it was really a comprehensive tour with some memorable moments. I am 65 and our tour guide was such a caring man who was helping all people who were having difficulty to get in and out of the bus. Due to knee problem I was also helped by Steve (our tour guide) to get into the bus. The bus driver also dropped us close to the destinations to have minimum walk. This is something we do not get everywhere. Bundle of thanks with 5 stars!!!

Yosemite National Park is very beautiful. During this trip, we got to see many beautiful places. Our tour guide was explained the things very well and was very informative. Enjoyed a lot. Hoping for taking more tours from GoldenBusTours. Appreciated .

Bhagyashree

I can consider this trip as a happy blend of fun, a bit of luxuriousness, breathtaking view, information and excitement. From booking to reaching back to the airport all is fun with an amazing team of this bus tour. All destinations were more or less exceptional in their beauty. Visit of Berkley University was something really new for me and got good and new information about this institute from my guide. Yes!! Another thing that needs to be mentioned here is that the Palace of Fine Arts is a must visited and most appreciable place in this trip. Immense efforts and planning can be the acknowledgment of this marvelous trip because of the professionalism of its team. Happy days!!!

What I realized in this trip that; faultless itinerary was the crown thing for me with an ultimate explanation of destinations along with commendable information and services as well. One good thing that is very important to mention here is that optional tours were very reasonable with guides. I picked San Francisco city for me as an optional and found it super cool. Thanks

Marvelous tour. It was such a good decision. All places were beautiful and interesting. I enjoyed visiting Yosemite National park and Golden Gate Bridge. Mr. J our guide and driver were informative people. Their information regarding places is notable. The best part is he knew how to satisfy people. I learnt a lot during this tour. I will highly recommend this tour and want to join some other tour soon.

Totally astonishing trip as I expected it to be and more. I will start with the beauty and amazing fun at places like Yosemite National Park, Fisherman's Wharf and the Palace of Fine Arts. I must say that the Falls of Yosemite were worth clicking and visitors seemed to be so engaged in all such beauties. It was not only the beauty of the views that engaged us but the presentation and explanation from the guide was engaging as well in the entire tour. I am highly recommending it to enjoy its organized services. Many thanks!!!!!

This is a pretty good tour, if you like to visit cities. San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Yosemite National Park. It will be very good option for you. The driver/guide is a very friendly and helpful person. The pick up and drop off at the many locations were on time. The stay too at hotels was comfortable.

I was a perfect road trip. I enjoyed the routes, it was fantastic drive and perfect views. I was feeling so relaxed to look outside from window without any hassle and disturbance. During travelling I was only listening music and enjoying the outside views. All places were worth to visit specially a tour of San Francisco. Food was good. I also did some good shopping. Our guide was a trained and supportive man. Overall it was well managed and well planned tour. Special thanks to the whole team. Love beautiful days.

Limo

Improve Your Travel Experience By Hiring A Limo

BY  Ariana Smith Aug 11, 2020

Whether you are planning a special event or you just want to travel with your friends or family the choice of transportation can have a big impact on your mood, comfort, safety, and style. I wanted to know more about the importance of the choice of a vehicle for several different occasions, and LAX limo rental company, Stay Classy told me that a limo would almost always check all the important boxes on my list. Here’s why a limo can cover all your needs when you want to travel alone or with a group of people. Here, Improve Your Travel Experience By Hiring A Limo: 1. Comfort I put comfort at the top of my list because I wanted to emphasize how important that aspect of the experience is, especially if you travel with four or more people. Comfort is something people would gladly sacrifice to save money but in reality, is it really worth sitting in a bad position with little room for your legs for a few hours. Nobody wants that, and limo offers enough room for all its passengers. You can just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride, or you can opt for a range of activities a limo has to offer like watching TV, listening to music, playing video games, etc. While in Los Angeles, Hollywood Town Car and Limousine provides an array of vehicles, from Limos and Sprinters to Sedans, SUVs, and Coach Buses, ensuring a comfortable and stylish transportation experience for groups of any size. 2. Free Of Stress We all know how stressful driving can be in a city with constant traffic jams, rush hours, and other unplanned events. People would sometimes spend an hour to find a parking spot, which is sometimes a mile away. All of these unwanted side-effects of driving can ruin someone’s day, especially if you want to get somewhere on time. When you hire a limo all of these worries go away. You are in the hands of a professional driver who has already planned the best route and parking spots, your job is to concentrate on the event you are attending and not trouble yourself with the above-mentioned issues. You don’t have to worry about consuming alcohol because you are not going to drive home after. The limo will pick you up at the place of your choice, and safely return you and your friends home. 3. Room For Activities Knowing that a limo offers more room than a regular car, you can easily continue working on your laptop with 0 disturbances. You can even organize a business meeting inside a limo and have a fruitful conversation with your business partners. It’s not the only business that matters, but you can also even have a mini party inside the vehicle, a sort of pre-party before you arrive at the regular one. 4. Style We, humans, love to show off every once in a while and that’s not a bad thing at all. Leaving a good impression is always important because we want people to think better of us. That’s why we think about our clothes, hygiene, hairstyle, accessories, etc. Choosing the right vehicle to accommodate your image is also important. A limo is a great addition to your arsenal as it shows that you mean business. It is a synonym for style and class, and it shows appreciation to people that drive with you. Hire a limo to wait for your friends or family at the airport and see their jaws drop to the ground when they land. 5. Professional Drivers Hiring a limo is an experience that provides both a good and safe vehicle and a professional driver to operate it. As I mentioned above you don’t need to worry about any of the standard elements of driving like finding parking or avoiding traffic. You can relax knowing that you are in good hands and that you are going to arrive earlier or just in time. Well, then you must check out these nine beaches, some of the best in Australia. When you visit these beaches, you see pure white sand, crystal clear waters, and majestic boulders—it feels like a perfect postcard scene. It is high time that beaches were given their right value, with beautiful scenery and a peaceful environment. Also, you will find my ideas on some things to do in Australia when it comes to these beaches! Keep reading to know more. 9 Best Beaches In Australia That Will Make It The Trip Of Your Life! There are several beautiful beaches in Australia, including Whitehaven Beach, Bondi Beach, Noosa Beach, and others. I will discuss with you the significance of the white sands on these beaches and the crystal-clear waters; at times, the turquoise colour is apparent. Water passes through the sand, making it so fine! Along with the water, the impurities wash away, creating clean and soft sand. Let us delve deeper into how to have some of the best trips of your life when you plan on visiting these beaches. 1. Noosa Main Beach The Sunshine Coast of Queensland offers some beautiful beaches, including Noosa Main Beach! It is one of the most popular beaches in the area, especially because the view is postcard perfect. When you visit Noosa, you will know what I am talking about, especially when you witness the swaying palms, turquoise waters, and golden shore. Lifeguards patrol the area daily, and there are ample facilities. Hence, you will not only enjoy yourself on this beach, but you will also be safe. Furthermore, if you are visiting with families, it is a perfect place because the beach is right beside Hasting Street, where you can shop. The restaurant precinct is also there, so you can easily grab some food. Because the beach is north-facing and sheltered, the surf and climate are gentle all year round. 2. Bondi Beach Bondi Beach is always packed with tourists and is one of the most crowded beaches in Sydney and Australia! It is an iconic beach because, across the stretch of silky sand, you will experience spectacular scenery with the warm Aussie sunshine on your face. This is one of the coolest beaches in Sydney!  Standing in front of perfect waves will take your breath away! If you want to enjoy this view, you should visit mid-week because the rush is a little relaxed. Check out Bondi Surf Seafoods, where you must try the fish and chips doused in lemon and wrapped in butcher's paper. Once you swim, get yourself fish and chips, sit on the beach, and eat it! Without this experience, your visit to Bondi Beach would be incomplete. Furthermore, you can also visit Bondi Icebergs to cool your body with a sunset drink. 3. Cottesloe Beach In Western Australia, Cottesloe Beach is perfect if you are into beachside dining! You can drive down from Perth to visit this aesthetically beautiful beach. Apart from visitors and tourists, it is also one of the locals' favorite spots. You can check out art exhibitions, which are sometimes organized on the beach! Apart from surfing and cycling trails, you can attend the annual Sculpture by the Sea. Several eateries provide a perfect environment for you and your fellow travelers when you are hungry. Restaurants such as Jade Court, which has been open for 35 years in Cottesloe, offer an unforgettable Chinese experience. Another significant eatery that people swear by is Indigo Oscar. It is known for its tropical-meets-Latin American dishes and vibe. You should try this place. 4. Cable Beach Located on Western Australia's northern border, Broome has this iconic beach: Cable Beach! Offering picture-perfect sunsets, you must walk across the soft white sand to enjoy the complete feel of it. The calm blue water creates a beautiful visual. You can soak up the golden glow of the place while enjoying a camel ride! There are camel rides available, which you can take to watch the beautiful sunset at the beach. Furthermore, you must read about some of these restaurants in Australia which will help you taste deliciousness! If you want to have a romantic experience with your partner after the beautiful sunset, you can go to Tuga Supper Club. The place has amazing food items, such as the lamb and mac and cheese rack and the dessert platter! The music adds to the relaxed ambiance. 5. Wineglass Bay The place is what we call a wild beauty, as Tasmania has to offer natural beauty in all its raw glory. Wineglass Bay is quite a notable beach in Tasmania, located in Freycinet National Park. The beach is a perfect curve covered with white sand, and the clear blue water borders it. You can take a stroll on the beach with your partner or enjoy yourself on the soft sand. A cozy cafe, Geographe Restaurant Espresso, will cater to your needs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a beautiful view. If you are a seafood lover, I have just the place called Freycinet Marie Farm. You can either stop there and plan on eating right there, or you can buy all the ingredients and take them back home to cook. If you want to enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine, Richardsons Bistro offers everything from lunch to dinner and snacks! 6. Burleigh Heads The Gold Coast is popular for its beaches; that is where we have the Burleigh Heads! It will take over an hour for you to drive to Burleigh, a blending beauty of sunshine and surfing; there is a collaboration of culture and vibe. If you are into the sun and surfing, this is it for you! Furthermore, the place is a mix of chic city life and bohemian vibes. There are several dining and eatery joints with oceanfront views and towering pine trees. The Little Plate is one such restaurant where you can have delicious seafood such as Hiramasa Kingfish and Scallops. You cannot miss starters like Crispy Fried Prawn Dumplings and Peranakan Nonya Chicken. You will also have an amazing shopping experience because many shops surround the beach. 7. Lucky Bay One of the cutest places to hang out, Lucky Bay has kangaroos laid back chilling around the dazzling white sand! If you love wildlife, this place will be heaven for you. Located in the southwest corner of Western Australia, the beach is a combination of white sand in a crescent shape and turquoise water! In Cape Le Grand National Park, the view is to die for! When you travel there, you see kangaroos sunbathing in the white sand and the completely calm of the people around the beach. You can also check out beautiful views of the Recherche Archipelago. One place you must go to for food is The Deck Bar & Cafe! You will experience a blend of good wine, good company, and good food when you go there. If you are going towards Moonta and the Port Hughes, you might as well go here. You will see that the price of the food is standard and quite affordable. Several food options include schnitzels, fish and chips, salt and pepper squid, and burgers! Another beautiful place is the Coffee Barn Gelateria, which is always packed with people! 8. Mindil Beach This place is much more than just a beach because there are several beach festivities that make the overall experience perfect. It is in Darwin's Northern Territory of Australia, where you will get the complete local experience. This is also one of the best places to live in Australia!  There is always something happening at this beach, be it runs and marathons, festivals, or markets. The Beach Sunset Market has several food stalls offering sizzling food. You can have delicious food while watching the beautiful sunsets at the beach. All kinds of food stalls are available, including fruit and juice, seafood, Thai, Chinese, ice cream and sorbet, Sri Lankan, Bangladesh, Mexican, Indian, Turkish, and several others. Even the names of the food stalls are fun, such as Cheeky Cheeky Churros, Magic Cauldron, Petra's Raw Cakes, Sunset Slushie, Fat Kebabs, FireBowls, Frozen Penguins, and several others. 9. Whitehaven Beach If you love marine life, you must visit Whitehaven Beach, as it offers spectacular views. The stunning Whitsunday Islands are quite close to this beach, and you can enjoy the view with the turquoise water swirling together! You can take a variety of cruises when you are on this beach! For accommodation, you can stay on Hamilton Island, which is about 30 minutes by boat. Finishing Off... To sum up, it is quite interesting to see that these beaches in Australia can offer some of the best experiences of life. You can make memories by clicking beautiful pictures, selfies, and portraits to remember these times. You can also visit new places for eating and shopping, thus creating the perfect experience of a lifetime. In my opinion, it is an important way to relax or perform water activities while on the beach with your partners, family, or friends. Budget-Friendly Travel Ideas In Australia

BY  Mashum Mollah Feb 26, 2019

The land down under is a magnificent place to travel ideas. However, it is one that keeps on getting more expensive every year. The fantastic landscape and culture that Australia has to offer are capped by the cost to live and explore.   For many tourists and Australians, it is much cheaper to travel abroad and explore other countries. However, traveling around Australia is incredible and can cost you minimal amounts.   The most important thing is to have a few tips on how to manage your trip to Australia. You can get an amazing experience while sticking to a budget.   Here are a few ways you can explore Australia on a budget-friendly deal  1. Stay In Hostels This tip is more relevant to Australia even though it applies to all parts of the world. Most hotels in Australia are costly, mainly if you are operating on a budget. If you wish to have a less luxurious sleep, you will save a lot of money.  2. Camp You can even try camping if you want to be more adventurous. It will help you save a lot of money. The cheapest way to explore Australia is by getting around and camping at different campsites.   There are several free camping spots around Australia, although there will be areas where you will need to pay for your campsite. Even then, the fees may be as little as $5 per person. You will get access to showers and toilets which aren’t always available on the open road. 3. Prepare Your Meals Even if you decide to eat in a fast-food joint in Australia, it will not give you much change from $10. Besides, you can bring havoc to your body by substituting off main meals with fries and burgers.   Make sure that you are getting food that will support healthy living. You can achieve this objective by preparing your food. It is much cheaper than relying on ready-made food.   Most parks in Australia provide public BBQ facilities free of charge. All you need to do is buy some veggies or meat from the local supermarket and get some grilling.   If grilling every day is not your thing, make good use of the available kitchens in the hostels. Use them to prepare your meal. You will realize a significant difference in your bank account.  4. Purchase Your Booze Bottle-O The bottle-O refers to the liquor shop or bottle shop. This store sells alcohol at a lower price than the ordinary bars. You will get affordable liquor deals in this place. Most budget drinkers like to go for the Goon, which is a cheap but boxed wine.  5. Use Private Vehicle to Commute  In Australia, you have to get around by car if you want to explore the country. You can do it either by purchasing a vehicle temporarily or hiring a car for your travels. However, these two options can be slightly expensive.   You can use comparison sites such as Car Rental Buddy or Car Hire Choice to find and compare vehicles. Alternatively, you can opt for campervan hire from Camper Champ. You will not fail to get a cheap deal when it comes to commuting in Australia. 6. Travel On Greyhound Bus Most backpackers like to use this option as their preferred means of transport. It is among the cheapest modes of transportation in Australia.   You can get a travel pass for approximately $500. It will allow you to hop off and on as many times as you would like. It is an excellent way to view the fantastic scenery of Australia. The good news is that you will not spend so much on these journeys.  7. Participate In Homestays Or Couch Surfing Accommodation in Australia is expensive, even for backpackers. So, if you want to explore Australia cheaply, take advantage of staying at homestays or even Couch-surfing in people’s homes. It will help you get free accommodation in exchange for cultural learning and community interaction. 8. Purchase A Campervan This option is best if you are traveling as a group. It will help you to spit the gas among yourselves. Driving via Australia is exciting, but you can still make your trip more enjoyable.   One way is to purchase a campervan in Cairns and then drive down to Melbourne or the other way round. Even though driving is more expensive than flying, you will stop anywhere you wish. Besides, if you have a big campervan, you can still use it for accommodation.  9. Have Fun By Participating In Active Hobbies Australians (particularly in the north) are known for their outdoor lifestyle. Therefore, you can join them to have a lot of fun outdoors. You will not spend lots of money when you pursue your hobby.  10. Spend Most Of Your Time With Nature  Australia has so much when it comes to natural beauty, and this offers a free experience. You can get into the botanical gardens that are in Melbourne for free. Also, you will not pay anything to visit the beach.   You can also hike via the Royal National Park or Sydney’s Blue Mountains. You will not spend even a single cent when interacting with nature.  11. Hiking  There are several scenic walking trails in Australia that you can explore. Do you want to hike along the Australian coastline and admire the beaches? Or you want to hike up mountains to get a view of the Australian landscape?  You will be able to find an abundance of exciting hiking trails for your adventure. You will get excellent hiking opportunities at no cost in Australia.  12. Checkoutthe Galleries And Museums  Unlike the rest of the world, the galleries and museums of Australia are free to get in. Therefore, if you are tired of the outdoor experience and want a feel of the culture, the museums are your best bet.   The best place to start is the National Gallery of Victoria. You can also try out the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Both locations will give you fantastic opportunities to tour Australia at budget-friendly rates.  13. Cycling In some cities, there are cycling initiatives that you can take advantage of while visiting Australia. In Brisbane, it is possible to cycle for up to half an hour for free using their city hire bike scheme. There are several cycling trails that you can also engage in exploring the city. 14. Swimming At The Beach  Australia boasts thousands of kilometers of coastline where you can go swimming and enjoy yourself at the beach. Whether you decide to stop in a major city like the Gold Coast or head to a quieter town such as Airlie Beach, there will be an option for you. 15. Fishing  If you can get yourself some fishing rods, you can go fishing to a local creek, dam, river or beach. 16. The 9 places you must stop at on your LA to San Francisco road trip

Bixby Bridge along California's Coastline

They may be a few ways you can travel from the ‘City of Angels’ to the ‘City by the Bay’ but there’s none as satisfying or as breathtaking as packing up the car, turning on some tunes, and hittin’ California’s coastline for a road trip you’ll never forget.

We all know California is undeniably spoilt when it comes to beauty. From extraordinary national parks full of interesting rock formations and sparkling lakes (here’s looking at you Yosemite) to bustling and vibrant cities brimming with culture and concrete adventures, California pretty much has it all.

If you want to see it all, embarking on a LA to San Francisco road trip is definitely the way to go. While there are a few different routes you can take to get between the two destinations depending on what you want to see (including hopping on our Real LA to San Francisco tour), there’s no doubt you’ll have the best time regardless of which way you drive. In fact, we’re kind of jealous.

To make sure you’re squeezing as much out of your journey as possible, we’ve taken the different routes into consideration to put together a list of the fascinating spots you can stop at along the way. So, whether you’re set on driving down the coast or thinking of heading inland, kick your LA to San Francisco road trip up a notch at these spectacular settings.

Driving down the coast

1.      Los Angeles

Palm trees in Downtown LA

Exploring the multicultural city of LA is the perfect way to start your Californian road trip. From taking a stroll along the Hollywood walk of fame to acting like a kid at Disneyland, this star-studded city offers the best in glitz, glamour, and adventure. Whether you feel like searching the food markets in downtown LA for the best birria tacos or wandering around a museum or two, make sure you leave enough time in your itinerary to properly do this city the justice it deserves.

EXPLORE THIS CITY ON OUR REAL LA TO SAN FRANCISCO TRIP

2.      Santa Monica

View of Santa Monica Pier

Continue your California coast fun with a quick stop at Santa Monica. Not only is this scenic destination home to a beach you could lay out for hours on, but it’s also an attraction for kids (and adults) of all ages thanks to its amusement park, Pacific Park. Located at the end of the pier, this beloved park has been in operation since 1996 and offers adrenaline lovers the chance to take turns on rides such as the Pacific Wheel, the West Coaster, and the Seaside Swing.

But that’s not all this charming area has to offer. From world-class shopping and mouth-watering restaurants to street performance watching and skating down “The Strand”, Santa Monica is a stop on your LA to San Francisco road trip that simply can’t be missed.

3.      Santa Barbara

The beach at Santa Barbara at sunset.

While this list is packed with California’s best coastal towns, Santa Barbara might just top ‘em all. From its golden beaches lined with palm trees to its secluded forest trails perfect for finding peace in the great outdoors, this charming destination is a perfect example of some of Mother Nature’s most impressive work. But that’s not all.

Featuring Mediterranean-style architecture (think thick plaster walls and clay-tiled roofs) that’ll have you feeling like you’re walking through the streets of your favorite European cities, Santa Barbara is the perfect mix of history and culture.

4.      Hearst Castle

Intricately detailed exterior of Hearst Castle.

If you’re getting a little sick of admiring beach landscape after beach landscape, then stopping at Hearst Castle in California’s Big Sur region is for you. Set upon sprawling and perfectly manicured grounds, this epic castle features Moorish-style architecture and has become a celebration of both art and culture since its construction over a century ago.

While it used to be a private residence in the early 1900s, this magnificent hilltop structure is now a state park so you can stretch your legs and enjoy its enchanting exhibitions and wander around its grand halls and intricately decorated rooms.

5.      Elephant Seal Vista Point

Elephant seals laying on the beach at Elephant Seal Vista Point.

Don’t get us wrong, this list is full of gorgeous coastal areas you could easily spend more than a couple of hours in but if there’s one that’s a little different then it’s San Simeon’s Elephant Seal Vista Point. Why? Because of the elephant seals you’ll see there.

Seeing these incredible animals up close and in their element as they sun themselves on the surrounding beach might just be the cherry on top of your once-in-a-lifetime road trip and we’re not even exaggerating.

The best time to see these marine mammals are in late January, April, October so we’re not saying you should plan your whole adventure around the chance to see these elephant seals but we’re also not not saying that if you know what we mean.

6.      Monterey

Charming waterfront houses in Monterey

California is the home of trendy coastal towns and Monterey is no exception. From the staggeringly beautiful panorama of Big Sur to the charming and storybook city center, this county needs to be seen to be believed. While there’s a whole heap of things to do including a visit to the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium and a wander along the historic Cannery Row, it’s simply being in this region and soaking up nature’s beauty that makes this stop a special one.

7.      Santa Cruz

Aerial view of the Santa Cruz pier and surrounding beach

While this might be the third ‘Santa’ on this last, it’s definitely not the last (or least beautiful) and a couple of hours wandering its charming downtown district is enough to see why. Featuring a laidback, coastal vibe that’ll have you wanting to rent a surfboard and hit the waves, this town’s natural landscapes really set it apart from its impressive redwood forests to the miles and miles of golden sandy beach at its doorstep.

Home to the four ‘S’s (sun, sand, surf, and sea lions), you’ll never get bored in a place like Santa Cruz. Talk about California dreamin’.

8.      Half Moon Bay

Coastal area of Half Moon Bay

At this point on your journey down the Pacific Coast Highway, you might be itching to set your sights on your final destination but before you arrive, there’s another coastal town that deserves a bit of your time. Half Moon Bay not only has one of the most magical and enchanting names ever, but its proximity to the calming sounds of the Pacific Ocean makes it one of the more peaceful spots on this list.

Whether you want to spend your time eating some fresh and exquisite local seafood, hiking along seaside trails, laying out on the beach, or exploring ancient redwood forests, Half Moon Bay definitely won’t disappoint.

9.      San Francisco

A group of travelers standing in front of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Loved for being a vibrant and multicultural city full of amazing sights and historical attractions, San Francisco is the perfect last destination on your Californian road trip. Whether you feel like taking a photo of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge for the ‘gram, walking through the eerie Alcatraz Prison, or looking out over the zigzagging Lombard Street, this beautiful and fascinating city is a traveler’s dream.

The national parks

Joshua Tree National Park

Traveler standing in front of a desert cactus in Joshua Tree National Park.

While California’s dramatic and rugged coastline is breathtaking, the beauty doesn’t stop when you head away from it. Joshua Tree National Park is truly spectacular. From its abundance of spiky plants and extraordinary cacti to its uniquely shaped rock formations and desert animals, this park has a little something for everyone to be impressed by.

Nestled between Colorado and the Mojave Desert, this beloved park is filled with walking trails for all fitness levels and more scenic spots than you could possibly take a selfie at. Whether you’re looking forward to enjoying the peace and quiet of nature or trying to spot a tortoise or two, Joshua Tree National Park is a small but necessary detour on your LA to San Francisco road trip.

EXPLORE THIS NATIONAL PARK ON OUR WILD WESTERN USA TRIP

Mojave National Preserve

If you’ve seen enough coastal towns to last you a lifetime and prefer to wander through forests or hike up mountains instead then making your way to the Mojave National Preserve should be high on your LA to San Francisco road trip priority list. While it’s technically out of the way (and will add travel time onto your journey), this mesmerizing spot simply can’t be missed thanks to its outdoor-playground status.

Somewhat underrated when it comes to the other popular Californian national parks, Mojave National Preserve features extinct volcanoes, rugged mountain ranges, abandoned ghost towns, and other breathtaking landscapes that have been naturally shaped over centuries. Perfect for hiking, four-wheel driving, animal-spotting, and bird-watching, this park is a nature lover’s paradise.

Death Valley National Park

A group of travelers walking towards a rocky cliff face in Death Valley National Park.

If you’re taking an alternative route from Los Angeles to San Francisco, then Death Valley National Park has to be on the list of must-stop-at-places. Extreme in every way from the eye-watering heat to its captivating geological features, exploring this park isn’t for the faint of heart. Once home to the Timbisha Shoshone tribe, this park presents a lesson in both history and nature that you’ll never come close to learning in a classroom.

While it’s recognized as one of the hottest places on earth, there are still plenty of plants and animals from desert succulents to bighorn sheep that are waiting to be discovered. So, lace up your hiking boots, slap on some sunscreen, and prepare yourself for an experience like no other.

Kings Canyon National Park

While Kings Canyon National Park may have similar terrain to that of its neighbor Yosemite, it’s the fact that it’s home to the United States’ deepest canyon that really sets this beloved destination apart. With a depth of more than a mile and a half, this impressive canyon promises one of the most unforgettable views in all of California. It’s a big call we know, but an accurate one.

However, this park isn’t just known for its depth, but its height as well. Home to skyscraping sequoia trees that’ll have you looking up all afternoon, Kings Canyon is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and promises a great outdoor adventure fir for everyone with activities including horseback riding and hiking trails suitable for all levels.

Yosemite National Park

A peaceful river with rocky mountains in the background at Yosemite National Park.

If you’re looking to cross something off your travel bucket list during your road trip, then head on over to Yosemite National Park. While its pronunciation might be hard to figure out (yow-seh-muh-tee), the park itself is easy to explore with dramatic mountain ranges, sparkling lakes, giant sequoia tree forests, and peaceful alpine valleys simply waiting for you to stumble upon.

We know this beloved national park is off the beaten track when it comes to typical LA to San Francisco road trip routes, but when there’s a spot this special, sometimes you have to go the extra mile. Especially when there are hidden trails and challenging hikes to discover for views that’ll take your breath away.

Regardless of which route you take or what places you stop at, your adventure from Los Angeles to San Francisco is guaranteed to be a memorable one.

How to Travel From Los Angeles to San Francisco by Train, Bus, Car, and Plane

tours la to san francisco

Pgiam / Getty Images

Anyone visiting California can't miss out on its two biggest metropolitan areas, Los Angeles and San Francisco . Each has its own claim to fame and a very different atmosphere, even though they're only separated by less than 400 miles. Los Angeles is a sprawling metropolis that stretches on without bounds while San Francisco is confined on three sides by water, but both offer endless opportunities for visitors.

Some of California's most remarkable sites are between Los Angeles and San Francisco, so if you have a vehicle and the time, driving the scenic route is the best way to travel between them. You can also drive a faster and less visually spectacular route, but if you're in a hurry then a flight will be faster and likely less expensive. Buses are the most affordable method for travelers on a budget, but they take an entire day or night. The train is—surprisingly—the slowest method and only a good option for those who are passionate about train travel.

What Is the Cheapest Way to Get From Los Angeles to San Francisco?

Various bus companies make the route from Los Angeles to San Francisco, such as Greyhound, Flixbus, and Megabus. The fastest routes complete the journey in roughly eight hours, but some trips make more stops and can take up to 12 hours. Regardless of what company you choose or when you buy your tickets, expect to pay between $20 and $45 for a one-way trip. While this is definitely the cheapest method, it's often possible to find flights for only an additional $15–$20, saving you several hours of travel time.

Each company has its own pick-up location, but all of them collect passengers around Downtown Los Angeles (Flixbus has an additional pick-up point at UCLA in Westwood). In San Francisco, Megabus and Flixbus bring passengers to the San Francisco Caltrain Station in the China Basin neighborhood while Greyhound passengers are dropped off just a few blocks north at the Salesforce Transit Center. Both locations are well-connected to the rest of the city via BART, Muni, or buses .

Tip: To save money, choose a late-night departure and sleep on the bus. You'll save a night of pricey accommodations and not miss out on a day of your trip sitting on the bus.

What Is the Fastest Way to Get From Los Angeles to San Francisco?

For travelers who don't have the time to visit all of the parts of California between Los Angeles and San Francisco, you can skip over it and travel from one city to the other in under an hour and a half. Of course, once you factor in all of the time it takes to get to and from the airport, check-in for your flight, pass through security, and wait at your gate, you're actually in transit quite a bit longer. Even with the extra hassles that come with flying, taking a plane is still the fastest way to get to San Francisco.

Thankfully, it can also be one of the most affordable ways. Several airlines fly this popular route, and there are several daily options from Alaska, American, Southwest, United, and Delta. One-way flights start at $60, although they can rise drastically if you're making your purchase at the last minute.

There are three major airports around San Francisco. The majority of flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) fly into San Francisco International Airport (SFO), although some airlines may fly to Oakland (OAK) or San Jose (SJC). From Oakland, you can get to San Francisco via public transit in as little as 30 minutes. San Jose is farther and would take at least an hour and a half by public transit or about an hour by car.

How Long Does It Take to Drive?

The fastest route from Los Angeles to San Francisco is driving north on I-5, which cuts through the agricultural Central Valley. The journey takes about six hours and is relatively free of traffic—apart from the very beginning and the very end of the trip around the big cities. You won't see much along the way and the drive is unbelievably boring, but it's the second-fastest way to get to San Francisco after flying.

How Long Is the Train Ride?

While there has been talk for years about building a high-speed train connecting Los Angeles and San Francisco, that prospect is still a distant reality. The fastest trains from Amtrak make the journey in about 10 hours, but require a number of transfers along the way and usually end with a bus. The most direct journey only requires one transfer, but it will take you about 12 hours from the time you board the train in Los Angeles to stepping off in San Francisco.

Use the Amtrak website to purchase a ticket from Los Angeles to either San Jose or Oakland. There is one train that leaves Union Station in Los Angeles every morning to travel north along this route, and it will take you 10 hours to get to San Jose or 11 hours to Oakland. San Jose is farther from San Francisco, but you can change from the Amtrak train to a local Caltrain within the same station, which will get you to San Francisco in roughly 90 minutes. Oakland is much closer to San Francisco, but the Oakland Amtrak Station is a 10-minute walk from the local BART train, which can be tricky if you're carrying luggage.

The cheapest Amtrak tickets start at $50 but sell out quickly. You'll also need to purchase a separate ticket for the second leg of the trip on the local commuter train, which will be an additional $5–$10. It's a long ride and will use up an entire day of your vacation, but it's a scenic ride and well worth it for those who are passionate about train travel.

When Is the Best Time to Travel to San Francisco?

You'll want to avoid leaving Los Angeles on a weekday afternoon as rush hour commuters pour out of the city and overflow the highways. In winter, the section of I-5 known as "the Grapevine"—which is a major artery out of Los Angeles County—is occasionally shut down due to icy roads, forcing all drivers to head north on Highway 101 and creating catastrophic traffic jams. Check road conditions before heading out and use GPS to find the least congested routes.

San Francisco weather is relatively mild all year long, but if you're seeking the best weather you should visit in September or October while the city is experiencing its signature "Indian Summer." The beginning of fall is when San Francisco gets the most sunshine, since the summer months are often plagued with heavy fog. Not only does the summer bring less-than-ideal weather but it's also the high season when the city is mostly filled with tourists. Winter is the low season and a great time to visit if you want hotel deals. The weather may be wet and chilly, but it's nowhere near as cold as the Northeastern United States.

What's the Most Scenic Route to San Francisco?

The I-5 highway may be the fastest route from Los Angeles, but if you have access to a vehicle then taking the scenic route is one of the most worthwhile delays you'll experience in your life. Depending on how much time you have, you have two options—but if you aren't in a rush, choose the longer one.

The "quick" option is to take Highway 101 up the coast, with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean as you pass through charming towns like Malibu , Santa Barbara , and San Luis Obispo . From there, the highway cuts inland and the last three hours are less impressive. This route is only 40 additional miles from the I-5 route and adds less than an hour to the total trip time, a small price to pay for the exponentially more interesting scenery.

The "long" option is only 20 miles longer than the "quick" option but adds almost an hour and a half to the drive because of curvy roads and one-lane highways, for a total travel time of about eight hours without stopping. In exchange, you'll be riding one of the most breathtaking drives you'll surely ever see in your life. From Los Angeles, you'll drive up Highway 101 along the coast just as with the previous option. However, once you get to San Luis Obispo you'll change to Highway 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway. The rest of the drive is a spectacular route passing through Big Sur State Park where the forested cliffs dramatically drop into the Pacific Ocean. There are plenty of pull-offs along the highway to park, take pictures, and absorb the beauty around you.

Can I Use Public Transportation to Travel From the Airport?

Most flights from Los Angeles arrive at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), which is a few miles south of the city but conveniently connected by the local BART train . BART has several stops throughout the city and it takes about 30 minutes to get from the airport to downtown San Francisco. Oakland Airport (OAK) is also connected to the city via BART and about 30 minutes from downtown San Francisco as well. If you arrive at San Jose Airport, you'll need to take a bus or cab to the San Jose Diridon train station. From there, you can take Caltrain to downtown San Francisco and the journey takes about 90 minutes.

Ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft are also available from SFO with fares starting at $30 from the airport to downtown.

What Is There to Do in San Francisco?

San Francisco is one of the most iconic cities not just in California but in the entire United States, famous for its melting pot of cultures, bohemian vibe, colorful houses, and auburn bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is famous around the world and when it's a clear day, one of the best viewpoints is from Crissy Field. If you have a vehicle, you can park at the San Francisco side of the bridge and walk across it for free. Union Square, off of Market Street, is the commercial center of the city and is one of the best places for shopping. Haight-Ashbury was the epicenter of the hippy movement in the 1970s and although it's become a popular area for tourists, it still retains its free-spirit vibe. Nearby is Golden Gate Park , an urban escape that's even larger than Central Park in New York City and contains botanical gardens, museums, and green space to lay out and enjoy the California sun.

San Francisco is located approximately 382 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Depending on traffic, it takes around six hours to drive from San Francisco to L.A.

One popular stop between San Francisco and Los Angeles is San Luis Obispo, which has a number of quaint inns and hotels to break up the long drive.

The headbanger’s journey begins on Aug. 31 in Los Angeles and concludes on Oct. 7 in San Francisco. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday. You can see the full list of dates below.

The Full Metal Assault Tour marks a full-circle moment for both acts, as Accept supported Judas Priest more than 40 years ago on the latter’s World Wide Blitz Tour. “There is no doubt that we warriors of metal will give every ounce of our energy and our power in order to deliver up our very finest performance,” KK’s Priest namesake guitarist K.K. Downing said in a statement. “This is a spectacle not to be missed, and this is possibly the one and only time in history for you to witness this iconic duel. Who will be the victor? You will be the judge. Let the music begin … The arena awaits!”

Accept guitarist Wolf Hoffmann added: “This tour with KK’s Priest is a dream come true for Accept and for me personally. Accept supported Judas Priest back in the early ’80s — it was our first ‘real’ international tour and Priest had been a huge influence on us. I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with K.K. on this very special tour. It’s going to be epic! Don’t miss it!”

KK’s Priest released their sophomore album, The Sinner Rides Again , last September. Accept, meanwhile, released their 17th album, Humanoid , last month.

Gen AI innovation race is leading to security gaps, according to IBM and AWS

Discover how companies are responsibly integrating AI in production. This invite-only event in SF will explore the intersection of technology and business. Find out how you can attend here .

What will it take to secure generative AI?

According to a new study released today by IBM and Amazon Web Services (AWS ) there is no simple ‘silver bullet’ solution to secure gen AI, especially now. The report is based on a survey conducted by the IBM Institute for Business Value that surveyed leading executives at U.S. organizations. While gen AI is a top initiative for many, the survey found a high level of enthusiasm for security. 82% of C-suite leaders stated that secure and trustworthy AI is essential for business success.

That said, there is a dichotomy in the results and a difference with what’s actually happening in the real world. The report found that organizations are securing only 24% of their current generative AI projects. IBM isn’t the only firm with a report that raises concerns about security. PwC recently reported that 77% of CEOs are concerned about AI cybersecurity risks.

Not coincidentally, IBM is working on different approaches with AWS to help improve that situation in the future. Today, IBM is also announcing the IBM X-Force Red Testing Service for AI to further advance generative AI security.

The AI Impact Tour – San Francisco

Join us as we navigate the complexities of responsibly integrating AI in business at the next stop of VB’s AI Impact Tour in San Francisco. Don’t miss out on the chance to gain insights from industry experts, network with like-minded innovators, and explore the future of GenAI with customer experiences and optimize business processes.

“In all the client conversations I’ve been having  I see that leaders are being pulled into different directions,” Dimple Ahluwalia, Global Senior Partner for Cybersecurity Services at IBM Consulting told VentureBeat. “They feel the pressure certainly from both their internal and external stakeholders to innovate with use of gen AI, but that means for some of them that security becomes an afterthought.”

Innovation or security? Gen AI implementations tend to only pick one

While it might seem that having security is common sense for any type of technology deployment, the reality is that’s not always the case.

The report found that for 69% of organizations, innovation takes precedence over security. Ahluwalia noted that organizations have not fully ingrained security across all lines of business. The report also makes it clear that business leaders understand the importance of security and address that issue to help make production deployments of gen AI more successful.

“People are so excited that they’re rushing to see if they can get productivity gains, if they can look at how to be more competitive,” she said.

Ahluwalia said that the same thing happened in the early years of cloud when every conversation had to involve a discussion of moving workloads to the cloud, often without proper security oversight.

“That’s what is happening now with gen AI, everybody feels compelled and are rushing to get to it,” Ahluwalia said. “The plans haven’t been thought through and as a result, I think security kind of suffers as well.”

Guardrails and policy are the keys to gen AI security

So how can and should organizations improve?

The report recommends that in order to build trust in gen AI, organizations must start with governance. That includes establishing policies, processes and controls aligned with business objectives. 81% said generative AI requires new security governance models.

Once governance is set, strategies can address securing the full AI pipeline using available tools and controls. Collaboration across security, technology and business teams is needed. There is also benefit potentially in leveraging technology partners’ expertise for strategy, training, cost justification and navigating compliance.

How IBM X-Force Red Testing Service for AI fits in

Beyond guardrails and governance there is also a need to validate and test.

IBM X-Force Red’s new Testing Service for AI is IBM’s first testing service tailored specifically for AI. The new service is bringing together a cross-discipline team of experts across penetration testing, AI systems, and data science. The service will also make use of expertise from IBM Research, which developed the Adversarial Robustness Toolbox (ART).

The concept of a ‘red team’ in security generally means there is a group that is taking an adversarial approach in proactively attacking resources in order to help learn where gaps exist.

Chris Thompson, Global Head of X-Force Red at IBM explained to VentureBeat that the industry adopted the term “AI red teaming” for better or worse recently, primarily with a focus on the safety and security testing of models themselves. In his view, to date there hasn’t been a traditional red team focus on stealth and evasion. Rather the focus has been more on getting models to do something they shouldn’t, such as produce harmful content or gain access to sensitive RAG datasets.

“Attacks against gen AI apps themselves are very similar to traditional application security attacks but with a new twist and expanded attack surface,” Thompson said.

At this point in 2024, he noted that IBM is seeing more of a convergence with what is considered to be true red teaming. The approach IBM is taking is to look at the wider attack paths into gen AI. The four areas of AI red teaming IBM has developed services around include: AI platforms, the pipeline used to tune and train the models (MLSecOps), the production environment running the gen AI applications, and the gen AI applications themselves.

“Aligned with traditional red teaming, we’re also focused on missed detection opportunities and reducing the time it takes to detect any potential advanced threat actors successfully targeting these new AI solutions,” Thompson said.
